Delicious libations, tasty food. What else do you want?
Everyone in my group ordered a burger, of course. They come on a slightly sweet, light bun that doesn't overpower the burger. We also shared the duck fat fries, which were... wow. I drank a skinny ass with my meal, so that negates all the calories, right? (Even if you don't like moscow mules, you might try the skinny ass. It's not as ginger-y.)
Great beer selection. Good service and a nice facility.
The burger was good but a bit overcooked. It did arrive hot. The fries might be better for you - mine arrived lukewarm and most were maybe an inch long.
Based on the other reviews it sounds like what you get from the kitchen can range from mediocre to great. So your experience will depend on who's in the kitchen that day.
I normally reserve 5-star reviews for places that are truly my favorite, and while HTB is a little out of my neighborhood and I don't go there often, I just couldn't find a reason to knock a star off.
Every time I have been there it has been an exceptional experience. Between their ample indoor space and excellent patio, good food, good beer, and nice people, I've always had a geat time. I think the real stand-out feature of HTB for me is their events and community participation. They are constantly hosting something, and have really become a gathering place for all types.
Also - their food is so much better than you would expect for "bar food". The first time I saw their menu, I thought it featured pretty standard bar food options, but after eating there I can say it is much better than standard fare. I was being "boring" the other night and went for their chopped salad, and ate every single piece of it! Probably one of the best salads I've had in a while.
Any review of HTB would be remiss to overlook their beer program. Between the exceptional tap selection and being home-base for groups like Crafty Ladies, they really cover all the bases in the craft beer (and spirits!) community.
What a great addition to the neighborhood.
Great selection of beers, plenty of TVs for watching sports and the yummiest burger in the neighborhood.
While the fries taste amazing the size can be inconsistent. On my last visit every fry was under an inch. It was like eating a basket of crumbs.
My husband and I had been told to try this restaurant and we were fairly impressed. We went the Highland Tap & Burger February 20 Â and ordered our lunch to go. I ordered the Tap Burger, which was fairly good. It was cooked to order, my only complaint on the burger is that there was supposed to be some pulled pork with their BBQ sauce on it, and for the most of the burger I did not taste the BBQ sauce and for all of the burger I did not taste the pulled pork. I will admit, however, there was the pulled pork on the burger I just was unable to taste it due to there not being very much on it. Once I ate the last quarter of the burger(this is where all the BBQ sauce was) it was delicious. My husband ordered the bacon Bison burger and was very impressed with it, no complaints whatsoever! The fries that accompanied both our burgers, though, we're rather bland and definateyly needed a condiment in order to finish them. As a whole we enjoyed it and will more than likely return!
Review Source:One of my dance team members  brought me here for lunch.  Not a great place if your watchin calories. We decided to try a few things. First we order the hummus plate and two wheat beers with a hit of orange. I went for the tap cheeseburger medium cooked. Great choice well cooked and  really good beer.  The hummus was really good had a nice creamy texture to it.  The atmosphere was casual and our waiter was super friendly.  We shared the brownie for dessert and felt like fat pigs.  Now we have to burn off like 3000 calories.
Review Source:Good.
I'm not a resident of Denver, but while in town I googled "best burger Denver", and Highland Tap and Burger was #1 on the first list that came up. Â So I stopped by.
I got the Tap Burger, and it was solid. Â
BUT - here's the thing about burgers (and Park Burger doesn't seem to realize this either) - a burger is all about the patty. Â The patty is the core of the burger, the essence of it. Â You can pile eggs and bacon and all kinds of crazy toppings onto it, but if the patty is mediocre it will show. Â
And the patty of the burger I had was pretty mediocre.
This place is fantastic! By far my favorite spot in LoHi. The smoked wings are the best I've had and I would rate the burger highly as well. They have a great selection of beers on tap (including a fantastic hefeweizen brewed just around the corner at Prost) and surprisingly generous happy hour specials. The staff are all professional and friendly, and they make every trip to HTB a pleasant one.
