Great local venue, just started going recently. Saw rotten sound from Finland one night, and abigail from Japan, on another. The sound was great, and the venue is a great size, so I could always see & hear what wuz going on. My bar experience was excellent, I had a very friendly punk-tattooed girl wait on me, who was clearly into the music being played, always a plus. Looking forward to my next show @ the joint!
Review Source:Went here last night for a Soca party. Got there at 10 and no one was there. It was supposed to be free for those of us playing in Hollywood carnival. The owner or manager was trying to charge us. After he finally called the promoter, he said it was OK to go in free. It didn't get going until around 11:30. It was a decent sized crowd not to busy. They need to turn on the air in there, its pretty hot! The drinks aren't priced to bad, 8 bucks for a very small Bacardi and diet coke. Bartender was nice and friendly, and kept checking back with us. Parking is on the street, but easy to find and free. It in a safe area, so no worries if coming alone. Â Its a small place, but I had a good time.
Review Source:I drive up from San Diego and visit 1-2 times a month, so you know this place has to be worth it! The bands are great, with special guests occasionally showing up to play on Friday-Saturday nights. The food and drinks are great and are very reasonably priced. I enjoy seeing Stephanie, Andy and Suzanne along with other staff members each time I go. Ondrea, the owner, is very nice and made me feel very welcome, as all of the staff did. If you want to have a good, casual time, hear good music and not be broke by the end of the night, this is the place to go!
Review Source:Yikes! After reading Jill H.'s review, I got a little worried, but after reading the business's reply, I'm definitely afraid! I get it, a customer writes a bad review and you want to set the record straight, but the response from Ondrea F. has the last attitude I want to see on behalf of the business. The customer is always right in theory, and you don't need to use Yelp to call them out. Discuss your matter or issue privately, please, because your public combat has just turned me off of your establishment more than the review itself.
Review Source:On 4/27/2013, Paid $10 cover charge. Ordered food and shit loads of alcoholic beverages... Yet the fucken owner wants to still charge $2 for water! I guess with this place, nothing is free! Surprised you don't have to pay to take a pist or shit in the bathroom! The only reason I gave this place one star cause I have to. I'll be glad to give you a reason why... The waitress never served in her life and it was her 2nd day on the job, was nervous ass hell. She was very nice. The food was decent, but then again who can fuck up a salad?? So food doesn't deserve credit here. The only good music was The Black Tongued Bell. When the headliner went on stage, I saw the owner actually working his fat ass... Serving food for the headliner's guest! Special VIP treatment! This is what I say about this place & the owner...FUCK YOU!!
Review Source:We love this place! Â And wish it was closer to Pasadena, but it's worth the drive!
The people now running it are a solid team, service-oriented and quality-focused. Â I was never there before the new owners, so can't compare, but the food is really good and reasonably priced, as are the drinks. Â
I've been there now a few times, and met the owners who are clearly energized and hard working.
The MUSIC is really well programmed in terms of quality and variety! Â The owners are good, smart musicians with wide tastes, they only slate music they respect, so you can always count on quality (well, sometimes the jams can be uneven but but also surprisingly hot, that's what makes jams often GREAT!)
And the owners are true to their word in terms of community support, with the Tuesday Pro-Jams and the Wednesday acoustic blues jams (a labor of love, not profit!), at which the new owner themselves participate. Â One of the only acoustic blues jam I've seen (among hundreds) supported by a sound engineer! Â
They even hosted a Los Angeles Blues Society open jam, which rocked the Joint!
Come for the music and stay for the food, this place deserves a try, you'll like it!
And no, I'm not a shill, just a musician and food nut who won't waste time at clubs that aren't devoted to service and quality.
The Joint is where it's at. You know those musicians that sell out stadiums? Yeah, well on select nights they jam here.... for a $10 cover. I usually hate paying a cover, but anytime they have one here it's completely worth it.
The staff is extremely friendly, the drinks are cheap/reasonable, and they serve great food. If you are looking for a good place for good times to happen, this is the place.
I really like this place. The vibe was great. Bands were great,  the sound was great, the only thing that wasn't  great was the $10 cover  on a Thursday  night. for local  bands. I  think $5. would be  a lot better and you'd get more people in  who'd  also drink.  I would go back  , but the bands have to be good.
Review Source:After my first time to THE JOINT, I couldn't wait to go back. The atmosphere is cool because everyone is laid back enjoying themselves and the music..the food ( you HAVE to try the CHICKEN TENDERS..a rare treat because they aren't frozen...but instead " made on the spot")! Kudos to the waitress who is always glad to see you. The REAL TREAT IS ON SUNDAY NIGHT...THE BAND OF BROTHERS...I didn't know I was so into "LIVE MUSIC" until I couldn't stop tapping my feet, smiling, and playing the table along to the beat;) I have seen groups play but HANDS DOWN...this group is the best ever! I wanna say the keyboard player is incredible because he switched from a piano sound to the sounds of an organ making it play my favorite..sounds of gospel...but then I remember the sounds of the sax..you get speechless with a smile because it's so smooth- to say WOW is an understatement....then there's the base player who makes you smile because his face says he loves what he does...the drummer...his solo just made me want to have an ounce of his talent...the guitar player makes it look easy-yet you know it's hardly easy to become that awesome! I saw other musicians in the audience who looked like they felt the same;) I drove home telling my guy...We have to go back at least two Sundays a month...he agrees because we couldn't stop talking about them. Try a Sunday and see....;)
Review Source:I live a couple blocks away from this place and it was my local spot for a few years.
Recently, they have changed owners and it's quite different. The food is better but the hours are inconsistent, like usual.
