All i can say if you are visiting from the country of Mexico you may think this is good Italian fare. Let me tell you, its is not! My meal of linguini and 'clams' was $26 and terrible. I could have had a better meal out of a can.
The service from the waiter was terrible, the food over priced and you feel like you are in a flash back from 1970. Save your money and go to Olive Garden, you will have a better experience!
I've been going here several times a year since they opened many moons ago. Â The food is always outstanding as are the waiters. Each course is brought out in a timely fashion and there's never a feeling of being rushed.
I always get the same thing: four cheese ravioli for lunch or dinner and strawberries with sauvignon sauce for dessert. Â Neither are on the menu and, I believe, you can only get the strawberries with sauvignon sauce when the owner is there.
On a recent visit my client ordered garlic shrimp over a bed of linguini. Â Also, not on the menu. Â I swear I caught my client licking the plate.
So if you don't see what you want on the menu just ask if they can make it.
Food, service, wine list and cocktails all top notch. Mr. Benito and his staff will treat you like a king and the kitchen will make you anything within reason. Try the cheese ravioli which is not on the menu, to die for. We have been going to Benito's for over 15 years and it is fantastic for business dinners as well as family nights. Well worth finding.
Review Source:My hubby and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary @ Ristorante Da Benito and really glad we did! We were seated promptly and greeted by a friendly waiter. The host could have been nicer but didn't really bother us. The food that we ordered were all amazing and the chef came out to say hello. We thanked him for making such great dishes and he seemed to like it and very passionate about his craft.
I can't believe it took us 3 years to try this place! Definitely going back to try their other dishes.
I went last night with 5 colleagues for a business dinner. This was a first for most of us, but apparently one of the guys has been there multiple times and Benny knew him by name.
We started off with some appetizers. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Tartar. It was a huge portion of spicy tuna tartar mixed with chunks of creamy avocado sitting on a bed of seaweed salad. It was excellent although the portion was so large and they don't serve it with any kind of a toasted chip like in other places so after a while I was tired of eating the mushy tuna. I would have preferred it to be cubed tartar mixed with cubes of avocado so it would have a better mouth feel. My colleagues had the Clams Casino and they looked good, albeit a bit small on the large plate they were served on. They all liked the taste of them.
For my entree, I took the suggestion of a very good friend who said that she ONLY gets the Veal Osso Bucco when she dines here. I tried it and I have to say that if I could have eaten the bone, I would have. It was excellent. It is served on a plate of delicious sauce and on top of a pan-fried risotto cake, which gives a great texture contrast to the soft meat. You could literally put your knife down and use your fork to break up the meat. It was so delicious that I ate every bite! I can honestly say that I was so engrossed in my own food that I am having trouble recalling what the others had for dinner. The person sitting next to me had the Veal Osso Bucco too and he ate it all as well. I believe the others had the Veal NY Strip special of the evening (2 had wanted it, but apparently they only had 2 left when we were there even though it was only 7pm when we ordered our food), Veal Scallopini (which looked yummy), Clams in White Wine Sauce and I think the Beef NY Strip (or something like that). Seriously, I was stuffing my face with Osso Bucco so I didn't really care too much what other people were eating.
For dessert I ordered the Creme Brulee Trio and it was deliciously sweet and creamy and lovely. All 3 flavors were wonderful. I would suggest starting with the coffee flavored creme brulee and working your way from right to left as opposed to left to right to get the best taste for your buck.
Wine list is also superb and the wait staff is friendly & attentive, but not intrusive. What more can you ask for?
I like this restaurant, but doesn't have an impact on me. The service is perfect, ask for the owners son. He's a good waiter.
I had a salmon dish as a special, with chickpeas that were mashed underneath. The salmon was cooked perfectly. It was wild too. A rare find.
What would need improvement would just don't be shy of adding more flavor. I noticed the clientele was older, mainly 50+ and--well--not to assume sometimes chefs may play it safe on the palate when it comes to spice use. I understand.
I would recommend it but would not drive down to Union for the experience.
You cannot find a better Italian restaurant in New Jersey. Superb service and food.  The owner Benito is always present for a friendly greeting, suggestions for food and specials, and is often checking with you about  the food and to have a small chat without being obtrusive. The waiters can't do enough to make your stay worthwhile. The flavors of the food are superb. The presentation is exquisite. The wine list is extraordinary. The ambience is so  comfortable and warm feeling. You could not do better anywhere. I just love this place and cannot understand why there are not more reviews. By the way there are a lot of regulars at this restaurant (including me) and you often see local politicians here and sometimes the famous and near famous. The hallmark of an excellent  establishment. Try it. You will love it as I do.
Review Source:I went to Benito last night for my Fraternity's annual formal. The place is relatively small so we took up most of it, but for that reason I cannot really comment on normal service standards. The restaurant had this pretty modern and classy vibe which is something that I wouldn't typically associate with our fraternity. It brought a touch of class to our rowdy bunch.
We had a prefix 4 course menu that absolutely blew me away. Our alumni chair had gone previously to sample the food, and came back with very positive reviews. I was skeptical at first because they had only been cooking for one person, and when catering for about 80 people, I absolutely expect the level of cuisine to suffer; however, Benito's did not fail to deliver.
The first appetizer was prosciutto with some slices of cantaloupe. The salty and sweet mix turned on my tastebuds for what was to come.
The next course was so good that you'll have to forgive my use of caps. THEIR HOMEMADE RAVIOLI BLEW MY MIND. I felt like I was eating in the five star kitchens of Italy with the ravioli that I was served. It was so good that it nearly caused a riot as our brothers were trying to steal more from other people's plates. But most efforts were fruitless as most people inhaled the pasta puffs before you could even blink.
The main entree that I sampled was a fillet mignon on a bed of potatoes. There were a few people who found it too rare, but because I like my meats as rare as a Mewtwo (that's a pokemon reference HAH), I thought the dish was fine. The only complaint I really heard was that there wasn't enough of it! My date had the salmon which I was able to try as well. It looked as good as it tasted, which is pretty damn good.
For the dessert, I was able to have the tiramisu and the cheescake. Both were pretty good, and if I had them alone, I probably would have thought they were fantastic. But because I was so impressed by the other parts of the meal, they felt pretty average.
Overall, the night was a wonderful success. The food was excellent and did not suffer any bit from the catering syndrome, and it only makes me want to go back for more.
P.S. I was completely sober for the food portion and hammered on the open bar after the dessert. While the rest of my night was a blur, the food clearly stands out, which speaks even more volumes!
