I was kind of surprised by this place. Â We came in for lunch and it was packed, which is a good sign since a lot of the restaurants in the area have closed down or gotten turned into something new in the last few years.
We had a couple of the tall tables pushed together for our group. Â It was freezing cold but otherwise, no complaints there. Â Good service, quick with refills, and timing on everything was fine. Â The girl who brought out some of our food (who was not our server) was a tiny bit grumpy but it wasn't an issue.
I was also sort of surprised with my food. Â I don't remember the menu being that great when we used to come in here a few years ago. Â Middle of the road, almost leaning toward mediocre sometimes. Â Now, I may be a salt-craving monster this week but I really really liked the shrimp and lobster tacos. Â Decent flavor, an appropriate amount of food on the plate. Â Tasty stuff. Â Other folks had chicken fried chicken, burgers, fish and chips and I think we all really liked our stuff. Â It was definitely better than what I have eaten here in the past.
And since we were on lunch from work, we did not get to try any of the beers. Â Maybe something to try some time but I think we will be more likely to come back here again.
Last night it was a choice based on logistics: Â it was the halfway point for us and some friends, and my husband had a gift card. Â We had dinner earlier in the evening, so this review is mostly based on drinks.
There's a nice cocktail list, but I felt like a tool drinking a cocktail in what is obviously a beer bar. Â But the beer list is shorter than the wine list, and that's just wrong. Â I'm not a beer snob, but I was hoping that since it's fall, some kind of cider or pumpkin beer would be available. Â Instead, we were met with the 5-6 standard beers "brewed" by Rock Bottom, and a list of 3-4 other seasonal options, which were all darker beers. Â There is no other beer available except for Rock Bottom's. Â Don't go in here wanting a Miller Lite, Corona, or Heineken, etc.
So I tried the white ale. Â It was good. Â I'm not a beer aficianado, so I have to stick with simple adjectives like "good." Â It was a quality beer and I liked it. Â But I wouldn't go back just for this.
I browsed the menu, and the waiter told us they recently re-did the menu. Â Most of the entrees at $15+, and I don't think I could justify spending that at Rock Bottom. Â Instead of Rock Bottom, I'd visit World of Beer if I wanted a beer experience, or Buffalo Wild Wings if I just wanted a beer and some good food.
The complimentary root beer barrels when you leave are nice though.
YIKES! Ok, so this place USED to be awesome but I guess the head chef is no longer there. The place was on a downward spiral anyway because the menu has changed so much. It has ultimately hit rock bottom and I will never set foot there. The Southwestern Chx and Shrimp pasta that I used to love changed its sauce and is now oily and disgusting. The steaks have gone down in quality. Flavor is still there but the quality is gross. The remaining good thing on the menu is the MacNChx but they tend to screw that up every now and then. Bye Bye, RB. It was a good run while it lasted.
Review Source:You know, Rock Bottom has really gone downhill even over the past 2 years. Â I remember when the hubby & I started going to this place. Â The food could be described as upscale comfort food, and the beer selection was great. Â We joined their rewards club and got to meet the brew master a few times at events. Â We stopped going to the restaurant when we moved out of the area, but we met up with some friends at the Warrenville location for some dinner and good beer.
Wow, what a difference a year (or two) makes. Â The food is glorified bar food & it's not even done well. Â I got fish tacos that were uber dried out that were paired with the standard rice and beans which turned out to essentially be a heaping salt lick on my plate. Â The wine list is boring (Robert Mondavi, anyone?), and the beer has gone from having cool and descriptive names to standard IPA, Brown Ale, Red Ale, etc. Â The beer is mediocre at best, sort of giving craft beers a bad name.
I will have to say that our server was hilarious. Â She was extremely engaging and even went out of her way to give the husbands a hard time (at our request). Â It was great to be waited on by someone who actually likes her job (or at least is good at pretending that she does, if that's the case).
It's pretty safe to say that I'm not going to be making the 2 hour trek to Warrenville (or Rock Bottom Brewery for that matter) in order to eat a boring, unimaginative meal that I could get (cheaper) at any other chain restaurant. Â If I ever do find myself in the area again, I'll be going to one of the many other restaurants over this place.
