Finally got around to trying this place out recently! It was a warm, sunny day, and a nice, cold beer was in due order.
Cozy little German-themed tavern located between the Alaskan and Admiral junctions in West Seattle. The beer, for the most part, is exclusively German, and includes such staples as Franziskaner Weisse, and Ayinger Celebrator. There's also something awesomely appropriate about being able to order most beers here in a liter size!
I didn't get to try any of the food (I had already eaten beforehand), but the menu is fairly limited. It's basic German fare, such as pretzels and wurst.
Another awesome thing about this bar - punch cards! You can earn prizes over time just for coming in for a beer.
I enjoyed my visit here, and will be back at some point. Not much in the way of German-themed bars or restaurants around Seattle, so this place is a nice breath of fresh air.
This place was awesome. It was very spacious and I guess kids were able to eat there too. Not a fan of that aspect, but if I can get some beer without them screaming and running around like a mad man, I'm cool with it.
I knocked down one star but it was because on a Saturday afternoon, at like 1400, there was only one bartender working both inside and the patio in the back. I felt so bad for her, considering there were about 15 people spread out from outside, in. Plus she was making the food, too.
I got it, that the less people working, the more money the owner makes, but this is an awesome place, it doesn't need to cut down on service to have angry customers.
I will go back, hopefully that poor bartender won't be working by herself.
I could not believe that there is such a HUGE difference in my feelings about Prost! and Feierabend. They are have the same owners, and the same beer selections (mostly). But when I walk into Feierabend it's all "Hey how's it going how can I help you?" and when I go to Prost! (which I was excited to have in my neighborhood) I can't get a seat at the bar and I stand and stand and wait while the bartender ignores me. Then he'll finally come over and say "Can I help you?" and I'm all nice and sweet and say "yeah, I want a Dunkelweis" and he's all "OK".... and then he doesn't get my beer.
He doesn't get someone else a beer, or go fill up a food order. He chats with some patron, who is sitting in front of the tap for my beer, and doesn't get mine...
So I stand some more.
And I wait.
And I stand.
And some other guy is kindof talking to seated customers, but I don't know if he's serving them ever, but he does sometimes bring them beer. He never talks to me though (wth guy? I'm so nice, and I say funny stuff!). And then he acts all awkward because I'm standing by where he needs to walk to get behind the bar but there is nowhere else to stand while I wait for the bartender to not get my beer!
This has happened all three times I try to go here (weekday nights! Stay away!), and it makes me sad. There is also not really food her. There are some sausages and they make sandwiches with them. I wouldn't care about the food thing if I wasn't treated like poo.
Upside: We went on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 pm for some beer and lunch/snacks. The beer they had was small but they had a good selection. They had some awesome Weisse (but then again why go to a German bar if you don't want German beer?). With the good german menu and good german beers, we were excited to sit outside in their back area in the beautiful sunlight and enjoy some beer with good friends (and luckily there was seating (around 5-6 bigger tables outside only) and by 2:30 it was packed outside.
Downside: only one person working in the middle of a Saturday :( It took 40 to 50 minutes for our food to come out (which the bartender was making herself) (The fod was delicious though! I got a brat and some of the sampler plates and it was good I must say) but it took very long. I felt horrible for the one girl who was working the entire bar and doing all the food as well. In that stance, it was not the best to wait so long for a brat and when we tried to order more beer and water it took about 10 minutes of waiting inside for the bartender to finally get to us.
Ultimately....they need more hands on a Saturday afternoon on a beautiful sunny day in Seattle because EVERYONE was out that day.
Lastly, I would definitely go back here because her service (what she could offer) was genuine and we did our best not to be so needy and helped her out (by taking out our own beverages, etc.). The food and drinks were delicious, if only she had an extra 1 to 2 people there to help out it would have been 5 stars.
JA! Liebe das so viel! Â Amazing selection of German beers, all served in the correct glass as well. Â The bartenders are all super awesome and funny, willing to sit and chat if they're slow. Â They also have amazing seasonal soups and they change their cider tap out once a month! Â This place is great for groups and I've even seen a few folks bring in their well mannered dogs. Â The food is pretty expensive for what it is but they're surrounded by restaurants and have 2 grocery stores a block away that you can stumble to after you're done drinking. Â I wish they had a happy hour.
