Amazing value

Fast service even with a crazy lunch rush. Cheap prices for sushi and always tastes fresh. May be used for lunch date (Don't make her stand in that long line, have her sit outside because you're a gentleman or to guarantee a seat). Miso soup is the only thing I find could be better. Not a big experimenter at this place so my recommendations are limited. JB roll and the spicy tuna roll is what I usually order.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The sushi is OK and the prices are relatively cheap, but the customer service is a complete zero. It's unbelievable that this place is called a take out place, but if you call ahead for lunch and walk in with your cash, they still expect you to wait in line for half an hour while your sushi warms up as it sits on the counter. Also, parking is a nightmare during lunch hours, so add extra time to engage in vulture-like circling.

Last week I called ahead and ordered a #9 vegetable sushi combo and two pieces of inari tofu sushi. I've eaten here several times and the sushi is good enough for the price. Don't expect any miracles, but it's good enough. They took my name and my sushi would be ready in 10 minutes.

Ten minutes later I'm in the restaurant and the line is about 20 people long. I walk to the cash register with my cash in hand and tell them I have a take out order and that I called ahead. They pick up my order, which is already bagged up and sitting on the back counter. They ask me if I've been waiting in line. I tell them no, I called ahead, and I extend my hand with the cash in my hand. The manager tells me, "Oh, you have to wait in line, there's a lot of people in line." I told them that I was on a limited lunch break and couldn't wait for half an hour plus to make it to the front of the line. (While my sushi gets warm on the counter, mind you.) They tell me, "OK, sorry." They will not accept my cash and will not pass my sushi across the counter.

I later call to talk to the manager. I explain the problem. She says, "Oh, we've been thinking about having a call ahead line." I explained that that didn't help me today and that I had no lunch thanks to them because they wouldn't hand my sushi across the counter. I asked her what she would do to make this right. Her answer, "Nothing."

Nothing. That sums up what's good about this restaurant. They ended up throwing out my food. If you want to circle for parking, wait in a long line to get just OK sushi that's warm for sitting out so long and deal with a staff that won't pass you your food, then go here. If you want good food for the price and a staff that cares, there are plenty of better sushi joints in Fort Lauderdale.

Somebody let me know if they ever institute a call ahead line. Although that warm and therefore slightly stinky sushi on the counter makes me want to hold my breath, I know better than to hold my breath for good service here.

Great sushi at great prices and quick service. You can be in and out of this place within 7 minutes. Highly recommended if you are in a hurry - but not so much if you're looking to dine in somewhere.

What a great find!

This tiny shop next to CVS is a decent find. Cheap sushi, super nice staff, Hearty red miso style soup and fast service. It is the perfect lunch spot of dinner to go spot. Don't eat in - its too rushed and small. Take your sushi and do what i did, have sushi time at one of the nearby parks.

Great prices for sushi and an awesome lunch special deal. The "new times" sushi is a must try.

This tiny, cramped spot in a strip mall is always packed, and the only reason I can come up with is that there are no other reasonably priced sushi joints near downtown. The place is always hot, but there are only three small tables inside anyway (a few more outside). The New Times roll is great, but not quite worth the price. (Tokyo Sushi at 1538 E Commercial Blvd is a much better value.)

My main complaint is that about 75% of the time, I wait for over 20 minutes for my sushi. The last two times I've been to Sushi 1, people who ordered after me received their orders before me. Both times, I had to remind them that I had ordered. If I hadn't piped up, I never would have received my food. By the time I got my food, I was sweating my butt off in their hot little store. I could have spent that half hour wait driving to Oakland Park for better, cheaper sushi.

The sushi is good, but it's all about 20% more than you'll pay at Tokyo in Oakland Park. I don't ask for a lot in a sushi joint: Good sushi (which they do have), good prices (which they do not), and good service (DEFINITELY not here).

We had a fast lunch here when we just arrived Ft Lauderdale. The place is small but the food tastes really good! It's really the Japanese sushi! And the price is cheap!

Really love the new times roll in dynamite roll great service great stuff we really like them. They work hard, the prices are very reasonable and the sushi is def. a good value for what you got. The neighborhood staple for sure, I have come here for at least 5 years.

You're hungry and here's what you need to know right now:

Food - tasty: very fresh, spicy tuna had zero fishiness, shrimp temp roll was tasty not heavy, tamago great

Price - Cheap: a special roll, some nigiri & a drink for around $10-12!

Speed - Fast: took 5min to make, but it's tiny so gets real busy lunch/dinner. 3x 3chair tables inside & out, so keep it small or take out! Grab a Kirin while you wait...

