A good lunch oasis to bring your more high maintenance guests.  Surrounded by vegetation and a seemingly endless number of servers to wait on you hand and foot, it feels more like a tropical resort than an L.A. rooftop.  When even the bread basket includes your choice of five different breads, you know it is going to be an indulgent meal.  Of course, at $30 per lunch entree, you are definitely paying for all that service and ambiance.  The kitchen actually screwed up a couple of our orders, such as including an ingredient one of our party was allergic to when they had said they would leave it off, which kind of surprised me at a place like this, but they were pretty gracious about trying to fix it when they found out.  The food itself was solid and very well presented, but this is definitely a place you come more for the environment than the eating.  I'm not sure I would go out of my way to visit, but if you are in the area and need to impress someone with expensive tastes, the Roof Garden is a good option.

Eating on a beautiful building's rooftop on a delightful summer day - If you don't love this idea, we can't hang out.

The Peninsula has never disappointed me - their afternoon tea is amazing for special occasions, and The Roof Garden is nice for a more casual outing - a very "low-key", peaceful and private space, and service  is also  friendly and accommodating.

My only complaint is that much of the garden's gorgeous view is mostly hidden behind various shrubbery. eeh.

Nevertheless, last Sunday's brunch was my treat - and the whole experience was pleasant enough that I didn't feel ripped-off when leaving.

Had a dinner here with my best friend. She has special dietary restrictions but the Roof Garden was more than accommodating. The food wasn't anything to die for - but it was solid and tasty and huge portions.  I'd go back!

I've lived in LA for 14 years but somehow we have nailed the art of looking like tourists, so I wasn't sure how we'd be treated at this high-end poolside place.

The service was lovely.  Not crazy once-in-a-lifetime phenomenal, but very nice.  It was a gorgeous California day, it was the last day of a family visit and maybe that influenced the mood and my review.  Even still, the food was really good.  Possibly the best turkey burger of my life.  Seriously.  And another person got the lobster BLT which honestly was as big as my head and overflowing with super-fresh briny delicious lobster.  A perfect iced cappucino and a shared dessert left us all stuffed, with leftovers.

I do not think that for $40 a person for lunch you should have to parade through the hotel, down a hallway of people's rooms (ew), through the spa until you find the restaurant.  After that it's all good.

Laurent who is a staff member here is very rude and made us feel very uncomfortable with our visit to the bar and restaurant.

You will be lucky if they even look at you.

Never going back here again. :(

Searching for a place to take my out of town friends to lunch on Christmas day, I was pleasantly surprised to find that The Roof Garden was still wide open for lunch reservations on Christmas Eve and quickly booked.

With the meters off in Beverly Hills on Christmas Day and every other local establishment closed for the holiday, metered parking on the street was a breeze.  I definitely would not have been happy to pay the valet fee at the hotel but some people have mentioned that the restaurant does validate.

5 stars for the service. They definitely make you feel like you are someone important, and are very attentive and accommodating.  You would never know from their attitude that someone was making them work on Christmas Day.  My friends were about 20 minutes late, and they brought out a bread basket and water for me while I waited.  When my guests arrived, someone was quickly at the table to greet them.  When my friend said that she was vegetarian, the waitress not only pointed to all the vegetarian options on the menu, but suggested substitutions they could make to other dishes to make them vegetarian friendly.  This may be standard for LA, but my Nepali friends visiting from Singapore were very impressed.

4 stars for the view.  It wasn't a great day weatherwise, but I could tell that on a typical LA day, the view would be lovely.  The ambiance is great... it's by the pool, which gives the otherwise upscale vibe a more casual feel.

The reason for the 3 stars is the food / price. I know that you aren't paying for the food here, you are paying for the ambiance and view and I'm okay with that.  But it is still a bit overpriced ($20 to $30 for just an entree, at lunch... add on appetizers and drinks and you are looking at a pricey meal) given that the food is just okay.  It LOOKS great and the waitress told me the turkey burger was great, but it was really just okay.  My friend got the vegetarian pad thai and said it was a bit sweet.

Would I come here again? Probably only with out of town guests, but certainly in that situation.

I work down the street so we frequent this place quite often for team lunches etc.. I love being up on the roof. The wind, the view, the pool... the hot people who are in and around the pool... ;)

Make a reservation, they are busy at lunch and just don't seem enthusiastic if you don't have one. Service is exceptional, which is expected. I like that they have black and white napkins depending on what you are wearing, it's the little things that count.

The food is very good although I often find myself wishing there were more items that were my style. The things that I do like are a little bit expensive compared to the overall quality and experience which is why I'm giving 4 stars. I can still easily recommend this spot to anyone.

