Before I go any further, I want to say we had a stuffed pizza from Giordano's-Naperville. It was very good -- what we have come to expect.
But the service was different. Â I had called in a pizza for pickup. Â I suspected there might be a problem from the start. Â It was clear that English was not the first language of the person who picked up the call and took my order. Â Fortunately, the order was simple and I could state it 4 words - large, stuffed, special pizza. Â When asked for a name, I provided my first name and spelled out the 4 letters slowly and carefully.
When we arrived 45 minutes later to pick up the pizza, they said they didn't have an order us. Â After going round and round for 5 minutes or so, it turns out that they had it under a surname that only shared the first letter with the name I had spelled for them. Â Wasted time, but we did get our pizza.
We got home and opened up the pizza box. Â We had our stuffed pizza, but they had neglected to cut it into slices. Â Really!! Â Who doesn't cut a pizza?! Â It wasn't like they were particularly busy. Â Our order was before the rush of the evening dining.
This experience won't stop us from getting a pizza at the Naperville Giordano's again. Â All things considered, the service mistakes were small. Â Nevertheless, they indicate that the management of this restaurant is losing the handle on the quality of their service and it is affecting their customers.
This was our go-to pizza place until we moved out-of-state. Â We LOVE their deep-dish. Â Thin crust, in my opinion, is better than Lou's. Don't get me wrong, we love Lou Malnati's, too, but Giordano's thin is better. Â Both G and D are awesome in their own way, but we love all the cheese on Giordano's, the pepperoni and the sauce. Â Parking in this location is tough! Â We would go pick up our pies. Â One of us would drop the other off in front to run in and get them, drive around the block a few times and pick them up. Â Be prepared for your stuffed pizza to take 45 minutes to cook. Â We have eaten inside the restaurant. Â It's very nice. Â Good service. Â Remember to look for coupons just to help bring the cost down.
Since moving from Naperville to MN, it's really now just hitting me how much I loved this pizza. Â Chain pizza places just can't stand up to the ingredients, freshness and made-to-order. Oh my, I could just cry. Â I miss it THAT much. Â It IS expensive, but you'll be hard pressed to find better-unless you're in New York. Â When I die, I want Giordano's served after the funeral. Â I kid you not.
Arrived at noon on Saturday, and we were the first customers. Â That should of been the first sign to get out, and go somewhere else. Â Order sodas, $3 each, and they were flat. Â Pizza was high in MSG or something because I was crazy thirsty afterwards. Â Finally, they refused to honor the coupon. Â By the way, I spent $70 there, two large pizzas and sodas. Â Yikes!! Â Will not go back, again.
Review Source:I know my review probably isn't fair to most of you. But there's just something about this Giordano's location. It's cramped and slow. I think a bigger location would suit them well.
Everyone has their favorite Chicago pizza, and Giordano's is at the bottom of my list. This isn't to say it's BAD, but I just find it bland and nothing special. The sauce is nothing, the crust is mediocre at best, and it's not a cheap meal.
Bah humbug, I guess. I'd take Lou Malnati's or Gino's East any day over this place.
I went this past weekend with my boyfriend, it had been about two years since we had Giordano's so we were excited! We ordered out stuffed pizza before we were seated since it was packed! After 30 minutes of waiting, we were finally seated. The server took about 10 minutes to come to our table. She took our drink order and confirmed that the pizza will be coming soon. When we got out pizza it was cold..but yet tasty, we both wish it were a bit warmer but we didn't say anything.
Review Source:We get delivery. Â It's really good because it arrives hot and in the time frame that they tell you. Â I'm not a fan of deep dish in general, but Giordano's has a good version of this Chicago-style pizza favorite. Â What I'm a bigger fan of is their chicken wings - big and very meaty. Â I also love their french fries. Â They make a mean submarine sandwich too. Â Put the other half of the sub in the fridge and the next day the bread still has its balance of firm outside and soft inside. Â No soggy bread to deal with later. Â Prices are good. Â Customer service has always been friendly.
Review Source:I went to the location in dt naperville last night to pick up my pizza. The one star is for the rude woman in her 50s with short blond hair who I think was a manager. I told her on the phone repeatedly that I wanted the " special" with only half sausage. I know this bc I don't eat sausage. When I got there she rudely interrupted me to tell me she had taken the call herself and no I said no mushroom. I attempted to tell her that wasn't true but she again interrupted me getting louder stating SHE had taken the call herself (as if she was the end all be all in phone orders) and she didn't make a mistake. She wouldnt fix it. My friend insisted we just take it and go.
