    Party! Pizza Party!
What, I ask you, is better than a pizza party?

A pizza party packed to the gills with runners!
Cool athletic people, looking to connect, compete and share training tips over carbs and beer.
Just off the Kedzie brown line station with a full bar and late close time. Sweet.
Not the best pizza in Chicago, truth, but speedy, hot and available for parties with a full bar. Met a lot of cool people, the service was swift and this made it a fun party.

I know this place has been in the neighborhood for years, but the newly revamped Golden Crust is a much needed addition to Albany Park.   The inside is very well done, but it's a bit loud and has way too many TVs.  I'm most excited for the outdoor patio come spring!

They have 40 beers on tap, and an even more extensive list of beers available by the bottle.  The pizza is good,  the Caprese salad is mouthwatering, the Italian beef is divine, and the burger is just ok.  There's not much else on the dine in menu, but I'm sure more options will be added as time goes on.

I think things were a bit rough with service at the beginning, but give them some time to adjust and it will be great. My husband and I have been several times since the remodel (and order delivery occasionally) and the staff have remembered us from previous visits.  The owner, Jimmy, can also frequently be found mingling and getting to know the customers.

Golden Crust will be a neighborhood destination for years to come, and will hopefully attract people back to the area to enjoy all the other great restaurants in the hood.  Besides, where else can you find $4.50 craft beers in the city?

In my eyes, its the best pizza.

We always order from here because it's relatively close to our house and the pizza is awesome.  I like that they give you a coupon with your order and once you collect a certain amount you can redeem them for a free pizza.  We were able to get 2 free pizzas within the past year... that is how often we order from here.

I can't speak for the experience of eating in here because we always pick up or get delivery.

Also... their thick crust pizza is lacking... ALWAYS get the thin crust!

We went for a late dinner, and at first we sat there for 15 minutes and nobody came to serve us. I was looking around for a server/manager... and a guy came over to see us. He introduced himself, asked for our names, and apologized for the mix-up. He then told us about the beer specials, offered us free tastes, and told us our server would be right over.

After that somewhat rocky start, we had a fantastic meal. Our server was wonderful, and the pizza and pretzel appetizers were great. Beer is really reasonably priced.

They had a live DJ, and the music was great - not sure if it's like that all the time. The only drawback was that it was super loud... shout-at-the-person-sitting-next-to-you loud. Yes, this means I'm too old.

This place has been around for years and the last time I remember ever having them was when I was still in grade school...some couple of years ago ;)  Anyways, finally went there after work craving some thin crust pizza slices which is pretty hard to find in this neighborhood of Albany Park on a late night.  I ended up having to order a small pizza, which I did not regret.....it was super yummy.  The staff was kind of unorganized in the pick up area and the delivery drivers were all loud.  but definitely a place I'll be getting my thin crust pizza fix :)

We tried to order pizza for our Superbowl Party.  The order was placed at 5:15 pm.  Credit card was charged, but no time offered for delivery.  At 7:45 pm, we were craving pizza and wondering where the delivery guy was, so we called Golden Crust again.  We were rudely informed that they were having technical difficulties and we would not be receiving any pizza.  We had to call back to make sure that they refunded our credit card.  Huge disappointment.  They did not even offer any explanation, compensation or apology.  I will never go back.

Wings are terrible. The buffalo sauce is somewhat sweet. And the wings aren't even crispy. They're saggy. Very disappointed.

the new seating area and bar are open, and they are great! Now, i may feel this way because there is a definite lack of nice bars/restaurants with good beer selections in this area, but i have been ordering the pizza for years for carryout. To sum it up, the pizza is very good, but the restaurant is now modern and fun, so it is now top notch. The only drawback is that the football pizza is not on the restaurant menu. Hopefully you can still order it as a special request. I presume it is still on the carryout/delivery menu.