Normally that wouldn't bother me, but last night when I stopped by for a quick drink or two before going home, I was amazed at the lack of professionalism from the bartender who obviously doesn't know...well...anything.
That's fine, I ordered a beer. Hard to mess that up. After  spending the $10 for a pack of smokes instead of walking across the street to get them for half the price I decided to go outside and have a smoke.
It's 10PM....at a bar.
There was another couple, myself and a friend of the bartender at the bar. While going outside for my smoke the other couple decided it was time to leave. After they walk out I see some old guy come pull the string on the open sign and walk in to a cashed out receipt ready to sign.
No "Hey, we're closing, can i get you something before I cash you out"
Pretty damn rude.
I would stay away from businesses like that out of principle.
I've seen this bar in its various forms...blues bar, hard rock bar, rasta bar, and now it appears to be just a regular bar. This is a good thing!
Saw that a Doors tribute band was playing, and that supposedly there were new owners and management, and thought we'd give it another go.
We were pleasantly surprised at the turn around this place has made. The cover charge was reasonable, $10. The drink prices reasonable, $4 for a beer, $7 for a mixed drink. The food, we ordered chili cheese fries, was SOLID. Those fries were freaking delicious.
They've removed some of the TVS that were in there, also a good thing. There are still 4 above the bar, and it was pretty sweet watching the second half of a Lakers game while we waited.
The sound system is much better, in my opinion. Before, when I had seen bands play here, the vocals were all distorted, and the speakers sounded scratchy as if they'd been blown out. Now, I could actually make out the lyrics and hear the guitars, bass and keyboards.
The restrooms were clean, the people working friendly.
I'd say there was one main thing that I saw that could be improved. There's 4 booths on the side of the bar which were all reserved, so we had to eat at the bar. I'd suggest that they make a space at both ends of the bar for people buying drinks. We were not the only ones eating, and it was a bit uncomfortable with people reaching and pushing and yelling for drinks. There were so many stools that it was like a wall between people wanting drinks and the bar itself. This is an easy fix though.
I'm happy that the Joint has what appears to be some owners who actually care! Keep up the good work guys. I look forward to seeing more shows here.
I had not been to this place for years, but I recently have become a regular! Â I love how historic this venue is, and I have heard that random Rock celebrities stop in from time to time, so it's exciting to know that I could bump into anyone on any given night!
I was really wary about trying the food since it is not a usual occurrence to get great food in a live music venue setting, but we ordered a bunch of different items off the menu and I was blown away about how yummy everything was!
Chicken Strips-YUM Â Hot Wings-YUMMY Iceberg Wedge Salad with Blue Cheese crumbles, Bacon, Cranberries, Walnuts, drenched in Blue Cheese dressing?!? Â Holy CRAP that was the BOMB! Â Oh the fries were super dee-lish!
I love how you can come to this place and discover new bands, people watch, and have a great time any night of the week! Â This is one of my new favs and I can't wait to see how the word on the street spreads!
I started coming to this place int he 70's. It was always pretty cool with great music and decent food. At first it was just half the size it is now. Have seen many a great band and many great individual players here. The atmosphere has always been cool here. A few years back, maybe five or six, it turned into a Reggae club which sort to put a damper on it and the club got a funky reputation. It is now under new ownership. The new owners are a cool bunch that love all kinds of music and are going to be getting the more traditional types of music back into the club. It is already happening. The China Club is there every Tuesday night, so if you know anything about the LA and the New York music scene you will remember what a cool thing that is. All kinds of celebrities playing and singing and just hanging out. I like the club so much I decided to buy in and am not one of the owners. So come in and help us keep great live music alive. The food is great too these days. Great quality made fresh to order. Give it a shot!
Review Source:I believe that this place has recently been taken over by new management. Went there last night to see some musicians we know. The place has a fairly nice atmosphere, but the food was just ghastly. I had a salad that was so awful i couldn't eat it (dressing alone was like vinegar) and 24 hours later, I'm sick from eating a small amount of their French Fries. My friend ordered another kind of salad and said it was really bad. Nothing I saw passing by our table looked good, either.
The band we saw, who I know, was great, but that was expected. The next act that played was just really bad. So loud and distorted that we had to leave.
The woman who took our cover charge and the server were both very friendly & welcoming. I believe the place could be a lot better, but if they don't improve the quality of the food, forget about it!
I did appreciate that they have a FT security guard there.
While there are four TVs over the bar, which may appeal to many people, it is a huge turnoff to me when I go to hear music. I do NOT want to see televisions.
this place has recently changed ownership, and is now rock n roll, heavily featuring metal bands from the local arts college. yeah, the cover is annoying but it's not that bad.
i give this place five stars mostly due to bartender Michael M.'s fantastic original beverage that tastes like an alcoholic Butterfinger shake. IT HAS PEANUT BUTTER IN IT, PEOPLE. i ain't never heard of that before. go ask for the abbazabba, your mind will be blown.
also, the music is either good, or so bad that it's interesting. go there!
How is this place still in business? Can we give less than one star?
They treat the bands like crap, and don't even comp them drinks (not 1 drink!), the stage is absurdly high, the bartenders are rude/douchy, and there is an inescapable foul odor of skunky pot mixed with stale beer and something unidentifiable.
Definitely not a professional establishment. Avoid.
The only reason I came to this place initially was because some friends I know are in a band and played there. It was an enjoyable experience. Crazy busy the night I went and pretty decent atmosphere. I liked the t.v. set up and I didn't get a chance to see the Green room, but from the pictures it seems like a cool area.
Bartender was kind enough to give me a free drink. Don't know why but I appreciated it by tipping the person back well. The general area was decent sized and left more than enough space to move to the beats.
I think I'd have to come back again, stay longer and see the full range of fun this place has to offer.
