Definitely love the feel of urban solace. Like the name states it's urban. It can be hard to miss from the street since the sign is so small but it looks like a little house. The interior is beautifully decorated and has a very nice simple ambience. I liked sitting outside in the patio. It wasn't too sunny.

My friend got the veggie burger and she was in love with it! I got the pork belly benedicts. I wasn't really a fan of it. It tasted alright. I'm sure the other things on the menu are good though. Just the pork belly and benedicts had too much of the same texture so it was kind of mushy. It was definitely different though. Service was excellent. The waitress made good recommendations and checked backed on us every so often and filled our waters promptly without being asked. The drink selection is also substantial. Nice for a get together or some one on one time. It's a relaxing quiet place.

GET THEIR BURGER. WITH EVERYTHING. Seriously, it's on my top ten list of ultimate favorite burgers ever. Possibly top 5.  I don't know. But I do know that it's good and I want it right now.  My boyfriend got it and and all I got was 2 bites and I'm sad that I didn't order it, but I will next time. And the next.

Anyway,  I got the EBLT, which was good! But I can't stop thinking about that burger. D: Their fries are good too!  I also tried my friend's grilled cheese & tomato soup = two thumbs up!  Can't wait to go back for that burger!

Honestly, there are no words. Just go there and order one of everything. You can thank me later.

But if you don't order one of everything just make sure you get the biscuits. I'm serious.

WOW. I think I've found a new favorite destination to put on my weekend brunch rotation. It's been two days since I've eaten at Urban Solace, yet I'm still dreaming about my experience. My mouth is still drooling, too.

After running a very hot 5k race on Saturday, we were ready for some post-race sustenance and had made reservations at a neighboring restaurant for brunch. Unfortunately, when we arrived at that particular destination, parking was not to be found anywhere; therefore, we frantically broke out our Yelp apps to search for an alternative nearby. Luckily, Urban Solace popped up and I remembered it being among the many bookmarks in my archive. So, off we went.

At around 12pm or so, we walked in and were immediately seated. Not crowded at all. The exterior architecture gives off a French-like aesthetic. The focal point of the interior is the very large, beautiful bar that sports impressive seating. The artful display of the spirits is absolutely gorgeous. What's left of the space is the dining area; it's rather small, but it's been thoughtfully designed and laid out.

The "Blunch" menu is impressive, showcasing selections that are so tantalizing that it makes it almost impossible to make a decision. After mulling over the menu, we finally decided to start with the

    * WARM CHEESE BISCUITS w/ Orange-honey butter and smoked tomato jam ($5.75). Quite possibly some of the best biscuits I've ever experienced. The biscuits are thick, and the cheese that is baked into them contrasts beautifully with the sides of orange-honey butter and tomato jam. I seriously could have made a meal out of these alone. I gravitated more towards the honey butter, but my brunch companion adored the tomato jam. Staggeringly delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about them.

For our main entrees, we selected the,

    * QUINOA VEG BURGER ($11). I'm a quinoa slut, and believe me when I tell you that this rendition of a veggie burger using quinoa delivered on every level. In addition to the tasty accompaniments of bib lettuce, aged cheddar, and tomato, it sat on a delicious brioche bun that was lightly brushed with a house burger sauce that was absolutely heavenly.

    * GRILLED ALBACORE TUNA SANDWICH ($14). It's served by default rare, but my brunch date asked for it to be medium. And that they did. The lemon aioli it was served with was unique and flavorful (I tried some). A stellar sandwich.

By the time we finished we were both in a food coma. A long nap was definitely in order. I really can't wait to return to Urban Solace to try out the other menu items. I'm now one of their biggest fans, for sure.

A very good meal at a reasonable price. I had the hangar steak, and my wife had the salmon special. Mine was excellent, my wife's was better. The real reason I yelped this place was the Pot d' creme' desert. The best desert in North Park, hands down (and there are 2 desert places within 2 blocks of there).

Reservation system on Opentable didn't work and they ran out of Hash...boo....

