Latona Pub is one of those friendly neighborhood bars that is super busy between 5 and 7 on a weeknight but also super chill late on a weekend night when you want to go out but not *out*. They have live jazz on Fridays around 5-7pm (I forget exactly when), making it a great place to stop by after a long week.

The food is really good - not typical greasy bar food - and has plenty of healthy options.   (In fact, they don't even have a fryer, so if you're craving fries, you'll want to go elsewhere.) We frequently come here for dinner, even if we're not aiming for a bar. The tomato soup is amazing - pair it with the duck confit salad and you'll be pleasantly full of noms. Latona steamers, hummus plate, and chicken sandwiches are also great.

As far as beer selection goes, they always have a large rotating tap list with a wide variety of beers written on chalkboards above the bar. The servers are knowledgeable and can recommend a beer based on my (limited) taste in beers.

All in all, Latona pub is awesome to have just down the street from my place, and it's one of the top places in the Greenlake area!

One of those loud, cramped places that is TOTALLY worth it.

    Great food.

Their hummus plate is amazing. Their cheese plate is amazing. (Came with honey and some apricot spread thing).

Tacos were good - not great - but my wife got the grilled chicken sandwich and... well, I wish I got that instead! So delicious. (Fontina cheese - can't go wrong).

    Recommend.

(Parking is pretty convenient in this area too, and free).

What's to say that hasn't been said before? The meatloaf was the goods, the beer selection was great. The only issue and it was minor was the mac and cheese was a bit runny last time we were there. the taste was spot on and the bread they served with the mac juice made for a kicking taste explosion....

I really like this place. The food is really good (and large-sized) for city pub food, the service is friendly and the beer selection is really excellent and reasonably priced.
I've tried the burger and the meatloaf in separate trips, and both were quite good. The prices are a little high but they do use high-quality ingredients (natural beef) so that's part of it.
If I lived in Greenlake, I would probably be a regular.

I have been coming here for at least ten years - the service, the food and the beer are all first-rate. This is the only place I eat a burger anymore. Potato bun, check. Tasty chipotle mayo, check. High-quality beef, check. It's the same for their version of a club sandwich. Great dressing on the house salad. Other standouts include the Southwest salad, the meatloaf, and the cheese and olive plate.
I still mourn the loss of the Thai chicken salad - it was soooo good. I understand it was a lot of labor. I would pay more for it. :)

Beautiful high windows and lots of bright wood everywhere.

Thank you Latona People, for keeping a great thing great.

A friend and I ventured into the Latona Pub one Sunday afternoon in search of a place we could enjoy some appetizers in a chill and effortless atmosphere and were not disappointed.

We were met with great service and a decent food menu (although not a ton of small plate options...it did have some great entrée options, though!).  We shared a hummus plate which included olives, garlic, red peppers and cucumbers and I enjoyed some pretty delicious red wine.

All around us was some random but equally awesome décor.  Where else might you find an armor suit and a hand-stitched "Thank you for not smoking" sign?  I am not sure there is anywhere outside the Latona Pub, but it's probably better if it stays that way.

I went with a  friend last week. I only live a few blocks away but had never been before. From beer selection to their menu I was truly impressed. I enjoyed a delicious cider and one of the best burgers I've ever had. The staff was outstanding. While packed, our waiter was always on top of our requests.  My friend seemed just as happy with his meatloaf! I will definitely go back.

After Circa in West Seattle, this is probably my favorite restaurant in Seattle.

The atmosphere in Latona Pub is awesome. Warm, cozy, usually lots of people there.

Also, the black bean burger is the best veggie burger I've had in Seattle. Consistently awesome food.

Latona Pub is the kind of all-purpose restaurant you really want in your neighborhood.  It's a cool pub with a great bar and a solid, simple menu.  Michael K. suggested it as a dinner/drinks spot one night when we weren't sure who was free or whether we'd even need to eat.  I'd imagine it would serve as an easy default for any gathering in this part of town.

Mike and I met Ashleigh B. at the bar and moved to a table as soon as one opened up.  The place was busy on a Saturday night, but not crowded or unmanageable.  Service was good, and the meal was pleasant and easy.

