Went to Shadowbox for the first time last Friday and had a blast. The production was Taboo and it was a hoot! Warning: Do not take any uptight friends or relations, they either won't "get" it or will be offended. The audience is forewarned so....
The first vignette was hysterical and a creative twist on a young man's "coming out."
The musical interludes, performed by the house band, worked well with the show, notably The Police song, "Don't Stand So Close to Me."
You will get solicited at every turn: tickets for future shows, supporting their youth program, table-side performances for some occasion or the other, etc and it does get a little tedious considering the food and drink prices are, well, pricey.
Speaking of their food... DON'T DO IT! Â My companion and I ate several items and none were good. The pizza tasted like the grocery store variety with some extra items thrown on top to disguise the fact that that sucker spent a considerable amount of time in a freezer. Didn't help... worst pizza EVER! Beef tenderloin sandwich was chewy and tough to stomach. Our appetizer probably resided in the freezer, next to the pizza, before being microwaved and served.
The wretched food will not keep me from attending again, though. The talent and creativity I saw on stage more than made up for it. I'll just be a little smarter next time and eat before I get there.
Went to see a production of Tabboo (sketch comedy of tabboo topics i.e. death, diversity, coming out, etc.). I had such a blast and was blown away by how talented the performers are! I have to admit I'm not a broadway expert by any means, so I don't have much comparison, but these people can sing and act! Feels more like NYC than Columbus, Ohio.
The show itself was hilarious! One of my favorite sketches was about the politically correct culture we live in and how much advertisers think about diversity awareness in commercials. I wont' say anymore so as not to spoil it. So funny and so true.
I heeded the advice of previous yelpers and did not eat dinner there. The prices are steep for both drinks and food. 2 beers + 2 wines = $23? Okay I guess. I do like that your servers are the performers of the show - definitely a cool twist. Be aware that at intermission you will be hit up by these performers to buy tickets, donate to charity, etc. It can feel a bit like walking through a mall and trying to avoid the phone kiosks. "Hey wanna buy a phone??"
Overall though, I had an amazing time!! Will definitely go again! Â
Also, be prepared to sit at a table with strangers. I have no issue with it at all, especially since everyone there is super friendly, but something to keep in mind if only a group of 2.
Shadowbox Live is a hoot! Â
I was blown away by the talent on display at this intimate theatre in the Brewery District.
My friends and I were treated to a montage of sorts which included, an abundance of comedy, monologues, killer music and dark rock opera. Â These performers excel in many genres, not to mention their incredible sex appeal.
I wasn't wowed by the food, but I was impressed by the entire staff, which coincidentally, are the stage performers. Â
If you want an intimate, broadway type theatre experience, check this place out!
Generally, I like it. I am impressed with the talent at the Shadowbox. I especially like the sketch comedy shows, but the musicals are pretty fantastic as well. It is an enjoyable way to spend an evening- the reservation process is easy and relaxed, easy to park, and everyone (seems) to love working here.
I am not impressed with the food. I know it isn't about the food, but really... skip it. It is expensive and it is not good. Eat before.
Also a warning for those of you that have social anxiety- unless you are in a big party, you will be seated at a table with folks you don't know. I actually like this part, but it isn't for everyone.
I have finally made it to go see a Shadowbox production and I can say that I cannot wait to go see more! I saw their production of Between the Sheets and it was funny, dirty, and wonderful!
The actual production was one of the best live shows I have seen. The costumes were well done for every scene and the acting well played. There are a a few sketches that involved the art of nerd love and the nerds at my table agreed that it was spot on. The house band is extremely well put together and the musicians played as if they were rock stars. My favorite moment, however, was a dance number and I really wish I was a regular so I could know the names of the dancers. It was beautiful and well executed to the tune of In Your Eyes. I am definitely sold to go to their musical production that is coming up soon as well as their new comedy, Taboo.
