The sign says : "Fort Lauderdale's Largest Upscale Buffett" and that, like the 3 plus star rating, is a bit misleading. If you are looking for large or "upscale" you won't find it here. I haven't been to every buffet in Fort Lauderdale, so I can't say if it's "Fort Lauderdale's Largest". I can say, where Asian buffets are concerned, this one isn't large or "upscale". The "upscale" appears to have more to do with the $12.00 price than the food quality, selection, clientele or ambiance. If you're not a sushi eater or have been to a large Asian buffet, you like me, may find this place disappointing. We were unable get our $12.00 worth, didn't find the available selections particularly appetizing and won't return. If you do like sushi, and many eating here apparently do, it may be worth trying.

For sheer variety of Asian choices, this is a great place to go.  I like the fact that they have both Japanese and Chinese options.  The sushi is good, not great, but certainly better than a lot of places.  The hibachi entrees are fresh and tasty.  The other choices are also solid.  It is pricier than most Asian buffets, but then there are a lot more options.

I'm an Asian buffet fiend, like so many other Americans. Honestly, I love Chinese and Japanese buffet food more than any other kind of food. I crave raw salmon. I have been to Kyojin multiple times. The food is always very good, fresh, and there is plenty of salmon, Dancing Eel, tuna, and salmon roe sushi. My compliments to the sushi chef, but the seaweed salads are also among my favorite delicacies.

The sign by the door self-styles Kyojin as "Fort Lauderdale's premier upscale Japanese buffet." My take on this is that the management has never been to an upscale establishment, because the decor and interior are cheap, tacky, and uninteresting. You go to Kyojin for a good deal on sushi, not because you have class.

The Chinese buffet table is average but satisfying, with tasty, tender beef teriyaki, sweet and sour chicken, egg drop soup, and an artful arrangement of mussels in ice.

Still, every time I have ever dined at Kyojin, there is a perceived problem. It is a certain hostility, a smoldering patronizing attitude of the wait staff. It's more than just the absence of a cheerful smile, it's more like a personal disdain for me. I usually tip accordingly...i.e., $1. I naively hope that gets the message across, but it is a recurring theme at Kyojin. To be fair, I think this superiority complex is common in just about every Asian (usually that means Chinese) buffet I have been to. One time I pointed out to the maître d' (or, just the matron of the restaurant) that there were no crab legs, yet they were advertising a special on crab legs on Wednesday. She disappeared into the kitchen, returned with a steam tray full of crab legs, slammed them down into the buffet table, and said, "There!" with a look that might have felled a lumberjack.

Let me be clear, I am not a rude person in public. I go out of my way to smile and behave as the honored guest at Kyojin (and other eating establishments). Maybe they want to be abused, I don't know. Smiling and saying "please" and "thank you" don't seem to register here.

On this last visit, two Saturdays ago, the first sign that this might become another confrontational event to knot up my GI tract, as I was grazing the sushi bar, the manager followed behind me, picked up a pair of the black plastic sushi tongs that another patron had left in one of the sushi roll trays, and he slammed it back onto the tong tray. It was done in a manner as if he was angry with me, and that he was going to teach me how to properly return the tongs to the tong tray. Look, buddy, I didn't leave the tongs in the sushi, so don't get huffy with me!

A middle aged, and uncharacteristically friendly waitress served me. Because it was so unusual, I left a $5 tip, which, on an $11 dollar tab is not being cheap. I put my $20 in the bill folder, and the waitress said, "I will give it to her," pointing to the somewhat older looking maître d'. So, the maître d' took my money, returned with the change, and then pocketed the five dollar bill I left for the friendly waitress. WTF just happened? This old bat did nothing for me, except take my money. Now she's taking the tip I left  for Kind Lady, too? I left very annoyed. Not with the food, but with the general crappy personalities I put up with to get my raw salmon fix.

Service was great.  However the buffet was horrible.  The selection wasnt much for the price.  The food wasnt good either.  I didnt try the sushi but it did look like they had a TON.  WHO WANTS FREEZING COLD CRAB LEGS? WHO?

You know what you are getting with this buffet.  I have been probably 5 times and its very consistent sushi and cooked foods.  For what you pay for the buffet, its not going to be the best quality fish.  Its not bad fish, by any stretch, but its not the highest quality.  There are so many choices, so if you go, make sure you are hungry.    They have quite a selection of hot, cooked foods, so you don't have to be a sushi fan to enjoy this place.  And they even have a good selection of desserts.

Again, if you want top quality sushi, this is not the place.  if you want a ton of food at a reasonable price, then you should try it.

