It was empty when we got there, we went after night classes. Maybe it would be a lot better if the place was a bit more dim? But that doesn't really matter, the service and the quality of food and drinks are really good.
They have nice, cheap beer. We got a pitcher of Coors Light for $8, and at that time I believe a bottle of beer was $2. The subs are really good and affordable. Me and my friends got the meatball sub, the tuna sub, and the chicken bbq sub - all with no complaints.
It's a nice place to go to when you just want to chill out and grab a bite, maybe catch some sports and talk without that noisy bar atmosphere.
Love this place. It's down the street from my J.O.B. My buddy's nickname is Sepi and he loves Guiness so I brought him here. We came here for lunch. I had the pastrami sam mitch... buddy had the bbq one, and another the sepi club or something. Everyone was happy with the food. I wish they had fries but chips are fine. 8^P
The employees are very friendly. Seems to be a lot of regulars. They have a bunch of T.V.'s so we'll be back for a game and happy hour. Cool spot!
This place definitely looks like a fun spot for undergrads (especially those that are really into beer and sports). I didn't believe my friends when they said it's more a bar than a sub shop, until I walked in during a UCLA basketball game. It was packed and very lively. There are multiple TVs around the bar, so everyone in the house can watch
They sandwich menu had a lot of options and seemed really flexible. I got a basic vegetarian sandwich to go, and was honestly not that impressed for the price I paid (but that could just be me comparing to subway prices lol). anyway it's not a bad sandwich. And is probably much better enjoyed there with a cold beer.
They also cater. I went to a student group event where they had Sepi's sandwich platters and salad. It was actually a lot yummier than when I went there on my own. I plan to go back and try them again.
Sandwich was delicious! Had a turkey sandwich and added salt and pepper, mayo, mustard, and avocado. 4-stars instead of 5 because I thought the price was a little on the expensive side. Although, they sandwiches are pretty hefty. Â So, probably is worth the price.
I work at the UCLA Extension office, which is literally on the other corner. Very convenient -- will probably be back.
We were actually going to Sal's but found parking outside Sepi's. I got the Italian, the standard test of a good sub shop.
A little odd that the sub comes standard with all the fixings rather than being asked if you want peppers and onions. Actually had to list withouts rather than withs.
The bread was good and soft, the meats and veggies fresh, but nothing here really stands out. Notably, the prices are fair and the beer is cold. Also of note, a few gnats making themselves comfortable.
Kinda shocking the guy behind the counter was working by himself at 4 on a Saturday. He was working quite hard to keep up with customer requests, so props to him.
Overall a 3.5, but I refuse to round up on Yelp. Not opposed to returning, but not fully recommending either.
Casual bar, lots of UCLA fan-friendly decor, nice beer prices, especially during UCLA games.
Lunch isn't bad either, the 6" sub combo is actually pretty decent. The sandwich more than the sides, which are prepacked things clearly made decently, but still pre-packed...
It's a place I want to try to like, but it's so small inside, it actually seems a little too small for its own good.
Despite changing ownership a few years ago, the people who run this place still seem to be in touch with the students and customers. Cheap pitchers and decent food make this a great place to hang out with friends and watch a game. The staff is very friendly and will happily lend a deck of cards to play with. A humble establishment with UCLA sports memorabilia on the walls. This place feels like what Barney's Beanery tries to be.
Review Source:I just got a sandwich to go, but the bar looked pretty good. Â Seemed to have nicely priced beer, and you could actually hear the game on the TV. Â I like that, a lot of places don't do that.
I had a typical sub with turkey, bacon and avocado. Â It was very good, but the bread lost all integrity about halfway through. Â Very VERY hard to eat. Â Had it held up, it would have been a definite 4 star place.
The potato salad is fine. Â It's usual potato salad.
5 p.m. on a Hot Summer day. Â I was in the mood for an ice cold lighter American lager on tap. Â The Happy Hour menu said that they had Budweiser and Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap for $3 for a small mug, $10 for a pitcher. Â Perfect! Â The bartender / sandwich maker said they don't stock either one. Â But they did have the other tap micro beers for $4 and $14. Â False advertising. Â It a small little hole-in-the-wall place with about 6 small tables and the bar. Â UCLA sports theme decor. Good microbrew selection (about 8 choices on tap), if that's what you want. Â Not cheap beer, but reasonable.
No traditional American tap beer like Bud, Coors, Miller. Â Trendy brews for students. Â
Service was slow because there was only one little dude working doing everything. Â
I didn't try the food. Â Parking is awful in Westwood...no suggestions...good luck with that.