I unfortunately did not eat any food. The price is high for my pocket but I understand theater and you have to make money in order to be able to pull off amazing shows. The service was awesome though but that is to be expected due to the actors also being the waitstaff. Personally I found that kind of mean, "Here is your dream job along with the job all actors are expected to have." Anyway, Come for the show, not the food. It is a great time and theater experience.
The atmosphere here is very welcoming. The fact that the stars of the show are your waiters and waitresses makes it feel very personal. Their personalities are fun and charismatic. Â I've seen multiple shows and enjoy the deals I am often sent through email. I even received four tickets to see The Scrooge for free which was nice.
My only complaint is the food they offer. I feel it's overpriced and not very tasteful either. I try to avoid eating when coming but the aroma from all the other audience members captivates me. The signature drink called "Freak" is a good deal if you get the pitcher. The taste reminds me of sex on the beach.
Came here to see a production of Chicago, and was floored by how good it was! Â I can honestly say that I enjoyed it more than I did the Broadway production. Â Much of this had to do with the venue: it's hard for me to describe the space, other than to say it's (a) very cool, (b) quite unique, and (c) a lot larger than the unassuming storefront would suggest.
Basically, this is dinner/lunch theater, where the performers are also servers (before and after the show, and during intermission). Â The food is decent, featuring salads, sandwiches, pasta, and pizza at prices that are on the higher end of reasonable.
I'm going to try to make it back here for one of their sketch comedy and rock music (two of my favorite things) shows sometime in the next couple of months...
Ah Shadowbox. How do you review such an eclectic place? Do I review the food? The drinks? The actual shows? I'll try to touch on everything.
Location - In the heart of the recently reviving Brewery District. I far prefer this location to Easton, even though it is more of a hassle to get to. I'll take the glowing neon sign outside and the old brick building over a shopping mall any day.
Food/Drink - Very tasty. Also very pricey. I'd knock off about 1/2 star for the price of the goods here. Every time I come here, I spend about $30 per person in food and drinks. That said, everything tastes really good. I am particularly in love with the nachos, whose portion sizes are enormous. I would love to see some draft beer, and find it strange that they don't have a tap system, especially with their proximity to Worlf of Beer and CBC.
Atmosphere - Very appropriate. I like the decor, the hardwood and bricks, the artwork, everything. I realize that this is a non-profit and they are probably strapped for cash, but I don't care for all of the panhandling at the tables. If you give them your phone number or email, expect to be contacted for tickets, albeit usually at a discount.
The shows - Entertaining! Duh, that is the point right? They have some really talented people working here. The band always nails the covers pretty spot on, and the actors do a good job with their parts. Some of the actual skits and music require a certain taste in humor to appreciate, but I always have a good time.
How have I not reviewed Shadowbox yet?! The (rocky) horror! Shadowbox is a gem of the community. They have amazing actors and musicians and consistently put on great sketch comedy shows with rock and roll music (I believe they used to describe themselves as "like Saturday Night Live, but funny"). The food is solid, especially the pizzas, and any place you can order mixed drinks by the pitcher is OK in my book
What I appreciate about Shadowbox is since they moved to the Brewery District they have been incorporating themselves more and more into the community - doing free shows at the Commons, hosting the arts education program for high school kids, volunteer appreciation shows, and partnering with the BalletMet. It's clear that their vision is to truly be an integral part of Columbus, and I think that's what we need more of to continue the path of growing downtown Columbus and building our communities.
I also like that they've added more shows than just the Friday/Saturday sketch comedy shows and the Sunday musicals. They have stand-up comedians throughout the week, movie/TV viewing ala Mystery Science Theater 3000, and shows that are more dance/music themed on Thursdays. Regarding the Thursday shows -- while I really enjoyed them, they are not the same as 2Cos, which is what several people told me it would be. I still carry a torch for 2Cos!
If you have never been to Shadowbox -- go. You won't regret it. And fill out your comment cards -- you never know when you might get that email for free/cheap tickets!
