Decent place to get a beer and a grab something to eat. Stayed at the Hampton Inn across the parking lot , so we dined here 3 times, mostly due to convenience.  Food was good, prices are fair and they have a nice beer selection. TIP- if you are staying at Hampton Inn ask for a $10 off coupon at the front desk. We used one every night we ate here to get a few extra beers and stretch our reimbursable dinner expenses a bit further.

We went to Great America during the day and decided to have dinner at, what looked like, a cute Irish Pub. We were totally NOT impressed, the food was average, but the service was TERRIBLE! The management needs to do some better training.

Our waitress took our orders and took forever to bring drinks to us; there were only two of us! My husband ordered another beer (go figure, we're in a pub) and our waitress NEVER brought it out after we waited for 17 minutes. She never checked on us at all. We were there on a Sunday evening, so it was not crowded at all. We asked for a manager, he got us our bill and did not even apologize.

Do not waste your money at O'Tooles!

That last line will live in infamy.

Our most recent experience here was absolutely terrible. Our server, Patrick, took our order and then we never saw him again. No, that's not true. He did rush to our table as soon as he saw I'd flagged down a manager to complain about our service.

I'm not exaggerating -- someone else delivered our food. No one refilled drinks. No one stopped by to check on us. Patrick walked by our table at least twice to go check on another one of his tables and didn't even acknowledge us.

The manager, Scott, was kind about the incident. He offered us 20% off the check, which I felt was appropriate -- the food was good and other than getting the wrong salad dressing for a side salad, was exactly what we ordered.

So beware of the service, especially if your server's name is Patrick.

It is what it is.  It's located near hotels which is in a tourist spot.  I stopped in on a Saturday night for some food and beer. My server was Chauncey, and he was first rate. Easily in the top 10% of servers I have encountered.  I knew what  I wanted to eat, but I let my servers make some beer suggestions.  Chauncey was tag teaming patrons in the bar area with Arthur. Together they were getting it done.  IDK why some of the previous reviewers were having service issues.  I have kids, and although this place is located next to an amusement park, it should be pretty clear by the name that this is a pub.  There is a Chucky Cheese across the street if that is your current situation.  That being said, I saw plenty of customers with babies, and they looked happy.   This really is a sports bar/ pub. I had a great time watching a ball game and a hockey game while enjoying some GREAT BEERS and fantastic service.   Maybe mgt. paid attention to the poor service reviews.  My service was excellent,, and I am very particular.  There is a Golden Corral next door. Take the kids there, drop them off at the hotel, then enjoy some adult time at this place.

This is our bar of choice whenever we are in Gurnee. Nice atmosphere, maybe a little loud on occasion. Lots of great bar food, with a few extra items that set them apart from others.
They serve a vegetarian burger, which is awesome in itself. The burgers are gigantic and I am never able to finish one, even half by myself. I like the beer selection, although I'd wish they had more German beers.

    I want to give 4 stars.....but......I......just......can't..........yet......

This place has a great fish fry...you only get two pieces but they are soo good with the house made tartar.  UNTIL....they put the fish on two pieces of stanky lettuce and that nasty hot lettuce flavor kills the once crispy coating and makes it a soggy, hot lettuce flavored mess.  Lose the lettuce and put the fish on a rack for a second!

Mango margarita is my fav, but I def have to tell them to make it really thick (so it comes out sorta thick) otherwise its a runny mess....

    Pork sliders were just okay.....

And I'm not one to comment much on service, but the chicks that work here (bartenders mainly) are complete rags!  Not friendly at all, very put off that they are working I guess....kinda bugs me....

Beers - wow. Tons on tap and tons in the bottle. Most of which are microbrews.

Wings - much much better than average. Make sure to choose the garlic parm wings. Wow!

Samiches - Their burgers are very good, ribs are yummy.

Decor - cool pub like feeling. Very large bar with tons of TVs.

    Price - quite reasonable.

Great ambiance, draft beer selection and food were excellent. Service was great too! What more could be expected? 2 bars and flat screens everywhere, nice hangout for sports fans too.

I came by on a weekday for trivia night with a group of friends. I especially appreciated the loud sound system which made it really easy to hear the questions. Service was ehhh at best. Our waiter was straight up confused about what was going on. I'm happy I decided on the tater tots as a post-dinner snack. It was just the right portion, sizzling hot, and fried to perfection.

Color me impressed by their deep micro brew list.

Though we only stopped here for drinks and an appetizer or 3, I was completely surprised by our experience.

Call it the word association game or what have you but the word "Tool" doesn't conjure up an environment of laid back, friendly people. I think they'll be tools. But that's just me.

