A friend suggested we meet here for dinner. The service was decent. I had the California Chicken Sandwich (Grilled and seasoned chicken breast topped with Monterey Jack cheese, sliced avocado & avocado ranch dressing. Served on a New York onion roll) with curly fries. It was tasty, although, I could do without the onion roll. I would try this sandwich again either on a different bun, or with no bun at all. - One cool thing, is you can earn Upromise Dining Rewards at this establishment. I earned $0.50 for Sallie Mae :)
Review Source:I've been to Talk of the Town a few times now and each experience has been different so I'm not too sure how I feel about the place. Â I guess I would consider it a sports bar. Â There are tv's all over the place so no matter where you are sitting, you will have no problem seeing the game. Â The place is pretty small compared to other sports bars in the area. Â There are some tables throughout the place, but if it gets crowded, it's hard to move around.
Drink prices are average. Â I'm not sure I've ever been in the place and really got a "special". Â The food is pretty good. Â It's your typical bar food. Â I love their waffle fries! Â Perfectly crispy. Â
Overall, Talk of the Town is a great little neighborhood bar with plenty of TV's to watch a game and eat some decent bar food.
Great neighborhood bar - fun atmosphere, especially evenings Wed. - Sat. Â It's a great mix of ages, but definitely younger the later it gets. Â Some great "talent" working during those evenings as well as patrons. ;). Love the chicken fingers and curly fries, but also love the bacon burger.
Review Source:Went on a weekend night, and the place was pretty busy. Â While its a Grill and Bar I got more of the Bar vibe with the noise level and the rowdiness of some of the other clientele. Â
Food was decent, nothing to rave about, but it hit the spot. Â Service was pretty decent for how busy it was. Â Waitress was friendly and was good at explaining what came with the specials, the meal size, etc. Â Â I'd go back if in the area.
Well let me start with - got food poisoning here.
As I had heard that this might be one of those "foodie" bar/grills. I went with the Steak special and the wife went with the Bison burger. The wife's burger was cooked nicely though the Blue cheese overpowered the taste of the Bison and was a detractor, although once removed, the burger tasted flavorful. My medium rare steak however was undercooked and the loaded baked potato was ice cold. The second baked potatoes was not much better and they finally got the second half of my steak cooked properly. Service was lackluster and it seemed that management was non existent.
The meal didn't sit well even while in the establishment. Got rid of said meal upon arriving home and proceeded to be ill for the next 24 hours.
I will not be going back.
Recently, I was in need of some serious bar food (midweek around 2 pm)... Thus, when I strolled by Talk of the Town, I opted to roll the dice and check it out.
Upon entering, I found the atmosphere to be a comfortable mix of dive/sports bar. Â (The bar was surprisingly busy for being an early afternoon so I was unable to grab a stool at the bar.)
After grabbing a table, I was promptly served by a cheery waitress who suggested the Black and Bleu Burger. Â I happily heeded her advice and was beyond satisfied with her suggestion. Â
All in all, I found Talk of the Town to be an average bar. Â I would not go out of my way to return here despite being home to some tasty bar fare. Â This logic is largely influenced by the fact that I did not find their bar tenders particularly friendly and I found the crowd there to be a little "too country softball" for my taste.
A great addition to the Leawood area. I haven't been to the old location in quite a while, but this new space is great! I tried the Surfin Burger. My wife had the Ahi tuna salad. We were both happy with the choices. And the chocolate cake was fantastic. Â It is quite loud in the restaurant on a Friday night, but we expected it.coming in. I'll definitely come back. Â Our son joined us as we were finishing our dessert, and he ordered the killer dessert that comes in a dump truck... quite over-indulgent! Â But perfect for a teenage boy with a huge appetite.
Review Source:This review is for the new TOTT located at 135th and Roe. Â The new TOTT is a going to be the next hot spot for those looking to enjoy a night out with friends with great food, great drinks, and a comfortable atmosphere. Â Unlike the other establishments in the area, TOTT will be a great place to catch the games while wearing your favorite gear and not worrying about how dressed up you need to be to get in the door! Â Hats off to the owners for bringing an establishment like this to the south side of town!
Review Source:Been here twice, as per my "give every place multiple chances" philosophy. It has not impressed either time. Please note this is just about the bar scene...I have not eaten a single piece of food here.
OK, so based on my usual bar visiting schedule, this place was dead. Both times, it was a Sunday in the late afternoon/early evening time. Let me review the last visit as it's freshest in my mind...however, both times were fairly similar:
The service, for the time, was surprisingly slow. Two bartenders and at least six servers, and it took five minutes to even place an order - bourbon and diet coke. Their soda was flat, so he had to change the mix...no "here's what the delay was for", no "sorry", just a five minute delay on top of the original five minutes for a bourbon and diet. On top of that, it was poured weaker than an NFL kicker. Second drink, a DOUBLE bourbon and diet, was even weaker. Apparently "double" means double soda, double price, single liquor. Oh, and wrong liquor at that...rum. When there are five people at the whole bar, is it that hard to remember bourbon instead of rum, especially when it's on your little Aloha system at the computer?