Review Source:Best burger and fries in Denver! Tried different items on their menu and everything has always been delicious. I love the mushroom burger and my bf always get the htb with the fried egg on it. The fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I would give this place a 5, but the only complaint I have here is the service. I wished the servers were nicer and look like they actually enjoy working here.
Review Source:My husband and I were looking for a great burger place so of course we checked YELP and found this lovely place. Â Went on a Sunday to watch one of the Wild Card games. Â We both ordered burgers which were delicious but a little chincy on the meat, it didn't even cover the bread, which I hate by the way. I feel if you pay $9 for a piece of meat it outta cover the bread!!! RIGHT...
We also sat in the wrong spot. Â FYI, if you eat here on Sunday's and you want to watch some ball you better sit with the bar section because the kids will overwhelm you in the dining section. Great family restaurant I suspect but we came for the bar atmosphere. Know not to come on Sunday's anymore.
Hello Luva!
Shroom Luva, that is. Why yes, this IS the best burger I have consumed in many a fortnight. Don't forget the fries. (And you won't...those greasy sticks will stay with you for hours- possibly days- after you've gobbled the last one.)
Back to my shroomy delight. Let's start with the patty, shall we? This beef- the glorious beef- had this marvelous smoky taste. I don't know how the burger makers do it, but it's tasty. Next, the toppings. The mushrooms and cheese just oozing out made it such a glorious mess. A glorious delicious mess that made me want to lick my fingers and go back for more. Truly the only drawback was the bun. They offered gluten free ($1.50 +) and GF buns are not known for their yumminess, however, the kitchen did their best and grilled it too- definitely helping. Yummy burger.
Hubs decided that he wanted to try the Bison burger next and I allowed this, and also agreed that he could get a regular bun. But that bun wasn't great either- and they didn't grill it like the last one. But the meat was still smoky and delightful. Though I still give the edge to the Shroom Luva. Definitely.
We came in on a Sunday for the Bronco game and yes, the crowd was horrendous. We had to wait. We were forced to drink at the bar. I know. Fortunately the lovely beer list kept us entertained. It's a fab selection...with even 3 choices for those that go gluten free! I stuck with the hard cider but perhaps next time I will give one of the others a shot.
Oh how I wish these Taps were around the corner in my 'hood. Very yummy. So glad we finally made it.
When I was living up in the Highlands area there was no better place to get a burger and a beer than the HTB! In fact, the namesake burger is one of the best burgers that I have eaten. Root Beer pulled pork, onion rings and chedder all on a burger!?! Say what?!?!?! The menu is full of unique burger choices as well as other alternatives like sandwiches, salads and appetizers. The places is normally very busy but it is very roomy and in the evening they have a huge firepit going. Careful though, I've seen jackets melt!!!
Review Source:I heard great things about this place so I decided to check it out. It was meh... I was debating whether I should give it two or three stars, but decided there were too many things wrong to give it 3.
To start off, we arrived at about 7:30pm. The hostess told us that the dining room was closed and that we'd have to sit in the bar. Closed at 7:30pm? On a weekend? Whatever...
We ordered the hummus plate to start off. The hummus was good, but they hardly served any pita bread with it. We went through the pita in no time and still had a plate full of hummus. I asked for more pita bread and they charged extra for it. Whatever...
We ordered burgers all around. It seemed like a reallllly long wait for burgers (~40 minutes from the time we ordered). I ordered a burger cooked medium with candied bacon and veggies. When we got our food, I noticed they left out the veggies. I ate half way through the burger without realizing that they cooked it very well done (the lights were dimmed way low). The candied bacon was almost too sweet. (I know, I ordered candy bacon and it was supposed to be a little sweet. But it was so sweet it tasted like a bacon flavored jolly rancher.) They served it with pickles that were also overly sweetened. The fries also tasted sweet. I wondered if someone in the kitchen was using sugar instead of salt. Everything was too sweet and it really didn't taste good.
I asked for a side of ranch and they charged for it. I've never seen a restaurant charge for ranch. They charged extra for everything they possibly could. Whatever...