    -1 star for above.

The exterior is cool, and they have music outside.

I love the whole ambiance of this place.

I was lucky and got to try the Duckaroni for breakfast.  YAY!

This place could be more aptly named Hipster Solace as they were in abundance on the day of our visit. I am almost positive that our server was wearing glasses without lenses. I also believe that I heard him utter the words "over it" at least twice.

That being said the food is outstanding. We shared an appetizer and my date had a veggie burger that I refused to try. It did look delicious. I had a grilled cheese with tomato soup. The grilled cheese was amazing and the only problem (if you could call it that) was the over abundance of cheese. The soup was delicious and the fries were ok. Maybe a little too oily but still tasty especially when paired with their buttermilk blue cheese dressing.

I drank an Iced Tea but my date had the White Sangria which we both were really happy with.

The ambiance of the place is what makes it so cool. They are cool without trying to be too cool. The local beers are great choices.

I took some family there.  We ordered a range of food; everything from the beef cheeks to the meatloaf and sea bass.  Everything was cooked perfectly.

I highly recommend Urban Solace.  Everything from a date night to a family dinner is great there.

Service was great. Food (we tried the chicken and dumplings and pot pie of the day) was amazing! Wish I had tried the peach cobbler, but I was too full from eating ALL of my dinner!

Wow! Best dining experience in quite some time. Ate here with my family from out of town and we all left very impressed! Highly recommend sitting outside on the heated patio and giving yourselves ample time to study the beer and main menus. There are a lot of choices, and in this case, it's a good thing!

Service: knowledgable and friendly staff. We followed recommendations for beer, entrees and desserts. Everything recommended was accurately described and delicious.

Food: Tough decision, everything sounded so good. We ended up selecting the beef cheeks (so tender), chicken and dumplings (rich and savory), lamb meatloaf (no ketchup needed), farro sauté (barley-like grain with a nice cream sauce), and all shared a side of duckaroni. Surprisingly, the duckaroni was the only disappointing item.

Dessert:  Salted caramel pot de creme and peanut butter cup. I'm not really a dessert person, but enjoyed both.

Beer: fantastic local selection in both the draft and bottle categories. Had a cherry sour and an oatmeal stout.

I came here for a little Masterchef event.  It was held in the patio area which I really liked.  Loved the lights and the feeling that it gave.  It's not like the tables and chairs are the most comfortable but it felt like I was in someone's backyard enjoying good food.

The server was nice, friendly and patience with us.  I'm sure it was a bit hard running around catering to all the hungry people and serving the Masterchef's contestant's food as well.  They did a good job!

I got food off their "Comfort Hour" menu! Heh, loved that it's called comfort hour instead of happy hour.  The food is very reflective of that.

My friends got the burger which I don't remember all the things on it but it was pretty flavorful and cooked well.

I got the Pork Belly Sliders.  These were quite good.  Loved the herb puree/pesto.  Definitely brought out good flavors and the pickled onions added a nice kick to the fatty delicious tender pork belly.  And they use their cheddar biscuits instead of mini burger buns or brioche or whatever else other places serve their sliders with.  I really liked how different it was.  The texture was nice and crumbly with the salty bite of cheese and it worked well with the pork which surprised me.  I loved these!

And we also split a duckaroni (was that the name?). Pretty much just duck mac and cheese, but it was good good!  I couldn't find much duck but maybe 'cause my friends took it...jerks. But what I had was tasty! Loved the creamy cheese sauce and the crunchy top but what sold it for me was the straight up cooked garlic cloves hidden in the mac and cheese. I love garlic and just to bite into it to balance out the creamy mac and cheese, so so good.  I'm definitely doing that when I make mac and cheese at home!

The prices for comfort hour are great for what you get.  Some good stuff!

Would definitely love to come back!

"We are folks who love tasty food and even better service.  It is what inspires us every day and keeps us looking to innovate and create memorable experiences."

