This was a great deal for ayce sushi. The key word- was. My husband and I went a few months ago for sushi and we were informed they no longer had that deal. The prices were increased as well for the normal sushi. I highly doubt we will ever go back.

I have been to Domo 77 in Wheaton numerous times and can't imagine some of these reviews! I went a few weeks ago with my boyfriend (for probably the 20th+ visit) and had as always, a great time.

I used a http://restaurant.com certificate and was not given a separate menu. (Maybe they had done this in the past?? We were given the regular menu during our visit.) Our waitress was extremely friendly and the food was excellent. The filet and garlic shrimp has always been my favorite. I have yet to try the sushi therefore cannot comment on the quality. However, the hibachi has never let me down!

I would give Domo 5 stars based on the quality of hibachi but have to take one star away based on decor. Overall, I can say I have never been dissatisfied in any of my visits to Domo.

I loved the sushi there! I had never eaten sushi before, since I used to be a vegetarian, and being from western India, we didn't grow up eating seafood. After coming to Chicago six years ago, I've been trying out new cuisines, and lo behold, sushi has become one of my favorites! I don't know if it was this restaurant's sushi, or sushi on the whole is a tasty meal. I was very happy with my experience. The spicy sake was the best and the ocean signature sushi too.

I will definitely go back! I've heard they're known more for hibachi.

The sushi are not very good (the rice is hard and the sashimi is not. Very Fresh For the. High price they charge ($30. a order)
I probably can get the same quality sushi for half of the price at most of Chinese sushi buffet . And they didn't serve hot green tea at sushi bar like Benihana.
Not a good dining value!

Well, I can safely say that I know why they do so many Groupons. It's just OK.

We didn't think it was horrible or anything and nothing was bad, but nothing was that special either. Things that we truly love about a hibachi dinner were just acceptable. Anyone willing to pay full price without a coupon of some kind at this place is crazy! I mean, why pay full price ever when they're practically begging you to come there with a coupon anyway?

Would I go back? Sure. If you gave me a gift certificate. Would I pay full price? Never.

Let's speak to the few things I love about hibachi that this place just didn't nail:

Ginger dressing good, but didn't have that zing
Veggies: not enough of them and didn't have a good variety
Meat: overcooked
Dessert: didn't come with any!
Show: our guy didn't seem to care that entertainment was his job. I nearly thought he'd forget about the onion stack but did it at the last minute and then THREW it away! No one even got to eat it!
Edamame: not fresh

The service was the best part, followed closely by the beer (that they couldn't screw up). Our waiter was exceptional.

I think we'll stick to our favorite Tairyo for all future hibachi dinners.

If you're looking for the typical hibachi experience, this is your place. They will not blow your mind with exceptionalism, but the cooks will entertain and give you the hibachiness you crave. One caveat: it feels like the '80s inside.

I wish I could give this place more stars! But after my lat visit, this is all I can give.
On a good note, the food was AMAZING!!!! As it always has been! My table had everything from steak to chicken to seafood, all was thoroughly enjoyed. My main gripe, was with the service.
I started by utilizing their website to make an online reservation for my party of 12, for my birthday. Upon making the reservation online, it stated that I would receive a text confirming my reservation. I waited all the way up to the day of my reservation and never received the text. I ended up calling to confirm, where they assured me they had the reservation. Needless to say, I showed up for dinner and my table was not ready. We ended up having to wait several minutes while they set it up.
After we were seated , it took them FOREVER to even take our drink order, and even longer to get them served to us. While most of my party was drinking beer, I opted for cocktails ( it was in fact , my birthday!). The drinks were awful. I first ordered a vodka soda. The soda water was flat.. So I ordered a Cosmo. It was literally a vodka cranberry in a martini glass. Yuck. My friend felt bad, so he ordered me an extra dirty martini. It tasted like poop. And I think the olives were old, they didn't taste right either. After that, I ordered a miller lite, I was done trying. Not to mention that our drinks would sit dry and in need of a refill for many minutes before we would have to flag down a server to help us.
After dinner was done, my mom and I snuck outside for a quick smoke (about 8:30 pm). Trying to get back in, we realized they had locked the doors and we hand to bang on the door several times before the hostess even noticed we were stuck outside. Upon entering they told us they were closing up... (What?????) they were pretty much pushing us out the door.
Needless to say, I think next year for my bday, I will opt to take my party of 12 elsewhere. I wish the service matched the stellar food.