I don't think I'll be going here again. With Amato's down the street with a much more fun atmosphere, better food and a dining room that doesn't close at 7:30, it's pretty much a no brainer.
Okay. I gotta say, I was super amped to head here after I had been once before and had a great experience, but my second was just meh. The difference? I went for lunch the second time.
When I went the first time, I was super excited for two reasons: There were a TON of lesbians there. Like, I just darted my eyes around because I was pretty sure there was a secret gay gal gathering and they forgot my invitation. They were playing college softball on the big screens and things were awesome. My girlfriend and I ordered a basket of chips, and she got the root beer pulled pork while I opted for the fish and chips sandwich. They both rocked. Things were awesome.
This second time, a week or so ago, was not so good. The lunch menu was way more sparse than the dinner, so the fish and chips was out of the question. In fact, as a vegetarian (I sometimes, soooometimes eat fish, hence the fish and chips sammie) my two options were salad and veggie burger. Eh. We both got veggie burgers and decided to get onion rings beforehand because we were hungry. They came out looking incredible, but then we bit into them...and....they had zero flavor. I'm talking a taste similar to what I'd imagine fried water to be. There was absolutely no seasoning in the batter or on the onions themselves. Big letdown. We each had one and called it a day (I found it odd that the server didn't ask us if we didn't like them, since they were all still in the basket when the table was cleared...)
The veggie burgers were all right. My girlfriend loved hers, I thought mine was just all right. I've had better, but I've also definitely had worse.
Overall, it was kind of a bummer experience. Also, two incredibly loud, drunk business tables were behind us, so that kind of crapped on the fun. Oh well. I'm sure we'll be back, because the restaurant itself is super cute.
The burger was not great. It was just okay. The meat was bland (no seasoning). I ordered the mushroom lovers and it just had marinated button mushrooms. When paying almost $10 for a burger, I would expect it to taste amazing and be just better than standard.
The restaurant was really loud. The server did not know what beers were on tap, or if there was a special going on.
Overall disappointed, I will not be returning.
Disappointed in our experience. Everyone at our table either ordered burgers or the chicken sandwich (which was advertised as pulled chicken and ended up being diced) and not one of our orders was right. Not to mention the black hair in my friend's sandwich she discovered at the end when it was too late to turn back. I will say that I liked their homemade pickles, but I've never met a pickle I wouldn't eat so that's not saying much.
EDIT: I received an email from one of the owners, Juan, apologizing for my experience and offering me dinner on the house to try out Highland Tap again. If I lived in Denver, I would take them up on the offer. Very cool to have him reach out and kudos to Highland Tap for using Yelp to get genuine feedback.
I had hoped to have a good night, a gathering of friends at HTaB. I had never been here, but it always seemed like a popular spot in the Highlands. Here's how it went wrong.
1. The annoying waitress who reached in front of a dining companion and poked my shoulder to get attention.
2. The burger that wasn't medium well with the bonus fried egg (didn't ask for it, but they didn't charge me), the heavily battered onion rings (let's call them batter rings), and the burnt tasting fries.
3. They screwed up my brother's order, somehow adding shrimp to a shrimpless salad. They did replace it in about 10 minutes.
4. We were asked to be done by 830 for a band. If that was the case, why did it take so long to get our bills? Then once we got our bills and set the money down, why did it take so long to collect the money? Then why did it take so long to process that money? I probably would have been more patient if the slow service wasn't making me late for my W&G booking.
They do have a killer beer selection. I didn't partake, but after all this I did order a bitter forward cocktail at W&G. That made up for this.
Your not in Kansas anymore! Or are you!?
My wife and I were recommended to this place as we were taking a tour of the Sports Authority Field (Denver Broncos) earlier that morning. We wanted to get a taste of where the locals go. Sure enough, Saturday afternoon college football game day they were all here. Place was packed full of 90% Kansas State Fans. They were all super friendly and even had a brief conversation with a retired K State Alum, which was comforting as we felt like the only Non K State Fans.
Bartender friendly and makes drinks quick.
