The food was ok. Â The service was horrid. Â We arrived at 7:00 for a 7:30 reservation. Â Got seated at 7:35. Â Didn't get our check until 10:05. Â We didn't have desert. Â The waiter was pathetic. Place wasn't even full and he took forever. Â After he left the desert menu he disappeared for 25 minutes and the rest of his section wa empty. Â If you want mediocre service and you have 3 hours to kil, by all means have a meal here, otherwise avoid this place! Â Far too many good restaurants to tolerate this abhorrent service!
Review Source:Good food, nice friendly service. That was my experience here. I enjoyed the unique dishes and the atmosphere. I would recommend you try this place and give it a go. Dont be discouraged by the negative stuff here. Try it for your self it is worth giving a try for sure. Short Ribs were AMAZING.
Review Source:Two words: truffle popcorn.
I came to the Metropolitan club about a week ago and have had dreams of this popcorn every night since. I can't wait to fulfill my addiction again. SO. GOOD.
I'd been here years ago for an office holiday party, and raved for months about the passed hors d'oeuvres and good drinks. I finally returned to meet a friend at the bar-top area for some snacks and drinks.
Also highly recommended is the lobster flatbread; it was delicious.
Service was fast, almost too fast, and our server only recommended the most expensive things on the menu--either A) to make more money or B) because she was right-as everything suggested was, in fact, delicious.
I absolutely loved the holiday decorations, and the ketch-up and martini christmas tree ornaments which may sound trashy but came off as very cute & classy. Overall, an extremely pleasant experience and I cannot wait to come back!
I had the taco tuesday taco specials and the cauliflower steak and mac n cheese. the mac n cheese was delicious, the cauliflower steak was recommended by our server as the best thing they have and it was pretty delicious. the tacos were good, but the short rib was my favorite by far despite them recommending the carnitas and the skirt steak.
Review Source:okay this place is probably good, but I went here during restaurant week and let me tell you how disappointed I was and at least not to order the entree we had.
The service was excellent, complimentary valet, the hostess was very nice and so was our waiter.
We both had appetizers: Â
Shaved Iceberg house made bacon, carrots, red onion, almonds, jicama, spicy shrimp, lime ranch, crispy tostada
Prosciutto & Comte "Grilled Cheese Fingers" tomato & spinach dips
Now my cousin told me that the salad was excellent, portion size was good too. Â
I had the the other one, it's good a bit heavy, kind of like mini grilled cheese sandwiches. Â But overall it was pretty good.
We both had the same entree:
Grilled Dry-aged Butcher's Steak Frites house made garlic fries, watercress red onion salad & creamy blue cheese dressing
Okay the watercress and fries were good but the cut of steak was TERRIBLE. Â It had no flavor, it was chewy, I gave it a try and asked for steak sauce in hopes it would make it better, but no it was TERRIBLE. Â it was so bad I only ate 3 bites and brought it home to for the dog to eat. Â
It was that bad - DO NOT order this. Â
For dessert we both had:
Strawberry Panna Cotta coco balsamic syrup, vanilla soaked lady finger, roasted strawberry crush
This wasn't too bad, good presentation.
The waiter was nice in attending to us and even had my valet ticket for the attendant so my car would be ready when we were done.
So, I finally made it to The Met Bar last week for one of their weekly 'themed' meals.
The beautiful property offers the following deals throughout the week:
Sunday: Â Chick Dinner Sundays ($15.95)
Monday: Burger Mondays ($4.99 per slider)
Tuesday: Taco Tuesdays ($6.00)
Wednesday: Twin Lobster Wednesdays ($24.99)
Thursday: Steak Frites Thursday ($17.95)
Chef Winer is superbly creative. Â One menu item which left me speechless was the CAULIFLOWER STEAK! Â Yes! You read that correctly! Â This creation truly blew my mind and I am so glad my curiosity got the best of me when perusing the menu on Burger Monday last week. I packed a bit to take home...anticipating reliving the moment over lunch, but ALAS... my impetuosity got the best of me and I made a B-line for the doggie bag just minutes after getting home! Â The cauliflower steak was beautiful...a pan-seared/charred complete slice of cauliflower from an intact head cooked in garlic/truffle oil in EVOO?? (which usually isn't my thing...but I love when a chef forces me out of my comfort zone).
