Perfect place to hang out and drink during the heatwave.  Came here for a friend's birthday and we had a blast.  The breeze kept me cool, the $16 LITs kept me drunk, and the company kept me happy.  All around a good experience.

I liked the atmosphere and the setting. The food is good, but nothing too special. I'd recommend to go there for a drink with a group of friends.

Alrighty! Where do I start? So its a boat with beer and food. I definitely would not qualify this place as classy by any means. It is priced to fit a Manhattan restaurant that is located on the water. This is a serve yourself kinda place so its great for anyone who "lost there ID!?!" The bar tenders and cooks are very nice and knowledgeable. You are allowed to bring your dog! That was actually why I decided to go there! The crowd is between mid-twenties and mid-thirties. Average straight guys. I had a burger which was a decent frozen burger that you would find in any supermarket. My friend had the steak. Not bad I have to say... Not bad at all. The garlic fries were also pretty decent. Drinks were average as well. Dropped about 100 bucks for a bucket of coronas, pitcher of sangria and two entrees. All in all I recommend this place if you want to get some sun and get drunk with friends on a boat.

I was gonna give this place a 4 star because its far from public transportation and the drinks are pricey. But my experience there was so perfect I didn't really have a reason to knock off a star.
Me and my friend went on a Friday at around 4 and it was by far one of the best drinking/dining experiences I've ever had. The view from the boat itself is enough reason why everyone should come here. As I said, the mixed drinks were expensive but they were all very delicious! We also kept smelling delicious food from the kitchen which was great. They have a dancing place more towards the front of the boat too.
Although the drinks are expensive the desserts and food are of normal prices so I would recommend getting that as well. And last, I LOVE the crowds. They are young, cute and fun!

Got the fries.  Food = Eh.

You really come for the view and to hang out with friends.

    I love this place.

The food can be a little better but besides that everything was on point.
The view makes up for everything.

So this place is pretty cool given that its situated on a barge in the Hudson river with a docked boat that you can venture onto to sit.  A few things to know about this place:
    1. It's definitely a scene during peak hours.  A good place to day drink with friends and be with a lot of people since its a pretty big place.
    2. Go with a group.  Of course, you don't have to and you can enjoy yourself with one or two friends but I think what makes this place the MOST fun is when you manage to grab a table with 5+ people.  They have bucket of Coronas (their thing), fairly decent Sangria and so-so food.

Three stars because I personally think it is overrated the drinks (and prices) are nothing at all special.  This place is about the experience.  Ideal on a nice day with a large group.

Oh Frying Pan, you are starting to grow on me.  Most of the gripes remain (See below), but this place is much better on a week night.  Go for Happy Hour.  Go with Friends.  Go with people who will buy you drinks.  Go West Young Man/Woman.

The setting is great, but the beers are so-so, but I would stick with the Golden Ale at the main bar- 7 bucks for a draft.  Sweat it out, live it up, and take it all in.

This place was an interesting find. Just so you know it is out on an old boat so it rocks a little while you eat. You can go very high upstairs and have a nice view of the sunset over Hoboken while your having your dinner. Might I suggest the crab cakes, french fries and white sangria. All of these were very good. There is not table service here, but even with ordering and picking up they have a good system and it is a good presentation. This place was a lot of fun. It is my understanding they have quite a drinking crowd on some evenings but when we went for dinner it was lovely. Thanks for reading and enjoy.

Hey guys. The Frying Pan is a great idea with a lot of social buzz flying around it at the moment, but here it is: there's a bitch who greets you and she acts like she owns the place when she's really just full of bullshit, bad manners, and horrible attitude.

My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and we had obviously been really excited, dressed up, and eager to try this place. Not only did the hostess take my boyfriend's ID away, she also refused to give us a seat even when we persisted that we didn't want to have any alcohol. She literally said, "You have to leave."

Frying Pan isn't in a crowded, popular area, it's not a place you can reach easily. We had to take a 21 dollar cab ride to get to Frying Pan. All I'm saying is, the hostess could have turned us down nicer, or suggested another place to eat, but she did neither. Instead she ruined a night that was special to us. We had to take another cab out of the pier, to another restaurant.

4 star for the atmosphere and the views, good for the overall experience.

Downside: Average drinks, I had wine and marguerites. Below average appetizers and over priced. Garlic fries were good, avoid oily salads and watery humus.

