Went to Hershey park with family and wanted something other than fast food or something in the park. Â Did a little research and discovered Molly Branigans. What a pleasant surprise! Â Great service And great food! Â My son loved the pretzel appetizer and grilled cheese. My wife and I loved our sandwiches. Next time we visit Hershey, we will go to Molly's again.
Review Source:Mike the bartender was great and personable.  Tap drinks were cold.  That's about all of the good things I can say.  The fish and chips were probably the worst  I've ever had.  The batter was thick, doughy and EXTREMELY greasy.  I couldn't eat it.  I pulled batter off and ate the fish.  Fries tasted like they hadn't changed the grease in a while.  I would go back for drinks, but would think twice about eating dinner there again.
Review Source:service was great, waitress was pleasant and fast.
the sticky tables were ok - one would expect that in an Irish Pub. I tried the vegetable boxty. holy god yuck. i don't know how you mess up roasted veggies but they managed, and it was lacking the fancy basil sauce the menu touted. i settled on onion rings and guinness, both of which were safe bets. like other reviews have stated - good place to drink beer and be around good people but the food is not the best.
This is a nice, open-spaced Irish pub with friendly waiters and quick drinks. Â It's non-smoking, which I consider a glowing positive.
The food is decent to better than decent pub food as they have more than the standard fried offerings, including a few decent salads, although unfortunately they are in the typical Central PA add candied nuts and/or cheese vein.
Highlight of this bar is that they have Pub Trivia every Wednesday night and it becomes a very fun, lively place to be.
Visited Saturday evening, 4/7/12 with a group of 6; was there from about 7 to 10.
GOOD:
- Service...attentive and friendly!
- Specials...BOGO apps, $4 bombs, 1/2 price liquor, etc. were all nice
- Decor and ambiance...typical Irish pub style, very appealing
- Food...one of the few places I've ever had PROPERLY cooked fried calamari! Blarney Stones (basically Reuben balls) were delicious too. We had some app sampler platters and everything was good, nothing really special but nothing to complain about.
BAD:
- Music...everything was good until about 9, then the DJ showed up and proceeded to blast the whole place with a million decibels of atrocious pop mixes, which no one was even dancing to anyway! I don't mind music at bars but you couldn't even hold a conversation with people at your table because of Lady Gaga and Kesha blowing our your eardrums.
- The crowd...seems to attract loud-and-rowdy groups. If that's your scene, then you'll be fine...I'm not all about that, though. Surprisingly, there weren't as many people there as I expected, overall.
Came here to meet some friends for drinks and dancing on a Saturday night. Despite the crowd the bartenders were super quick and pretty nice. The music was beyond "too loud" and the dj sucked. My ears were ringing the ride home from listening to his garbage mashups at over 9000 decibels.
I will come back to try lunch!
Note: I was here in May 2011.
I went here for a client lunch, so I did not get to experience the bar or beer selection. The bar seemed nice, however, and I could foresee myself coming here to have a drink before I considered coming back for the food.
The service was good, our waiter was attentive and they accepted a reservation for 8. Our table was ready when we arrived.
I generally eat pretty healthy, so I gravitate towards healthy options on a menu. There are not many at Molly Brannigans, which isn't surprising considering it's an Irish Pub. I can't speak to the traditional pub food as I ordered the salmon, which was OK at best, nothing special.
The other meals my colleagues ordered looked decent, pretty much average quality bar food. One of them ordered a wrap with no honey mustard and had to send it back because it came with honey mustard. The server apologized and promptly brought him a new wrap.
Based off my single dining experience here, I'd say come for the beer and bar atmosphere, but you'll find better food in Harrisburg elsewhere.
We went here once for lunch (myself and other Commonwealth employees). We sat at the bar, but service was dreadfully slow. Like, we waited half an hour. The food was severly overpriced, and very mediocre. But mostly, it was just slower than a snail. We had to gulp down some of our food and then take the rest back or we'd be late AND WE HAD AN HOUR.
Utterly ridiculous.
Friendly staff! As soon as my husband and I sat down at the bar the bartender was right there to take our order! Suggested good beer for both of us and had it in front of us in less than 2 minutes!