As we walked in a gentlemen by the name of Juan greeted us and mentioned they have no space for 2 at this time, however soon as the game is over things will clear up. Only 2 mins to go in the game didn't take too long (20 mins tops) Juan looked like an average Joe walking down the street,.Very approachable and sounded like a humble person. He was even helping the bus boys clean tables and take orders from the servers. :) Â
if you are into beer hoppy beers Warrior Fresh IPA or any of the Odells.
Food-.The Rocky Mtn. - Seasoned Colorado  ground lamb sandwich.  It was good if I only had sweet potato fries to go along with that, it would have been best. combo.
As a craft beer focused bar in a huge craft beer metro like Denver, this place isn't quite up to par. Â Sure it beats a typical bar, but they ought to be judged in the niche that they claim to be in. Â Had a few beers taste "off" and couldn't determine if it was glassware or tap lines. Â I witnessed neighboring table return an empty glass that came with his bottle because the glass was littered with smears and smudges when he held it up to the light (even I could see this). Â And then there's the $10 Ayinger Octoberfest. Â Really?
Hostess staff seemed a bit clueless on my visits as far as seating goes and I overheard the servers complaining to each other about it. Â Didn't need to hear that because I'm already feeling down on the place for the above mentioned factors. Â Last thing that got under my skin - even in the afternoon hours this place was very, very loud with music + voices.
On the good side the fried zucchini appetizer was delicious. Â Great breading and very, very rich. Â Veggie burger alright. Â Will come back for the zucchini app for sure.
This was my second time at Highland Tap & Burger and I sat at the bar while watching college football and the baseball playoffs. GREAT experience! The bartenders provided top-notch customer service and introduced themselves and then always addressed me by name (which wasn't needed, but cool nonetheless). They were informed about the awesome selection of beers and were more than happy to answer my questions. I had the lamb burger with fries and both were tasty (along with a number of their craft beers).
Overall, a great customer experience, a wide variety of beers, and a sweet place to watch sports. Plus, there is a huge dining room and a nice patio out front if you need a little more room to breathe. Highly recommend this place!
Great beer selection. Unfortunately for me, I ordered the lamb burger and was expecting something a little better. Because I was feeling frisky, I ordered the lamb. When it came out, the burger was small, the meat was not flavorful, and I had to pay extra (compared to the standard beef burgers). My friends said the beef burgers were "ok", but again, nothing special.
I'd come back for the beer, but I won't be ordering food next time.
Just a fantastic little restaurant with a surprisingly fantastic draft selection!
This place seriously knows how to handle a large party. I really, really appreciate that, as I tend to travel with quite an entourage ;) Twice now we have descended upon HTB with a huge group and not only was everyone satisfied with the fantastic beer selection (something for everyone) and the food, but our servers were able to keep everyone's separate checks straight, while making sure we always had libations. This is quite a feat.
So, why only 4 stars? Well, the pulled chicken sliders sounded great, but the chicken was cold, like refrigerator cold. Weird and not very tasty. Will definitely have to order a burger next time.
We will most definitely be back for more crazy happy hour good times!
Got off the plane, checked into hotel, looking (for anything) to eat. Â Concierge suggested this place. Thought I would give it a try since fast food closes at 10 and I really didn't want a whole pizza delivered to my room. A sports bar sounded just right considering my original plan was fast food in my room.
I has a grilled cheese and tomato soup with the house beer. The house beer reminded me of a fat tire. The tomato soup was wonderful! I usually don't like tomato soup, but my options were limited b/c they only had the late night menu available. The soup had a great texture that made me think that it was made from scratch. The grilled cheese was crunchy but soft inside. Perfect for this weary traveler.
Fyi -The waitress did ask if I walked there and told me she usually tells females to be careful walking at night in the neighborhood.
I often forget about the Highlands area and all the great little restaurants. This is one of them. Â My brother has been here a couple of times and recommended it for lunch. He got there before I did and was able to get a table on the patio. Our table faced the street, good place to people watch. Â It seemed busy that Sunday, I think they were still serving brunch.
