We've been eating here frequently for over a year. Why? Because we moved here from the Southwest and we know what real Mexican food is. Most places in Eugene / Springfield are so bland and I don't know why. If you want flavor and fresh, eat here. Good service, clean, and they have gluten free options! Almost all Mx restaurant owners in town should eat here and learn what authentic is. You'd think they'd know.
Review Source:The ambiance and the attention we always receive from the owner and the wait staff every time we go. Â I'm sorry "Brian K" had a bad experience. We went there last night and were greeted by the staff we've gotten to know: Â Eliazer, Maria, and Diego! Â This is a locally owned and operated restaurant and although we live in Portland we eat here every month when we visit because the food is good and everyone is super friendly.
We are vegetarians and our favorite dish is the spinach enchiladas! Incredible! Also ask for a shot of Mexican whiskey sometime.
Well....this sucks cause it was a good place for drinks and basic Mexican food. We will not be back. Â
We have been going here for drinks and food for a while now. It's been hit and miss overall, but a nice place. The food has always been okay. Nothing great but just good. It was nice to have a small local joint for this. I grew up in North East Los Angeles and yes, I am a bit jaded when it comes to Mexican food.
This time we were basically forgotten after we ordered our food. NOTHING gets me more upset when I go out to eat and get really poor service. I can cook better food at home...I like to go out to get served. After our drinks and food order we saw 3 other tables get their food before us. It's not like we ordered anything complicated either. A burrito, some tacos and a kids quesadilla. Half of our order came out after 45 minutes and it was cold. Then most of the other half came out 5 minutes later. Then they messed up my daughter's tacos and we had to wait another 10 minutes for hers. We like to eat as a family so we all kinda sat there staring at our cold food until we all had something to eat. The waiter kinda apologized but offered nothing of a real apology or any kind of compensation. We were all very upset.
I can put up with mediocre food but poor service....I am done!
We have always since living here in Springfield gone to another local place for Mexican food (not going to name) but after our last visit we just weren't happy with the service and drinks seemed watered down, so after a recommendation from a friend we visited Memo's for a late lunch/early dinner. We were welcomed immediatley and served fresh chips and salsa much to our liking. Our drinks served right up Yummy margaritas and not watered down! Our food was so good served up hot and very much to our liking!!! The staff was very on top of things and believe it or not the owner even came by to say hello and make sure we were happy with everything! That is my kind of customer service!
Review Source:I was in town from California recently and my brother took me to Memos based on some positive Yelp reviews. The ambiance is nice, clean, rustic, and laid back from the moment you walk in the door. The smell of the food cooking was outrageous from the moment we entered the restaurant. The chips and fantastic salsa were great starters. Â I had the carnitas and they were the best I ever eaten even by my snobbish Bay Area standards. Â My brother had the vegetarian fajitas, had a ton of awesome food and was quite content. The portions are large, the food is outrageous and reasonably priced compared to other so called Mexican food restaurants in the greater Eugene/Springfield area. The only drawback was we only got called amigos 4 times. (We liked one of the other reviews and counted)
Review Source:Love this place. Super friendly, great service, and good food!
The chips are thick and fresh. My kids( 8 and 9 yrs. old) finished off the red salsa. That tells you its not that spicy but still good. I prefer the pico salsa.
I ordered the flautas and my hubby ordered a shrimp plate(he cant remember name). My kids ordered a cheese burger and fries.(boring)
As we waited we played a couple of rounds of I Spy. Very entertaining since the restaurant is thoughtfully decorated. Green and yellow was popular in our game.
The kids loved their food. The flautas were crispy and the beef was juicy. It was so good. Hubby said his shrimp was juicy and the sauce was delicious. The servings were large. !Score!
We received great service. The next time i go in i will be counting how many times he says amigo amiga. Its allot!
Also i gave it a four star because the only five star Mexican food would have to be my Abuelitas cooking. She makes a mean green rice!
Memo's has good food and a great price. You can get 2 combination plates for $10 during the lunch rush. Bring a friend or arrive famished.
The owner is an awesome dude and super friendly. Just try and count the number of times he says "amigo" during your visit.
If you go for dinner I'd recommend the mole. They also have a pretty good happy hour special on beer and tequila. Swing by for lunch if you're tight on dough.
I've been aware of Memo's for awhile, but I had them confused with a mexican place down the street which doesn't seem to be in business anymore, so I've been avoiding them; big mistake. Â It's not the most authentic place in town, but they're damn tasty. Â
When trying out a new mexican place I usually try to get everything separate on my plate ,so I can taste each item individually  Unfortunately they didn't seem to have anything like a carnitas platter, so I coud construct my own tacos.  Instead I ordered a plate with a picadillo burrito and a chili relleno.  Both were quite good.  The chili relleno wasn't even close to the quality of Naya's, but still really tasty.  The beans and rice are what made this place stand apart from other mexican restaurants in the area.  Oh, and the chips and salsa were damn good.  They are complimentary and serve 2 kinds of salsa, one a spicy finely choppy sauce and the other a very chunky mostly sweet mixture of tomatoes, onions and cilantro.  For some reason my girlfriend though the chunky salsa was much spicier; she also made a mess of herself spooning it onto the chips and then having it spill off while shoving it into her mouth. :)
We went a bit late in the day, so it was a bit expensive for a lunch, but if they have lower prices earlier in the day I will definitely come back more often.
This style of Mexican food is not my favorite, so thus the 3-star rating.
That being said, the food is very high quality. It's very fresh and obviously homemade. The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating. They also have awesome drink specials and ICE COLD glasses for the beers. Yumm. I recommend giving it a try for sure.
I went here because the reviews said they have the best chips and salsa in the Eugene area... they have not! Although the one's at Chapala are far from perfect, they clearly are better... but the search remains open. Anyway, my main dish (a Mexican class, but I forgot the name... something like Mocajete) was pretty tasty, but nothing special.
