Joco's is one of my favorite waltham spots! They have a great beer list & most nights have music! They also have some pretty good food and a great bar staff! It is a small bar, but it makes the bar scene a little more intimate and enjoyable

Hm..... I feel uncomfortable at this bar. The staff know what they are doing and are good at their jobs. Kudos for that. But from what I saw, can tend to act immature and much like teenagers. The food is okay, I only had a burger - but it was dry; french fries were soggy.

Huge beer list and definitely a place to go for a quick beer. The place is tiny, but that doesn't hinder it's appeal - it works.

Give it a shot: it wasn't a complete loss, but not the most inviting place.

Saw some positive reviews, so I knew it would be good, but I wasn't expecting to be as blown away as I was.

As the first restaurant I've tried since moving to Waltham, I'm worried it set the bar too high. It's small, but very nice and comfortable, and as soon as we walked in the servers were friendly, helpful, and very attentive. We ordered some wings and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer on a whim (the wings were 25 cents), and tried the extensive beer menu. When our food came, we were shocked. They were some of the best wings I've ever had, as were the mozzarella sticks. Soon after, our burgers came which were equally as fantastic. Hand-cut french fries are a nice departure from the usual frozen fare, and the buns they used for the burgers were crispy and tasted great.

Overall, we were extremely impressed, and can't wait for the next chance to come back.

This is a solid option for a bar in the Waltham area. Yes it is small, and other than a jukebox and a small video game machine at the end of the bar there isn't much in thrills. But it has plenty of TV's, good vibe and crowd, and regularly have a good live, local band. A strong beer selection, great whiskey/bourbon drinks, and other worthwhile cocktails. The best part might be the food. Not only the normal bar & grill food, but some rarely seen food at a bar. Good prices too!
All in all, the place is easy to miss and at first glance people might be unsure. But thats perfect for the regular crowd that goes here. A good option for all different crowds.

One of the smallest bars in Waltham.

Service has always been shotty.
Clientele can be hit or miss, mostly miss.

They have a jukebox.
Some nights you can find a one man band playing live music.
Other nights they have karaoke.

Not much more I can tell ya about Joco's, other than it's on the typical pub crawl list.

I only go in there upon the request of my friends as a stop along the way to another bar. I don't hate it, but I don't love it.

Ok...i have been here several times but tonight was the worst service ever! Scottie hands me a check for food $16...i ordered 2 glasses of cheap ass wine. He tells me $10...then comes back with this lame check and says that its a "reused" check! Obviously trying to scam the innocent! Bad business Joco! Not honest at all!

Update...It was not Scottie it was Paul.

Whoa. This might be the best bar food I've had in Waltham.

The BLT was on some good, crusty bread instead of simple toast, which was an instant success. SIde salad came in a bowl and was decent instead of just being some plain leafs and generic vinaigrette. Single malt side whisky was great too.

Speaking of that, they've got a good selections of drinks, including a whisky and martini menu. I think they do music and karaoke at some point too. Overall a really solid place I can't wait to get back to.

Stopped in the other night to watch the Celtics and had to let you all know that Joco's menu has expanded. Not sure when it happened but I had some Wings that were the perfect size and cooked nice and crispy just like they do at your classic wing places - Buffs, Duffs, etc.

Also had some nachos which were HUGE and a basket of fries which appeared to be fresh cut. Keep up the great work Jocos!

I enjoy my time in this bar thoroughly.. they seem to just get it. If you read most of my reviews you will notice a trend. i am far from a high-maintenance patron. I like good beer, good drinks, good service, good food, and good atmosphere... I like to see when a staff knows just how to do all these things.. I'm not looking to be fawned over. Add Joco's to the list of relaxed spots that just gets it.. a cozy, congenial atmosphere and all of the aforementioned traits that make a bar feel like your local even when it's not. If i lived closer to Waltham this would be mine..

Plenty of screens if you want to watch the game.. a decent juke... all i need..

I'm not sure if they upgraded the beer list after some of the previous reviews, but i found it to be pretty well rounded for a 'burbs bar and there is no way there isn't SOMETHING for you beer nerds to like.. i drink all kinds and there was plenty of choice there for me...

Pro Tip: They make Dark & Stormy's and the Dark & Stormys' Russian counterpart the Moscow Mule, made with Russian Standard vodka, ginger beer, and fresh lime.. served in a copper mug... soooooooo gooood...

oh and also.. for you bigger folk.. this place is fat-kid approved... nice spacious benches and tables that aren't bolted down

My roommate and I love Joco's.