We ordered some tots and a "small" plate of nachos.
The tots were incredible. And the nachos were plentiful.

Our waitress was quick, friendly and a hair sarcastic (no problem there).
On any note - check it out if you like beer that doesn't end with the word "light."
And if you like tots. Mmm...tots

This place has a clean, spacious environment.  The noise levels are moderate, and the staff was friendly.

Their menu looked awesome, but unfortunately turned out to be unremarkable.

I ordered a bacon and bleu burger, medium rare with fries and the waitresses recommendation of draft beer (they have a nice selection, and I had intense decision-making anxiety).  The fries were good, the drink was good, and the burger was just "meh."  It wasn't really medium rare... more of a medium with spots of pink.  There was an ample amount of bleu cheese and 2 thin slices of bacon on top of the patty, and this was all on a somewhat crumbly bun.

It tasted OK, but if I had to do it again, I'd get something else (and I LOVE bleu burgers).  I don't have any other complaints, but this place didn't really leave an significant impression on me.

I wouldn't avoid it, but I wouldn't recommend it either.

We realized that we very likely made a mistake about a minute after we ordered beverages, but we noted that the Timothy O'Toole's (TOT) was full, so we theorized that it may be because the food was great ... we hoped.

The dining room in which we were seated was bright and very loud with blaring televised football matches and yelling, occasionally screaming children, who evidently were ignored by their parents, who were socializing with other parents. We still remained hopeful, since we noted that they finished their meals, and the parents were about to finish their beers. So, we decided to order our meals and stay put. About 8 minutes later, our waiter returned to ask us to make alternate meal selections. The kitchen ran out of a key ingredient to fulfill our original order. We placed our second order (which happened to correspond with our second mistake involving our selection of TOT's), and were served our meals no more than 10 minutes later; maybe less. The good news is, nothing was greasy. The bad news is our food tasted as though it may have been made by a commissary and warmed on-site (our third mistake). There wasn't anything terrible about it, but there wasn't anything great about it, either. BUT by the end our our meal; we believe that we probably determined why TOT was so full! The food is inexpensive and filling; which is great for young families and budget conscious singles, who want to go out for a bite to eat, watch sports, have a few beers and maybe socialize with other patrons. Context means a lot.

Moral to the Story: Even when you are out, about, on the run, dizzy and desperate to eat something, nearly anything, still take a moment to check Yelp to determine if the establishment that you are about to enter is the type of place that you would frequent.

I really like this place, my boyfriend and I go here once per week.  They have many craft beer choices and good food.  There is a large dining area that is great for families and two bars that are great to eat at or just drink.  The beer selection is better than anywhere else in the area.  I like going for happy hour/dinner.

If you're not coming here to drink and want the yummiest shepherd's pie, this is the place to be. I was looking for a place to take my daughter on St. Patrick's Day so she could try some Irish food without us having to drive to the city. She ordered the corned beef & cabbage and I ordered the shepherd's pie. She didn't care for her dinner. I think she was just too little and that dish can sometimes be an acquired taste. Needless to say, we shared mine. It was HUGE so it helped me out. Their shepherd's pie is made with beef stew sized chunks of beef. The flavor was deeeelish and the mashed potatoes on top were pretty good too. We've been back a few times since and my daughter still craves it.

Now onto the bar side of the establishment. Tons of tvs and seating and a nice, mixed crowd that always looks like they're having a good time. Wish I had more free time to hang out! ;-)

Parking sucks sometimes, so just be prepared to possibly walk a bit.

I probably received the worst service ever tonight.

Our waitress could not have been more obvious in her efforts to push us out. I understand a place like this doesn't like customers who bring in children under the age of 2 on a Saturday night, but come on, we got there before 6pm....If you don't want families in your place, then why bother having high-chairs?

She was rushing us along throughout the whole meal. After 5min of bringing us our food, she was already asking if we wanted boxes. After JUST finishing my sandwich (which wasn't terrible), she pointed to my fries and asked if I was going to eat them. As my wife was chewing food, she started taking her plate (she was so annoyed and wanted to leave that she didn't bother to protest).

In addition to this awful service, they have some major problems with their beer menu. On paper it looks great, but it greatly differs from another menu I saw as I was leaving. They didn't have the first two beers I wanted, and when I asked for the special that included a beer glass, the waitress had no idea if they even had the glasses.Upon telling me they didn't have my first two choices, the waitress offered me another beer from the same brewery that wasn't even listed on the menu.

If I actually lived in the area I might complain, but since I don't I'll just avoid this place next time I'm in town.