If you want to drink outdoors on a sunny day in NYC and Frying pan isn't one of the first places that comes to mind, you 're not yet a New Yorker.

It's not an easy place to reach using public transportation.  I'd say cab it there and hipefully you're lucky enough to find a cab home in the same area.

Get the Bucket of Coronas, find a table, and just chill, the bottom area is social, but the top is a nice isolated spot if you want to converse with your friends and your friends only.

My only real advice that you should take away from this is thatyou should be prepared to wait in line. On most occassions the line moves steadily, but it's never a place you can just walk into.

Such a great place to hang out with friends on a boat. Expect to pay $35 for a bucket of Coronas.

We made the mistake of going here in 90 degree heat.

At first I thought it would be a good idea to get some fresh air by the Hudson, but yea, there was no wind in sight.  But the sangria was really good and they had some nice summery beers available.

I ordered a sirloin steak sandwich that wasn't bad.  I think we picked a good time of day to go (lunch time!) and didn't have to worry about it being too crowded.

I just think it's one of those places everybody has to try at least once.  And I'll try again when it's cooler out.

The biggest reason to come here is for the view of the Hudson, and it is certainly as good as advertised. If you ever think your friends or loved ones will be impressed you ate at a restaurant on a boat, this would be the one to tell them about in New York City.

I came here with my friend and a couple of his friends to keep his going-away party humming along and we got a pitcher of beer and some calimari. The calimari was decent, but the pitcher was expensive and the draft selection was underwhelming. Also, the wait staff was not pleasant at all. We were there when the 4th of July fireworks were going for a trial run, and the staff were trying to kick everybody off the top of the boat while the fireworks were going on instead of waiting 5 minutes!

Add to that the fact that the place is more than a stone's throw away from any subways, and it's too much of an effort to come here for anything more than a view of Jersey, and even then, why pay a premium price for midlevel food and booze?

A little embarrassed that after living in NYC for 5 years, I finally experienced the Frying pan today! Great weather just begs you be no where else but the pan. Beautiful view especially on the top tier of the barge. Will likely be returning every week during summer! Despite how crowded it gets, still worth visiting versus the overpriced, pretentious MPD rooftops. Minus 1 star for lack of music, c'mon, just play some itunes at least!

we went here because of the atmosphere, on the piers seems like  a great idea.

The views were nice, but the food was terrible. Had the calamari which was flavorless even with the accompanying sauces.  Beer was like water with beer flavor.

eek ! Me thinks Not.   and I'll order from somewhere else and not go back.

Still 2 stars because I like girls in sundresses, but oh how the years have aged FP for the worse.

The simultaneously vibrant and chill spot of yesteryear has been taken over by wannabe fratsters and bro douches, creating long lines, slow booze access, and a much less desirable crowd.

I'd yelp all my excellent replacement outdoor cocktail spots, but I fear that they, too, will be subject to the bro takeover.  Girls in sundresses feel free to message for suggestions.

The view on a nice sunny day and sunset makes it all worth.

Had the burger and Old Bay fries, they were nothing special. I wasn't a fan of the bread, but for a burger. It was adequate.

The blueberry beer, had a hint of blueberry. I was a fan of that.

My tip(s): either go early to commandeer a seat on the deck, or go when it's supposed to rain lightly, then quickly grab a seat when the rain dissipates (like we did)

They could use a happy hour, if they already have one, I sure missed it...I guess that's another reason to go back

I respect the Frying Pan. It could probably be a cash cow even if it served crappy food and just served lame ass macrobrew like Budweiser. Thankfully the Frying Pan did not follow the business model of Cantina Marina (a DC locale with a similar physical set-up), and actually decided to produce decent food and drink.

I had the PEI mussels in a "spicy" tomato sauce. I say "spicy" because it really wasn't spicy. Even though it didn't have that kick, the sauce did have some taste and went well with the mussels. I also thought the portion size was more than adequate and a reasonable value for $12. My companions seemed quite content with their crab cake and burger as well.

As for my drink, the pale ale wasn't bad and definitely better than any macrobrew. I wouldn't say it was hops heaven, but it was a respectable beer.