It was Burger Monday so I tried the Mexican burger (slider) which was topped with cheese, fantastic guacamole, on a soft bun. Â I order it medium well and it was perfect!
Anyone who has dined with me OR knows me well, knows I can be hard on Mac n' Cheese...The Met Bar exceeded my expectations with their hearty macaroni (large noodles). Â It was not lacking in the cheese department as most restaurants are...not watery in the bit. Â This was one solid, perfectly flavored and CHEESY mac n' cheese. Â This makes my top list for Mac n' Cheese
The duck spring rolls were average. I found the duck a bit dry but the flaky spring roll wrap was perfectly flaky! Â Because it was so late in the evening, I'd give this dish another try in the future.
The bartender was also on point with a perfect Manhattan (made with my favorite bourbon...Knob Creek). Â I love any bar that serves bourbon cocktails (or those which call for a cherry) with authentic maraschino cherries (not the bright red average store-purchased kind)...this gave me a beautiful flashback to Marliave (the first to break the real maraschino cherry obsession for me in Boston).
The Met Bar is a perfect spot for weekly obsessions and dabbling into the creative mind of Chef Winer.
My friends and I stopped by here after having dinner @ the Capital Grille (it's a great place, try it!) for drinks. We were there for quite some time, the atmosphere is great and for the most part the staff isn't too bad except for maybe our bartender. I'm not sure what was going on with her that night but it seemed to upset her that we were even sitting at her bar. But I have to say she makes killer drinks! Once you ignore her the experience will be better.
We got hungry and ordered a few appetizers: Made-to-Order Popcorn (truffle oil, sea salt) and the Six Tokyo Kobe Miniwiches (sticky soy, avocado, munster, pickled onion). They were both a little pricey when we looked at it but we were hungry so we ordered it anyways. To our surprise both items were really good and totally worth the price. It makes me wonder what dinner would be like there, so we'll have to try it again sometime soon.
Bar review only:
Generous, well-made cocktails in a perfectly-lit, not-too-dim-not-too-bright space with plenty of comfortable seating. Perfect place for a few friends who stuffed themselves silly at Oishii to go relax, catch up and bitch about life. Actually, my friends got two different glasses of wine and I got the Toasted Coconut because I seem to always end up paying the extra $2-3 for a cocktail instead. (I cannot help it, I am obsessed. with. cocktails.) And we didn't spend ALL our time bitching about life. Just some of it. :P
No, but for serious, the Toasted Coconut is so delicious. Like an un-creamy pina colada and they really truly coat the glass in toasted coconut flakes. Our server, who seemed to be dressed like a manager, was the nicest, friendliest guy ever and when he eventually was replaced by someone else, she was really friendly too. If the bar area looks packed, just seat yourselves because they really didn't seem to mind when we did it.
Can't speak on the food due to the aforementioned stuffing of selves at Oishii but I hear they do a lobster special that's a good deal.
I live really close to met club- and I think it only survives bc if the post-work yuppie drinking and business people meetings that come here and then a senior citizen crowd from The nearby senior living plAce
The food is blah average and overpriced. Â I've been here twice and that was enough for me. Â It has a bar tho. Sooo yea.... Eh.
I enjoy the food here very much when it is available...
I will often go here with a friend and sometimes they will seat us and bring our drinks and when we ask for a menu they tell us "oh, the kitchen is closed..." I often wonder to myself how you can list your hours as being open until 11 and close the kitchen at 8:55pm.
I enjoy the drinks... when I am NOT sitting at the bar
I used to sit at the bar when Leo worked behind there. Since they have expanded I think the service has gone WAAAAAY downhill. I have had not one or two, but about 5 bad bar experiences. There is one bartender in particular that is just always so rude. She will come over with a rushed look and huff "what do you want?" and act annoyed if when we order our drinks we ask for extras such as water or bread before our meal... she actually rolled her eyes a few times.
so, yes the food can be good, but dont expect good service and call to make sure the kitchen is still serving before you go in, and whatever you do- DONT sit at the bar!
