Came here one evening last week after a Dogtown email from Yelp. The hubs and kids were in tow.
I'm glad we arrived when we did; the dining room filled up pretty quickly around 6 p.m. Our waitress was super-nice, and when I grimaced at her answer to my standard, "Do you have Coke or Pepsi?" question, she suggested a Diet Dr. Pepper. THANK YOU. I didn't remember STL being such a Pepsi town...
The hubs was torn between the reuben and the gyro, and I suggested the reuben. If you want a killer gyro, go to Olympia. Well, that was the case back in 2002, but haven't been there since returning. He said it was amazing.
Kids ordered a hot dog with fries and a grilled cheese with chips. The boy (youngest) seemed to like the hot dog, but who can tell? The girl said the grilled cheese and chips were both great.
Mama Bear ordered her old favorite, the cheeseburger. I was bummed to see the menu notation that burgers take 20-25 minutes, and that's no bullsh*t. I ordered medium well, but got medium rare. The flame broiled juiciness was so good, I didn't even care...my elbow was dripping, which is exactly how I like it. The crinkle fries, I am sorry to report, were a little undercooked. However, I ate every last one of them, cause that's how it is. The ranch was crazy thick, but really tasty.
I would definitely go back. The burger is one of the best I've ever had. Seems like a fun place to drink the night away.
Holy crap this place is amazing. I used to go here when I was a kid. Â I also used to drink here when I was a student at Wash U. So when I came to visit my hometown for the first time in 5 years I had to see this wonderful establishment again.
Wow. The food has gotten even better. The people are so nice. I could not have asked for more. Literally everything that was served was top notch. Burgers, steaks , and salads... Love it all.
While my most recent experience here left a lot to be desired, I already know I'll be coming back since it's so close to my house... so hopefully after my next visit I can give SM a star bump! I think I'll stick with just the bar experience instead of the food, though.
My sister, best friend and I came by for dinner this weekend to watch the SLU/Oregon game (for which I would give only one star if I could review it), and grabbed a seat in the main dining area by one of the TVs. There was a wedding party in the front/bar area, so unfortunately that was out. The first thing I noticed was that our server was clearly way too busy... she was missing in action for a while in the beginning, but once she came over, she was super friendly and helpful. The drinks we ordered were just fine, but the food was quite a bummer.
I LOVE a good reuben, and when there's one on the menu, it's usually what I go for. My sister ordered the same thing, and we were really disappointed. The corned beef was so dry that we had to take a bunch of it off, and there was hardly any of the swiss or sour kraut. It just was a big letdown, and the fries weren't very good either. My best friend ordered a caesar salad with grilled chicken, and there was hardly any dressing! Once she requested some to add on her own, it was a little better. I do have to sing the praises of one of their appetizers, though... provel haters, stop reading right now. We tried the "Dunk the Veggie," which is broccoli and cauliflower wrapped in provel cheese, breaded, then fried to a golden brown. It's served with a meat sauce, and holy cow this thing was just amazing.
I'll go back, as I said, when we're in the mood for a casual bar (and hello, have you seen the patio? It's perfect for warmer temps.) Hopefully next time will be a little better than the last!
The office went Friday to celebrate our vegetarian dining partner's birthday, which is March 17. We sat outside. And it was really pleasant. I thought I'd be cold out of my gourd. But it worked.
They've got Diet Dr Pepper . . . just  a note. But since they carry Pepsi products, I was disappointed that they don't have Diet Mountain Dew. They have Mountain Dew, but not diet.
Our vegetarian dining partner got the Seamus Salad ($6) -- Romaine and iceberg lettuces, Provel and Parmesan cheeses, tomatoes, and green and black olives with House dressing. This was one HUGE bowl of a salad!! It was nice that it was in a bowl (rather than on a plate), so she could toss it around well.
#2 got the Cod Sandwich ($7.75) -- Â 8 ounces fried. He chose fries as his side, but macaroni and cheese, or steamed broccoli also are offered. You can also get the code baked with a lemon-butter sauce for $8.25). And this sandwich is only available on Friday.