This describes Urban Solace, and they deliver on that statement without a doubt. "Urban Solace" is truly a comforting place within the city. The feeling of the restaurant is unpretentious, but gives off a sense of 'welcome". The wait staff are friendly and obviously have been regularly educated on all of the food offerings and the many nuances to each dish. And the food seems to redefine 'comfort food' based on all the great ingredients available nowadays.

    No disappoints.

I like this place a lot ! I came here with my girlfriends for a Sunday brunch and we chose the lovely option of sitting outside :) they had a live band while we were eating our food and sipping our drinks in the sunlight :) absolutely gorgeous ! The Monte Carlo is absolutely delicious ! Will come again - for the ambience and the food

I wanted to like Urban Solace more than I did.  Cool vibe to the place, especially outside.  The beer and cocktail menu is, as one may expect in San Diego, strong and offers a nice selection of craft and artisanal beers, including good local options.  We tried two appetizers, which were interesting. The yellowtail tartare with chimichurri was an interesting spin on a raw fish standard, while the mustard crusted sweetbreads are a must for all your brainiacs.

The main course was ultimately the undoing of Urban Solace for me, with the beef cheeks coming out as a confused plate with random piles of fatty meat (or cheek, if we want to be precise) sweet potatoes, and some other barely identifiable add-ons.  This was a plate that seemed to be devoid of restraint while not benefiting from its excess.

This is probably a 3.5 star review if such an option was offered.  I could be convinced to give it another try, and I wouldn't be against recommending it.

How can you not love a restaurant that has a giant picture of Ron Burgundy hanging above the bar??

Been here a few times for brunch, keep coming back because the food is amazing.  The maple bacon is sooooo good.  Portions are on the larger side and very rich.  Try the biscuits and gravy - you won't be disappointed!

Good for groups, large bar area.  There's covered outdoor seating available as well.  Service was efficient and friendly.  Haven't had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table yet.

Haven't had a chance to try their dinner yet but the menu looks pretty impressive!

Urban Solace is one of the better New American food restaurants in San Diego. I like the small and intimate nature of it. The food is consistently delightful.  They also seem to change their menu often, which is nice for the repeat customer.  Remember to make a reservation if you plan to go on a popular evening. They are frequently full.

The second time I came to Urban Solace for brunch was the day after the first time I came to Urban Solace for brunch.

I'm writing a review for a place closing in on 2k reviews, while I often skip places that have over 200.

Writing this is making me sad that I will not be back in SD for several weeks.

If you have not figured this out by now, this shit is excellent. I have a deep love for country gravy and hashes. They do these, in my opinion, particularly well (with a single exception of a bad soggy hash day). Go eat the cheddar and chive biscuits with gravy and the pork belly hash. Go. Go now.

Now, we must venture into the bummer section of the review. They play bluegrass on the patio, which is fine, but the acoustics are bad, sound checks not seemingly common, and it can be a bit loud/distracting. Also unfortunate is the regular potential for a 20+ minute wait for brunch. Finally, some things fall to what I would consider the slightly-overpriced column. Notably, the bar menu has some funny, made up prices.

Regardless, my original advice stands: Go. Go now.

Snuck away from work for an afternoon delight here. I couldn't help but be amused at the title for the ahi tuna sandwich...RARE ahi tuna. rare? Is it from the exotic tropics of Tahiti? Yea, I was a smart ass about it but the waitress played into it.

Also got the blueberry lemonade which was refreshing for the hot day but it was a bit too syrupy but that's what I get when I have to stir my lemonade.

The sandwich was a good size. The tuna was all so silky smooth and the fries accompanying my sandwich is a starchy addiction.

I ordered the coconut tart to go and that was a mistake. Delicious as ever when I ate it, but the mango sherbet ended up being a soppy mess at the bottom of the box. Boo hoo, someone dropped their ice cream.

    Beef Cheeks: tender and juicy.
Hanger Steak: perfectly cooked. very tender.
Sea Bass: cooked very well. a little bit raw on the inside, but acceptable.
    Lamb Breast: delicious.