The beer selection was extensive and enticing, and we had a round with our dinner.  We tried the Black Raven Trickster IPA, the Green Flash Hop Head Red, and the Diamond Knot Brenlin's Bravo.  I liked all three, though the IPA was my favorite.  I hadn't tried any of them before.

Mike and I had already eaten a small first dinner, so we just shared a grilled chicken sandwich and split a duck confit salad three ways with Ash.  I was surprised at how good the food was - it was certainly a lot better than it had to be, considering the focus on beer.  I kind of thought the kitchen was there in case anyone got hungry, but the food at Latona is apparently very good.  The grilled chicken sandwich was fantastic, with juicy, flavorful chicken and lettuce, tomato, peppers, caramelized onions, fontina cheese, and garlic aioli.  It must be hard to get chicken sandwiches to taste like that, because they so rarely do.  The Sonoma County duck confit was also great, a full leg of duck over mixed greens tossed with roasted beets, toasted pecans, Humboldt Fog, chevre, and a cranberry fig dressing. The salad alone was fantastic, with creamy, delicious cheese and earthy beets.  The duck made the dish worthy of a whole, wonderful meal - it was very tender, falling off the bone, with a lot of rich, meaty flavor.

I went in expecting a pretty basic filler meal, but Latona Pub gave us great beer and top notch food.  If I lived in Seattle I'd come back often.

I just call this "the pub". It's the spot. Always three great IPAs on tap. Best burger in Seattle. Live music sometimes. Small place with great food and beer in a cool spot. This is a Seattle landmark.

I don't get the hype. It was good. Waited 15 minutes for our beer and then when the male waiter came over  to take our order again and I told him that we already ordered. He said "oh, I'll make sure you actually get this time". That does not bode well for service to come. It was a little overpriced and the waitstaff was not friendly, or speedy enough. If you don't want the long wait at Greenlake Bar and Grill on a sunny day down by the lake then come here but I certainly won't go out of my way again.

Lets say...we went during rush hour...5-530pm.  It was busy in there.  Small place but great staff.  They told us it'd be a little wait and the three of us who went said no problem.

Ordered the Hummus, quesadillas, i don't remember which sandwich, mac/cheese, and meatloaf.  I had the meatloaf and it was delicious.  Very large serving.  I was not able to get a second Black Diamond Hefe in me.  Though I really wanted one.  My friends also enjoyed their meals and the appetizers we at were great too.  Careful they come out piping hot so i ended up burning the roof of my mouth with a bunch of cheese...but it was worth it.  The crowd didn't stop coming either.  It continued to get busy but that's good for business!!!

Came in on a lovely casual Sunday afternoon, a few other groups were there, not hard to find a seat at all. The server was so nice and let us sample different beers and we each found one we loved. We also got a red wine we loved so much we drove to Wine World right afterwards to buy a bottle. The Mac and cheese was great, as was the grinder.

My god. I love this place! Dont' let the old wooden tables fool you. This has some of the best food around. The sandwiches and salads are amazing. The tomator soup is perfect and they have so many good local beers on tap. If you are anywhere around Greenlake, this has to be a stop for you for lunch, dinner, or just a beer.

Haven't tried the happy hour, but the deals look great. The burger is pretty damn tasty with a homemade, almost flatbread-like bun. I'm really looking forward to giving the famous grilled cheese a shot next time.

Show up early! This place gets packed very quickly, even moreso when a band is jamming.

Being new to the greenlake area, I followed these yelp reviews and decided to check out Latona Pub. When we first walked in and were wanting a table, we were a little confused as to what we were supposed to do. Maybe grab a table when someone stands up? Nope, there's a list.

Once we sat down after a very short wait, and after a friendly staff member offered and brought us drinks while we were standing and waiting, we were ready for food. I ordered the black bean burger, and my friends ordered a classic cheeseburger and the clams/mussells mix. Everything was delicious!! My burger was absolutely amazing, and had a little bit of a kick to it. The burgers came with a salad on the side that had a great dressing, was light and delicious. Although my friend with the clams/mussells tends to not do gluten, she couldn't resist the tasty looking bread to dip into the sauce.

