All in all, I really liked this bar, I just wish two things:
    1. it were easier to get to (Ugh @ the G train)
    2. they took credit/debit

That being said, I really liked this bar--the cocktails were delicious (the dark and stormy was the best I've had in NYC so far!) and their food selection is great!  Not a big beer drinker, but their menu was also excellent.  We went to celebrate my husband's birthday and we had a good time, I just wish I lived closer, or that it was easier to get to.  Well, maybe it's a good thing... :)

Was super excited to try this place based upon the reviews here, and maybe I got an off day but the bartender was very eh. We first posted up by the window and waited for a while and received no service, we moved to the bar and waited some more, even though the middle aged Mitch Hedberg look-a-like saw us and then didn't come take our order. Finally a middle aged blonde came over and took my order first. My boyfriend ordered a beer and she informed them they were out of that and something else she couldn't remember and then immediately started to walk away. It wasn't busy, no one else was waiting to order, she was just bailing.
Also, cash only. Their ATM has a $2 service fee so plan accordingly. Didn't have a chance to try the food, but can't see any reasons for returning to do so.

Great selection of beers and good cocktails but a bit out of the way for people from south Brooklyn and manhattan. An average bar - other downside - they only accept cash no cards. Lots of hipsters here too.

My friend and I had a bite to eat here before we headed over to Tropfest this past Saturday, and both the food and the service were great!

We each ordered a pint of beer and because I wasn't that hungry, I just ordered a side of fries that we shared, and she ordered the catfish sandwich with a side salad. Served with garlic mayo, the fries hit the spot, and the bite of the catfish sandwich that I had was tasty!

Because it tends to get crowded later, I recommend getting here earlier if you want to find an open table.

Nicely situated near the park, but they have a bad selection of beers. The snake bite wheat was particularly grody.

This bar used to be fantastic. I give it credit for keeping its original and amazing weekly beer list. The people and staff here, excluding Kate and D.B. (the owner) and their kitchen staff, are absolutely abhorrent. There used to be at least 3 days a week when I enjoyed coming in here, now it's begrimed with people who think they are better than you simply because they arrived an hour before. The staff, which were originally an accepting and interesting lot, will be uninterested in talking or serving you the minute you disagree with them.

A little bit out of the way for many, especially myself, but I try to go from time to time.

The beer selection is always top notch and the food is decent.

You just can't beat a consistently good beer draft menu. Period.

Came here after Googamooga in Prospect Park and it was awfully busy.  I always see how busy this place is.  They had some nice cocktails, good selection of beer and low lighting.  Good enough for me if I want a pint by the park!It was packed so I am sure anytime Prospect Park has an event, expect a crowd!

Ok. Sitting here eating pulled pork. Best pp I ever had was 10 miles south of Memphis on Hwy 61 in Mississippi.

To paraphrase Bobby D, " Abe said, 'where you want this pulled pork done?' 'God said, down on Highway 61!'"

Well, adjust your view 1000 miles NE to Brooklyn. God will be happy. So good, didn't want to taint the fries with Heinz 57.

    Shlafly beer (6) on tap.

    Be there!

Sit inside a bar and drink beer on a nice spring day?

Yep, that was me. Hey, we were seated next to the open windows, so it's not like we were actually inside some dark, dank bar (and this place is anything but). Great beer selection with a rotating list of drafts including some obscure beers. Get the fries because they're nice and crispy and evenly salted. My friends enthusiastically devoured the hot wings and declared they were delicious and warranted a return visit.

    Yep, we're sold.

The best fries.  Thats right - I said fries.  I would have never expected to find the best french fries in a bar but there I was.  Had them several times since and always the same crunchy goodness.  Well done Double Windsor!

The downside is that the place is so popular and its a self seated pub, its tough to find a seat.  You have to stalk other dinners as they are finishing up and launch yourself into a free table the moment they leave.  Not exactly the kind of laid back dining experience I would prefer.

I'm an old cranky white guy, I think.  I find many establishments in Brooklyn to by a little to pretentious and aimed at hipsters, and that's OK if you just get the food right.  I really many places around Brooklyn are all about drinking - being beer and whiskey snobs and such - but I defend Brooklyn food all the time at my job against those claiming Manhattan dining is still where it's at.  In some ways, Brooklyn's very hipster-rustic-Nashville/Portland-trendy-chic ways are in favor of the foodies, but this place disappointed me personally.  My woman's catfish sandwich seemed to please her well enough, but I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it came with MAYO.  MAYO!?!?  On pulled pork!?!?  What the what?  The menu did not say it had mayo on it so that bugged in addition to the fact that I DESPISE mayonnaise.

