It is what it is.. Milo's is a casual bar and restaurant . I may be bias since I visit here quite a bit.
Drinks: Great beer selection and full bar. Come in the evening to drink and you have bartenders that really know how to make great shots.
Food: Pizza, Hot Sandwiches, Pasta, Salad. The sandwiches are served with chips. Fries are awesome.. especially cheese fries.
Pizza's are St Louis style thin with provel cheese.
This is a great place to have a private party, the back room which used to be full of games now has additional dining space. This being said if you are coming for dinner and it's a beautiful day you may end up having to wait for a table. Many Friday and Saturday nights the entire backroom is being used for reunions, birthdays etc.
They are closed on Sunday but will entertain opening for a special event if it's worth it.
If you want to play bocce in the garden you need to play in the afternoon or during the weekend. Monday through Thursday evening there is league play.
Quite a cute little bar located on the Hill.
Oh and if you want to try a new sport, it has that too!
Friends of ours had their backroom reserved for a birthday party and we joined them for a few hours of celebrating. Â There was a small food buffet available, as well as unlimited drinks from the bar. Â Plenty of tvs to keep entertained, as well as bocce ball garden outside.

Milo's is a great place. It's understated and looks like you'd expect (and want) most bar and grills to look. I'd not call it a dive like some of the more negative reviews here. It's just a normal, unassuming place. Â Lots of regulars there, tends to skew a little older -- I personally have no problem with that.
The staff is all nice and attentive. I've always had a good experience. The food I've had has been great too -- the steak sandwich hit the spot, the burgers (on cheese garlic bread if you want!) are excellent and, surprisingly, cooked exactly how you ask.
The best part in all of this is the specials. Some of the daily food ones are great and are just good deals. The Blues special they have running right now is wonderful -- 25 cent wings during any Blues game. You can't go wrong there and it doesn't hurt that they have, in my opinion, some of the best wings out there (fried or grilled).
Totally worth the time. If you play your cards right, you'll be surprised by how little you spend and how much fun you have. I can't speak for the outdoor area, but even when it's cold out there's people doing bocce back there.
Cool little bar tucked into the italian neighborhood on the hill with an obvious amount of regulars. Â Plenty of Tv's if that is your thing but they don't take over. Â It appears they do a fair amount of cooking and have daily specials. Â I decided I could not pass up the Italian wedding soup as I love it and was not disappointed and I had a side salad it was you standard italian bowl of iceberg with some spinach tucked in there with cheese and onions the house dressing was a creamy garlic. Â I enjoyed my meal. Â I had a couple short ginger drinks and the hub had the italian sandwich which appeared to be served on a half a loaf of italian bread it was huge and he loved it. Â The bread looked delicious. Â I am not sure of the meat on the italian sandwich. Â It was some type of italian sausage and you dip your sandwich in marinara sauce. Â The selection of beer was nice...they had guiness, chestnut brown, boulevard wheat, were some of the standouts. Â Plenty of families were in there dining. Â My favorite thing was the bow-chee courts. Â We took some drinks out there after eating and played a game--it was so much funt. Â It started to get a little later in the day and they came out and put some firewood in the little fire burner they have and it was wonderful to have the fresh fire smell out in the garden. Â This is a fabulous place. Â I will be going again very soon....as I was to play more bouche ball (pronounced) bow-chee.
Review Source:Okay, you've gotta take Milo's for what it is- a Hill dive with excellent bocce courts, a colorful history and killer wings.
When I was a kid, Milo's was known for "the wall" - a drinking challenge. Â Think "Man vsFood," except it was "Man vs Alcohol." So, 30-odd years later, that obviously doesn't fly... But if you can find a really old Hill resident, they can tell you stories about how Milo's was a hangout for people who knew people back in the really old days, if you know what I mean.
Nowdays, it's a comfortably divey place with a nice patio and cool bocce courts. What elevates it to four stars for me is the totally unpretentious food, that includes a salsiccia sandwich with grilled onions and green peppers, and the best grilled hot wings I have ever had.