Overall, everything was delicious! I've been there once since then for drinks, but we were drooling over the food that came out of the kitchen. I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu!

Hey, I really like this place! The waitress is adorable (if you tell me that's not a selling point, you lie) and nice, she remembered me and my friend a whole week later. Maybe two weeks. The beer is great and it's awesome there's a full bar for any last minute bad decisions you want to make (just kidding). The cheese plate is amazeballs, and super reasonably priced for the portions--- $8 for a small, $13 for full. Comes with three cheeses that rotate and two or three different types of baguette sliced up, some apples, almonds, pickled something, and honey.

Last time we went we got the pork belly which was super ridiculously tender and awesome and a really much bigger portion than expected for $8. All of our beers were $5 each, I wish I could remember the name of it but it was an IPA with really good flavor.

Next time I come in, I'm trying their tomato bisque because, come on. Soup.

Latona Pub has a special place in my heart, though I'm not sure why, because I haven't had any special experiences there or anything!  I think it's the window walls that get me.  I'm a sucker for tall glass walls.

Though there isn't much nearby, it's in a really great location a street or two away from Green Lake.  It draws a very mixed crowd -- university students and professionals alike, young and not-so-young, from all sectors.  The beer selection is fun, and the service (in my experience, at least) has always been attentive.

I've arrived at pretty decent times that weren't so busy but have stuck around long enough to see that it gets pretty packed.  You'll have to fight for seating beyond a certain point.  ;)

Don't let the location and the appearance fool you. This place serves some yummy gourmet bar food!

The space is small so it can get busy during the weekends, so expect to wait. I wouldn't recommend coming here in large groups. My bf and I came here around dinner time and we ended up waiting for about 45 minutes! We just waited by a bar next door for a table to open.

I've tried both the portobello mushroom sandwich and a bite of the grilled cheese, and they were both surprisingly flavorful. Last time I had one of their soup specials that had a potato base with bits of bacon in it, and it was very tasty. I ordered it with a salad mix that came with apple pieces, candied walnuts and blue cheese. Loved it! The tomato bisque soup also pairs well with the grilled cheese sandwich. They also have happy hour with lots of beers on tap.

According to their calendar, they play happy hour jazz every Friday from 5-7pm. I will definitely have to come back here to check that out!

This is great small pub in the Greenlake area. The food is good, think upscale bar food. They have a wide variety of taps with great beer. It's definitely small, so it might be hard to get seats for more than a party of 4.

It's usually crowded, but that's because so many people love it!

Maybe the best burger in town!  At least a full 1/2 pound of fresh hamburger meat locally sourced, great meaty flavor on a hard bun.  Comes with a healthy salad and I find it very filling and satisfying.   Already have been back twice in a single week ordering the same thing.  So, it must be good.

Check out my attached photo for the prove!

    - Locale Destination -
It's on Latona Ave and 65th St in NE Seattle. (Green Lake)

I'm not sure about "Seattle Hipster Bar" - I'm from OC, CA. I don't know about Seattle. This IS NOT a hipster bar for me. This is more like the "nice and cozy pub to hangout with your friends". Totally casual and chilled. Bunch of small tables, which are great for getting comfy and catching up with your friends. Nice little outside seating area. They got a TV - for your game!

Many people complained about the staff. They were friendly to me.

    - Gluttony Expedition -
FYI: $.25 to taste a beer. It was only a few sips. I'm just saying..
They also have wine (red, white, port etc.) and desserts. Check out the board!

Ale- Liance IPA : It got a bitterness but no body - watery. Meh.

25 th anniv Latona IPA : Nice bitterness. Medium body. Smooth. Good. Better than Ale-Liance IPA !

Sierra southern harvest : Smooth bitterness with a good body and floral nose. Good!

Portobello sandwich: Mushrooms were like a steak - meaty, juicy and flavorful. Goat cheese was a great accent. Nicely toasted buns. Great dish! It comes with a simple green salad.

    - Conqueror's Deduction -
This place is cozy and great! Good beers and good food unexpectedly.
Food got a quality and a reasonable price. Definitely I'll come back!