If you are not familiar with BH, the Peninsula is on LITTLE Santa Monica Blvd. Not the big on that runs the back side of the triangle and is called highway 2 on the map. Make sure you look carefully where this is or you will be confused and lost.

Street parking is pretty easy if you go a block away. I don't know the valet prices but obviously that would be the most convenient.

All four stars for service and the wonderful rooftop dining.

The food was okay for the price but not something I will go home craving.

The atmosphere and the service is just wonderful.  They make you feel special on your birthday and they also are very friendly not uptight waiters.

You'll def. love the atmosphere up here..you'll feel like you are on vacation and not trapped in the concrete jungle.

I made a reservation here prior to my trip to Hollywood. The most challenging thing was finding it - Santa Monica Blvd. splits in two and the GPS told me to take the thru traffic. After several loops around without finding it, despite the "you have reached your destination" message, I gave up. The last go-around I took the local traffic route and there it was. I parked on the street for $3 and walked to the hotel - although upon leaving I was asked if I needed parking validated.

The day was perfect weather, and although I was an hour late for my reservation, they took me. It wasn't busy and I had my choice of sun or shade. Yes, it's Beverly Hills and yes, its pricey, but I think it is definitely worth it. There have been cheaper placed I have went on this trip that haven't even acknowledged me, but the Roof Garden was a great experience.

Walking into the hotel I passed by doormen dressed in old uniforms, and the hotel staff pointed me in the proper direction to the elevator for roof access. The staff was very friendly and sat me quickly. They asked if I wanted a newspaper. I asked how far it was to the Universal Hilton where I was going for a runner's expo. Not only did they give me directions, one of the staff members who lived close by wrote directions for me.

I ordered a specialty drink ($16), the jalapeno margarita. I loved the flavor, but didn't really care for the seeds. I was hoping to go to the gym that afternoon so I went with a soup and salad. The soup of the day was a cream of mushroom soup with a truffle oil. I also ordered a spring salad and added chicken. The salad was on a small plate but piled high. It included flower petals (I didn't eat those). The meal also included a bread plate.

The price for the drink, soup, and salad was $52 - but it was a quiet, exclusive feeling dining experience, they offered a newspaper, they called me by my last name every time, and offered further service. I also had four different people attend to me during my visit.

This place is definitely worth the price. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I came here for lunch with m.l., ordered the lobster BLT (which was delicious), and  some delicious "red" vino to wash it all down with.

I left with a full tummy, a very nice wine buzz, and "her"...

The place has a GREAT atmosphere, impeccable service, and an extremely clean environment.

    Enjoy the super clean ambiance!

I like this place mainly for the atmosphere.  Not especially great views from the rooftop, but still a cute, outdoor dining experience.  Would be a great place for lounging/drinking/date because there is a cozy sofa area surrounding a fireplace.

Overall, the food here was good.

I came for lunch at the Rooftop Garden and it truly was a beautiful space.  White sail-like umbrellas and relaxed atmosphere.  Bright and sunny but not overbearing.  The service was top notch and very attentive.  I felt like I was some mafia movie where they are at a fancy hotel and living the high life.  Too bad I didn't have any casinos purchase deals to discuss over lunch.

I got the chilled lobster BLT and it was really good.  Lots of lobster, avocado, and bacon.  A bit too much and I could only eat half.  The sweet potatoe fries were so good!!  The pad thai, on the other hand, did not look that great.

Cocktails were not that great.  I got the blackberry caipirinha and something else.  The caipirinha was not made with cachaca but with rum, and maybe something else went awry.  Unimpressed.  And the other drink I got was even worse!  And cocktails were expensive.  Maybe around $15 to 17 each?  So just stick to the food I guess.

On those gorgeous, warm spring afternoons, the Roof Garden is one of my favorite spots to take a long lunch and just soak it in.  It's quiet, private, and the service is impeccable.  Try the fish tacos.

dinner on a monday night.  found street parking out front.  we were seated right away considering the place was almost empty at 8:30pm.

service was amazing throughout.  we ordered from the restaurant week menu which was forgettable.  standard salads and fish and chicken.  the dessert was great.  sweet potato mousse with berries and a dense chocolate cake bar.  delicious.

great views, great service, great company, so-so food, ridiculous price.  and don't expect complimentary refills if you order soda ...

great atmosphere. Great for an afternoon date or brunch with girlfriends. A bit pricey but worth it. Large portions but small menu, very healthy food so if you are not into that you won't like it.

the place is beautiful, the view is great it's great for romantic dinning the food is great but not much to choose from it's on the expensive side as well... But I'm basing my review on the service I received which was horrible, even though after the rest of the staff found out about it they tried to compensate for the lack of customer service provided by our waiter but at the end it was just too little too late... Our waiter ignored us pretty much through out the night I don't know why maybe because we were younger than the clientele he deals with there so he thought he may not get tipped but he was just rude...