I'm torn on this review. Â If you don't know, this place is a chain brewery restaurant. Â Think Chili's with their own special beers. Â I've been here several times, but I'll refer to my most recent trip this past weekend. Â I went here after a movie at Cantera with a friend for lunch and some drinks. Â The service was phenomenal, our waitress couldn't have been nicer or more attentive (without being annoying), Â and the food here is always very good. Â I should preface that by saying the only thing I have ever had here are the various burgers, but they are great burgers. Â My only issue is that I don't like their beers very much. Â They aren't bad, they're still light years better than Bud or Miller, but they just aren't as good as some of the local micro brews (see 2 brothers). Â I'll definitely keep coming back, but it will be more for the food and service and not so much for the beer.
Review Source:I've been a huge fan of this restaurant for over a decade now. (Sheesh, the fact that I'm to the point where I'm saying "over a decade" in Yelp reviews makes me feel old as heck- But, I digress.) First things first, dear reader, in case you're the kind of person who only reads the first paragraph: SIGN UP FOR THE MUG CLUB! All you need to do is ask your server about it, and you're in. Sadly, it's not a very exclusive club.
Anyway, being in the mug club gets you a larger glass of beer served in a proper mug instead of the ultra-pedestrian pint glass that the non-card carrying proles are forced to drink out of. I should also mention, being a member of the mug club allows you to look down upon non-members who can be easily identified by the pint classes in front of them. How embarrassing.
Being a mug club member, however, can be a double-edged sword. Sure, it's great getting extra beer, and you even get $5 coupons once in a while if you go home and register your card online. BUT, it's not so great when you meet someone cool there and try to impress them talking about how well traveled you are and how you "almost never come to lame suburban faux-brewery restaurants like this" moments before your server comes back with your congratulatory free Rock Bottom branded pint glass for coming to Rock Bottom so many times. (That's a real thing that happened, by the way.)
Oh, yeah, so, Rock Bottom. The food is great. The best thing on the menu is the chicken fried chicken, but you really can't go wrong with just about anything. Their steaks and seafood are also pretty good, but I feel like if you've mentally rationalized a $20 entree, dare I say, you should be going somewhere a little nicer than Rock Bottom. Sacrilege, I know.
The beers they've got have never disappointed me, and unless you have really specific tastes you can just save some scratch by ordering whatever the rotating $3 daily special is. Sometimes you luck out and it's something really good, other times you're just drinking a $3 beer, so how much can you really complain?
Parking is always ample, and the only times I've ever really had to wait very long is during prime dinner hours. Service is also universally exceedingly good, and I'm not sure I've been to a restaurant in the 'burbs that is more on the ball when it comes to drink refills.
Not sure about some of the negative reviews here as I feel like I've consistently had an opposite experience every time I come here. Oh, and one last tip, if the weather is nice, ask to sit outside. They've got a really small outdoor area that's fantastic at the right time of year.
Actually, I lied, this is the last tip- Substitute their sautéed vegetables for any side you can. They always seem to be cooked fresh instead of the pathetic clearly-previously-frozen vegetable slop you get from so many other restaurants when you try to opt for a healthier side item.
The one thing about Rock Bottom I like is that I can pretty much find one when I'm on the road and I know what I'm getting, but there are so many brewpubs out there these days and Rock Bottom doesn't really stand out from the crowd. Â
This place is conveniently located across from Regal Cantera Cinemas but on a Saturday night, it's hard to tell if you can get in and out in enough time to catch a show time at the theater. Â
The beer is good and I always try a sampler before deciding on a brew, the burgers are decent too, but for the most part Rock Bottom isn't my first choice when I'm in Warrenville.
I'm not a huge fan of corporate chains, but Rock Bottom is A-okay in my book. I've lived near Rock Bottom for centuries and I'd never stopped by until the other day.
A friend and I went for happy hour. Although the happy hour doesn't include drink specials, their appetizer specials are pretty decent. They have about ten appetizers on their happy hour menu which range from $5-$11. We ordered the ballpark pretzels which are served with queso ($5) and the quesidillas ($7). We were more than satisfied  from these two, huge appetizers. Quite delicious too! I wanted to try the Pulled Pork Sliders ($7) but we were just too full.