We just had the sushi buffet. Of all the sushi buffet places in the western burbs, this is probably the best. It's about $6 more than the others, but it's still the best quality. and selection That's just the price of a combination sushi platter at a regular sushi restaurant. You aren't going to get the best and thickest cuts of fish, but the menu is still ample and the fish quality is almost as good as any no name sushi place. Their appetizers and maki are just as good or better than any regular sushi place.

Service INCREDIBLY slow for lunch. No surprise the place was dead. They were in no hurry to make a few rolls for a lunch special. They must think people on a lunch hour have all the time in the world.

Food was just ok but for 9 dollars I'd rather have a burger than a few pieces of maki(3) and a roll...

I've had a long up-and-down relationship with Domo. The abolition of AYCE sushi is the final nail in their coffin, though, and it's time to set the record straight, now that I know for sure that I'll never be in there again.

First, the owner/manager/maître d has always been horrible. From taking so long to seat us that we missed the hibachi lunch special to stalking my wife on Yelp after she left a poor review, the woman is straight-up crazy.

Second, they are chintzy as hell. I never had the misfortune of trying to use a groupon, but I did learn the hard way that AYCE sushi was considered a "special" - and thus didn't "qualify" for use with any other "specials." Imagine my embarrassment when my in-laws took me there on my birthday only to end up in a semantic altercation with the waitress AND end up paying much more than they anticipated!

Third, the otherwise friendly sushi chef trash-talked my city. Apparently he moved to Las Vegas, got bored after three months and left. Good riddance.

Fourth, after having much, much better sushi here in Vegas - at places that are actually Japanese-owned, no less - I've realized that Domo was never really all that great to begin with, and it just got worse in its death throes.

I missed this place immensely when we first moved to Vegas. Now that we're in the sushi capital of the country, I don't feel so bad.

I will miss the Yellow Submarine though.

It's hard to give this place 3 stars. Mainly because this is my all time favorite hibachi style food. I LOVE the food here. No hibachi style place I've been to does as many dishes as well. So why 3 stars?

Parking lot: An utter disaster. For an upscale restaurant (as this is supposed to be) the parking lot is in worse shape than many abandoned lots in Detroit. I'm talking pot holes, giant cracks, etc. So why does this matter? If you bill yourself as upscale, you prove it from arrival to the completion of the meal. This restaurant does well on the actual food cooking part - everything else falls short.

Interior: Slightly better than the parking lot. Good thing the lights are low. There is potential here for a very nice ambiance - however, like the parking lot, this is well overdue for some updating and maintenance. If you are upscale, you prove it from arrival to completion of the meal. The menus... speak for themselves (you'll see - not in a good way - more in a "can you believe this" way).

Service: Using a coupon is almost guaranteed to start an argument. Check your bill - then check it again. It's hard to describe the overall service as anything other than "difficult." Seating and reservations can be a struggle. The actual waitstaff is fine - every waiter or waitress I've had does their best and is kind - though during busy times the restaurant seems understaffed with waitstaff. It seems to be a problem with the hostess/accountant.

Sushi: Good. it will satisfy but not likely leave you texting your friends or posting photos.

Okay so, I've been pretty critical, but this place has GREAT food. The best fried rice I've ever eaten. The best ginger salad dressing I've ever had. They still do egg yolk shrimp that is fantastic. As far as meal delivery - they NAIL it.

So, to sum up. If you are going here for the food - you will be very pleasantly surprised. I have yet to find better tasting food of this style.