A group of 4 of us went to see Chicago last night. Â None of us had ever been to Shadowbox so we were kind of confused as to what to expect, but we made reservations, showed up, and were gleaming the entire evening. Â At the door, we were greeting with friendly and theatrical enthusiasm. Â We were seated (no bad seats in the house) and ordered dinner and drinks right inside the theater where we also watched the show. Â Everything came quickly and before the show, even though we arrived closer to 6:15 for a 7:30 show. Â We also had an opportunity to order at intermission. Â The set-up was so neat - and the food was pretty good for theater food, and served by the performers. Â
They take your credit card up front, then charge at the end so it's easy. Â They ask for donations before the show begins, but let me tell you, SO worth a donation based on the great job done... Â
This place is such a great find - we can't wait to go back for Holidaypalooza & Lunchboxes!!
Went to opening night of Chicago and have to say it was absolutely wonderful! The show was perfectly cast, the choreography was excellent and the music and dancing were great. If you have a chance, dinner at the Bistro first puts you there early enough to get great seats, although there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The food in the theater is done well too. My favorites are the Becky Salad, the tenderloin sandwich, and for dessert, fresh baked cookies with carmel or chocolate dipping sauce or a scoop of Jeni's! Shadowbox provides the total package for a great night out on the town!
Review Source:I love this place! I've gone a few times when they were at Easton and once to the new place in the brewery district.
I love the new location! The night we went they had a jazz band playing at the bar and we ordered drinks while we waited to get into the show. I recommend the FREAK!
I love that the actors are also the waiters and the staff collecting your tickets. This makes the service all the more fun!
Each time there I get the buffalo chicken pizza and two pitchers of the freak. :) Great food.
Their shows are full of comedy, sexy-ness, live music....just awesome.
Now they have a shadow box academy that all proceeds go to and the arts, and to me that is awesome as well.
This place is just a great night out, I will be back many more times, I'm especially looking forward to their new burlesque show.
Wonderful place to see a show. You can order food and drinks before the show and during intermission. Your waiter/waitress will probably be one of the actors/actresses in the show. TIP WELL, they really don't make much from the shows and they work so hard. Proceeds do go to helping with Shadowbox Academy students and to the arts. I would suggest going there at least 45 minutes before the show so you can just relax and order food. Ordering during intermission is a bit hectic. I went to watch Reefer Madness here, which is a hilarious show. Ohio State students get a crazy discount at Shadowbox that most don't take advantage of ($5 for a show!!!). Also, this can be amazing place for a date! World of Beer and Claddagh are both next door if you want to eat somewhere else before the show, or hang out after the show.
Review Source:Shadowbox is a great place. I began attending their shows back in 2010 at the Newport location. I was going to college in the area, so it made more sense than driving back home to Columbus to see the Easton cast.
Now that I'm back in Columbus for the foreseeable future, I see pretty much every show they have put on. It is always a blast. Not only is the comedic and musical content superb, but the entire atmosphere is wonderful as well. Seating you with complete strangers could seem weird, but I always have a great time with my tablemates.
The food and drink are great and the servers are good. Like any place you have a couple people here and there who aren't running at 100%, but unlike another other place, the management is able and willing to resolve any issues. It's clear they want your business and will do the best they can to make sure you come back. Awesome!
Words can't even describe this experience. Â We took a chance on a Thursday night show when we got into Columbus, and ended up doing the Friday afternoon lunchbox 45 minute show AND the Sunday night show - that's how much we enjoyed this venue. Â Top notch - great acrostics, pitch perfect casting, some fantastic costuming and choreography make this a jewel in the whole state of Ohio I think. Â Easily the equal of many many pieces we've seen off Broadway. Â Just astonishing. Â
The actors do double duty as the waitstaff, and they are EXTREMELY attentive. Â They seemed dumbfounded when you don't want anything to eat or drink, or don't want to donate, but being actors they do recover. Â :) Â Just be aware they do push food and drink and donations.
