This place has wonderful food! I love the saag paneer; it's always thick and creamy. The garlic naan is wonderful.

However, they serve your food in styrofoam to-go boxes. They have four booths in the restaurant and it is incredibly tiny in there. They wrap your food in plastic wrap and bag it if you want to take your food to go.

I love this place and always come back for more.

A great option for delicious and cheap Indian food. Krishna knows exactly what Americans want from Indian food and they completely deliver: large portions filled with creamy gravy, lots of rice, and delicious naan. We can debate the authenticity of Krishna some other time. Whatever it is, it is fantastic.

After reading so many reviews, I was hoping for more. It is a tiny location (I think they do more carry-out vs. dining in business), but we were able to score a booth. The Chicken Tikka Masala was really thin and runny, but the portion was huge. The naan was hot but not very good. While it was cheap (2 orders for less than $20), the food quality wasn't worth it to us.

Oh my gosh! This restaurant is awesome. I have heard good things about this place before but had never tried it. The curry was deliciously spicy and the aloo saag was just the right amount of creamy! I am so excited to find an affordable place for my Indian needs!

This place is definitely a solid choice for cheap, delicious Indian food by UC. It's not really a pleasant place to sit down and hang out in, but just take your food to go and enjoy!

Awesome place for great Indian on the cheap.  I'm a fan of their Chicken Tikka Saag.  Everything is made in front of you so you know it's fresh.  Take out is probably your best option, with only 4 booths, seating can be a little scarce.
Bring your appetite or save half for later, they definitely give you a lot!

Fantastic, fast indian food right next to UC's campus. There are some great places to get Indian food in Cincy, but Krishna remains one of my personal favorites.

It says carry out, but there are about four booths for anyone who wants to eat in, and there are tons of options for vegetarians, which is always a plus in my book. I veered from my typical aloo gobi and went with the saag paneer, which was excellent. I don't have a high tolerance when it comes to spicy foods, and ordering spice level one had just enough kick for me.

I actually left with no leftovers, in true gluttonous Saturday style, but 9 times out of 10, I'll leave with another meal for the next day, making the prices very reasonable for the amount of food.

Pescatarian Rating: 5. Tons of vegetarian options!

Pretty decent Indian Food for being served on styrofoam. Not the best but pretty good. Cincinnati has killer Indian.

Fantastic Indian food! Reasonable prices for the quantity. I had chicken korma and my belle had the lamb saag. Vegetable pakoras and garlic naan rounded out the meal. All very tasty. $25 and we were stuffed with plenty for lunch the next day.
It's pretty simple with styrofoam and plastic, but some of the best Indian in the area.
    Update:
Later that evening, my belle and I were feeling pretty uncomfortably full. I did read another's comment that the food weighed heavy. We only shared the Pakoras, so maybe they were the culprits. I'd give it another try. So good going down though.

My boyfriend told me this place is the greasy spoon of Indian food. It was an apt description. That's not to say the food wasn't delicious, because it definitely was! We shared an order of the Chicken Tikka Saag along with an order of Bhatura and vegetable samosas. We were both stuffed afterward and only spent $14.

We went in to order and even though there were other people waiting, it only took about 10 minutes. The spice level was perfect. I will definitely keep this on my list of fast and cheap Indian places!

This was my go-to(as it is for most college students at UC) for Indian food for a couple of years. That was until Deep India opened, and my business was directed towards them. But this Krishna's restaurant, enough about their rivals!

Krishna is very good. It is definitely a landmark of Clifton and by far the most popular Indian joint, and it is for a reason. The food is very good and the service is very friendly. You will not be disappointed by this place in the slightest, but I just think there is slightly better out there.

My only complaint about Krishna is it sits heavier than other Indian offerings in the area. Tastes just as good, but a little heavy...

Finally tried this place after many an urging from a friend who has traveled the world and is very picky about her ethnic cuisine. As the four stars indicate, I'm a fan. Good flavors, huge portions, and the "medium" spice level was just right. Prices are a little lower than at most dine-in Indian places around here ($8-10 per entree), and I easily made three meals out of my mattar paneer; even if you gorge yourself, you'll probably still have at least one set of leftovers for the next day. The naan is big, well made and not too greasy, which naan can often be.