Went here just last night. We've had good experiences at the Met Bar in Natick so we figured that we would try out the Club. First off, complementary valet parking in Chestnut Hill! Stellar...makes it much easier to navigate, especially with these gargantuan snowbanks around. We walked in with a reservation at 6:30 on a Friday night and were seated with 5 minutes at a very comfortable booth. The waitress came over and gave us the run down of the menu and drinks. I ordered a Boston Tea Party cocktail ($11) that was very good and refreshing if not a touch expensive. We noshed on the bread for a bit and then ordered our meals. They have loads of options with thing primarily geared towards carnivorous offerings.
Service was quick and easy and the meals came out hot and ready to eat. I had a short rib with some parsnips and an amazing au jus. The short rib has a caramelized crust on top which lent an interesting twist to the typically moist meat brick. It was touch dry but the au jus, of which none remained by the time I was done, complemented it perfectly. My wife had a chicken salad that she raved about. The lettuce looked very fresh and there was nary a morsel left on her plate at the end of the meal. My father-in-law had a veal parmigiana that he reported to be a perfect melding of breading, tender meat and homemade tomato sauce. We all were very happy with meals and the portion size was so generous we skipped dessert although I've heard good things about turtle cheesecakes or something like that there.
The bill came out to about $110 for the three of us with 2 drinks. Not too bad for a nice meal in Chestnut Hill. We'll go back for sure.
I believe that the Golden Girls people have created a restaurant and not told anyone. Â This place is like a retirement home with a bar for the kiddies.
I'd remembered seeing something written up about this place re sliders, a burger bar, etc.--something I vaguely remembered sounding promising (it occurs to me now that this was the bar portion of the restaurant, which is apparently a completely separate entity). Â So, after a long day of work it seemed like a good place to stop in for dinner on our way to see a movie. Â Free valet sealed the deal.
It wasn't until we were seated and looked around that we started to get nervous. Â We were the youngest people in the joint by about 3 decades, easily. Â And I am no spring chicken. Â Whatever, maybe the food will make up for it...
Meh. Â Everything was meh. Â The bf had "steak bombs" which were essentially cheesesteak materials made into spring rolls with spicy dipping sauces. Â He really enjoyed it, I thought it was meh. Â He then got a huge burger, which he described as "okay, but nothing special."
I had the night's special, French onion soup. Â It was good, but nothing to write home about. Â There was waaaaayyyyyyyy too much cheese. Â I followed that up with an iceberg lettuce bowl salad. Â It was an interesting concept: hollowing out a head of lettuce and serving a salad in it. Â But, it was mostly meh. Â There was just too much pepper, the bleu cheese was unnecessary and gross, and the frizzled onions were a weird addition. Â It's not often you find a bad salad, so that's kind of impressive. Â All together there was way too much food, which was also annoying since it's not the kind of food you're excited about taking home to eat again.
The service left a lot to be desired. Â It vacillated between hovering and aloof. Â It took the waiter about 15 minutes to take our order. Â After we'd started eating, he attempted, no less than 3 times, to take my plate away while I was still eating--and I mean actively eating. Â The second time I had to actually tell him to give it back. Â After he took the food away, it took 5 minutes for him to come back and ask if we wanted dessert (which we didn't), another 5 to get the check, and another 10 to get the change.
When we walked out, we saw that the bar was packed and with young(er) people seemingly having a good time. Â I wish the host had given us the memo, given that we were clearly too young for the dining room.
The chances of my coming back are pretty slim. Â Unless I need somewhere to take a grandma or a cougar.
I had been here a few times before for drinks and light apps, but this time I came for Restaurant Week and wasn't disappointed.
We had a reservation for 7pm but ended up arriving early around 6:20 and were seated right away. Â We were all debating whether or not to order from the restaurant week menu as there were so many other appetizing choices. Â In the end we all went with the restaurant week menu with an order of the artichoke appetizer to share. Â The restaurant week menu was delicious. Â My mom had a fantastic salad topped with crunchy pancetta and I had a caprese salad which was light and fresh. Â My boyfriend had a shrimp and corn salad which was grilled to perfection. Â We all had the steak tips for our main course marinated in the special MET BBQ sauce. Â The steak was tender, juicy, and delicious.