Review Source:This is a place that is great for having beers with the friends. The beer is 5 stars! This is a tiny place with a lot of charm. I dont think that there should be a TV in it and if there is how about some Bundesliga not Basketball? Not particularly authentic. I might add I am from Spain and was with two Germans and a guy from Poland so we know authentic German pubs play futbol as a matter of pride. Weak. That said I also cant stand a kitchen that shuts down early on a friday night when there are a lot of people here. It makes me wonder if the owner knows how much food revenue is lost because of staff deciding they dont want to work. Overall I do like it here but I think management needs to pay attention to things like making sure the kitchen is serving food. That is just lost money and customers because people will leave to find food. I might add the place was packed. Shame that.
Review Source:This by far is my favorite place to have a beer because the beer is beyond comparison. Â For my friends that like the dark, heavy ales and me, who won't drink beer that isn't golden, this is "FN" fantastic!
You know you're not crazy when you take friends and without solicitation always tell you the beer is awesome. Â The kraut, sausage and mustard selections and great taste are the bait to lure you into a world where you'll need AA to bail you out.
It's great, it's great, it's great. Â For those of you guys who have girlfriends that have the "I don't drink beer because of the taste," this place will make them take back the comment. Â How do I know? Â My girlfriend WAS one of those people.
Also, if you have friends from out of town, do the boot. Â Four guys can knock that out in under five minutes. Â I know that from experience.
We tried Prost! this afternoon for lunch. Â Great selection of beers, and plenty of food options (Salads / Sandwiches) - it's a bar people!
There was one girl running the place. Â We were right in at 1pm - and in less than 20 minutes, there were 15 people in the bar! Â They really could use another hand when it gets this busy! Â This is why I took away one star.
They appear to be one of a four location German Pub/Bar chain around Seattle. Â I look forward to trying the other locations.
It's ok.. Their menu isn't very big and most of the choices are sausage on a roll or sausage on a plate with sauerkraut.
The pretzel was the highlight of my husband's meal. Â But $4? Ouch
The negative is that they don't offer fries. Â Curry ketchup and fries are the best!
Big selection of German beers.
Slow service since it seemed there was only 2 people working one behind the bar and one serving tables.
All and all I won't be back. Â Long drive for so so food.
Go for the beer, not the food.
While the food is decent, the selection is small and doesn't rank that high on my list of good authentic German food. Although I have yet to find amazing German food in Seattle.
While there I got a pretzel and the curry wurst. The pretzel was served warm and was pretty good. The curry wurst was supposed to be Bockwurst covered in curry ketchup but instead I got Weisswurst. The sausage wasn't bad but the ketchup tasted like Hunts and didn't have much of a curry flavor.
Pretzels and large ass glasses of German brewskis, why the hell didn't I come here earlier? I have to say Prost is a good place to get a group of people together and go have a beer. The inside of this place alone makes me want to become a professional beer drinker, it almost feels like the interior is telling you to subconsciously drink more beer because somehow you'll become more German for doing so. So if you want to have a nice place to drink some good beer and feel slightly more German, go here!
Review Source:Tthis place is really quite difficult to describe. I think that maybe there are pubs like this in European countries, but not so many here in the states. It's a bit like walking into some private home's large basement with picnic tables set up. If you're hungry they will boil you up a sausage or microwave you a pretzel.
The beer and selection here is outstanding. I'm not familiar with most of the varieties, but the fun part is trying more and different beers.
A great lil german pub in West seattle. The atmosphere was a nice and warm, esp since its super chilly outside nowadays.
My friend had a pint of the octoberfest beer, which he liked very much, and I had a pretzel. GET THE PRETZEEEELLL!!! It came out very warm and soft, and was screaming EAT ME! the honey mustard and regular grainy mustard that accompanied it  make my mouth water just thinkin about it....
if you like beer and stouts, go there, they'll even serve you a liter of whateva.
Prost! Â I love thee. Â Let me count the ways!!
1. German beer for me (and you serve booze for my pals that are not into beer)
2. Â All your delicious beers are served in the proper glassware
3. Â You offer different sizes of beer (LOVE me some half-liters of Bitburger and it's always amusing to watch people enjoy the boot)
4. Oktoberfest and Maskrugstemmen festivities make for very interesting photos
5. You are located near my house
6. Can you say "stein club"??? Â (one punch card down, 3 to go!)
7. Brotzeitteller is my favorite!
The service is always A+++, the ambiance is perfect and the beer is always a'flowin. Â Thanks for being my absolute favorite German pub/neighborhood pub.
Some savvy friends from Seattle brought me here when I was visiting them from out of town. Â Oh my! Â I loved it and will be back next time I am in town. Â
This is a tiny little place, the kind that most tourists would miss out on. Â This is precisely the kind of place I am dying to find when I am visiting a city. Â I think everyone in here was a regular, and it seemed to be one of those little well kept secrets.