I've loved this place for over 10 years but will not be coming back due to this woman. She's rude, loud and horrible with customer service. If she's a manager, that's even worse.
I went here the other day with one of my best girlfriends and I believe this was my first time dining at this location. We wanted to bop around downtown Naperville on a Saturday night and snag some pizza. We called ahead before we even left the house to see if they would accept reservations (or if they found them to be necessary) and they said they were pretty busy but we decided to wait it out. We did have an option to pre-order our pizza once we got there and put our name down, but we weren't in some huge hurry or looking to shorten our time out. Luckily, their buzzers have a two block radius so you can spend your time waiting somewhere a little better than a crowded waiting space filled with hungry people. We bopped around Anderson's Bookstore whilst waiting for our pizza.
As we arrived back,we were seated and easily ordered. We started with the Spinach Artichoke dip, which luckily wasn't served with chips, but instead came with little slices of garlic toast, which were a much better pairing and it made it way easier to scarf down. We ordered a small deep dish that didn't take too long to get there and was brought out in good accordance to the time we finished our appetizer. The service was really good as well and for it being a busy Saturday night, everything was expedient. I was bummed that one of the only times I went to order a drink while I was out, was the one time that the restaurant was out of tonic. Oh well, I suppose I saved myself seven bucks.
I read in a previous review that they didn't have pineapple, however, I actually got excited the other night because they did have it. I really wanted it on half of my pizza, but decided to get sausage instead. At this point in time I could totally down some pineapple stuffed crust...Here's to next time!
We went there with family about two months ago and great service. Â They were so so so packed and you can place your order early and belly up to the bar, drink a few, your buzzer goes off and by time you sit down your pizza comes up in about 15 minutes! Â Great homemade mayo based dressing. Â Thick and thin pizzas are amazing. Â If you like meat get sausage and mushrooms. Â They literally cover the whole pizza with a sausage patty...bring some tums! Â They do not have pineapple :( Â But anything there is serious amazing. Â Lots of cheese and lots of take home boxes!
Review Source:Came here one night with a couple friends to try out their famous deep dish pizza. Did not call beforehand and so we had to wait ~40 minutes for it to come out, will definitely do that next time.
We also ordered the garlic bread, which was alright. I think I'll go for the mozzarella sticks next time.
Ordered half jalapenos and pepperoni half sausage. Both were decently good, I might have been slightly disappointed because I was expecting to have my mind blown at the goodness of this pizza. It was a pretty big pizza and we ended up taking a couple slices home.
Lo and behold, my mind was blown the next day. Giordano's pizza has to be the BEST TASTING reheated pizza I have ever had. No joke, i would honestly say it tasted better reheated than when I had it at the restaurant. No doubt this might have been a fluke and is definitely worth a second trial. I definitely look forward to testing this out again.
When talking about Giordano's, it's almost impossible to not talk about Lou Malnati's as well. Both of these iconic Chicago pizzas are great and it's really tough to choose which one of them is better. In my opinion, both of them are winners in their own way. Lou Malnati's if you like a nice buttery flavor and a strong aroma from your ingredients and Giordano's if you like your pizza a little wetter, fresher tasting, and lighter. I wouldn't mind having either one any day of the week and my special stuffed crust pizza and tropic delight pizza I had on my last trip were both excellent. This was complemented by a very addictive cheese garlic tomato bread as an appetizer. I've gone to several Giordano's locations now and the food never disappoints.
Review Source:A little note, sign up for Groupon and you will save more! Preorder your pizza, and just start with the Mozarella sticks because they will fill your stomach just right as you anxiously wait for a struffed crust pizza!
I get mine with Spinach and order a small. 2 slices is enough for me! YUM! :)
Giordano's is my favorite deep-dish pizza of all time! At my office we often order Lou's because my office manager likes it and I'm always disappointed because to me Giordano's is the best!
It's the combination of the crispy crust on the edge of the pizza with the soft doughy base; the tomato sauce the covers the tops is perfection, and the cheese and sausage are the perfect ingredients in between both.