This was some massive sandwich. TWO large pieces of fried fish. Toasted bun. Generous serving of fries.
#3 got the Swiss Mushroom Burger ($8.25) -- Topped with two slices of melted Swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms. She chose fries as her side. Another massive sandwich. She said it was delicious.
I got the Gyro ($8) -- Grilled meat topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber sauce served in a pita. Â It came with a small Greek salad.
This was a modest sandwich. The gyro was good-tasting, the pita was fresh and fluffy. The meat was good, but it looked framed. Every piece was the exact same shape and size. That tells me it didn't come from a spit. The sauce was a little on the sparse side. But it was very good.
The Greek salad was delightful with feta, Kalamata olives and tomato.
Service was OK until we were finished, and it took way too long to get the check and get ourselves checked out.
I had a nice little to-go vessel that provided a tasty little meal.
Stopped in here because we heard it was the place for wings...They just were not that good so I am still in search of a decent chicken wing in STL. Â The skin was not crispy--in fact it was still a little flabby...but the sauce was good and they have the most amazing bleu cheese dressing ever....In fact I just want a bowl of that to eat like soup.........I got a small salad once I had that Bleu Cheese because I needed a vehicle to eat that on....and for a small salad you get a nice sized portion....We ordered a basket of fries and they were nothing special just ruffle fries from a bag and not seasoned at all...I wanted Fish and Chips and I guess that is only offered on Fridays. Â The bar reminded me a ton of another Irish Bar I used to go to in St. Paul called O'Gara's that was always a crowd favorite...but for me it is smack dab in the middle...Neither a Hit or a Miss.....
Review Source:Been here twice now...consistent that's a good thing! Â Got a burger and fries both times...Excellent charbroiled burger that is so big it is intimidating (10oz) fries are meah...but that's not why you come here! Â This last time I ordered some deep fried mushrooms as well...they were good...im bias i like mine battered not breaded. Â (they're breaded here) Â Customer service is top notch. Â will definitely be back :)
Review Source:One of my favorite spots in STL for a burger. If size is important to you you'll love a Seamus burger. Â Their flame broiled burgers are HUGE and are full of flavor. A flame broiled burger, just seems to be juicier. They offer crinkle cut fries as side and they always give me more then I can eat and I love fries. The fries are done crispy, but I am fairly certain they are from a bag.
Our last visit we discovered their Club Sandwich and Chicken Wings are also worthy of a good shout out. I love experiencing new items off their menu, but it is their burger that will always have my heart.
This dogtown staple focuses on some of our favorite bar food items and does them all well. Â It's very clear that this place has grown over the years. Â The front bar area has a cool old fashioned feel. Â As you meander into the adjoining rooms, you can tell that they were added on at a later date. Â They don't have that same warmth. Â The patio all the way to the back is totally different than the front area. Â The two walls are made of clear garage doors. Â You feel like you're outside without being in the elements. Â And there are TV's everywhere. Â
For food, we had the hot wings... perfect. Â A gyro plate... flavorful meat, and super soft pita bread. Â And a burger... large portion, cooked to order, with a slight char. Â On the downsides, both salads that we had were soaked with dressing. Â In the future, I'll request mine on the side. Â But the dressings themselves were super yummy and tasted like they were made in-house. Â
Service is ok... The 3 girls we dealt with seemed gruff but got the job done... almost Flo or Rossaneish. Â I think one of them could take me in a fight.
One of Dog Town's best! Â Pub grub very well done. Â We had an order of the wings, Â really some of the best in town. Â The SO had a cheese burger, served with fries.
I had the Club Sandwich, Â again, Â extremely well made and delicious. Â I'll be having the other half for dinner, Â it is really huge! Â Service is just as great as the food, Â very accommodating and warm. Â Atmosphere is very cool, Â the front half is pub dark and cozy but move toward the back and the back dinning room and enclosed patio are brighter and provide a great space to watch the Card's. Â They were winning when we left, Â I'm sure they still are!