Each time I eat at Golden Crust I am more and more impressed with how friendly the staff is, how great the selection of beer is, and how delicious the food is coming out of the kitchen. Since the last time I came in, they did another re-do of their restaurant menu. Even more simplified than before, the menu is now paired down to a few appetizers, three salads, four to five sandwiches (including a burger), and the pizza. Last night, Thursday, we spent our evening sipping on $3 Craft Bottles (insanely cheap for 3Floyds and the like) and testing a few items from the appetizer portion of the menu. We ordered the Calamari, Buffalo Wings, and a small 7" pizza to split as a table. The Calamari was phenomenal. Absolutely crispy, not chewy or rubbery, clean tasting, and very hot when placed on table. The wings were also spectacular. Meaty and juicy, a great heat (but not overly powerful) from the sauce. Perfectly cooked and so addictive. The 7" pizza was also good. Cut "pie" style, we all got our own uniform slices making it easy to share as a group. The owner was very accommodating to switch a couple of TVs over to watch my college basketball game. While he didn't switch the sound over the speakers to the game, I didn't mind. It was pretty busy and I don't think there were other people as interested in watching the game as I was. Plus, they were playing a pretty hipster-ish mix of Shins, Fleet Foxes and My Morning Jacket. That's right folks--a bar/grill that has 40 craft beers on draft (even more in bottles) playing indie rock over the speakers. People might argue that a place like this belongs in Lincoln Square and not Albany Park. But as evidenced by the nearly full restaurant on a Thursday night, swarming with neighbors that were outgoing and starting up conversations about the new gym and the ongoing changes to our hood, Golden Crust is exactly what this community as been waiting for.

Had lunch here for the first time this week and loved it!  They've recently remodeled and it looks cool (especially love the light fixtures).  It looks like a cross between a hip city bar and a neighborhood bar.

We loved the chicken fingers so much that we had them as an appetizer and had them again for dessert.  DELICIOUS!  I had a small cheese pizza and a caprese salad which were equally delicious.  Everything was tasty and fresh.  I live in Oak Park and have been craving this exact lunch all week.  Wish I could go there now (and it's not even 10AM ;).

I heard about this place from a local brewery I follow, and was glad I checked it out.

They have 40 beers on tap, and for the most part the pizza was good. So why 3 stars?

First, from what I could tell, they were friends of the owner or manager... The group at the end of the bar were loud, obnoxious and constantly giggling. I came here thinking it would be a good, low-key place to watch the game, especially around 7pm, not some Lincoln Park/Wrigleyville bar.

Second, while the pizza tasted good it was extremely greasy on the bottom and made the slices flimsy. The crust on the outside of the pizza was delicious and "golden", underneath it was soggy. This was truly evident from the cardboard underneath the pizza.

While these two aspects of the night were annoying, they were totally fixable and hopefully isolated. The $4 Zombie Dust also helps.

    Mixed feelings about this place!

When the pizza arrived it was completely smashed to one side of the box! All of the cheese and toppings moved to one half and half of the pizza practically overlapped the other half! So disappointed and thought we would never order from there again! However, when tasting it, it was really good!

Should be happy but now I am torn because I was so disappointed at first! Agh!

Words can't describe how much I love Golden Crust's Pizza! My family has been loyal customers to this place for over 15yrs and the pizza quality is still great!
I have tried their chicken wings, garlic bread, and BBQ ribs and they are OK not great but good enough. The pizza is by far their main dish, it is that good. I have been to many, many, many pizza places in Chicago and none compare to Golden Crust's pizza, the cheese, the sauce, the bread, it's amazing. The deep dish is average, not like Chicago's or Giordano's. I would give it a 5 star rating but the customer service needs improvement, every time I call I get some cranky person answering the phone putting me on hold, and the delivery time is quite bad i'd say about 40 mins and I live nearby. This pizza is a MUST try for pizza fanatics, even pizza connoisseurs will enjoy it. The locale before was very dank and dark, usually empty, but now that it's getting revamped and getting an outdoor beer garden i'm sure this place will get the recognition it very well deserves!
My favorite dish: Mushroom Pizza or Hawaiian.
Also: Golden Crust is if I'm not mistaken is the only pizza joint in Chicago that has the "Stadium" sized pizza which is great for parties, festivities, or a drinking get together where you plan on getting smashed and need delicious pizza to prevent a bad hangover ;)

I ordered an extra large deluxe thick crust pizza. We received an extra large thin crust. We immediately called before eating anything to ensure we could get what we ordered during this 2nd week in a row we received the incorrect order. The manager on duty (claims his name is Jim) was the rudest person representing any establishment. He must be related to the owners because any other family owned establishment would not put up with such an employee representing them. I and 2 other of my friends called about the mix up and he immediately became the attacker. He did not let us finish explaining the issue and ended the call by telling us to stop calling including our families. Needless to say, we will no longer order on Sundays from this establishment. Thank this lackluster "Manager" by the name of "Jim".