Service was great. Nothing bad about it really. Food tasted good too.

Complaint: quantity for price (about five small pieces of lamb for around $25). weak cocktail drinks. (had to buy two rounds). weak beer selections.

Ate here today for the very first time. Had lunch with my friend who had eaten here before and recommended it heartily.

The place wasn't busy when we arrived; we were seated promptly and our waitress came over directly to take our drink orders. I had a glass of chardonnay - "Butternut," I think it was called - and it was delicious. My friend had a Merlot and I could tell she liked it because she drank it down in no time flat with a satisfied look on her face. She ordered the veggie burger: "Delicious," is how she described it. I had - and I'm not even exaggerating - one of the very *best* sandwiches I've had in months.

It's their version of a BLT - they add a fresh fried egg on it and it's served on the most outrageously flavorful bread! My GOD, that is one awesome sandwich! (Even IF I blew the diet eating it!)

The place itself has an open, rustic feel to it; you can sit either inside or out. We chose inside today because it was a bit humid out and, also, the interior of the place looks a bit more comfortable than their courtyard area.

The service was very good. Our waitress made sure we were happy with our food and drinks; she did *several* check backs (at most places, I feel lucky to get one) during our meal, which, I have to say, is *always* appreciated.

    Overall: Highly recommended.

Boss-lady status, attending a conference in SD, I was in desperate need for restaurants other than the usual touristy spots in downtown. A friend originally from the area suggested I checkout North Park and I took her up on the suggestion - interestingly, Urban Solace was not on her list of restaurant reccs & who knows why the eff not - such a fail on her part & I'm glad I did some research and found this little gem.

Urban Solace is true to its name - a lovely respite located along a pretty busy street. I loved the earthy decor inside but as the SD weather was sunny but crisp, I decided to enjoy the fresh air on the patio. Loved that they had ample space between tables, seating was comfortable despite being typical patio iron, and they were doggie friendly.

Service was friendly and attentive - thanks, Sarah S! I didn't get too festive with my beverage choice (solid staple of iced tea @ $2.75) but they do have an entire drink menu with a laundry list of festive alcohol and non-alcoholic beverage choices. I overheard a gentleman at the table next to me order some "housemade horchata milk" and it sounded delish. I'll have to try something from one or both lists next time.

The food choices at Urban Solace are expansive, each with creative names and a homemade, comfort-food feel to them. Sarah noted the specials of the day - they have a soup of the day and a pot pie of the day that changes - my choices were a cold gazpacho and a duck pot pie, respectively.

However, I decided on the Monte Diego - their take on the classic Monte Cristo. The Urban Solace version offers ham, grilled onions, pears, and cheese sandwiched between two thick slices of bread dipped in custard (grilled not fried) and dusted with powdered sugar. Holy eff. It really was a happy balance of savory and sweet perfection. A definite must try and served with their kennebec fries (skin on) that were just the right amount of crispy. At $10.50, this Monte was a generous portion and well worth the price given the high quality of ingredients.

As the last stop on my self-designated foodie tour of San Diego spots, I can definitely testify to have found my own little Urban Solace - pun intended - here. This place has earned a spot on  my list of re-dos whenever I visit SD.

We didn't love it and we didn't hate it. It got more of a "meh" response from the group.

Went on Derby Day and they had no mint juleps. I personally got the pork belly benny which turned out to be under seasoned. My friend got an under seasoned veggie benny. My boyfriend got the kitchen sink benny which he enjoyed but he could literally eat everything including the kitchen sink and be happy.

Best part of the meal? The bacon and grits.

Came here for Sunday brunch. Wasn't too impressed, I think I'll have to come back for dinner as that menu looks more promising.

Was told that the wait for a party of 4 was about an hour. I was called back within 15-20 minutes (was around noon) which was a pleasant surprise considering that there isn't a lot of seating.

The service was very friendly and checked on our table regularly which is not as common as you would think for a place of this size.

