When we moved from Philadelphia, we knew one of the things we would miss most would be Slice pizza. I think we have found a pretty suitable alternative in the pizza of Rocco's, particularly the margherita. It is so good. The basil is so fresh and the sauce is wonderful. We have tried a few of the other pizzas as well, but this is our fave. Salads are good, too!

Again mixed review. Good drink prices. Wine 3-4$. Beers 3$ ish as well all the time! Ate  pizza- didnot like thick chewy and ' buttery '? Crust. Had a bad order of muscles. Very fishy and off. Sent back quite apologetic and I still had to pay for it. Not cool. It was un edible. Fried dessert not so tastey.

I'm always on the lookout for awesome pizza and this place is pretty good.  I prefer it to be a thinner crust with a crispy bottom to it and this place hit both of my standards.  For a while I didn't get anything but pizza from here but I tried some sandwiches just to get a good idea of what it was all about and let me just say, stick to the pizza.  Some asshole left a raving review of the porketta so I tried that and it sucked ass.  It was dry and the pork had a smell reminescent of some of the girls I knew in HS, fishy.  The crowd here is mostly made up of douche bags and old people who don't realize that they are old so I recommend getting your food to go.  The service was friendly but slow.

I spent hundreds of dollars in Rocco's and have a family and neighborhood family history at Pala's. I went in one night with $300 dress shoes, Italian dress pants and a black polo shirt. The bartender who drinks behind the bar and runs home and back to serve alcohol told me I was wearing a "wifebeater" and that I was no longer welcome in the establishment.

Major bad move. My family had gone to that building for food for over 40 years. Bartender told me it was a "black thing" and that he had to be fair to everyone (?)

Not my kind of place anymore. Blue Parrot has always remembered me and I'll continue to patronize them as I have.

The only thing I don't like about Rocco's is that it is not within walking distance of my house. When I learned that drinks are $3 all the time I looked at the two gal pals I was dining with and broke into a delighted smile.

    "We're home!" I said.

The porketta sandwich with broccoli raab is super, with tender juicy pork. The broccoli raab is garlicky, with some crunch to it. And come hungry because this is one big sandwich.  Friendly help and an open-air eating area are bonuses, altho the patio tends to attract smokers. Blech to that.

I want to like this place, I really do but it is completely inconsistent.  We've been in many times, and it seems to be getting worse each time.  I love the $3 for any drink aspect, and our server has always been great.  What comes out of the kitchen is another story.  The porkette has gone from completely juicy and full of flavor to horribly dry and bland.  I ordered the veggie Stromboli and the broccoli actually had a rotten, fowl smell to it when I cut into it.  Last visit, the sandwiches were ordered with a few special requests such as no cheese and no mayo.  The sandwiches came out with cheese and mayo.  Our server apologized and told us she put it in correctly, but they can't read in the kitchen.  I sure hope they can improve and get back on track where they were earlier on, but in the meantime we will take a break from this place.

I went last night for dinner with friends, but I've had the pizza, which is pretty good, in my limited pizza expertise. We had appetizers: fries with old bay and cheese, onion rings and nachos. Not bad but you can that anywhere in most bars in the area. For my main dish, I ordered the eggplant parmesan, it comes with pasta and a house salad, portions were very generous and delicious. The waistaff was polite and it's a good atmosphere to catch a game and relax, it can be a little cramped at tables, but not that big of a deal. Will definitely be returning.

I went to Rocco's with my family and here is my complete experience:

Service: When I walked in I was greated promptly and told a table was being set for my party of 5. Our waitress was knowledgeable and polite.

Food: As a table we shared the wings (asked for well done and they were just done. Makes me worry if I had not asked for well done. Sauce was good), Mussels in white sauce (very small mussels, and the white sauce was too salty), Fried Calamari (Very good, lots of tenticles, and crispy. The marinara was not at all impressive. This is an Italian place right?). For dinner we tried their calling card based on the newspaper review - PIZZA. Toppings were super fresh, but the crust was much too thick (think dominos pizza). If they had a nice thin crunchy crust I would have given the pizza a good review. Drinks were good. Based on price I really cannot complain too much ($100 for 5 people).

Atmosphere: Top notch, and quaint. Very nice decor, and plenty of nice big hi-def TV's. This is a great "beer and snack while you watch the game" place.

If they clean up the food, this place could be great.

Like many other Delawareans, I have passed this location for years and always wanted to try the "worlds worst pizza." Went to rocco's tonight with five of my cousins..the place was packed. All ages, all types of people. I sat next to a multi-million dollar real estate developer in DE while 20 year olds sat in eagle jerseys at the bar.
Food was good. I had pizza as did many of my dinner companions. Saw the nachos come out--whoa. Might give another trolley square establishment a run for its money. Chopped antipastos, bruschetta, pizza all looked worth ordering. All I could think about was "my husband is going to love this place." Texted him as soon as I took my first bite. Awesome to find a good pizza place in wilmington. Best part? Our bill was under $20 per person. Yes, we all drank, yes we all had our own entrees.

