Points for being open on Saturdays. Seriously, lots of places in the Loop close on Saturday but this is not one of them.
What else can be said? It is Potbellys. Food is pretty standard. I enjoy both the sandwiches and salads. I also enjoy the variety of beverages and chips.
Staff is professional and pleasant.
And if you work at 55 W Monroe you can eat here without having to leave the building. Very helpful when you forget to bring lunch and the weather is nasty.
I've only been in this Potbelly's during the hell blazes of lunch hour, and the line gets crazy. It moves quick and the staff is friendly as what you'd expect...which is like, really friendly! Have you ever encountered a real dbag employee at Potbelly's? Let's be real: no. They're all nice, and if you don't think they are nice, you're wrong and YOU'RE MEAN!
So why the three stars? I don't know if we're in like a bad meat economy, but I feel skimped whenever I get a sandwich from here. Is it a bear market for turkey and salami? Idk. I'm not even a huge meat monger, but for reals! Slap some more turkey on that sandwich! There's like 2 baby slices on it and I can't even taste it in the sea of bread and amazing hot peppers.
The end.
This Potbelly is conveniently located in my office, which is great for when I forget to bring my lunch or am craving their yummy sandwiches. Â We've also had it delivered to our office whenever we have long work meetings and get lunch on the boss.
The sandwiches are absolutely amazing. Â They are the perfect bread to meat ratio and the bread is super yummy. Â I also enjoy their selection of soups, shakes and salads. Â Also, for those who don't want to each too much, they offer skinny sandwiches which are nice as well.
Everyone working there seems very upbeat and friendly. Â And also, they have a stage up top where performers play live music.
I love Potbelly's. This is a great location for lunch in the Loop because (well for me) it's very convenient; the service is quick, efficient, and friendly; and as always the food is fresh and delicious! I especially love the sandwiches and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies...mmm...now I am already hungry again! Might pop over right now...
Review Source:Okay....I'm hooked on Potbelly. Can you tell with the back to back reviews? This Potbelly was super though with tall ceilings, big space, and fast service. Â They didn't have any music (live or on their stereo) though. Â They currently have a great special on gift cards. Buy a $25 gift card and get a ticket for yourself (or a friend) for a free sandwich. Love it!
Review Source:Apparently this is a staple lunch spot in Chicago. Â On a recent business trip we stopped in for a deli style sandwich. Â I got the turkey sandwich and it was fantastic. Â Kinda hard to screw up a turkey sandwich but still, this was great. Â It's your typical deli style diner but with one small twist. Â
I'm not sure if it might be just the day we were there, but there was live music during lunch that day. Â That's a cool way to differentiate yourself as a restaurant and I love spots that stand out from the rest. Â Good job Potbelly! Â
Service was quick and they really know how to get you in and out considering it was slammed during lunch hour.
I wonder why this Potbelly location *only* receives 3-1/2 stars? Â What's not to like about 'em? Â
Service is always friendly & fast. Â During rush hour (lunch, mostly) - there's always a talented musician playing piano or guitar or something else while you're enjoying your sub. Â
Warm-toasted sub with awesome condiments (their peppers and pickles are to die for).
Reasonable price. Â They also have lunch combo. Â A sub and a cup of soup which is hard to resist during cold months. Â (that must be the reason why I went up a couple of my pants' size).
Cold-flavorful shakes and tons of variety of cold soft-drinks for those hot summer weather.
Oh, and giant size cookies.
Once again, what's not to like?
Fun experiment: Order a regular sized sandwich and an Orangina. Nothing else. What does the register say? If the Potbelly's you are visiting is anywhere in the city your total will be $6.66; sign of the beast!
Be that as it may, this is one of the better Potbelly's in the Loop. I come here all the time, but never during the lunch rush (are you people insane?). I like coming here after 5 pm because it's empty and quiet and they are open late. And the big windows are perfect for people watching.