I saw my good friend Wing L. gave a 5 star for Sushi One. He really do love the place, but gave me a warning to order only the rolls, nothing else. I'm not good with warnings, so I forgot about it as I drove there at lunch.

As I arrive at the location on the yelp map, the plaza is packed with cars and hard to find parking. Equally hard to find is their store. I realized I drove pass it twice when I found their small and nondescript sign. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…

Upon entering, I was surprised to see how small and narrow it is. http://www.yelp.com/biz_… There is a long line formed all the way to the entrance, and I'm there thinking it is going to be a very long wait. Turns out the line by the door are customers who are waiting to pick up their order. In order for me to order, I have to go to the cashier all the way in the back.

At the cashier's counter, there are several menus on the counter for you to study. As I looking through the menu, I noticed all the staffs are speaking Japanese, great sign, and the cashier girl is cute! *FAILED to take a picture of her*

Here is a list of items I ordered

Clam, Hamachi, Scallop nigiri. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…

For the clam, I was thinking along the line of http://www.foodnut.com/i… , but disappointed to find it's the type I often eat at sushi buffets. However I never know this clam can be soft and tender. Make me realize all the ones I've ate before were hard and rubbery.

Hamachi is fatty, sweet, melt in your mouth good. It's rivals toro offered in many avg Japanese restaurants.

Scallop - sweet, juicy, soft, tender. It's like eating mush mellow. Not a hint of fishy taste.

But all the good sushi were ruined by the rice. It had such a strong starchy taste that overwhelmed the flavor of the sushi. It's a taste you would get if you didnt wash the rice before you cook them.

Sukiyaki Bento. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
$5.95, came with all your see in the pic and a miso soup. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…

It's a huge portion for the price. The sukiyaki taste is spot on, but the beef are not thinly sliced, way too thick. And several pieces are kinda tough. The rice also has that starchy taste as the nigiri and they give you soo much of it. By the time I finished all the sides and beef, I still have half of the rice left. *toss* Miso soup is also a bit blend, I think it's because they used white miso.

Oh well, should of listened to Wing L. The Wise and ordered the rolls. Sigh.

I'll keep this short. I just reviewed Energy Kitchen which opened last week in the same plaza and am feeling the need to say something nice about a good restaurant. Sushi One is it!

I've only been here once for lunch, but I will be back (did I mention how much I disliked Energy Kitchen?). The service was friendly, the sushi rolls were good and the prices are very reasonable. For starters there are many rolls in the sub-$4 range. You have the option of eating in or taking it to go. It's not the best I've had (moved here from NYC so take that into consideration) but it's solid and when you want something good for lunch, definitely consider Sushi One.

Went with a friend who lives across the street and had been many times. Very busy at noon but staff handled it well. I am quite certain that Japaneese folks were behind the sushi bar. In Boca a Japaneese chef is rare. Most are from Thailand or Laos.
We shared three rolls which were terrific. Very fresh and not skimpy on the fish. Fairly priced.
Limited seating. Would return.

This place rocks! I've been ordering from Sushi One for two years now and the food is always fresh and delicious. Plus, everything is reasonably priced which is a real find in Ft. Lauderdale since sushi is really expensive here. I recommend the clear soup over the miso, the salmon teriyaki bento box, and pretty much any of the rolls. The seaweed salad is really tasty, but the portion is small.

I can't give this place 5 stars because their menu is not as large as others in the area. There are also times when you really have to wait for your food. I recommend always calling your order in ahead of time. You'll still have to wait on line just to pay, but by the time you get to the front your order will be ready. FYI, they are only open until 8pm and are closed Sundays.

If you don't feel like cooking tonight and want some cheap sushi, Sushi One is the way to go!

Disgusting if I could give negative stars I would. This so called sushi restaurant doesn't even deserve one star. I ate here once and it was so terrible I am not at all willing to give it a second try.

I take it none of the reviewers who like this place have ever had quality sushi.

There's a reason this place is dirt cheap and its because it tastes like dirt.

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. I guess if you know nothing about quality food you should eat here and you'll like it just like all the other crazy people that gave this place good ratings.

If you decide not to heed my warning then best of luck to you.

Ick Ick Ick. Try sushi rock on las olas or even better amura in downtown Orlando.

I would probably give this 3.5 stars if allowed. It was all "good", but nothing was great. The prices are VERY GOOD, but the wait in line is a bit confusing. Even if you call in your order you still have to wait for everyone else to SLOWLY order and pay. It is single file and they tell you when you get out of line. Somehow we got an incorrect role in our order that had canned tuna and mayo on the top. Not Yummy. Skip that one.