I definitely wouldn't eat in, as there are only a few tables and the place is not air conditioned, but I already knew that going in, so no worries. This is a great stop for affordable Indian food for a night in. I'll definitely be back.

I used to love this place, but they seemed to have changed their chicken tikka masala recently. It is never as spicy now as it used to be, and it seemed to start when the younger guy who worked the counter left. It's not bad, but no where near as good. Please go back to the old recipe!

I fell in love with Krishna as a UC student. I try to eat Krishna on a bi-weekly basis. They have a great lunch special with an entree and order of nan for 8.95. I love chicken curry and get it as spicy as possible. They do a great job on carryout wrapping the to go box in saran wrap so no mess is created. I just call ahead and place my order and by the time I walk over it's ready to go. It's a hole in the wall but a fun experience if you want to see your food made and check out the clay oven for bread making.

This place is good and all, but I was surprised to see them rated higher than any other Cincinnati Indian Restaurant. They do not have the best Indian food in town or even in the Clifton area. In fact, their food is probably fourth best in the Clifton area, after Ambar, Dushmesh, and Amol.

The flavors are just not quite as complex and there isn't the variety. Their naan is pretty awesome, though.

This was the first Indian restaurant that I've ever eaten at, and I still think it's the best. However, I can only really comment on the Chicken Tikka Masala since it's the only thing I've ever had, but I've never had a reason to deviate!!

The smartest thing you can do is call up, order, and pick up.  If they are a little busy, you'll have to order and wait, and may not even have a place to stand let alone sit while your waiting.  Also, it makes for a great lunch - they have a special for a dish and Nan for about $9, and it's enough for two meals!

I'm glad i got this to go, because if Id eaten there i would have kept on ordering. The place is tiny--youre basically standing in the kitchen while you wait. I was happy to see my meal was made to order.

I scarfed this down in no time, and each bite tasted better than the last. So good. Wish i lived in cincy so i could hit this place hard.

It looks like a hole in the wall, there are only 4 booths and there's a line to the door every day. It's spectacular. Don't get me wrong - it, like every other Indian restaurant in Cincinnati has been heavily westernized - yes most of there dishes rely on an absurd amount of cream and whole milk pseudo-curries. Oh and about the spice - it's 1 to 6. A six hurts, but if you ask them to make it even hotter - they will oblige.   So, if you're looking for Indian food anywhere in the greater clifton area / gaslight district - skip the formal sit down places - experience the uniqueness of Krishna's - and get honestly the best westernized, Indian food around.

It's a bit tricky to locate until you know where it is. Tons of food. Smells a bit of burnt frying oil. Low key. Eat, then pay. seems like a questionable concept in Clifton.

It's a small walk in, counter service style place with basic options in huge portions.

Unfortunately, I am quite familiar with great Indian food, and this place does not measure up. The flavors just aren't there, with an attempt to mask this fact with heat. The heavily creamed "curry" will sit equally heavily on your stomach.

I would say that if you are fighting a hangover, aren't picky about Indian food, want something spicy and fatty, and you can walk here, it might be for you.

This place is a good for carryout. Depending on who is cooking the spice level varies. Most of the time it's really hot so if you are are sensitive then I would go for a low spice level. Try the Chickan Tikka Saag! The place is tiny inside only like 4 tables too.

I've been on a weird Indian food kick recently, meaning I'm looking for hot. Can places around Cincinnati give me hot? Yes, it turns out, they can.

I'd heard of Krishna when I lived in Clifton all those years ago, but never tried it. That was clearly a mistake, as this place is awesome.

They mean it when they call themselves Carry Out. There are four tables in this tiny restaurant and they're cramped and shoved up against the wall (it basically goes tables, little area between tables and counter and then counter to order your food. That's this whole place.) I actually did sit at the table and it was fine, but I can imagine it would have been hell if the place had been crowded.

The food here is what you come for, though, and the food is what you get! Delicious selections of Indian staples (like the tiki chicken masala, which I got and it was amazing and just as spicy as I wanted it) and more foreign items which I'd have to ask what they were due to pure cluelessness. All of them looked delicious thought!

They also have a case full of drinks - no soda fountain here. I'm not even sure where they'd put it if they wanted one.