I was introduced to what was once described by friends as a "dive" or "hole in the wall" back in 2009 by my roommate, who had become a regular playing trivia and hitting it up after work with some old co-workers.

Over the past few years, I've become really impressed by how much Joco's has grown up. The menu was recently upgraded; totally upped their Moody Street ante! It's your standard bar fare, but my roommate and I haven't tried anything we didn't like, I'll put it that way.

Maybe I'm a little plain Jane, but I always go for their Greek salad w/ chicken - loaded with veggies, not too much dressing, just the way I like it. Also, if you're in the need for a greasy, hangover cure... get the BLT panini, it definitely does the trick. My roommate loves their variety of burgers too.

Their beer selection has evolved as well. There are more crafty beer selections on tap and they have a slew of bottled beers. But, I have to say, their Moscow Mule is one of the best I've ever had. To whoever stole Joco's supply of M.M. mugs, GIVE THEM BACK!!

There's also a theme for every night of the work week - you got trivia on Tuesday's, karaoke on Wednesday's, live music on Thursday's, DJ on Friday's and Saturday's...

Cheers to Joco and Scottie for their dedication and hard work!

I went with a group for Trivia night, and we like it A LOT!
Great time, great staff! Really wonderful service, which is not incredibly common in Waltham. Food was good, drinks were all really good.

Downsides; my friends got pitchers of beer, which they rated as more pricier than other places (I'm not a beer person, so I wouldn't know!). Also, it's a small space, so I can imagine it getting pretty crowded on a weekend night, so I would avoid it then.

All in all, I loved it.
Definitely my new bar of choice on Moody St.

I'd probably go 4.5 stars if possible. The only downside is some of their beers are a bit pricier than I think they need to be. If you go during slower times, it is very empty and often dead quiet, which can sometimes be a turnoff.

Some clueless person complained about the beer selection here and I can't disagree more (I'm kind of baffled at how someone might even make such a statement). They have maybe 16-20 things on tap, mostly a variety of craft beers both local and around the states. Seems to focus a bit more on US beers, but that's where I lean so maybe that's all I noticed ;)

Last night my haole wife got a little taste of home with a pint of Longboard (a somewhat spicy lager from Kona Brewing Company) while I enjoyed a Lagunitas IPA and a 21st Amendment IPA.

The food is all edible--nothing great, but nothing to complain about and remarkably cheap. I've only been going for a few months since moving to the area, but I have noticed a pretty steady rotation in their selection.

In general, Joco's is more like an homage to the townie bar than the real deal (or, more likely, once a townie spot that's been doing its best to cater to the "new Waltham"). It's quickly turned into my default "just grab a pint" spot on Moody.

It's meh. It's more of a townie bar for people who live around the Waltham area. They have trivia and karaoke, but seriously though it's really less than stellar. Not a lot on tap and not a lot available in bottles, unless you don't want to get any more craftier than Sam Adams, eeeehhhh, I'll drive the extra time it will take me to get to a real bar with a decent selection and a menu that includes something edible. I will say the bartenders and staff are always nice and pretty quick to help.

Hands down the best pub on Moody St. Tons of TVs, comfortable atmosphere and 2-for-1 specials every day from 1-4. The food is AMAZING. Try the Chipotle burger or the Italian. You won't be disappointed!

Went here for last call late Friday night. It's tiny but cozy. Typical Waltham bar scene with the townies, students, and 20-somethings.

This is the closest decent bar to our house and I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Great prices on drinks, nice flat screens to watch the game, and decent trivia on Tuesday nights (although it's not Stump! trivia so be ready for the host to give you lots of hints and to play name that tune with songs you've never heard of). It's never too crowded and when it's nice out they open up the windows to let some fresh air in.

It may not be the most exciting bar in the world, but it's better than spending $10 cover to get into the Skellig.

After several check-in's here, a review's due.

Solid small town bar with good service, offering the "usuals" in beer.
We enjoy downing some beers and playing trivia here on Tuesday nights!

Best bargain is the $2.99 burger (no sides), but still haven't tried one completely yet - only stolen bites of my co-diners' burgers.

Great service (the bartender is pretty and friendly - what a combo!)
Personable (met the owner & see below) -- Major kudos for the fact that they reach out to their customers and make them feel valued.
Our spot for entertainment on a random weeknight (Tuesday night trivia, game machine, live DJ/music ... events happening pretty much all week)

Great selection of mixed drinks - at around $8 or so, you can get whatever you want, however you want it!

