This place is the Hell's Angels clubhouse for the SUV stroller set.
The big back room is perfect for parking your double wide strollers from hell so your precious little vermin can terrorize anyone else that enters the place. Â God forbid you make your lovely little monsters actually walk or teach them any manners.
Disclaimers:
1) I love Potbelly sandwiches, but not this much.
2) Before you call me a kid hater, I raised two daughters that are productive members of society that say please and thank you... Â good luck with your little brats.
Hands down, the best Potbellies I've had. Maybe because I go every single Saturday since I've moved to Lakeview, but I have made friends with the delivery guy as well as the employees there on the Saturday morning shift. There is a particular girl who has purple hair who I hold dear to my heart as she complimented me on my dreads one morning where I felt like hell in a handbag. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious, especially on a cold winter morning.
Only catch, delivery is $10 minumum so I end up buying my roomies breakfast too. God they must love me.
Within walking distance from where we live. Â Tables and chairs for eating outside in the beautiful spring sun. Â No harsh lights inside! Â Haven't heard the guitar guy yet...
Service was oddly slow (weekday, 11:30 am). Â Took several minutes to fix a turkey 'wich and a roast beef 'wich. Â Wondered what they'd do during a real lunch bunch crunch. Â But no worries.
Downer: Â No fountain drinks. Â (Cashier-guy looked at my Darling oh-so-funnily - as if he'd never heard of a fountain drink before - and jerked his head toward the case with canned pop, etc.) Â Order-taker-guy was nice and called me "Miss" which for some reason made me giggle. Â
Sandwiches ($4.19) were tasty, with enough meat, and the lightly toasted buns were just right. Â Love the little bags of chips - salt and vinegar, yummm - standing in their little cubbies, calling my name). Â All in all, a nice little lunch that's easy on the wallet.
Beyond Potbelly being one of my favorite sandwich shops, and this being in my neighborhood, this particular Potbelly will always hold a special place in my heart. You see, I love bacon. And I firmly believe that any type of food on earth can be made better by simply adding bacon. All of my previous trips to Potbelly had been pleasant results, but one day on Southport, while ordering a Wreck, the man behind the counter suggested adding bacon. I don't know why I hadn't previously thought of this on my own. It was amazing. His simple suggestion, and free bacon for that day, has probably led to Potbelly making an additional hundred dollars on me over the past five years as I haven't ordered a wreck sans bacon since.
Review Source:Like all Potbelly's the sandwiches are as addictive as crack.
Reason this one gets a five-star from me is the live music. Great guitar player there today playing mellow (but not too mellow) music and singing.
When they get busy with party orders, it can be a drag--tend to ignore the customers in the store for those who ordered online. So...order online I guess. But, would give the service a three or four star because of it.
The food is just as good as the other Potbellys I have been to. Â What I like the most about this store is that it is so much bigger than the others I have been in. Â The room in the back is great for studying in the middle of the afternoon since its pretty quiet during non-peak hours. Â You can easily fill up on those yummy cookies doing that.
My only complaint is that they don't have fountain sodas. Â Cans suck.
I had to add this location because it's my fav-o-rite (in addition to the Deerfield one I frequent during work). Â Potbelly rules!!
Nothing beats a well-made, custom-ordered sandwich from this place. Â The chili beats anything I've had at any restaurant EVER. Â And the shakes (I love it when they yell 'Chocolate Sha-ake!'), are wonderful concoctions sent down from heaven.
It can become a bit crazy sometimes with all the yuppie mamas toting their screaming children around (I'm sure I'll become one of those someday - sigh), but there seems to always be a courtyard outside each location to which you can escape, and you can often listen to local artists' soothing tunes to put you back in a peaceful mood.
This is not your average fast-food joint - check it out if you've never been!