This is a two-sided review. On one hand, its a totally cute place -- the epitome of "Seattle Hipster Bar" and the food we had was great. Impressive meatloaf, spicy, cumin-ey BBQ pork sandwich, and a nice selection of beer. Bonus: the bun the BBQ pork sandwich came on was AMAZING. However, the overall attitude of everyone who worked there really brought the mood down. Everyone in this place seem to straddle the line between "do we work at a bar or a restaurant?" and no one looks happy.

Early on Friday night this place was packed and standing room only in the two feet of space in the walkway by the bar. The band was packing up and leaving (it was like 7:00? Ok...) so most of the tables weren't available in one corner. I would say standard bar protocol is to jump on a table once someone gets up but this is where this place really has mixed personalities as we quickly were yelled at that "there is a wait list" to sit down. Whatever.

We were eventually seated after being on the "wait list" for a while, and had a good time from then on, but hopefully this serves as a warning that this isn't the kind of place to go sit and have a casual drink with friends. You're either seated like a restaurant or standing in two feet of space by the door.

Meh/just OK overall, but I would probably be back on a weeknight or for a hearty lunch, I guess.

Oh, and one more thing: what's with the unnecessary TV? Honestly, there are some bars that just don't need to trash it up with ESPN playing all day and this is one of them.

This is a beer drinker's bar.
They have a great rotating tap list that is well curated (yes, so well done it deserves association with a museum). They seem to have tight relationships with the brewers and their staff is totally knowledgable of the stuff they serve.
The food is also great. Simple and comfortable but seriously well done (kind of like the beer they serve).
My only complaint, it could be twice the size and still feel cozy.

A craft beer lover's home away from home since way back in the day. This place has been serving craft beer since there were only a couple dozen microbreweries in the whole country. Back then, four of those couple dozen micros were right here in Washington: Hale's, Redhook, Pyramid, and Grant's (R.I.P., Herbert). Along with the original Red Door and Cooper's, the Latona poured their kegs and slowly turned drinkers of fizzy yellow industrial alco-pop into people who enjoyed the real thing, brewed locally from fresh ingredients intended for brewing.

Today, guess what the Latona does? Pours craft from all over, still. They have a little kitchen next to the bar, little tables next to each other, and little stacks of empty kegs next to the bathrooms. Not much has changed. Maybe nothing. Except for the fact that there are bartenders in this town who weren't born when the Latona opened its doors. And there are now over 2,000 craft breweries in the U.S. That's an increase of over 10,000%. The Latona seems intent on offering a faucet to as many of them as possible. They had locals, west coast beers, nationals, and imports pouring last night.

What they didn't have was the clam and mussel appetizer, which is a bummer, because it's always a great dish. But it got me down to Plan B, which was the cheese plate, which turned out to be pretty spectacular--nuts, honey, apple slices, fruit relish, three cheeses, and the softest, freshest bread you can imagine. Very filling, very flavorful, reasonably priced.

The place is spotlessly clean, and full of the character that only comes from sticking with a neighborhood and a philosophy for more than a generation. The staff is friendly and cool; they know how to make everybody feel welcome and put smiles on faces. There's a piano in the corner, and a well-thumbed copy of today's New York Times at the end of the bar if you're lucky. It's a proper place to bend an elbow. I'm so grateful it's here.

Food and beer win.  Big win.

The only real disappointment for me was the comfort of the seating, but frankly that would never be a reason for me to justify not going to a place with such an awesome assortment of food and drinks.  The beer list was awesome and I was really happy to see (and consume) Mama's Lil Yellow Pils from a keg as opposed to the can we're all used to experiencing.  I had another IPA which I can't recall the name of but it was great as well.

The menu itself is daunting, which I'm starting to get used to with Seattle bars/pubs.  In Tacoma, I had grown fairly used to order pizza/nachos/wings etc off of a bar menu, and now suddenly I have been thrust into a world where I can have delicous sandwiches, anti pasto plates, pastas and other ridiculousness while enjoying my beers or skinny bishes(vodka diets - yeah, i know).  Anyways, the cheese tortellini was a daily special and it was fantastic, indulgent, and massive.  Perfectly cooked too, not a chewy bite in the mix, and the garlic cream sauce was good.  In the end, it was straight up too much food, but that is by no means a complaint.  I left stuffed and made it a whole hour before I was ready to eat again, which is big if you know me.

