Like Chicago deep dish or bar style pizza? Â Don't go here. Â
Like New York pizza? Â This is the place.
Best NY Style we have found in Chicago. Â The crust is what you would expect--soft and foldable but a little sweet. Â Had half pepperoni and half sausage with mushrooms. Â Toppings were not skimpy. Â Really liked the pepperoni and mushrooms. Â The sausage needed more zip. Â Sauce was good. Â Overall a good NY pizza. Â Best we have found in the Chicago area. Â
The location is on the corner of Lincoln and Fullerton. Â Parking is off Fullerton while the address is on Lincoln. Â Be advised that they do not take credit cards. Â (I tried to give them my Blue Cross/Blue Shield card, but they didn't see the humor).
White pizza and beignets! White pizza and beignets! Can't get enough white pizza and beignets!
Jimmy's is without a doubt the best New York style pizza in the city. Stop in and have them heat you up a slice and order a side of the aforementioned beignets while you're at it. Â Perfect for delivery too, just give your slice a quick trip in the toaster oven. Â Save the beignets for breakfast. Â A quick 15-20 second microwave makes them almost as good as new.
This place is legit! 2 slices, an order of garlic knots, and an order of beignets for $17! This is my new go to pizza joint! The crust is perfect and the knots were fresh and good! The beignets are so good. I've had beignets at cafe du monde in New Orleans, and I like these better, yeah I said it! These beignets are fluffy and perfect :) Oh and the service was fast and friendly!
Review Source:So far, this is the best NY style pizza I've had in Chicago.
THAT SAID-
Minus one star for skimpy amount of basil. Come on, Jimmy's, at $2.50 for basil you could give me more than a couple tablespoons of it.
Minus one star for delivery- it took 20+ minutes longer than you said it would and my food arrived COLD. Seriously. if Dominoes can manage to get their $8 pizza  here on time and hot, you should be able to do the same for your $20 pizza.
Due to the slow delivery and cold arrival I'm not sure how useful this place will be for me despite the delicious almost taste of home. If you can't get it to me hot or at least pretty warm I probably won't give you my money again. If you could rectify that... I would probably eat there once a week.
I'll just chop my own basil.
I like this place. Â It's not trying to be anything else but what it claims to be. Â The storefront is unassuming, there's only a few tables inside, and a counter to order from.
I liked the sausage over the pepperoni. Â And the red over the white, although the white is very, very good -- I just prefer red pizzas for the hit of acid ("you mean you took a hit of acid too?!")
Tried the tiramisu and it was dry from sitting in the fridge, but I'm sure it was good when it was first made. Â Didn't get a chance to try the beignets this time, but I sure will next time. Â Also, they sell buffalo wings now (1/2 dozen for $6 or a dozen for $10).
And huzzah! We just made it inside the 5 mile delivery radius, so Jimmy, we will see your delivery guy very soon.
4.5 Stars.
I think this place has pretty decent pizza. Â I tried a slice of white cheese and sausage. Â They are pretty close to authentic new york style pizza. Â A little thinner and a little bigger than the place I always went in NYC when I was still working there. Â
I think this place is worth five stars with frequency visits. Â Just not sure when I will go there next time simply because I don't work near the spot anymore.
jimmy's in Lincoln Square is a pizza slice joint...with a bonus. Beignets. Yes, the fav Nol's treat are also served here. The real deal too. Pizza, these amazing garlic twists, and pizza are all good. Had the white pizza with plenty of garlic, basil, and ricotta. Â The place is small and bring cash - no cc'ds.
Review Source:I love this place. Â This pizza place is in my neighborhood and is my local pizza joint. Â I love how you can buy pizza by the slice or by the entire pie. Â :) Â The pizza is expensive, but it's worth every penny. Â The beignets are also very tasty. Â The staff is super nice and I've never had a bad meal here. Â The only gripe that I have is that they don't take credit cards so sometimes I have to make a special trip to the ATM beforehand. Â I definitely recommend this place!