The Frying Pan isn't a bad place to grab food and drink. Provides nice views of the surrounding area, and has a nice, chill vibe. Perhaps it was due to timing (I was there around 5:45 PM on a Sunday) , but I didn't really notice a d-bag factor thankfully.

I'd definitely go back if I were in the area. Pretty good food, nice views, chill vibe. Not bad at all...

Def a fun spot in the warmer weather. The sangria was pretty tasty as were the mussels and fries. Burger was whatevs, but I was starving so it was amazing under those circumstances.

Not really the place to go if you're exhausted-long line to get in and then you have to find your own table. But outdoor drinking on a boat is always fun. The day I went, they were testing out the fireworks for the 4th so that was a nice surprise.

I LOVE this place.  That Fact notwithstanding, I'm still going to give it four stars because there are some small cons to this place.

The most poppin' nights are Friday & Saturday.  If you approach the venue on those days, you'll notice a line extending south, almost a block long.  Don't be alarmed by this.  The line moves very rapidly (~10-15 minutes from the end of the line to entry).  The battle has only begun at this point.  Once inside, finding an open table (and additional chairs) for your party is the next hurdle.  If you're like me and my crew, you've already sent in an advance team strictly to accomplish this mission.

Once you've found  a table and seats, you'll have to take turns venturing away for food and drinks, both of which must be ordered at the bar.  There is no table service here (Not too big a problem).  If you're rolling with a group, I recommend the Sangria Pitcher topped with seasonal fruit.  There's also the option of a bucket of Coronas for the same price ($37).

"What about the food?," you say.  They've got something for everyone.  Vegetarian options, Hot Dogs, Burgers, Wraps, Seafood... everything.  I'm sure you'll find something you like.  Their seasoned fries are excellent and they go with everything.

    Know before you go:

Read the parking signs carefully!  There is available street parking but in some nearby areas the "No Parking" times are at odd hours.  So stay sharp and/or leave on time.

Why Come Here? It's a beautiful day and you want to drink with several hundred New Yorkers outside on a (docked) boat

At some point this summer, you'll probably find yourself at the Frying Pan. And while you're there, you will run into someone you know. That's because Frying Pan is one of Manhattan's most popular outdoor drinking space and for many good reasons. To start, the Frying Pan is a retired lightship that's permanently docked at Pier 66 on the Hudson (at about 26th Street) which means panoramic views up and down the Hudson (and of course across to New Jersey) in addition to the fact you get to drink on a boat. Combine that with tasty Sangria on tap and a rotating selection of New York State craft beers (try the Capt. Lawrence) and you may wonder: what's not to love?

The answer, as with many popular bars, is much of the food. But as day turns to night and you're sipping your fourth glass of sangria, you'll probably want to consider putting something a little more solid in your stomach. Fortunately if you make the right decisions, you can eat a tasty light meal here. Here are my recommendations:

Roasted Garlic Hummus  Good hummus, good olives and a very tasty grilled flat bread. If you want to keep it healthy, this is probably your best option.

Old Bay Garlic Fries  You're on a boat, so you logically want to put seafood seasoning on everything. Fortunately on fries, it happens to be delicious.

Lemon-Herb Chicken Wrap  The flat bread and tzatziki give this a great, light Mediterranean flavor.

Grilled 8 oz Sirloin Burger  A meaty burger with a good char that won't let you down if you're looking for something more substantial.

Boat + sunshine + sangria + french fries with old bay (maybe?) + the breeze + music = is this real life?

Good god, I love the frying pan. I know a lot of people are mad at how crowded it is nowadays and how it's not "secret" anymore, but really, who cares? If you get there when they open on a saturday/sunday, or literally, the second after you get out of work, you won't have a problem.

There are tons of tables and if you can't find a table, there's plenty of standing room! Although, staking your claim on a table is way better :) The view is the best. Right on the water. What more could you ask for?

The pitchers of sangria here are delicious. Not very strong, so you literally have to drink a lot to get drunk. Or maybe that's just me. They also have wine and beer and maybe mixed drinks, but I'm not completely sure about that.

I've only ever eaten the fries here, but they are above and beyond normal fries (maybe that's an exaggeration). I'm pretty sure it's old bay seasoning on top of them. I could probably eat 10 pounds of them. They have other food, too, I believe.

I can't wait to come here more throughout the summer.

    Frying Pan, I love you.