As an operation that delivers food - DOMO excels

As an "upscale dining" establishment - everything else falls short. It's easy to taste the passion for this style of food in the meal - it's very difficult to SEE it - anywhere.

My husband and I came out here to celebrate our Friend's birthday and we have never heard of this place or been here before. I am actually not a fan of sushi or any sea food at all (my husband is) so I was hoping for the best. I was pleasantly surprised to find chicken with Teri yaki sauce which I ordered. It was delicious, I do love Asian kitchen though!
My husband told me that his meal (steak and sea scallops) were just as tasty. The servants were amazing, very attentive and nice.
The interior of the steak house overall was very nice as well, very cozy and comfortable environment. The next big thing is the chef preparing the food in front of you, very entertaining! The prices were reasonable too, especially that so many sides were included and the chef giving you a 'show'.
The kids menu is overpriced however, but at the same time it is a steak house. I do not know what the Groupon deal is about, also, I have not really been to any other Japanese steakhouse hibachi style restaurants so I do not have any comparison

I've been going her for years because it's a fun outing for a group and the food is tasty. Went here with co-workers for my birthday lunch. As soon as we walked in, I wasn't sure if it was open. There were paint rollers, trays, drop cloths, and a ladder right in the entryway and the smell of the paint fumes was noxious. We were ushered to a side room near the hostess stand. The room wasn't heated, but we were pretty sure that's because it would heat up once the chef appeared to cook. There was no music and the room seemed more appropriate for a wake than lunch. It was a strange vibe. Anyway, the waiter took our drink order and answered some questions about appetizers. We ordered our apps and drinks. As 15 minutes ticked by, still no drinks. Two couples came in (one girl was wearing pajama pants and sported a wet ponytail) and sat at the other table across from ours. Finally the drinks arrived. And our appetizers. Not to be picky and cheap, but there were 6 of us and we were assured the apps (gyoza and shumai) included 6 pieces each. Nope - there were five of the shumai and 5 of the gyoza. We asked the waiter about it and he said, "Oops. I was wrong. Sorry about that." The chef whispered to him and told him to make it right. So 10 minutes later we got a little plate with one gyoza and one shumai dumpling.

After our soup, the cooking began ... the chef immediately started with the proteins. Now, I've been here a lot for dinner and they always started with veggies, then the one piece of shrimp "appetizer," then the entree meat followed by fried rice. During those meals, all of the cooking was done with flair and showmanship. But this was lunch ... no showmanship. And no vegetables. That surprised me. Veggies are cheap and filling. Not a single item that grows in the ground hit that table that day. AND the chef cooked the food for our table ... and the table next to us ... all on our grill! I guess when there is no showmanship it doesn't matter? Still - I had a modest pile of steak, a few mushrooms (wait, I guess that grows, but it's not really a vegetable), and three shrimp for $17. At the end of the meal they brought me a dusty flower arrangement with a candle in it. I blew out the candle and they whisked away the arrangement, but then they gave me a big plate with "happy birthday" written in Hershey's syrup on it and a small cream puff. My co-worker said she had to beg for them to do something like that for my birthday because she was told they don't usually do anything for birthdays at lunch. And just to note, no coupons are allowed at lunch, not that we had any.

I'm disappointed in Domo 77. I expected a goofy, fun outing with tasty food. Instead we left feeling forlorn and a little hungry. How expensive could some zucchini, carrots and onion cost that they had to be excluded from lunch. It just doesn't make any sense to me. And after reading about the roaches and dirty grills in the other reviews, I don't think I'll be back.

My family went to Domo on Friday. We had 3 kids who were hungry, but the owner was seating all the adults before she would seat us. When we got to the table, we sat down and ordered, the chef came out and began cooking. Once that happened, we saw at least 2 roaches come from the bottom of the table top to the top. When we notified the owner that she had bugs in her restaurant, she rushed us to another table and acted like nothing happened. She came back with a $25 coupon for the inconvenience of relocation. We decided we couldn't eat the meal, so they came with the full check and we submitted a groupon, coupon she gave us and another we had for a birthday and the owner told us we could only use one. I reminded of the inconvenience of moving tables and she honored all of them this one time.