As a long time Shadowbox patron I cannot give shadowbox anything less than 5 stars. Â I would give them twenty stars, two thumbs up, a bottle of champagne, and a golden statue of David Whitehouse in his underwear if I could. Â I LOVE this place!
Shadowbox promises rock and roll and boy do they deliver. Â With singers who can belt out some extremely difficult songs, amazing vocal ranges, an unbeatable band (BillWho?), Shadowbox is an orgasm for your ears. Â
Shadowbox also plays host to an amazing house of actors and actresses. Â These people have comic timing down to a T. The sketches and comic bits are generally well recieved, do not care about PC, and are always preformed by energetic individuals. Â Kudos to S.C.R.A.W.L!!!!! Â p.s. please get rid of Shannons Movie Reviews...its the only sketch I hate...and boy do I hate it
The food is great, I usually walk out with a hefty bill, but thats due to my own gluttony. The nachos are huge, the bbq chicken is wonderful, and the cheesy bread is tops. Â Does anyone know where they buy their salsa from, or if they make it there? I would love to buy some and take it home!!!!! The classic knock-you-on-your-ass drink there is called The Freak, its worth a drink if not a pitcher ;)
Went to shadow box for the first time over the weekend. It was an enjoyable experience--comedy sketches mixed with great music in between the sketches. The band was amazing and the actors were great. The only complaints I have are when being waited on they talk so loudly at you and waiting to get into the show was very crowded.
Review Source:Shadow Box is a must for those who want to go out with friends and want more than just a run of the mill movie.
Lets be honest though, who doesn't like live entertainment?
The new location is wonderful, and accommodates for larger crowds, which is a plus. The interior vibe is industrial and raw, but still remains new and shiny.
I've had some laughs here, but I just can't bring myself to give it five stars, because I found the material to be extremely dated, and many times I found myself looking at my watch during some of the musical acts.
I often leave feeling as if I've watched a really long episode of Friends, or some other 90's sitcom, but I don't feel refreshed, but that could just be the Freak speaking in my stomach.
By the way, yes, the Freak is awesome. Pricey, but awesome.
The food is pricey, but still edible.
If I had one recommendation for this place it would be to PLEASE UPDATE your skits and musical numbers.
You'll have a few laughs if you come here, and it should be a good time for all. No need to be frightened away by my review. I've just been here a couple times in the last year, and it's like watching 90's sitcoms on syndication... eventually it gets old.
I have gone back and forth between giving them three stars and four stars, but because I have been a Shadowbox regular for 10 years now, I have decided to give them four, something obviously keeps bringing me back. I have been a regular of Shadowbox since 2002 primarily at their Newport location and have gone consistently several times a year, frequenting both their Newport location and their Columbus location for the musicals. Now, that being said, while I am a fan of Shadowbox, I consistently become less impressed over the years, maybe it's the skits they keep recycling, the changes of cast and the increase in ticket prices (thankfully, I have never and will never pay full price), of course you can easily combat the expensive prices by holding out for discounted tickets, which they are very generous at offering. Â My husband and I went to their new location in the brewery district in Columbus to see Rocky Horror Picture Show (so good that we have seen it everytime they perform, I believe a total of 3 times). This was our first time at the new location and while it was a great new space, it was evident that they still had several kinks to work out. We arrived early to share a light appetizer for lunch in the Backstage Bistro before the show, this was the mistake we made. I am not sure what the hold up was, but we waited for over an hour for our appetizer, the Backstage Crostini...come on people, it's toasted bread, it doesn't take that long...we had already paid as well as our waitress thought she could get us out quicker by giving us our check while we were still waiting on the food. They ended up calling our number to be seated for the show before we ever got our food so they had to bring it to us in the theatre. Needless to say, we were not too happy about this, however, Stacie, the general manager was informed by our waitress what had happened and she made up for this mistake by offering us free tickets to come back, which was nice. Many places don't care if they screw up, I do believe that Shadowbox legitimately wants their patrons to have a nice time and will rectify a mistake so I don't fault them too much for our less than stellar experience. However, it did teach us that we won't eat the Backstage Bistro anymore, we'll just eat in the theatre off their regular menu, which we both enjoy very much (love their Nachos!) Additionally, although I believe the cast and musicians are very talented, I can't help but become less and less impressed with the shows, again, I just feel they recycle much of the same material and that's not worth the two hour drive to me anymore so we now only go for the musicals, which they always do a fabulous job! To sum it all up, if you haven't been, it's definitely a place to check out and also a place to probably return (particularly if you get discount tickets), however, if you have seen one show per season, I'd say if's enough, maybe just see their Best Of show and definitely see their musicals.