I really like the good here.  Best bang for you buck at any sushi restaurant.  Dessert sucks, but everything else is good, the staff is nice.  If you can't eat fish due to allergies, no worries, there's plenty of other typical Asian foods.

Well of course this place gets 5 stars!  I love sushi, and chineese...and this place will feed me a literally endless supply of both!

The first thing I need to establish, is that the lunch and dinner here are NOT the same.  Different menu, and price.  Quite simply; dinner is more expensive yet there is more on the menu to choose from.

The sushi is fresh, and NEVER runs out.  As soon as a particular fish, or roll is running low in supply, it's replenished in the blink of an eye.  It's probably the nicest looking buffet place I've ever seen.  Nice decor, friendly service, and the people working the hibachi grill will literally make you whatever you want.  Even stuff that's not featured, just ask and they'll do it for you!

We were recently here for a birthday, and our server had no problem keeping up with our party of 9.  I ate 3 full plates of sushi, plus had some crab leg, tasted an awesome desert, and had a cup of eggdrop soup.  Would've gotten some fried calamari but it looks like they don't have it anymore :-(

I spent about $30 on sake, but that was for several jars, we had a great time and I will be back again and again.

Okay, to start, let me just say that I'm NOT one of those picky-types who are totally adverse to buffet-style restaurants.  I'm an outdoors camping-type, so I'll eat food that I've dropped on the ground if I'm hungry!  (Just call me a Neanderthal....)  Anyway, this is definitely buffet dining, where people are walking around the various food items picking and poking and doing whatever it is you do when trying to decide what to choose.  Kyojin was highly-recommended by some neighbors of ours, so we took my brother and a friend to try this place out.  Kyojin has a very clean and pleasant-looking interior -- several steps above, say, a buffet-place like Sweet Tomatoes or Golden Corral (but nowhere near the fun time watching the characters here!).  The rows of food items -- one row of hot foods; one row of cold stuff and desserts; one long counter of salad items and a myriad of sushis; grill for made-right-then type foods -- were all very clean and well-appointed.  This is an eat-all-you-want bonanza for sushi and Asian food lovers!  I tried a bit of everything, and all were extremely tasty and fresh.  The variety of sushi was fantastic!  They even had escolar sashimi, which is rare to find!  (Escolar and Chilean sea bass are probably my favorite fish meals.)  Tuna was fresh; yellow-belly was fresh; the sliced octopus was fresh; whole, pickled baby octopi was fresh; the rice was firm and tasty.  It was like manna from the sushi gods!  (Seriously!)  The hot food items were split between Japanese and Chinese food items.  Pork wonton soup was excellent; wontons were firm and moist and fully-cooked through; meat was tasty and fresh.  The fried wontons were also pretty darn tasty, as well -- I think I had a dozen!  (Just call me Buddha-belly!)  There's too many individual items to talk about in this review; but, I'll just say that nothing disappointed.  The amiable waitress kept our waters and sodas filled, and removed finished plates like clockwork.  I didn't try the large variety of desserts -- I was WAY too stuffed to put anything else into my stomach! -- but everyone else were ooh-ing and ahh-ing over their respective dessert plates.  Next time, I'll keep some room open to try some....  I highly recommend Kyojin Buffet if you've got an insatiable appetite for sushi and Asian foods....  :D  [By the way, the bill for four people came out to just over $80.  It was well-worth it...!]

What a great place.  No non-sense decor, but a very good selection of very fresh sushi and sashimi, loved the baby octopus. After the sushi and sashimi bar, I moved on to the Chinese foods.  The ribs, pot stickers, tempura shrimp, volcano shrimp, sesame chicken, grilled pork chops, and ........ Too many to name.  Next came the deserts, I only had the cheese cake and coffee pettifors, no complaints here.  All you can eat on a Tuesday night for $16, can't beat it.  I will be back soon.

Pretty good for a sushi buffet. Love the fact that they have sushi and sashimi I didn't hit up the hibachi ,  I never seem too at these places for some reason. Try the tempura calamari...deeeeelish!

Kyojin buffet is a sub-par Chinese buffet with some sushi on the side. Nearly every other Asian buffet that I have been to had a larger variety and higher quality food. I would not recommend this buffet.

The restaurant was quiet when we arrived at 6pm for dinner. The décor was fine for a buffet. The bathroom was clean and appeared to be well maintained.