We go there often. We live in the neighborhood. The food is consistently good. The choice of Beers on Tap is excellent. They are changing them out so you can try something different or stick with what you like. We have had consistently good service. I would give it 5 stars but  they need to vary the menu. Also if you watch the website they always have functions going on to keep you interested. The last event we attended was a beer tasting. They had 50 different beers available in the two bar areas along with commemorative glasses. It was great fun. Good place to have a fun night out.

The positives are that they have a nice big bar (two in fact).  They have lots of beers on tap -- and a solid selection.  Finally, the food is pretty good -- wings are meaty, cobb salad is great, and others are good.

What really hurts this establishment is awful service.  Hosts that have no clue what is going on with tables and turnover.  Bartenders that can't articulate anything about beers.  Waiters that are impolite and not helpful.

If you are going for beers and to watch games on many of the screens...go for it.  If you are going on a night that (may be) slightly crowded...I would pick another spot.

I give them a 2 because I'm comparing them to the O'Tooles that's located in downtown Chicago. I expected to find similar service here but that was not the case at all.

    1. I did not enjoy the food. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad. The chicken was dry and so was the salad.

    2. I LOVE O'Tooles Holy Water and that's what me and my bf came here for and it was so ridiculously watered down. I was extremely disappointed with this because it's not a cheap drink. After that I ordered a glass of Merlot and it tasted like grape flavored vinegar.

    3. There was a band there that gave me a massive headache.

I will never be returning again.

I came here on a weekday. Got there around 10:30 ish to find out they closed at 11. Well... all the chairs were already up, most of everything put away, and the workers seemed irritated that I was there. Shitty service, rushed out, and not enough time to enjoy my overpriced beer.  Will never go there again. Ever.

Went there on 2 consecutive evenings (that's always a good sign) so I will likely return.

They have a fair sized bar with many GOOD beers on tap.  And a good crowd having a good ole' time.

The food that I ordered; steak sandwich (would have been much better if they didn't put the mystery cheese on it) - this was not advertised as, nor did I want a cheesesteak - which is not what this was.  It was supposed to be a rib-eye on a bun, which I did want - but then, as I said, there was some mystery cheese or sauce - that diminished the flavor of what I was expecting - significantly.  But I never the less ate almost all of it.
And the caesar salad, thankfully it wasn't just romaine lettuce with a side dish of generic caesar sauce.  They spend some time building this salad and it looked good and all that BUT it also had some mystery cheese/sauce on it - with the regular typical caesar things.  Once again slightly diminishing the flavour - but I ate almost all of this too.

In summary, a great place to come in, have a few drinks - with or without friends.  But perhaps the food not being the main reason to come - it really isn't that bad.

Well, this is going to be an interesting review. After a long day at Six Flags in Gurnee, the buy one get one coupon we got at Great America took us to Timothy O'Toole's. We got the coupon on the same day we went to Timothy O'Tooles. HOWEVER. The coupon was expired. Silly them for us to think that they would accept a coupon they gave us the same day we decided to redeem it. Silly them for not budging at all or at least honoring the 20% coupon on the other side of it. We went inside and were on the waiting list for 10 minutes when there were several tables open and just not cleaned. After 10 minutes, we decided to leave. So I can't give it 5 or 1 star because i didn't taste the food, so a 2 will stick it right in the middle because they were in no way exceptional. The manager wouldn't budge at all on the coupon, even though half of the customers that came in were ONLY IN THERE BECAUSE OF THE GENEROUS COUPON handed out at the theme park. Greedy managers don't deserve my money...so I gave it to Lone Star Steakhouse!

    Dear Timmy O'Toole's,

You have the feel of an Americanized Irish Pub, but you were celebrating Octoberfest? Where do you fit in??

You had Dragon's Milk.... Mmmmm. But you tried to serve it to us in a frosty glass. Let the flavor of this delightful brew warm up a bit yo'.

You also had pulled pork nachos. They were delightful hot at 11 PM and cold at 11 AM.

You had a really yummy honey mustard sauce--yeahhh I judge a place based on their honey mustard. It's an important aspect of dining at a pub, bar, or casual dining spot.

You had a disgruntled server. I'm not sure of his name, but he seemed angry at the world. And us. We had just come from Six Flags, dude. We had a coupon. And we tip well. Even when you're kind of douche-y. Smile a little more, my friend. (Humorously enough, he looked a lot like Tommy from True Blood...and acted like him).

You had garlic parm chicken wings. They were disappointing. Not garlic parm-y enough for the BF. He was sad. But he ate them anyways.

I feel as though I can't judge too harshly or too well.

    Perhaps I'll see you again,
    C

REJOICE!  There is a decent option for dinner after a day at Great America.