Sandwiches are surprisingly underrated, they have huge stuffed sandwiches for around 10 bucks. I personally really like the turkey club! The ambience is pretty cool, with bar lights and bar seating everywhere. it is surprisingly dead most of the time, but on tuesdays they have really great beer specials. i would definitely recommend you check it out!
Review Source:Like Sara R., I ordered the pastrami sandwich, getting it with a drink and bag of chips for $2 extra. Â The sandwich really was quite gross: it was salty and greasy, just like she said. Â To be honest, the salt and grease were pretty much what I expected; I'd give the sandwich three stars. Â But the salad that came with it was a sad affair and my chips tasted a bit rancid. Â The diet Coke from the fountain and the soccer game on TV were the high points of the experience.
This is probably a good place to go with a small group of people after a hard day of work or play. Â You can wind down, watch sports on the TV, and get a bit wasted. Â Meh!
I love Sepi's!!! The Westwood wrap seems like it would be just another turkey wrap, but it must be sprinkled in crack or something. It is toasty, flavorful, crispy, soft and delicious all at the same time. Some of the other sandwiches are awesome too, but I usually go fo the wrap. Sepi's also has great beer specials such as cheap pitchers of beer.
The restaurant has been in Westwood forever, which is really saying something with the rate that stores and restaurants close in Westwood Village. The atmosphere is like a traditional bar with televisions playing sports, and college flags up. it's a cool place to hang out with friends or just order a sandwich to go.
I would highly recommend getting one of their hot sandwiches as opposed to the colder club-style sandwiches. Â The pastrami is my favorite, but notice that it comes with just the meat and some pickles unless you ask for it. Â They have a nice lunch combo for $2 more that you get a fountain drink and bag of chips.
Great location for students and ucla workers alike, and perfect if you want to catch the latest uefa matchup or college basketball game. Â Tables are small, so come only with a group of 4 max.
In the last few weeks I tried out every sandwich place in Westwood. Sadly, Sepi's came in last. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. It's just OK. I tried the sandwich that was named after the store called the Sepi club or something. It was small for the price. The meat was good the bread was just alright. It was a bit rough, I guess some people like that.
Anyway the sandwich was decent. All I would like to say is that it's a bit pricey for what it is and the staff isn't very welcoming, at least not when I was there. It's not bad. The decor is kinda cool, UCLA pride!
Sepi's isn't terrible and I wouldn't even avoid it. I'm just saying compared to the three other sandwich places within two blocks of Sepi's, I would choose Sepi's last every time.
I don't know how long Sepi's has been in Westwood, but I tried it for the first time last week. That was probably my first time going to a bar for lunch but not an unusual decision. The chicken quesadilla was pretty good; it's under "bar snacks" which are usually served after 3pm (but they made it for me anyway). It was way bigger than I expected, like full-on meal status, not just a snack. My friend got the pastrami sandwich which was ok. Basically, it was pretty salty and small. We would have rather gotten Subway sandwiches. Pitchers are available! They have a lot of different imported beers on tap, which is awesome! We got a pitcher of Stella to share :] A cold beer in the afternoon is always oh so refreshing :D
Review Source:I've always been hesitant to try Sepi's Submarines since I always got a sketchy vibe from it. I have walked by several times from strolling around Westwood but repeatedly disregarded it. So when Joe and I were trying to find a rather cheap and efficient place to eat, he suggested Sepi's while I initially shrugged at the thought.
Located on Le Conte street just around the corner of In 'N Out, it's a pretty small sports bar/restaurant. Well, I guess I wouldn't say it's really a restaurant...more like an eatery. It's quite stuffy in there, but it looks like an okay place to grab a beer and watch a game on their 5 different flat screens that they managed to squeeze in there. Not bad, especially for SNF or MNF...or even TNF. Anywho, since it was stuffy and hot in there, Joe and I figured we'd grab our food to-go and sit outside somewhere to people watch the many characters of Westwood.
Since neither of us were starving and both wanted to save room for froyo for dessert, we decided to split a 12-inch sub combo. We ordered the BBQ Chicken submarine with a side of macaroni salad and a sprite. The 12-inch sub was reasonably priced at $8.95 with an extra $2.00 for the combo. So $10.95 plus tax for a filling meal - great!
The sub was pretty huge and had BBQ shredded chicken, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes with a sort of honey-ish mustard dressing. It came on a toasted sesame baguette. The chicken was really tasty and wasn't dry as I typically expect chicken to be. The American cheese was melted and had that delicious cheesy taste. Both of us liked it a lot - it had a lot of complementing tastes. The macaroni salad was just okay... there was something about it that I didn't quite enjoy. We should have gone with the potato salad but oh well.