Met Club is the perfect spot for an after work drink and some light apps or dinner to catch up with friends. Â Whatever you're in the mood for, Met Club has something on the menu for you.
I'll definitely be back.
Went here for the $15.95 Sunday chicken dinner night. You have the option of 1/2 chicken fried, BBQ, plain, or you can split a whole rotisserie chicken for two. The price also includes a large salad with a fantastic homemade dressing and the choice of one side.
Being the health nut I am I went for the 1/2 fried chicken with a side of Mac & Cheese. The chicken was out of this world. Crispy on the outside but so moist and juicy on the inside. The 1/2 chicken is also almost totally boneless so no need to fuss with any of that bone B.S. The drinks were great too. I usually only get drinks with bourbon and The Met had this bourbon based drink called The Derby. Kinda their take on a Mint Julep, it was the perfect balance between bourbon, mint, and lime.
I will definitely go back for Sunday chicken night again. Until then I plan on going back on a Wednesday night for the twin lobster dinner. Can't wait.
We were lured in by an attractive menu for Restaurant Week. Â Overall, we were very pleased.
The environment suffered from high noise level and too dim lighting. Â (If the waitress has to lend you a little flashlight to read the menu, the lighting's too dim, folks.) Â In addition our first table was in a draft, but upon asking we were moved to a more comfortable table.
Food was very good to excellent. Â Fried oyster appetizer was tender and tasty and not too greasy. Â For entrees we had cod and steak. Â The cod was light and flavorful, and steak was frankly some of the best we've had anywhere, both in taste and tenderness. Â Portions were modest, but for us that's good, otherwise neither of us would have had room for desert. Â We partook of both the turtle cheesecake and the brownie sundae and were pleased.
We also sampled the mohitos. Â I'm no expert in mohitos, but I'd say they were good.
Our waiter was pleasant and genuinely enthusiastic. Â The table was cleaned efficiently between courses, in one case by a staff person who was neither our waiter nor our busboy but just happened to be passing by.
Pricey? Yes. Â But for us the experience was worth the indulgence.
**This review is for the March 2010 Restaurant Week Menu only**
When we arrived, there were some bodies in the bar area, but the restaurant was rather quiet. Â The decor is nice...kind-of dark, so more on the romantic side. Â I actually had trouble reading the menu!
Drinks:
They had a special cocktail for Restaurant week - mojito for $7, in many different flavors. Â I tried the lychee while my friend had the peach. Â They were just ok. Â Mine was too sweet, hers lacked peach flavor.
Appetizer:
I started off with Crispy Ham & Cheese - shaved italian country ham wrapped around fontina cheese / herb bread crumbs / arugula / tomato and green olive. Â This tasted good but I thought it was too heavy for an appetizer. Â There were 2 pieces with a good amount of greens. Â If they had given me 3 pieces, I could've eaten that alone as a meal. Â
My friends ordered the Beet Tartare: Â Red Beet Tartare sheep's milk ricotta / hydro greens / walnut toast. Â It was my first time eating beets and it was good. Â To my surprise, the beets, ricotta and walnut toast went really well together.
Entree:
2 of us ordered the Devil Fried Chicken - jalapeño dusted organic chicken / cippolini tomato sauce / artichoke pancake .  This was delicious and the portion was big as well.  The Fried chicken was tasty and crispy.  The artichoke pancake was really interesting and delicous as well.
My friend ordered the Roasted Cod- clam risotto / fried clam oreganata / bacon mayo. Â The risotto was extremely salty! Â but overall, it was good.
Dessert:
This was my least favorite.
I got the Brownie banana split. Â The brownie was not soft nor warm. Â Someone else got the turtle cheesecake and it was too sweet. Â We didn't even eat half of it while sharing.
I really enjoyed the food & experience at The Metropolitan Club for restaurant week. Â
I'd definitely be back to try their Sunday Chicken Dinner special!
The confusion began with the name: The Metropolitan Club. Â Friends mistook it for the Met Bar, which I really wanted to go to in Natick. Â Met: 0, Us: 1
We quickly realized our mistake once we got there but decided to stick around since it looked cool. Â Should have seen the warning signs (lack of host/hostess, lack of clientele) and left. Â Alas, we eventually found someone who worked there and they gave us a big booth. Met: 1, Us: 2
Still craving a burger, I ordered that and was excited for my food. After all, the place looked fancy and prices weren't cheap. They must have good food, right?