Review Source:Pizza was great! beignets were delish, and I'm from Louisiana, so i'm comparing them to cafe du monde. the garlic knots were very good as well. the lady at the counter was very nice and helpful. i really don't like "chicago-style" or deep dish pizza- so i was glad to find a place with good thin crust. i'll be back! P.S. this is CASH ONLY.
Review Source:I think this was our first try of NY style pizza, and this was a great place for it. Â I'll go with about 4.5 stars. Â There were four basic pizza choices readily available at lunch - white, sausage, pepperoni, and cheese. Â We picked a slice of white and pepperoni ($3.65 each), and they reheat for you. Â There are apparently a few more selections available at dinnertime. Â It was good, fresh, and tasty, with the nice thin and fold-able crust, but not quite a 5 star pizza given the reheating. Â Good nonetheless. Â They have a nice casual, homey atmosphere, and Intelligentsia coffee on the menu to boot ($2.95 for a large). Â It's an Asian run place and they've only been open for 1.5 years. Â Free parking in rear, which is convenient as they are located right on the corner of Foster and Lincoln. Â We'll be back.
Review Source:So, after the disasterous first try, they did offer me a free pizza. Two weeks later, I decided it was time to give them another go. When I called to place my order, a woman answered but when I told her that my account should indicate that I have a free pie coming my way, Jimmy himself got on the phone to take my order and to apologize. I added an order of garlic knots to go with the pizza since Jimmy said he was going to give me a $25 credit. Pizza arrived quickly this time - yay! Â - and was hot. I loved the garlic knots and have to say, the pizza is pretty damn good when actually hot. It is probably the best NY style in the city; I prefer it over Luigi's. I will definitely order from them again. I am glad that Jimmy took the necessary steps to retain me as a customer, too!
Review Source:Holy Beignets.
Allow me to preface this by saying I have not had New Orleans beignets so I don't have anything to which to compare these. But they were hot and doughy, soft and pillowy, lightly crisped on the outside, full of sweet sweet pastry air inside, and covered in about half a pound of powdered sugar.
All in all they were huge pillows of heaven in my mouth. I ate three and would gladly have devoured ten more, if it were not for thoughts of my waistline and how long it will take to work these powdery babies off. Beignets did take forrrrrrrrrrever to be brought out. Apparently there was some miscommunication between kitchen and counter girl, but as my companion and I were busy talking up a storm it wasn't a big deal. I think she thought they had brought them out and they thought that she would bring them out and as a result no one brought them out. Until they did. And it was worth the wait plus she was so sweetly apologetic that even if I had been mad, I would forgive them.
Did not have pizza. Fully intend, however, to return to try the pizza, which was being thoroughly enjoyed by other patrons and smelled delicious. Coffee by Intelligentsia was unexpected surprise. The atmosphere was very much of small neighborhood pizza joint. The kind of place you'd probably pass by because it looks so much like all the other little corner pizza stores. The patrons were similarly neighborhoodly inclined. It felt friendly and unassuming. Which is perfect.
I will be back. Luckily this is within (my idea of) walking distance so I can at least count on burning a few calories there and back.
Jimmy's Pizza Cafe- Best of the Big Apple & the Big Easy... NYC-style, gourmet pizza by the slice or by the pie and delicious, made-to-order beignets.
Is it worth the hike to Lincoln Square? BEST PIZZA IN CHICAGO. Really. I'm dead serious. Better than Lou Malnati's. Yes, I know that's deep dish, but it makes your mouth just as happy... and no calorie-induced, suicidal thoughts afterwards.
FOOD
Cheese: Perfect crust- crispy outside, chewy inside; fantastic sauce- perfect blend of sweet and savory made with San Marzano tomatoes (as seen by the jars used decoratively around the café) and a distinct basil and herbs finish; plenty of high quality cheese- just the right amount. I hate when they skimp on cheese and the slice looks just as red as it does white. And it's imported Grande cheese  (as seen by their plaque on the wall.) If you don't know, now you know... cheese so fancy they give out authenticity plaques.