We started off with the famous cheese biscuits. Served with a side of butter and tomato jam, it was pretty good.

I had the pork belly benedict. Each part of the dish was good, but there was something missing. The pork belly tasted as good as I would expect something that fatty and moist to be, but even that seemed under-seasoned. And I am usually the one to complain about things being too salty so I was actually sort of surprised to find that something that looked so mouth watering tasted rather bland.

I had a cup of their sumatra coffee and it was rather light and watered down compared to the full bodied brews of sumatra I've had from other places. Not a huge deal and definitely not a deal breaker. It's just coffee.

I don't think I would come here again for brunch, but I do want to return for dinner and drinks. I really like the look of the place and the service, but the food just wasn't great my first time there.

Food is nicely presented, and the taste is pretty good too.

The sandwiches/burgers come with fries (they no longer serve sweet potato fries).
These fries are super crispy and seasoned well.
Try dipping the fries in their buttermilk blue cheese or this sweet sauce they have.

Highly recommend the EBLT (if you like eggs) and the Monte Diego (if you like French toast bread).

To drink, try the Crispin Hard Cider - very refreshing!

Warning: you can easily drive by this restaurant - it's near the corner of University Ave and 30th St, right next to True North.

FREE parking can be hard to come by without walking a mile, but we all need the exercise anyways...

I LOVE Urban Solace! Such at great date location too...wink wink!

I have been here on several occasions - dates and in a large group for a bachelorette party. Date night was very romantic. The food was delicious. I ordered the lamb meatloaf and my gf ordered the chicken and dumplings and had an order of the biscuits too. The tomato jam went really well with the biscuits. I highly recommend that.

The staff was excellent with the bachelorette party as well. We ordered the cheese and meat board, which was good We had a large party (of 7) and it was perfect. I had the duck confit and it was so good that I left my plate clean. The duck was very juicy. I also tried the pork belly, which was also amazing.

Also, if you are a ginger beer fan, you have to get the stormy ginger!

Two things I need to come back for:

    1) Bluegrass brunch
    2) Duck mac n' cheese

A few friends and i decided to have a late lunch here before walking around the North Park Art Festival.

The space is beautiful a little hipster and little casual, more importantly welcoming and comfortable.

We decided to share the EBLT (egg, bacon, lettuce, tomatoe) with avacado, their famous duckaroni, and corn pudding.

The EBLT was AMAZING. Two thick slices of toasted soft bread, runny egg, thick cut crispy bacon and ripe tomatoe. It came with really good fries (the ones you know came from real potatoes).

The duckaroni lives up to its reputations. Elbow macoroni in a rich creamy sauce with WHOLE PERFECTLY ROASTED GARLIC, and LOTS of tender duck.

The corn pudding, nothing spectacular. Just a bland cornbread with corn in it.

I did see a seared rare albacore tuna sandwich that i would like to come back for next time.

Finally, I can say I've been in North Park. Who knew it was so close to Hillcrest and Balboa Park?

The patio is simply lovely, and the menu is top-notch. I took my college buddy here for a weekday lunch to celebrate his brunch. We were not disappointed.

You must get the cheese biscuits.

After that, I'm sure it's all good... he ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich, while I opted for the pork loin sandwich. Cool beer/drinks menu, and lovely service.

It's a rare occasion that I can ever get my birthday off and after 6 years, I finally got it off and it landed on a Saturday! That was enough reason to celebrate and what better place to go than Urban Solace! Comfort food at it's finest! Their cheese biscuits and their chicken dumplings are a must order The dumplings melted as soon as it hit your mouth and the biscuits with its orange-honey butter, were the best!

For my birthday dessert we shared a Berry Milk Cake and the Salted Caramel Pot de Creme, absolutely delicious. The cake was warm and enticing, where as the Pot de Creme was much sweeter and decadent.

Thanks Urban for a great birthday dinner!