We waited, and waited, and seriously wondered if they forgot about us. Met: 2, Us: 2
Eventually, we got our food! Yay! Â But... they forgot my bacon! I had it sent back to the kitchen. Met: 3, Us: 2
Got my burger back.. only to discover my bacon was burnt to a crisp. Â YUCK! Met:4, Us: 2.
By that time, I was starving, so I just ate the lousy thing.
Do yourselves a favor. Don't go here. I wish I hadn't.
The only thing I liked about this place was the interior decorations. Â The candles hanging from the ceiling were a cool touch.
I went here last night for the first time with a friend. At the end of the night i was not impressed.
When i first got there the hostess was a little rude. Maybe because im youngish or something who knows.. Â My friend showed up and we sat down. The waitress was very a tentative. We ordered 2 appetizers. The everything chicken and the steak bomb. Â
Now the steak bomb was really good. THe horseradish mayo was very good. The everything chicken wasn't so great... It's like an everything bagel but with chicken... I was not impressed. Just a very hard coating and very bland.
Now as I've mentioned before our waitress was very attentive. Well not really. she was major space cadet.
Here comes the great part... 50 bucks for 2 people... Really? why? 2 cocktails.... and 2 appetizers. that is crazy.
Well all in all I probably wont be coming back here any time soon.... Maybe when im wicked rich or something
On our way out for groceries we stopped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised.
The food was out of this world. Â I HIGHLY recommend the Met fries and all the salads and entrees looked great. Â I can't imagine anything bad comes out of the kitchen.
The service did leave a little something to be desired. Â There were only 4 tables with people, but our server disappeared for long periods of time and it took forever to place our order, but the quality of the food made it well worth it.
I know I sound like a shill for this place but I can not help by being impressed at how consistently excellent this restaurant is every time I go there. Last night I dragged my very tired sorry butt into The Met plopped myself down at the bar and ordered my usual martini. Man was that good; perfect martini, cold, clear and dry. By the time my wife showed up I was helping myself to another and feeling far less weary.
Food here is always excellent. The lobster pizza is killer as are the sweet potato fries and the calamari. Great place but remember ....bring the wallet because quality is not cheap at least not here in Boston.
Who knew the Met Bar in Chestnut Hill would cave and acknowledge the recession? My last venture here began with the intent of having a burger, but we saw the Sunday night flat bread menu and couldn't resist. Those damn prix fixes get me all the time!
I had a salad to start- which was really shredded lettuce and the tiniest diced pieces of cucumber and tomato I've ever seen, then a tuna flat bread and caramel hazelnut cheesecake for dessert. I attempted to enjoy a French 75 alongside, which was decidedly average. All-in-all, a good meal for $35.
I've also been to the bar side, where we've had the same unattentive waitress each time. The appetizers are decidedly more intriguing than the entrees available across the hall in the dining room, though, and the bar has a much less stuffy vibe.
It's cute, and nice, and the food doesn't disappoint, but for the trek out to Brookline, I'm never wowed by what I get.
We went to the Met Club last night for their $4.99 Monday night burger bar.
As expected, the burgers were fairly small - 5 ounces - which I didn't think was nearly big enough.
We each got 1 burger - I went with the Mexico City: guacamole, charred tomato salsa, cilantro, jalapeno, sesame seed bun (sans jalapeno) and my fiance went with the D.C.: American cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, sesame seed bun - and shared an order of the Met Fries with truffle parmesan dip.
It was actually the perfect amount of food - we were both pleasantly full! We didn't like the truffle dip so much - it was basically just flavored mayo - but were given a big container of it and a TEENY container of ketchup. When I asked for more, the waitress brought over another teeny container! As we were leaving, we walked past a couple I think are regulars (their burgers came out about 3 minutes after they sat down and they were chatting with the waitress like they knew her) and I saw that they had a huge container of ketchup - bigger than our truffle dip. :(
All together, the bill was $17, which is rather pricey for 2 lil hamburgers and some fries. Good food, but somewhat fancy and "full of itself" (yes, it's a place, not a person).