This is another standard of "it is what it is and it is every time"!
My God the chili. I have to admit I'm a little picky about restaurant chili...it's never quite up to snuff...but I was here with a group of people and someone ordered the chili. Â I checked it out from afar and heard the ravings about it...and finally decided to give in and try it. That was some good chili...hearty...a little kick (not too much)...flavorful. Â Bravo Seamus McDaniel's...Bravo. Â
Other than that, it was a cool Irish bar...nice patio area...good atmosphere. Â Will stop by again next time I'm in town!
Whoa this food was good! A nice Irish pub right in the middle of Dogtown with lots of space, lots of food and beer options.
Tanya M., her nephew, Jason O., and myself showed up around noon today for some good ole pub grub. I was very surprised to see how extensive the menu was. Servers were flying pass our table with plates of all sorts of goodies that you couldn't help but to drool over. I've never seen so many huge hamburgers in my life!
We didn't have to wait long for our server to come to our table to take our orders and get our drinks. Jason and I ended up splitting the Reuben which came on marble rye, huge amounts of corned beef, sauerkraut, melted swiss cheese and a some sauce with chips. To accompany it we added a side dinner salad that was $3.50 in addition to the $8 Reuben. Not bad for 2 people who were extremely hungry. It was delicious in every way.
Tanya ended up having one of their chicken sandwiches that she enjoyed and her nephew had one of the burgers. OMG! The burger was so huge. It was one of the biggest burgers I have ever seen minus going to Kooky Canuck in Memphis that specializes in 4 lbs. burgers. You could feed two or three people with one of those things. Their items both looked really good and worth having on another visit.
Let me tell you about our server, Robin. She was awesome. Very personable, on top of everything, and didn't miss a beat. Our drinks were never low and she certainly had a great attitude. I like it when a server has a great personality and doesn't hesitate to show it. I realize she was slammed, even though that was the case she didn't show any negative emotion.
I liked the Irish pub feel. It felt like the real thing which I appreciated considering I lived in Ireland for a time. It made me feel like I was back there. Man, how I miss it.
Seamus McDaniel's was great. I most definitely would return.
There are plenty of other reviews if you looking for something legnthy to read.
I'll just say that Seamus McDaniel's serves what is hands down the best burger in Saint Louis.
They also have a huge covered patio, and lots of tasty libations on tap.
Everything else that needs to be said about Seamus McDaniel's can be read in Benjamin D's review.
Seamus has a whole bunch of cheesy selections, a huge patio, great servers, and very fair pricing.
I had the "Dunk the Veggie" appetizer, it was delectable. I also had the cheese sticks (mozzarella and pepper jack), buffalo chicken salad, fried mushrooms and more!!! I ended up eating/sharing it all!
Try them out for sure! You won't regret it!
:)
I am a blue cheese FA-REAK! Just can't get enough of the stuff. And this is the best blue cheese bacon burger I have yet to find in St. Louis. You know why? It's not because the beef itself is downright delicious - because it is, but that's not my point. It's ultimately because Seamus literally puts an entire fist full of blue cheese crumbles on top. Being stingy with the blue makes for a dry, boring burger...and stingy they are not! Most places are.
Also...ALSO...their blue cheese dressing is out of this world. It's homemade and super thick. I sometimes get a side of it to dip my fries in. So that's a blue cheese burger with a side of blue cheese dressing for my fries and, if you think that's gross, I think you're gross.
I've tried a good amount of items on the menu and haven't had anything bad yet. My only two complaints is that they serve crinkle cut fries that are kind of lackluster and you have to eat out of a basket - which I hate. Everything's touching and, yes, I probably need to get myself on some meds for that issue.
Anyway, my point is - BLUE CHEESE! It's awesome and they are using it properly!
