    Good breakfast and morning drinks

Had breakfast at marshall's and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.  I was with a large group but the waitress took care of us all very well.  I had the pancakes and they were big, thick and delicious.   Not hard, light and fluffy.  Will have to have breakfast there again.

DISGUSTING!!!!! The star is for price and decent drinks!
Environment: The lighting is good, but the koi pond is enough to make me want to barf! My other friend said it feels like he is at a cafeteria ordering drinks! I only go here if I am drug.
Drink:Typical bar...pretty good! This is based on beer and mixed drink.
Food: Never had it, but apparently they have a decent breakfast, and t
    Price:Very reasonable.
Service: Ehh not that great. Everyone is so spread out and they are gone forever getting drinks and then they drop them off and dart away. I never rely on the waiters/waitresses for drinks; I just go and get them myself from the bar.

Over two years ago I would frequent Marshall's because it was close and served a decent breakfast in a hole in the wall neighborhood bar sort of way.
My last several visits have all been terrible.  I've ordered food off both the menu, as well as the new breakfast bar.  The service in general is terrible- good luck getting a server to come to your table more than once.
The prices are not great $3 for a glass of orange juice with no refills on top of $10 for the buffet of small selection of very soggy warmed over bland food.  Also had to dig through the pile of plates to find clean ones to use.
It's on my list of places I've given entirely too many chances to and will never go back to.  I'd much rather go to DK Diner at this point.  Better food and service while still being a local joint.

This has quickly become my favorite local Grandview bar.  I was surprised by this, but the atmosphere is awesome, they have a patio, and are in the heart of Grandview.

Drink's are priced very reasonably, $2 bombs!!!, and attentive bartenders.  Look forward to trying their new brunch and bloody mary bar here soon!

Update: Tried the Brunch/Bloody Mary Bar this past Saturday - can't quite compare with Cantina's for best brunch in Columbus.  At Cantina it's $15.00 for 2 bloody marys and buffet.  Marshalls is $10 for food, plus $5/drink.    It wasn't bad, just a slightly worse food selection and more expensive.  Will be continuing Cantina as the go-to brunch location.

    Overal, recommend!

I used to live next to Marshalls so I frequented the bar quite a bit.  It's a fun bar, but I'm here to talk about breakfast!  Their breakfast is my favorite in columbus!  They have great/greasy hashbrowns and their belgian waffles are AMAZING!  I have to get a waffle every time I'm there...I don't know what their secret is but they melt in your  mouth!  I have also fallen in love with the corned beef hash.  A lot of people I know say 'I didn't know Marshalls served breakfast' so I'm just on here to encourage you to try it!

Great breakfast. Great prices. Great staff. Nothing fancy, just good home cooked meals. You can't go wring with that.

This place is just strange.  Who thought to combine barbecue, brushed metal decor, and a koi pond?  The beer list is nothing special.  I'm told the Sunday brunch is good, but I haven't checked it out yet.  Not a bad place if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

My YELPing review is short since; (1) this was my first visit to Marshalls and/but; (2) it covered breakfast only.  Deelishus!

There were five of us big, brawny lads all hungering for some breakfast following the Columbus Marathon (or 1/2 marathon as the case may be).  The server was Monica who had enough p*ss and vinegar to give us as much back as we gave her - we loved it.  Then came orders for french toast, western omelets, 3-eggs over easy and loads of bacon, toast, biscuits and the likes.

I would have given the place 5-stars based on the food taste, freshness and such (the rye bread was very hearty and thick - I loved it as toast).  As can be the case on a day when the place was filled for morning food the kitchen wasn't keeping pace with demand.  So it took a bit more time than I would have liked.  So what?!  The food was tasting and for five guys to eat big breakfasts for a total of $52 including coffee?????  That's a dream come true.

Now,.... if I can only work my way back to Grandview and Marshalls for cocktails,..... hmmmm?

Wife and I decided to try a new place for brunch so we selected Marshal's. Breakfast menu was basic but I can't comment on the food. After waiting over 30 minutes for our food the server had no idea that we hadn't been served or where our order was. We decided to leave hungry instead of wait. Needless to say, we won't be back.