I didn't know that the kitchen at the Met Bar closed down at 2pm after "lunch hour" was over. How was I supposed to know when I didn't see it on the front door, or at the host's counter, or on the menu as I perused it. The hostess didn't say shit to us about only having about 25 minutes before they set the tables for dinner in which to sit, order, eat, and clear out. I could have used the heads up. But I digress...
I ordered the pressed cuban club sandwich which happened to be one of the largest sandwiches I've had in a long time. The fries that came with them were good - yet somewhat confusing. They were white slices of potato that had strange purple flecks in them. They were somewhat sweet, but caked with salty bits.
The waitstaff was really sweet and accommodating, especially when we had my baby sister join us when the kitchen was already closed (unknown to us until that moment!) but they gave her ice water and a plate and cutlery as soon as she sat down so she could share our sandwiches if she liked.
The hostess sat us right near one of the three occupied tables in the place. There were multiple places she could have sat us so we wouldn't have been right on top of the couple next to us - but in the end we chatted them up a little bit and it was alright. Still, strange move on her part, methinks.
I'm kind of mixed on this place. Â The dining room is nice, and the service is terrific. Â However, considering it's a steakhouse, the steak is not all that great. Â I've found their steaks tender, but not flavorful. Â And I'm not just talking about the filets. Â If I'm going to pay decent money for steak, I figure it should be terrific. Â And it's just not.
The Bar, on the other hand, is great. Â There is some great bar food, and the atmosphere there is casual and welcoming and a little sexy. Â My fave appetizer in all of Boston is the duo of tuna and salmon tartare. Â I'm salivating now just thinking about it.
Oh, weekend brunch there is pretty solid, too.
I took my bf here for his birthday because he loves steak, and we were not disappointed. The Metropolitan Club has great service, great ambiance, great food and is an all around great restaurant.
Although I was a little sad that they had run out of their pumpkin and butternut squash soup, it was well made up for in the west coast oysters, wedge salad and delicious rib eye we ordered. The fact that they had Hoegaarden on tap also helped me get over my sadness....very fast!
I thought it was really nice that before we got our food, a waiter came out to show us what the meat looked like before they sliced it up for us. The rib eye came with a set of 3 different salts to sprinkle on the meat, and I wish that they would have told us exactly what they were, but it was sort of fun to play "what does that salt taste like".
I also wish that they would have had a better selection of meats....I was a bit surprised that the menu didn't have a very extensive list of meat compared to other steak places that I've been.
Restaurant week summer 08' experience.
Let's start with the positive. The mood is nice, lighting not too dark, not too bright. We were seated within a few minutes of our 7:30 reservation. My partner and I could hear each other talk and we enjoyed the atmosphere.
The, manager, I think, when noticing something was amiss (the waiter failed to bring my husbands glass of wine after placing the order 10 minutes prior) came up promptly and got the glass of wine himself.
Ok, we started with some lovely lookings apps. I had a bland salmon cake on an interesting pile of 'cucumber salad' that after tasting my partner thought was slaw. My husbands Watermelon Salad with feta, arugula, sunflower seeds, black olives was great though.
The main reason we came was for the sirloin. We are beef people, I have eaten beef across the globe and was certainly disappointed. We both had the Met Club "Club Cut" Sirloin tomato-corn tart, Â & buttery spinach. After my first bite, I knew something wasn't right, but I ate it anyway, although didn't finish (from a person who can put away a 30 oz prime rib). It was terribly greasy, from the sirloin to the tart. And horribly bland. No salt or pepper on the table, although our waiter did offer fresh ground pepper to the party to our right, although they were ordering from the regular menu, so it seemed as though you got better treatment that way. The waiter showed no interest in us or our meal. But if my tip were already included too and I knew the quality of the meal being served, I might try to avoid us too.
And on the way home our stomachs were not in good shape. We both took turns in the bathroom for half the night.
No we would not go back, and we wonder if the food is always like this, or did they just throw a bunch of mediocre food together for the sake of getting people in the door for restaurant week. How do they get new clientele with a sampling like this? A big disappointment. We could have done better at a regular priced menu at an old favorite steak house.
Restaurant Week '08 Review:
Normaly a pretty pricey little steakhouse. Pretty chic decor, nothing spectacular but nice looking...