For better sushi that is about the same price go to the Japanese Market on Sunrise where they are very friendly, never a wait and the Sushi is delicious.

Wow, as long as this place has been here and I didn't know about it- unbelievable!!! The food was really fresh, the service was great. We went there Saturday night to check the place out (referred by a friend), and the line was constant! I couldn't believe how great the prices were, I half expected to get small pieces of sushi but was I surprised. Well portioned pieces served with plenty of wasabi and ginger. They have a few table inside and out, but not a lot, mostly pick-up. After your order, they call your name as the orders are placed. This will be my new sushi place to hang out at.

I am a super lucky person to work within two-minute walking distance of Sushi One Take Out. The service, quality, and prices are unbeatable. I only give it four stars instead of five because when you pick up your order, you have to wait in the same line as people who are in the store ordering. That said, it's worth it.

While on that topic, I'd recommend calling ahead to place your order before heading over there to pick it up. They always quote me about ten minutes on the phone and it's always been accurate. Not calling means waiting in line to place the order and then waiting in the store for it to be prepared.

My lunch of miso soup and a shrimp tempura roll cost less than $5 total. It's insane - in a good way. The staff is very friendly and allowed me to customize my roll (add avocado, no masago, add sesame seeds). The vegetable roll, my other sushi staple, was fantastic as well - and just $3.50!

One final note -- this is not a place where you can sit and eat. They have, maybe, four tables and I've never seen one available. But that's why it's called Sushi One TAKEOUT. ;)

GO TRY IT TODAY!

When i used to work in S. FL (Miami or WPB), I always prayed that I can work in the Ft. Lauderdale office. It wasn't that the FTL location was particularly better; it was because Sushi One Take Out was there!

Small, cozy, and simple. Menu is limited but that's how good sushi should be. No funky rolls, No region rolls, none of that fancy fusion crap (what the hell is a Miami / South beach roll?) I really enjoy their dynamite roll and their spicy tuna is really good.

Seating is limited so I'd recommend you call in ahead and pick it up. During lunch, it gets so busy so best to call ahead.

It's owned by Japanese people so bonus points for authenticity! Did I mention this place is cheap? i can get 2 - 3 rolls for less than $20!

If you're in the area, give this place a try. Quick, cheap, fresh sushi. Love it.

Sushi One is a quick cheap place to grab some sushi. That being said, you get what you pay for. The rolls are made very simply but they are still good. I've eaten there and gotten takeout but if you take out it's definitely a good idea to call ahead. They close pretty early so its better to go for lunch.

Note: they do not have brown rice available.

Summary: simple, quick, easy, cheap sushi :)

Can't beat the value.

This is an anomaly of a sushi place. It's fresh, tasty, and incredibly cheap. Small place with 4 tables (2 inside and 2 outside), most people do takeout. This place can get packed so you're best bet is to call ahead.

Closes at 8 and on Sunday so get your calls in early!

Best Sushi take out place in Fort Lauderdale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best prices, great sushi and always fresh. The long lines during lunch time will speak for itself. To avoid the lunch crowd you must arrive by 11:45am latest or look for the menu online and call in your order. But same rule applies for P/U you must be there before noon time otherwise you wait in line too. No cutting in line please :)
(can recommend: the New Times Roll, Futo Maki Roll & Bonzai Roll)

dirt cheap and very good sushi, get there before 12:05 other wise the line goes out the door. I was blind-sided by the sushi board menu and they have lots of other things that looked very good. Best sushi for its price in the fort lauderdale area...

I have this place on speed dial. The BEST and BEST VALUE you will find. Tip: Order by phone and have your sushi waiting when you get there, even if you eat in. During lunchtime, you're gonna wait.

Simple, modest (this is a storefront with three tables, people, not Nobu). Other than the sushi dishes try the amazing vegetable udon noodle soup.

Love Sushi One! When I worked in the area, I would get lunch from here whenever possible. The prices are super cheap and the food is good.
Like another review said, the only con is that there aren't a lot of tables to sit at.
But who cares? Get it to go!

Ohhhh.
Emmm.
Geeee.

I love sushi and I love this place. It is the best, freshest, cheapest sushi I've ever had the pleasure of eating.

Okay, so you might be thinking with your eyebrow quizzically raised.. "Cheap sushi? That's fresh? Jessi... you crazy. That's impossible! That's mythical! That's like saying I own a pet unicorn!" Well friend, get on your unicorn and ride on to Sushi One Take Out because they make it happen.