On my last visit, I ordered takeout. A large deep-dish cheese and sausage pizza, yum! I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't cut for me when I got home, I mean who doesn't cut a pizza before they give it to the customer? Â Giordano's still is my favorite for deep-dish but I think their Customer Service could use some work.
Also, the location is under construction right now so getting in and out of the restaurant is not as easy as it could be.
My husband loves to go to Giordano's in Naperville downtown. Since we moved to IL (3 years ago) we have been visiting this place with family and friends. Unfortunately, the last two visits were a disaster. On one occasion the greater forgot to tell the waiter. We were waiting for about 20 minutes for her. She was very nice and she apologized for the delay and explained what happened. After our wait the manager came to tell us that one of our pizza was spill with beer and we have to wait 20 additional minutes.
I was very disappointed with this and we decided not to coming back... :(
The last time our order took almost an hour to came out :(
Giordano's serves the classic Chicago style deep dish pizza, with other Italian classics including various pasta dishes, as well as salads. The wait staff is friendly and courteous, the place is clean is respectable, and kid friendly.
The pizza is of excellent quality, from the simple cheese pizza to pizzas with multiple toppings in them. The appetizers are also tasty and high quality; I enjoyed the garlic bread while waiting for my pizza. Both were outstanding, and I'd definitely come back for more.
Don't worry about the long waiting time for the pizza-Chicago style deep dish always takes awhile for all of the cheese to bake. The wait staff will be very attentive during the course of your meal.
The pizza is a good value for your money, it's very filling, so you won't leave hungry.
The bottom line: It's a great place for authentic Chicago style pizza! You won't leave hungry, and you'll enjoy a great meal while you're here. The waiting time is good, considering the location of downtown Naperville and the type of restaurant.
The people who are calling this pizza overrated have clearly been drinking some funky Kool-aid. Giordano's is the best deep dish pizza I have ever had, far superior to pretty much all other options. Gino's East is bird food compared to Giordano's, and that's the truth, Ruth.
A major feather in the Giordano's cap is that every location seems to be pretty consistent. I've probably had pizza at five different locations over the years, and have never been disappointed. This location in Naperville is no exception, as the atmosphere was good, the waitress was attentive and friendly, and the pizza was just as excellent as always. This time we had the tropic-something-or-whatever pizza, which is Canadian bacon and pineapple-- I'm pretty nuts about pineapple pizza.
It is also conveniently located in downtown Naperville, with a free public parking lot right across the street. It's nice not to have to find a parking garage, as all of the previous Giordano's locations I had hit up (aside from the ones in the far out suburbs) seemed to require me to park blocks away, or find public transportation to get there. Also, didn't have the ridiculous lines of the ones downtown. Highly recommended pizza goodness.
I've enjoyed Giordano's over the years. Another very good local pizza place. Like most other places, chances are very good you may not need to order anything else. If you do get them, appetizers I would suggest are mozzarella sticks, breaded zucchini, breaded Mushrooms. The garlic & cheesy breads are also very good. Chicken wings & strips are also solid but might be overkill unless you're in a large group. The staff are also very friendly people also. Now if you don't know this, I will tell you now. Expect the wait to be between 30-40 minutes (carry out or dine in; check their Internet site and they make it pretty clear).
If you go the route of pasta, I suggest the lasagna (very hearty especially in the fall and winter) or the fettuccini Torino (chicken in extra virgin olive oil & garlic, mixed with our own red and Alfredo sauce; you may also get it with shrimp). All the pasta dishes are fantastic so you can't go wrong in my opinion. As far as sandwiches go, I don't eat them often because I want pizza or pasta when I come here. If you do, go with the meatball or the chicken Parmesan. Now as it relates to salads, go with the antipasto salad (ham, Genoa salami, Provolone cheese, black olives, red onion, pepperocini peppers, cucumbers, & tomatoes) or the Caprese salad (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese and basil dressed with house balsamic vinaigrette- great in the summer).
Now lets get the matter at hand, the pizza. If deep dish is too much for you, then the thin crust will work perfectly for you. The crust is very good (generally not to crispy or too gooey). Regardless what direction you decide, the sauce has a very nice flavor and the cheese is topped generous. If my mood possesses me to, I'll get the special
(sausage, mushrooms, green peppers & onions) . Not sure why I'm naming the choice of topping but I will:
I prefer: Sausage, Mushroom, Green Peppers, Onions, Black Olives, Fresh Garlic.