I went here because the website seemed promising, I heard about the indoor koi pond/waterfall and thought this should be nice.
Grandview also being a nice area that I's like to frequent more often we finally got the chance to stop by for a saturday night dinner.
My son had fun playing the various games they have and the husband and I sat at the pond.
I atmosphere was just run down, this might be a place that looks better when its dark out or you are already a bit tipsy.
Since either did not apply to me I kept staring at the lame waterfall, dirty pond which was cheaply made and other than some ladies enjoying happy hour a bit too much there was noone else there.
The menu left much to be desired, I ordered a veggie sandwich and the man a phillly steak sandwich, we figured since we had a BOGO coupon paying bout $10 for dinner for two would be fine.
After ten minutes of just feeling akward and not in place we got up and left.
Vibe is horrible, I didn't even want to waste $10 on you run of the  mill bar food.

I hosted a Pelotonia fundraiser at Marshall's with Christina C. last night. If you're racing in Pelotonia, Marshall's will donate a keg and free food, and allow you to host a party to raise money toward your donation requirement; they do not ask for anything in exchange. What a great service to the community. My liaison last night, Mike, was attentive, warm and accommodating.

The food was typical bar food, and I only had the beer from the keg, so I can't comment on their beer selection or mixed drinks. Overall, it was a casual atmosphere, with a gigantic patio (!) and an awesome fish tank inside the front door. They have mammoth-sized flat screens (perfect for watching the Olympics or football) and pool tables as well.

Overall, Marshall's was a fun time but more importantly, they're supporting our community in a big way.

We try to go for breakfast with the fam about once a month or so...I love the Western omelet! Have never had bad service as some have mentioned and I think we have had all the waitresses there. Would love a bloody Mary though!!!

Been to the bar a "couple" times and the happy hour is worth the trip in.

    Thanks Marshall's!!

There have butterfly Koi here that are able to swim from bar to dining area. It should be called Mashall's if the Koi is Marshall.

Great place just don't fall in the coy pond or it'll set you back a pretty penny (I know from experience).
Bartenders are the best in town, always anticipating your need for your next drink.  If you ever need a boost in self-confidence then challenge these jokers in the punching bag game- as they are horrible and you're certain to score higher on the game than them.
    That's all for now.

I was disappointed with this bar.  I'm going to steal an analogy from How I Met Your Mother -- when you look at a group of girls or boys, you think HOT! But if you take a look at each girl individually, not so great, but the group's presence carries more to a quick glance.  I walked into Marshall's and thought SWEET! But looking around I continued to be disappointed.

Long looking beer list - right on! Then you look up and down and it is your basic homage to crap beer.  While I love Blue Moon, it is not a novel craft beer.  The prices were OK, nothing to flock to.

Then I saw the koi pond and thought - fun! But when you walk up to it the fish barely move and it is more of a dirty koi tank that  I found very depressing.  Campaign to save those fish?

The bar was freezing so we wandered to the patio -- which was the saving grace of the establishment for me.   There was some very interesting characters having ridiculous conversations (I love listening to boys brag about how they are going to be such big shots one day!) which distracted me during the long wait for a beer.  The servers were unfriendly and unhelpful, so we used the bar.

All in all - if I lived close, I can't pretend I wouldn't wander over, but I don't so I will likely not return.

Wow, how is Marshall's not in the top-10 for brunch on Yelp? Generous portions and great taste should vault it to the top. I've been a regular there for several years, to the point where I and my brunch buddy are friends with one of the waitresses.

The pancakes are legendary. They are HUGE, light, fluffy, and have just the right amount of crisp along the edges. They also have a sweetness to them that makes it feel like you're eating pastry.

The home fries are also delicious. I'm not sure what they do, but they are crunchy, savory, and the perfect complement to the huge omelettes. The omelettes are stuffed with ingredients and flavor.

Basically, it's hard to go wrong at Marshall's for breakfast and brunch unless you don't have a big appetite. Great place!