So, when you go, just soak up the ambience (or lack thereof), Let the ghosts of the STL's "family" Â keep you company, and order the big basket of grilled wings.
I've found another "thrill" on "The Hill". Â We just blindly headed down to The Hill for lunch and an afternoon of exploring. As we were about to enter another eating establishment we saw Milo's and I quickly checked their star rating on Yelp. Having 4 stars we diverted from our original path and crossed the street to a new adventure.
Being a beautiful autumn day we took advantage and enjoyed our lunch on their huge patio. Being a Monday at lunchtime, no one was playing bocce ball, but it was cool seeing their huge court for playing the sport. I want to come back sometime when the game is being played to see how and what all the excitement is about.
Our lunch started off with Grilled Chicken Wings. They were an nice change from the traditional fried wings you find at most bar & grills. Milo's offers both and I highly recommend paying the extra 80¢ to enjoy them grilled. You'll have the same hot spicy flavor, with grill marks.
I took advantage of the daily special which was a Fried Grouper Sandwich served with Sweet Potato Fries. It was a large thin piece of Grouper with a light breading and served on a toasted bun from Fazio's Bakery. These Sweet Potato Fries are head and shoulders above the quality you get a Pappy's. I appreciated their size, almost a small steak fry, not the normal shoestring or waffle that I normally find  when ordering SP fries.
The SO enjoyed the Milo's Special which is a huge sandwich, so big that half of it went home. It too to served on fresh bread from Fazio's and filled with Roast Beef, Ham, Salami, Provel, Onion, Pickle, Lettuce, Tomato and drizzled with Vinegar & Oil Dressing. You can have it served hot or cold and the SO went hot. Â
They serve their "special" with a bag of chips, but the SO said we could take those home so I can have them in my next brown bag lunch for work and he ordered a regular order of fries. I will tell you, these were crispy delights. They were so good, I am considering creating a list for French Fries.
The wait staff was attentive and fun. I know they can not control the breezes, but be aware smoking is allowed on the patio  and smoke can be blown your way. The bag of chips I mentioned earlier, never made it to my brown bag lunch. They were enjoyed with the portion of the Milo's Special that went home with us.
We seem to gravitate here every year after the memory walk downtown, but we do come here other times as well. I find the vibe here is pretty laid back and it's fun to watch some of the bocce ball tournaments that seem to go on occasion, and it's amusing to see the people get into the game. (myself included here!). The food and drinks are good!
Review Source:When you're in STL for a few short days and have a guest with you, there are a few things you need to show them:

- T-Rav's (aka Toasted Ravioli)
- Provel cheese... if you dare!
Since I didn't grow up in the 'Lou, a lot of these things aren't flowing in my veins, especially Provel cheese. However, I hadn't been in town for over a year and it was pretty fun to re-connect with these local traditions.
We took care of The Arch upon getting into town on July 4. Unfortunately we missed the fireworks due to unforeseen circumstances. But that thing is hard to miss, day or night. Check!
The Budweiser tour was the next day, horses, heat and all. Check!
Tried some gooey butter cake at The Mud House when having breakfast. It was a little old, but got the job done. Check!
Where to get good toasted ravioli? The Hill, of course. Had fond memories of Milo's and thought we could play some bocce ball if there was time.
The good?
- Air conditioning. Much appreciated in the sweltering heat.
- Cold beer on tap.
- Traditional St. Louis-style pizza, although I went for a sandwich and soon regretted it. From what I remember, Milo's has really good pizza. Not too Provel-ish.
The not-so-good?
- Our waitress knew absolutely nothing about the beers on tap. We didn't ask complicated questions, either. The conversation went like this:
Me: "Can you tell me what type of beer the Six Row is?"
Her: "I dunno. I don't drink beer."
Me: "OK, I guess I'll try it."
- Food took FOREVER to come out. For some toasted ravioli, fried cheese balls, an Italian sandwich and plate of spaghetti. Literally over an hour.