We were both full at the end but still managed to get some Red Mango froyo at the end. The only downside to Sepi's was the outrageously annoying and rude crop of frat guys who thought it'd be fun to take their shirts off and scream at the waitress to "change the damn channel to the UCLA game!" - Come on guys, I get excited about the games too but I'm not going to be obnoxious about it.
As a long time resident of Westwood Village and a former UCLA Alumni, this was my first time steppin' into Sepis and let me tell you why it didn't disapoint.
Location: Westwood Village. Close to the In-n-out and Didy Reese.
Parking: This is one of the downsides to this place and almost anything in Westwood. There isn't a motherfuckin' place to PARK! They have 3 spots in the back alley way that are always full. Though, what I do is I park at the Chevron across the street and walk over.
Employees: The only girl I really noticed was this super cute, short Mexican girl? I don't know. She might have been Filipino or something. But she was super tanned. I think she was orange. Think Snooki from Jersey Shore. I think her name was like Fauna or Lana or something. She was super sweet and bubbly. Kudos to the management for hirin' such attractive & sweet employees so I can keep on comin' back for sandwiches and million dollar smiles.
Patrons: UCLA crowd/Fellow Westwood Patrons. It's like a mini-sports bar. Think of Maloneys but on a much smaller scale but with a sandwich shop mixed into one.
Venue: It's tiny but it's quaint. They have TV's for all you sports fans and beer on tap.
Price: A little bit more expensive then a 5 dollar footlong. But well worth it in my opinion. It's about maybe 1 dollar more. You can get a regular sub or a large sub. I opted for a regular sub. Good size. It's about 6-7 bucks I believe and the large is a bit more expensive.
Sandwich: As a first timer, I didn't know what to get. So I asked the Filipino Snooki for some advice. She suggested that I get the Cold Sepi's club.I specifically said "No Bacon". However, when I eagerly unwrapped my sandwich I noticed that it was partly warm and partly cold. As I devoured my sub I noticed that there are indeed hot traces of Bacon. Now.... I don't know if it was the person who took my order's fault. I'm sure it was or the guy who made my sandwich. A simple mistake and I'm sure it never happens. Though, if I had a Bacon Allergy (Which I don't) then I would have DIEEEEEEED. However, wouldn't mind havin' that girl give me some mouth to mouth.
*The Avocado was excellent in my sandwich. Also, the bread was very soft. The thing that sets apart a sandwich from others it the bread. If your bread sucks than your sandwich sucks. The bread was really good and topped with the toppings and meat. It made my sandwich taste amazzzzzzzzzzzing.
*Overall a good sandwich and a good venue. I'd definitely come back here again if I was in my early 20's, drank, and wanted to meet people. Alas, I'm not. I guess I'll just come here for the sandwiches...
Lately I have been going to Sepi's at least once a week for lunch, and what's not to like about this place? Â A sandwich combo with potato salad and drink comes out to an oh-so reasonable $9. Â I've attached some pictures of the food, with my current faves (so far) being the Italian sub and hot pastrami. Â The bar stools are very comfortable, and they always have the TVs on some kind of sports. Â I also like the self-service drinks and friendly service that you get from the nice girl at the register and the people bringing your food.
If you work in the area, you're pretty much crazy if you don't add this place to your lunch rotation. Â See you next week, Sepi's!
Great Service. Great Atmosphere. AWESOME SANDWICHES.
Its not always easy to find good service in Westwood, but Sepi's probably had the best service I've found in a while. Order the Sepi Sub and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I will definitely be coming back to watch some games on one of their many flatscreen TVs.
Sepi's is an awesome little sports bar in the Westwood / UCLA area with a great selection of sandwiches, wraps, and beers. Â The average price of all the menu items is around $8, which is perfect for the oft-broke college student on a budget. Â Beers are pretty cheep too; about $4 for a pint. They have FAT TIRE!
I met up with a friend here last night with no preconceived notions or prior experience and we were both pretty happy with the overall experience. Â I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap, while Jesse M. tackled the Hot Pastrami Sub. Â The food was excellent and it came out in record time. Â The contents of the wrap were well balanced, flavorful, and I really dug the mixture of warm (chicken) and cold (lettuce and caesar dressing) ingredients. Our server was a doll and totally attentive. Â
But the peice de resistance... our perfectly happy dinner was momentarily interrupted when a cacophony of flatulence escaped the anal cavity of a rather portly fellow the next table over.
Who does that?!?
Gaseous discharges aside, we had a (dare I say) blast. Â
Great food, great service, and great company. Â
Get some!
Sepi's has a great selection of beers that also happen to be cheap! Am I still in shock with price differences from NYC to LA? Possibly, but still....
