Shiner Bock on tap. Need I say more? Let's be honest...I didn't go to Taco Macs b/c I craved the food. I'm new to the area and wanted to have my fav beer on tap. Got it! :-)
I had the Nacho's All The Way..they were good...but not the best I've had. My friend had a salad and really enjoyed it. All in all, the place was cool. The service was awesome...the atmosphere was fun...and when I couldn't see the Tv screen well enough to watch my boys play some baseball...the waiter turned the screen for me! I will totally be back!
Really cool sports bar ambiance!
I've tried to like you, TacoMac Decatur. I really have.
I've been there 5 times now, and you have never been able to provide me with food that was anything but "meh". Sure - your beer menu is outstanding, but even then - it shouldn't take 10 minutes to get a cold-one when I'm sitting at the bar. The last time I was there, I ordered a plain-jane burger. Medium.
I was delivered something with the shape, consistency and taste of a 10 year old hockey puck, and cold fries.
Sorry - we're through.
Was with a friend who goes there all the time and loves it. Â Even he admitted it was terrible when we went. Â Slow service, food and drinks/water took forever, ran out of beer and did not tell me, forever to check out. Â Food was not prepared well.
Giving an extra star only because my friend says that was completely out of the norm and the waitress was very apologetic.
Taco nightmare...
Walked in, and immediately got rejected from the bar because the bartender said she "had no seats available". Doesn't she work for tips? Why not allow us to sit at one of the several open high top tables? Or at least attempt to accommodate us and give us an option other than leaving her area of the restaurant?
After our walk of shame back to the host's stand, the host took 15 minutes to seat a party of 2 despite the fact that the restaurant was less than half full.
After being seated, it was clear that our server Alex had no interest in working, because we waited 15 minutes to place drink and food orders. Approximately 10 minutes later we got half of our drink order, a water. Â 10 minutes later we finally got my beer and our chips and salsa, which we had to pay for.
Finally, after being in the restaurant for over an HOUR out food was served.
Bottom line, worst service I've gotten in years from any service based business, and the food was mediocre at best. It's one thing for a place to be slow because it's swamped. That was absolutely not the case with our visit. And if the wait itself wasn't unnerving, trying to avoid touching anything on or around the table because of the extreme stickiness put me over the top. If I hadn't already committed 30 minutes of my life to Taco Mac prior to getting my drink, I would have left.
They get one star for having a respectable drink menu and a friendly host, whose name I can't recall. But I will never go back here or to any Taco Mac anywhere ever again based on my experience. Â We were not the only people upset and confused by the lack of service, the few other tables around us were also annoyed by the extreme waiting.
A disappointing end to another great night out in atlanta.
I usually eat at the Taco Mac on Roswell Road but a friend came from out of town and I thought she deserved a nice Atlanta experience so I brought her to the Ponce location. Â BIG MISTAKE. Â From the moment we walked in, it seems apparent that no one wanted to be working. Â The hostess was slow in seating us. Â Our waitress, Monie, gave very poor service. Â She had to be called to the table to refill our beverages, walked away while we were speaking to her (seriously, that's just utterly rude) and NEVER CLEARED OUR DIRTY PLATES! Â Monie complained that 3 servers didn't show up - OK, what's that got to do with our table? Â I regret even leaving her a tip.
It was a serious disappointment for my out-of-town friend. Â It's disappointing to know that an Atlanta staple can't give basic customer service. Â I won't be returning.
What a let down :-(
I really enjoyed Taco Mac when I moved to Atlanta in 2010. I'm a huge sports guy and loved the combination of American food and tons of beer.
Despite the great beer selection, I have made a point to not return to any Taco Macs over the last 1+ years due to poor service. I don't hold it against places if the service is a little slow on a busy night when they're short staffed on one occasion. That's life. Taco Mac, regardless of the location, always seems to have a tough time getting around to you. The funny thing is, half the time all I really need is a fresh batch of chips and a cold beer once every quarter or so during the game.