Went here with a group of 10 for dinner and loved it!

The hotel is beautiful and the staffing is really nice. Dinner was good, we ordered pretty much everything from the menu and no one had a complaint. We're wild eaters so we order in bulk and nothing was left over...A good thing in my book. We also ordered tons of the blackberry pomegranite specialty drink because it was sooo good and refreshing. Even the boys (who usually just drink johnny neat) loved the fruity cocktail.

The ambience is nice. Not very garden-esk, if you ask me, but still pretty.  And heated floors is a cool bonus, esp since the night was a bit chilly. We asked the staff to turn on othe heat lamps and they were pleased to do so.

Extra points earned for them because they did not tack on gratuity, which most places do for a party of 10. Tab was expensive, but you get what you pay for. Definitely worth it.

If you can't find street parking then you can valet for $18.00. Or just go to the front desk to have them stamp for ticket, then you only pay $9.00.

Great place to dine, spend time with friends, and take in the scenery.

Bring a date, and you will feel like Very Important People while dining here. If you don't mind pay the price, this is one classy, beautiful experience to have. Each step on those marble tiles are like playing piano notes singing praise of (yet) another superfluous adjectives trying describe this place perfectly here. The dinner won't disappoint you, it is as good as it gets!

Came here for lunch at the roof garden.   The place is definitely fancy shmancy, good service, beautiful surroundings and the craziest bathroom I've ever seen.  Seriously, the spa bathroom has more ways to spray you with water than I even knew existed.

Ok, now for the food.  I got the burger, which comes with aged cheddar cheese and sauteed onions.  Good chunk of meat, onions turned out really well, and they actually put on enough cheese to make it worthwhile.  The bun was good, didn't fall apart too easily, but was a bit too greasy for my taste.  Patty was thick, juicy, and didn't taste too meaty.  Overall, quality burger, but it was a bit pricey for $19.

For dessert I got seasoned fruit with some sorbet.  Sorbet was light and good.  Fruit was the same thing you'd expect to get at any Ralphs.  So... definitely not worth the $9, or whatever it was.

Peninsula is one of those place that makes you feel like a VIP, a star - not to mention spotting some stars at times - not this time though.

Impeccable service and quite private, the Roof Garden is a great place to come for an intimate brunch or some drinks and apps.  Unpretentious and classy, if you don't mind the $16 cocktails, it's a pretty kewl place to hang out.  If you stay til it gets dark, you'll see the glows of the city lights while you're sipping a cocktail in a warm, breezy summer nite, right in middle of the city, which feels pretty neat.

    Brunch -
Grilled vegetable omelette:  Grilled asparagus and zucchini ordered on egg whites.  It was served with a roasted tomato salsa that added just enough kick and zing to the dish.

    Lunch/Appetizers -
Drinks: Their pomegranate mojitos are really refreshing and I guess at $16/drink, they should be.  Thought the combo was pretty creative and totally worked.  Their pina coladas are really good as well, made with 10 cane rum and coco lopez cream of coconut.

Apps: Hamachi ceviche - rolled in lemon zest and some kind of a leaf (shiso?) and served with what looked like a marinated tapioca jelly-like topping - it was refreshing, sweet, salty, and tangy and left a clean taste in your mouth.  Tuna tartare - beautifully presented in a tower with fresh avocado slices covering the sides - beautiful ingredients and simply tossed.  Great pairing with the cocktails above;)  Fish tacos (4 small tacos) - in their entrees section - but great to share.  Made with trout, I think - wasn't fishy at all.  Juicy with a flavorful cumin-based marinade (?), it was light and tasty.

    Summer BBQ tasting menu -
None of the heat lamps were working that evening as they were being used for a wedding party - so they lent us super-cozy shawls that we were while dining and it worked out great.  Glad we tried it but thought it was bit over-rated.

    $55/person (4-course dinner)
    - Gazpacho (refreshing with a kick of garlic and salsa- awesome)
    - Peking duck spring rolls (divine) and cucumber salad with black rice (just ok).
    - Ribeye with Jamaican jerk sauce - totally addicting!  Sweet, tangy with a kick - drizzled but not too much over a medium rare ribeye.
    - Dessert trio (frozen chocolate-covered banana on a popsicle stick, homemade chocolate chip cookie/vanilla ice cream sandwich, and dark chocolate brownie).  We were way stuffed to finish but they were all good~

For a little special event, for drinks or brunch, Peninsula roof garden is a wonderful place that will make you feel very special.