I took it back to the window and told the waitress I couldn't do mayo.  She sort of defensively repeated back what I said, to which I replied, "No, I can't, and your menu doesn't say it comes with mayo anyway."  To their credit I did get a new sandwich, but it was still just a'ight.  I've had better pulled pork at the Memphis airport.  Being from the south, I have very strict standards about pork as a whole and barbecue sauce as well.  The meat itself was pretty nice but the sauce was just not my cup of tea.

The fries saved it from being a total disaster - they were perfection!  And the fact that I could get a Dad's Root Beer in a bottle was pretty smiley times, too.  Otherwise, I'm glad I'm not really in that area much since there's not a lot over there that seems overly appealing.

I live one block from Double Windsor so I hang out there at least once a week.  Yesterday I had a bad experience. I was with my husband and 4 friends, we were sitting at the bar.  Three of my friends went to smoke outside. I was at the bar with my friend.  When my others friends came back they realized that the drinks were taken away and some money too.  We ask the bartender what happened with the drinks that were almost full and she told us that we shouldn't leave drinks at the bar.  So where else can we leave the drinks if we are sitting there and we just want to smoke?? She didn't even apologize for taking the drinks, she  made fun about my friend's accent, putting a nasty smile saying "I can't understand you" when she spoke to her perfect english. I am sad that DB hired somebody like her when they have such an amazing bartenders like John and Kate.

If I knew the hot wings were so damn good, I would have come here ages ago!  Hot and Sweet...the perfect combo when beer drinking, plus the fries were pretty good too.  Nice staff, the server/waitress she was fabulous...took care of everything in a flash.  Great place to people and dog watch...I'm glad Double Windsor kept the neighborhood charm!

My boyfriend and I were going to look at an apartment in South Slope, and decided on the Double Windsor as a meeting point beforehand.  We saw on the map that it was right off the subway.  Beer: check. Food: check.  Let's meet here.  I arrived about 30 minutes before BF and to my delight, this is one of those spots where a lady can sit alone, with a beer and a book, and not feel the least bit uncomfortable.  In fact, there were other ladies (and men) there doing the very same thing.  It's now been almost a week since we've moved into the aforementioned apartment, and already this is becoming our go-to spot.

For one, the beer selection is excellent.  In the 3 or 4 times I've been in there, I've never seen the same beer twice.  Their happy hour runs until 7pm, I believe, and all draughts are $4 (save for a few specialty ones).  I should note here, although I'm sure this won't come up too often, during one happy hour, I only wanted a half-pint as I had to leave in a few minutes.  Without any kind of fuss, the bartender handed it over for $2.  Some places can be kind of difficult about that sort of thing.

Moving on.  They have a somewhat limited but delicious food menu.  You could easily eat here as a "bar food" type deal, or a proper dinner.  I will most certainly be eating here again.

Finding a good neighborhood bar is like finding "the one".  It's a special feeling.  Double Windsor, you and I are going to be very happy together.

Found this gem by accident after taking a date through a stroll in Prospect Park (by my favorite place, the small lake.)

The staff is cool, the drink choices are cooler, and the place itself is nice looking. It's my go to choice whenever I'm around there.

My husband and I love this bar! Everything from the communal seating (snuggle buddies welcome), fantastic food and generous pours add to the overall warmth of this place.

They have a great beer list but if beer isn't your thing, that's cool too. My husband is a huge bourbon fan and loves this bar for their pours of $12 Bookers (supplemented with $8 glasses of Knob Creek). Their daily menu is handwritten on a chalkboard in the back but a few favorite staples include: cripsy fries, decadent sesame chicken wings, catfish sandwich with chipotle sauce and the hamburger (take a read through the reviews below mine if you don't believe me -- absolutely top notch for a neighborhood bar).

So, why 4 stars instead of 5? CASH ONLY. C'mon guys!!!

Come here after softball games at prospect park. Food is GREAT! Awesome atmosphere. Every time I go, I do get a mean vibe from bartender. She is very abrasive and unfriendly. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is bartender. Is it so hard to crack a smile and extend a friendly greeting?