Either way, will not go back to the restaurant again. Also good to know you can only use 1 coupon per table.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The food was okay but the customer service ruined the whole experience-- after spending $110 on lunch for 7 people, we were told we couldnt use one groupon because 2 out of the 7 people had lunch specials. We asked to have those two removed from the main check, which still would've resulted in a total bill of $85, still more than double the value of the groupon. But the owner of this independent restaurant stated she couldn't do that as we were all together in one party. Not only was that a lie, it was obnoxious and all 7 of us have decided to never go to this restaurant again. Too bad since we work less than a mile away. I called groupon to have them refund my voucher which they had no problem doing (evidently I wasn't the first to complain) but its a shame the owner of this restaurant has no idea what customer service entails.

First of all, i am shocked reading about the two separate menu pricing here for groupon and regular diners. This is just terrible deceiving practice jacking up the price for groupon users. I don't know if I should be upset or write Domo77 and congratulate the owner he/she is a genius. Why are they running a restaurant? They should become a politician and run for office. So shady it's hilarious.

My dinner experience was good, I thought the pricing for $25 for each hibachi dinner was acceptable, considering it comes with the chef cooking in front of you, soup, salad, chicken fried rice, and veggies plus the main dish. Four of us ate here tonight, two ordered the filet hibachi, one garlic shrimp, and one salmon/portabella mushroom combo. i tasted the garlic shrimp - it's delicious. i had the filet and it was cooked perfectly with good seasoning. the salad was great , love the ginger dressing.

the chef was very nice and entertaining. the service was good, the waitress was very patient and friendly.

would I return - yes because i enjoyed the food, service, and i was entertained. but would i recommend this place to others? probably not, the groupon fiasco here i am reading about is very disappointing, while I enjoyed eating here tonight, i felt like it could easily turn into a shady/dishonest dining experience if the owner decides to cut cost or 'bend' the rules. i deducted one star from my review for the deceptive business practice.

Definitely not going here again.

We had a table of 12 BUT we had reservations, so they knew that we were coming. When we arrived we were sat at a table, the grill was dirty. I think that was what shocked me the most, I have NEVER been sat at a table were the grill literally had pieces of food burned on it from the table before us. We had to move when more people showed up than the table would fit, ok no problem.

The SECOND grill was also dirty!! I was shocked, at this point is was half an hour into us waiting and we still hadn't been asked for our drink orders even. The server didn't ask for our food orders until we had been sitting there an HOUR! Oh yes, and even though we were a party of 12, they couldn't split the check and we could only use ONE groupon for one person, out of 12 people.

After an hour our food orders were taken, another 15-20 minutes and chef came. The food was ok, not spectacular for the prices, the chef barely did any tricks and didn't talk much. We had to keep requesting that our drinks be refilled and when some of out party ordered sushi it all came on one plate and the server did not explain it was the several orders and not just one.

Conclusion: Totally not impressed and not going back

I went to Domo 77 for the first time in years (I used to live in Lisle, virtually next door) on 8/25/12. I had experienced my first sushi at Domo 77 back in 1998 and had been a very happy customer (even had the frequent customer card that got filled over and over). So, it's been a few years, probably about 7 or so, since I had eaten there and thought it would be a good place for my birthday gathering.

We had 8pm reservations for 10; eight of us were on time but two got stuck in traffic and were about 15 min late, heck it happens. They seated us (without the 2 that were running late), then waited over 30 minutes to take our drink orders. The server refused to make separate checks and made us double up so she only had to deal with five checks. Ridiculous! After finally getting our drinks, it took her another 15 minutes to come back and take our orders. So, it was almost 9pm before they even started to make our dinner.

Food was really good (which is why this gets 2 stars instead of 1) and the habichi chef was good, but he did say he was a newbie, so we didn't get a lot of the fancier flying food stuff, but that was okay. All chefs have to start somewhere and boy, the food was really, really good.