White: Again, crust- perfect. Topped with just the right blend of cheeses, garlic and spices. Love the generous dollop of creamy ricotta on each slice that you can spread out or savor in one big bite. This is a must get!
Special Slices: It's always the highlight of my day when one of these specialties makes the lineup. Jimmy usually makes these on the weekends, yet you never really know when... just best to go often:) I've tried the Bacon*Date*Walnut, Buffalo Chicken & Chicken Caesar Salad (my fav).
Garlic Knots: This garlic deliciousness perfectly compliments the slices. Jimmy's talent as a dough master consistently shines through - chewy and fluffy inside and a firm crust exterior. Plenty of garlic and basil flavor without overwhelming.
Beignets: The Doughnut Vault (Brendan Sodikoff) of Beignets. So, basically, on a whole 'nother level. It's all in the dough- Fluffy, pillowy, warm and sweet.  And they're huge (not those little fried nuggets you get at Grand Lux.) Comes dusted with powdered sugar and don't forget to get a dipping sauce! The Crème Fraiche is my fav, but the chocolate and raspberry are amazing as well.
Tiramisu: BEST tiramisu in the city. And if you don't know me, I'm the Dessert Queen. The award previously went to Quartino's, but Jimmy has them beat. You get a generous slice of the most perfectly textured, creamy, espresso chocolate heaven. The cream layer is a custard-like cream not some whipped cream crap.
Coffee: They serve Intelligentsia. If you drink coffee, enough said.
SERVICE
Fantastic service, fast. I often see the chef himself checking on the customers from time to time or one of his family members taking your order.
AMBIENCE
Clean & casual. There's about six 4-tops; so, not a lot of room- but they deliver!
We don't have a lot of options for pizza slices in 60625, so Jimmy's has a leg up. But my first foray on a Friday evening for a couple of representative slices proved that they may have both legs up. There's a choice of 4 or 5 slices to go and the standard pizza with topping choices, and the closest thing to New York slices I have found in Chicago. Salads to go, tiramisu  and beignets, too. A pretty unique set of choices for a quick pizza takeout spot.
I opted for the "Brooklyn" special which is two very ample slices and a drink for $8.25. Both the sausage slice and the white pizza slice were excellent. I had really never tasted anything like the white pizza, all chewy and moist, juicy with garlic and creamy with the lightest, thinnest layer of white cheese, and dab of cool ricotta. I chose to take it home. The dining area is pretty modest with a few tables, so not a place for groups, nor exactly a spot to linger. But excellent and flavorful pizza which will keep you coming back, I think. My taste buds are still tingling from the experience.
Pizza is Nature's Perfect Food: protein, calcium, veggies, grain; NYC immigrant Napolitano/Calabrese-style its finest exponent; and nobody in Chicago makes it like Jimmy's.
I spent the last two weeks or so attempting to find the best thin-crust joint that delivers to north Edgewater. You see, the first six times I ordered from Jimmy's they didn't deliver outside a 1/2 mi. radius of Lincoln Sq. We had about 2-3" of snow on Christmas Eve, icy sidewalks on New Year's day, and I am just now getting over a rotten cold. Â Obviously, changing out of my jammies and clogs to drive out to Foster & Lincoln in the freezing cold wasn't gonna cut it. So I ordered from a profusion of thin-crust stalwarts: I Monelli, Il Forno (both infuriatingly mushy crust "Chicago-party-cut" into squares); Calo's "Neapolitan" (oddly rigid & crackery); and even my old pre-Jimmy's standby, Apart (ice cold, oddly dense hard collar, trimmed to fit the pan. Boo. Hiss). Â I even thawed and hand-tossed some frozen Wildfire dough and used the last of my homegrown tomatoes & basil, but couldn't transfer it from the parchment to the pizza stone in my oven; so I had to keep it on the parchment and lower the heat to "Fahrenheit 450" to prevent an oven fire. Of course, the collar failed to rise and it was soggy in the middle despite aged mozzarella. (I have since bought a peel).