I really liked Rock Bottom's service. My friend and I couldn't make a decision between two of their lighter brews, so the waitress offered us samples of both. Score! When the samples came out, we were stunned. We expected to get a little sip of beer, but we actually got two decent sized samplers with extremely healthy pours. I was running on an empty stomach and one sampler size alone almost got me tipsy...just kidding (...but not really). Between the two samplers, I believe I was 1/2 a pint deep before the food arrived!
I appreciate a business willing to give their customers samples. I was impressed that I didn't have to ask to sample the beer before the waitress offered. This alone would get me as a repeat customer, but paired with the awesome happy hour apps-- I'm definitely a converted fan.
The food is ooookay but I don't actually remember what I had in the past so it couldn't have been that good! (I believe I had bread pudding as a dessert on my last visit and remember it being tasty.) I don't think Rock Bottom is terribly special but it's a decent place to hang out and enjoy a few drinks, maybe before or after a movie. However, I almost want to give them four stars for the amazing "Blitzen" beer they featured over the holiday season. It tasted like bubblegum in a weird, delicious way and was one of  the tastiest alcoholic beverages I have ever consumed!
Review Source:This place continually disappoints me. I get so excited to try new places that brew their own beers but every time I try one it reminds me of another one that Ive had that is way better. Kinda like saying your cute but not as hot as my last girlfriend. To add to that Ill be honest the food is also like the beer - just average. There are some items like the bruschetta that is pretty good if you like garlic and the burgers are decent but nothing special.
Service is also hit or miss. Its the type where the servers are off talking to each other and you need to wave them down for refills on your beers. Nothing is worse than waiting for your sub-par overpriced beer. I keep going back hoping that I will find something that I like to eat or a season beer that finally takes it over the top. I think im going to just fold my cards and go to some place like Lucky Monk that can at least get a good IPA right.
What has happened to this place?? Â Over the last year the quality of food and service has gone way down.
My husband and I used to love coming here but the last several times we have gone it hasn't been a good experience so we will definitely not be back.
The icing on the cake was when  we went one night after work and  "our table" in the bar corner was open.  We sat down and the waitress finally came over and told us we could not sit there because they were having Karaoke later  and didn't we see the signs.  Signs posted stated they will close the area around 9 ... we have sat at this table many times at 7pm and have never not been served on Karaoke night.  Also, every other table was filled in that section.  I just think she didn't want to handle another table.
We said something to the hostess when we went to find another table and she said we should have been allowed to sit there and then in the same breathe told us we would have to wait for another table to open up. Â Really? Â We left and went across the street to eat... you don't want my business - there are plenty of places that do!
Because I like some of the staff I am giving this a 4.. though it would be closer to a 3.7 due to the sometimes inconsistent qual of the food. Beer is good and keep in mind that these brewers normally come from or go to somewhere like 2bro / goose island from here so its not like its there first day on the job. I like the Reuben alot!! and I don't normally come here without getting the seared tuna ( only 1 time in 30 it wasn't great )..
This place is not going to blow your sox off but its def better then a Chilli's or somewhere similar..
Above all else, Rock Bottom has become the place we go to before movies at Regal Cantera, nothing more, nothing less.
The food has been hit or miss, and often includes dry bread, mincing on protein, or generic options. Â It's a little expensive for what I'd like.
However, the service has always been good, and they have a movie special: if you bring in your ticket stub, they'll give you $2 off your entree. Â Too bad I saw this sign as we were eating BEFORE our movie.
Came here on Valentine's Day at around 7pm. We had to wait 30 min while others who (assumed) made reservations walked right to their table.
Got the artichoke and crap dip (pretty good...very rich) for an app
Veggie pizza - pretty good and filling
We also got 2 drinks but they were clearly VERY watered down since we didn't taste much and we didn't feel anything (usually I do).
Our waitress was very nice.
Only had 4 beer choices other than the standard. Â It seemed odd to me as a brewry, so I stuck with IPA which was good.
I did feel like a vulture waiting for a table to open up at the bar. After a half hour, I gave up and was seated in the restaurant portion. Â It was very packed, but at least they had pagers for when you could be seated.