- We didn't get to play bocce because it was league night until 9 pm.
- T-ravioli wasn't that awesome.
Overall, a pretty disappointing journey. Milo's has never been known for its stellar customer service but this was pretty bad. I guess if you're a neighborhood regular, you might feel otherwise. Made me kinda wish we'd gone somewhere else.
Milo's is my go-to bar. It's where I go when I want a beer. It's where I go when my wife and I want to get burgers and apps for takeout. It's where we take out-of-towners to eat. It's even where we had my graduation party catered.
Let me describe for you, dear reader, my typical Milo's experience. I'll get a text around 4 o'clock from my wife telling me that she and the work friends are going there for happy hour. I'll meet up with them around 5 and we'll drink the afternoon away. The patio is fantastic and has an authentic "The Hill" bocci ball court. It'll get your shoes dusty, but the game is a ton of fun. I am often ostracized for my poor washers skills, but I can go toe-to-toe with the best bocci players. I don't know what it is.
After a few beers and a few games of bocci, I'll get the check and be shocked, SHOCKED, at how cheap we've been drinking for all afternoon. The prices are so good that someday you'll tell your grandkids about it.
The food, though, is what turns this good bar into a great bar. You've never had cheese balls until you've had Milo's cheese balls. Imagine that euphoric feeling of the first time you legally purchased beer, fell in love, or saw Empire Strikes Back. Take that feeling, mix it with provel, and deep fry it. That is how good these cheese balls are.
Go to Milo's. Make an afternoon of it. Wear old shoes. Play some bocci. Drink some beer. Eat some cheese balls. Marvel at the Saint Louis/Italian culture. Enjoy.
Ah, but one last bit. For some unknown reason, they recently got rid of their Big Buck Hunter arcade game. Why this is, I do not know, but if a Milo's representative is reading this, let it be known that I would like the machine returned, promptly.
I'm not really sure why everyone loves this place. Being new to the hill, I wanted to try as many restaurans as possible.....so I stumbled into this place. The burgers were not good at all and the service was horrible....so horrible in fact that the waitress misplaced my credit card. It was only after I insisted that I gave it to her that she was able to find it. I would recommend going anywhere but this place.

Milo's is on the corner of Wilson and Marconi on The Hill, across the street from Amighetti's Bakery and Cafe and near St. Ambrose Church. Gotta watch the one-way streets. I snared a parking spot quite close.
It was a bit on the early side, but it was clear the patrons were regulars having a good drink.
I had a refreshing gin and tonic with olives . . . and I got FOUR olives. Absolutely stupendous! For $3.75.
We looked at the menu for future reference, and our barmistress was quite knowledgeable about the menu and how dishes were prepared.
We'll go back soon when we have more time. It's probably been 25 years since I've been to Milo's, but another 25 won't pass before I return.
Fun place for drinking and socializing. They have a great beer garden and bocce ball courts for the warm weather!! The food is just ok, I haven't had any food there that impresses me enough to give it a glowing review, but it's not bad either. Had my birthday there one year and reserved an area in the beer garden, It was super fun! They do close the garden earlier than the rest of the bar, which is unfortunate because the inside is rather small and cramped. There is NO parking lot, you have to find street parking, but that is the way the hill area parking is, so it's nothing new to Milo's.
Review Source:I've lived in St. Louis for the past 5 years  and until Milo's, I would still think of my favorite neighborhood bar as "The Landing" back in Wash Mo (where I grew up and visit often). Well, I have found him. My real neighborhood bar is now called Milo's.
Everything you love about The Hill and nothing you don't (except it's closed on Sundays), you feel welcomed by locals and can drench everything in provel. Â In the past month, Â I have been there for beers with the ladies, dinner with the family, dinner with out-of-town friends, and happy hour with coworkers (wow didn't realize I went there that much! :S) Every experience was the perfect, and I mean perfect setting. Laid back, not too crowded, not to empty, mix of ages, great service, killer food. Â
If you are looking for a great pizza and pub grub place. You've found it. I found it and apparently found a new addiction.