The clean, well staffed bar/restaurant was a welcome sight after a day of death-defying flying, looping, and swooping.

Our server was fantastic, and the food was good, and priced appropriately.

They seem to have a lot of activities, entertainment, and specials.  Check them out!

Well I wasn't drinking so maybe that was my problem.  The Fish and Chips were tasteless and the breading fell off the fish when you tried to cut it.  My wife had a salad which was pretty pathetic and had to ask for more lettuce.  It's not even close to being an Irish Pub but is much closer to a standard cookie-cutter sports bar with an Irish theme.

I do highly reccomend the Reuben Eggrolls though.  What a cool idea and they were very tasty.  I would come back for these and a couple of beers but skip this place for dinner.

Went here after going to Great American and getting a coupon for this restaurant. They have a good menu with a lot of options, and many many beers to choose from. I had the wing basket, I chose the buffalo sauce for the wings and it was a good choice. There were many options for potato side, I chose the tater tots, also a good choice. The other people in my party said their food was good. I would go back and try again.

I came in after receiving a coupon from Six Flags. Great food, great service! I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to get, but I went with the wing basket...they were great! not too spicy but still were flavorful. My boyfriend had the Little Timmy, which was also delicious. HOMEMADE onion rings were something that stood out to me, I hate going to restaurants and getting things that came out of a freezer. The waiter, Jake?? was very knowledgeable and helped us a lot with choosing what we got.

Also had the Holy Water in a personal pitcher thing, good deal for 10$, tastes great, and packs a punch. I'm glad that they have a Chicago location...but I will be returning after Six Flags every time.

The TV's were nice and the placement of them was done well.

Went in on Wednesday morning/afternoon. I sat at the bar, and it was pretty dead there. Shannon served me. Service was excellent, and personable, and I had the Reuben Egg Rolls. The size was JUST RIGHT. I highly recommend this place.  ALSO, the bathrooms were clean, and didn't smell bad, which is a HUUUUGE plus.

It's what you'd expect. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a pub, and you get mediocre bar food. It does, however, seem to be the happening spot to be in Gurnee on a weekend. Good place to come to watch a game since they have lots of large TVs, and the circular bar is spacious, but gets packed quickly.  Also, it's next to an Oberweis.  Nothing wrong with that.

    Review Source:

Tons of TVs in a pseudo-Irish bar environment. That basically sums it up.

Drink specials were ok, but not great. And selling Sam Adams as your in house brand and calling it a "lighter Sam Adams"  probably impresses some people. Lots of different beers available at average prices, which is good... didn't expect to see Delirium Tremens on tap. So yay for that. Boo for them being out of what we initially ordered though (Great Lakes Eliot Ness).

The food is ok - I had the grilled cheese on the egg bread, and there wasn't enough cheese for me to really even taste it. The tots were good. The husband's burger was well cooked and tasty, the bacon cooked perfected and cheese nicely melted, but the bun was tasteless. A really good bun would go a long way for this burger. Onion rings were actually great - the onion almost melted in my mouth.

The apple crisp dessert was fine.

Overall, it is a bar with ok food and a ton of TVs. If I'm stuck at my parent's house for the weekend I may venture over to sit at the bar, but really it didn't seem much different than somewhere like a Friday's to me.

The suburban outcropping of the downtown joint though cleaned up and dressed nicer.  The owner must live out by here and wanted to bring part of the city to the 'burbs while raising a family or something.

Food is eh to not good.  Decent place to hang I suppose considering there may not be many other places to do so out there.  Lots and lots of tv's so if you're going to go dine at a table and expect to have conversation with others, best adjust the expectation.

Somehow I ended up here two Saturdays in a row.  Did I mention I live on the south side of Chicago?  Well, both having suburban parents means boyfriend and I are around here sometimes.

The first time, my sister and friends and I stopped in after a movie for a beer and apps.  It was some kind of MMA fight night and was CROWDED.  I didn't know so many people love watching men in little shorts kick the crap out of one another... ok, yes I did.  They have a great selection of beers, and the appetizers were decent but service was sloooowwwwww.

Second time, it was late in the evening and I figured most places in humdrum suburbia wouldn't be serving food, so this seemed like an easy option.  I was worried when we had the same server as last time, but he was much more on his game this time.  I enjoyed my french dip and boyfriend appeared to like his veggie burger.  I'd be back to try more of the food, or for a vegetarian option in the burbs for the boyfriend.   It's still super freaking loud in here even when there's no MMA on, so bring some earplugs or bring your outdoor voice.