This place is pretty mediocre to sub par. I ordered a thin crust pizza, and I have to say it was not very good. The crust was dryer than I thought it would be, and their sauce lacked any special flavor. I guess they are undergoing some renovations right now so I can excuse the exterior.

The thing that really upset me was that they wanted to charge me for two toppings for putting ground beef on the whole pizza, because one topping of beef only covers half of the pizza apparently. That is the first time I've heard that one before. I doubt I will go there again, but maybe if I'm desperate.

    Horrible, just horrible.

The driver was nice, that's the only complimentary thing I can come up with.

I normally get thin crust but I thought...golden crust...maybe it's delicious and worth the carbs...so I got the thick. I guess it was golden. Like a golden brick. Definitely NOT worth the carbs. Hard, dry, tasteless.

The ridiculous crust had soaked up pretty much whatever sauce was on the pizza, so I can't even comment on the sauce other than "not nearly enough".

The pepperoni was more like salami, no kick and wilted/mushy texture.

Green peppers tasted like they came from a can.

Italian sausage was the consistency of rubber and very little flavor.

But the cheese- the cheese made this pizza go from "sucks" to "travesty". You know a crappy quality mozzarella because when it's not flaming hot right from the oven it congeals together and turns into a chewy, plasticy mess.  This cheese made me want to weep it was so awful.

To make matters worse, I had a moment of childhood nostalgia when I saw "baked clams" on the menu, so I ordered those  too. DISGUSTING. I don't know if they are making their own or buying them but I've had better baked clams from the frozen food section of the grocery. Tasted like they mixed ritz crumbs and old canned clams together and just hoped for the best. Utterly and completely awful.

I ate one piece of the pizza, half a clam, and threw the entire mess in the trash. This morning when I brought the garbage out it was all still sitting there on top of the trash in the dumpster- not even the raccoons wanted it, apparently.

The food here was in fact so horrible I am, for the first time ever, tempted to just go in there and ask for my money back. No idea if that is even possible with delivery. Total waste of $25

Seriously, one of the best pizzas in Chicago. They put a ton of cheese and the pizza sauce is perfect with a slight sweetness, it's perfect. A lot of other places the pizza is soggy in the middle, not this one. It really does have a nice golden crust, the sausage is real sausage, not the tasteless crap you get at most places. If you like a nice cheesy pizza with good amounts of tasty sauce and real sausage and fresh veggies get the deluxe. It will run you $18.00 with a coupon and can feed 3 hungry people no problem. Jalapeno poppers was good, greek salad was good and that's all I've tried so far.

Well, it's always around when you need it? And often when you don't.

The Golden Crust is one of the few Albany Park establishments that will get spicy fries, greasy, gut-bomb pizza, and nuclear orange cheese from a pump into your body sans delivery minimum... whether you should or not.

Full menu available on Grub Hub, quick delivery, and questionable packaging of yo' goods. Pizza in a paper bag-- really?

Too hungover to cook anything, I went to Grubhub. Manzo's is closed and as much as I LOVE Armands, I was craving cheese sticks. haha. Golden Crust was close, decently priced, decent reviews and they had cheese sticks. Yay!

The delivery came about 15 minutes ealier than estimated which was nice. They don't give you pizza boxes which is kind of annoying but I know a lot of places just use the cardboard and bag so it's not THAT annoying. The delivery guy was nice and actually had a pen handy ( you wouldn't believe how many driver don't have pens, like really?)