The food itself was kind of mediocre. Â I eat at the one in Orland Park all the time, and the difference is amazing. Â
The server we had was very good, and patient with us while we waited for the rest of our group to join us almost twenty minutes later. Â She was the best part of the whole experience.
I probably wouldn't go here again. Â Very disappointed from my other Rock Bottom experiences.
Theres some good stuff on the menu that I enjoy, (the 2am burger is good, if you take the soggy hash brown off of it, and the Jambalaya is good if you ask them to make it extra spicy) and the beer is way better than most other 'chains' would carry. (And they go with some obscure stuff from time to time. Last year I had a popcorn beer)
I like the concept, it (used to) force people to learn about beer besides generic, boring, tasteless, pisswater Mi**ler and Bu*****er products. I didn't realize I liked beer until going here when I was 21, when trying the sampler. BUT NOOOOO, they now serve other beers, all part of a buyout that occured about 7 months ago (news from our server when I was there).
BOTTOM LINE: It's the training wheels for people that dare to try a different beer, but with the explosion of micro-breweries, it doesn't serve nearly the same purpose it did 10 years ago. It's handy when I'm going to hit up a movie, but I'd rather hit up a actually brew-pub, like Two Brothers or Three Floyd's.
Oh Rock Bottom, if I had reviewed you in July you'd probably have gotten 4-5 stars, but the last few visits have been disappointing. Â Love the Lemon Petal Drop martini, we drive out from St Chas to have one and your awesome house salad, but lo and behold you can't make our martinis because you're out of St Germain. Â This is a bar, the Lemon Petal Drop is a specialty drink on your menu. Â We were bummed.
We were there just before New Year's and hubby ordered from the holiday menu. Â For the finish, he ordered the banana cream pie and we were informed that it was no longer on the menu, since that was a seasonal item. Â Yet, hubby had just ordered food from that menu, and there was no mention that some of the items on that menu were no longer available. Â Another bummer.
Yes, I still give you three stars, your donuts are to die for and your salads, nachos and enchiladas are fabulous. Â I just think the inconsistencies outweigh the star power you could receive.
I have only visited Rock Bottom a handful of times in the past, and most recently I visited the Warrenville location for a 'sister's dinner' out. Â We visited around 6pm on Sat. night, the location was busy but not overly so, and we only had to wait 15min. for a table which is not bad in my opinion.
First we grabbed a glass of wine fro the bar, and for a brewery this place has pretty solid wine offerings. Â There was a good variety of choices and price points which is important. Â When our buzzer went off, we were seated near the kitchen area and were promptly greeted by our waiter. Â He was very friendly and allowed my sister and I the time we needed to pick out what we wanted and was knowledgeable about the food available. Â My sister had a Chicken Ranch Salad which looked to be a good serving size, and she enjoyed it. Â I got the Jambalaya minus the shrimp... for nearly $16 I was disappointed about the size of the dish as well as the fact that the rice seemed like it came out of an Uncle Ben's microwave package. Â It was ok, but I won't be ordering it again. Â
When it came time for dessert my sister and I decided on the Banana Crème Pie which was good.  It was made with an actual pie crust instead of a graham cracker crust which I found odd but the bananas were fresh tasty.
Kudos to our waiter who dealt with my sister and me successfully though, we were a handful. Â We were full of jokes and fun and he just rolled with it for us. Â Food I would give a 3 but Service was definitely a 5 for this type of restaurant. Â It's good for a fun and relaxing night out.
I went here for my 21st birthday, and I don't think I regret it. Â I got a beer sampler and wasn't particularly impressed. You'd think that as a newly minted adult drinker they'd explain the difference between beers, but no - I just went in headfirst. I still can't remember what I had. Other than that the service was pretty good though.
The food was thick and greasy... I'm not sure how else to describe it. Â I had the salmon fish and chips, which was a good idea but so unbelievably rich on my stomach that I had to stop halfway through while STILL HUNGRY. That's bad news. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food though.
I would go here over Applebees/TGI Fridays/all those chains that are the same, but if I'm comparing it to other restaurants and breweries, I'll take a local one thanks.
I must disclose the fact that I was here only for the beers.
I had the amber ale and it was great. The server we had was really nice, and was willing to crack a few jokes with us. I'd love to go back here for the food.