So tonight it was somewhat warm out and I resolved to make the trek to Jimmy's. I called in my order and asked, "You still don't deliver north of Bryn Mawr, do you?" Jimmy answered, "We do now--within a 5-mile radius. But it'll take an hour or so." Knowing that his slices are even better after a short stay in the toaster oven, I said "fine" and waited. No need to get my wallet yet--I had an hour, right? WRONG! The pizza was at my door in 35 minutes--still HOT. Â
And still crazy stupid good. Â I was recently in Garden City at a branch of the legendary Garibaldi's. Â Trust me: Jimmy's beat their pie hands-down. Ordered a half-anchovy (they have them now!)/half sausage 20-incher. One bite (especially of the sausage) and the last 40 years melted away--I was a school kid on a Church Ave. street corner again. (Sausage crumbles are VERY Brooklyn, BTW). Now that none of my family live there any more, if Jimmy's starts serving Ices Queen I might NEVER have to go back to NYC!
. Three of us got through half a pizza. Oh, what a lovely brunch tomorrow!
Great pizza, very fresh, tasty, good price. They made a Margherita pizza for me, even though they didn't have it on the menu. It was very good! Â
I can't say enough about the beignets. What a great surprise! Very fresh, fluffy and soft with LOTS of powered sugar....YUM YUMM YUM!!! Great price too! $3.65 for 3 of them.
Staff was very nice as well. I'll be back for sure!
Begnet's were absolutely fantastic. Â Freshly made and delicious. Â Pizza was good. Â Crust is chewy and the sausage and other ingredients were better than average. Â Service staff were very attentive. Â Eating area is basic and small and has cold drafts from central door entrance. Â Recommend carry out for this restaurant. Â Pricing was good. Â My family of four total tab was $44 and we had pizza to take home with us. Â Quality was far above average.
Review Source:In a city full of thin crust fakers, Jimmy's is the closest I've found to real NY-style pizza. Â These are your signature big, chewy, foldable slices, perfectly topped and with just the right amount of char on the bottom. Â The plain and white pizza were both fantastic and you can top individual slices with whatever you want. Â
The beignets were unexpected treat. Â They come piping hot straight from the fryer, plump and generously dusted with powdered sugar. Â So fluffy and crispy...I've never had beignets this good anywhere in the city. Â At $3.65 for 3 makes this a great deal. Â Extra props for the Intelligentsia coffee served here which pairs beautifully with the beignets.
The owner Jimmy is a friendly guy and can often be found working behind the counter. Â Only drawback is that it's cash only.
I like everything about this place. $3.15 thin crust slices. Garlic Knots, Pepperoni Rolls, Wings, Sandwiches, Coffee...and Beignets because why not? Jimmy has been there both times I went. Nice guy.
The pizza itself is fantastic, but nothing flashy. Even though it's a slice place, everything was fresh and tasty. They have a flaccid, New York style crust. My favorite was the White. Sausage was good as well. Garlic Knots are a nice side item.
It's cash only, but there's a Walgreens across the street and a Dominick's a block away (Chase ATMs).
Moving back to Lincoln Square, I finally got to check out this place after driving by it numerous times. While I'm very loyal to the pizza I grew up in here in Chicagoland, and find a lot of New Yorkers vastly overrate New York style pizza, a top notch slice of New York style is always worthwhile. And Jimmy's is the first place I've gone to in Chicago that does New York style that's worth of NYC. The toppings are fine and the cheese to sauce balance is perfect. But it's the crust that makes it stand out -- it's just write, chewy but substantial. A slice or two of Jimmy's fulfills my pizza craving. I'll add that my mother-in-law is a big fan of their white pizza. The beignets are quite good too, but I've only had them once, as I don't want this place to expand my waistline too much.