Great spot in North Park. Good craft beer selection, which is a must in San Diego. We sat out on the patio which provides a good atmosphere. The menu has a lot of interesting items, each with unique side dishes. It was a struggle to choose one. I ended up with the chicken and dumplings, which was a solid choice. A little pricey, but worth it overall.

Advice: Take a date here. She'll think you're cultured, especially if you mention how you chose Urban Solace because of your passion for organic, locally sourced ingredients. Urban Solace FTW.

Boyfriend took me here a year ago for our first date, and we returned this past Friday night for the second time. I love the ambiance here, not too fancy but not too casual. Dim lighting with cool art all around the restaurant, including a portrait of Ron Burgundy smack dab in the middle above the bar! So awesome lol

We both ordered the exact same thing we did a year ago, the bacon stuffed trout (it used to be bacon wrapped) and the salmon with quinoa (OK we  mfd cv v  were trying to be semi healthy with the fish at least haha). Both were very good but to me, nothing beat the side of Duckaroni that we had as an appetizer. AMAZING. Comfort food done right. It's duck mac n cheese and its BOMB!!

After dinner, we contemplated for about 10 minutes on whether to order dessert or not. I finally gave in and chose the salted caramel pot de creme topped with a dark chocolate ganache layer. UM, HOW GOOD DOES THAT SOUND? Well, it tasted AMAZING. Didn't taste the salted part so much, but the combination of caramel custard and dark chocolate just melted in my mouth. AH SOO GOOD. I regret not licking the jar clean.

I need to come back and try their brunch! And for more duckaroni.

Urban Solace is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. It has a gourmet feel while still managing to be casual and fun. I've been here about four times -- three dinners and a brunch -- and I've never been let down.

We had dinner at Urban a few weeks ago for my sister's bachelorette party, and everyone absolutely loved their meal. I had the duck confit and was blown away by the delicate flavors and presentation. Some of the other ladies ordered the burger, steak, and pork belly, and we were all very happy. We also ordered their butternut squash goat cheese dip and the duckaroni for the table -- both were so tasty and delicious.  In general, their servings are medium to large, so be prepared to be quite satisfied as you walk away.

Lastly, the service at Urban was great. Our server (I believe his name was Tony) was friendly and attentive but didn't unnecessarily hover. He really helped create part of the fun atmosphere for the evening.  We loved our experience so much, we came back for brunch the next morning, which was equally fabulous.

Overall, the food is fantastic, the service great, and the atmosphere fun. I go to Urban Solace every time I come back home to San Diego.

Urban Solace definitely embodies American COMFORT FOOD!

I'm visiting San Diego for a couple days and had a lovely dinner with my parentals (to celebrate Mother's Day) =)

    [decor]
Urban Solace is very rustic with a bit of artsy flair. If you're outside
(<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-solace-san-diego?select=BEq49aL-JVzoKxboFaMvbA#59ABxqCkU9cY-afK6Mwmdg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) you wouldn't have guessed that this place was cute and kitschy. Cute pop art on the walls, succulents in old-school pipes and distressed wooden tables.

    [devour]
SOUP OF THE DAY: MUSHROOM SOUP ($3 cup, **5 STARS**) was quite amazing! If you love mushrooms, there was a generous amount of that in there! There was a fried Parmesan slice placed on top of the soup. It was also drizzled with a red oil for flavoring. The soup was quite rich and you tasted that in every spoonful you devoured. Although it was a warm, sunny day, I didn't mind having the soup (and I wouldn't mind ordering this again!) (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-solace-san-diego?select=BEq49aL-JVzoKxboFaMvbA#JdL5Ds7bqbFan49_L-MSDQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)

CHEESE BISCUITS ($5.75 for 5 pieces, **3.5 STARS**) every single yelper I knew highly recommended these biscuits and I thought they were decent. They weren't the best I've ever had, and was not even worse. But I think what made these biscuits good was their two spreads (1) smoked tomato jam and (2) orange-apricot-y honey butter, which amplified the biscuits to another level. If I were to consume those biscuits alone, it would've been just 3 stars. BUT, with these spreads, I would give it 3.5 stars for that added "oomph". It's definitely worth trying if you're visiting the restaurant the first time. (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-solace-san-diego?select=BEq49aL-JVzoKxboFaMvbA#sjPMXtjNvPaejZUomY-wuQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)