Be prepared, the portions are huge.  My friends & I stopped in for a quick bite for picking up my wedding dress.  I had the mexican omelet & my friends (who knew better) shared the french toast.  It was my first time, so I assumed I'd be able to finish my food myself.  Clearly, I wasn't thinking.  I got about halfway through my plate when I felt stuffed.  The food is delicious --- and it wasn't at all crowded for a Saturday morning ---- but bring a friend & be prepared to share.

So I love this place!!! The Sunday brunch was awesome. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. My eyes got the best of me that day I had more food then my stomach could handle. Oh but wait its Monday night and I want a beverage.....Marshall's it is. The drink and food specials are GREAT! I love the bar staff they are friendly and truly engaging to everyone that comes inside. Marshall's is on my fav list!

I would say this is a nice casual restaurant.  Mostly American and pub fare.  Nicely priced for any price point.
I went with a friend for lunch on Friday.  I got a tossed salad, and soup, she got a cheese and bacon omelet.  Nice large portions, and the flavors were very good.  The wait staff is very nice, friendly and on point.  Very good service.  What I can see of kitchen it is clean with a good staff calling out orders and such.
It is nice that they do some special community events too to help out other small business in the Grandview area.  We are going to have to come back and try some of the other foods on the menu.  I saw they had pulled pork...my friend loves pulled pork.  I myself am trying to go more vegetarian, we will see how that goes.....ytbd...yet to be determined.
Nice atmosphere, friendly service, TVs in the bar area, a patio and an arcade for people who like to play games.  This place is OK in my book.

When you want a greasy spoon diner, Marshall's does the trick!

There's nothing spectacular about Marshall's, but for what it is - everything is really good.

The breakfast is filling, the service is quick and friendly, and the price is cheap. What's not to love?!

It's a good little destination bar in the heart of a neighborhood. The beer selection is ok and the booze is over-ridingly vodka based. You want a girly shot, this is the place. Behind the bar are guys and more guys so you know this is a girls bar.
All that said, they have no problem with anyone here. Even if you feel awkward at first, it is easy to feel comfortable.
The music is loud and poppy, but not offensive. The bar is tasteful in brushed stainless steel and the goldfish pool is damn cool.
I wouldn't come here alone, but meeting with people, this is not a bad place to hang out for a while.

Very neighborhoody, which I like. This was our back-up bar on Sunday when we got King Avenue Five a little too late. We wanted to watch the Bears game, and this place delivered. 32 oz of all kinds of beers for $5 isn't perfect, but it's better than KA5. They were playing all the games, but I found it odd that they were pumping the sound from the Pittsburgh game as opposed to one of the "local" teams.
The food was very sub-par. A club sandwich that isn't on toast, and had way too much mayo. Chicken wings that were smoked (actually tasted alright, but we were expecting something resembling Buffalo wings) and were too peppery (why do so many places think that heat comes from cracked black pepper?!). Wife wanted some celery....they don't have that.

We came for breakfast on a Sunday morning.  The food was pretty good.  It was hot when we got it, which doesn't usually happen at breakfast.  Portions were large and well worth the money.

Get there before 11:30 because the line is out the door past that time.

I would come back here again

This place had an amazing breakfast. It's cheap and traditional. The omelette's are fantastic and they can fry a potato just like Ma. Everyone I was with enjoyed the food and everything I tried was splendid. There isn't a lot of variety in the greasy spoon market in Columbus because of the rabbit food revolution but this place hits the spot for fried batter, eggs, and potatoes.

Lot's of old people are there early in the morn' so if you are an ageist I would recommend going somewhere else. Lest you be reminded of the unstoppable nature of time.

They do have an open air fish tank which is about as gross as eating the buffet at a strip club to me. But I don't think they let the fish run around on the tables at night or anything, don't quote me on that because I might be wrong.

If you are in the area and you are looking for a decent weekend breakfast spot, this is worth a look. But contrary to some of the other reviews here, this did not measure up as a "destination" breakfast place. Five of us went on Sunday morning - a little after 10 - and we each ordered a different breakfast. All of the meals were good, but nothing anyone wanted to rave about or offer to share.