I have heard a lot of people talk about good food, good beer selection and good TVs. I can review two - the TVs and the beer. As for the TVs - meh...they are OK. This wouldn't be my first place to see a game in the immediate area, as I think both Danny's and Tanner's have better. The beer...dude, you're next store to Barley's, which has some of the best beer choices in JoCo. No need for TOTT. Oh, plus, they were out of Boulevard Wheat on tap during my last visit. What KC-area bar runs out of Wheat on tap?!?
Just not sold on this place. I gave it its two tries...I won't be rushing back.
I never know what to make of this place, sometimes I like "The Talk" and sometimes I don't. Â Basically, it's your run of the mill neighborhood bar. Â They do have pretty good servers and a good TV setup. Â Their food is typical bar food. Â Decent drink specials, but nothing that you'd drive a distance for. Â It's a middle ground for some of my friends, that's why I find myself at "The Talk" every now and then.
Review Source:TOTT gives me a bit of an old-school Boston bar vibe, all scarred wood floors & exposed red brick. Â It can get busy if there's a game on (we had a fifteen-minute wait the other night when the place was packed with the KU faithful, but service was still pretty quick.) Â The burgers are outrageously good... I had the Black & Blue, The Guy had the Cowboy. Â Fries (nicely crispy) or chips (handcut & thick) are equally good choices on the side. Â They don't have a stunning selection of drafts, but there's usually something on special that sounds good ($3 Blue Moons last time I was there, suited me just fine.) Â Â As Rob mentions, it's a good late-night choice in an area that tends to roll up the sidewalks early.
Review Source:Talk of the Town (TOTT) is near where I live. Â It's in a kind of nondescript strip mall on the northwest corner of 119th and Quivira and faces off against Barleys Brewhaus, just across the parking lot. Â Barley's has a wider range of beers, but you won't go thirsty at TOTT. Â They have Guinness and Free State's Ad Astra on draft, and that's enough to make me a happy camper! Â Service is friendly. Â The menu is basic American bar and grill food. Â They serve a decent Reuben with good homemade (and crispy) fries. Â
One of its chief attractions, not really emphasized in the other reviews, is that TOTT offers a full menu UNTIL MIDNIGHT, which isn't that common in suburbia. Â For that alone they get an extra star!!! Â Check them out when you're looking for something to eat late at night, fellow night owls!
As far as townie bars go this one is pretty good. Â There are lots of options if you don't eat meat. I get the grilled cheese on their pretzel bread. It is a good sandwich. The service is great. I used to play poker here and if you tip the servers well they actually remember you and give you great service.
The atmosphere is a really fun place to watch a game.
If you go here expecting cuisine or a trendy atmosphere you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for a townie bar to watch the game, this is the right place.
Talk or TOT as it is know to most is the best south Joco bar to watch a game. Best TV's(plasma & lcd) of any bar in the area, and plenty of them (14). This is a KU bar, so you can expect to watch any KU football or basketball game with full fledged audio. Also a Chiefs bar (bleh!) so expect that on Sunday's at noon. Sunday's also offer a full brunch including made to order omelette's and prime rib until 1:30p. You can go here to watch any NFL game as the Sunday Ticket is available. Also available is the MLB Extra Inning's package so you can expect to see some of the finest St. Louis Cardinals fans watching a victory here.
The food is about what you expect and just a little more. The best menu item is any of their burgers which are half price on Wed ($8.49 reg) with a side item, might I suggest the tots or hand cut chips. The spirits are right on par with nothing to exotic.
Lastly, they've got a nice sized patio that allows for game watching with two lcd's nicely positioned. Check this place out on a weeknight or on your way home on Saturday night as it's sure to be busy and...you might just see me there.
Talk of the Town is a classic bar and grille. Â It has fairly generic menu and the food is good, but nothing out of this world. Â
The wait staff was friendly when I visited and the service was prompt. Â The domestic bottles taste as good. Â I enjoyed Talk of the Town, it is a reliable option for food, friends and fun.
Usually a review can and should stand on its own merit and I'll almost always avoid comparisons between specific establishments, as places go for different things, do things differently, have a different mood on purpose, etc. Â Talk of the Town, though, pretty much shares a parking lot with another bar, one that is seemingly much more popular, so I can't help but think that the average drinker isn't going to walk into one without at least checking out the other. Â Talk of the Town, when it comes down to a knock-out brawl, seems like a young and meek cousin to Barley's Brewhaus: it's not as loud, not as busy, not as happening, but, if you're after the things I'm after in a drinking establishment, it gets louder raves from me, exactly for all those reasons.
The long draws are cheap, their wells cheaper (McCormick as your well? Â Yikes) but the friendly, attentive, staff and low prices make up for it. Â I haven't tried the food; I didn't need to as the place looked and felt like a better place to drink than eat. Â My friend's Guinness was perfect. Â That's important, in case you're wondering.
The staff, I should mention, has got that "hottie next door" look to them. Â No pretentiousness coming out of their ears, just a friendly smile, and knowledgeable answers. Â I love that.
Our group's DD got free soda, which always gives points in my book (and is seemingly rare these days).
UPDATE: Â I've eaten here a few times now and I gotta say their club sammich is spot-on awesome.