My suggestion: The deluxe pizza, but switch out one of the meats with bacon. You're welcome.
So I am probably very biased here, but Milo's may be the best bar in STL. First off, it is located at my favorite intersection in the city. The Corner of Marconi and Wilson. NE corner is Amighetti's Deli which has been making unbelievable sandwiches since Jesus wore short pants. On the SE corner you have the beautiful St. Ambrose Church, along with the famous statue of the Italian immigrants. On the SW Corner you have Gelato Del Riso which is owned by a good friend of mine and serves the best gelato west of Rome. And finally  MIlo's Bocce ball and Tavern is on the NW corner.
This place is a great gem in STL. First off it has one of the best outside patio area's around. It has a fulled covered, 2 lane Bocce Ball court that is a blast to play on. The neighborhood has become much more, shall we say, "outsider friendly" and you can even sign up for leagues there in the summer, without being a neighborhood guy.
The inside is fun and it gets rocking every night. There is a great local flavor here and you are going to run into some great characters. Drinks are very strong and bartenders/owners are wonderful people.
If you like STL style provel thin crust, then you will love the pizza. Also don't be afraid to order the grilled wings and the steak sando. Both are excellent.
Best story from Milo's:
I was pre-gaming here with friends before Game 6 of the World Series and as we were leaving to head downtown, a group of 8-10 Rangers fans were seated inside at a table. My friend and I took a big "double take" and i think I said, "Holy shit" as in that was the last thing I expected to see. Noticing my surprise and disgusted look they start laughing and one of the guys says with a certain amount of South of the Mason Dixon line smugness...
"Keep walking, we also brought our guns from Texas"
Without missing a beat, a regular who will remain nameless happened to be walking to the bathroom, stops and says
"Don't worry, our guns are bigger and we know the spots to bury you with lime in the back room where everything will disappear, including that gay F&^#*#ing cowboy hat. Enjoy the game"
I wish I could have snapped a photo on the collective look at the table. Classic. Ended up coming back here after Game 7 and closed the place down. This place is a surefire can't miss for any true St. Louisan.
This past weekend I donned my plaid pants and vintage shirt and made the trip to Milo's Tavern on The Hill for what I hoped would be some Bocce-ball filled action! Sadly this trip wasn't nearly as enjoyable as my first visit to Milo's.
Milo's has all the makings of a good time - decent food, a great patio and most of all two bocce-ball courts. Though my friends at the Italian-American Bocce Club would call Milo's "dirt-ball" or something similarly degrading (in good fun) I can still have fun playing on a dirt court like a commoner.
So Milo's has a policy that you need 25 folks to reserve a Bocce court. T-W-E-N-T-Y F-I-V-E !!
Me: "Hello, is this Milo's?"
Milo employee: "Why yes it is!"
Me: "Well then, myself and 24 of my best-est chums would like to reserve your finest bocce-ball court!"
How often does that happen?
I get it; there are only two courts available and Milo's claim to fame are those same two courts. They've got to work those courts like a high-dollar call girl works a pair of stilettos.
The problem comes in the execution. When my group arrived at Milo's (we did call early that afternoon and told that only one court was reserved) one court was wide open only we weren't allowed to play. Why? "Well there's a large group coming for a birthday celebration and they've got the court" was the response. Hours later and the court sat empty and with nary a bocce-ball rolled. Annoying.
All that said the surly staff isn't doing Milo's any mileage in customer service either. Our waitress aside from having a slight resemblance to Snooki from Jersey shore was also prone to some ill-timed eye rolling when answering questions about the bocce courts. She also had the uncanny knack to always interrupt our conversation. The barkeep inside retorted "we don't serve bullshit like that here" when my buddy asked for a round of Goldschlager shots. Oh my! Excuse me Vincenzo I didn't realize where I was! Milo's is clearly too classy for Goldschlager.
It sucks to be hungry past 10pm in most places, because usually there's slim pickings. Lucky us to find Milo's recently when we were too busy to grab dinner and then lo and behold, the dreaded 10 o'clock hour was upon us.