I don't see where the love comes from.....I give it two stars b/c the waitress we had was super friendly and efficient. But other than that I would not return to this joint...ever!
For dinner we ordered onion rings, a Philly and a burger. I come from the east coast, the Philly was not the Philly I was hoping for! It was kind of like lunch meat roast beef or something with this piece of cheese that should have been melted, but wasn't and this overly huge bun. Ehhh no thanks! The burger, it was large but not very good. A little blah. -- sorry this place just wasn't for us.
I don't know when or why Seamus left my radar, but it is back squarely where it belongs. Its hard to describe how bad my Monday was this week. Working as a financial guy, when work goes bad, it goes so unbelievably bad that you lose your breath. As I waved goodbye to tens of thousands of dollars before noon, I simply picked up my keys, calmed myself and walked out of my building, hopped into my car and just started driving westbound on HWY 40.
So I suddenly convinced myself that I deserved a 2,000 calorie lunch and was craving a burger. I thought Blueberry Hill, thought McGurks, thought O'Connell's and then smiled and decided it was time for some Dogtown.
First off, the restaurant/bar is in the heart of a great Irish Neighborhood in STL called Dogtown. I pulled in to an already packed bar of men over 50 drinking Budweiser's. Its hilarious how all old Irish men start to look the same into their 50's and 60's. Their hair turns white, their faces turn red, their noses, ears and eyebrows literally double in size and they start wearing khaki's, sweaters and flat Irish hats. Its like everyone is on a mission to look like Ted Kennedy.
I grabbed a STL Post, had a big table and ordered the Bacon BBQ Burger w/ chedder and subbed out the fries for the onion rings. A smarter man would have taken off the tie and dress shirt and just walked in with a vneck, because this baby was huge, sloppy and delicious. The buns are great, burger is cooked medium rare to perfection and I fucking destroyed the thing to the point where I had that feeling of paranoia that other people were buying tickets to watch this fat guy murder a burger. Only complaint was that the onion rings were below average. They were flaky and fell apart.
Thank you Seamus for reminding me why you are the best Irish burger bar in STL.
Bar Food circa 1992 plus the usual beer suspects you'd expect from an Irish themed bar. Â Other than the beer, there's nothing much here I would associate with Ireland, especially, but it is a good neighborhood watering hole.
We do really like the big outside area, especially on a day like this past Saturday, when it was maybe 80 degrees and sunny. Â There were a couple of bigger parties hanging out and having a few beers - definitely a recommended way to enjoy Seamus McDaniel's. Â By the time we left, at 2 or so, there were quite a few tables occupied inside. Â
We had a burger with Provel (not the cheese we'd usually select, but with the burger being a little overcooked, this was a good choice). Â We also had a grilled Buffalo chicken sandwich. Â Also fine. Â The onion rings are of the mega thick variety and were good.
The ambience?  Same as twelve years ago - same tables, chairs, gum I put under one of the tables...nothing has changed and they don't seem eager to evolve.  Sometimes that's okay, but this time it kind of made me wish we would have tried something a little more interesting.  If you've never been, and you like good bar food, want a couple of cold beers or  a big burger. definitely stop by. Â
If we come back in the next five years, it will be due to the convenience to Forest Park or because we want outside seating and we're oretty sure there will be a table. Â Definintely not because we want to try something new.
One more thing: I never really put gum under a table here, but if I did, it would still be there..
Who needs McDonald's when you've got McDANIELS!!??
Alright, Mr. McDaniel's doesn't have a dollar menu, but listen to me now, if you love burgers, you have to check this place out. I went recently for a good friend's birthday, and I felt like I'm the one who got the present! I've only tried one burger there, the BBQ bacon burger, but I have to say that it was absolutely amazing!
The meat was tender, the bacon cooked just right, the buns were great, and all of the extras were fresh and tasty.
It was not only quality, but the quantity also was a huge plus for a big guy like me. Instead of leaving me wishing, "Man, I wish I had more!" I left with a full and satisfied tummy.