The place has no atmosphere whatsoever. It's tiny and kind of smells like a mix of Indian food and cleaning supplies. Still, that only kind of adds to it's charm. You're hoping that they forgo atmosphere and, in return, will give you amazing food. You are correct.

Parking can be kind of annoying, since it's in Clifton and you're hit-or-miss on street. Find a meter, throw in a few coins and get that food to go.

I will be back, Krishna - and this time, I'n not staying.

I've tried several Indian spots in the Nati, and this one is tied for #1.  It tastes almost as good as my other fave, but is probably a little healthier due to less heavy cream (if any at all).  Accordingly, I guess that also makes it more authentic.  Anyways, I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was smooth and delicious as I expected.  I told them 5/6 on spiciness but I'm afraid it wasn't very spicy.  The portions are pretty hefty too for the $9 price tag on most dishes.  Why should Clifton get the best Indian joints?  Oh well, it's close enough!  Be aware that it's not the cleanest of places, it looks like a hole in the wall (but somehow that always makes the food taste better), and there's very little seating (see the name, "carry out").

Bottom Line: I'll be back for a quick, delicious #1 Indian in Cincinnati.

My journey to find the best Indian food in Clifton continued yesterday at Krishna's. I was around the Calhoun/McMillan area and decided to stop in to Krishna's - something I'd meant to do so many times in the past 10 months of living in Clifton!

The place is small, but that doesn't matter when it smells so fantastic in there and the man behind the counter greets you with a smile. I grabbed a menu, chose a dish (Chana Masala), happily paid, and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. In just shy of 10 minutes, my food was ready and I was on my way to enjoy it at home.

Comparing it to what I'd considered to be my favorite Indian restaurant in Clifton (Ambar), I was pleased in some ways but not pleased in other ways.

First, the rice. I love me some great basmati rice, but this is where Krishna falls incredibly short. The texture is fine, but what I love about Ambar and other Indian restaurants I've been to (not only in Clifton, but elsewhere) is that they have some peas and bits of lemon zest throughout. At Ambar I can just eat the rice and be happy girl because it is so flavorful and delicious! Krishna's rice was just plain and didn't have much flavor at all. Boooring!

Next, the portions. I think the price at Krishna's is less than that of Ambar or Amol, and if so, the portions are just fine. After what I ate last night, I have about 2 meals worth left. Not bad for $8! I do miss, though, the HUGE amount of delicious rice I get from Ambar...

Now, the star dish. My chana masala was pretty darn good. I got it at a spiciness of 5 (out of 6) and it was at the perfect level for me. It came in a 1/2 quart plastic tub and, as I mentioned already, it was enough for 3 portions. Yum.

Finally, the people of Krishna's. The guy working the counter was great. He greeted me when I arrived and when I asked if there was any cream in the chana masala, he confidently told me, "There is no cream, butter, or dairy in chana masala". A+, dude, A+. I now know I can suggest Krisha's to my vegetarian AND vegan friends!

If I'm on Calhoun and crave Indian, I need not hold my hunger until I can walk to Ambar - I'll eat at Krishna's. However, if I'm at home and have to choose whether to go north to Ambar or south to Krishna's... I'll go north.

This is truly fast-food Indian food albeit it's not really that fast. I've gone to Krishna's a few times when I'm craving Indian food and do not really want to go to a sit down restaurant. The interior is quite small with only a few booths so if you are looking to eat there you might be out of luck. The menu is pretty standard and the prices are pretty decent, especially for how much food you're getting. I usually get an item and it turns into 2 meals, which is always a good thing if you're on a budget.

For the food, the taste is good, not amazing but that's probably a by-product of the cooking process. It seems like all their food tastes very similar. This could be because when I see them cooking (it's a completely open kitchen), I always see them taking a scoop out of 3-4 random boxes of concentrated sauces and then pouring in a ton of cream. Again, this makes food really good so I'm not complaining. The biryani is made the same way, which makes it a little too wet in my opinion.

Overall, if you're starving for Indian, this place is fast (relatively), affordable (2 meals in 1 usually), and tastes pretty good. Just expect the inevitable food coma that will ensue.

I've always enjoyed Krishnas, but because one of our close buddies says he got food poisoning here, we don't eat here as much as I'd like.

Krishna's is comfort Indian food. With half a fridge packed with whole cream, you know you're getting a healthy portion of a high calorie meal. One order is enough to satisfy two people, and if you take leftovers home, you can definitely make it stretch for an extra meal or two by cooking your own rice.