Review Source:Alright maybe I'm the sore thumb here. I'm sorry! But I came here for a work outing and watched the Holiday Lunchbox- it's a shorter version of the show for a lunchtime crowd.
Maybe it was the holiday-ness or maybe it was the fact that we weren't allowed to drink because it was a company sanctioned event, but I was just not all that impressed. The performers were WAY over the top- so much so that I am actually thanking my parents for not allowing me to get that theater degree I so desperately begged their approval for. Maybe again this would be more fun if I had been drinking and if it were the complete show... but alas for a lunchtime crowd it was a bit much. I was also not a big fan of the person coming around and pandering for donations- we already paid quite a bit for a ticket- so I just thought this seemed a little tacky.
Food was ok. Not fantastic, but not bad. We had a lunch buffet of sorts with pizzas, subs, salad and wings. Not sure how the menu food would be if we actually ordered.
The performance was... interesting. Kudos for the Jym Gonahl cameo and the Southpark reference to "A lonely Jew on Christmas." I also enjoyed the middle school band/choir performance skit. The rest of the skits were... just not very funny. I'm sorry! I really wanted to love this... but  it just left something to be desired.
Maybe the full performances are a lot better and funnier? I did love the space and the overall idea so I bet this place has real potential for some good shows. I don't doubt that sketch comedy is crazy tough to pull off... I know I couldn't.
We stopped in to see the Rocky Horror Picture show with some friends last month. We'd been to the other Shadowbox location, but what they have here is what they need. Kitchen off to the side and plenty of room for their guests. Parking was closeby as they have a lot beside the building. The food was ok, but be careful if you ask for more spinach dip, they'll be sure to charge you extra for it when you least expect it. Pretty nice place. We're going back for the Scrooge show within the next month.
Review Source:YAY! They finally got a  new, larger location which means more fun without having to knock ten people over when you try to move your arm! (This may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but the old place was packed tight)
I have been a seasoned veteran of Shadowbox and every time I go it is just as entertaining as the last! Â You have a great group of talented people, and they even take the time to remember you when you come in! (Or at least I like to think they do).
Your waiters are the actors, and they do just that. Entertain you the entire night in a casual and semi-professional manner! :)
Plus it is not one of those, "oh I will grab a beer and watch some poorly practiced comedy skits." These people can belt out tunes, make you laugh till your side hurts, plus the best part of the night... the food.
Their menu is kicka** (sorry, family friendly review). The food is delicious, especially since it is a lot more then you would expect at a large scale theater place like this. We are talking unique, amazing pizzas to bacon covered water chestnuts.
I recently went to the Condom Couture Fashion Show which was hosted here and at the last minute two of the actors had to step up to host it. They did a terrific job of not only performing sets in between the show, but they also had a great banter and chemistry on stage with the designers and models! Plus the rest of the cast did a great job of making sure I never went hungry or thirsty!
Truly an amazing place for a date, solo night, friends, birthday party, bachelor/bachlorette party, bar mitzvah... yeah you get the picture!