The dining place is neat and relatively quiet, and we were able to be seated right away. It is a good place for a group of people to get together and hang out for breakfast. If you are in the area, check it out. If you are planning to drive in just for this... you might be a little disappointed. It's good, but not great.

Marshall's is my favorite bar in Columbus. I prefer the laid back atmosphere of Marshall's to the bars downtown. It doesn't hurt that as soon as I walk up to the bar, the bartender already knows what I want. ;o) Drinks are cheap, the bar food is amazing and there's a fish tank where fish can swim through the wall. What more could you ask for?

I've only been there for breakfast once, but it was really good. The only downside was that we had to wait in line for a little bit because it's a popular place to go. But, I suppose that's not really a bad thing, right?

Marshalls is a place unlike any other. Not only are they a nice place to grab a drink at night but also an unexpectedly delicious place for breakfast. I am going to have to split this review in 2 so that it makes sense.

First the Breakfast. I don't think I have ever been more pleasantly surprised. The Pancakes were HUGE, really, don't get more than 2. They were also very tasty in that 'you know this didn't come from a box' kind of way. The Sausage gravy was perfect, it didn't taste like lard and it wasn't too salty. The best part though was my order, a Crabcake Omelette topped with horseradish sauce! Wow, unexpected, Crabby, just a little spice. One of the better Breakfast dishes I have had in the city. The coffee was also good.

Second, the Bar. The Bar of Marshall's is an interesting place because it attracts a very specific type of person. Marshall's appeals, for whatever reason, to the late 20's, early 30's crowd. This makes it an ideal singles bar because if you happen to be looking for someone in that age range then you tend to find someone. Very, very few college students make it this far from campus and the yuppie crowd of the Arena District is also avoided. As for the bar itself? The prices are moderate and the drinks heavy. They have a couple pool tables and an air hockey table.

Overall a nice place. You can pick a lady up hear at night and when you come back for breakfast the next day her car is conveniently parked out front.

Now I'll give my two cents as a patron of the bar:

I love how this bar isn't pretentious and the clientele ranges from the 20-something celebrating a promotion at work to the 40-something meeting his neighbor for a beer after work.

All-in-all the draft selection is nice, the patio is perfect for the Spring or Summer and they have a killer bar and food happy hour for post-work snackin'. And you can order food 'til the kitchen closes from the bar or tables- which we all know is great for a nice base in preps for "one of those nights."

I go here because it's close; but wouldn't go out of my way to come if I couldn't stumble home on foot.

Ladies who Brunch chose this location for our June brunchings and munchings as it is around the corner from where we had planned to have an alcohol themed slumber party the night before.  The slumber party fell through, but we still managed to drag ourselves out of bed by 11am for brunch.

Parking didn't seem like it would be much of a problem.  I walked here from Goodale Park (its only 2 miles), but everyone else got spots right up front.  I was surprised that they were able to seat a group of 6 right away and with no problems.  I was expecting to have to wait a bit, but we were ready for nomming right away!

I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a pita.  It was surprisingly good!  I was expecting something small for the price, but it was decent sized and filling.  CK got the pancakes and seriously, I couldn't believe how big they were and how much syrup they brought out.  She didn't even finish one.  I can see why the option of buying just one pancake is on the menu.

It was nice, but not as good as some of the places we've been for brunch.  Service could have been a little more welcoming (smile people!) and they put my and another girl's food on one bill and then everyone else's got theirs separately.  Luckily we're smart girls and could figure it out, but if everyone is getting separate bills, why would we put ours together... oh, well.

Every time I visit Columbus, my trip is not complete without a breakfast trip to Marshall's! The food is superb, the service is usually quick, and the prices aren't too shabby either. I'm personally a huge fan of the french toast, though my friends all seem to agree that the omelets are a must.

The only trick is, you've got to come early if you don't want to wait FOREVER to get seated! This joint is popular for breakfast!

I am reviewing Marshall's as a bar.  I've never been for dinner or brunch.

This place has a ridiculous happy hour.  If I remember correctly, it's something like $1.50 domestic bottles and half price on some appetizers (oh mini corn dogs, how I love you) until 9PM!  You can leave happy hour at one place and still have two hours here!