This is a great place to come hang out and drink a few beers. I have not found enough chill spots in LA yet but this is definitely one of them.
The bread they use for their sandwiches are NICE.
Great decor of UCLA alumni greats and upgraded televisions make for a nice atmosphere to drink in.
I had the Thanksgiving Sandwich here for lunch -- Turkey, Stuffing, and Cranberry Sauce. The sandwich was darn good, but the cranberry sauce can be overwhelming for those of you who don't like fruit in your food. I could eat it for days, Mad monies
This is a great lunch spot.
The big winner here is the bread, but the staff puts together a mean sandwich. Don't feel like bread? Have a salad- they're really delicious here, too- and very generous with the meat!
Sepi's just went through a face lift and it looks great! I'm excited to dine in the new digs soon!
Two words: PINT NIGHT
Come here Tuesday nights and play anchorman with our huge group in the back. Can't go wrong with cheap pints and pitchers, with workers who don't care that we leave the place a mess afterward.
I haven't tried the subs here, but who needs subs when you got gallons of beer?
Back in the day, everything (particularly the bread) was much bigger and better and they didn't bother to carefully weigh out the meat. Â But at least they've always had beer specials. Â They use too much oil in their oil/vinegar mix now.
Update - last time I went they no longer had their early evening special where you can get a large sub and a pitcher of beer for close to $20. Â I turned around and walked out and went to IN-N-OUT instead. Â This almost puts this review down to 3 stars.
Still this place is pretty good I guess. Â I still have to try some other stuff to see exactly how this place is doing nowadays. Â It used to be the bomb. Â But I wonder how far the high have fallen...
This place has great subs. Â The best I have ever had. Â Their bread is to die for. Â I had the other day with my finace 2 - turkey clubs. Â amazing!
They had cruncy bacon and avocado and oh may god.  Good prices get the large it is worth it.  Took these two sandwiches to go and it  was remarkable.  I own North End Pizzeria in Burbank, CA  and I was impressed.
Keep up the great work!
My sister who went to UCLA said that they have great happy hour but I cannot attest to it.
Do not. Â I repeat. Â Do not. Â Do not. Â Do not. Â Do not get the pastrami sandwich.
It was the worst pastrami sandwich I've had, and I am (a) not picky, and (b) pastrami always tastes pretty much the same - more or less - anywhere you go.
Not at Sepi's.
It was sooooo salty. Â Sooooo greasy. Â Sooooo just.. soooooo everything not good. Â
I felt gross afterward, and I probably aromatically harassed everyone in my class that night. Â
The reason for two stars instead of one, is that the service is friendly. Â The man who took my order, made my sandwich, and rang up my order.. Â was very nice - and he just needs to take the pastrami off of the menu so that nobody has to ever correlate his shop to the yucky pastrami experience.
The place itself is kinda cool.. small... but it's a long shop. Â It's right next to the UCLA campus, which makes it a convenient stop (if your tastebuds and intestinal lining have not been tortured by the pastrami yet). Â They have TVs, too. Â The price was decent/low, but I won't be coming back until the pastrami memory has been bleached.
Right next door to a Legal Marijuana Store. Â I guess you can come to Sepi's once you have the munchies...
Any ways, I had the Sepi's Club which I actually enjoyed! Â Turkey, bacon, avocado, red onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Â I got the small which was just enough for me. Â I can't imagine how large the large is.
My fiancee had the tuna which she did not enjoy so much. Â She said something about the tuna was not either fresh or tasteful. Â My friend bought the pastrami and turkey which he too did not enjoy all so much as well. Â I guess I'm not picky with my food because 1/3 is not a good ratio.
Prices were decent. Â I uploaded the menu here on Yelp. Â Would I come here again? Â Possibly. Â But Westwood Village has so many other options so probably not any time soon...
Some days lunch requires beer. Â Westwood has lots of places where lunch and beer can go together. Â But most of the places where beer and food can be had at lunch are crowded places. Â Sadly, the longer you wait to get a table the less time you will have to drink beer. Â And this is where Sepi's saves the day.
The sandwiches are perfectly ordinary. Â Good but nothing to write home to mom about. (do you really write to tell your mom what you had for lunch?) Â But service is quick, there are plenty of tables, and did I mention the beer? Â Don't get me wrong, they don't have a fantastic selection of beers or anything but they do have good prices. Â And tables. Â And fast service.
So how many beers can you fit into a 30 minute lunch break anyway?
