I always enjoy myself at Acapolcos. Their food is tasty and prices reasonable for the portion size. The waiters have always made me feel welcome. The margaritas are very good and the bar is not intrusive into the dining areas. It is as close as I have to a "comfort restaurant" in the area. I love their off menu roasted jalapenos and the optical illusion art in their lobby.
I wish I was there right now!
My husband and I went for dinner tonight, using a LivingSocial ($10 for $20 of food) coupon. Acapulco's is basically Chi-Chi's, except with tremendously high prices for a low- to mid-end Mexican restaurant. $13 for two microwaved cheese enchiladas...insane. We should've gone to Border Cafe, where even the seafood enchiladas are only $11 and the cheese enchiladas about no more than $8, and the rice and beans aren't canned.
I'm going to get a refund on the second Acapulco's coupon I bought.
Used to be one of our Sunday lunch outings, today was the last day. We are never going back. Seems quality has dropped. I always get the El Paso chimichanga, as its the only thing I found that I like. I have tried the tacos, and did not like. Today I got the taco salad. Um. Lettuce salad is more like it. Ground beef was maybe, maybe, 3 tablespoons. Â Other than that, just a lot of lettuce spread across the plate and a very small tortilla shell. Some cheese and tomato. Awful.. 0 flavor. Â For $9.95. couldn't have cost them more than $2 to make this plate. I was expecting a big tortilla shell, filled with ingredients.. And maybe some salsa topping?? Oh, and some, flavor?? Very disappointing. My friend got the El Paso chimichanga, as I recommended it. Â He said it was just ok. Â On my last visit, I found service to be S.L.O.W. Â Today sealed the deal. I wish there was ONE really good Mexican restaurant around the West Roxbury area, as this one is no longer an option..
Maybe Restaurant Impossible needs to pay them a visit.
The Salsa and mole sauce are the only things to keep.
If I could give this restaurant negative stars, trust me I would. I not only found a cockroach in my food, causing major stomach issues, but the staff was unprofessional and tacky. While I was there, I witnessed staff hitting on MINOR guests and rudeness that cannot be measured. Take my advice and do not come here. Horrible atmosphere. I'm still in shock from the experience.
Review Source:This place is a bargain! I've been to this Acapulcos location a number of times because I work about a mile away. It's a common happy hour, going away party, lunch, etc. spot for myself and my coworkers for a while, even before I arrived... and I know why!
They have a very nice bar with friendly staff. Their food is very good for the price and the portions are big enough that you can easily get two meals out of it. Though I haven't had them, my coworkers rave about the margaritas.
Overall, Acapulcos should be every Newton-dweller's and -worker's go-to lunch, dinner, and drink spot!
I was the definition of a repeat customer while I worked in the vicinity of Acapulcos!
This used to be a regular Friday lunch hot spot for me. Â The steak fajita wrap is one of my favorites. Â
The Combo Dos is also a good bet for the average lunch diner. Â You get 2 choices, such as burrito, taco, enchilada, etc, and the portion size is perfect for lunch.
The ultimate margaritas are fantastic as well. Â They seem to get stronger the more rounds you order!
If you're in town for business, or work in the area and never tried Acapulcos, give it a shot!
Decent Boston-area chain. Â Kid-friendly, large servings, and pretty good service. Â I won't compare it to more authentic places like Taqueria El Amigo or Taqueria Mexico in Waltham, but I do like it better than Sol Azteca - more menu options, better flavors. Â
A good choice for families around the Newton/Needham line.
Food was good, enchiladas, burritos came out hot on hot plates and the fajitas came out sizzling. Â Service was good until time to leave, waiter did not pack our food for us but packed the food at the table beside us. Â Instead he just gave us the containers and we packed our own food. Â If it wasn't for a lazy waiter i would give acapulcos 4 stars. Â I'm not sure if we will return to this location.
Review Source:My friend raved about this place so we thought we would try it. Â I can't say I'd ever go back. Â We waited over 45 minutes for a server to take our order (who we flagged down), refreshing beer took just as long. Â The food did come out quickly but another waitress who was very nice and ensured all drinks were refilled before she left.
I got their combo plate with the chili relleno and tamale. Â Tamale was a bit burnt but the worst was the chilli relleno. Â Instead of a Chilli it was a whole green pepper including the seeds and stem! Â The batter was extremely soggy as well. Â
About 45 minutes after finishing our meal, the waiter dropped off our check, then picked it up again! Â I had to waltz up to the bar to get his attention to bring it back. Â Although the atmosphere is great after-work, the disappoints out weight the social atmosphere.
was just looking for a place for a drink, passed by and thought it doesn't hurt to give it a try. They have free homemade chips and salsa, they are pretty good. The food is in a reasonable price, good for friends casual hanging out or family dinner. The environment is pretty laid back.
Review Source:I've gone here a couple of times for food at lunch, no drinks, and it is just average Tex-Mex cuisine. Service is good and the menu is extensive, but it doesn't blow you away. I've seen reviews here for their margaritas so I will have to try those soon. I will update my review after the fact, but even still, it can't go above a three because the food is just OK.
Review Source:I can't help it, I love this place. I know it's a chain, but I have had consistently good experiences at several locations. I was actually secretly excited to move to Newton because that meant I would be close to their newest location and more specifically their margaritas. Â
This is a great place to go for an affordable but very filling meal. Of course it helps that you start out with a huge basic of chips and salsa. You cannot go wrong with their Chimichangas. - yummm. Â I Love their margarita's - the bartenders never hold back on the tequila. I would suggest the El Presidente made with 1800.
