American Legion Post 733

I am a member and I won't be biased.  The American Legions do a lot for us veterans and families but on this review I am focusing on adult extra curricular activities that are provided at most posts throughout the USA.

I can't believe I'm writing a review on a somewhat private club but here it goes.

During the day this is a quiet place where many veterans of the area converse and recolect thier sacrifices that they made for this country.

But at night on the weekends...This is a joint. Period.

It has the flavor of those "speak easies" from the 20's-70's with a small neighborhood bar look (ie the Anti-Cheers).

If you want to get your "hip-hop, oldies, funk (and I do mean funk) on this is the place. Yes, the crowd ranges from great grand mama's to barely legal baby mama's but it is one of the safest places to party believe it or not.

With strict policies and a wide range of personnel, it remains the staple for late and after hours music, drink and eats in urban Harrisburg. It is a members only-like most Legions, but this is maintained by mostly natives of Hbg and generations of family members.

It is a smokey juke joint with some of the better all around DJ's in the burg. I mean original DJ's who know the city flow.

Don't be fooled by the appearance though it is a bit run down. It is a place you'd have to try at least once preferably on a Saturday night after 11pm. You can get an associate membership, auxiliary, and if you were in the US armed forces a regular membership.

The drinks are cheap (on the avg about $3.50 for mid to top shelf beer and drinks) however, don't expect to get a "fuzzy navel" there or any exotic drink outside the realm of central PA.

Pros: If you want real hood flavor this is better that anything downtown for the exception of Jamrock on Cameron without the young wannabe thugs. The look can be intimidating to those outside of urban Hbg or  to those who are not minorities, but it is a good mix of people there and rarely are there fights (its been around longer than me so that should tell you something). Drinks are 1/2 to 1/3rd of the places downtown. Multiple dance floors. Located on Midtown- Uptown border.

Cons: It's in "D'a hood". Restrooms aren't fit for a bum. If you like seedy dark smoke filled places this is your spot. It is an acquired taste but it is no better than your neighborhood bar. Run down in some spots and boy does it get a crowd on Saturday late. Like most downtown clubs, hard to get a drink on peak hours. Parking sucks bad as its mostly on street or in a dirt lot. Bad neighborhood bars in the area. You need a membership or know someone with one.