The food was where the buffet fell short. There were 3 choices for meats in the hot portion of the buffet, sesame chicken, beef with assorted vegetables, and some bone dry pork. The pork was charred in the way that it was overcooked and burnt, not just charred for some smoky flavor. The beef with vegetables was cut too thick and way too tough. The sesame chicken was like that of a takeout restaurant with heavy and thick breading with an overpoweringly sweet sauce. The vegetables in the hot section were terribly overcooked and brown. The sushi was really where this place went wrong. At first glance it is beautiful, but at second glance you wonder how the raw fish is actually being kept cold while sitting on the counter. There are no vents or any evidence of cold air hitting the fish from an angle that would keep the sushi at a food safe temperature. Upon tasting the tuna sushi roll this was evident as the fish was at room temperature and not anywhere near cold. All of their rolls had cream cheese in them. Cream cheese is fine if only a few of the sushi have it, but in every roll? The deserts were cloyingly sweet and few in choices just like the hot food. They had green tea ice cream, but there were weird chunks of frozen bits inside of the ice cream, showing that the ice cream is either old or was not properly frozen at one point in time.

The service at Kyojin buffet was your standard buffet service; just to refill water. One in our party did ask for a glass of hot water, but never received it. I talked to a manager over the phone about my complaints and he denied everything and was angry and rude from start to finish despite me keeping a cool and level tone.

The cost of dinner buffet was 16.95 and after tax it was marked $18. Considering that most of the food was inedible and some dinner buffets that I have been to that has more variety and snow crab legs had a lower price, this was a terrible waste of money. For the record, I tipped a full 15% of my bill (yes I know its 20% at night, but this is a buffet).

Overall, the buffet was terrible and cost wise it was also an unfortunate waste of money.

I have been going to Kyojin since they opened.   I always bring out of town guests as well as locals.  I even had my 50th b'day gathering there.  I haven't found anyone who can beat the value and quality for the money.

As with most places here this was my 1st visit as were the three friends in our group, celebrating Alex's birthday.  Seating area is much nicer than  traditional (i.e. budget) buffet.  So many sushi options it was hard to pick a few (so I didn't)

With WIDE eyes at a well stocked buffet area I tried a little of each and all but the ribs were all to my high expectations

Hibbachi grill could have used a little more explanation though.  The chef seemed to be VERY focused on only two dishes at a time he missed 1/2 of my request

Service: exclent with our server being very attentive, glasses were refilled right on time

Sure I'll go back and try what I missed

With a craving for sushi, I was pleased when my Yelp app pointed me to a sushi buffet with good reviews. And they were right. A good selection of fresh sashimi and rolls that was updated often and did not seem to sit still for long. I skipped over the Chinese steam table and simply loaded up on some great salmon, eel, masago and tamago. Unusual to see pickled mackerel on a buffet table, I grabbed a whole bunch of these deliciously tart bits of fish.

Price was a great deal - $12 with a constantly refilled glass of water. No wifi, but that's okay.

All I can say is... don't hesitate. You need to be eating here. Now!

Kyojin, while pricier than the typical oriental buffet, is worth the increased price and shows it in the quality of it's food. All you can eat sushi, buffet, dessert, hibachi (made to order), and more recently a chocolate fountain with some goodies to use with it. So if you want to stuff your face with tons of sushi or just anything of the sort I would definitely go here. The service is great and you almost never have an empty cup or more than a finished plate or two. While the sushi may not be the highest quality, it is all you can eat.

I've gone here for the lunch buffet during the work week and it's only $10.95. Just try it out! You won't be disappointed!

It's an outstanding value, and you can go japanese/sushi/chinese/mongolian and all of them are pretty high quality.  Service is good too.  No, it's not the greatest sushi ever, but it's fresh.

It's really hard to criticize this place, so I won't try.  I've been lucky enough to go when it isn't too crowded.

I love sushi and I came here because I had never been to a sushi buffet before. What the hell was I thinking?

First of all; Sushi is not a food of which should be created in large quantities. Yes I know they made the rolls on site as they run out but still....it was obvious that some corners were cut.

The sushi rice tasted just like sushi rice from sushi you can get at the grocery store. I am embarrassed to say I even know what that tastes like.

I was sitting at my table watching the people up at the buffet picking through the sushi, some people were smelling items, and what grossed me out the most was the ice cream station! Do you how many arms and fingers are in that thing a day? Hairy arms, dirty arms...... Can you imagine what types of things are lurking in there?

And I am not a germa-phobe but damn I thought it was a little gross. Later on that night I felt kind of gross from the sushi as well, or maybe just because I was thinking about that ice cream station.

The service was good though. Your typical buffet service. Bottomless soda/tea.