People taking Krishna should tell their companions or lover if they are planning to eat at Krishna or if they have Krishna leftovers in the fridge. People should also tell their employers or coworkers of their intentions to consume Krishna, particularly if there is a history of napping, yawning, hitting the snooze, or missing the bus, or any other indications that the person is prone to sleep anyway.

Krishna causes drowsiness and can cause spontaneous snoring. People taking Krishna should not drive or operate heavy machinery until they know how Krishna will affect them. People should only eat Krishna if they have time for a nap.

In some cases, Krishna has been known to cure insomnia...(WITH ITS DELICIOUSNESS!!!!)

This is the best place I know to get cheap, delicious Indian take-out.

Sure, they only have four tables, and if you sit at them people will constantly stand right next to you while they're waiting for their order to be up. But that's because it's a take-out place. And people come in constantly because the food is amazing.

Where else can you completely stuff four people on top-quality Saag Paneer and Malai Kofta and other goodness for less than $10 a person? Nowhere, that's where.

And did I mention that they have tons of vegetarian options? Because they do. This place is a win, hands down. Unless you want a table, in which case you should probably go elsewhere.

Every time I eat Indian food, I compare it to Krishna. Krishna always wins.

The food is reasonably priced, comes in gigantic portions, and tastes amazing. Emily's favorite is saag paneer with naan. Jimmy's favorite is chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. But everything on the menu is worth trying.

I decided I wanted to rekindle my love for Krishna- it had been a few years since I left Cincy and upon my return, it seemed crazy that I hadn't been back yet.  What I did not know is that since I've been gone, Krishna has gone from a relatively unknown little hidden gem in Clifton to a mad-packed lunch rush.  Maybe I picked the wrong day? After driving in a circle to find street parking, I was cold and oh-so-excited for some Krishna.  To my  dismay, when I walked in, the place was packed!  (It was about 12:30).  But it's a small space so surely the wait for carry-out couldn't be that long, right?  So wrong.  My 30 minute meter ran out and I had to go put more change in, and to top off my ill-fated trip, the $20 I had out to pay fell out of my pocket.  So sad.  The folks next to me had even called ahead and still waited at least 20 minutes to get their order.

The food was still delicious.  I thought my potatoes were slightly undercooked but I didn't care because I know they were working hard to get the orders done and I really couldn't have waited much longer.  My Aloo Saag was exactly the spice level that I wanted it (5 out of 6), and the greatest part about the lunch menu that you can get garlic naan or naan included with the huge lunch portion for no additional cost.  So delicious.  I picked up the Chicken Vindaloo for my husband and of course tasted it- also good.

They haven't changed or expanded at all, which is understandable, since there is literally no space for expansion.  And honestly, the tiny space makes Krishna what it is and is what makes it charming.  So, mostly, I don't want Krishna to do anything different, but it just seems to me that their size and/or staffing makes it impossible for them to reasonably serve a fairly small lunch rush.  And they are Krishna Indian Take Out.  Which is supposed to be quick.  So in the dining experience realm, Krishna is limited and that is unfortunately why I am not going to give it a 5.

    Lessons learned:

    1. Krishna is indeed still delicious and well-priced for the portion size and quality.

    2. You need to have lots of time if you decide to get lunch at Krishna during the lunch rush.  So, if you don't have lots of time, go early or late (way after 1 because by the time I left, it was still pretty busy), or just don't do it.  Or, wait until UC is out and the students aren't crawling all over the campus.

    3. If you see a large band of Asian students ahead of you in line, abort, abort, and come back some other time.  Krishna is tasty but probably not quite worth the long wait.

Best Indian food in the Nati by far!  I've been recommending this place since my friends lived on Roe St in 2001.

You can't go wrong with the Saag Paneer (they actually will make it as spicy as you want regardless of how white you look).  Garlic Naan and samosas are cheap and delicious side items I never miss.

Little Indian place, but big taste!

I love Indian food, and this place is certainly a hole-in-the-wall, you almost feel like you're walking in the back door of some business.

It's some of the best indian food I've ever had, the naan is amazing and its well priced.

It is a little more spicy than most indian places, so be aware when you are ordering a heat. I stay around 3 for a nice even heat.