I'm not a tough customer but Taco Mac never seems to enjoy my patronage. If you want to wait 30 minutes for a cold beer in a very hot, fresh out of the dishwasher glass, this is the place to be.
Note: If you want good hot wings, go to Twain's down the road. The quality of the meat is much better and the sauce is on a completely different level.
I used to like this Taco Mac, but my last two visits were pretty bad. Last trip, just two of us on a slow Monday night, but it took 5 minutes for a waiter to acknowledge us after we'd been seated. Sensing slow service we went ahead and ordered drinks and food. 25 minutes later our orders arrived. These were not elaborate orders - just 6 wings and a salad. Our waiter was pleasant, but nothing more. With so many other choices in Decatur, we will probably go elsewhere in the future. Sad to see it decline.
Review Source:Taco Mac is a great sports bar. Good wings, fries, and ample selection of beverages. Service was great and they were very attentive to our needs. Overall had a great time and would return here soon.
Great place for groups. Plenty of seating and there is something on the menu for everyone. However I would suggest the staple wings and fries.
I've had a Brewniversity card for a year now and I only have a dozen beers and they are all from the Fred. Â Its a real shame, such a great beer menu let down by a food menu that would struggle to outclass Hooters. Â And that is a bad thing being just down the street from The Brickstore, Leon's, etc.
For that reason I never think to go here. Â I've only been there for two reasons, to watch a game or some friends were already going there.
If they upgraded their menu even a little bit, enough to give me 2-3 options, Id probably be a regular. Â I love beer and they have it, but I cant drink it on an empty stomach
This place is your typical sports bar that you would go to on Sunday to watch the NFL games and spend the afternoon. Â The place itself is pretty big and so is the actual bar with lots of tv's surrounding it. There is also a huge beer selection with something for everyone.
When were ordered drinks, I was told that they had to call a manager over to examine my ID as they examine all out of state ID's to make sure they are valid. This is extremely annoying as I had to wait for the manager to come over and validate my ID before they would even place my drink order. It took 10 minutes for the manager to come over and another 5 minutes to bring my drink, so ordering a drink became a 15 minute ordeal. This is a highly inefficient process and they need to allow the employees to examine the ID's themselves.
I ordered some wings and fries and they were decent. Â The wings were a good size actually, so i felt like a got my money's worth. Beyond that, the food was just ok and the place is ok as well.
Second and final visit. Walked in and waited 5-10 minutes with no host or staff in sight. Had to grab a seat in the bar and wait another 10 minutes before I had to grab my own menus. Finally got greeted by a server after another 10 minutes.
Apparently they have a policy where management has to check out of state IDs, which only means they don't trust their own staff to make decisions. Thus, robot service. Server wasn't very friendly and gave us a lot of attitude that we didnt realize lettuce was on the nachos. While it was our fault, the server has no right to be so rude. Nachos came back out cold. Also, she never noticed we didn't have silverware and never checked on us for 15 minutes.
Management wasn't that great either. We asked for the biggest game of the day to be played and they said no only because they don't show the previews, only live games.
One of the worst experiences a a restaurant. Complete lack of customer service and accommodation for guests. Never again at this location.
How very lack-luster and not that one should expect much from an overrated, been around too long sports bar (or an attempt at one)! Yeah, I'm raggin em'......this is my third experience with Taco Mac at this location, where I've dined in once and grabbed something to go twice ....
The atmosphere is shabby and IDK, drab maybe, not too much to be said about the menu either. I can tell you they have the worst wings I've ever tasted! Although they appear fat and meaty, the skin is often too thick and the flavors?? ...what flavors??
Some friends and I ordered some wings for my small shin-dig (I honestly should have known better)...We got the lemon pepper(less) and medium wings.
Wow, the lemon pepper wings had ummm visible pepper and I have no idea where the lemon went?? There wasn't even a HINT of lemon flavor! The wings were undercooked which makes the thick skin even harder to digest. The best thing I've had there is the blue cheese (chunky) and celery.