The pizza was pretty damn good. It was super cheesy! I ordered half sausage half bacon. I would have gotten bacon on the whole thing but it was five dollars. That's a little steeper than a lot of places i've seen so I did half and half for a total of five extra dollars. The sausage was reallly good. The bacon wasn't bad they just were skimpy as hell with it. They sell cans of pop for less than a dollar which is nice and they have Eli's cheesecake for cheaper than other pizza places in the area do. I think i've found my new pizza place (still I was SO close to getting 20 coupons at Manzo's and then they shut down! ) I'll be saving my 20 coupons for Golden Crust to get that free pizza for sure!

I was very happy when my order came before the est time I was given somethings that concern me
    1. was not given a real receipts I signed for my order on the back of a sheet of paper
    2. Delivery guy called when he couldn't charge my tip cause of how the order was places.
Other thing to know Greek salad is not a lettuce salad its just tomatoes and cucumbers which was good just not what I was looking for.
Over all it was good I am a little unhappy

Golden Crust does indeed have golden crust!

A few friends and I got pizza delivered this past Saturday. The result: speedy delivery, tasty pizza, excellent price! I think we paid a total of $22 bucks for a stadium-sized thin-crust sausage pizza capable of feeding 5, maybe 6, people.

In terms of the pizza, the thin crust is actually kind of medium crust and one friend thought the sauce was a little sweeter than she likes it.  Still, the pizza was great and the price can't be beat.

This place is in the slow process of remodeling...so to me..it was like finding a hidden treasure.

I walked in here and met Jimmy the owner...for a small place it seemed to me a big show....I smelled the sweet smells of cheese and sausage and immediately the owner went into telling me about his pizza.. the busniess, and how he thinks customer service should be.

Jimmy had tickets (as I am sure you may have seen them with Rosatis) keep so many and turn them in for a pizza....he has many versions of this kinda of ticket for over 20 years.....it reminded me of my pops old hot dog place...save 20 busniess cards and gvet a free hot dog.

To him, customer service is tantamount, and when I got a slice of pizza he let me try it and it was pi ping hot, delicious, and tasty even as it was hot going down.  For something that has been around for a long time.. they are doing something right.

I do want to go back there and take a pic of the various cards he has over the times the place has been open...and maybe reminisce of my youth alittle.

Once in a while I get a terrific craving for fried chicken, that I usually sate by going to Popeye's.  This time I was working on a project that kept me closer to the home range, so I looked up close places that served good fried chicken.   I called Golden Crust based on Grubhub's posted times and they weren't open yet so called them later, when I was really hungry.
I ordered the 12 piece bucket of chicken for 13.80 which with tax winds up being 14.98 - and it was obnoxiously huge.  This is enough to eat out of for days, but since I'm such a craver it won't last past tomorrow's lunch.
It comes with a TON of fries, but they put the ketchup packets in with the fries so when you go to pick them up it's like holding lava wrapped in plastic.  Which is good!  You want your food hot.

Just one thing - the chicken doesn't come in a bucket, and it's seasoned very mildly.  I don't really care but just wanted to mention it for people who might be looking for something a basic franchise might be offering.  I like to support the little companies.

As far as decor is concerned, the more places that look like this in the world, the better.  If they remodel they'll really lose something about its charm.  Plus it would be a waste of money - it's a little carryout joint.

I phone ordered and then came in.  I waited for my food with the sound of a television and the sounds of the workers in the background.  I worked for years in a pizza place so these sounds are sometimes comforting to me.  They wrapped the food neatly and securely and could not have been more polite.

Ive been ordering from this place forever, their pizza is outstanding, make sure you order extra cheese and sauce, to deliver that full power italian flavor, its worth the extra $5

The football pizza is kick ass..will feed about 10 people, or 5 voraciously hungry people

The phone people are usually rude though, they sound like operators that have been working a 98 hour shift, and just sick and tired of dealing with people

But in the end, Im eating the food, not the workers

Awesome food, great prices, feeds a lot of people, lame phone operators..I can live with that

This place has some tasty tasty pizza.  When you get it for delivery it comes in a paper bag (I know, that's totally old skool) but its so good.  The cheese is bubbly with delicious brown (but not burned) goodness, the crust is thin, but not so thin that its like eating a cracker.  The toppings are ample and fresh.  Also, the delivery took less time than stated which was a total bonus.