I "get" these: *Spinach, Ground Beef, Fresh Tomatoes, Jalapeno Peppers, Green Olives.
I don't mind: Pepperoni, Canadian Bacon
I can't have: Anchovies, *Shrimp (allergic)
I don't "get" these at all: Pineapple, Broccoli (you like these, I'm not mad at you but I still don't get it).
The crust is very very good, excellent texture. Love the thick crust. If you get the large, chances are very good you're taking some home (unless you're with a large group). One thing I can say is that the flavors never over power me but yet still very rich. I have no complaints and can't recall having a bad pizza here. One of several locations in the area. If you eat it with a fork, no problem. 4 3/4 out of 5.
A tad overrated here.
I've tried the pasta, and it had very fresh tomato sauce, although it tasted very bland and spiceless to me. Â
I was disappointed in the thick crust pizza here. Â At Giordano's the deal breaker was the extra layer of dough they place on top of the toppings, like a true pie. Â The issue with this extra layer is that it doesn't cook correctly after tomato sauce is placed on top. Â My pizza crust was crispy and hot, but the top layer of dough was still stringy and spongy. Â I almost wondered if I was going to get sick from eating uncooked dough.
As for service, I have a mixed review. Â I waited at the bar for my table, and the bartender was fantastic- attentive and helpful. Â If you are waiting for a table at the bar, you are able to pre-order your deep dish so it will hit your table sooner (just be sure not to order it TOO early, or you won't have a table to eat on). Â Our table server, however, was not attentive. Â My drink went empty for over half a slice of pizza. Â
Overall, a decent place if you're in the area, but if I'm specifically out for deep dish, I'll go elsewhere.
Meh. Â It's not bad, but it's also not the gustatory orgasm that people make it out to be.
I think Chicago has a lot more to offer than Giordano's. Â The hype that surrounds this place makes it seem much better than it really is.
The stuffed deep dish is ok, but a little disappointing. Â It seems to be more about quantity than quality. Â Or maybe I'm completely mistaken and this is supposed to be a cheese eating contest.
But what surprised me was the spinach and artichoke dip. Â I really loved that. Â I expected the garbage you get at Applebees, but this was so much better. Â
So all in all, this place is ok.
Dining in is a pleasant experience, while delivery brings dour drivers. Â The pizza is good, though not a unique experience. Â And their stuffed pizza, something I don't really like because I'd rather not feel like I swallowed an anvil, is similar to a number of places. Â Their menu says Famous Stuffed Pizza, though I think they're just pointing out that stuffed pizza is, in fact, famous.
Review Source:My friend wants to order pizza. After eating Papa John's almost everyday for an entire year in high school, I was pretty much over pizza and maybe order it once a year and rarely make my own. But we both are too lazy to make anything or go out and he wants to order more crappy pizza. I finally put my food down and draw the line. We're not getting pizza! I refuse!
I go to my trusted Yelp and search for delivery in Naperville. Guess what? It's all pizza, and a few Asian places. Nothing very promising. I am about to give up and go to the grocery store to make something when I spot Giordano's and get the cravings to get stuffed.
The friend laughs at me because it's pizza. He quickly learns how wrong he is. This is not pizza, this is THE pizza. Not only is their product a bajillion times better than anything else in the area, but they've also made ordering it as easy as 1-2-3. Besides the actual cooking time taking a while, which it always does in order for them to make sure it is packed full of AT LEAST three different animals, I didn't have to wait that long between order and consumption.
Last visit: June 2008. Sunday lunch for three.
Mozzarella sticks, large stuffed 1/2 pepperoni, 1/2 sausage pizza.
The first of many Giordano's locations that I have been to, and I have to say, I still remember the service being top notch and the environment very comfortable. Great restaurant, location highly recommended.
If you've never been, get the stuffed pizzas! I always get the large stuffed pepperoni, but you are free to do half and half pizzas as well!
No wait time for seating when we went for lunch on a Saturday.
Value scale: 10/10.
Grrrr.... parking sucks around here, but it's not their fault.
Lou's is still my #1 choice of deep dish pizza. But the fam and I had a gift certificate burning a hole in our pockets so off we went.
Fast, friendly service. Their appetizer combo plate is huge and too much for just 3 people. We did our best though. It worked out perfectly because girlspawn only eats mozzarella sticks, the husband only eats fried mushrooms, and I love fried zucchini.