What I didn't understand was why you had to take the stairs/elevators to use the bathroom. Maybe it's just me haha but I'd like to get to not get confused when looking for the ladies' room.
So if you took Bennigans and added a hybrid of Portillo's meets TGIFridays meets a low-rent RAM you'd get Rock Bottom.
The name really says it all.
The food price point - rock bottom
The location - rock bottom
The service - not bad, actually, but nothing to write home about.
I suppose if I drank I would drink beer. If I drank beer I would get drunk and the quality of my food would not matter. So it may meet those purposes. If you are sober and require food of quality I suggest you look elsewhere.
there is a sign on their door that says, "we're not serious about our food, we're crazy about our beer" or something like that.
Well, for sure, they aren't serious about their food. It's terrible. But we ate it because we were all HUNGRY.
My dad and I each ordered the Kobe beef cheeseburger. I"d like the manager to tell me where they source their Kobe beef from because for 8oz at $13.95 for a burger, that is a real steal - IF it's real Kobe beef. Â Kobe beef is supposed to be super fatty and this was dry - even cooked medium. Â I had to order mine medium well because I'm pregnant but it was nearly charred it was so dry.
My mom ordered the hickory burger. same deal. dry. yuck.
the highlight of my meal were my onion rings which were superb.
ROCK BOTTOM QUALITY FOOD
I am torn between rating this place with a two or three stars, but settled on a two star because it's the first placed that charged me $10 for pint of beer...and without anything special to support the price.
Dinner was o.k. (bar food is the best way to describe it), but service was just barely average. Â It took forever to get a check and I had to ask for a take-out box twice.
I'll go some place else if given a choice, but won't complain if someone else really likes the place for some reason.
I write a review for almost every beer place that I go to, so it is a little ironic that I have never written one for Rock Bottom - Warrenville (RB-W) until now. I have been to this location over 10 times in the past few years.
Over the years several brewers have come and gone. Although this is a chain, the head brewer still has a large influence on the beers. My favorite to date has been Griffin Ford. Sadly he has moved on.
The standard beers at RB-W are pretty good. I enjoy a Lumpy Dog occasionally. The recipes for the Terminal stout and the Warrenville wheat change all the time. So while the names stay the same, you never know what you are going to get. I have had some really good ones over the years and some not so good ones. I stay away from the Mud in Your Eye Light. That is what they give to people that ask for a Miller. Am I the only one that thinks it has a hint of popcorn flavor?
The reason that I can keep coming back is the seasonal beers. As with other Rock Bottoms there is always something new. Lately they have not been as exciting or experimental as they were in the past, but I still always find something I like. I am particularly happy when they brew a barleywine.
As is usual for chains, the beer is served very cold, but at least the glass is not chilled. I am always forced to wait for my beer to warm up before I can truly enjoy it.
The atmosphere at RB-W is pretty good for a chain brewpub. There is lots of wood and wide open spaces. It can be a little cold in this place, even in the summer. On several occasions I have asked them to turn off the fans that are blowing down on the place. There are the requisite TV's around the main bar, but the rest of the place does not have them. This is a good thing in my opinion. I have spent time at the main bar, the tables by the bar, the booths and the loft bar. I like the loft a lot, but I wish it were open more often. I guess the servers don't want to deal with the stairs if they don't have to.
Service is hit or miss at this location. But I think that is because I have the experience of many visits over several years. As the people change, so does the service. I have had servers that were fantastic and some that were plain rude. I have not met many servers that know anything about the beer. I generally take a look at the big chalkboard menu that is very detailed in order to make my choices. I wish they would put detailed menus on the tables. I am also very tired of having the servers warn me that the high alcohol beers come in a snifter. I suppose this is more the fault of the clientele than the servers. Yes, my Mug Club card means that I can get a bigger glass of some beers, but it also means that I have been to Rock Bottom before.
The food at Rock Bottom is fair, but nothing to rave about. It is a little on the expensive side too. I have a few items that I go back to over and over. The salmon fish and chips is a nice twist on a pub standard. The titan toothpicks are fun for sharing some deep fried deliciousness with your date. I also like to enjoy Rock Bottom's standard giant piece of carrot cake with a mug of stout occasionally.