I'm definitely looking forward to going back again to try another burger from their menu. If Seamus McDaniel's works his burger magic again, I'll give them 5 stars.
I'd heard big things about Seamus McDaniel's--that it's the best burger ever, that it'll change my world... Â Turns out they make a good burger, but that's just it--it's good. Â Not too special.
I liked the place, though--totally laid-back with friendly service. Â We went on one of those weird Spring days that was actually cold, so Justin had a bowl of tasty chili and I had bowl of their cream of broccoli. Â The weird thing about that? Â I'm pretty positive it was Campbell's. Â From a can. Â I won't pretend I don't like Campbell's salty cream of broccoli soup, but hey, man, I can make that stuff at home. Â Oh well.
I'm a sucker for jalapeno poppers stuffed with cream cheese, so we had some of those as well--quite tasty. Â And like I said, the burgers were good. Â Enormous, too, so we each had half a burger to take home as leftovers! Â Fries were of the frozen crinkle variety. Â Blah.
I wouldn't be opposed to visiting Seamus' again, but if I really want a burger, I'd rather hit up O'Connell's.
I just want to get one thing straight. Seamus McD's is not my kind of place. But the SO came home from work on a Saturday and wanted a burger. He's not the kind of guy to walk into a room and declare what he wants, so I didn't think twice about finding him the best burger I could. I remembered that Seamus McD's had a very popular beef meat patty.
Those of you who know me, know that I have a very strange relationship with meat products, so I immediately Yelped it and looked up the menu. Abby S mentioned the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich in her review. As I looked over the menu, I discovered that was one of about 3 three options I had to choose from. I'm not knocking stars for that. I knew this going in.
Unlike Erin G (Love ya, hun!!!), I find crinkle cut fries in a restaurant totally offensive unless they are obviously cut that way in-house. S McD's fries did not strike me as freshly cut at all...Don't pour something out of a freezer bag, dump a whole bunch of it on a plate (or basket in the case of S McD's) and call it good.
Let me back up a little, this whole experience didn't start out well. We decided to sit at the tables in the bar area. I saw the bartender delivering drinks to another table in the area, so I assumed she would come to us to get our order. Not so. Girl had her bitch face on and wouldn't even look at me. Seriously. I was staring at her and she looked over me multiple times. It may be the case that we needed to order at the bar, but the least she could have done was wave me over, or tell me that when she was delivering beers to the table next to us. We sat there for about 5 minutes before we decided we probably just needed to blow off the bar and get seated.
We went to the hostess and were seated out on the heated patio. The vibe out there was way more relaxed, which I really appreciated considering I wanted to get all harpie on the bitchy bartender a few minutes before. We also suddenly started to get decent service as soon as we were actually seated. So the B ordered a burger and I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. We also ordered a round of whatever Six Row beer was on tap (my guess = the Whale). Beers arrived, food arrived.
The portions at S McD's are huge. My sandwich came with ranch and had been dipped in hot sauce with a slice of provel. Was it good? Yes, as things dripping with sauces and grease are. Would I ever order it again? Probably not. It was just a huge mess of disgustingly unhealthy food. I'm not the kind of person that can be impressed by a massive portion of food. That paired with my resentment about the fries put a serious hitch in my giddyup and the plans for the day had to be scrapped on account of my pissed off internal organs.
So, my totally subjective review of this place- Other people will love this place. Me? I'll just have a sandwich in a glass (beer) and call it day.
Seamus' is a place I totally have been missing out on! I had never been here yet, and now I know what I have been missing. It's a great place to just chill with friends, nothing crazy going on here but loads of good ole eating and drinking. However I have heard this place is nuts during St. Patrick's Day festivities!
Although I did not have anything to eat but the cheese sticks appetizer, what my friends had for dinner (house salads and burgers) looked soooo yummy! I wished I had not already eaten before coming here.
The drink selection was your typical Irish bar fare, but they had Magner's cider on tap, which made my night complete!