So they got this banner up for "award-winning" wings, which caught a co-worker's eye and triggered  sophisticated coordination via Office Outlook Calendar for a lunch here.  The place looks nice, especially for this area...deco/design in here is pretty modern and they have nice flatscreens all over the place.  Probably a decent hangout if I ever had to be here on the weekend.  On to the wings - they have a Chicago location that competes yearly with 200 restaurants, and won it a couple years ago I guess.  Sounds like they'll do well, though I'm not expecting wings to knock my socks off.  Bottom line is they were very VERY standard wings.  In fact, I bet their other food items are better than the wings.  I also agre that this place is better as a bar than a restaurant.

I'm rating this as a bar, not a restaurant...I'm also comparing it to bars in Gurnee.

Great Sports Bar as there are dozens and dozens of plasma screen TVs all over the rather large bar with seemingly every sports game on all at the same time. Although some tables within the bar only had a good view of 2 games at a time, so if there is a certain game you want to watch, you probably want to get here super early so you can make sure you are seated in front of your favorite game.

There were some unique beers that usually are not found elsewhere especially in Gurnee but many I had never heard of. The server seemed semi-knowledgeable about describing the beers.

The place was pretty packed for a Saturday night. Unfortunately, there was a sub-par band playing making things way too noisy. Well, at least they didn't try to make me pay for it.

There was a good mix of old and young people here.

I'd come here again but if good non-dive bar options in Gurnee grow, this place could be knocked down a couple stars.

THE BEST BEER SELECTION IN GURNEE!

You will not find a better beer selection anywhere nearby, this is the place.

They have Fat Tire and Delerium on tap ( along with many others ), and they have specialty beers every month. Right now they have Dragon's Milk, which is incredibly hard to find, and is also incredibly delicious.

    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.timothyotooles.com%2FGurnee%2520Beer.html&s=51971dce49897163eb5ef4831d2a5717d56ee8de8e221119c88b577a42c63742" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.timothyotoole…</a>

The food is ok, but screw the food, THEY HAVE GOOD BOOZE.

EDIT:  I had to change my review from 4 stars to 3 stars because the food has progressively gotten worse. The only food item i'd order from them anymore are the buffalo wings. However, if I was rating this place as a bar alone i'd give it 5 stars, the selection is awesome.

Monkeydish is no more, after coming to Great America for the first time in years I wanted to patronize a place that was unique to Gurnee and not a Chili's/Applebee's/McDonald's. Timothy O'Toole's would work, I guess. The interior is pretty much the same except you have a whole bunch of whiskey and Guinness posters on the walls. The food is okay, I would say if you're going to eat here the best thing would be to get finger foods/appetizers and not a full meal.

The appetizer platter was good, the potato skins were presented differently, more like a potato cup than a hollowed out half potato. The wings are pretty good, not too spicy but good. They have Guinness 250 on tap which is pretty cool. Nice surprise in the land of Big Mac's and Miller LIte. The entrees though were a little bland, but nothing to write home about. The meatball casserole they had seemed interesting but was okay. The fish and chips was pretty good, almost like fish fingers, really big cuts of cod but the chips were fries-I expect big steak fries with fish and chips.

An all right place for sure, somewhere between a 2.5 and 3 but Guinness 250 on tap is enough to bump it up.

Overall, good food, nice atmosphere, a bit pricey, and just "ok" service.

This is a new restaurant/sports bar (opened early 2009) in Gurnee, IL (between Gurnee Mills and Great America), though there is another location in downtown Chicago since 1992.

The bar area is big and has plenty of seating and boasts 19 beers on tap. There are also more LCD TV's than one can count. The restaurant area is also pleasant and open and there are even more LCD TV's in that area. We were there during March Madness, so there were plenty of gamets to view, along with a NASCAR race.

Kids eat dinner free on Thursdays and there is a balloon artist in the evening!

The restaurant served brunch on the Sunday we went, but I'm not sure if that is an every day thing. There was even a "make your own bloody mary bar!" The brunch selections looked awesome - oatmeal pancakes, stuffed french toast, yogurt parfaits...yummy!!! I chose to eat off of the lunch menu, which even in its abbreviated state had many great choices.

Our table tried the Chopped Salad ($12 for entree portion), kid's cheese quesadillas ($5), cheeseburger ($8), fish & chips ($12), and goat cheese quesadillas ($8). Everyone seemed to love their meal except that the cheeseburger was just ok. I had the chopped salad, and while it was great I did feel that $12 was a bit steep for a salad. Service was a bit slow, but could have been because it was a lunch on Sunday, or just because the restaurant/staff is new.

I definitely would recommend this place based on food and atmosphere, just make sure you're not in a hurry.