Service sucked and unfortunately, because we were a table of 10 (with only 5 checks though), they tacked on the 18% gratuity. The server DID NOT deserve that gratuity. A few in my party sought out the manager (the server first said SHE was the manager - an obvious lie) and asked that the entire gratiuity be given to the chef, NOT the server. That's the biggest problem with having a large group - the gratuity is there regardless of the service (and probably why we got poor service in the first place - she THOUGHT she was getting 18% off of us).

Unfortunately, unless I read the service has gotten better, I probably will never go back. I don't live that close anymore and I have been told of better habachi places that have better service. I'm sorry to have to leave the place that introduced me to the wonderful world of sushi, but if they don't care about their customers, I don't care about them.

Yamado in Naperville gets ALL of my sushi business from now on. Go check out my review on them - they are MARVELOUS, even after a couple of owner changes. Consisted quality and great customer service.

Dump Domo 77.

This place is awesome. Try their TNT roll..hello sushi heaven! That's one of my favorite rolls, and I'm a big sushi lover, so that's saying alot.

On the hibachi side, don't miss the french garlic and egg yolk sauce for the shrimp. Yummy! Oh, and their calamari is awesome. Very tasty, and I'm picky about my calamari. Only two, places I'll eat it from. Here is one of them.

Also, they have half price maki from 8-9 pm.

Good decent restaurant but I don't think I'd wanna pay full price if I didn't have a Groupon, just sayin'! We ate lunch on their hibachi menu we were only ones in there on a Tuesday prime lunchtime!? I'm not a Sushi fan so I don't get the excitement of overpriced, raw fish? My Mom has always talked highly of this place so I decided to buy the Groupon but it was just ok, not much more to say!

#1 - Dont even bother buying a groupon or other deal coupon, because it's not valid for anything except 1 page of over priced dinners. They gave us 5 confusing menus for lunch, all with little notes about how this and that were not valid with Groupon or http://Restaurant.com

#2 - If you are going for the show of the Hibachi cooking you will be disappointed. Our chef slapped the cooking utensils around for like 10 seconds and that was it. not interesting, not friendly, not a show.

#3 - food wasn't bad, but it's nothing to write home about either

Conclusion - if you want to pay full price for a lackluster experience, go for it. Next time I want Hibachi I will go to Benihana

My husband and I recently went to Domo 77 for the first time. We purchased a groupon a couple of months ago and I was really excited to try it out. It turned out to be the WORST restaurant experience I've ever had. I have never been treated so poorly and the worst part was that it was my birthday.
As soon as we got seated we were asked if we had a groupon and were instructed that we could order from one specific page of the menu and from the sushi menu. The groupon stated that it was not valid for all you can eat sushi specials and you must purchase one food item. The hibachi items didn't look all that great so we thought we'd only order sushi. When the waitress came back she told us that we cannot have just the sushi. She said we HAD to order from the hibachi menu and we had to order two hibachi meals. At this point we tried to refer to the groupon and that nothing of this sort was written on it but she kept insisting that they are not responsible for the groupon and how the groupon people wrote it and she was going to go ask the manager if it is okay that we only order one hibachi meal. She later came back and said that even though both of us were required to order from the hibachi menu that they were going to let it slide this one time. She also mentioned that the manager remembers us from last time when we tried doing the same thing!!!! We had never stepped foot in that restaurant before that night! Then we proceeded with our instructions to order a hibachi style dinner and we decided to go with the vegetarian option. The waitress said that we can't order that, we HAD to get meat! What the hell does that mean?!?! The vegetarian option was one of the items on the special page we had to order from. So she went back to talk to the manager who once again did a great favor of letting us order what we actually wanted.
After all that drama we had to go through to order I was ready to walk out the door and didn't care to lose the money I had paid for the groupon because I was being treated like some intruder who is there to make their lives difficult and not like a paying customer. My husband convinced me to stay but needless to say I had a pretty mad face on. When the waitress returned she said "oh, don't be embarrassed. A lot of people have questions about their groupons" It took all I had in me not to punch her. Embarrassed? I was PISSED!!!
When the food came it was pretty good. It really is a shame because no matter how good the food is, it cannot make up for the way we were treated.
I will never return to this restaurant.