If you are looking for good or even decent wings, don't get em' here or you will be disappointed. I will not patronize another Taco Mac. Atlanta is loaded with options that are much better than this. I think the so-called "hey-day" for Taco Mac has faded......Btw, no one at my gathering touched those wings much so they were mostly leftover for me and I took them to work (where I work with a bunch of guys)...you know they reheated and ate em' ...... Yuck....LOL
I'm updating this in the hope that a manager will contact me, but I was severely disappointed in my experience tonight. We go in for Pint Night EVERY week, me and a group of folks from work, but this week was just annoying. I left my ID in my jeans at home, and while I understand they have a corporate policy of no ID no serve... several weeks earlier the manager had cleared husband whose ID had been left at home. He came over and asked him a few questions, asked the rest of the table some questions and cleared him for a beer. ALSO, I came from a passport appointment yesterday and happened to have a copy of my ID and old passport in my purse (why my ID wasn't in my wallet to begin with) and that wasn't considered valid either.
I get that it's the corporate policy, but if you're not going to apply it to EVERYONE don't apply it to ANYONE. I wouldn't be nearly as irritated if they hadn't just given my husband leniency and if we weren't in there every week. So, my point is, apply that rule evenly to everyone and don't make exceptions because all you're going to do is make people angry. Not to mention, the waitress seemed really put out that I didn't want to stay and have a coke and food when all I came for was a beer in the first place.
I've raised it another star from my last visit. Service was more attentive, but still disappointing. I ordered a Chimay Trippel in a bottle and it came to me with a frosted pint glass. Now, if you pride yourself on your beer selection, you should also know NOT to serve a Belgian Trippel in a frosted pint glass. I asked for a tulip and was told they did not have any. The closest they could get was a wine goblet. I was not there by choice so I am unsure if I will visit on my own accord.
Compared to other TMs, this is an aberration that I hope they can fix.
I didn't know what to expect when I first got here. It was kinda hot on the inside like their was not fully working. Nobody wanted to greet us and sit us. The host was nowhere in sight and the waiters and waitress such stared at us (creeeeeeeppppyyyy). We finally got service.
The service was sub par but the food was good. I got the six pack hot wings, miller high life, and fries. Everything tasted great. There is nothing special about their homemade ranch sauce. My table also got the BBQ sweet potato fries and they are pretty tasty. I have no problem coming here again.
I've eaten at many Taco Macs over the years, and the Decatur Location is awful. Â I've tried them twice now. Â The first time I waited over an hour for a togo order only to get home and realize they only gave me half of what I ordered. Â To add insult the wings weren't the usual great ones I'm used to. Â
I realize that everyone has bad days, so I gave this location a second chance. Â This time the order was prompt and the service was great. Â The food was terrible. Â The wings were mushy. Â It was sad that you could tell they had simply been reheated. Â
Taco Mac is one of my favorite places for wings, but you are best to avoid the Decatur location. Â They have several others in the Atlanta area that I've had great service from.
Service here was so bad it was comical. Â
I ordered a bloody mary and the waiter handed me a glass of watered down tomato juice, no garnish of any type. Â I questioned if I had maybe been given the wrong thing and he got sassy with me saying he was sure it was made right with no offer to try and make it better. Â I asked how much for an extra shot of their cheapest well vodka and he said it would be $5.00! I even asked what brand it was and he straight up refused to tell me. Â Um, can you do that? Â I know T-Mac is mostly a beer place, so I can write that off as a fault of my own for ordering out of the norm.
Out of all the food we ordered, everything either came out cold or soggy or both. Â Our waiter very seldomly came by to check on us and when he did he offered some weird phrase like, "How are those nachos rockin' for ya?" Â Dude, seriously who hired you? Â It's 2012, get it together. Â At another point in the night, we saw him very loudly serenading a table of girls. Â As Simon Cowell would say, he was pitchy. Â
Every time I've come here, the service and the food have been horrible and yet I keep convincing myself it has to have gotten better. Â But no. It hasn't. Â If anything, it's gotten worse.