I had often seen Shadowbox in Easton but never really thought twice about going to one ever. I am now regretting that decision. The acting and comedy was surprisingly well produced and very hilarious. The band they have (Billwho?) was also superb, playing lots of classic rock hits from Van Halen to to Boston. The food menu wasn't too extensive but it had alot to choose from. I would have liked to see more local brews on the beer menu since they are in the brewery district. My group of friends and I had such a great time, can't wait to go back.
Review Source:If I could give them 10 stars...I totally would.
So many things to say about this place! Â I'm going to give up on forming coherent sentences and just gush bullet point style.
- Â Witty, bawdy, funny, and ever so delightfully NON-PC
- Â Top notch acting/singing/dancing/musicianship/scripting
- Â New space is AMAZING! Â It feels more like a caberet with raised seating as you go back.
- Â TWO...count them TWO drum sets. Â I'm in heaven. Â (a Dreds/Beast sammich? Â I digress)
- Â JT or "Chops" (as he's now identifying). Â I love this man, and wish to subscribe to his newsletter. Â He's hot AND talented.
- Â THE FREAK. Â This drink is a sneaky git. Â All of a sudden....you're drunk.
- Â The Food. Â I always get the tenderloin sandwich. Â (tenderloin, horseradish sauce, onion crisps....delish.) Â I've had the popcorn, which is good and fresh. Â Friends have sampled the nachos, the chicken sandwich, and the pepperoni sub thing...all with rave reviews.
- Â The new *store* for swag!
Specific to this show (opening night of Legacy): Â Britney Spears and Antonio Banderas (independently) singing to people in the crowd.
My complaints/wishlist:
- Â smaller volunteers and/or tables farther apart. Â It never fails, someone orders food near the cut off, and it's delivered during the show, in the dark, by the largest volunteer on staff, who can't find where they are supposed go...and lingers.right.in.front.of.me.
-  JT's phone number  (I kid! I kid!  Sorta.)
- Â easier way to identify sizing in the swag store. Â I had to dig through a basket of rolled up shirts, and still never found my size. Â Also, get some stuff for big girls with 'big girls'!
P.S. Â Virgin Mary...I remembered! Â :)
I bring visitors and friends to The Box when ever possible!
We come here do often, the performers know us!
You'll be treated to an evening of music and sketch comedy. Every show is different but our favorites are the '' Best of '', Halloween and Christmas shows.
The perrformers are also your chef, bartender and waiters/waitresses. Â Everyone is energetic and so much fun! Â Just go with the flow and have a good time!
They are moving to the Brewery District in 2011 and I expect big things!
This place is very bad. Â
The food is bar food and very bad very bad bar food at that. Â I had some pizza and wings, they both tasted as if they had been frozen at one time.
The people are annoying and not funny or talented. Â At the beginning they go around while you are eating and yell about how many show "virgins" are in the audience. Â During the performance, most of the characters are based off of SNL characters, there is no originality. Â
The music sound horrible. Â The electronic drums and bass guitar have no depth, the voices are reverbed to hide the horrible singing, the guitars are heavily distorted through a crappy Line 6 amplifier.
I think I laughed once, I was shocked the people around me were having a good time. Â I guess most people don't know that there are much better shows elsewhere.
This place is depressing. Â Luckily I got in for free and didn't have to pay for the crap food.
If you're looking for a night of hilarious comedy and top notch rock and roll music, look no further. Â The performers at Shadowbox are very passionate about their art, and it shows in each and every show. Â The sound is mixed very well (even if I greatly dislike the sound of an electronic drum kit), so there is no bad seat in the house, sound wise.
The food is a bit expensive, and nothing to write home about, but the pitchers of Freak are a MUST (if you're into that sort of thing). Â Shadowbox is a non-profit organization, so they take plenty of opportunities to sell you various things like raffle tickets, extra drinks, and merchandise. Â
The entire staff is always lively, talkative, and each person is encouraged to play up their own personalities. Â I love the fact that each person is able to make me laugh or smile in very different ways. Â I can't say enough about the amazing folks who make Shadowbox such a huge success.
