I had lunch there this afternoon and I had the bacon cheeseburger (baaaaaacon) and all in all it was good.
I had to reassemble the burger when they served it as everything had slid off to the side. Once I put it back together and dug in, it was actually pretty good. I would have been happier if the meat had a bit of flavor, but I was able to taste all of the components of the burger (after asking for more tomatoes. They only gave me one that was about the size of a quarter).
I had the waffle fries with the meal and they were quite tasty. Not sure what the spice was they had but I enjoyed it.
Best part of LePeep? When you order coffee you get brought a carafe of your very own so you may enjoy as much of the piping hot ambrosia as you wish whenever you wish. Big points from me on that one.
The price wasn't bad as I had a meal and drink for under $10 + tip. The staff was helpful and polite and the restaurant was clean and smelled good. I got my food in a timely fashion and I was there during the lunch rush.
I will return.
It is good, but I think you can get more from your money elsewhere. The pancakes are okay. They do not have buttermilk, which puts them below American and Original pancake houses in my book. Also, the Gooey Buns- not gooey at all .I am sorry. What is this? I was expecting it to actually be gooey when instead it is basically an English Muffin dipped in a ton of butter and sugar. However, they always are friendly. I had one instance where they actually brought out our food at three separate times for our 5-person table but other than that, it has been great.
Review Source:We came here for breakfast and man, it seems to be the happening place to be on a Sunday morning!
I had the eggs Benedict while everyone else ordered some item that included french toast. There wasn't a long wait at 9-10 AM but after we came in, it seemed like everyone piled in. The food was good but nothing was exceptionally outstanding. Good service!
I will say, if you order the french toast that's supposed to be "coated" in something...it's not really all that coated. It more or less looked like it was sprinkled with some oatmeal so...not impressive.
We stopped here during our trek across the country from east to west coast, and what a lunch! We sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather, and the service was great. I ordered a cheeseburger with a side salad, and the salad was green (not iceberg!) and tasted great. The burger was top notch, and I eat burgers all the time. My girlfriend had the BLT and french fries and she loved them. I highly recommend for lunch!
Review Source:Ugh, what is it with Le Peeps that causes me to always get the wrong order. Let's just say at the end of my meal, me and my wife BOTH got free meals for the "next" time we visit.
Basically, we waited 30 mins for BREAKFAST food before we asked where is our food, apparently they forgot about our order or skipped it. Â (waitress wasn't too bright) and then when my wife got her omelet, it was totally raw in the center and they just microwaved it for us. Â Also DO NOT get their cappucino as it taste and looks like hot chocolate with a drop off coffee in it.
Damn you Le Peep...damn you to hell!!!
I went because of the positive reviews, but  I have only one positive comment: the coffee was alright. My salmon benedict was, how can I say this... disgusting. The salmon was wayyyyyyy overcooked; the hollandaise was straight out of a can not to mention there was about a teaspoon of it. My english muffin wasn't toasted. The potatoes bordered on raw and had no seasoning. The "sassy apples" were freezing, had no sass or spice, and were sitting in a pool of water.
Also- an argument errupted between two customers about poverty, and some random old woman tried to sit at my table.
As an out of towner, the above scenarios would just make me chuckle at the local color; coupled with the food, though, the whole experience just made me sad.
Every so often, I get a craving for Le Peep that only a trip to South Bend can cure. Â Where to begin? Â Usually I start with the delicious cinnamon roll latte, unless I need a lot of caffeine that morning, in which case the regular coffee (your choice of 3 flavors) is the way to go---you get your own pot, with free refills. Â I love that they give you a whole decanter of iced water, so you are never waiting for a refill. Â And then the food. Â I have probably had the entire breakfast menu by now, and the pampered eggs and skillets are my favorites. Â The potatoes are never mushy, the hollandaise is delicious, and they will let you customize any of the menu options. Â Somehow, they are able to toast an english muffin better than I ever can (I do wish they had more flavors of jelly and jam to choose from, however). Â The french toast and waffles are good, but nothing extraordinary, so stick to the egg dishes. Â Although I've never ordered any of the lunch items, my companions have, and have never had any complaints. Â
Food always comes out quickly, perfect for Sunday mornings when you are hungry after church. Â I definitely recommend making reservations on football weekends. My last two trips, my favorite waiter from my college days wasn't there, which made me sad--perhaps he only works weekdays now.
I have to say that I have been here several times, and usually find the food acceptable and the staff friendly. Three to four stars for a fast, cheap, retail sort of breakfast experience.
But there we were last week. My wife orders a BLT.
Ever ordered a BLT?
B- Bacon.
L- Lettuce.
T-Tomato.
Bread.
I bet you thought it would be hard to screw up a sandwich that has the ingredients in the name. Yeah, you'd be wrong.
Here are the offenses.
1) bread was way too thick.
2) the one itty wilted piece of L was buried under melted cheese.
3) there was no T.
No tomato? Say it ain't so? We asked the server. She had the gall to answer: "Oh, tomato prices are up, so you have to specifically request the Tomato."
Are you kidding me? We ordered a fracking BL*T*!!! The request for tomato was in the name of the sandwich!
Of course when we they brought our bill, they had charged us full price for the entire affair. You see, we still paid for the tomato. Just didn't get it.
Of course that's not as bad as our friends, who ate $9.40 worth of food but were rung up for $94.00.
I'm not expecting excellence. It is LePeep, after all.
But it seems we can't even count on basic competency.
[PS, I have photos of the sandwich, but can't figure out where to post them.]
Very good breakfast/brunch spot in downtown South Bend. A short walk across the College Football Hall of Fame football field from the Marriot.
There were interesting selections and the service was outstanding. They swallowed a 22 player soccer team about 10 minutes before my group of 7 arrived. The hostess said that the kitchen might be a little backed up for a while, but on a Saturday morning with no immediate rush, it was no big deal.... as long as they keep the coffee flowing.
And speaking of coffee, they brewed one regular, one decaf and three flavors all the time.
My breakfast was the Desperado Skillet, potatoes, onions, red and green peppers, tomatoes with Chorizo Sausage covered in Salsa and it was delicious.
Very different selections, great service and a fair price. A winner in any city.
I know this is a chain restaurant but it always feels like a family run cafe. Â My friend and I were seated right away on a Sunday and our drink order was promptly taken. I had already eaten (Tippecanoe brunch) so I had a fruit smoothie which was very good and well mixed. My friends meal came out in good time and she eats it regularity so no surprises there.
We were there for over 1 hour and we did not feel any pressure to leave. Just sat and chatted and the waitress still filled up our coffee & water. She did receive a big tip!