WILD SOCKEYE SALMON ($25.50, **4 STARS**) was cooked a bit almost to the overdone, but not so much. The flavor of the salmon was delicious. You can't beat any wild fish! The dish was paired with roasted veggies (broccolini, carrots) and was placed upon a bed of toasted red quinoa. Was a definite pleaser amongst my table. I wouldn't mind ordering this again! 10 oz. HANGER STEAK ($21.50, **3.5 STARS**) was cooked rare (and was delivered rare as requested). The aged-meat was sliced and char-grilled to perfection! The dish was paired with grilled broccolini and a corn pudding on the side. Both sides were just as delicious. No complaints here! DUCKARONI side ($10, **3 STARS**) As much as the Yelpers have mentioned that the duckaroni was something to devour, I must digress and didn't see what the fuss was all about. (Sorry!) I liked the fact that I got a huge chunks of duck embedded within the dish, but I just didn't get that there were some greens within the dish. I also wished the dish had a thicker sauce. It seemed a bit to saucy for me. (But that's just me). It's a decent dish, but nothing I would pine for. [service] (**5 STARS**)
Was impeccable! I was running a bit late (due to traffic) and was glad that the resto was able to hold my reservations after I had given them a heads up. Our water glasses were always filled and we were always checked up on with the staff. No complaints here! What's even nice is that they gave all the Mother's who dined there a lavender-infused bath salt!

Overall, Urban Solace would kinda be a restaurant I can see in Portland. I'm just going off of the food and atmosphere for that though. This place would be great for dates or just hanging out with friends. If you're in the mood for good ol' fashioned comfort food with a slight twist, Urban Solace is something you should consider!

There are so many places in SD that have a cool vibe but offer mediocre food. Urban Solace is one of those places.

    - My drink (fruity and non-alcoholic) was tasty and refreshing, but not worth 5 bucks, since it mostly consisted of ice. For $3.50, it's a yummy drink that I would get again.
    - The WILD SOCKEYE SALMON BENNY was just alright. The salmon itself was good but I don't think the eggs benny was memorable otherwise. The slices of pineapple as a side was a nice surprise, but $15.50 is a lot for a benny.
    - The service was okay. Two different waitresses came and asked us for our drink orders.

OK, fries are fries, and most are pretty simple.  There are thin fries, and thick fries, crisp, twice cooked fries, and sort of soft flexible fries.  THEN there are the fries at Urban Solace.  It is all in the coating of spices and flavors on the outside, but DAMN they are good.  Sweet and spicy and just "Give Me More" good.

The pulled pork sandwich was good, my co-diners liked their quinoa burgers, BUT THE FRIES are to write home about!

Whoa!! This place is the 3rd place on my bookmarks since I moved down here summer of 2011. I knew there was a reason I've been waiting to visit them because now I'm In love and I could literally go back every day/week/weekend/month/quarter/year forever or until Chef Matt stops cooking and baking. When I meet him, I might propose. My Boo may get jealous but until he learns how to cook and bake like that, I can't control the pull the biscuits/steak/dumplings/cake/entire experience has over me!

Our server, Dennis, is on my list of best servers ever! Biscuits first, cocktail second-some sort of killer punch-it set the mood for my rendezvous with everything to follow.

Jordan...swoon! He was the absolute best manager? as he schmoozed table after table without really making you feel like he was schmoozing. He just has a really good spirit and made my friend and I feel special, cuz we are!