I appreciate what they are trying to do here. This is kind of a good place to take someone for their first taste of sushi to kind of break them in.

I've been going here for years and typically have nothing but good things to say about this place but this last visit make me believe that the food is going downhill. We went on a Monday night and everything seemed old and rank...this is not good when it comes to raw sushi. I usually love their selection of rolls but none of them looked intriguing and a majority seemed to be fried as opposed to fresh. I usually go up for three plates of sushi with a side of hibachi but this time around I got two plates and couldn't even finish the second one. Then I went to the hot buffet bar which I rarely get anything from and was disappointed with the chicken--sesame and sweet and sour--both were as hard as bricks. The shrimp tempura however knocked my socks off as well as the miso soup.

I'm still sticking with three stars due to my history with this place and service I've had. I think I'm going to give Kyojin one more shot when I'm in town and if it's anything like this last experience, sayonara!

If you like sushi, plenty of it and a terrific value to boot, this is the place. The sushi is the freshest in town and there are all sorts and varieties of it. You find anything from the baby octopus to the eel. It's a buffet, Japanese, so eat all you want.

The service, for a buffet, is outstanding and the place is, unlike majority of the Chinese buffets common to the Lauderdale area, kept clean and orderly with most every part of the operation being in plain sight.

The lunch version of the buffet isn't as big as the evening version, which is pricier, but at either sitting, the value of what you get for your money is the reason this place gets my FIVE star rating.

I've gone to Kyojin several times this year and it has never failed to please.  For a buffet it's rather upscale.  It may not be a Morton's, but you wouldn't feel bad taking a date here (then again I'm not sure what signals you're sending by taking a girl to a buffet).

The variety of food is extensive.  You have a huge sushi bar manned by several chefs constantly churning out fresh, new sushi.  Then you have a Mongolian BBQ station for people who're into watching others cook their food.  Finally you have a large spread of assorted hot dishes, cold dishes and desserts.  I doubt anyone could come here and not find something to eat.

If you have a sushi craving this is the place to go.  You'll find plenty to tickle your palate and they have REALLY big bottles of sake.

For lunch, you will get good value for what you pay at this restaurant. All you can eat includes food off the hibachi grill and sushi. SIGN ME UP!

Service here is quick and fast. You order your drink, you get up for food and before you know it... BAM! your drink is sitting for you when you get back. They are ninjaesque.

On to the food, the buffet is solid. I am not really for the buffet. I take advantage of the hibachi primarily and one or two sushi rolls. i enjoy the hibachi, the cook does his job well, but he is always giving you that look "you better tip me". I gladly oblige because I return at least twice there.

The sushi is eh. I have experienced way better. The freshness is just middle of the road and some of their experiments are big misses.

For lunch this place is a great deal.

I've been here close to 6 times.  A friend loves this place but he is big eater and as cheap as they come.

I am not a fan and although I have tried various types of sushi it all taste the same.  I mean the fish just has a fishy taste.  I can't distinguish one type of fish.  At these prices I understand they can't afford sushi grade fish.

I rather drop a few more bucks and enjoy great tasting food.

    Great sushi for a buffet.

This is not a knock-em-dead sushi restaurant, but then again you are not paying $60 to $130 a plate.

For the money it's a great value and all the sushi was fresh and of good quality.  Very good value.

I've been driving by this place for a while and it always looks packed.  Decided to give it a go and went with the husband a few nights ago.  Verdict:  major hit-and-miss.

    Pluses:
-- Tempura:  nicely breaded and amazingly crunchy after sitting in under the warming lights.
-- Basic sushi:  the simple, cold sushi dishes were pretty good.  Nothing steller, but solid basic sushi

    Minuses:
-- The hot sushi rolls.  Easily THE MOST disgusting sushi I have ever eaten.  The rolls that are supposedly "tempura battered" are in actuality coated with a dense, slightly chewy and cardboardy breading not unlike stale Shake-n-Bake.  Gross.  A lot of the other hot rolls have similar breading or a serious off taste.
-- The hot dishes from the buffet are bland and disappointing as well... nothing really stood out.

Happy to have tried Kyojin, but we wont be going back.

So anyone who goes to a buffet expecting the best, highest quality food ever is in for a world of disappointment. That being said, the food here is damned good!

In addition to the food being good, the selection is huge and it is priced very reasonably. We went for lunch and I believe it was $9.95 per person. That was ridiculously cheap considering how good it was.