So here's the deal. I like their sandwiches, I really do (except for that NASTY Turkey Rae I tried once). My favorite sandwich by far is the Italian on regular bread. It is a magical sandwich that has the power to make me very happy. I also like their desserts. Awesome shakes, delicious cookies, and my new favorite, muffin tops!
Yay for decent, affordable food. That is all.
On my last visit to Chicago for a concert with my husband, we stopped by this comfy sandwich diner. Their sandwiches were so good that we had to order one to go! We had their Turkey breast and "A Wreck" (salami, roast beef, turkey & ham with swiss cheese). I don't know what they put in these sandwiches but we couldn't stop eating. I wish we had a New York location! Their chocolate shake includes a vanilla cookie on top. So good with the sandwiches! This beats Panera and all other sub places. Although, the counter is an assembly line, you order and rush, the sandwiches are worth the wait and hassle! It changed my outlook of a sandwich. I wish, I was back there already!
Review Source:I know, I know, Potbelly is Potbelly! But this one is close to work and that counts for a lot in my book :) Â And as far as loop lunches go, it's probably one of the better deals out there (aside from the Subway sandwich of the day perhaps). Â While the line sometimes get long in the lunch rush, it seems to move quickly and there's usually a table available unlike other locations. Â Nice music to eat by.
Yum yum I like Potbelly. Â (Yea, somewhat useless review, oh well :))
I don't recommend everyone try this but let me tell you a little story.
Yesterday was a very busy and frantic day and at lunch I decided to stick close to the office so I figured I'd make a mad dash to Potbelly across the street.
I walked in and waited in line, ordered my sandwich and shake and debated about chips. Â Then I got my toppings on my sandwich and headed towards the register. Â When I went to get my wallet out of my purse I remembered I had taken it out and didn't put it back in. Â I was horrified, shocked and a wee embarrassed. Â I asked if they would hold my sandwich and I would come right back with my wallet. Â Mind you I had been waiting in line for about 15-20 minutes.
The manager was standing there and said it would take to long to delete the order from the register so he gave me my sandwich and drink for free! Â Yes that's right for FREE! Â I was again in shock and also a wee embarrassed. The manager seemed to be in good humor about it and said he would remember next time. Â And I have no doubt that he won't remember me. Â I just hope I don't ever EVER forget my wallet again.
This place is right across the street from my office so I've been a couple of times, but I don't really understand the local obsession with Potbelly's. It's ok but I don't get the craving for it that my coworkers seem to have. They do a good job of getting you through the line quickly though and the prices are reasonable.
Review Source:Sometimes you have to work in The Loop, you know? Â
I mean, eventually your nihilism and black clunker boots are going to give way to adulthood or Paxil or whatever and you're going to wear a tie and/or a cardigan (which, depending on which type of disaffected youngster you are, you might be already). Â
When that time comes you will realize preparing your lunch every day and bringing it to work in your stylish messenger bag or sleek attache case is sometimes impossible or gets balsamic vinaigrette all over your TPS reports.
Enter Potbelly. Â All 324,875 of them located in Chicago's Loop District.
Sure, you could go to Panda Express or that freakish multinational conglomerate of comestibles in Chase Plaza but at the hideously decorated GM factory of lunch we call Potbelly you will get something truly unique. Â Namely, a good sized sandwich stuffed with more fucking meat than you could ever need for under $6.
Seriously. Â Double turkey on wheat with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and hot peppers will run you $5.89 after tax. Â And it will land in your bellylike a meat brick and stay there for days leaving you sated and sweaty for all the world like a postcoital afterglow.
Normally a postcoital afterglow will run you $50, easy.
Sure, they're a chain and sure, they're busy as Hell and sure, they have so many insipid signs about horseshit or milkshakes or God alone knows what but it isn't about  your fey ideals or your staunch anticonglomerate speeches or the degradation of corporate wage-slavery.