I haven't been yelping for a long time, but this pizza gets five stars from me.  And I am very picky when it comes to my pizza...

Having forgotten that I had ever ordered from here, I looked at the menu and decided to give it a shot again. The lady took my order down and let me know the total and said the eats would be there in the hour. The eats came in half an hour, so I was more than happy since it's dinnertime right now.

I ordered the same thing I ordered as last time and I have to say that the wings are still bland as hell and the bleu cheese is more like bleu cheese sauce.  The burger is tasting great and the fries are curly and tasty. Still no napkins, but I should have remembered from last time. At least this time they delivered the food much quicker and it tastes great (other than wings).

The Pizza here is just ok.

They skimp on ingredients, which, if you're a vegetarian like me, with a meat eating SO, could be a good thing since I'll never get meat on MY side of the pizza.  But, for a large pizza with green olives on half, there were probably 11 green olive slices, and that's just not cool.

I used to order from this place years ago for delivery, forgot about it, and we were walking by and decided to dine in.

I gave them an extra star since that dine-in experience was the "kick in the ass we needed" moment.  We recently moved into a house with a REALLY bad dining room chandelier, which we knew we'd eventually replace, it just wasn't on our top ten project list.  Well, Golden Crust has the same chandeliers, which promptly made us run out to home depot after eating the meal, and we replaced the horrible "Applebee's" looking chandelier with a nice one.

That said, do get take-out or delivery.  The dining room is nothing to look at.

Here's the trick folks. You have to order your pizza well done with extra sauce. At least that's what the hubby tells me. He's the pizza guru in this house. I don't really like pizza, but for pizzza it was pretty good.

The fried chicken is okay but nothing to write home about.

They're pretty fast and their prices aren't too bad, so they're ok in my book.

I remember the time way back in my youth when a pizza was a pizza. They were all delicious and all on top of my list. Domino's and Little Caesar's were just as good as all of the others. I have to say that my tastes have changed substantially. Although I still worship all the property that Little Caesar's owns or leases. Anyway, I am digressing!

There are a lot of dynamics affecting the creation of a pizza, it is nearly an art form. There are so many ways to make a crust and so many recipes for sauces it going to be difficult to compile them all, There is one trend that I notice quite a bit, that a thin crust, is a wafer thin crust. Sorry pizza joints but if you try to sell me a wafer thin crust, it is a for sure deal breaker.

The crust on my thin crust pizza was perfectly how I like it. It was cooked perfectly and it was the perfect thickness to support the cheese and adequate amount of toppings. If their sauce would have been just a bit more flavorful, I would have given this place the coveted "Dave's 5* review" It was still a kick ass pizza and I will be putting this on my top list of pizza places.

There is one more thing that I wanted to add. We ordered our delivery on a very snowy, crappy evening. We were expecting a very long wait, so when they quoted us 1.25 - 1.5 hours, we were not surprised in the least. What did surprise us was that we received our pizza in .9166667... of an hour. (That is 55 minutes to the lay person). Once again exceeding our expectations.

If I had written this review a few months ago, it would have been a good 'un, but I had a rather unsatisfying experience that I now have to share.

So my roommate and I had a craving for pizza. I call up and order a medium, and have a coupon in my menu declaring that yes, even the medium, with this coupon, gets a free soda. I mention it on the phone, wait the 30 minutes and trek on over in the freezing nighttime cold.

Luckily it's only a few blocks and I walk in, wait at the counter. And wait. And wait. The guy's (who I think might be the owner, he's always there) watching High Fidelity on cable and not in a hurry to greet me. He comes to the counter, acknowledges me with a huff, tells me my total and proceeds the transaction. I hand him my debit card.

    "I need ID."

"Crap! I'm sorry I only have my debit card and CTA card in my pocket. I've been here tons before though!"

"I can't give you this without seeing your ID."

It doesn't even say "See ID" or anything of the sort on my card, by the way. And last I checked, it's in no way a law.