They have a decent beer selection and although the menu doesn't seem to have a ton of selections on it, everything looked yummy. Our server was great. Â When I sat down, she came right over and took my drink order and was back in about 5 minutes to get our food order. Â We split the mushroom burger and the chimichurri burger. One of them (I think it was the mushroom burger) had a truffle aoili sauce on it. Man that was good! Â Both the burgers were cooked perfectly and we didn't have to wait forever to get our food. Especially since it was busy. Â A huge plus in my opinion.
I will definitely come back and check out what else they have on their menu.
I like this place a lot, but as a human, Im going to point out its flaws.
--Overrated beer selection. It rarely changes and they rarely have any guest or rare beers.
-THE SIGN aka Ikea jr. Please, this isnt the midwest. The sign is pretty trashy and takes away from the charm of the hood'. By now, everyone knows who you are, lets take down the sign and give it back to Hayes, KS.
We made our way to tap and burger on a Friday evening around 6, just in time for the end of happy hour. We were first impressed by the wide selection of local beer, they had at least 20 different kinds on tap. We ordered the artichoke from the happy hour menu - it was delicious!
We all opted for burgers, my friend and I both got the schroom burger and the fiancé got a bacon cheeseburger, all were delicious, though the garlic aloli that was the selling point on the schroom was a little space. Additionally they forgot a few modifications on our orders do we had to wait for a few things.
We were there for about 3 hours and the place was packed by the time we left, the only downside was that our waitress became pretty much non existent toward the end of the evening, and paying took forever. Bummer way to end an over all great experience!
I gotta admit, their "Tap Burger" (with fried egg) changed my life, and just might be the best burger I've ever had. High praise.
Standout burgers are all about the details, and they got the details right: Bun was perfectly selected and toasted... burger was seasoned and cooked just right... the combination of the burger, the egg, the onion ring, the cheese, and their amazing pulled pork, everything came together in an incredible package. Â Almost unintentionally did my best When-Harry-Met-Sally impression after every bite.
And the fries--which at first glance seemed undercooked and soggy--turned out to be quite tasty too.
On a previous visit we just had appetizers and the food was similarly good--Finally their craft beer selection is second only perhaps to Falling Rock (of which I'm not a fan due to their high prices and horrible service) and Oskar Blues L&S (which  is way up in Longtucky).
So why only three stars? We've had... less than perfect service the couple times we've been there. But seems like they're trying. And on a Friday or Saturday "see and be seen" night in the Highlands, the place is excruciatingly loud and crowded.
Very disappointed on my first visit. The draft beer selection leaves a lot to be desired for a tap house. I was expecting a much wider variety of breweries and beers.
The service was completely abysmal. They acted like they were slammed but in all reality, they weren't. Understaffed, maybe, but not busy. The mac n' cheese was the highlight of the meal and it was only about a B.
The burgers were small and had very little flavor not to mention they were undercooked. Cold fries are never a good thing.
The food overall gets a C- and that's being generous. You can get better burgers from a food truck than you can at this burger joint.
I may return at some point because I've heard some good things, but I think this place is getting by strictly on location.
We came here during their brunch time, which offers a very limited menu. This being the first time we came here, we weren't impressed. My 'shroom burger was good, but it seems like I ran out of meat before finishing the bun. The fries were okay, but they have that overcooked look to them. The ranch was good, but it was way too runny. I didn't like their spicy pickles and the juice from them tainted my fries. My husband was not impressed with his breakfast burger.
Our server was friendly and she did a nice job. Overall, I think the food was too expensive for what you get, so I don't think we'll be coming back any time soon.
True to my "three strikes and you're out policy," I headed back to Highland Tap & Burger for a third time. Â It was a full count with a decision in the balance...
The owner, Juan, graciously met us and showed us around so we can get an idea of what HTB had to offer. Â The dining and bar area are quite large and they certainly have the room to pack in a lot of people. Â The back of the house, however, is surprisingly small compared to the front. Â Yet they still manage to put out great, hand crafted food. Â We peeked in the food storage area where, despite my best efforts, I didn't see any pre-made, frozen items being stored. Â Everything that HTB makes is fresh and hand made, and you can definitely tell when you taste it. Â Out back HTB has a smoker that's fired with Stranahan's whiskey barrels (another Colorado favorite) where they slow cook their pulled pork.