The location isnt great, I don't know much about this area but rte 9 is annoying. You can park for free on the street and they offer a valet too.
Service was great, food was tasty. Our server asked us about the dishes and this is the type of place that trys out new items during restaurant week (to me the true meaning of the event) and wants feedback. I guess they make a lot of their items in house (like the coconut ice cream for example) which is pretty interesting.
I probably wont be going back due to the prices... but it was fun during restaurant week!
Came here for a business dinner a few weeks ago. Â We had a private room. Â Its a fairly straight forward high end steak restaurant with the obligatory Waygu offering. Â I have to say we had an excellent waiter who looked after our nine person party with effortless aplomb. Â I had the: Arugula Salad with Shaved Parmesan pistachio crusted goat cheese, lemon vinaigrette and the prime sirloin, cooked medium. Â
A good steak every once in a while is great, but it is just not a place I can get worked up about. Â Lets put it this way, its a great place when someone is paying. Â I would rather spend my own $$ at a more imaginative place like Clio.
Aaaaargh! This place sucks so much. It's painful even giving it one star.
First off, the Metropolitan Club should not be confused with the Metropolitan Bar and Grill in Natick. This Metropolitan is awful. The parking is a nightmare, the valet is no help, and I'm already stressed out before I've walked in the door. It's pretty inside and the food is decent, but those are the only two pros to this restaurant. The service is god awful: everyone from the valet, the snooty bee eye tee see aitch at the front desk, the cranky bartender, the server who came on strong in the first 5 minutes (after making us wait for ten) and lost interest for the rest of the night (15 percent...and he didn't even deserve that), to the brute of a backwaiter who snarled at me when I asked for more water.
As stated earlier, the food is deece, but it's so goddamned expensive. Another consistency that I've seen with other reviews is that from the time the server put in the order, it was an hour before we got our food. What gives? Did they actually have to go slaughter the cow?
I'm not sure why we ordered dessert. To prolong the agony?
On the way out, though, take a look at the bar and the whole place suddenly makes sense. Every piece of slimy yuppie scum in Boston has bellied up to the bar. It's a true meat market in every sense of the word. These people don't care about quality. They care about looking good and being "hip". Â Image ain't everything. Fuck them, and fuck the Metropolitan Club. One of the worst evenings I've ever spent.
I have been to The Metropolitan Club on three occasions, once when it first opened, once about a year ago and once this past summer.
The service has been absolutely fantastic each time, the staff has been knowledgeable, friendly, down to earth and very helpful and the dishes have been well timed. The reason I have given it four stars instead of five is because the quality of the food/creativity of the menu has been on a decline (was excellent when it first opened). Nevertheless, I would still go back there and would feel confident recommending it to friends/family.
Very sophisticated, loungy atmosphere to the bar! I only had one drink before catching a movie across the street, so I didn't eat here -- but the menu I saw at the bar looked great. Saw some people who had food at the bar and everything looked delicious.
I was there on a Monday night, and it was pretty empty. Not sure if it gets packed on the weekends or not? The drinks were moderately priced; the wines by the glass seemed to range from $7.50 to $11, and cocktails around $11...I'd definitely go back to try dinner!
So I went here tonight and spent the price of an Accord on dinner. Â It wasn't bad. Â I had the corn chowder to start, followed by the fillet au poivre with onion straws. Â The soup was good, and the meat was delicious. Â However, for the price, I wasn't blown away by the service. Â It took an eternity between the first course and the entree, and then another long span between desert and them seeing if we wanted coffee. Â
So the place was hip, and certainly it was good eats for Newton. Â But I would have rather gone across the street for Acquitaine. Â I guess there's something about a steakhouse, that brings to mind a different level of service than a normal restaurant. Â More attentive perhaps. Â
Maybe there would have been one more star if the date had gone better, as well.
A Restaurant Week Summer 2007 stop.
I was disappointed. Â Perhaps I shouldn't listen to the hype. Â The food was good, not great. Â Creative, absolutely. Â Service, friendly. Â Dessert (cheesecake) was lick the plate awesome. Â Watermelon soup - ok. Â The main course was steak on top of fontana cheese and a cracker/toasted bread slice. Â I think there was some pesto in there as well.