Taco Mac - rights and wrongs
I really, really want to like Taco mac more than I do! Â They have pretty damn good food and one of the best selections of beer that you can find at a chain restaurant. Â Usually, people are friendly and there is always a place to sit. Â Thursdays they give away free pint glasses...lots of good going on here.
This one just barely cuts it, though. Â Parking is freakin' horrible. Â I know, it's Decatur and stuff but damn. Â Guess they want their patrons to keep the chub off cause you gotta walk to get here. Â Now that isn't a real big problem but compared to other TM's it's just a teeny tiny parking-lot.
Service has been hit or miss. Â That goes for any place but I've never had such inconsistencies from visit to visit and location to location. Â Our waitress actually asked us if want any appetizers twice in 2 minutes. Â I assume when I say no the first time that ya get the picture. Â Slow on the drinks and for re-orders. Â
Food was great, they do that right everytime. Â In fact, I can't think of one bad experience with the food. Â So, go TM! Â Beer prices are a little high but I've come to expect it now. Â
Now, let's get that service thing fixed guys and all will be well. Â I think you can tell from previous reviews that service is lacking...be forewarned!
Consistently terrible service, boring food, blaring obnoxious televisions and overpriced food. I have some friends who go regularly. Their only good reason for going is the free pint glasses on Thursdays... I think I've got enough pint glasses with misc beer logos on them for a lifetime.
It is good for groups in that it is big enough- but EVERY time I go, they mess up the orders and end up billing everybody incorrectly.
Taco Mac is Taco Mac. Â You generally know what to expect when you walk into one. Â I go here whenever I want wings - and they never disappoint. Â Mild and extra crispy with extra ranch (they have the best ranch ever). Â Oh, and their cheese dip is like a drug for me. Â I'm a sports fiend so I love that I can see multiple TVs anywhere I sit.
I also do takeout fairly regularly here and the folks at the bar are always friendly. Â This isn't the Taco Mac that's closest to home, but I like the vibe that I get from most of the staff here.
A good place to go for a game and a beer. The beer selection is great, but the prices can be a bit high at times. However, the Thursday night pint nights make it pretty worthwhile.
The wings are pretty consistent. They aren't the best in the world, but they are definitely tasty enough that I order them time and time again. Three Mile Island is worth the small extra price if you like some extra heat. I have never ordered my wings extra crispy, but that sounds like something I'll be trying next time I go.
My only qualm with this Taco Mac is the service. Some nights it is great, while other nights it is quite the opposite. A little more consistency here would earn another star or a half. If you like beer and sports, you'll easily get over this fact though!
I can't stand people that know what to expect from a restaurant and then complain when they get something different...
Such is the case here...
Taco Mac is a loud and proud sports bar that has an amazing beer selection and decent food. Â If fact, the chips and salsa are AWESOME! and I'm a major critic.
The whole point of the Mac is to get together and try some new beers with friends and/or family. Â I admit... Â I used to hate the Mac, but I also didn't love beer the way I do now.
Taco Mac is a solid 4 star place. Â My only complaint would be the limited parking...
Oh Taco Mac. My dear Taco Mac.
TM and I have an interesting relationship. My SO hates the place and I have my own issues with it. But I like their wings. And I'm not even gonna lie, I get a kick out of drinking beer out of the 20 oz. mug for the same price as a pint (although the beer IS overpriced). But TM has a big problem with consistency in just about every aspect of their business.
THE FOOD - I order the same thing 95% of the time: a six-pack medium with celery and ranch. Most of the time, the wings are juicy and sufficiently coated in sauce (my other favorites are lemon pepper and, when I'm feeling exceptionally brave, habanero BBQ). But I've had dry as hell wings, and wings swimming in sauce.
Everything else I've had is just meh. Salads, tacos, burritos, nachos...all pretty much forgettable. Except for the honey mustard dressing (which you can also order as a dipping sauce for chicken tenders), which is amazing (more on the honey side than the mustard). And the one burger I've had here was actually pretty good.