Ordered food, which was ok. The nachos are a little bland, but hey, it was bar food ;-)
Good atmosphere, great service, will definitely go back just for the service if we ever pass thru Harrisburg again!
My stepdaughter is now an adult and lives in VA with her fiancé. Every summer I meet her somewhere between NY and VA with her younger siblings. This year we chose Harrisburg. My only regret was not discovering Molly's sooner in our time spent there. What an awesome experience we had, not to mention incredibly delicious food (bangers & mash, fish & chips, and cheeseburger and buffalo chicken wrap).  We (5 of us) were all completely satisfied with our meals and our server was kind and good spirited. The beer combos were interesting and delish. We took a tuna sandwich 'home' to our hotel room for one who stayed behind. It didn't stand a chance. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from him and from the other five of us as well. Thank you Molly's we will come back!
Review Source:Laid back pub atmosphere, standard Irish pub menu and selections on tap. Since it is in Harrisburg a seasonal Tröegs is regularly featured.
Came here since it was right next to the hotel; downtown Harrisburg has some real characters wandering around so didn't want to venture too far on foot with darkness descending (I was just asked for a cigarette by the world's worst cross-dresser! Oh, what a wonderful world!)
It was also crazy hot outside and this place does not have an open storefront, sweet A/C.
I am a sucker for the basic bangers and mash; nicely plated and served piping hot. Friendly service, no rush, I approve!
This is not a place I would ever attempt to eat at or recommend to anyone else for dining purposes, but if you're looking for a rowdy and young audience to party with until last call this is the place for you. It's loud and packed on drinking nights, not to mention expensive.
I do really like the set up, it's got two bars and opens up onto both 2nd and Walnut Streets. The interior is about as Irish as you could make a bar, actually pretty nice if you take the time to appreciate the place during the regular daytime hours.
My first review. Â Sorry if it sounds too negative. Â
Wife and I stopped by MB's for a pre-concert happy hour last night. Â We just wanted to find a spot to swill a couple of Guinness and have an appetizer. Â Atmosphere was typical new-school Irish, nicely decorated, annoying music and all. Â Price was right (ONLY reason for the 2nd star).
Happy hour was 5pm to 7pm. Â We arrived at 6. Â Sat at the bar without problem, place was not by any means packed or too busy. Â Immediately ordered our beers and Buffalo Shrimp appetizer from our bartender. Â Quickly killed our beers which were refilled by a manager who was helping out the bartender, who was for some reason MIA. Â 6:30 arrives and still no appetizer. Â My happy hour is becoming unhappy. Â 6:40 appetizer arrives, strangest version of Buffalo shrimp I've ever seen. Â Non-seasoned small peel-and-eat shrimp with a side of a ranch/wing sauce combo. Â Not horrible, but odd, and not particularly good. Â Meanwhile, or second round is toward the end. Â Bar clock says 6:40. Â "Actual" time is closer to 6:50. Â We spend 20 minutes trying to make eye contact with bartender who, when at the bar, is serving folks who are walking up for take-away drinks. Â She doesn't even look in our direction for the last 20 minutes of happy hour. Â
At 6:59pm, bar time, she finally looks in our direction and asks if we would like our check. Â "Actually" I ask, "Is it still happy hour?" Â To which, OF COURSE, she replies, "No." Â I ordered another round anyway. Â
I may not have the appearance of a good tipper, but I really appreciate good service and tip well for it. Â I cannot remember the last time I left a 10% tip, maybe never in my life, but that is what I left the young lady at Molly Brannigan's last night. Â The service was appalling and she had no business behind the bar. Â
Last visit to Molly Brannigan's.
The seating arrangements were certainly not ideal. I was in a group of four and where we were seated I had someone so close behind me we could have leaned up against each other. They need a couple less tables. The food on the other hand was great. I did not like we got our appetizer the same time as our meals, but the food was good. I just had a burger, but damn it was a really good burger. I would definitely try this place out again.
Review Source:This place has the best deals on appetizers during happy hour - often walking around with sampler plates to let you try out their fried fish, calamari, or coconut shrimp. Â I've eaten here 3 times, and I've been satisfied every time. Â
The reuben sandwich is tasty ... as is the fish and chips. Â There's a turkey sandwich (Rachel something?) that looked awfully good when a friend got that.