I've been here a couple times, and I've never been fully impressed. Â The sandwiches are fairly expensive, especially considering that subway is down to $5 for foot-longs. Â I know that they have good beer happy hours, but as I've never been, I can't really comment on that. Â
That said, the 6 inch sub was pretty filling, with a huge bun, lots of chicken, and even more lettuce. Â The dressing was sort of blotched on, and looked overwhelming, but really wasn't. Â
Probably deserves a 3.5, or maybe even a 4, but I don't really feel like coming back ever, so I think 3 will have to do.
Gone are the days of the Tuesday "Quarter Pint Night" where Thad would lovingly pour 50 beers for only $0.25 each! Thad has moved on to bigger and better things but the Tuesday special night still remains...just slightly increased in price. It's now 50-cent pint night (I know, 100% increase in price wtf?) but still the broke college kids come. I reminisce on the days when I would stroll down from the apartments around 7pm in hopes of snagging a table early and being one of the first in line.
Sepi's is like one of those neighborhood joints where everybody knows your name. Back when Thad still ran the show he knew all of us by face and would even hand deliver your food to your table or hook it up with a couple free brewskis here and there. The sandwiches aren't great but they ain't half bad either. I'm a fan of the BBQ Chicken and the wraps and the Veggie Delight. In fact that veggie sandwich plus a couple of Amber Bocks is what I would subsist on back in my "I'm going to starve myself and only eat vegetables and alcohol but only once a day" days.
Get there early for sure because the place gets hot and sweaty and standing room only in no time at all. Sometimes you might see some of the local characters in the crowd such as Old Irate Guy who likes to sit at a table alone drinking a beer and opening a pile of his mail only to get really angry over seemingly nothing, slam his drink down (usually breaking the glass or spilling it everywhere) and then storming out. Another character is that guy you see everywhere around campus who looks just a tad bit too old to be a student, wears glasses and creepily hits on every female in sight. If you actually have a conversation with him he'll tell you that he's a Journalism student at UCLA....uhm, I was always under the impression that UCLA doesn't HAVE a Journalism major....
If you're up for it you can easily join in one of the games of Kings Cup or Quarters going on at pretty much every table on Tuesdays. Spend enough time there and you too can become a pro at flipping a quarter into an empty pint glass! Be wary of the Jenga game that they let you borrow...countless glasses of beer and lord knows what else have been spilled on the games pieces over all these years and the blocks have a serious moldy stench...I'm not entirely sure that they haven't been the cause of some of my upper respiratory sicknesses at one time or another!
Tuesday the first 75 pints are 50 cents and the next ones are 1.25, both are pretty cheap and you can get bud, bud light, or michelob. The problem is with prices like that the first 75 pints sell out pretty quick and sepi's is a pretty small joint so it gets crowded quick but not in the wow this place is crackin so i'm having fun way. Still cheap beer is cheap beer and their subs are decent, i got the westwood sub which is basically turkey bacon and cream cheese.
i know. cream cheese.
What will they think of next?!??!?! it was pretty good though
This place was a staple of college years, and holds sentimental value with me. Â I could never get enough of the cheap beer on Tuesday, and getting the privilege of rubbing elbows with fraternity boys and their gross girls.
Their sandwiches are very good, I have no complaints. Also there's always parking in back.
Usually a lunch patron here:
Food:
Lunch specials rock.  Any sandwich will do and the service is quick.  Yes, beer lunches are good.  Mac Salad is decent.
Decor/Service:
Cool atmosphere.  Got TV's and cool people to BS with.  Watch for the bums outside.  Them foos be always trying to hit you up.
I've finally found it! A place in westwood where you can get a pitcher of beer. Â I was starting to wonder if they out lawed that here.
So yes I'm a fan of the beer and a fan of the pitcher.
I'm also a large fan of the food. YUM! Â I got one of the warm sandwiches and it was tasty. Â I think it has to be the bread.
This place is really great to grab a couple of friends share some beers and food and just hangout for awhile. Â It's nice place to just chill.
Oh and one of the guys that works there is from Michigan.  We bonded  over that fact and he threw in a nice discount on our beers.  Good people. Good Beer. Good food. Great place!
This is definitely a hangout sprawling with college undergrads...but for $1.25 beers on Tuesdays (from 8 pm - 10 pm, I think), my recent UCLA graduate status doesn't give a dang if I'm still hanging out with the college crowd. I reached a new low since the beer's enough to get me buzzed for $2.50. (wait...is that a good thing?)
Like Scott S. said, there's not a wide selection of beers. I opted for the Amber Bock last night and I liked it, but it could be colder. The workers of the place are really nice. I think the owner helped us get a chair from the back, so one of our friends could have a place to sit. It's a really small place but overall, it's a pretty decent place.