Atmosphere is a little cheesy with the typical Mexican decorations, music and of course waitstaff greetings in Spanish. BUT they can accommodate big groups and they generally have a pretty good waitstaff.
I went in with a friend of mine from college on a mid-week afternoon when it was slow. Â
The service was what one would expect from a slow restaurant; the server was busy doing her silverware and mostly left us to ourselves.
The huge beer option was awesome (I don't think we would have gotten a refill had we not gotten them).
The food was again, what one would expect. Â We both got the chimichungas and loved them. I'm a huge sucker for deep fried anything, especially pork. Â He said his chicken was also good.
Nothing exceptional but exactly as expected, which is nice every once in a while.
I have also been in there for beers after work and they had a decent crowd and we got great service at the bar with a kick a** margie.
We'll be back
Acapulco's is your run-of-the-mill American-Mexican restaurant. Â Their homemade tortilla chips & salsa is great, though! Â The restaurant itself is nice- they have a big bar & TVs if you want to watch a game. Â The staff is super nice, too. Â I had an enchilada with mole sauce- you could definitely taste the cocoa in the mole. Overall, it was a good dinner.. I'd go back :)
Review Source:Food tasted like it was either from a can or from the frozen food section and microwaved. Asked for water when we sat down. Finally got some when finishing our entre. Service was marginal at best. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place. Not at all what we expected based on other reviews. Reviewers must have had several margaritas!!
Review Source:These guys get 4stars from me JUST for putting the Ground Round out of its misery!
Seriously, Acapulco's is your standard mexican restaurant. Â Food is worthy of trying and it could become your regular place. Â Service is hot/cold (wonder if the managers really drive the differences as some locations are much better than this one).
Don't really care for the layout. Â Think they save the $$ by just using what they get. Â Other locations are nicer.
Try it if you're looking for some good, low-priced Mexican. Â I'm betting you'll be back.
The food was passable, but the service totally sucks.
I went here with a coworker for lunch today since its the closest place to our data center which we were working. The service was haphazard and the staff were basically ignoring all the customers. We had to ask for our check after waiting like 20 minutes for it to come over. The best part was when we asked he said he accidentally cleared it from the system and that the bill was 22.45 or something. Then we waited another 10 minutes for him to bring us change which was for a totally different amount then what he said he charged us and included no coins. It was totally bizarre.
The funniest part was when we got back to the data center we asked some of the other people there if they had ever been there. They then told us almost the exact same thing happened to them the day before and that when they were there today they had another bad experience. So apparently they either hate people who work for Childrens Hospital or they totally suck at serving customers. Im hoping its the later.
I wish Acapulcos was better, I really do. Great place to down margaritas. Â Chips are salty and generic. Â The food. Its ok, not the worst I have had, and definitely not the best. Â Everything here tastes the same, and is very salty. Â I usually get the nogales combo which you can get an enchillada, burrito and taco. Â If you are craving Mexican this is about your only choice in the area. Â Good if you are driving through, on your way somewhere else. (Its right off exit 19A on 95). Â Food seems lower quality than it used to be.
Review Source:Located where Ground Round used to be off exit 19A RT 128.
I think the salsa here is spicier than their sister restaurants and less chunky. The food here is OK - I had worse. I don't know if it's me; but I think their Quincy and Sudbury location is more delicious.
The bartender/server/jack of all was pretty friendly and prompt on refilling my coke. Being attentive is definitely a plus!
YAAAAA!! Acapulcos, which I was disappointed it closed in Newton, merely just moved down the street to the old Ground Round right off 128!! I would not even had known if I wasn't passing that area and spotted the yellow/orange building. What a great spot and I wish it luck in it's new location.
I visited here yesterday and the menu is the same and the service is always friendly and great! The location is better and larger then the other, allowing for more room and a better bar area and windows!!
As always the food is very good and reasonably priced and I would highly recommend it! It will surely steal some business from a few unnamed so called higher end Mexican restaurants in Newton!
We used to go to the old location, and I like the new site. The staff have always been very friendly, especially when we bring our kids. The selection on the menu is a broad fair of tex-mex, whilst the food isn't very cheap (but it certainly isn't expensive) there is a lot of it, it is unlikely you'll go hungry. The shredded beef burritos are my personal favorites. The cocktails are good with at least 5 different margaritas on the menu.
The new location has a nice bar area, an area for those with small kids (or at least I assume, as only people with kdis were sat in the room, but it was 5pm!) and a main area for everyone else! We've only been in the area for those with small kids, but we weren't ignored and our waiter was as friendly and helpful as you could ask for.
We'll definitely be back.
The Acapulcos which used to be on Needham Street in Newton as moved to the location on First Ave. in Needham (near 95/128) which used to house The Ground Round. The food is reasonably good for Boston Mexican food, and there is a Children's Menu. The pricing isn't cheap, but is less than Sol Azteca (the alternate closes option to us) with a much broader menu. My Huevos Rancheros was $8.75, but the Burrito and Enchilada plates are $11.75 - $13.25, with seafood and steak dishes a bit more expensive ($15 - $17). There is a Menu for "Ninos" which includes some standard kid's fare (grilled cheese, cheeseburger, chicken tenders) in additon to Mexican options. If you spent as much time at the Ground Round as we did, the place still has some of that feel, but the colors have changed and the decor is more Mexican. This will stay on the list of options for our Sunday family dinners out.