With it's great location right - which happens to be a short walk from my friends' place, I foresee this becoming a regular stop for me.  I also imagine that a quickly spawning love affair will turn that 4 star into a 5 much sooner than later!

I am obsessed with Latona. The food is AWESOME, the ambiance is just right, the service is great, it's easy to find parking, and they have a constantly rotating tap with interesting local beers.

Seriously, I ask my bf at least once a week if we can go. I haven't had a thing on the menu I wouldn't order again and again, and it's just so easy and comfortable. Can you tell I love Latona? It can get really busy, but I can't really complain. It feels like a real pub. So sidle up the bar, chat with the others waiting for a table, and get cozy.

On the day that I went, their beer selection looked nice and local... but, sadly all of it was too dark for my tastes. To be fair, I enjoy wheat beers the best... so it's rather easy to go "too dark for my tastes."

On that day their selection included Immersion Amber (by Two Beers Brewery) and the Pike Dry Wit (by Pike Pub & Brewery).

Their menu appears to have some very appetizing options, but we were feeling peckish and ended up sharing a couple of appetizers (hummus and the cured meat plate) and not going for any entrees. Those were good but not amazing. I think their other menu items (especially: Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Tomato Basil Bisque, Chicken Pot Pie, Oregon Country Meatloaf, Cider Cured Pork Chop, Portobello Sandwich) sound a lot more promising!

Oh and I love that they use bread from Columbia City Bakery!

I got a roasted turkey sandwich, not because I thought it would be good - turkey sandwiches are usually pretty bland - but because it was late, I was walking home and I wanted something to eat that wasn't full of saturated fat.

Shock of shocks!  It was amazing!  Great flavor came from pine nut cranberry agrodolce and rosemary aioli, with really great turkey.  Also, I fully expected the ciabatta it was on to be hideously tough, as most ciabatta are - but it was limited at 'pleasantly chewy'.

Their beers on tap rotate every few days.  They didn't have Mac & Jack's and they're not going to have it, which was a surprise to me, since it's my local favorite.  The bartender said it was because everyone has it and so they prefer to carry other local ambers.  He gave me a shot of the Maritime Maybock, which was really cool of him, but it wasn't as good as Mac & Jack's.

So, I'm a fan.  The cheese plate also looks like it could be good.  I'll be back to check it out.

Even though I live down the street from the Latona Pub, I had never been before last night. Something about there only being like 10 tables intimidates me - I hate walking in feeling like I'm intruding on a dinner party. My husband finally convinced me to go last night. There wasn't a place to sit, but the staff was very friendly - they immediately came by, tried to figure out a seating arrangement for us, and when we decided to wait for a bigger table, they took our drink order so we'd have a beverage while we waited. I immediately felt very welcome.

We sit down and the first thing I notice is that menu is small, and everything comes with a salad instead of fries. Salad with beer, really? I was skeptical. Then I ordered the chicken sandwich and washed it down with a stout and oh mama, I was in heaven. This chicken sandwich has pesto mayo, provolone, and carmelized Walla Walla sweet onions, which I normally wouldn't bother with, but man did they ever make the difference with this sandwich.

The food is a little more than I'd like to spend in a pub, but since it tastes a lot better than what I normally get in a pub, it's worth it. Pair that with an interesting and varied beer selection, friendly staff and casual, relaxed environment, and you've got a pretty awesome neighborhood pub. We'll definitely be going back.

Cozy pub nestled into the Greenlake area. Handful of barstools, a few two tops, and a couple booths. The server was chilled out, sat us with menus and pointed out the do-it-yourself water.

I went there specifically for the Oregon burger, which was great. Generous portion and served fresh from the kitchen, no bs with warming plates. Cheese was sizzling and bacon was piping hot. Standard addition of sliced red onion, lettuce leaf, and fresh tomato. Plus a side salad tossed in a vinaigrette. Bun was soft and chewy, though held up well with the big patty.