And really, the beer selection is great. It's nice knowing there'll always be something new to try. I'm also a big fan of Thursday pint nights. Order the beer of the month and get a free pint! (while supplies last, of course)
THE SERVICE - Oh lordy, I will try to keep this short. I've had amazing service, NO service (as in, no one ever came to [or ever near] our table and we left after waiting 20 minutes), and everything in between. The biggest issues are absent/slow-as-hell servers and messed up orders. And it's not limited to this particular location, although it is my regular TM. When I'm here, I always ask for a specific server because he is awesome. If he's not working, I cross my fingers and hope for the best. Â
So again. Consistency is not TM's strong suit. And I really think the issue is mostly in the service department. I reeeeally don't like it when my beer mug is empty. Taco Mac is like that sibling/friend that just can't quite get it together. They're flaky, easily distracted, and a little irritating. But you know they're a good egg, so you can't be too pissed.
Well, I still love ya, TM.
Living in Decatur, this is a walkable, likable place for my wife and I - especially on game days.
Now, granted, we've been fairly faithful taco mac fans for the past couple years, but this last time we went was just plain abysmal, and for that, I have to update my review. I don't know why it was so bad - i mean, usually, the service isn't really ALL that great/fast, but this time, it was painfully slow - and it was simply our waitress. Between the time that we sat down, and asked for waters, and when we finally got the waters, at least 15 minutes had passed, and another waitress had come by asking if we had been helped yet. Â We told her we were waiting on some waters that we had already asked for, and thanked her.
So finally, we get our waters, and we're ready to order - we just decided to get a beer, chips and salsa, and share a single order of habenero bbq wings. Â seems simple enough, and our waitress says she'll get it taken care of.
30 minutes go by. 30 minutes? somebody else finally brings us some chips and salsa. Â weird. Â where the heck is our waitress?
another 20 minutes or so and our wings come out - again, brought by somebody else. Â
all along, the other waitress who had asked us if she could take our drink order has been hustling and bustling and taking care of all sorts of tables around us.
finally our waitress appears, and asks if we need anything. Â we asked for a refill of chips and salsa and she says she'll "take care of it."
10 minutes later, somebody else walks around with a basket of chips, looks at various tables, puts it in the middle of a group at the bar - they look kinda weirded out by this - like they hadn't ordered it? but they take it anyway, and that person leaves.
another 10 minutes later, somebody else brings us chips - but no salsa.
finally, our waitress comes up and asks how the food is. By now, I was thinking about saying "umm - we were waiting for our refill of chips AND SALSA, but it's okay - i'll just have our check now." Â However, my wife, more sensibly reminded her of the fact that we also asked for salsa - and still hadn't gotten it. Â so she apologized and brought us some salsa in a couple minutes.
ugh. now that we had salsa, i had to eat them with cold chips.
finally, halftime saved us - we got our check and left. Â this is the first time i have every only intentionally left $1.00 for tip. Â I was so close to leaving nothing. I mean - I basically already did.
Our team was losing, and on top of that, I couldn't handle this poor service.
Will I ever go back? sigh - maybe - but only if my hunger for habenero bbq wings and unlimited refills of chips & salsa overcomes and blocks out these memories.
Taco Mac in Decatur is a consistent stop for my dietary needs.
If your dietary needs contain beer consumption and queso, then this is the right place. Better known for their wings and delightful dippings, I enjoy coming here with friends. The food is exactly as it appears, and there are simply no secrets. This is tex mex.
I just saw someone describe this location as "Blorf" and I might agree, if that made any sense.Anyone?
The way this location is set up could be described as a super casual hub for sport-watching and absolutely ZERO pretense. This location can be family friendly, but not in your neighborhood style applebees sort of way. (Which is more the style at the Lindbergh location)There's usually a bit of hubbub and plenty people watching to be had here.
Sure there may be some discrepancies, a giant roll of toilet paper hanging out in the toilet bowl, and a girl puking in the stall next to you. That's charm, if I do say so myself.
Taco Mac is known for its wings, which are consistently very good, succulent, and meaty. Â I can't think of a better place to order wings. Â 4 stars for the wings.