I went to Double Windsor before I moved to Park Slope and asked whatever god was listening that day to please let me live near a cute, cozy neighborhood bar like that one day.

Now that I'm a few streets away, DW has become my go-to place when I don't feel like being in my apartment. And it's a damn good go-to place. It has that special way of always having juuust enough space for you. Like everyone in the bar was just waiting for you to arrive. Plus everyone - staff and guests - is so friendly. The Cheers theme song comes to mind.

Their beer selection is spectacular on the daily so you pretty much never have to check the draught list before coming.

BUT MOST IMPORTANT IS THE CHEESEBURGER. Yes, it needed all caps. The cheeseburger. Is, like. The essence of a unicorn. But in a burger. The fat, juicy LaFrieda Meat patty is so flavorful - WHAT DO THEY PUT IN IT? And the buns are from Amy's Bread. Amy's buns. (Comes w/ delicious fries, too.)

Sriracha-honey chicken wings?! You heard me. They have that. And they're sooooo good - coming from a non-wing eater.

To sum up: Cheers song, unicorn burger, Sriracha honey chicken wings, beer, me. CASH ONLY!

This place rules. Great bartenders, excellent food when the window's open, awesome craft beer selection with tasting notes & nice liquor options. Huge wrap around bar has plenty of seats for singles and the tables scattered about offer a more intimate setting. It's a nice, casual but grown up bar. You can come with a book, a date or a group of friends. I just wish I lived closer. Tell Khara behind the bar that I sent you.

Great beer selection, nice staff and awesome burgers and fries. I've meant to try other food items since the burgers are so good. It's a great sure bet when walking around Prospect Park. Nice ambiance and feel. Music is a bit random, so don't be alarmed if you get hiphop followed by Sinatra followed by Coldplay; just they way they do it.

A great, though loud, place to have a few drinks and grab a bite. It's a bit tough to find a spot, especially if you want to eat, but people there seem to take the communal seating policy to heart. My wife and I went on a Friday night and cozied up with another group until a table opened up. If you're going with more than a person or two, it might take you a bit longer.

Once you're seated, it's a solid draft list, and the bartenders seem pretty knowledgable and willing to let you sample before you order. The food is also very good - we had the wings, pulled pork, and the wild mushroom and sage pot pie (in deconstructed form so there's no soggy pastry). All of them were worth ordering again. My only criticism is that it's cash only, which is a bit of an inconvenience when you're ordering dinner in addition to drinks.

So in short: good beer, good food, nice setting, and right next to the 15 St-Prospect Park subway. We'll be returning soon.

The Double-Windsor is a Park Slope staple between my friends and I.  The vibe inside is just perfect between hipster and Brooklyn trendy, the seating is comfortable, beer selection is nearly unmatched for the area, and the food is pure comfort.  The only thing that can make TDW better is credit card payment options (cash only is a big downer).  They get a star reduction for this; at this point there is really no excuse of not offering one kind of credit card payment.  But, at least they have an ATM inside so the scramble for cash is not as annoying.

Great beer selection.  Love the food.  I am still sad they took the chicken jalapeno sandwich off the menu.  I don't go as often since I moved out of the neighborhood.  Not crazy about the hipster crowd, but I will make a occasional trip out to Windsor Terrace to eat there.

So I grew up right down the block from this place, and it used to be the neighborhood video store. I learned a lot from that place, particularly the back aisle that I used to wander off to before they roped it off and moved it to the back. That being said, I really like DW.

The beer list is awesome. Constantly changing and always accompanied by a nice little description. Semi-beer illiterates like me will really appreciate the buzz words like summery, flowery, light, dark, hoppy, etc. The friendly 'tenders will always offer a taste, and don't get all huffy when I try three different beers til I find the one I like.

Next, the food is bomb. The burger and fries are great, the breaded catfish, the fried chicken. Nom nom nom. The mac and cheese here is possibly my favorite not-homemade ever. They use big shells that get stuck in each other and form these orbs of cheesy goodness. I'm taking off a half star because they're kind of expensive, and another half because this is another establishment I grew up with that is now "cool" and a "hipster destination spot." But go. If you see Khara, giver her an extra tip. Just do it.

Always attracts a fun, hipster crowd. No matter the day of the week or the weather outside, this place always has people in it. No really.. I saw people here during Hurricane Sandy.