Their patio is covered in the winter and is the place to be if you want to be away from all the smoke and commotion. The bar area is a bit tight, but a fun place to hang if you can find a spot.
The service was great as our glasses were never empty. I will definitely be back!
Seamus McDaniel's is a place to love.
I've been here a handful of times now, and on each visit I've been consistently greeted with the things I've come to expect from McDaniel's: above-average service, plentiful and varied seating, a big menu, and one heck of a good burger.
Come into this corner spot in Dogtown, take a table -- the heated "patio" is a preferable option to the smoky inside section -- and before long you'll be looking over the menu at the appetizers. Â Andy's pick: either the "Dunk the Veggie" or the "Hot Poppers," which are both variations on the same theme: deep fried vegetables, cream cheese-filled in the latter case, served with dipping sauces. Â Yeah!
If it's your first trip (or second or third, for that matter) to McDaniel's, you can't go wrong with the burger. Â The Seamus Cheeseburger ($7.50 or so) seems to be the crowd favorite: it's a BIG burger, overdiametered, served on a sesame seed bun and nested in an awfully big pile of crinkle-cut french fries served just right.
My last visit I tried the chili and New England clam chowders. Â Both were okay, probably 3-star worthy, but were also the cheapest thing on the menu, and I wasn't very hungry.
The beer selection here is also good. Â I haven't ordered one in a while, but nobody ever seems disappointed.
Seamus McDaniel's, as far as I'm concerned, has the best non-chain burgers in the St. Louis area. Â I'm embarrassed to admit that Five Guys may still have a better formula, but if you gasped when I typed that, McDaniel's is, without a doubt, for you.
This was my first time at Seamus McDaniel's and I have to say I was a bit apprehensive. When you walk in it's a typical pub: some patrols grumbling at the stray ray of sunshine that sneaked in through the open door, some smoke in the air, and a layer of unidentifiable dinge on everything. On top of that I'm not the biggest fan of pub food, well not on purpose really. Late night, one too many and I'm the world's biggest fan. But that's a review for a different day.
Moving on. Burger + Bacon + Blue Cheese was perfection. The burger was huge and cooked perfectly, not over done or burnt crispy bits here and there. Plenty of blue cheese and thick bacon. Here I go drooling again. The fires were a little soggy for my liking, but then again I can be a bit of a fry snob. The service was adequate, my Dr Pepper (thank you!) was always full. The non-smoking side of the pub wasn't smokey and there were tv's within sight of each table to check on scores, or watch cartoons as one was prominently showing Sponge Bob. Â
I'll return to burger again Mr McDaniel.
I loved Seamus McDaniel's. Â It's got a nice pub ambiance without feeling overly like a sports bar (though a hush like no other fell over the place when the Cards game started). Â Most of the patrons besides myself were dressed in Hawaii shirts, and it became a challenge deciding whether the next person to come in the door would be wearing one. Â I should note that a lot of people were smoking but it really didn't seem smoky inside.
The service was great. Â Our waitress was really nice and there when we needed her, but didn't hover over our table. Â I even got picky with my order and she got everything perfect.
I ordered the chicken sandwich with onion rings instead of fries.  You only get a  handful of onion rings but they are Godzilla-sized (seriously, they fry about a quarter of the onion).  The chicken sandwich was also designed for some creature bigger than myself; I nearly dislocated my jaw eating it.  It was so, so good.  Prices were very standard - around $10 a person.
I've already got Seamus on the brain: Â I will return, very very soon.
My next stop on my quest for the greatest sandwich led me to Seamus - home of some of the greatest sandwiches in town. And yes, I do call a burger a "burger sandwich". We stopped in on a dreary Thursday night and the food did not disappoint. I had the infamous Seamus Chicken Sandwich, fried of course. It comes with honey mustard and bacon and it is HUGE! If you are craving deep fried goodness, stop in for the Seamus Chicken sandwich. My wife had the "burger sandwich", also known as the Seamus Burger, and it is one of the best in town. Whenever I am craving a burger, I always think of Seamus first.