The Roof Garden is a great spot to go and mix it up a bit.  It's a little indulgent (not cheap), but the service is great and the food is tasty (light spa fare).   Reserve it for out of town guests who might like something a little fancy, on one of those quintessential SoCal days OR a day you want to make someone feel special.

A friend and I came here for a small reunion of hospitality professionals on a balmy Tuesday night.  This bar and restaurant are located at the top of the Peninsula Hotel.  As one walks through the lobby, you can't help but notice the marbled tile floors, carved furniture, and clean resplendence of the atmosphere.  The mirrored elevator disembarked us and we proceeded to the rooftop terrace. The dining area here was all white and very Floridian.  I wore Versace.

I consumed two glasses of a very nice Riesling, while my date had a timeless Margarita on the Rocks. We did not order any food here, but I did partake in the hors d'oeuvres going around, which included chicken quesadillas with guacamole and smoked salmon on crackers garnished with caviar. They also make a Jalapeno Margarita that peaked my interest, but I did not try it.

As this was a special function, we were informed that we'd be getting discounted or "Happy Hour" pricing for our drinks. This did not happen, and we paid full price.  Someone made an error here.  Also, there was some minor confusion in getting the bill - but this was remedied quite quickly.  I found the service staff and bartender to be knowledgeable and friendly.   Metered parking is easily accessible on Santa Monica.  While I did enjoy myself here, I'm not sure when I'll return, mostly due to the high prices.   But that Riesling was very good, and worth every penny.

This restaurant was chosen for an office lunch to celebrate a co-worker's birthday.  We knew it was the more casual spa restaurant of the hotel Peninsula serving only breakfast and lunch.  The setting is adjacent to the spa and the small hotel pool atop the roof, open air and shaded by shrubbery.  Service was very attentive and formal as you would expect in a high end hotel.  Started with the $18 Bellini for a cocktail.  The champagne glass was about half full.  This was actually addressed by our waiter later who brought me a complementary Bellini since he noticed that the glass was a short pour.  This guy's alright.  The other members of my party had the signature cocktail, some pomegranate mojito.  Another round of this drink was ordered so they must have enjoyed it.  The only good thing I could say about it was that it was strong and there was a lot of it.
Started with chili to share because seemed to be a hot dish since it was on both the Roof Garden menu and that of the hotel's high end restaurant, the Belvedere.  Folks, I hated this chili.  Its basically meatballs and a few beans in a very odd tomato sauce, some flavor I could not pinpoint but had no business being mixed up with chili.  Also tasted the Churrasco Skewers which were thick slices of steak on a stick atop a chimmichuri sauce.  This dish worked, nothing too fancy, simple.
I ended up ordering the wild caught salmon which was served with the chimmichuri sauce.  While the salmon was a nice little filet of fish, the sauce completely overpowered it and was totally unbalanced.  I tried the sesame crusted ahi which was dry and basically tasted like sesame seeds.  Also tasted the halibut which was served in a very watery curry.  While the fish was light and lovely, the sauce was bland and the dish was overall boring.
Perhaps we went about this all wrong, maybe this is a salad and ice tea place that should only be followed after a relaxing day at the spa or long day by the pool.  I don't know, but I wouldn't send you there.  The good points, the hotel is lovely, the service of the staff through the entire hotel was very nice and I saw Richard Lewis in the lobby.

I feel terribly under qualified to be the first to write this review  - for many reasons:
#1 The Peninsula Hotel (which I'm sure has dozens of 5 star yelp kudos) is fantastically glamorous and I've heard fantastic things about the spa - neither of which I had previous experience with.
#2 I was there for an office baby shower, and lets be honest - everything tastes different when there's a pregnant lady and your boss at the table.
#3 I made a poor choice in my order.  The tofu pad Thai was flavorful, but the noodles were slightly undercooked and I think they overused their leek supply.

What I CAN attest to is the lush surroundings - clean, white, comfy.  Very similar to the Polo Lounge outdoors, but the table clothes on the tables softened the look even more.   The service was attentive yet casual and portion size and plating was top notch.

The group I was with had nothing but raves about the halibut and seared tuna (which i should have gotten - raw pink to perfection ladies and gents).  The girls next to me also enjoyed their Cobb salad, but you really have to work to screw that up.

My main complaint - they list nutritional facts on the menu.  Yes. Calories, fat grams, cholesterol.  It's all there for you, and your company to notice as you order.  Unnecessary!

Again, apologies for having to be your go-to girl for now on this breakfast & lunch spot.  Someone please help a sister out and put your 2 cents in.