Anyway, I usually have a good time here. The prices are fair. I just wish there was more of an activity in this bar (i.e. music you can rock out to or at least a pac-man arcade game in the corner). In short, great for a chill night in the town but go somewhere else if you're looking for a more exciting night.

You know it's a good spot when multiple unrelated people, not all of whom live in Brooklyn, know where you're going (even when you don't) if all you say is "My friend's taking me to this great beer joint in..."

    "Ah, Double Windsor!"

Hooray for the sympatico of brew enthusiasts! My friend had promised (over drinks at Hair of the Dog in Portland) that she'd take me to DW on my upcoming visit, and I was eagerly anticipating tastes of regional brews I'd never see in Seattle. There's nothing I love more than a changing tap list, a casual convivial atmosphere, and a short (locally-sourced and seasonal) just-up-from-pub-food menu, especially when the beers are new to me (or new to my palate, even if known by reputation).

First up: the Sixpoint 3Beans. With Romano beans (historically used to supplement the mash when barley supplies were low), Mast Brothers chocolate's cacao husks, and Stumptown cold-press coffee added post-fermentation, this was my friend's recommendation as a first-try. At 10% ABV this deliciously bold and evilly strong brew goes down like the most lushly violent not-quite-porter you've ever sipped. I love the brewery's refusal to brew by category, preferring to use history as inspiration rather than a road map, and wish I could find Sixpoint out here as this was so damn good.

Second up: the SingleCut Full Stack IIPA (and a reminder of the embarrassment of riches at DW). If you check out their website, their better-than-I-can-say-it description is "Floral, dank pine and citrus aromas." Which is what I love to hear about an Imperial IPA: give me a hint of spring garden aromas, a heavy dose of resiny coniferous boughs, and a little tart grapefruit brightness and all will be f-ing right with my world. As it was.

The food is just fine here too; the kind of place where your BLT is thick and a little garlicky and crisp all at once, and the simple vinaigrette on the salad is fresh and nippy and perfect with lightness. Portions are just right, as are prices, and I can see the thoughtful emphasis on local sourcing with plenty of seasonal meal specials to go around. DW's menu is the type I'm thrilled to see more of at bars, where you can come for a beer or three yet stay and eat without feeling you're missing out.

Cash only, some communal tables, order at the bar (or the food window for eating).... Pretty simple. Great beer, good food: DW, I'll see you soon!

When this bar first opened, it was pretty great. Never crowded (at least when I went) and the beers were cheap, though a little funny tasting at times. A little bit of smugness was in the air, but it was bearable.

Fast forward to now. Every experience I've had here recently is negative. I really wanted to like it as I live so close... but I just can't. The crowds, the annoying music, the hipster douchebags have become too much for me. Plus it's a crappy place to watch a game and some moms bring in their kids during the day.

Apologies to my girlfriend Rachel, who has written a 5-star Yelp review, but I have the same objections to this place as Jerome R. I've been in twice and the vibe just felt wrong. You can feel the pretension up to your neck as soon as walking in the door. I'm not all that keen on the whole yupster scene, and chalkboard menus.

I can see why people love the place, but it's not for me.

The beer list here is always completely changed every time I go in here, and that's a great thing.  I love being handed a beer menu with full description of each beer on tap, and being able to choose which one I want first.

I also just wanna say: MAC N CHEESE WITH BACON. Yeah. Just make it happen for yourself. You won't regret it.

Also important to note: this place is PACKED every day of the week once 8 pm rolls around.

This weekend I got a tour of Windsor Terrace from a native which, of course, included checking out a couple of the neighborhood bars.  The Double Windsor was my kind of place.  It's the perfect place for a relaxed drink--lots of couples on date nights and groups of friends gathering.  Definitely a diverse group of people.  I loved the dimly lit ambience and muted wooden tones used throughout the room.

I'm not a big beer person but I did see that there was an impressive offering of brews on the menu.  I'd really like to come back here and try the food.  The menu is enticing-sounding gastropub fare and looked pretty great but we came after a sumptuous dinner and stuck to drinks only.

Overall, I had a terrific time and would highly recommend The Double Windsor.  I hope to return soon.

no neckties necessary to enter the Double Windsor, just an appreciation for good craft beers in a relaxed environment!