Review Source:It's taken me 13 years to find a pizza place that I would put up there with anything I grew up in New Jersey with.
If blindfolded, I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.
The crust is right, and the cheese to sauce ratio is dead on.
Good pizza is a very simple thing: water, flour, sauce, cheese.
It is astonishing, sometimes shocking to see what people try to pass off as "NY" style pizza in this town.
This place rocks.
I've dreamed repeatedly about Jimmy's white pizza since my initial visit to this tiny Lincoln Square spot. Appearing in my dreams is absolutely no happenstance, so say I. And quite the privilege, too. You're doing something pretty darn right, Jimmy. Bravo.
'Cuz nothing tops a big, floppy, chewy crust adorned with heaps 'o garlic, stringy mozzarella, mounds of ricotta and a kiss of fresh basil. Bellissima!
Such an NYC staple, you can find it at any pizza joint in the LES, UWS, NOHO, SOHO and Your-Mama's-a-Ho, but, it's only done really on point here in Chicago at Jimmy's.
They have a couple salads up in here for you roughage fans and add an order of garlic knots or beignets - Jimmy's signature items - for an exercise in calorific carbohydrate consumption.
Slices are reheated, but whole pies are on the fly.
p.s. Cash only, Suckas! Gets ya every time.
Had a craving for NY style Pizza and placed an order with Jimmy's. I was disappointed this time. I was surprised to find the pizza delivered much faster than usual. I found the quality of the pie is no longer the same.
The ingredients, sauce, cheese and sausage are top quality, same as usual. However the crust has problems... The crust now tastes more like a typical Chicago style crust which tastes thick, chewy, dough-ie.
My total bill was about 22 bucks for a medium size thin crust sausage pizza delivered, not including tips. I don't mind paying a little more for quality and spend a little more time waiting for my food. I hope they would bring back the old NY style crust/pizza.
This is by far the best NY style pizzas I have ever had. Period. Even better than those I have had in NY!!! The garlic pizza is my favorite! The tomatoes sauce on the pizzas were so fresh!
The freshly made beignets were out of this world!!! I think it's way better than Cafe Du Monde's...not that theirs are a "standard"...but just saying....
Piping hot, yet, light enough that you wouldn't think you are eating a fried dough. The cream sauce was soooo good, dense and rich enough, yet, not too sweet...i could just scoop the cream sauce out of the containers and eat it alone! :P
This is *hands down* the best NYC-style thin crust I've had in the city. Â The beignets are good, but the Cafe DuMonde comparison is an unfair one. Â You offer good coffee and French pastry, mention NOLA, and the bar is honestly set too high for anyone north of the Mason Dixon line. Â That's ok, ya can't fault someone for cooking two beloved food items from distant corners of the states and only completely dominating one of them. Â My only other criticism (like you cared) is the lack of diversity of slice. Â Most Manhattan slice joints always have a cornucopia of choices. Â I'll be coming back often so please if it's not so much trouble, can you add some other slices, preferably with spinach? Â Regardless, I'll be back. Â Soon. Â BRING CASH. Â
(Worthy of note- the crust was so authentic, I had an overwhelming urge to fold the entire thing in half, including the plate, and power walk through some tourists on the UWS. Â Wrong city, wrong UWS.)
Pizza is as close to east coast style pizza that I've found in Chicago. Â If I was only rating the food, I'd give 5 stars. Â
The business has been open for about a year now, and they finally seem to be working out a lot of the kinks, but they still aren't quite there yet. Â
The good parts:
They now have two sizes of pizza and offer delivery, which is a plus. Â
It's a huge upgrade to that corner of the neighborhood
The staff is very friendly
The beignets
The bad parts:
They often run out of menu items, like garlic knots, calzones, or variety if you walk in for a slice. Â
They also charge full price for half toppings, which is a pet peeve of mine.