I used to joke with my coworkers that they slipped a little something extra in the curry to keep you coming back. At the time I was kidding... but now I'm not so sure. I am a Krishna addict.

This is my to-go take-out choice. I've eaten there, but there are only four tables and it's truly a hole-in-the-wall. Best curry I've ever had (even better than what I had in London).

I think they are a little spicier than most Indian places, so if you usually get a "4" - go with a "3".

My favs = curry chicken or chicken tikka masala, garlic naan

Krishnas is awesome! The food is super tasty and great on a poor college student's budget.
They have a rating of 1 to 6 for how hot they'll make your meal, which is nice since you can pick and choose. Personally, I always just get their vegetable samosas and rice (surprisingly, the rice is reeeeeally good just by itself).
The area inside is really small though. Theres about 3 small booths and a skinny little isle up to the cash register. That being said, either only come with a few friends or order out.
I HIGHLY recommend Krishnas for your Indian food cravings.

When I lived in Clifton, I ate here religiously and I still always get it if I'm in the area. The prices are unbeatable. I'm a regular, so they're always excited to see me walk in and know exactly what I order and the spice level. The veggie samosas are a perfect addition to any meal. You can get a dinner for two plus naan and samosas for around $20. A lot of people prefer take out because it's such a small restaurant. A bit of a dive. But, I enjoy eating in and seeing all the different people that come in and enjoy indian as much as I do! Krishna has been around for quite some time and I don't think it's going anywhere.

This would have to be my favorite restaurant in Clifton!  Best food on the block!  The restaurant is located very close to campus and is open until 10:30PM, which usually lets me eat before I go out.  I like to eat in but sometimes when I need to study I call them and leave, by the time I get there (10 min after the call was placed) the food is ready.

My favorite plate is the Chicken Tikka Masala, their spiciness scale ranges from 0 to 6, I usually get 3-4 but it seems to vary, they look at you and decide how spicy you can handle.

Get there for lunch during the week and you get the lunch special, all the same food but with free naan (I think that's what Indians call bread).

The place is really small but I've been able to secure a table most of the time I've been there.

In conclusion, this is my favorite restaurant in Clifton, I cannot live a week without having my weekly dose!

Krishna's is so small you could easily miss it. What initially looks like a side entrance to an apartment building is actually the door way to one of the best hole-in-the-wall (almost literally) Indian restaurants I've been to. An efficient staff behind the counter is used to customers who know what they want, so you might want to go in with a meal in mind; I suggest the usual Saag Paneer or the delicious Aloo Gobi. Takeout is quick as they're used to college students being on the go, and naan and rice are standard on their lunch specials.

If you know what you like when it comes to Indian Krishna will not disappoint.

I found Krishna by accident one day. My friends had taken me out for Indian the night before and I was craving some spicy goodness.

Since the aforementioned locale was miles away from my job, I zoomed over to the UC area to see what I could find.

What I found was a perfect little piece of Bombay in one of the tiniest eateries I've ever been in.

They do have a few benches you can sit down in and watch the magic happen in their open kitchen.

The heaping portions are excellently cooked and you'll never have to worry about having enough rice.

I'm partial to the chicken jalfreizy myself but I've sampled just about everything on their menu.

They even have some vegetarian dishes for you in the vegan set.

Their prices are exceedingly fair as well considering the huge portions you get.

My only complaint -- they could be a bit spicier. I'm sure they're taking the spice down a notch since they're in the Midwest, but if my mouth isn't burning... I'm sure you can finish that as you will.

The boys are quick on the stove too, you'll have your dish up in 10 minutes or less.

All in all, Krishna's got a new dedicated fan for as long as I'm around.

We were going to eat at Myra's Dionysus, but they were closed for a week (labor day holiday).  So, we were driving away trying to think of where else to go and saw Krishna Indian take out.  We'd heard people recommend it, so we stopped in.  It looks like it used to be a Subway restaurant with the large bar/counter and booths on the opposite wall.  You order at the counter and sit back down.  If you want water they give you a styro cup and you pour your own from pitchers in the cooler.  The food comes to you scalding in a styro take out container.  I had paneer makhani, which was creamy and flavorful.  There was enough to save some for lunch the following day, and it was still delicious!  I will eat there again.