The resident meat-eater brought home a slice of 10" pie leftover from his lunch with coworkers, which I happily consumed. The simple fact that his huge-eater stomach couldn't finish it means the food here is BIG but as I also found out, GOOD!

The crust is that perfect happy medium between thin/crispy and thick/chewy. So perfect that I didn't realize I had been craving it until I had my first crispy, chewy bite. It is also sturdy enough to hold all the heavy-handed toppings. We had the Rocco Special, which is pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and black olives. The sausage slices were a half an inch thick, and the onions and peppers were in chunks, giving them a nice crunch even though completely cooked. Can't comment on the cheese because the meat-eater is non-dairy, but with this much texture and flavor on a slice, I didn't miss the queso at all.

Seriously a good pie, and I will be back soon to give this place a further look.

Finally!  I have been driving by the defunct Pala's Pizza on the corner of 7th and Union for years, being forced to look at the ridiculous (and maybe the reason of their demise) "World's Worst Pizza" sign. I have constantly wondered to myself when a new business would open? There were rumblings that a Two Fat Guys would move in, and that never happened. Somehow though, in what feels like almost overnight, a new business popped up and took over the space all under my radar. An old friend suggested we catch up for drinks, and recommended Rocco's. I was at a loss, and had to ask where the hell it was. A new spot in Wilmington? I was in.

After taking a quick look on their Facebook page and website (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.roccoitaliangrill.com%2F&s=520972a21a30faa05890b3c7aca5d7fa481b5080572d4b2c69aed1e130859a4c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.roccoitaliang…</a>), it appears that there was a Grand Opening on June 24th, so the place is VERY new. My wife and I strolled in on a Wed. night around 8:15 pm to meet Rock and his wife for a few beers, and the place was packed. We were immediately greeted by the owner. He welcomed us, asked if we had been in before, and offered us a table. We declined waiting for a table, and thankfully, a few people were just getting up from their bar seats, so we were able to grab a corner spot at the bar. I have to say the interior looks great. I had never been inside in it's previous incarnation, but its obvious that a lot of updating had been done. There are a number of high top tables, a big bar, and it looked like some booths in the back. Lots of fresh modern tiling, and plenty of fresh paint. There were a number of flat screen TVs playing the Phils Red Sox game, and the place instantly had a great home town sports bar feel. The crowd was definitely interested in the game. I am a connoisseur of good dive bars (the more 1970's brown paneling, the better), but this place certainly is not. It has a fresh feel to it. I immediately liked the place, and I hadn't even had a drink.

Best part was to come. After Rock arrived with wife in tow, he informed me that all drinks were $3. Now, I am not sure this is entirely true, but the pint of Guinness, and the glass of house white that we ordered definitely were, and his Blue Moon was as well. Our bartender was friendly, but not entirely adept at pouring Guinness. Way too much head. Typically, I'd speak up, but this place is new, and I just let it slide. The owner actually stopped over after we had been sitting at the bar talking for about an hour, and asked if we were doing alright, and if he could get us anything. I liked his mindfulness, and I didn't find it intrusive at all.

I did take a look at the menu, and saw a number of fellow patrons working on personal sized pizza, and wings. The menu looks pretty typical. Subs, burgers, cheese steaks, etc. Nothing really jumped out at me as being especially interesting. Its all the same stuff you'd find in most places like Season's, Pat's, Grotto, etc, but looks to be a little more authentically Philly. I didn't order any food that night as I had earlier crushed about 5 killer boneless chicken thighs I had grilled, and my weight in salad. I will definitely be trying the food soon. I can never resist a porkette with prov and rabe for very long.

As I was looking this business up on Yelp, I did notice the previous review. The guy slammed this place, and wrote the review 8 days before the Grand Opening after only one visit. (Check the guy's profile.  "His last meal" is classic)  Usually, if a lay into a place on Yelp though its been after more than a few visits (see reviews for La Tolteca and Harvest Grill).   That way I know they consistently have issues. Trust me, I want independent small businesses to thrive in Wilmington. There are too many shitty chain restaurants clogging up this town as is. Also, you have to give a new business a bit of a break when they first open.  There are a lot of kinks to work out.  I will definitely be back to Rocco's though, and try to give an  update  with some food reviews. More to come...

Decided to give Rocco's a re-go after their "Grand Opening."

Found out Blue Moons are $2, which is a pretty amazing deal, and tried their Stromboli this time.   I actually received my food this time, which was a definite plus, and it was actually pretty good.  The crust is what sets the stromboli off though, as the toppings are your typical pizza shop toppings (steak-umms, the jarred mushrooms, etc).  It comes out perfect -- crunchy on the outside and still soft on the outside.

A friend of mine got the chicken cutlet sandwich, which I regret not getting.   Comes on a great sesame roll, and the cutlet is pretty damn good itself.

Needless to say, we'll be back to give it a third go round.