This is in the bar rotation only during nice weather.  I don't care for the vibe inside so I prefer to sit outside on their nice patio.  I'm not sure what my deal is, but the music they play inside tends to annoy me and I've never thought the crowd was particularly friendly.

There are a couple pool tables, a dart board that was badly in need of new darts, nice bathrooms and a cool koi pond inside.  I hear they frown on trying to catch the fish with your hands.

Went to have a nice Sunday brunch here.  Overall, it was an ok experience.

We were seated pretty quickly, however it took 45 minutes to get our food!!  The food was standard breakfast fare and fine tasting.  Decor was lacking but I don't really care about decor.

I would only suggest people to go here if they are not starving and want to eat breakfast that you can find at most IHOPs and Denny's.

So, I know I have been writing alot of 5 star reviews lately, but I believe I really lucked out when it came to wedding planning and how virtually smooth everything went.

In search of an affordable location for a rehearsal dinner I called many places in town, most were $1000 or more for around 45 people, which was way out of our price range. So, I turned to the Yelp message board and one of the owners of Marshalls contacted me saying Marshalls restaurant is available to rent out, honestly Marshalls never even cross my mind as a place to rent out. Marshalls catered food in for us from their "Cook Shack BBQ" location and we had all of the restaurant side of the place for free! (As long as your bill was over a certain amount: at that time).

The only downside I would say is that they started playing death metal on the jukebox on the bar side around 6pm and we were told they couldn't turn it down, (which I have never heard of a jukebox not being able to turn down, but perhaps so), it would have been nice to have it off, at least until the dinner part was over.

The good: everything was ready on time, the BBQ and sides were delicious and received many compliments. There was plenty of room for our entire party, the drink service was prompt and when the formal part of the evening was over (around 730pm) people stayed around longer to hang out at the bar, which was a great atmosphere (the death metal was over) to catch up with people who we hadn't talked to in a long time.

While living in Columbus, Marshall's was my 'Cheers', where everybody knew my name.  The daily happy hour (4-9) domestic beer special is a steal.  The food is great, love the fried pickles and the BLT.  The bar has a good young professional crowd and a new jukebox that can download songs.   There is pool, air hockey and darts as well as a great patio for the summer.  Can't decide on a shot, order the house special the Buckeye shot.  A mix of chocolate and peanut butter from a secret recipe known only by the owner, Matt.

Check out Marshall's, hang out, watch the fish swim though the wall,  enjoy the laid back atmosphere and pretty soon everyone there will know your name too!  Be sure to say hi to Cory the bartender for me!

This past Saturday, on the recommendation of Cameron's dad, we visited Marshall's Restaurant in Grandview. Marshall's is a bit of a strange place, as when you first walk in you're given more the impression of a semi-trendy restaurant / nightclub than that of a place the serves biscuits and gravy. It almost looks like two different restaurants are missing their adjoining wall. Apparently Marshall's does serve standard bar food and drinks during the evening hours and has been bestowed with such accolades as "Best Single's Scene" and "Best Martini." By whom, I'm not exactly sure, as their website doesn't really go into details on that. I can't speak to that directly, as I opted for coffee over a martini, and the "single's scene" has never really been my niche.

As to the breakfast, I think the three of us agreed that it was definitely in the top tier of places we've visited so far. Jay and I showed up a bit before Cameron and were immediately seated, which is rare for a Saturday morning. While the coffee wasn't the best I've had, I'm admittedly a bit of a coffee snob. Adding a little cream and sugar brought it right up to par with most breakfast places' offerings. I'll give you fair warning, however: there is a reason that there is no breakfast plate on the menu that has both pancakes and hash browns. Jay and I both made the mistake of ordering the #3 plate (two eggs, two pancakes, and side of meat) plus a side of home fries. Someone should have warned us that the pancakes were approximately a foot in diameter. Needless to say, we were more wasteful than we usually are that morning.

On that note, Jay made a very good point in discussing our proposed reviewing system, and that is the need to classify the different styles of hash browns. Or "home fries" as the southern folks may call them. Just about every breakfast restaurant serves something called "home fries" or "hash browns," but what you end up getting can vary widely. Marshall's version of "home fries" are basically the fried potato cube variety as opposed to the shredded potato kind. And they're plentiful, just like the pancakes.