Stopped in here for a quick beer while waiting to meet my coworkers at Boca Bar down the street. I had some time to kill and was basically sampling what Moody Street had to offer on a Thursday night...

This is a cool little spot. Big screen TV's and cheap beer. I think it was Joco behind the bar...and he was really friendly and asked if I wanted to order some food. I was only there for a quick drink but checked out the menu anyway. Very reasonably priced.

There were some locals in there that definitely knew I hadn't been in there before, but no hassle. A guy was coming in and setting up for some live music for the night...but I had to bounce and head to my next spot.

I'll definitely come back, grab some food, and stay a little longer.

sorta had to come here to kill time on a thirsty thursday evening when a coworker was going to be late to a meeting.

they sell $3 drafts and $10 pitchers of coors light, and they have that deer buck hunter game thing.

Joco's has become one of my locals now! My husband and I frequent Joco's at least once a week.
Firstly location is convenient right on Moody Street. Secondly the owner and bartenders are so friendly and seem to be genuine people. You will never be left needing another beer because they are already on it!
The atmosphere is that of a nicely done (and newly done) pub - with front windows that open up and are great to drink at in good weather and people watch! A Juke Box, Dart Board, Bar-Top video games, and Flat screen TV's all add to the customer's enjoyment.
On the weekends they provide live music and DJ's depending on the night of week.
The food menu is small limited to sandwiches, soups and salads however I have never gone wrong with anything I have ordered (Grilled Cheese and Tomato Panini is my Fave!)
I'm a big big fan!

This review is only for the late Friday night entertainment. So I'm not normally a fan of the Kings of Leon but the band at Joco's did an awesome rendition of Use Somebody. Then came Phish's Heavy Things followed by an MJ song and a few others I wasn't familiar with. The Scarlet Begonias into LA Woman segue was flawless and both songs were superb. I could have done without Don't Stop Believing but CSN's Southern Cross was a nice added touch.

As for the service - it was great. And prompt. I'll try to stop by here again for food and/or earlier-in-the-night drinking and give an update if that experience happens to be less than stellar.

Been here for about a year now and couldn't complain. Great service and nice atmosphere. I have won trivia there before and I noticed someone said they don't honor the gift certificates there, but I have used multiple ones there and no problems! Limited food selection at this point but the food they do have is great and the drinks are cheap. Would recommend for tuesday night trivia, which is always a great time, but they also have karaoke on wednesdays and live music sometimes as well.

Brought a gift card from http://restaurant.com on a quiet Thursday night and they agreed to honor it. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Good beer fills (right to the top, full pints). Beer selection consists of about 10 reliable standard choices. Food selection is limited (just a handful of sandwiches and a few appetizers).

I've been going to this bar for about 6 months now. The $2 high lifes brought me in the door and the good food and awesome staff kept me coming back. I also may have gift certificates to use that make it an extremely cheap night, but even without them I would be a regular anytime I was in the area.

The $2 high lifes don't exist anymore and have been replaced with $11 pitchers of Coors Light. That is fine by me and cheap enough to split with a friend. I tend to go during the week or early in the night on weekends so most of the time there are only a few parties. The staff is friendly and the service is quick (even on the nights where there were pub crawls and larger parties there)

I've never stayed for any of the entertainment because a small bar & loud band isn't my style, but it is a great place to grab cheap dinner & drinks before the night really starts.

Pretty poor business practices at Joco's. I have been here a half dozen times in past year which is to say at Jocos..... I am almost a regular. I enjoyed bar in past. However I recently purchased gift certificates as I knew would be back again. I even gave one as a gift....bad move. .....for me and the person I gave the certificate as a gift to.

When I tried to use the gift certificate Joco's staff and the owner Joco himself had multiple excuses. 1) It was expired- (No it was not....2015 expiration date) 2) Must order food to use it. (No restrictions on gift cert)I than tried to order food to use it, but of course the kitchen was closed. 3) The radio station that they worked their trade or promotion with is going out of business and switching ownership.( It was WZLX and 100+ other businesses are on the promotion. All of them reputable. It was not when I purchased it. No matter- This was a lie too. 4) The gift certificate had the JOCO's logo and was legitimate. All of these comments were lies.....what was worse was I was speaking to Joco the owner. His resolution was on my "next " visit he woud allow me to trade it in for the amount I paid for it.....Great solution Joco. Why would I even purchase the gift card? I could just spend the cash there in the first place. Really Bad business Joco.