Overall, I like RB-W enough to keep coming back. The beer variety is very good and it is fairly close to my house (although I wish it were closer).
[Update] 2010-12-05:
I am sad to say that I have become increasingly disappointed with RB-W this year. The quality of the beer has been going downhill. They seem to be skimping on the ingredients. The big flavors just are not there anymore. For example, I had what they called a Belgian dubbel the other day and it tasted very watery with no hint of the Belgian yeast flavor that I expected. They dropped my fallback choice, Lumpy Dog, from the standard lineup. More often than not, I have been disappointed with the beer this year. It makes it hard for me to decide to go here when I know there are better places in the area.
On the food side, they dropped the salmon fish and chips from the menu and the carrot cake has become a dense block of mush rather than a piece of cake.
Due to the beer and food problems I am lowering my review scores.
I met my husband here for lunch the other day, and we had a great time!! Â The service was good, the food was great, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the overall experience!
First of all, if you REALLY like beer, but you're stopping in from work for lunch, this place will be like TORTURE for you. Â This is why my husband got a growler to take home! :)
My husband and I ordered the nachos and added beef to them. Â We order nachos pretty much anywhere we go, let's just be honest. Â My husband has started a rating system with these. Â After a few bites, he tells me that these nachos blow the others out of the water, and they are by far his favorite nachos by a long shot. Â Whoa. Â Let's just take a minute to soak that in!
But really, the nachos are awesome! Â (see picture) Â There was a TON of delicious ingredients, and there wasn't a naked chip in the bunch--I hate that! Â The presentation was awesome, and they came out quickly! Â Score!
In addition to the nachos. we also ordered the 2am burger and the donuts for dessert. Â The burger and fries were delicious, and the donuts were very good as well. Â Not to the epic deliciousness of the nachos, but they were good :)
I have also had their soft pretzels and mac n cheese, and both of these are good as well!! Â
I highly recommend you hurry and get some delicious food here...before I eat it all!!!!
In fairness to Rock Bottom, I was there this week for the first time and had a salad at lunch. Â Pretty hard to evaluate the food but my Blue Cheese Wedge Salad was very tasty with nice sized chunks of bacon in it. Â Just the perfect size for lunch.
My dinner partner had the Fish Tacos that also came with a side of Spanish Rice and Black Beans. Â He enjoyed them but was unable to finish due to the very generous lunch portion.
We also tried the soft pretzel and nacho cheese dip for an appetizer which I would also recommend.
Bottom line... attractive environment, fast friendly service and the food seemed to be just fine. Â I need to go back again and try them for dinner and provide an update.
I wish I didn't have to give any stars!
It's been two month since I've written a review but this place was so awful that I was compelled to warn the yelp* community.
When we first arrived at the restaurant, it didn't seem to be very busy but it was 8 o'clock on a Sunday night. There wasn't a host to greet us. It took them a while to realize that new customers had walked in. When the host did realize we were there, she sat us promptly, said so and so was going to be serving us and walked away.
We looked over the menu and was surprised at the variety of food but nothing really screamed "Eat Me!". When our server did arrive, she introduced herself pretty quickly and asked for drink orders. Never bothered to ask if we've been there before or if we were interested in their specials. Nothing short of rushing it along.
I had high hopes for this place. I was surprised that they had house made root beer. (I'm a root beer fanatic btw) And I was so let down.
I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Mac n' Cheese which sounded promising but was mediocre at best. My date order a steak, simple enough but oh so much could go wrong when asking for it to be medium rare. When they brought out his plate I swear it was still bleeding. Being the gentlemen he is, he didn't send it back. If it was my order, I would have asked for a different entree.
I might give this place another try but I'd probably be apprehensive.
We stopped here as a last minute decision. I'm glad we did because we had a pleasant experience. We sat outside on the patio, and our server was attentive and friendly. She recommended beer that we might like, and brought our drinks and food quickly.
I had a Mongolian Shrimp dish that was outstanding! Not spicy hot at all (which I like).
I read reviews from others, and am sorry to hear of their bad experiences, but I would recommend trying this place.