They haven't figured out a good way to warm the pizza after it's made, so make sure you pick it up on time or it sits on a baking rack cooling off. Â
It's  cash only.  Come prepared.
Jimmy doesn't believe in pizza with vegetables - just plain cheese, white, or two types of meat.
Jimmy doesn't let you add a topping to a plain slice.
Jimmy's plain slice is serviceable but not stellar.
Jimmy doesn't believe in air conditioning in August.
Jimmy does have a wider than usual variety of canned pops, though only one is diet.
Jimmy doesn't have a receptacle to recycle those cans (ask and they'll do it).
Three stars because pizza is in the sex & pizza category. Â One invisible star for allowing me to make a Seinfeld season six reference.
This place (cash only) has the best East Coast style pizza I've found in my 4+ years living in Chicago. Hands down.
Their beignets are incredible, too. And huge, so order one per 2-3 people.
The best (in my mind, the only) way to really enjoy this place is to eat in, and order the Brooklyn Special: 2 huge slices of pie (the sausage is easily their best stuff) and a fountain drink (refills available for .50), all for $7.50+tax.
As others have said, the to-go packaging leaves much to be desired, the prices outside of the special are fairly steep, and the whole pies they churn out just don't have the same slightly crispy texture that their slices do. Otherwise, this place is a 5-star kind of place. Go!
You know why I love pizza?! Â Because I can pick one favorite pizza joint per type of pizza. Â My favorite New York style? You win Jimmy's! Â
The cheese pizza is delicious, the white pizza is wonderful, and the sausage pizza is the best I have had. Â I seriously love their sausage pizza. Â That is quite a sentiment coming from an Italian who makes 300lbs from scratch at family gatherings. Â The garlic knots and peperoni rolls are also very good. Â
Friendly staff and great pizza. Â You cannot go wrong! Â Now, I need to try those beignets.....
PS... Cash only and they do deliver within a 5 mile radius.
Alright, I'll admit it... This place is the closest thing I've ever found to NYC pizza in Chicago. Â It's pretty damn good. Â As a born and raised New Yorker, it takes a lot for me to say that.
What I wasn't impressed by was the aesthetics of the place... They desperately need to invest in some remodeling, especially the outside. Â It's easy to pass right by it and not even notice the place. Â From the outside it looks some run-down, crappy little coffee shop.
They had tons of cheesy "New York" posters on the walls. Â Seems like trying too hard. Â And it's cash only, which is annoying.
Not sold.
Having never been to New York (I KNOW) I have no basis to judge just how NY of a slice you can get at Jimmy's. Â So how about we just judge a pizza spot on the basics and go from there.
The za - You know, it was pretty alright. Â The crust was easily the best part. Â Thin, but substantial enough to hold up cheese, sauce and a few slices of pepperoni. Â Definitely greasy. Â Not an overwhelming amount of cheese (a good thing) and the sauce was standard. Â I was lucky enough to get a slice from a pie that had just come out of the oven, but I questioned the freshness of some of the other slices sitting out. Â None the less, I liked it and I'd give it a solid 4 stars.
The garlic knots - Garlic and oil like whoa! Â I'm Italian and I was completely overwhelmed with the garlic level happening here. Â All evening long I felt like I was breathing garlicky fire. Â It was kind of foul, actually. Â I'm not trying to kill vampires, here.
Nuts & Bolts - For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE get some better to-go containers. Â A flimsy paper plate holding up a big greasy slice with another flimsy paper plate thrown on top and tossed in a paper bag DOES NOT suffice. Â Not only is there nothing holding your slice together, but the paper plate on top actually pulled all the cheese off the slice when I removed it. Â Lame.
Payment options - Cash only? Â WTF? Â
So... yeah. Â Good slice. Â The other things can use some work.