There's a very specific reason i'm giving this place one star, but just get through my introduction so you know my background.

I grew up not 5 miles from the Wheaton location. Ive been here dozens of times and the service and food has always been good. Value is on par for other hibachi style restaurants. The food show has always been flat, cooks seem disinterested compared to other restaurants where they really put an effort. But I'll let that slide since the food has always been good. Probably the best aspect about this place is that there is never a huge rush, even on fri/sat nights.

Now, why the one star? I recently redeemed a Groupon and was forced to order from an identical yet HIGHER priced menu. All the items were about 10% more expensive. This is a slap in the face to the consumer who's trying to redeem a voucher at full value only to lose some of it to sneaky business tactics. This is a very bad trend for any restaurant and I'm not sure If i want to come back, it's not like this is the only hibachi game in town.

The one star review will remain until I can confirm that this establishment has ceased this practice of overcharging on promotional coupons.

A sad sorry revision to my previous review for this establishment. Typically, I visit Domo 77 on my lunch hour. And if I ever go back - it will be on my lunch hour as well. Our dinner experience left much to be desired. I felt so foolish having raved about this to the guests we were meeting there for dinner.

We came in with a gift certificate only to be told that if we had a gift certificate that we had to order from a menu with more expensive prices. I'm sorry to be so blunt but THAT IS TOTALL BULL SHIT. Why publish coupons if they are negated by a more expensive menu.

Our service was terrible too. The waitress we had isn't the brightest star in the sky, I knew this from prior experiences with her. But - we were there for 2 hours and she only came by twice. Honestly they could have easily made another $100 off of drink orders from our group, had our waitress not had her head up another tables rear-end.

I'll go back for lunch - maybe - but never again for dinner and I'll never buy another gift certificate again!

"Domo" has several different meanings in Japanese when you say it by itself. It is a very informal way of saying thank you, nice to meet you, and excuse me. It is also the name of a small character that resembles an angry brown turd.

Domo 77 was given great reviews from my fellow binge eaters who said that it was the best in the Chicagoland area for sushi buffet so I did not come for the hibachi grill or steak. Don't people know by now that teppanyaki is just for show and that Chicago has plenty of other great steak houses? I came with a mission to see if lucky sevens would be spinning after trying their sushi.

All you can eat sushi for $23.95. There were over 50 items to choose from and everything was made to order. Specialty rolls, scallops, white tuna, and soft shell crab were all on the menu. These are expensive items that don't normally make its way on a sushi buffet. Even though we ordered in bulk, the quality did not diminish.

I definitely ordered my fill. I was given a warning by the waitress that if I didn't finish everything that there would be an extra charge. I don't know who was more shocked. The waitress and sushi chef because I ate everything or me because everything was only $23.95 a person.

This is the sushi buffet that I have been looking for. Quality and variety with a reasonable price. Cha ching 7-7-7. Domo, Domo 77.

I guess your hibachi experience really depends on how showy your chief is and unfortunately ours was not that night. It became more of a cooking lesson and less of a show after the first fork and knife flip that they do off the bat. We heard cheers and laughter at other tables and I looked over and noticed some shrimp tail flips tricks that was lacking in our service.

I ordered the lobster calamari dinner that came with a soup, salad, and appetizer. The soup was some mushroom chicken soup concoction that was just odd to have since I'm so used to the miso soup typically served at a Japanese restaurant. Next up was the salad which was just some romaine lettuce topped with some dressing in a bowl. The shrimp appetizer was one shrimp cut up into three pieces and my lobster tail matched the size of a large prawn. My veggie stir fry was more of a griddle saute that ended up with burnt bits of veggies and the burnt bits that were stuck on the griddle transferred to the fried rice. The high light of my dinner was the calamari. Yummy

I would not go for the hibachi style dinner again, but I did notice a sushi buffet that looked okay on the way out that might be a better deal then the hibachi.