They ordered thin crust, I ordered the 10 inch deep dish. I was bursting at the seams after only one slice. Damn all that fried zucchini. But I had enough left over for lunch the next two days. And all the co-workers were hatin'.
My new #1 pick in terms of Chicago pizza! Â In the case of Giordano's, deep dish = deep satisfaction! Â You don't really need to add toppings, because you really can't taste them through the flavorful cheese, well-seasoned crust, and impeccable sauce. Â
They also have this GREAT chessy pizza bread that's perfect to munch on while you're waiting for your pizza.
First experience having Chicago-style pizza and boy was I impressed. Let's just say I attempted a second slice and I was close to my breaking point.
Moving to Chicago soon and I can't wait to be a regular... well of course then I'll be obese... but who cares, right? It's cold there... I'll just buy a bigger jacket.
Hey, don't judge.
I used to live in Chicago when I was little, so when I came back to visit my uncle, I wanted to relive the fond memories I had of eating Giordano's. Granted, when you're little you don't eat out much, so I don't know about the other pies in the city, but even without comparing others, the stuffed pizza here sets the standard. Last time I was here, I had the stuffed special, which comes with sausage, mushrooms, peppers, and onions, and it was delicious - thick tomatoes on top, abundant toppings, all on top of a chewy crust that had a good bite. Next time you're in Chi-Town, skip White Castle and go straight to Giordano's.
Review Source:Um, if you live in chicago you shouldn't have to read my review. Â You either love it or ya don't. Â If you're visiting - I think Giordano's is a must visit! Â That's it - Â I'm a big guy, i like to eat - and i eat a lot. Â Â Â I can only eat two slices of the stuffed pizza. Â It's amazing.
Review Source:This rating is 3 3/4 stars. Â
I'm biased about Chicago style pizza. Â My personal, hands down, favorite Chicago style pizza is still Zachary's pizza in Berkeley, CA. Â I've tried other pizza places and my taste buds still turn towards Zach. Â But, Giordano's is a pretty close second. Â That said, I still enjoyed my slice.
I tried... when in Chicago, do as the Chicagoans do. Â Eat their pizza!
I am extremely bias when it comes to pizza. I take pride in the pies that grace my taste buds. That being said, I have almost always discounted the credibility of Chicago-style pizza. My boyfriend insisted that I owed it one last try. We went to Giordano's while in Naperville, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I feel like all of my reviews incorporate some sort of Seinfeld reference, and in this case, junior mints are to Kramer as Giordano's is to my boyfriend. The portions are large, and the pies are very customizable. I ordered our pizza with fresh garlic and it was amazingly fragrant and delicious. We ordered the smallest pizza they serve and it was still too much food. It didn't break the bank, either; our meal was just over $10. I highly recommend Giordano's.
Review Source:OK, I confess. Â I used to take my dates to Giordanos on 63rd and California and go next door to buy beer to bring back and enjoy with our pie. Â Maybe at that time we were too young to drink, but that pizza - unreal! Â There are plenty of the franchised outlets around and few seemed to have that same great, rich, slightly spicy taste until the Naperville store. Â I don't know if someone hid the recipe or left something out, but Naperville cracked the code. Â My beer tastes have evolved from Old Style to Sam Adams (I think that's a step up), but the pan pizza here rocks. Â Only thing keeping the score from perfection is the unwillingness to accept phone, then dine in ordering - could be a weekend thing. Â Eat - then eat some more.
Review Source:Giordano's is a chain whose general claim to fame is a very good deep dish pizza to my understanding. Their especially well-known one is the spinach stuffed pizza.
This Naperville Giordano's recently opened (spring-summer 2006) and I have been there three times. The interior is nicely decorated, although I don't care for plastic tablecloths.. I suppose they are easier to clean. Carry out timing is prompt and often there are coupons featured in those TV guides from the Chicago Tribune.
The pizza has varied in quality every time I have eaten there although it has always been good. The crust was nice and crispy but soft on the inside one of the times, but a bit soggy the last and a bit tough at other times. The cheese is ample but becomes overwhelming after one-two slices. I can't eat more than 1 (I am a 5'2 high school girl though :P) Granted, you ARE asking for a deep dish pizza so I suppose that's expected. The spinach and tomato sauce are both yummy and not too salty.
I really do like this place and will continue going -- probably not more than once every few months though.