A fun time, but not worth the full ticket price of $30. Luckily, we got discount tickets at $5 each, and it was definitely worth at least $5. The performers were very energetic and the skits and music was entertaining but not really memorable for me. Reminded me of a college extracurricular student production. It's worth checking out at least once, but I probably won't be back unless I get another fantastic discount.
The food did not look very good, but were quite pricy. I ordered one  mixed drink, and paid about $10. I would not recommend eating dinner here, and it would probably be a better deal to go to one of the nearby Easton bars for drinks before coming here. But, all in all, a fun time!!
I have never had anything less than a fantastic time at Shadowbox. From the moment you walk in, the cast - who, incidentally, also serve as the waiters and merch stand workers - are so full of energy that you can't help but to catch it.
Most of their shows are a mix of sketch comedy (very hit or miss sketches) and a live cover band. My FAVORITE Shadowbox show, though, was an original musical they wrote parodying the life and death of Anna Nicole Smith, called "Tabloid: The Musical." Absolutely fantastic.
Tickets are $30 for adults (eek) and $20 for students and seniors. Add in food and drinks and you're looking at a pretty costly night, but I assure you that you'll have a blast. Oh, and if you're boozin', order a pitcher of "Freak." It's delicious and will mess your whole table up :)
Tip: If you fill out the review card on your table and write something along the lines of "I hope I can come back soon" you'll almost ALWAYS get a call for discount tickets. I know at least 10 people who have done this, including moi :)
This is one of those places that is way too attended and never attended enough all at the same time. It's the perfect environment for comedy, and is a delightful way to spend an evening.
It's actually moving, which is REALLY exciting, because its current location is direly lacking. I mean... easton is not the place for something like this. It definitely keeps me from going as much as id like to.The biggest catch to the place is that its quite expensive, but you have to trust me when I say that its worth it. It's one of those nights that you won't forget.
Shadowbox Cabaret is one of my all-time favorite places to go out in Columbus. Â Shadowbox is, as they call themselves, a "sketch comedy & rock and roll club". Â Basically, combine great original sketch comedy, rock and roll music covered by an EXCELLENT house band, plus food and booze, and you get Shadowbox!
The main show rotates through around 5 themes each year, running for 2-3 months each. Â Summers are the "Best of" show, containing all the best comedy sketches & songs from the previous year's worth of shows. Â The end of the year (late November through December and sometimes VERY early January) is Holiday Hoopla, their holiday-themed show, one of their busiest, most loved, and longest running. Â Around those are various other themes, usually a Halloween-themed show in the fall, a sex-themed show at the beginning of the year, and others. Â
In addition to the regular show, Shadowbox also runs a 45-minute lunchtime show on Fridays called, naturally, the Lunchbox. Â It's a great way to blow off work with a long lunch and a few drinks while at the same time taking in a nice sampling of some of the great things Shadowbox has to offer.
But there's MORE! Â Recently Shadowbox has "returned to their roots" (and presumably given up any hope of free time) by running performances of musicals on Sundays (two performances, a matine and an evening show). Â So far they've done great performances of The Who's Tommy, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Cabaret, and next up is the return of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Â
While enjoying the show, you can also partake of Shadowbox's full bar and menu of food. Â Longtime Shadowbox staples of nachos (piled high with cheese, onions, black olives and - if you wish - jalapeos), pizza, and three-cheese bread, plus over the past couple years the menu has expanded significantly to offer a few great salad options, some good sandwiches (try the beef tenderloin - it's phenomenal!), and more.
Shadowbox is a GREAT time. Â Support local theater & music, and give this place a try. Â The staff is great, the shows are great. Â You won't be disappointed!