Yum! My aunt brought me here for dinner for our first reunion in five years, and so glad she did! Started off with a peach bubbly - a sweet soda with bits of peach jelly(?), really good but gone in a few minutes, maybe not worth the price?

Teppan was okay - I hear their show is usually pretty fun (onion volcano!) but the whole place was hopping and the teppan chefs had a hard time keeping up with the huge lunch crowd, so our table didn't get a show. Still, the food was good, especially the scallops and the FILET MIGNON! So tender and juicy, yum.

My hands-down favorite from the night was the Godzilla roll - tempura shrimp and unagi and cream cheese and avocado and spicy mayo and who even knows what else! It was delicious! I also got a Shrimp-nator(?) roll, which was okay but a little too sweet for me.

A little on the pricey side - as a college student, I won't be coming here every day, but if my aunt decides to treat me again, this place would be it!

Go for the all you can eat sushi!

I've been here for the teppanyaki and the all you can eat sushi and it's a great place for either. It's a bit costlier than some of the other options in the area, but I would still recommend it over the other places.

The food here is great. I'll skip the usual sushi recommendations, but I would encourage you to check out the appetizers (something I don't normally do). But a friend ordered some of the fried oysters, and two of the salads (which had chunks of tuna in both). And they were DELICIOUS. I don't know why I never thought much of appetizers, but these were both amazing! The sushi is also very good, and I would say it's better made than most other sushi places.

I've also brought my parents and nephew here a few times and they love the teppanyaki section. Ever have trouble keeping a young kid entertained at a meal? I would recommend the teppanyaki place, they usually put on a good show, and it keeps everyone happy.

As far as venue goes, it's conveniently off Naperville Rd. My only warning to patrons is... if your car rides a bit low, you'll bottom out on the north side of the front parking lot.

EEEP! I was meeting my man friends parents for the first time. A swirl of different things to think about and emotions...what am I going to wear? What topics are 'parent' appropriate?

What a perfect place to go to meet the parents because they entertain you...with food none the less! There are no awkward topics to think of, not having to worry about the parentals looking at me, and in the end we were too busy enjoying the fruits of that entertainment. We all know the same tapanyaki song and dance: flipping of the shrimp tails in pockets, throwing of spatulas, the spinning egg trick, onion volcano, etc. Our Chef did that and delivered with a smile.

We ordered the teryaki chicken, steak, and salmon. Amongst all of us. We got a portabella mushrooms on the side too. It came with this amazing garlic crumble that you could possibly sprinkle on a leather shoe and it would taste good. My steak was prefectly medium and chicken was fantastic. The parents seemed to enjoy the food as well.

A great mean was had by all. No awkwardness and guess what? THEY LOVED ME!

I don't know what happened, but the service has seriously improved here in the past few months! I was hesitant to go back for a while, but my husband made me go and I'm glad I did. On our last two visits (once with quite a large group), our food seemed to come out quicker and everything just seemed more efficient. I was really pleasantly surprised!

So, with good service and good sushi, you cannot go wrong. This place has the best sushi value in the area, and tends to spoil me when I go to other sushi places and find out that I could've had a quality sushi feast at Domo for the price of two specialty rolls elsewhere. I'm going back on Tuesday and looking forward to it!

I've been going to Domo 77 and Japan 77 for about 20 years and have always loved their food. My family and I went to Domo 77 last night for dinner. We left dissatisfied as we have the last few times we've eaten there.

First off, we waited for 20 minutes before we received our soup. We did not get a hand towel like usual, and the portions seem to be getting smaller while the prices are going up.

All four of us ordered a chicken combo and when they brought out the chicken, it appeared to be of poor quality. Very fatty. I don't think there was a breast piece in the bunch. It was mostly thighs and other dark scrap looking pieces.

It's unfortuante to say but I think we are going to go try Benihana next time.