This place has the best prices for sushi I've ever seen anywhere.. and the fact that it's fresh is like heaven. It makes it well worth the 45 min drive for me. In fact, I seriously considered looking up apartments to move closer to this place. No joke.

Two tiny, slight, itty-bitty cons are that there are only a few tables to eat here and it is a very small, claustrophobia-ish space, but I suppose that's how they keep costs low so I'd like them to never change. Ever. Never, ever, never change please. If they did I'd cry and a little piece of me would probably die.

Oh, how I love this place... but I guess that was pretty obvious.

Don't let the strip mall location fool you, or that it is tiny and really has no seating to speak of unless it's just two or three of you, this place has great sushi, very fresh ingredients, a nice variety, fabulous tuna nigiri, and very reasonable prices. Don't forget some edamame.

We found Sushi One on the Internet and went back the next night, too. I agree calling in a pickup order is the way to go but we needed a menu first.

If you are in Fort Lauderdale and want to eat sushi take out where the locals do, you must try Sushi One!

The sushi is fresh and fast! I enjoy the lunch specials as well (great value), which usually offer steamed veggies, rice, soup, salad and a choice of featured protiens. They have a great seaweed salad and I really enjoy their sushi roll combos, which allow you to have a little bit of different rolls. The sushi is made to order in front of you. I would not want to eat here, unless it was a quick meal on the go because there isnt much of a dining ambience (hence sushi1 TAKE OUT). But if you must- there is seating/parking available.

Non-snapper nigiri sushi - 3.5 stars
Snapper nigiri sushi - 4.5 stars
How cute the mom and pop are - 5 stars

I had a sushi craving the other week and did a quick search to see if there was any sushi takeout places. I was actually surprised that there was such a place reviewed already in Ft. Lauderdale. Score.

I got there right after work (about 6:15ish) and that was the perfect time. As soon as I ordered, several other people came in to place their orders for takeaway. The menu consists of sushi, bento boxes, and udon noodle soups; you can order the sushi a la carte or in various numbered combinations for a slight discount.

I focused on the nigiri sushi and went a la carte: two snapper, two conch ($0.90/pc), two tuna, two salmon ($1.10/pc), and two hamachi ($1.20/pc). Total rock bottom prices. The lady who took the orders and worked the cash register was the sweetest Japanese grandma, too. Her husband (I presume) and a young Japanese guy prepared all the sushi with a quickness, all while talking amongst themselves cheerfully in Japanese.

I couldn't resist opening the box while stuck at a stoplight on the drive home. Although placed in a styrofoam container, it was still total food porn [I've uploaded a photo of my takeout meal to this listing.]

The verdict? The fish was pretty good, but not quite "buttery"/melt-in-your-mouth. That is, except for the snapper. Oh my god, that should have been the most expensive nigiri on the menu. It was so moist, buttery, and decadent. Makes sense, though -- with sushi, go with what's local and you'll get the freshest quality. That's not to say that the rest of the sushi wasn't fresh, because it was. It's just that the quality of the snapper that day was good enough to be served in a high-end sushi establishment. I also really liked their conch -- they put large strips of it on the nigiri, and it was pleasantly crunchy.

Overall, though, terrific quality for a takeout joint with unbeatable prices. I'll definitely stop by here whenever I have that craving again. Plus, I want to try their soft shell crab roll (only $5.85 for the entire thing!).

The awesomely fresh fish at Sushi One is not something you'd guess if you were to judge this tiny strip mall spot on looks alone. From the outside it appears wholly unremarkable. The inside isn't any more special design-wise but one taste of the conch and cucumber salad or the tuna carpaccio reminds you of why you're really here: the fish!

Arrive at 11:30 and you'll avoid the crowds and potentially even snag a table. By 12:00 the line's out the door and you realize quickly that you've stumbled upon something very special.

Sushi One is a great stop one the way to or from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport. I'm definitely snagging a snack here for the plane ride home!

If you like hole in the walls with the food to go with it this is the place to go. I've been to a lot of sushi places and have ate some really expensive items but this little ma and pa joint has really cheap sushi and the quality is AWESOME! There is one sushi bar and the restaurant holds about 15 people and some dining outside. It's awesome for take out also. I've had most everything there and have to say that the sushi is ideal and so is their beef udon. I can get 2 pieces of tako, 2 pieces of ebi, 2 pieces 2 pieces of salmon and tuna with a roll for about 10 bucks. Give or take. Stop in!