There was a large sushi line, all of which was fresh and tasty, encompassing a wide variety of tastes. There was definitely something for everyone. Not only the hard core sushi fan, but also the timid diner will find stuff they like. At the end of the sushi line was a stir fry section where they make food to order. In addition, there is a hot line with Chinese and Japanese selections. Oh yeah, there was a dessert section too!

Like any buffet, there are some items that are better than others, but Kyojin seems to have considerably more good than bad. I was there with a group of 8 people and everyone left very full and very happy!

I was only in Fort Lauderdale for one day, but if I ever go back I will definitely make a return trip to Kyojin. If you live in the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood area and haven't been to Kyojin yet what are you waiting for?!?!

Anybody who doesn't like Kyojin can go swallow their own bath water. Kyojin is great, a quality sushi buffet that you will both enjoy and not wonder whether the stuff will come flying out of you later like a shotgun shell.

The key is to go here for lunch. Same great buffet, for half the price. Me and my girlfriend usually get here about once a week for lunch and we haven't regretted it since. The habachi grill is excellent as well if you are in the mood.

Kyojin was suprisingly good for a sushi buffet, which isn't the greatest praise of all time, I'll admit.  I went with the fam to the dinner buffet, which is more expensive than lunch, but I think there's a bigger selection of choices.  Easily enough sushi to fill up on without trying all of them, a hibachi grill which makes food to order, some dessert, and an almost embarassingly small chinese selection.  But whatever, if you wanted china buffet you'd have gone there.  Also, it's got the standard jello and green tea iced cream that ends a buffet in the tastiest way possible.

Also, my sister ordered a glass of wine that ended up being terrible.  The waiter was nice enough to take it off the bill, so, yay buffet waiter!

A co-worker mentioned this place to me because we both share a liking of sushi dishes. And ever since he mentioned their all you can eat sushi buffet, I was certainly interested.

One thing's for sure: For a $10 lunch buffet this place is pretty darn solid.  They have a good amount of different sushi rolls but only had salmon sashimi  (on the day I went) which I'm guessing is because it was just a lunch buffet.

I didn't get to try any of the other dishes - I mainly came here for the sushi. But, I would definitely come back here to see their dinner offerings and to really dig in. (Can't really go too crazy during lunch, a food-induced crash would be too likely to happen back at work)

UPSCALE? Crab Legs? Buffet? I am there! We walk in and it was sooooooooooo NOT upscale but hey that's ok because I wasn't dressed up anyway. Crab Legs.........cold and tasteless. YUCK! Buffet was not very good at all. The sushi was just slightly better but that definitely does not say much considering good sushi is pretty much non-existent in Fort Lauderdale it seems. This place was definitely not worth it.

I love this place!  Kyojin may not be the most upscale sushi restaurant in town, but you certainly do get your monies worth.  You can't beat this place for their all you can eat sushi, sashimi, hibachi and Chinese.  They are a little light on the Chinese, but that's not their focus.

Prices are about $12 for lunch and $20 for dinner per person.  Quality is extremely good for an all you can eat place.  I go every week and have never been disappointed.

Not the best Japanese food but an excellent value for the money.
Whenever I am in Fort Lauderdale and want lunch, Kyojin is one of my favorite places to go.  The sushi is prepared in advance and could be a little fresher but there are so many varieties on the menu!  I especially love Dragon Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll.  If I am not in the mood for sushi, I can always go to the grill to order a stir fry.  The only thing I didn't really care for was the watered-down, bland Miso Soup.

Definitely not the best sushi in Fort Lauderdale. The words best sushi and sushi buffet NEVER go in the same sentence, except for reviewing purposes :)

I would go to this restaurant again if I was really drunk and some I really didn't know was having a birthday party there and I didn't check where the party was supposed to be held.

    On a real note:

    1. The sushi is not fresh
    2. The buffet line is ridiculous

    Enough said...

It's great for what it is - a sushi buffet.  There is more seafood & selection at dinner, when it's more expensive.  But it's a steal for quick sushi for lunch...$10 for all that and some hot food.  My favorite hot food is the hibachi guy...who will cook up some stir-fried squid, beef, etc. for you with various vegetables of your choosing...or the steamed fish with spring onions in broth.

It's much cheaper than most sushi buffets I've seen (including that big California chain Todai) and a bit better quality.  There are some hybrid Latin rolls on the buffet that include sweet plantain too (I believe it's paired with unagi).  I like it when they have the sushi bomb - a plastic shot glass filled to the top with layers of different roe.

However, even though I didn't gorge myself on the last couple of times I went, I felt a bit sick afterward.   It's not as good as when I first went to it a few years back.

If you want quality over quantity nearby, try Wasabi Cafe on Commercial.