Seamus is a blue collar bar in the heart of dogtown, and they do a good job of keeping the smoke out of the restaurant area. They also have a nice patio in the summer months. A great place to come and enjoy a pint of Guinness and some old fashioned cooking.
In honor of the St. Patrick's holiday season, my friends and I decided to try Seamus McDaniel's Pub in the Irish borough of Dogtown. The establishment had a 'hole in the wall' feel but was more of a warehouse than a hole! In addition to the extremely spacious and eclectically decorated restaurant and bar, they also had an enclosed patio. We found a table in no time.
The service was friendly and quick. We ordered and in a matter of minutes our appetizer arrived.
I had read on Yelp that the burgers were great, and I was determined to put them to the test. They did not disappoint! I ordered the Bleu Cheese Bacon burger and it was one of the best cooked burgers I've had in a long time. Especially since I asked for a 'medium-well' burger. It was tender and juicy despite being brown all the way through- a difficult thing to get right which just goes to showcase the talent in the kitchen at McDaniel's.
I had a bite of my girlfriend's burger too, the BBQ burger and it was just as good (if not slightly better!) than my own. She had asked for a medium burger and that is exactly what she got- which also indicates the high caliber of the chefs at McDaniel's. Too often we've gone out and asked for 'medium' and 'medium-well' only to be served the same burger. The fact that we each got what we asked for speaks volumes.
Not only that, but both burgers were huge! 10 oz! Woo! That plus an extreme amount of fries for less than $10 made it an extremely affordable meal.
It also happened that my friend was drinking Guinness. The waitress came up to him with a round on the house. Â She told us that another patron had ordered it, but changed his mind and she decided to give it to a customer rather than throw it out. DEFINITELY A NICE TOUCH!!!
Great space. Great food. FANTASTIC SERVICE. I recommend Seamus McDaniel's to everyone interested in having an excellent eating experience!
Mmmm, burgers. A previous reviewer said that Seamus McDaniel's doesn't serve burgers, they serve huge meaty orgasms on bread -- and they were SO right.
I ordered the BBQ Burger, and it was the hugest, juiciest, tastiest burger I've had in a WHILE. It arrived cooked to a perfect medium, just as I requested (and this is a HUGE deal, because it's rare that restaurants get this right anymore!). The fries were crispy and a delicious golden brown.
The restaurant itself is HUGE. Lots of indoor seating, a bar, and a huge patio. I saw a few kids running around, so It's a kid-friendly place as well, at least during the early evening (who knows how it is later at night, especially since St. Patty's Day is right around the corner!).
Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. One guy in our party ordered a Guinness. Later she brought him another Guinness on the house because someone else had ordered it and changed their mind. Nice.
I could definitely see myself returning here when I have a craving for a giant (and I mean GIANT!) burger.
Seamus McDaniel's has a buffalo chicken sandwich that I dream about - deep fried and delicious! Unfortunately, I'm only allowed to eat this sandwich about once a year because it gives me the worst indigestion known to man. It takes at least 2-3 days to recover completely and then about another 11 months to forget the pain.
Therefore, I give Seamus a solid three stars. I love the cozy atmosphere, love the neighborhood and the french fries are crinkly. If they would only serve their fried food with a side of antacid, then it'd be more like a four or five star restaurant!
Despite the 15 minute wait, Seamus McDaniel's was probably one of the best places that I have eaten at for burgers, fries, and a good old fashioned time. Â The space is huge! Much larger then I would have thought, and I started off with a few drinks before being seated. Â I was with a friend and we ordered chicken wings, which came out very fast and were absolutely delish! I couldn't stop eating them and I knew I had a huge burger and salad coming out as well.
We polished off our wings, dunked some bread sticks in the blue cheese dressing (yum!) and devoured our salads and soup (chicken tortellini). Â Wow everything just seemed to get better and better.