It's about lunch, God damn it. Â Cheap lunch that will fill you up so you can get back to shilling for The Man. Â And in that particular category, my little crusaders for social justice and vegan leather jackets, Potbelly owns you. Â Potbelly looks at your Parliament Lights and American Apparel deep-v undershirt lurking beneath your oxford collar button-down and scoffs, content in the fact that given time all your prattle and shifting philosophies will lie down and grab their knees before the eternal, inescapable and laughing face of hunger.
... might as well just get a sandwich.
I once sent an email to Potbelly headquarters to express my undying love for their sandwiches. Â I was living in California at the time and was in desperate need for Potbelly to expand westward. Â
I have since moved to Chicago. Â
This Potbelly is in the building I live in, thus making it the most wonderful Potbelly in the world.
I only go to Potbelly's to make my dad jealous. I kid, I kid. I kind of got my dad hooked on Potbelly sandwiches when my brother & I took our parents to one in Dallas last year. Because that location is closer to my parents, they only get to Potbelly's once every few months when they make a day trip to Dallas. My parents have yet to experience the long lunch lines that go out the door and the order system of how this place works:
Employee: MISS...MISS...Yes, you in the black coat. What are you having today?
Me: *ahem* (attempting to yell and not scream into the ear of the guy standing next to me...I'm soft spoken), uh CHICKEN SAAAALLLAAD.
Employee: Wheat or Regular?
Me: Regular
*wait wait wait...move forward about 5 inches/5 min...determine how many people put their business card in the fish bowl...decide if I want to put in my card in there too... wait...move forward...raise up to my tip-toes so employee can see me (sadly, i'm about the same height as the countertops...why do they make the counters so tall?)*
I then proceed to tell what I want on my sandwich, which isn't much, and go pay. That's it. Nothing exciting. Potbelly's has decent sandwiches, and I guess I see why it might be worth something if I didn't have it as lunch/dinner option every day...not that I eat it everyday...gross.
Best time to get a sandwich here...that is, if you can wait that long for lunch? I'd say about 1:15-1:30ish. Also, I believe this location is one of a few places in the loop that's open on Saturday...at least it used to when I've worked on the weekends.
I rarely go to Potbelly's as a matter of fact this is really the only one that I ever go. The average food/portions are just not worth it to me as there are better places for sandwiches in the Loop.
When I do go here I am always there around 5:45 PM. Â The place is always empty and quiet. So you know what I think of the food but there is one guy behind the counter who always asks me at least twice what i want on my sandwich. Â Grrrrr... Â I tell the guy who takes my order, I tell the guy who makes my order and then the guy who makes my order asks me again ALWAYS!
The loaded baked potato soup was a pleasant surprise!
I've had potbelly a handfull of times. I've had their Shakes - once.
I loved it. There were chunks of strawberries and it didn't taste syrupy at all.
There was a super long line, but when they found out I'm just ordering a shake - I went straight to the register. Yey. I'd definitely go back there just for the shake. Maybe sandwiches too.
Typically, I love my lunchtime forays to Potbelly's for cheapo, somewhat healthy fast food (turkey on skinny wheat, no mayo, delish!), but today was not the case. Â
First of all, Ms. HeavyBlackEyeliner (which, p.s. sweetheart, is not cute, not on Fall Out Boy, not on you) skipped over me in line when it was time to order. Â So when I let the lady who DID get to order go in front of me, she realized that maybe she had missed someone... ME! Â It wasn't even busy. Â Christ all mighty, the line had 10 people in it, which is NOTHING for Potbelly's. Â And her attitude which followed = not cool.
Also, I was a big fan of the buffoons in line behind me. Â Note: Â If you are 60+, it is not funny if you start yelling for soup pretending to be an employee. Â Well, maybe it would have been. Â If I weren't in a foul mood.
Like the guitar player's selection of music though, and the food IS pretty tasty. Â But still, only two stars for you!
Bah humbug, I'm sticking to my Lean Pockets in the office freezer.
