PEANUTS EVERYWHERE!! It's one of those places where you just drop the shells (that's what they're called right?) on the ground. There are tons of stuff on the walls so if you're easily distracted like me, you'll be entertained just by looking at the place. They host local bands most nights, so that's always a plus (If you have the chance to see a band called Stomp Status, DO IT). The crowd is very interesting: it's mixed between college (GMU is literally across the road) and, I'd say, people in their 40's-50's. A friend said that his dad used to go to this bar. They have a pretty large selection of drafts so if you like beer, you'll be happy. Bartenders are OK; they can be slow, both noticing you and getting your drink out. Haven't had the food but I hear it's pretty great. I'd go again to see a band.
Review Source:This is a local hang out, no matter what your age... Â There are really no good bars or local food joints where you can get a good happy hour. Â Â We hadn't been here for months because their food had started to decline a few months back. Â This time, we were determined to enjoy their half price Monday menu. Â Â Once we got there, hmmm, no half price Monday menu but they did have a special where you get a free soup or salad with an entree. Â Their happy drink menus were $3 for beer, wine, rails, hurricanes. Â They lather the tables with peanuts! Â
Yes, it's true, once you walk in, you will feel like you stepped back in time, including the age of the furniture but that's what makes this a local dive bar. Â Â
Last night it was very quiet, so better service for us. Â Looks like the menu had a few changes. Â Â We tried the fried pickles, wings, and the 'red beans and rice'. Â Â We used to get the beans and rice in a cup but that was no longer an option on the menu. Â We also used to get the onion rings, and that is now only available on Wednesdays. Â
As far as the food quality, everything was very fresh. Â The red beans and rice were spot on as far as spice. Â Their garlic toast is the best for dipping in the beans. Â You couldn't ask for anything better and that's why I like coming here.
Dan F (read his angry "now I have kids and life sucks" review) loves the place until they decide not to let his crummy kids hang out. Â GUESS WHAT....there have to be some places where screaming kids aren't allowed. Â Where I can go, get a cheap beer, eat free peanuts and bitch about my life. Â This is that place. Â Decent food, tv's ugly decorations and a video game or two. Â We need these places more than we need another potbelly or pnc bank. Â They always have some good beers on tap and make a roast beef sandwich with real aujus on the side.