Juan also explained that since their opening about two years ago they've experienced very little turnover with the staff, and despite a few bumps along the way, it's something that has helped smooth out the service.
After taking a look around we headed back to our table to enjoy our meal. Â Our waitress handed us a drink menu and then proceeded to explain what seasonal taps they had available that weren't listed. Â She was very knowledgeable when it came to the beers, which is good since there's plenty to choose from HTB's draft and bottle list. Â
We started out with the friend zucchini which is lightly breaded yet crispy and is served with a house made whole grain ale mustard aioli. Â The zucchini was good, however I kinda wished it was served with a different sauce. Â I don't think the mustard aioli jives too well with it and found myself eating them sans sauce.
For the main course I had the TAP Burger which is topped with an onion ring, root beer pulled pork, and American and cheddar cheeses (you can also add a fried egg if you're really feeling gluttonous). Â Thankfully it comes out with a steak knife because this is one behemoth of a burger, certainly not for the faint of heart or meek stomach. Â The combination between buttery bun, juicy burger, gooey cheese, melt-in-your-mouth pork, and crispy/crunchy onion ring is definitely worth the caloric destruction it imposes. Â The most ardent of dieter would have a hard time resisting this one. Â Despite telling myself earlier that I'd take it easy, I couldn't help snarfin' this burger down and ultimately sending myself on a one-way direct flight to Food Coma-ville.
My main complaint with HTB in the past had been the service, and I'm happy to say that it was greatly improved this time around. Â Out waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable when it came to the drink list and dishes on the menu. Â It also seemed like everyone around us were routinely checked on to make sure they had everything they needed. Â There wasn't a point in the evening when we found ourselves searching for our waitress as she was always nearby and easy to flag down.
So with the game on the line, the pitch was delivered and HTB knocked it out the park, a walk-off homer. Â Next time you're in the area, stop by to grab a pint and whatever you do don't miss out on the burgers. Â Your taste buds won't be disappointed.
I have been here for brunch 3 times now. Â Simple menu, but good food. Â The breakfast sandwich is all kinds of greasy goodness. Â Bacon, cheese, maybe some egg hidden under all of that on a golden croissant.
The bloody Mary bar is solid, use the spicy mix, horseradish, and celery salt as a base.
AlI you need to know is TAP BURGER! Â I mean pulled pork and onion rings on an awesome burger. Â I'm drooling just typing this. Â Place is awesome: Â Nice bar with good beer selection. Â Bartenders are super cool and friendly. Â I'll be back very very soon!
Recently had the Pulled Pork Sandwich! Â I inhaled it so I will have to get back to you on how it tasted! Â (Fantastic)
I'm going to start this review with the meat and potatoes, and then after the stuff that matters, I'm going to get a little nitpicky.
First of all, this is a great place to go on a sunny afternoon or early evening. Â The outdoor seating is amazing and even if you can't get outside, there are lots of window seats to choose from. Â We stopped by on a whim riding home from city park. Â The beer selection was awesome and the burgers were juicy and tender and reasonably priced. Â The service was a bit slow, but not ridiculously so, especially considering how busy it was on a Saturday evening.
Now to pick some nits. Â Their custom burger lets you choose up to 3 "premium" toppings free of charge and then has a list of "ultra-premium" toppings for $1 or $2 extra. Â Really? Â Premium and Ultra-Premium? Â And shredded iceberg lettuce is premium? Â When has iceberg lettuce been premium anything? Â This doesn't affect the rating at all, I just think it makes the restaurant look a bit foolish.
Pretty poor service. Â Great people watching and a great location. Â Wonderful patio that could use a little more shade on a hot day. Â This Sat. they had live music which was nice, you couldn't hear the lyrics, but it was low enough in volume that you could still have a conversation.
WTF with charging for extra pickles? Â WTF that a simple omelet was swimming in cooking oil.
Over priced for the quality of the food.