All the other food at Taco Mac seems mediocre to me. Â I found the salads at Taco Mac to be especially bland and mammoth; I can prepare tastier and healthier salads at home. Â 2.5 stars for the salads.
I always seem to have trouble finding parking at this location. Â I usually have better luck with parking at Taco Mac's Lindbergh location. Â
Bottom line: Recommended for carnivores, but not for vegetarians.
I'm really torn with how to write the review on this one. Â I've been to Taco Macs in a variety of locations more times in the past six months than I previously had been in my entire life. Â That's saying something, because there is one less than a mile away from the house I grew up in. Â Furthermore, Decatur is the one dining scene I haven't explored at all, and I know there are dozens of restaurants nearby that offer a more unique and local dining experience, even at the same price point.
All that being said, this Taco Mac is solid. Â We usually come with a group of 5-7, and they are always incredibly accommodating in arranging chairs, separating checks, and keeping the beer flowing. Â The last time we came was pint glass night, and even though I didn't order the beer that let's you keep the glass, the server gave me one anyway.
None of the food has blown me away, but I can always count on them for a decent salad and some meaty wings. Â They are extra cautious on the sauce heat levels though, so I bet even the most timid palates could stand the "hot."
All-in-all, I see no reason to put up a fight when this restaurant is suggested. Â It's more about the company anyway.
This is the place my husband & I go for wings. Fried, crispy, hot, and tasty. They're very consistent too. I like the spicier flavors they have, like TMI or hot. The wings come with fries or celery. The fries are pretty tasty, but I usually want celery to feel a little "healthier."
Their other food's not that great (we made the mistake of ordering a salad here once... mostly a bed of iceberg lettuce- yuck). Oh, but the wings are why we come back again and again :) Sometimes my husband gets a beer (they have a large selection on tap), but I'm really there for the wings :)
We came here for the last race of the NASCAR season.
I realize NASCAR isn't that popular in Decatur, but they have like 200 TVs in here. Â There were like two football games on, and they were on every single TV. Â No NASCAR on any of them. Â We sat down relatively impatiently and asked our waitress if she could put it on. Â She was kind of unsure/didn't care, and we had to ask her again about ten minutes later. Â She came back and said only her manager could change the channels, and that he was busy filling out paperwork or something ridiculous. Â We told her we were going to leave if we could not watch it, and that still didn't do the trick. Â
We left and have not been back since. Â I enjoy going to other Taco Macs, but this one suffers from bad management. Â It is obvious.
It's weird because I enjoy most Taco Macs-- this is just the worst one ever.
This is an old review from 11/28/2008- I yelped the wrong Taco Mac location (Peachtree Street location). Â
So after our horrible lunch experience at Amaryn's Thai Bowl, we decided to walk across the street to get some real grub- yes, the hot wings at taco mac in particular. Â
Oftentimes whenever we pass by this place on our way home a few blocks east on Ponce, we do a 'mental drool spot' in our heads and say, "oooh...Taco Mac...." but granted that those times are never during typical mealtimes, we don't get to go that often. Â
Okay, I'll admit that part of our hesitation to go in the past was due to the horrible service we've experienced- it just took too long for the food to get to the table. Â
But we craved some wings, and we shared 20 of them as a post-lunch 'snack' of sorts. Â Taco mac is pretty consistent with their wings- crispy skin, juicy meat- tasty buffalo sauce. Â Awesome. Â
update:
It seems like the management perhaps took the advice of disgruntled customers (maybe like myself?) from the past, and decided to make customer service a higher priority. Â It was a busy afternoon, but we were seated promptly, our waiter was there within 2-3 minutes, gave me an excellent beer recommendation (Breckenridge Vanilla Porter), and treated us as if were in an actual sit-down restaurant! Â Imagine that! Â In a pub like Taco Mac, no less! Â
I'm glad that Taco Mac is just a few blocks away....so I can satisfy my (ahem) my wife's late night cravings.....right dear?