Slightly annoyed, I head home and walk back for my lukewarm pizza. I give him my card and ID. He seriously scoped it for 30 seconds before handing it back, as if a real identity thief would splurge on spinach pizza.

He hands me the pizza and I ask about my soda.

"That's for large pizzas only. You don't qualify."

"But the coupon in my menu said I did, for medium 1 toppings."

    "You're wrong."

I didn't want to argue. I wanted to just go home and eat my god damned pizza.

My roommate heckled me on the way home: "Why didn't you tell him to check the menu?!"

I said that maybe I was wrong and I didn't want to get in a fight over it. I checked it when I got home. I was right. He was just being a dick. And I don't care if John Cusack's portrayal of love, loss and rock 'n roll is what bummed him out that night.

So thanks guy, I used to come there twice a month or so, and I'm no longer interested in your goods/services.

I was looking for a non-chain pizza place around the neighborhood and remembered driving past this restaurant a while back.  We ordered a large thin crust pizza with bacon, garlic, jalapeno, and pineapple.  Don't be freaked out, it's actually a good combination.  Also, it's our test to see if this place was any good, since not every pizza joint carries all those ingredients.  Quick note: make sure to order your pizzas well done for delivery, since they stay nice and crispy that way.

It took about 45 minutes to deliver.  The large pizza also came with a free liter of RC Cola (just remind them when you order) which is always a good thing.  Our pizza was delicious, with a nice chewy crust with crispy edges, not too much sauce, and a generous amount of cheese.  They even cut the pizza into squares, a.k.a the "party cut", which is very Chicago.  I would have preferred more toppings, but we were happy with the pizza overall.  It was even better the next day toasted in the oven.

They also have other items on their menu, like appetizers, subs, and fried chicken (which was recommended in a couple reviews).  I'll definitely order from them again, perhaps to try their sausage and homemade hot giardiniera pizza.  I'll update accordingly.

I've ordered from this place over 50 times.  it is so freaking good.  order a "large thin crust pie cut extra cheese pizza" (thin crust just means not deep dish) and prepare to be knocked out of your socks!  Bonus: large pizza comes with free RC cola.

Man i'm getting hungry just writing this.  FYI they always say delivery will take about an hour so plan ahead for awesomeness.

The thin crust is the only way to go at Golden Crust. I would strongly advise against buying a slice out of the pizza "rotor" unless you have diamonds embedded into your teeth or your sporting a bang'in grill. The thin pizza is a bit greasy, but in a good way i suppose. the other item that's enjoyable is the baked pasta with meatballs. that's all i've ever had there. so, if you looking for more depth, look beyond this review.

if the gal is behind the counter, your experience will be quite friendly (she's very nice). if the fat guy is there, you mind as well leave. he's down right rude and i typically will just turn around and head for the door. mind you, i typically will do delivery or pick-up -- but if he answers the phone, you'll know...

the drivers -- all good dudes.

How's the pizza?  I'll never know.  I'm too busy eating the BEST fried chicken in Chicago.

For 7.95, you get 4 big pieces of Fried Chicken and we're not talkin' wussy skin, this skin is thick.  How thick?  You can put your leftovers (and you'll have leftovers) in the fridge and they'll still be crunchy when you take them out.  It also comes with slaw, bread and a baked potato.  You can easily get two meals out of the whole thing.

That sounds like an advertisement but I swear I don't work for the place, some food just makes you react in that way.

Golden Crust rocks.  They're right down the street from me, so they're convenient when I'm too lazy to cook.  I've ordered the big stadium pizza for parties, and it's so good that when people come over - they request it!

When it's just me, I get the calzone, which is huge and usually winds up as leftovers the next day.  I've also dined in and can recommend the rest of their menu.  Quality, affordable eats from a friendly, low-key neighborhood joint.

Our Family has been ordering from here for Years! It's pretty cool when you call and they ask If we want the usual, Extra large thick crust deluxe! This is definitely our pizza place for the games. I just recently had their Mediterranean Pizza and loved it.  Don't forget to hang on to that coupon you get with every order. 20 of them will get you a free large one topping pizza.
Only complaint I have is that our usual (XL stadium size pizza) seems to be getting smaller and smaller every time we order.