If you win Trivia or Karaoke contests there watch out if they give you "Bar money or a Gift Card' as it may not be valid ever.

My advice is If your a performer or vendor- make sure you get paid up front as would hate to see the list of excuses Joco may present to you to not get paid. Waltham is not the best night scene anyway, but there are plenty of other places to spend $$ at that are much more enjoyable than having to negotiate and haggle to use a gift certificate.

My friend and I love going here. It is one of those bars with a crowd anyone would feel comfortable with, with some cuties thrown in! Great staff, Sean is GREAT, beer is cold and the TV's are on.....they even put the Met's on for me one evening! They did a wonderful job transforming the bar over from what it was, love the windows.

This is a terrific, neighborhood bar with great live music, drinks and even food. They have a few televisions so you can watch the game as well. The staff was attentive and prompt and the prices were excellent. Finding parking around there isn't bad and the food I ordered was excellent. I had the roastbeef BBQ sandwich and it was amazing. Seriously!

The live music was good and the people there were local. A nice change from Boston's scene. The only negative about this place is that it's fairly small so it gets packed quickly.

*Live music (awesome).
*Low-lighting means the place is a warm place to tuck away and have a pint.
*Pub has much Irish influence (yay for celebrating my Celtic heritage!).
*Music: good playlist, perfect volume, jukebox opportunities!
*The game was on, but conversation is the main attraction.
*The wait staff was lovely!
-Sure it was just the cook and the bartender, but they were quite hospitable! The bartender was unsure of what was in our drinks - but looked them up, shook them up, and poured 'em out (YUM!).
*Delicious drink selection (prince $8.00-$9.00 for martini's): I highly recommend the "Nuts&Berries"
*Trivia Tuesdays (more excuses to get out on the weeknights and live it up!).

We will certainly return to this warm establishment! It felt like we had been local patrons for a long time when it was our first visit. The prices aren't terrible, but will keep you from getting out of control. Fantastic service!!!

A nice looking bar without attitude and a neighborhood feel without creepy townies...is this possible you ask?? It is at Joco's.

My friends and I first stumbled upon this place back on Halloween. There wasn't too big of a crowd, a fabulous DJ and a super friendly atmosphere. It was one of the more fun nights out that I can remember. We were dancin' with complete strangers on a bench by the end of the night.

We recently returned for some dinner and drinks. Dinner was a little bit lighter fare than I expected. But the sandwiches and panini's were extremely fresh and they had some interesting sides of olives and green bean/mixed bean salad. Our only complaint was the lack of substantial sides like fries or chips. Great selection of mixed drinks, beer and wine. The live music was also a nice touch.

i don't know.. we went here for the 'grand opening' and it was kind of questionable.. the bench that we sat on was unfinished plywood which gave me a splinter in my hand.. the bathroom started to overflow and flooded the back area of the bar (which also smelled like raw sewage).. kind of just seemed like the place was quickly thrown together and they weren't quite ready to be open.. the beer was decent. good selection. no complaints there.. I would recommend checking joco's out at this point because i would assume that they've completed all of their construction and fixed the flooding problem.. i tend to not understand though when new bars open on moody street as if they don't even care to compete with the surrounding establishments. there's some really great, quality bars/restaurants in the area and i feel that should be taken into consideration.. not just simply opening a bar for the sake of selling beer.

Been to Joco's on a couple of occasions and I must say it's a pretty nice addition to the Moody St lineup. The drinks are tasty, the service is attentive, and the crowd, while usually mostly regulars, is still pretty chill.

The bar has a bit of a weird vibe. It's going for an upscale / ultra-modern look (lots of chrome, glass, and neon makes me feel like I'm drinking on the Starship Enterprise) but the clientele isn't uppity and neither is the staff. More importantly, the pricing isn't upscale, which is nice for my cheap ass.

I don't know what Scotti V. is smoking, but the place has no touches of Irish pub, unless you consider serving Guiness a touch. Perhaps exposed brickwork is Irish? *shrug*

Anyway, I'll definitely be back to this place. There aren't many places where I can talk with my coworkers for Friday happy hour, put on some heels and hang out with my girlfriends on Saturday, and nurse my hangover with some football on Sunday.