At the end of the breakfast, everyone was full and the restaurant was starting to fill up. Apparently with marathon runners? Marshall's certainly wasn't the greasiest restaurant we've been to yet, but I was a bit surprised to see that many apparently-health-conscious people there. Maybe there are some options on the menu that are more healthy than the "giant stack of pancakes" platter i opted for.

But I, for one, will never know.

I've been craving pancakes for months.  I've had Marshalls bookmarked for about that long too.  So we finally had the opportunity Saturday to do some serious carb overloading.

I was surprised that there wasn't a wait, only about 5 tables filled at 10 on Saturday.  Jon and I both ordered the 3 stack with sausage.

The pancakes were huge!!!!  They were deilcious and didn't really need any syrup or butter.  I could only finish 2 and felt full for hours.  The sausage was no big deal.

Marshalls fulfilled my pancake craving, but I probably won't drive out of my way to eat here again.  Jon thinks I was swooning over them just because it had been a long time.

Marshall's in Grandview... Is it a bar? is it a restaurant? Is it a diner?
    Yes. Yes. Yes.

The other reviews (except for one) have focused on Marshall's primarily as a bar and dinner restaurant, but I have never eaten anything but breakfast or brunch here, so my five star review is based purely on that one aspect.

I am not a morning person (just ask anyone who knows me!), but I always manage to leap from bed, full of vim and vigor, when Marshall's breakfasts are involved. We usually eat here on Sunday mornings, which are always very busy, but the wait is never very long. But if you do have to wait, there's an interesting fish pond to contemplate.

Parking can be a pain given the Marshall's location in a tiny little strip mall on 1st Avenue in Grandview. I've never had much problem and usually end up with rock star parking right out front in the little parking lot.
The restaurant is a comfortable diner-like restaurant, but the menu features everything from the usual combinations of greasy breakfasts to sandwiches, soups, salads and burgers. And the portions are mammoth! I find one meal is usually enough to split between to lighter appetites. The coffee is great too.

Marshall's used to be that "secret gem" you'd keep to yourself for fear it would become too trendy and busy- but the word it out. Most folks have at least heard of Marshall's and know it either as a breakfast place or a bar. Not to mention, it says a lot about a place when you spot Columbus's premier restaurateur eating here with his family on a regular basis.

Tomorrow morning, I will most likely tear myself from bed and stuff myself full of eggs, home fries and pancakes. Then happily be rolled back to bed.

$1 domestics used to be the happy hour thing at a few good bars around town and Marshalls quickly became one of my favorites.  B. Hamptons always had the same special but would often be annoyingly overcrowded or just annoying in general.  Marshalls on the other hand rarely has the annoyance factor too high, but always has the best classic rap JukeBox EVER.  That's right, I said classic rap.  Snoop, Dre and Eminem, fo shizzle, and even some real cool old stuff like one of my flavo-o-fav's: Public Enemy.  I swear I have even heard some old LL Cool J in there.  Good classic rock on there too.

The Fish  Bowl is the coolest.  It's more like a steel fish tub with a ramp  that defies gravity to go up into a brick wall and down the other side into another steel fish tub.  Has to be a bit of a liability, though.  Some poor wasted soul is going to stumble into that thing and fall in headfirst.  I just pray it's never me.

Here is why I like Marshall's:

    $1beers until 9 pm Monday-Saturday
    Pool tables and air hockey
    Pretty decent music
Good bar food to soak up those $1 beers
Nice patio to enjoy when it's warm out
I never waited in line for the bathroom

Marshall's was the "go-to" place when I lived in Grandview and wanted cheap drinks, especially before heading out to other bars. But it also wasn't a bad place to stay post-happy hour and drink until 2 am.  I never encountered bad bar service and was always helped relatively quickly, which is a good thing in my book. Sure, it got busy and tight inside a few times, but it was never unbearable.  All in all, a good happy hour place in Grandview that is definitely worth checking out.