Good stuff! Parked in the back parking lot and got my slices to go. Garlic lovers will love the White pizza and garlic knots. You can ward off vampires with all the garlic. The bbq chicken pizza was also very tasty. Of course I ordered the beignets to take home and by the time I ate all my pizza and knots, I was too full of dough, so I only had a few bites of them. But from what I tasted, they were deliciously deep fried.
The only complaint I have is the way they sent home my 4 slices. I know it might be hard to order those slice size boxes, but it's definitely worth it if you sell slices! They put each slice between 2 paper plates, and then in a paper bag. It was very hard to stack and carry everything without squishing the slices.
This place has flavorful pizza, a nice interior dining space, and decent prices (although more towards the high side). Good for an everyonceinawhile pizza stop.
The elusive New York slice of pizza is not unlike the great white shark: dangerous, and impossible to sustain outside of its natural environment.
As hard as we've tried, we've been unsuccessful in keeping the great white shark in captivity, and making it possible for the masses to face this dangerous and intriguing creature up close.
Such is the case with the New York slice of pizza: a God-sent miracle of a perfect hunger-killing machine that is just as elusive outside of its natural habitat.
Whether it's the water (for the pizza, not sharks), or just the lack of expertise, New Yorkers have been unsuccessfully searching for this taste of home for years. Perhaps we have a better shot at sustaining sharks in Lake Michigan then we do in finding New York pizza replicated outside of New York.
New Yorkers: you're closer than you've ever been to the real thing thanks to Jimmy's.
You've suffered countless disappointments in search of the standard issue New York slice outside of the five boroughs, one so attainable at any number of "Famous" yet indistinguishable Manhattan joints, one with the perfect combination of foldable crispness, light sauce, crispy-chewy heel, that sheen of red grease that you have no business patting down, the flop at the end, the restraint one must show from pulling that layer of stringy, soupy, delicious cheese off in a single bite.
Jimmy's is as close as I've gotten after trials through endless "NY Style" fakers. Big, perfectly sauced, perfectly thin, cheesy, slightly oily (this is a good thing), and at a very reasonable price per slice.
I had a fresh-out-the-oven pepperoni slice that was 95% there. Just a tick too floppy. And the base had a light, airy crispness that wasn't bad, just different. Tasty? Hell yes. Better than anything I've had since leaving home? Absolutely. It just continues to amaze me that something ubiquitous in New York has yet to be perfectly replicated elsewhere.
You'll get friendly, smiley service, something I never experienced in a NY joint. There are standard slice options, including pepperoni, sausage (crumbles, not sliced, but that's fine), and a white pizza that's pretty good, but needs more weight. All slices are thrown in an oven for a refresh after your selection--a "must do" that I'd sometimes have to argue for in New York.
Take anyone who didn't spend 18 years eating this stuff in New York to Jimmy's, and they won't know the difference. It's excellent pizza, thoughtfully prepared, and overall delicious. At a great price too! And it's BYOB, which is always a bonus. This pizza goes well with a good beer.
We're close to a breakthrough, New Yorkers. Closer than ever. I give it five years: great whites at Shedd and New York Slices for everyone.
We decided to check out Jimmy's after reading that it was one of the best NY-style pizza places in Chicago. I was a little skeptical, since I've read the same thing about tons of other places and been let down each time. So we ordered a large pepperoni with roasted red peppers, and stopped by for carryout.
It was great!!! Definitely the closest thing to authentic NY-style pizza that we've found. Big, chewy foldable slices with the perfect ratio of cheese to toppings, and just a touch of greasy goodness on top. It even re-heated well the next day!
I definitely recommend carryout if you're close enough, this kind of pizza suffers the most from an extended delivery time in my opinion. It will get soggy in the middle, and might need quick blast in the oven once you get it. If it had taken another 5 minutes to get our pizza home, it would have needed it. In either case, it's worth the extra work because this pizza is delicious!!!
Highly recommended, and we will definitely be back whenever we get the NYC pizza itch!!