Good food for what it is.. many different items cooked on the same counter in lots and lots of oil..I'm a fan of the chicken terriaki..good fried rice - lots of fresh veggies in it. The miso soup is standard.. The salad is gross- the dressing has a strange ginger taste, and the lettuce looks like it came straight from a bag.

Service: I've gone to Domo with big groups for birthdays and such and the service was always good. However, when dining in smaller groups- or with just my boyfriend and myself- the service has been extremely under-par.

There were two incidences where we had a cook who apparently had no idea what he was doing.. he over cooked the chicken, didn't say anything to the table- and just threw it all away and started over.. add another 20 minutes to our starving stomachs..he messed up on the egg trick (i know, I wouldn't be able to do it either- but common!) ..we found out that he was new- ok, that's fine. But then to get the same guy again a few months later, and nothing had changed..

However, the most recent time we've dined at Domo was a positive experience.. I wish I could remember our cook's name so we could request him next time..

Atmosphere: Domo needs a face lift. The tiles in the ceiling are broken, and the place just looks plain dirty and dated. You don't really notice it though, as you're usually too busy conversing and watching the 'show'.

Lastly - We had a coupon and wished to redeem it when we got the check.. there was some sort of miscommunication, and they wouldn't allow us to use it? Still not sure what the issue was..

I would really really want to give this place a second try.
This review is about the AYCE sushi.

There is a pretty wide selection of sushi thats available on the menu.
Key point of interest would be the ayce scallops and ikura.
Hands down one of the best in Chicago.

Cons:
Spicy mayo was not spicy; needs more siriacha.
Everything else besides nigiri was sauced..
Whether it was sweet sake, teriyaki, man it was too much of it..
The imitation crab meat blend with cheese? and sauce.. was very repetitive.

It might have been this way because they were accommodating ~15people. Wait staff was pretty good; they checked on us from time to time and food was a bit slow and that's understandable for 15 people.
It's a pretty long commute from DT Chicago; this might be me, but it has to be worth the drive even if it's a first timer.

I would love to give this place another try with at max of 4 people.

Domo 77 is fun. Whenever I can watch someone make a volcano out of my food, I'm in!

The food is simple and delish, and you will not leave hungry. The fillet minon melts in your mouth and the shrimp was very fresh. The menu is weird to read at first. I think they could do a better job setting that up. My other complaint is that its so loud in the hibachi room with all of the vents going. I have been to other restaurants like this that have managed to keep it much quieter.

All and all though, it was a cool show with the necessary flipping the shrimp into the hat. The food was exactly what I expected it to be, fresh and yummy! With everything so well done, I don't mind paying the extra money for it. Definitely check this place out next time you are out celebrating something.

Went here with a large group on a Thursday night. Quieter than I expected. This is one of my usual stops on my Midwest trips. Our chef was the best one I've had in a while. Most of the time I'm just there for the food, but this time i was entertained. He did not have the usual cooking show I've seen times and times again.

The food was really good like usual. I got the steak and shrimp. My favorite! The best is getting the shrimp half garlic and half egg yoke.

I did notice the portions seemed to be smaller than before... this could be a good thing.. I finished everything for the first time!

My friends took me here for dinner on my 21st birthday many years ago before I went Vegan. This was the first time I went to a place like this, so I had a great time. After a few shots of Sake, I was floored by their cheery antics and flaming onion volcano.

I had the filet mignon, chicken, & California Maki combo, which was really good, but after going to other places like this, I've come to realize were only decent. But if you're looking to go with a family and have some sake, this is a fun place. But what place isn't after 4 shots of sake?

I worked there as a server for a little while. Interesting thing, I only ate the food they serve once... It was while employed, and I had to pay for it with tip to the chef. Food is moderate. Show is moderate. Service is moderate. But then, I saw all that stuff every day.

If you haven't been to a place like this before I recommend going once, just for the experience. I guess it's like a Japanese version of Medieval Times, except the chef fights the food. Nevermind.