I loved a Milo's once. It existed on Lorimer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and featured VFW ambiance in a basement setting. It was owned and operated by two Italian American octogenarians (She waited tables. He cooked. Once he cooked and brought the pizza out to us and this made his wife yell at him something fierce). They died. Milo's closed. An era ended. Molto sadness.
But that's besides the point. On to my review for Milo's in Saint Louis. It does the name some justice!
First of all...Bocce ball. In a Midwestern city that isn't Chicago? Pinch me, I'm dreaming, for Milo's not only has bocce ball, but they have a fierce competitive series going on that started last month. I have fond memories of watching my grandpa and uncles playing bocce ball.
I wouldn't call Milo's an Italian restaurant. Think more like an Italian American Tavern that has a modest menu of sandwiches and pasta dishes. You won't be getting anything amazing here, but they
get the g-damn sauce just right, which is more than I can say for many Italian restaurants that put sugar in the sauce (blech).
Warning: toasted ravioli have meat! Which had me guessing the regular portion of ravioli on the menu has meat instead of cheese. Not sure if that's common in Saint Louis. My friend wasn't too thrilled with the T ravs, as she claimed they were really bland, but the fried pepper jack cheese provided more than enough flavor. That's right. I ate fried cheese and at 10:30 at night, this along with a decent veggie sub did just fine to curb my hunger.
Given the place reminds me of traditional Italian joints in Brooklyn/Queens/LI (padded vinyl and fake wood paneled walls, oh yes!) plus they have bocce ball and serve up food til late, and that we had the sweetest waitress ever, I've decided I love this place and will make it a point to return next time I'm in Saint Louis!

Each visit- The pride and acceptance is felt here (even though I went to public high school). There are people that know each other & their complete life's so I know I am not part of the "family"... but that is what makes this place so interesting.
The patrons, bar and patio have authentic character or are characters with the bonus of watching Bocce (I never played).
Great place! If its 65-85 degrees you cant pick a better place to go start a night out. Huge patio and Bocce ball courts.
I have to give them a HUGE shout out for how helpful they were with my parents 30th wedding anniv party. Â I called alot of bars/restaurants and everyone was giving me these up front reservation fees and per person charges. Â Called Milo's and they said no problem how many people and what kind of food do you want. Â Blocked off an area out back and had a waitress helping us all night, it was awesome and my parents had a blast. Â I would recommend anyone use them for a party.
This a nice simple place to chill and drink. It has a cool bocce ball court and some more popular bar/arcade games. The prices were affordable and the drinks were good. They have a few really cool local breweries and they have some really good beers. The reason for my 3 star rating was the food, it was hit or miss. The St. Luis style pizzas are just not my thing. Â The appetizers were good enough and the rest of the sandwiches were pretty good. All in all, a decent little bar and grill but nothing to spectacular.

Review Source:What a GREAT spot for dinner, drinks and KIDS. We headed over after a stop at the zoo and arrived around 5 pm.
We walked through the (smokey) bar, and grabbed a few tables outside. Patio is big, service from GINA was EXCELLENT, and food is really high quality and quite tasty. Kids loved being able to play in the 2 full size bocce courts (and the little guys especially loved rolling around in the dirt/rocks).
While they were busy, we were busy chowing down on EXCEPTIONAL Toasted Ravs, excellent pizzas and boring salads (not me). As I mentioned Gina provided great service, and we always had full beers, wines, and drinks for the kids. Decent bathrooms inside and plenty of video games.....
Great spot to meet family or friends for dinner.....I WILL RETURN!

Milo's is a neighborhood bar with many TVs, ample seating, typical Saint Louis bar food, and a great patio with bocce courts. Â I prefer Milo's in the summer as the patio and bocce separate Milo's from other bars.
I have a friend that is Sicilian and she and her family always end up here for birthdays, holidays, etc.