I Â vacillated between two and three stars on this one. Ultimately, two stars is all she wrote, because when it comes down to it, I really wouldn't return to Rock Bottom. I Â don't have anything particularly horrible to say, but conversely, I have nothing particularly positive to say either.
My friend and I caught a movie across the way at AMC, and yes...the convenience factor and our general attitude of impatience towards the easing of hunger pangs ultimately drew us in. Service was fine and friendly. Food was completely forgettable. I had an ahi tuna salad that really could have been any chain restaurant salad. Think Applebees. If they had ahi tuna. My friend had chicken fried chicken, which he ate about 1/4 of. I suppose his arteries should have been rejoicing that it wasn't delicious enough to warrant a plate-cleaning, but still, if you're paying for a meal, you'd like to enjoy it. Or at least have an experience that elicits a response somewhere above total indifference.
Neither of us are beer-drinkers, so I really can't speak to the quality of the brews, but overall, this was a totally blah experience. Not horrible, but for me, not really worth repeating either. Not even for the sake of convenience.
Dad and I went here for a week-day lunch recently. It's one of those places that is indeed a microbrewery (the name of the brewmaster is on the door and everything), but because of the corporate canned decor you go, "Do they *really* do the brewing here?" The big vats look kind of fake somehow, like props.
Anyway, we weren't really imbibing that day, so this review is more about the food. Which was okay; I've been to Rock Bottom elsewhere before, and the food is fine, but it won't knock your socks off, and this experience was the same. My roasted herbed chicken was tasty, though the au jus was on the salty side; white cheddar mashed potatoes were disappointingly lumpy, salty and rather cold.
My dad got chicken noodle soup and a side Caesar salad, both of which he enjoyed.
We both drank the home-brewed root beer, but it tasted a bit flat and also like the flavor profile was missing something. (They did a smart thing in playing off the brewing of this product, and their brewing in general, by giving out root beer barrels at the door rather than mints -- clearly a marketing person was wearing their thinking cap!)
Our waitress was friendly and stayed on top of our needs. It did seem like the meal took a while to come out at the lunch hour, when people are trying to come and go pretty quickly.
Overall, a solid meh. Convenient if you're on Diehl or going to the Cantera Theater, but there are other options around here as well, unless you really need to belly up to that home brew.
Husband and I went here after a morning movie at Cantera. Being a Sunday we figured most places would be crowded with the after-church crowds so we decided to give Rock Bottom a try.
Service was fine. Staff was friendly and reasonably prompt but the food was below average and extremely overpriced considering the quality.
We ordered two appetizers, the Firecracker Shrimp and quesadilla rolls. Shrimp was interesting, I guess, the rolls were nothing special and the salsa was substandard.
We both followed our starters with burgers. At the most these burgers were average but definately not worth the $10 price tag. My husband got onion rings as his side- which he didn't bother to finish. My side was the macaroni and cheese which was just awful. A mish mash of overcooked noodles in a bland tasteless cheese(?) sauce, sprinkled with hard cheese(?) kernels. One bite and I was done. Neither of these sides were worth the 95 cent extra upgrade-from-fried-potatoes charge.
A disappointing experience. We will not be back and won't bother trying another location. It's never a good thing after you have left an eating establishment and you are kicking yourself, thinking of all the places you could have gone instead.
I don't know why we keep coming here.
The service isn't great, the food is only a step above TGI Fridays, and the beer isn't anything to brag about either.
We asked about the beers and the big tanks they have at all their locations and we're told that it's all just for the deco. The beer comes from a truck in kegs just like any other restaurant... not that that's a bad thing- if the beer were quality, I wouldn't mind, but, sadly, it's not.
If it weren't for the location, proximity to the movie theater, and that nothing else is really open that late at night in the burbs, I don't think this place could survive. No, I take that back. If Applebee's can do it, so can Rock Bottom, because if you really think about it, there's not much of a difference.
Well some people like american beer so they come here and eat burgers and drink the home brewed beer. Â Not my fancy but I can appreciate good stuff. Â
The beer was so so just fine nothing minding blowing. Â They have a decent selection and seem to specialize in the art of brewing they still brew a good beer.
The food is standard burgers, wings and chicken. Â Nothing really exotic on the menu and pricing is listed slightly higher but the portions are large. Â Not a bad place to stop in and grab dinner they are big and can be fun with a large group.