From arrival to departure, we were treated like the only customers there. I didn't get the name of the lovely British woman that led us to our seats, but she was an angel. She came back to us several times just to see how we were enjoying ourselves and to give us tips on what to eat and when to come back, dishing enthusiastically about the Bluegrass Brunch. Yeah, that was a pun. =))

Ok, now the food: it was beyond fantastic. The end. I mean, seriously, with service like that, the food truly has to be good because it seems like everyone is glad to be working there and takes such pride in what they do there. I secretly began 'stalking' Chef Gordon after my meal that night. Shhhh, don't tell him, plus, I'm harmless. Unless he stops making that smoked tomato jam...oh, I haven't even told you about that yet!

Smoked tomato jam to go with the freakin fantabulous biscuits. Tomato jam I've heard of but s m o k e d?? Craziness. I had to have some to take home and once I ran out, I got mad at my friend for still having hers! Matter of fact, I need to go by and pick some up - I wonder if they'll let me. If not, I may just have to eat there (darn), then take some home with me!

Okay, for real, the food this time: For apps we got the biscuits referenced above and fried green tomatoes.  I ordered the Hanger Steak with baby carrots and corn pudding and my friend had the Pulled Chicken and Dumplings with fried sage...to die for...twice!!! Both dishes were off the chain fantastic but the latter is what made me want to propose to the chef. The chicken is perfection, the dumplings are like little pillows for mini-angels. Found out they're steamed, not cooked in the soup as is the norm. Little details like that make all the difference!

Dessert...dessert...dessert. Coconut cake with sugared macadamias, rum sauce soaked into it and cream cheese frosting. BOMB. So delicious I'm mad at myself for not going back to get a slice because as I write this, it's been 3 months since my first visit. ***sigh***

Went back my bday weekend for Bluegrass Brunch. I know this review is long so I'm gonna make this part short - the cinnamon rolls will change your life! Don't get me wrong, my kitchen sink meal with, bacon, eggs, biscuits
and an amazing sauce was divine but it all started and ended with the cinnamon roll.

I guess I could've saved you all this reading if I just started with the part about cinnamon rolls, huh? Greedo. Yeah, you. Hahahaha. Go to this spot and you will relish being called Greedo, I promise. =))

Every time I'm in the area I make a point of visiting Urban Solace  with my fiancee. I'd go for the cinnamon buns alone! Make sure you get them with the pecan frosting. It costs an extra dollar or so, but it is worth it.

Also, the Monte Cristo sandwich is fantastic and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. They also have live music during brunch on Sunday's!

Surprisingly, I came here at about 4:00PM and there were practically no patrons inside except me. I don't know why though because they're product is so amazing and I guess I was there on a weekday during off hours. They had like 50 things I wanted to try on their menu like the Spiced Maple Leaf Duck Confit or the Burger.

I ended up going with these items:
    1) Warm Cheese Biscuits, Orange-Honey Butter, Smoked Tomato Jam
    2) Skillet of Duckaroni
Both were novel and very tasty to me. I would recommend both which will be more than enough for one person who is mildly hungry. I feel like anything served on a hot skillet is good. I came during happy hour so I got a good deal on these 2 dishes and a beer. Service was great and atmosphere pleasant.

This is one of those places where you wish you had 2 stomachs to eat everything and you'll be wanting to come back sometime. Perhaps I'll find myself returning to this joint after I finish exploring the rest of SD's restaurant treasures.

I last came to Urban Solace in 2011 and I have been thinking of it since.  It was that memorable of a brunch.

What I remembered was their cheese biscuits with their orange butter and their freshly prepared cinnamon roll with pecan sauce.  Both are pretty incredible and you absolutely must have them when you come to Urban Solace.

I'm glad that I was able to come by for Sunday Bluegrass Brunch.  They had some live music in the patio and that was nice.  I was able to try their pork belly benedict and their beef cheek hash with ancho hollandaise.  Both are really good dishes.  Both come with that ancho hollandaise, which gives some nice flavor.  I really liked the fatty texture of the beef cheek hash.  I'd definitely recommend that dish.

It's a pretty solid place for brunch - it's also nice that you can make reservations!