Until further notice, this is my favorite bar on The Hill. In fact, it is probably my favorite bar in all of St. Louis. The only problem is that it was 14 degrees yesterday and I don't play winter bocce.
Growing up an Italian kid in an Italian neighborhood in Cleveland, all we did at family functions was play bocce. My dad and I were even in a league with a bunch of 60-70 something year old Italians (team name = Ball Busters) once our rec center put in some courts similar to these. I still haven't mastered the court game, but we plan on being there plenty this spring once the weather breaks so I'm going to try.
This is a fun place to go for a drink or for lunch or dinner. Â The fare is "pub," but it's inexpensive and, as I mentioned, fun. Â I went there with my wife and her department from the school where she works. Â We played bocci, had a few beers and just enjoyed an evening with friends.
Review Source:Milo's is the one place (besides the A-B brewery, because that's sort of given) that I will absolutely force all of my out-of-town visitors to see when they're in St. Louis.
The bocce courts were what piqued my interest -- two courts, with sand that banks just a little bit differently each time (which is great, and makes the game just a bit more challenging), and often friendly spectators who are happy to challenge you to a match. I haven't tried the league play yet, but Brandon C and I might just have to see about signing up.
Besides the bocce, the beers are reasonably priced, and the food is quite good. I'd put Milo's in my top 10 places to get toasted rav, and their Milo's Special sandwich is awesome. The bread is really fantastic, and way better than the kind you find on sandwiches in most bars.
I started going to Milo's back in 2000. I was a regular for lunch, then eventually started coming in the evenings to either a) watch the game or b) place bocce ball.
This is a great neighborhood bar, no frills and everyone is always helpful. For me the best thing to eat here is the pizza. They serve thin crust pizza with a variety of toppings. And this is great for lunch b/c they will have you out for under an hour, plus you can get a small personalized pizza so no worries on splitting.
Milos is also fantastic in the evenings for Bocce Ball, but don't come too late or you will miss out as the courts close around 10:30.
Love the bocce ball courts though they're not level, which kinda affects gameplay. Â But we don't have bocce in Chicago, so I won't complain too much. Â I need activities at bars and this was perfect. Â An amazing atmosphere. Â The patio is huge but it closed at 10:30pm. Â A big bummer. Â I had a few Stag bottles as I'm a huge fan of crappy beers. Â Another thing that threw me off is that they have a Boulevard Beer sign out on the patio yet don't serve it. Â False advertising. Â The huge patio and bocce ball courts more than make up for these negatives. Â Also, St. Louis, enact a smoking ban already!
Review Source:So I went here for the first time the other day with a group of friends after have the place recommend by my friend's parents. So we went there and we had a good time. Why did we have such a good time, BOCCE BALL! Yes, that is correct, they have bocce ball.
Of course along with playing ball we also had a nice tasty pizza and some tasty drinks as well. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Milo's is a casual restaurant, bar, and beer garden located on the Hill. It's  surrounded by an Italian bakery, a church, Italian shops, salons and bungalow homes.
Inside it looks like a bar with five TVs and a game room with pinball, darts, foosball and a jukebox. Â The crowd generally consists of 3rd-4th generation Italians, locals and young adults Â
They serve typical pub grub like wings, burgers, pizza, sandwiches and St. Louis toasted ravs. Â But, nothing really stands out on the menu. Â
What does stand out is the beer garden and famous bocce courts. Â The bocce courts are out back on a large, enclosed patio. they have leagues and individuals can play when the courts are available. Â If you have 25+ people you can reserve the court. Â
I had one bad experience planing an event there. Â I had reserved the garden and courts, but no one wrote it down or claimed responsibility for taking the call. Â In the end they accomodated me (minus the court). Â Overall, my experiences there have been good. Â I really enjoy sitting outside with friends, when wether permits.
If you are in the mood for good bar food, decently priced drinks, and bocce, it's really the only place to go in St. Louis. Â The wait for a court can take a while on some nights, but it's totally worth it. Â And in the summer it's just as nice to sit outside and enjoy the evening on the patio while watching the old men play each other anyway.