Then our burgers came out. I had a cheddar burger with extra pickles. My favorite!!! And polished off pretty much the whole thing. It was fantastic. It was cooked perfectly, medium rare...and it was great. I couldn't help myself from trying to finish the whole thing even though I was over the top full.
YUM SEAMUS MCDANIELS! I highly recommend this place if youre in the mood for some good old American grub. =)
Remember that perfect July Saturday where the St. Louis heat seemed to evaporate and EVERYONE decided to take their kids to the zoo? Â Yea, I was one of those fools with the same plan.
Ordinarily this would stress me out. Â I hate to give up my secret here, but it's too good not to share. Â I had lunch at Seamus' with some friends and their kids first, we left the cars parked, and walked the 4 blocks to the zoo and avoided ALL the zoo traffic. Â
I got this idea from the waiter at Seamus'. Â Great food and good tips on how to best maneuver the zoo...I wish I wish I could give this place 6 stars.
I have been inactive for the past couple months, because no restaurant has made me want to share its existence with the world. That has all changed since I went to Seamus McDaniel's.
After coming here with a bunch of friends on a perfect Saturday for lunch, I was greeted with a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing staff dressed in green. Tables were plenty and it looked like everyone was having a good time. Since it was my first time there, I asked the waitress what she would recommend, and she proposed that the bleu cheese burger was the best burger out there.
Now I don't normally eat bleu cheese, and I've never had it on a burger, but I thought I would give it a go. The food came out in a reasonable time, and magically my water cup would never be empty. It would be 75% gone, I would say a statement to my friends, and I look back and it's full! Amazing service.
The food was incredible, and the burger took me an entire 15 minutes to finish. Everyone stopped talking when the food arrived; we were all busy and focused on eating and enjoying our food. The burgers come with crispy fries and a 1/4 of a pickle. Perfect lunch. I will definitely be back more often.
Seamus McDaniel's has the best bar food in St. Louis. Â There, I said it. Â The burgers are heavenly, but the chicken sandwiches give them a run for the money. Â The fries are meh, but the onion rings are incredible. Â It's the perfect place to meet up with your buddies and catch up, or hang out after a day in Forest Park. Â Inexpensive, quick, good service, nice atmosphere.
So why 4 stars and not 5? Â To tell you the truth, I'm not sure myself. Â But there's something that stops me from giving it that 5th star. Â Maybe it's the fact that they allow smoking, maybe it's the disappointing fries, maybe it's that locals tend to make a HUGE deal out of this place when in fact it's not mind-numbingly amazing, merely great.
Or maybe Seamus is the type of place that doesn't need fancy stars to let you know how great it is. Â Unlike some other "great" burger joints in St. Louis *COUGHblueberryhillCOUGH* it hasn't been overhyped to tourists as a must-eat St. Louis restaurant, so it's populated mostly by locals. Â Good for you, bad for the tourists.
I just have one word... Â BURGER. Â Their burgers are the best, their drinks are hearty, and they have a great beer garden to eat and drink them in. Â The rest of the menu is common, but the BURGER, oh the BURGER is not.
Seamus McDaniel's is located on Tamm in the Dogtown neighborhood. Â It's been a staple of the neighborhood for many years. Â Don't let it die like Chuy's. Â The loss of their burgers (the BEST in St. Louis) would be a serious loss!
I feel guilty even writing this review- but in my mission to find the best burger in St. Louis I must be fair. Although I have frequented Seamus McDaniel's since I was a lass (family lives in Dogtown). I felt in order to be true to the process I had to eat there again.
Folks I am sad to say that this evening at 6:32 PM Seamus McDaniel's failed the best burger challenge! I ordered a cheese burger with cheddar cooked medium and fries. My fries were lukewarm at best and the outside of my burger was charred- and not in a good way. There was not even a hint of pink- as a medium burger dictates and my dining companion actually found a very nasty fatty lump in his burger - aaa YUCK!!
So sorry folks but Seamus has failed us!