Not as good as Red Mill, but a lovely spot to sip a cold one and spend the evening with fellow burger lovers.

One of the reasons I chose to go to Latona's was because of indirect comments from other reviewer. I was originally looking at reviews for Mona's Bistro in which reviewers kept saying they gave Mona's a shot because Latona's was already packed. We arrived around 6pm on a Thursday in the hopes of getting a table. We scored the last 2-top just before the bar seemed to double its' occupancy. While the bar is small the high ceiling and large windows help the space feel less cramped.

The atmosphere was lively and friendly. Most of the customers looked like neighborhood locals. I don't know the ethnic bent of the bar but it sure seemed like there were a lot of Irish in the house. Early St. Patty's revelry?

    Food/Drink:

Cheese plate special - Generous portions of three different cheeses served with apple slices, blanched toasted almonds, truffle honey and a pear chutney. Individually and combined, everything was delicious.  Two of the three cheeses were pretty crumbly so it made it difficult to slice, spread or in some other way combine with the apples, bread, honey or chutney.  I finally just started doing things like dipping the bread in the honey, taking a bit and then biting off a piece of cheese to enjoy the flavor combination's.

Portobello Sandwich - OMG. I took a couple of bites when the sandwich first arrived and thought, okay this is pretty tasty. As I sat a while, talked, swigged on a delicious pint of Shakespeare Stout and munched on the cheese plate the sandwich magically got better and better (and no I don't think it was due to the Stout). I have this idea in my head that it is something about the mushroom having time to rest, like a steak, and the juices getting reabsorbed. One way or another by half way into the sandwich I was making noises of enjoyment out loud, savoring every last bite. I was already getting full, but man could I really let it go uneaten?

Southwest Veggie Burger - My partner had the burger and was pretty pleased. Because of another reviewers complaints I later asked him about the texture of the patty and if it held together. Like this reviewer said, it sort of fell apart though he said he has pretty much come to expect that from any well made, good tasting veggie burger in a restaurant. I totally agree. While I would love for them to hold together a bit better I also think about how much crap is put into the ones we buy in the frozen food aisle and how much less flavorful they are. I can deal with a tasty veggie burger that is barely head together by the bun and a satisfied grip instead of a hockey puck made of sawdust.

I chatted with a table next to us who highly recommended the Barbeque Beef Brisket and the Burgundy Beef Pot Pie.

    Service:

The service was quick and friendly. Our server was knowledge about the beers and made recommendations based upon our likes and dislikes.

    We will definitely be back!

The Latona pub is a great place if you are looking for pub food that is more than just a burger and chicken sandwich.   I had the burger but the Mussels and Clams were also very good and the options for tacos, salads, grilled cheese and soup, and other choices for dinner also looked fantastic.

They have a variety of very good microbrews and the atmosphere is vibrant.  There always seem to be people there so if you are looking for a place that is "dead", this isnt the place.

My only complaint is that the bar seats arent ideal for eating.   I like eating at the bar and the stools were too bar away from the bar and the bar also has a block of wood on the endge which makes it nearly impossible to eat something without either spilling on yourself or having to seriously lean.   The regular seats and the booths are fine though.

In search of a salad, a sandwich, and a little something new, we headed over to Greenlake last night to try check out Latona Pub.

We'd heard good things about this place and when we pulled up, I found myself saying, "Riiiight.. This place. So this is Latona Pub.." I've driven by here a million times and while I've always seen it busier than a bumble bee in spring, I've never paid much attention to what it was. And now I know.

We seated ourselves immediately. It's a big space and usually quite busy, so a table might just be tough to come by at dinner time. We enjoyed the two Oktoberfest beers (the Baron and the Alpine) on their rotating tap, both of which were very good.

My spinach salad was absolutely fantastic with candied walnuts, bleu cheese, with a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. A big 'thank you' goes out to Columbia City bakery for supplying them with their bread! The veggie burger boasted a big ol' house made black bean patty that while good, lacked a bit in the seasoning department. It was nothing a little Tapatio couldn't fix.