The menu is pretty simple, nothing too fancy here. Â But what I ordered was really good, just a platter with some bread, cheese, meat, fruit, and mustard. Â Some really great mustard, that is!
The beer is beyond fabulous. Â I drank a liter of Optimator (a dark malty beer, 7.5%). Â It was one of the best beers I have ever had but maybe a liter was too much. Â Next time I come to Seattle, I WILL be back for more beer. Â There is a lot of different beer on the menu, which must be tried. Â Not sure where the beer is from, the names seemed to suggest Germany. Â Doesn't matter, you cannot argue with good beer regardless of where it's from. Â In one of the best beer towns in the world, this place is a giant among men.
The service was friendly if maybe a little slow, but I really didn't mind that at all. Â We were sitting on their back porch, enjoying good company, perfect beer, and perfect weather. Â No need to rush that.
This was such a wonderful find! We were visiting friends in Seattle and the plan was to go to Salty's on Alki but little did we know they only took reservations for the brunch buffet on Sundays. We drove around looking for an alternative lunch spot and stumbled onto Prost.
The back patio was the perfect lunch spot on a sunny day. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was great.
The beer selection looked decent but I didn't try any.
I ordered the Brezel sandwich-- like a German salami and cheese sandwich on pretzel bread. It was amazing! One of the best sandwiches I've ever had and I've been thinking about that sandwich ever since.
I will definitely go back here whenever I'm in Seattle!
I'm rating the atmosphere more than the food or the beer -- I know next to nothing about German beer or beer in general for that matter.
That being said, there is a great crowd of regulars -- they are friendly and welcoming. The bartenders are also great. When the weather is nice, this group of regulars often cooks for the bar, so if you're lucky you might get a delicious "off the menu" meal -- like a pulled pork and cole slaw slider, for example.
As for "on the menu" stuff: I really like the pretzel sandwich and as a girl with roots in Bavaria, sometimes you just need a bratwurst and sauerkraut. They also make a mean hot toddy with Herbst whiskey. My only complaint is they never have the beer I like on tap.
Love Prost!!! We went there when they were just opened. They got decent selection of beers , my fave is franziskaner, so smooth and carries fruity flavor. I also like Lager. They have a full bar so you don't have to limit yourself to just beer. We always order a side or two of landjaeger with hot mustard.
They always have some games on so I gave me a vibe of sport bar, though this place is too small for one. It's always crowded, so sometimes you have to stand around until someone leaves. Staff is nice.
Its a cool concept to have a Teutonic brew pub in micro brew central. Â Nice change of pace. Â But their selection of German beers is somewhat tired - stuff thats been around a long time. Â Need to get some depth in the list. Â How about a Berliner Weiss!
Food - hard to get excited about sausage and more sausage. Â Again, nothing special - just go to a yuppie grocery store and you have this places beer and grub.
Finally ventured in with my room mate a few weeks ago and have been back a couple of other times.
Not much into German foods ... there wasn't all whole lot on the menu that was appealing, but what I did try was very good.
Now as for the beer ..... well that is a different matter ....
So many to choose from I didn't know where to start but fortunately I was in the mood for something along the lines of smooth and clean Hefevizen so I decided to try the Franziskaner (order a liter!!).
When the mug (or in the case small glass barrel with a handle .. lol) arrived and I took a whiff I was sold .... it was FABULOUS!!!
The menus description was spot on about the flavors including the hint of banana.
Anyways, I haven't tried any others yet and not sure if I want to ... love the Franz.
Anyways, if you want a cool, laid back place to have some great German beers this is the place.
Just bring plenty of $$ if you plan to drink since the beers are a little pricey but not too bad .... had a liter for $9.75 and it took me about 45 minutes to drink it so not a bad deal.
I have mixed feelings about this spot, so I'll start with the good. The beer selection is very German, and they have my favorite German beer: Franziskaner Weissbier. The atmosphere is great, and I love the glassware. I have tried to eat here a few times, and from what I understand, they have very typical German bar food. If you're into snacky sausages, this is your spot, but their menu lacks variety in my opinion.
It can get very crowded here, and usually they are understaffed. For a liter of bier on off hours, this place is great. It's especially great for people new to the West side.
My mom and I were cruising West Seattle for a new place to eat, so we called up her friend for the name of the German pub she liked: Prost!
When we arrived it was PACKED! I think it was due to a game on TV, ao we stood in back near the wall and waited. It was kind of sad, some people were all by themselves at these really big tables, and no one would even look at us for fear they might be obligated to let us sit with them. I guess you can't expect single guys at bars to actually be gentlemen.