Such a big fan of this place. WIll definitely be going back soon.

First of all... it's a bar on a boat. It doesn't get much cooler than that. The boat is docked at Pier 66 in Chelsea on the West Side. The view here is BEAUTIFUL. It overlooks such an amazing skyline and is a great place to visit with friends, esp if it's good weather outside. As far as I know there's no cover. I went on a Sat night around 9pm and it was packed! There were tons of people of all different age groups. My first impression was that it was a relaxed, hip atmosphere.

    The Pros:
    -Plenty of seating/standing room
    -Big bar with quick service
    -Amazing view
    -Fun music playing

    (Possible) Cons:
-The boat rocks a bit, don't be scared!
-Drinks a bit pricey (but hey no cover)

I really like how there are several levels. I highly recommend the very top. You won't regret it! Can't wait to come back here with a bigger group. Busy... but quiet enough to have a decent conversation with friends.

If you're not from here, and you ever wonder whether "Summer Fridays" really are a thing or not, just venture to the Frying Pan on a Summer Friday. You will soon find out.

I have to give a shout out to my main man Frederick, who seemed to be in charge of the floor that day. We searched high and low for chairs for two more people that joined us, and he scoped some out for us and had them brought to our table. Not that I expected much from the Sperry and salmon short clad bunch of dudes next to us, but seriously they had at least four empty chairs with them for two hours straight, yet were unwilling to share (as are most people here since extra chairs are a hot commodity).

On Fridays, they run a special on Corona buckets (can't remember the exact prices) but it must be some kinda sweet deal because I'm pretty sure that's all I saw people drinking. Well, that and the white wine sangria that caught my eye and my tastebuds. Refreshing, fruity, and too sweet for some but not me.

I loved the view of the Hudson (literally, you're on it), the swaying of the boat, and the general party atmosphere. An extra plus, the bathroom situation is quite pleasant! It's down in the cabin of the boat, but the stalls are plentiful. The Fyring Pan is obviously the place to be, as evidenced by the line a few blocks long to get in after about 5pm, and I'd gladly spend another Friday afternoon here in the future.

I had no idea that the Frying Pan hosted a Ray Ban Wayfarer community meet-up every single day.

The crowd is grown up frat/sorority folk, but the view is great, the breeze on a Summer afternoon is heavenly, and drinking beer outdoors is God's way of apologizing for feline herpes. Not a bad day to spend an afternoon.

Cool place to hangout and enjoy some drinks.
It is quite pricey but I guess its because you're on a boat (that doesn't move) and the views.

A Burger and fries cost $18 and a bottle of Corona was $7. Skip the over priced burger and fries, there's nothing special about them. Unless ,you like greasy burgers that have hot oil pouring out with every bite.

Its really crowded therefore finding a seat is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I literally walked around in circles for about 15 minutes looking for a table. Once I sat down at the main level of the boat, I  started to feel the motion of the sea -_-
But I got distracted by all the drunk people either walking too close to the wall or bumping into it. I'm surprised no one's gone overboard yet...

Overall, I really enjoyed this place(:

I love this place! Lunch, Happy hour, Dinner, I have been here for it all, and with all different groups, and it is always a success. The view is incredible and great for groups!
Good for groups also because you pay at the bar and bring it to your table, no mess with splitting bills...
Had Lamb meatballs, Crab cakes with Avocado, and chicken wrap. Starters  were good but chicken was dry....
Sangria is amazing! Mango and blueberry! YUM!
Great on a sunny fall spring or summer day!!!
Bring sunscreen because not much area is covered on the upper level.

I have only come here once for a quick drink, but i loved the location of it. You can sit outside and enjoy the water and the NY scenery. You should come when the weather is nice out, and take advantage of spending the day outside and having a few drinks with good company.
    Try this place out!

I don't see what the big deal is about this place. It's way too crowded and loud.

Yes, it's a great place to people watch. The people here are mostly in their 20's and early 30s and drunk as all hell.

The drinks are quite pricey. Seats are hard to find during the summer and it takes about 1-2 hours, if the weather is nice, just to get on the boat.

If you're nostalgic for a college frat party, this is the place for you. If, however, you have since graduated on to scenes involving less vomit, you may want to spend your weekend afternoons elsewhere.