I certainly know where I am at when I walk in here (just in case I get discombobulated). Â Feels like a small epicenter of Suburban hell. Â People wanting to be seen, acting like idiots, and of course, being rude. Â NOT ALL BURBS are like this, but welcome to the collar of the "VILE" Â area-otherwise known as Naperville.
Rock bottom seems to pull this type of customer- at least this one does. Â Downtown is much better.
So- the food! Â We do come here for lunch occasionally- when I am in the area. Â The salmon salad is ok. Â The burgers pretty good. Â Honestly, I don't come here for the food, or the beer- I can't and won't drink while on the clock- not to mention I do want to get back to the city after work- and well the food, I have better places.
What I come here for is the Carrot Cake! Â It earns all the stars for this establishment. Â First of all- the piece is more than large enough to split with 2 other people. Â We often still have left overs. Â Aside from the gigantic portion- It is ALWAYS really tasty. Â Not too sweet, not too healthy tasting- oh, it also has Carmel syrup!
I used to go here religiously when it first opened. Â Since I don't drink and I have found better restaurants I don't go as often. Â Wonderful steamed veggie plate and salad, husband always enjoys the steak.
The service is prompt if they aren't crazy busy, which they usually are on the weekends, and during karoake. Â I personally can't deal with all the noise, but it is an ok place to go if you are into eating establishments that have a whole line of merchandise to peruse on the way in.
Yummy! Â Beer! Â You don't grow up in St. Louis, Missouri without learning to appreciate beer and there is plenty of it here.
Stopped in for a quick bite before a movie and was nervous when I saw a fire truck in the parking lot. Â You never know if something happened in the kitchen or if there was a medical emergency when you see the big red rig, and either one kind of eliminates my appetite and I feel sooo bad for the staff. Â Anyway, they were having a fundraiser and Villa Park firemen were tending bar and touting a fireman's brew. Â It was good.
The place was crowded for a Wednesday night, I'm not sure if it was tied to the fundraiser or not. Â We had to wait 20 minutes for a table and there was just 2 of us. Â When we were seated we decided to just get appetizers and told the waitress of our movie plans. Â Well, guess what? Â She LISTENED to us, she didn't disappear and brought the food pronto! Â I got chicken quesadillas which had some spiciness to them, not the usual velveeta blob I've had other places. Â Hubby got calamari which he said was seasoned nicely, but cut too thick. Â We both got small Caesar salads which had homemade croutons and some lovely shaved cheese on it.
So yes, this is a chain, but there's no similarity to any chains I've been to. Â Excellent service and BEER, what more can you ask for??
Had some good beer and decent food, on a night with limited options, i.e., out with the kids. Â This place met all our needs - steak for dad, mac & cheese and caesar salad for mom, beer for both of us, and that kiddie menu stuff for the rugrats. Â As the name implies, yeah, they brew their own beer. Â They're all about the lagers - no ale. Â I got the light lager, Andy got the red - four stars for mine.
The kiddie menu included a little tiny steak, perfect for my part-lion two-year-old son. Â They include apple slices and raw carrots on their plates.
So, for a kid-friendly restaurant that sadly falls into the chain trap of trying to be all things to all people, we did ok. Â The service was great and the food was good enough to have again, just nothing special. Â Their specialty is BEER.
I am suprised that this place has not been rated yet. Â This is a great place for lunch, dinner, or just a cool place to hang out with friends. Â This place is known for it's microbrews. Â Good Beer! Â They have like 5 brews and 1 that changes with the season. Â If you like hefeweizens, this is a place. Â They have all ranges of beers, pale to amber to wheat to stouts. Â Something for all tastes. Â SIGN UP FOR THEIR MUG CLUB! Â Not only is it free, but then you get free stuff (tshirts, bar glasses, caps, & stuff). Â They also email you when they do their tapping and you they free food & free beer. Â At nights, they also have bar food specials which are very good. Â In general, their food is not too bad, but I mostly go for the beer. Â Try the Fireman Wings when they have it. Â It's sweet, tangy, spicy, nothing but yummy yummy goodness. Â This is where you will probably find me after work.
Eat to live. Live to be happy!