We finally got a table (one of the lone men was leaving), and some beers on the way! I ordered the Warsteiner Dunkel and my mom a Honig Dropf mixed drink. Mmmmm tasty beer! For whatever reason the front and back doors were wide open even though it was cold outside and causing a frightful draft. Needless to say, I wanted something warm to eat to counter the chill, so I got the daily special - a pork stew. There were lots of meaty pork chunks, potatoes, some veggies in a yummy broth that added great flavor but didn't overpower the flavors of the other ingredients. My mom's bratwurst  was delicious as well, what little I got to try. :)
Overall I think this is a delightful little German pub. I like that it's smaller, just remember to not go on a game night if you want to sit down! The staff were all friendly, even if a little frazzled by the large numbers of people. Sure, they don't have a huge selection, but I think it's more about creating a little pocket of community that is reminiscent of what a small town German pub might be like.
Keep it simple. This place is all that.
You go for a German beer. They've got a selection of ten or so. If you're into German beers, and you don't want anything else beer-wise, well, this is your spot.
As for the food. You've gathered from other Yelpers that this isn't really a dinner spot. It's food to keep the beer in its place. That's all. Beer and brats. Their menu on line and in-haus sort of gives off pretensions that it's going to be something more. But just let it be what it is: sausage, bread, kraut, and great mustard.
Calling the place a 'restaurant' is a stretch. Don't bitch that it's not got any vegan, don't hope for a great salad for 'the other people', and don't think you can talk them into a grilled cheese or anything. The 'kitchen' is a 6x6 space with a toaster and a weenie boiler.
Go in thinking it's a beer and brats place, and you'll leave satisfied that you got that right.
I think it is stupid to say that it is not authentic to have a tv playing American sports, or that their wurst is not cooked just right... blah blah blah, you are in America! If you want Authentic go to Germany.
That being said, their beer selection is great. Not a huge selection but what they have is 'authentic' heh and very tasty :) I am not sure what it is about this place but something about sitting at the bar is really relaxing. It is cozy, smaller, not jam-packed on a Saturday night, and it is the only place I have ever been where they bartender was always on top of things. Plus two bathrooms, yeah!!
Alright Yelpers...I have been waiting 5 months to write this review. Â
Prost! was the first bar I frequented after moving to West Seattle in Feb...and its still my favorite. Â The beers are great and all served in their proper glassware. Â A 0.5L is around $5 and a 1L is usually about $9.50.
They even have 2L "Boots" available. Â They require a credit card in case you break it ($50) - and the house rule is you cannot set the boot down once your party has started drinking it.
The food is also good if you are looking for a quick bite. Â I recommend the pork loin or Tyler's Reuben...all less than $10
They have a couple of outdoor tables in the front (dog friendly) and 2 picnic-like tables in the back.
Be sure to join the Stein Club - your first punch card gets you a t-shirt. Â After 5, you get your own plaque on the wall. Â
Big shout out to the great Bartenders: Kristi, Dan, Tom, Kate, Tyler, etc!
YUM, Franziskaner Weissbier.
After dropping into the new Arcane Comics West Seattle location for Free Comic Book Day, a friend of ours not-so-subtly suggested that the three of us stop off at Prost! for a nice German brew.
What we found was really a beautiful woody bar/restaurant with a nice selection of German beers that I'd never seen or heard of.
The three of us (myself, girlfriend, and friend) ordered the Franziskaner Weissbier and it was totally awesome and banana-y. The service was friendly, too.
There wasn't a lot of seating, but after a little while some folks left and we snatched up their table.
I'm glad we went. Yummy German beer, and yummy-smelling German food that I've yet to try. But soon.
Small, dark, cozy pub with German food & beers with a crowd of soccer fans staring at the TV to cheer on the Sounders --Sweet! This West Seattle bar was packed - and rightly so - it's a great spot to eat and drink and take in a game.
Great medium-dark brews and a sampler plate of apples, meats, cheese and pickles. And the Braunschwager was tasty and rich - served with soft bread - and way more than anyone should ever consume in one sitting. Those Germans - they put the H in Heavy.
Prost is the Most.
Das is Goode!
I have been to their Lake Union location Feierabend and love taking friends there that want to do something a little different. Prost West is like it's baby brother in comparison but when you really look at it, this location has a lot of pro's that are overlooked. The smaller size leads to more socializing with new friends, hey this is how the set up was when I went to Germany and lets face it after a the large stein full of bier everyone's a lot more interesting. My only concern was that the food selection wasn't as good, but what they do have (mostly brawts) is really really good.
This is one of those places that any neighborhood would be lucky to have. A perfectly authentic old world European pub where the biers are strong and the friends are plenty.