NOTE: All sandwiches/ burgers come with a side salad. You'll have to get your fries elsewhere.

Our waitress was attentive and very sweet and the food came out within about 15 minutes of ordering. We'll definitely be back. I've gotta see if they'll sell me those candied walnuts in bulk. I'd eat 'em like cereal if it were permissible.. Yes, they were that good.

I wish not so many people knew about this place, because it gets kind of busy on Friday nights (when there is also a band, which takes up some space.... but they're pretty cool so no worries).

A lot of people don't know about the upstairs area. It's pretty tucked away, but if you sit at the bar part, you can watch everyone below.

Good beers, some varieties you wouldn't normally find in a regular pub.

AWESOME hummus plate, with pretty much anything you would hope for. It's huge. It's like $10. But worth it.

Had dinner there once, but I think I'll stick with the appetizers and beer. The people that work there are all quite friendly. One guy recognized we had never been there before, and we chatted about the neighborhood because we just moved. Great service!

Very woody-feeling, which is comfortable. Limited outside seating in the summer.

Best part, the chalk boards in the bathrooms. You can pick up a piece of chalk and write your heart out. Probably detracts from writing in pen on the walls. Great idea!

I recommend it. But call me first, so we don't go at the same time - I'm very territorial.

We met a friend here last night for dinner. We had each brought a bottle of wine, because we were more interested in checking out the food than the bev's. Our server (who was a tad 'tude-y) said they don't offer corkage. WTF?

So, we opted for beer. And it was good. We had Elysian Thing-a-ma-bob, which is an IPA with dill infused into it. YUUUUMMMM.

We ordered a ton of food to share- cheese plate, roasted beet and duck confit salad, shrimp tacos and steamed mussels.

The cheese plate was great- loved the truffle honey with montrachet goat cheese. Could've used some more bread, however, for the over 10 bucks we paid for said plate.

Mussels were awesome! Chunks of tomato and parsley and delicious beer broth with chunks of bread and meaty juicy mussels. Well done!

Shrimp tacos were good, too. Liked the bbq-esque sauce on them.

Duck confit salad left something to be desired. Only a few beets, duck portion was paltry, and it did NOT have Humboldt Fog Chevre on it (which is one of my favorite things in the world, and one of the reasons we ordered it). It still tasted great, however.

Prices were fair, we paid what I expected to spend on a meal here. And it's top-notch pub food. Great beers on draft, too. I was irritated when the guy in the band came up to us and said he need to set up so we needed to leave. Don't paying patrons mean more than a free gypsy jazz band? GRRRRR. That being said, this place still squeaks out a four star.

The Good: I love their beer and wine selection. Very dynamic and approachable. The food is really good - salads, great shrimp tacos, pastas, etc.

The Bad: Usually pretty crowded and the staff is pretty lackadaisical, which isn't unusual for a neighborhood pub, if you ask me.

The Ugly: Do you really need live music in a place that has about 12 tables? On a Monday night? When people would have used the 3 tables you got rid of for said live music?

There are two things that count against this place: 1) the noise level and 2) the menu pricing, considering this is a "pub." It felt kind of expensive for what we got.

The noise level evened out the later it got, though. The pricing was almost worth it, despite the fact that everything seemed around at least $10, including the appetizers. (Your standard veggie-friendly hummus plate for $11. Really?)

Otherwise, we are kicking ourselves for not visiting this place sooner. We dropped in, after an exhausting day of dealing with basement flooding, and wondered why we'd passed this place mostly daily for years without trying it. I've even visited Latona Pub's neighbors Mona and Krittika multiple times. I guess I never expected a fairly unassuming corner pub to dish out the quality. We shared a cheese plate of Humboldt fog, Montrachet, Cabot White Cheddar, apples, bread, pear chutney, marcona almonds and honey. YUM.

Individually: I went for the Scotch Bonnet Caesar Salad with Habanero/Caesar Dressing and chicken, while my companion went for a burger. Both were solid. Columbia City Bread, included in some way in most dishes, was fantastic. Oh yeah, and service = A+++, would buy again.