Fav. spot for the summer! You can't beat the location and being out on the water. (Hence the 5 stars).

Food and beer are just as average as any other place in both price and taste. Old Bay Garlic Fries are good but small for $5.

Last time we went there was a long line, but it went fast and surprisingly wasn't that packed on the boat. Was able to find a table within 5 minutes. Got less crowded around 10:30.

Only draw back is that they close at 12.

A cool place to get a drink, especially when it's warm and sunny outside.  The bar is located on a barge on the Hudson and you get a great view of the surrounding area.  If you sit on the top part of the bar you get a great view of Chelsea, Midtown, and across the river into Jersey.

In terms of the drinks, it's about on par with the most nice bars with pints at $7 and pitchers about $28.

My second time visiting and it reminded me of why I stay away from this place. Every single person I've encountered that works there has been extremely rude and douchey. Drinks are severely watered down and if you ask for a little more alcohol, they'll laugh in your face. If you're the B&T/Waspy/Brah types, you'll fit right in. The workers there are just like you. If you have an issue, don't bother talking to management, he's a frat boy who just got out of college and landed a gig on a boat that makes his head bigger than it ought to be. He doesn't care about customer service. He's on a boat.

You'll probably have a better time at a rooftop somewhere or beekman beer garden if you're looking for a view of the water. Service is way better there and they haven't let their awesome location go to their heads yet.

I finally made it to the Frying Pan, and luckily it was early on a Thursday-- I can see right away that the crowd in this place on a Friday/Saturday must get riDONKulous...

I actually liked it here for my one and only visit, but I don't think I'd ever go again. I was under the impression the Frying Pan was a classy joint, but not so. It IS a boat, that's true, and it's definitely pretty cool sitting there with views of the river, the sun, the sky... Jersey. But it also feels like it's purposely set up for mega-high volume crowds; It's basically a place to slam together as many college-age bodies as possible, and pump out food and drink orders, and for that it serves its purpose well. There's no table service, this place basically runs like a factory.

    I really love Frying Pan.

    Bar on a Boat.
    Dog Friendly.
    Pat la Frieda Burgers.
    Old Bay Garlic Fries.

Sounds like a 5 star review.... so what makes it 3 stars?

The Frying Pan has just gotten too popular in the past few years.  Too busy and the lines are way too long.

The only way I enjoy Frying Pan is during the holidays when most New Yorkers are out of town or during the weekends (early in the afternoon).

    ENJOY!!

The views are very nice especially from the top deck late at night. The drinks and food on the other hand are not up to par. The giant bucket of coronas are overpriced. The sangria is very sweet and makes me feel sick afterwards. The food menu is limited but slightly better than the drinks overall.

There is also a crazy line on Saturday and Sundays during the day in the summer so you kill about an hour or more just trying to get in. There are no servers so you have to fight to place orders at the bar and then bring it back to the table. I think its ok for a huge group or taking an out of town friend but I have never really had fun drinking on a stationary boat not going anywhere.

After hearing many good things about the Frying Pan, my friend and I decided to make the long walking trip there from Union Square. Fifteen minutes into our trek across the city, I started to really question if this place was really worth the 8 avenues + 12 streets walk. Anyways, we finally arrived at the pier and boy, were we surprised at what a gem this place was!

We came on a Friday evening, around 9pm or so, and this place was packed! It was the perfect spring night weather and we situated ourselves at a quieter table near the river, facing the NJ skyline. The place was actually pretty big - there is a large, open, seating area as well as a boat - and it is great for huge crowds. The drinks were reasonably priced, the bartenders are nice, and the atmosphere was lively. And also, just the fact that you're on a boat... pretty neat stuff!

Pros (which I will say outweigh the cons): You're on a boat, great place to drink on a nice day out, good looking crowd.
Cons: mixed drinks are ridiculously watered down, boatloads (pun intended) of B&T/Murray Hill types with Michael Kors bags and their accompanying bros with the top button unbuttoned and the collar popped with egregious hair gel that screams NASSAU F*NG COUNTY!

Actually wait the pros dont outweigh the cons haha. Its pretty even I'd say. The drinks are also on the expensive side, but cmon...you're on a boat. Personally I'd rather go to the boat basin but most of the time this is a bit easier for people to get a group together in. If you're new in town check it out....after one or two times the gimmick wears off.