I've been hearing tales of this joint for a while now from my Yelp peeps, and since it was just a few blocks away from Rhythm and Booze, this was our next stop on Saturday night.

the impressive beer list immediately caught my eye. it leans towards American craft brews, lightly peppered with a few European imports. I enjoyed a nice ol' glass of 21st Amendment IPA. the beers are in the $6-8 range, which is decent. bartenders were fast and friendly.

the food menu looks good. it's a little more limited in quantity but has items like bacon mac and cheese, catfish sandwiches, falafel burgers, mussels, and more. color me intrigued, especially by that falafel burger.

very nice vibe here. shift it a few blocks over to Park Slope proper and it would be packed to the gills. instead, it was busy but not insanely so on Saturday night. we were able to get a set at a small table with some other random people, then shift to another table when that cleared a few minutes later. and there was a big TV in one corner of the ceiling playing "Ben Hur" for some reason!

this is the kind of bar that Windsor Terrace has long needed. keep up the good work!

This place is busy enough to make it rough getting a seat on a weekday. I can't confirm why, but the following are my suspicions:
    *Bunches of beers on tap
    *Friendly, easy-breezy waitress
*Above average bar food (I had this garlic broccoli side special... I don't know what what they did with it but it was delish / the mussels were okay, too)

I wish they had more seats and accepted credit cards... but maybe this is just their way of having one issue fix the other. ;-)

Terrific place! Great tap list, delicious food and nice neighborhood vibe. A few TVs, but not too intrusive, especially since they're usually playing old black-and-white movies.

Only downside is the cash-only policy, but given how great this is - not a huge deal.

I know this is a bar serving up delish craft beer but let's get to business - the cheeseburger, though not cheap*, is fantastic. Stop in during happy hour** for a $4 pint to balance out the tab. Friendly staff, communal seating, cash only!

    *14.70 after tax
    **12 oz servings sadly excluded

I've been wanting to go here since this summer but 2 things have stopped me: it's always packed and it's cash only. I finally made it here! I love how dark but home-y it feels with the xmas lights that run around the ceiling.

You order at the bar for drinks and at a window for food. They have a great menu though it isn't large it's well thought out. I had to order a burger though with the fries which are perfectly cooked - thin and crispy!  You have a choice of salad or fries though and for the other sandwich type dishes, it seems to come with either fries or salad. The two friends I was with ordered the falafel burger with salads.

I had been craving hard cider since last week was Cider Week. They had bottled Doc's Draft Hard Cider for $6 which is sorta steep but I got it anyways and I'm so glad I did because it was delicious. I wanted to order another one but I stopped myself.

Will be back - I definitely want to try the mussels and fries and the mac and cheese! Plus everything else.

The Double Windsor makes me want to pack up my things and move to Park Slope, just so I could have their burgers and fries at least twice a week! Take a look at the picture I uploaded of the burger and fries I ordered: who wouldn't want to have a delicious meal like that weekly?

A friend and I stumbled upon this place when our hunger pangs got to us as we were walking around the neighborhood. We were both seriously craving burgers and fries with beer, so naturally this gastropub caught our eye-and I'm glad it did. The chalkboards with the drink menu and the food menu scribbled on them were nice touches to their wooden interior and laid-back ambiance. I ordered my beer at the bar, then got up and went to the back next to the kitchen, where I placed my order and paid on the spot, at the register. Nice! (However, it's cash only, but they do have an ATM). I was given a number, and pretty soon my burger and fries were plopped in front of me.

The burger was oh-so-delish, with sexy grill marks and not a bit of oil or grease in sight. The bun was toasted, and the fries were my equivalent of turkish delight...if there were a wicked witch of the Double Windsor wooing me with never-ending plates of french fries, well, I would be suckered into doing whatever they wanted me to do! Even though the portion was huge, I cleaned my plate, and left with a huge belly and an even huger smile.

Sadly I don't live near Park Slope but when I return to the neighborhood, I'll make sure to go hungry, bring cash, and head straight to this place right off the F/G trains.

    I love this place!
I love the happy hour, love the staff, love the descriptions on the beer menu, and love the food. The beer selection is wonderful and always rotating. The food is delicious and always looks so as well, but can be a bit pricey for a bar. The seating situation can be hit or miss, depending on the day of the week, or time of day. For example, weekday happy hour: will likely get a seat. Weekend nights: not likely at all. As opposed to 5th ave bars ("South Slope"), it draws people from all over, so can get really crowded at times. Beware of APV% per beer as you can get boozed up really quick if youre not careful, unless thats your intention.

That being said, still a spot not to be missed for beer and food.