All that said, the million dollar kicker for me is that my main meal (remember, steak) was served IN A BOWL. Â WHO SERVES STEAK IN A BOWL???? Â ESPECIALLY, a steakhouse?!?!?!
I LOVED trying to cut my steak against the side of bowl. Â Not to mention the bowl probably had three inch sides so I am sure I looked like a 6 year old eating at the big kids table with my elbows above my head trying to cut the steak at a decent angle.
I've said this before, but I consider RW to be an opportunity to try restaurants at a "discount" and the good ones I recommend like crazy and personally go back to time and time again. Â The Met Club isn't making that list, despite the hype.
This place was amazing when it just opened. My husband and I were regulars. I don't know what happened, maybe they changed the chef. In any case, I'm still giving it 4 stars because I'm hoping that last time was just a fluke.
The good things: Excellent food (I know, always helps at a restaurant!), very nice presentation, great service. Â I'm not a big drinker, so I can't comment on the wine selection. But I love dessert! Â And almost everything on the menu tastes great.
Before you get to the 'sweet' part of the night, try their french onion soup, it's great (unless that last time was not a fluke...). Also, their meats are great. Don't bother with the chicken, it's definitely not a star on their menu.
OpenTable says the price of a meal here is $51. Even though I didn't get a steak (it is a steakhouse), my meal came to almost exactly $51, and for the most part was worth it.
When I first spotted this Figs replacement, I thought it was just a bar/lounge. Hard to imagine where I'd get that idea considering the dark exterior, dimly lit interior and name "Met Club."
It's definitely trying to be trendy. It has a wide open lobby flanked by a fireside lounge area, dark furniture, white cloth table settings and very, uh, formal waitstaff. It's like Flemings meets The Fireplace, only somewhat less fun. I went with a friend and she and I felt like we were on a date, the place was so serious.
As for the meal, I started with a drink called Pura Vita (tequila) and liked it even more than as I thought I would. I mentioned it's a steakhouse, so I probably should have ordered a steak, but I went with the sole because it had sundried tomatoes and raisins on it... I hadn't had fish in ages and the description sounded really good to me. It was great actually. My friend loved it, too. The only thing about the dinner that seemed a bit ridiculous was the price of the side dishes -- considering their size. At a really nice steakhouse (i.e. Mortons), you'll get a side dish big enough to share and still have leftovers. A side dish (about one cup) of vegetables -- edamame, carrots and baby corn (that's all!) -- cost $7. I could have made that for .50 cents at home.
Last but not least, we ordered a baked berry/apple cobbler for dessert, that really did take about 20 minutes to bake. The waiter warned us about two desserts that would take 20 minutes (the cobbler and a chocolate lava cake) -- but he forgot to come back and check on us during dinner to see if we actually wanted to order one. Not that it mattered much, but waiters at most restaurants with similar specialty desserts will actually ask you if you want one.
Great service, food is varied and always beautifully presented.
I could easily open the menu, close my eyes and place my finger anywhere on the page and be happy with the selection.
If you are unsure, go for brunch. Â Bloody Mary's have the right amount of kick, and the menu has some fun items. Â The Dolce e Lecce were not what i had thought they would be, so it is the only item I've had there that I wasn't wild about.
There is a tomato soup with mini grilled cheese sandwiches...YUM.
The steak, however, is the winner. Â Get the skirt steak if you go for brunch - it is a good amount of steak, perfectly seasoned and cooked, tender, and for the price, it is GREAT value.
Drinks are good, ambience is dark and quiet and intimate. Â
I've dealt with the manager on a few occasions and he is absolutely professional & personable, quite easy to talk to and great listening skills.
I always recommend the MetClub !
Metropolitan Club iis a new fancy steakhouse and Bar. Â They have designer cocktails and stylish lighting and furniture.
On the  Met's menu you find the standard steakhouse items imbellished with gourmet garnishes that are fashionable right now in the city. For starters you must have a Caprese salad with fried green tomatoes, and pan-seared watermelon "steak" with fresh feta.  Popular made-to-order desserts include warm pineapple upside-down cake and molten caramel-filled chocolate cake. The crows is stilish and elegant.