Update- we were back here a week or so later with two of our friends, and we ordered the T.M.I wings (Three Mile Island, which gives the impression that it may also lead to 'TMI' moments in regards to bathroom behavior), and their habanero BBQ wings. Â Both were surprisingly not too spicy, and were very tasty.
Man - Taco Mac isn't bad for what it *is* ... and all it is is a sports bar.
Yes, it's it's "Casual Dining" but it's totally my choice to watch my college football game in some other place than my living room.
It's not a dive, the food is interesting (they've got some good twists on the ol' bar food) and they have a pretty good selection of beer.
Don't take a romantic date, but if you're craving chicken fingers or a burger, want to drink a beer AND to watch the game  ... it's pretty freakin' perfect.  And it's better than the Ruby Tuesday's down the street.
Huge sports fan here (can't wait to flop in front of the TV and watch the Olympics), heads out to a non-traditional sports bar to watch a game.
Don't get me wrong I actually like Taco Mac. I love the chill environment. I always go with like one other person but end up joining a group of strangers to yell over the game.
UNFORTUNATLY for me, it doesn't matter where I sit, I ALWAYS end up with the same waitress. This girl is a nightmare!! She tries to pressure you into ordering a ton of food by giving you this retarded evil stare.
I head to Taco Mac with the current, settle in, and we order a beer and a cosmo., she stands there with her hands on her hips and says "is that it". Um yes that's all, we didn't come for your soaked in grease fries, brown salad or cold cheese nachos. So after we finish the first round, she comes and asks if we want a refill, sure, again she just stands there as if we were going to order more, of course I give her the "I'm going to kill you if you don't leave stare" and she walks off and returns 15 minute later with 2 beers.
Again I stress that I like Taco Mac, but a pleasurable experience has always been limited. But once I get over the annoyance of the waitress I usually enjoy myself.
Unappetizing and greasy food, pathetic and mostly domestic beer selection, unfriendly service, and you could probably find better atmosphere at Waffle House.
I'm ashamed to say I've been here more than once. I guess I should have learned my lesson the first time: Point me in the direction of Brick Store.
Service is mediocre. Mostly young college-aged kids a bit wide-eyed and clueless. beer selection is pretty good, although I'd recommend The Brick Store Pub if not just for the added atmosphere.
the only thing i eat there is their Club Salad. A great and filling non-carb extravaganza.
Taco Mac is what it is.
I really don't have a lot of good stuff to say about Taco Mac, no matter what location you're talking about. Â
This was the place we could rely on in the suburbs to get insanely crunk when we were over 21 but still living with our parents. Â So now that I live in the city this is the absolute last place I will go. Â There is nothing special or delicious about their food- it's basically a place to get drunk, and if you suddenly feel hungry and your back is against the wall, get some overly salted chips and canned salsa.
There are about 300 other places that are more unique (at least in town) where you can drink and catch a game.
I went to Taco Mac with a big group to watch the UNC vs. NC State game yesterday. When we got there I asked our waiter for a pitcher of Turbo Dog IPA. He kind of made a face. So I asked, "Don't you like Turbo Dog?" And he said, "It's not what I would recommend." I asked what he would recommend and he said Sweetwater 420.
Now, I love Sweetwater. But I drink Sweetwater all the time. So I said, "You know what, just bring me a pitcher of PBR." He said okay, but came back ten minutes later with the news that they were out of PBR. I said okay, bring me a pitcher of Turbo Dog. He made the face again. He said, how about a pitcher of Brooklyn IPA? I said fine. Then he came back ten minutes later with the news that they didn't even have Brooklyn on tap. "How about I just bring you a pitcher of Turbo Dog?" he asked. I said that would be great.
It took me about half an hour to get a pitcher of beer. Unbelievable.
But Taco Mac doesn't just serve beer. They've got food, too. And the food is average, at best. And when I say average, I'm being really charitable. Chips with spinach and avocado dip got soggy fast and the french fries were about two steps below McDonald's fries.
There are a bunch of TVs that show sports, including some large projection screens. But that's about all there is to recommend Taco Mac.