I'm rather disappointed with Prost! West Seattle. Â The beer selection is fine, but the food selection is deplorable. Â There's more to German food than wurst and kraut.
and the deathcore metal music that was playing too loudly over the sound system was not making me want to linger for another half-litre of beer.
Sorry, but there's nothing here to Prost! to.
Being of Bavarian decent, and having lived in Munich for a while, I sometimes get a itch for my good old comfort food and beer.
Well Prost! is in the neighborhood, so I thought I would check it out.
I was very disapointed.
The Good:
Nice doors.
Friendly staff
The bad:
Beer: I had Pauliner Oktoberfest, and have drank it at the Pauliner tent in Oktoberfest. The brewer would have been ashamed. It tasted skunked and stale.
Food: The food is nothing more than some items they picked up from the Bavarian market in Pikes Plaza. In and of itself that is not a bad thing. However all they did was steam it to heat it up. The bread came from Safeway, I even saw em pulling it out of the bag. Then they charge 3 times what it cost them. Yuuuk!
Music: Again Yuck, the music was mostly Rap, given that most the clients were 35+ this was a bad choice.
Staff: Friendly, but REALLY SLOW.
So ultimately this ended up feeling like a bad X-fratboy bar. Is this where they go when they grow up?
Oh  braunschweiger, how I love thee.  Why doesn't American cuisine have a healthy respect for liver?  WHY, I ASK YOU?  Ahem, anyway, I had their amazing braunschweiger, served with apple slices and rye bread.  My partner-in-crime had their Brautwurst sandwich, which had two types of mustard and a very tender sausage to boot.
To say nothing of their amazing beer selection, complete with crazy glasses depending on what you order. Â Two thumbs way up for this place.
PROST!
IT'S FAMILY-FRIENDLY!
a bar that allows children!? Heck yes!
This just made nannying a LOT more fun!
IT'S MODERATELY GERMAN!
little-known fact: sandwiches just so happen to be ranked in my top three favorite foods! LESSER-KNOWN FACT: I FREAKING LOVE SAUERKRAUT! AND MUSTARD! AND PRETZELS!
Their beers are FANTASTIC! I had a ridiculously great time with my bosses and their children - drinking beers, eating sausages (and sauerkraut) and pretzels... with mustard!
PROST! YEAH!
!!!!!!!
With at least 5" of snow on the ground, you:
1) shovel the steps and the sidewalk
2) take the dogs to the off leash area to play
3) find a place within walking distance for a beer and maybe food.
For us that would be the new Prost! in West Seattle.
They normally open at 3pm on weekdays. Â Not today. Today they opened early. Â Smart. Very smart for a new business.
It was warm inside and very busy. Â There was one guy working and he is easily the best "server" I've seen in a very long time. Â Very cool under pressure.
We had two pretzels, a plate of sausage and two Franziskaners. All very tasty and satisfying.
When we left, he was in the weeds...with a smile on his face, a wave and a thank you.
Ja gut!
One does not go to Prost! for the food. Â You go for the beer, the beer and some more of the beer. Â If you happen to be hungry, they've got food. Â
If someone in your crew isn't feeling the beer selection, they've got a full bar as well.
Pro-tip: If you're feeling peckish, get something simple and it'll be tasty. Â Seattle doesn't do good, authentic German food.
Prost! is German inspired and has a menu full of fantastic German beer. Unfortunately, when I went there, the menu didn't quite match the actual selection. Granted, the place had only been open a few days, so I'll cut them some slack on that.
The so-called traditional German cuisine, however, was unforgivably poor.
I'm a big fan of German food, which I'd call the comfort food of Europe, and nothing beats a big, perfectly done Curry Wurst, served in a Berlin dive at three in the morning. Crispy and snappy on the outside, juicy and delicious on the inside, topped with curry ketchup and steak fries. I've traveled all over Germany and eaten everywhere from truck stops and in-the-boonies family restaurants to four star hotels. The food at Prost! is downright sad by comparison to anything, I've had in Germany.
Take aforementioned Curry Wurst, substitute the fries for two slices of store-bought, pre-sliced bread. Straight from the bag. And the sausage? Good quality, but soggy to the point, where I could not even finish eating it. It had never seen a pan, just hot water. In other words: Disgusting.
My friend ordered something else, but I'll spare you the details on that, except to say that we're in the same ball park.
Which reminds me: why is there a flat-screen tv over the bar, showing American football games? How is that traditionally German?
I'm giving them two stars for the decor (very cozy, apart from the tv), the service (not too fast, but nice and friendly) and the quality of what beer they did have. All in all: Not authentic, bad food, good beer and not completely without charm. But there are better places to go in West Seattle.
