Speakeasies are a fine idea, but not when you have to pay $18 for a cocktail, especially from a pushy, waitress who looks like she was about to wash and hang clothes up to dry in a Mexican village. I'm in sales, so...dazzle me, talk to me about the place, the drinks, which one's your favorite and why...don't just say, "You can sit down, 'long as you order from ME, not the bartendera". Ouch!

Creative menu, lovely, inventive decor. Good to impress out-of-towners...until they see the check.
Never coming back and certainly never recommending it to anybody I like.

Love. "Farm to table" cocktails using delish local ingredients, created by a hellacious team of mixologists. Delicately balanced, purposeful. The whole speakeasy-prohibition movement in NYC is still thriving, and these guys lead the pack. The crowd is a little funky, depending on when you go, but who cares if you snuggle up to a crafty cordial? Go. Now.

I came here around 7:45 pm on a Saturday night and I'm glad I didn't come any later, because there were distinct crowds entering at 8 pm and 8:30 pm, and by the time I left around 9:45 pm, there already was a line AND a bouncer. My early arrival meant that there was no bouncer and I distinctly saw men wearing flip-flops and there seems to be no problem.

The decor is quite beautiful, and I really love the round-bottom flask chandelier, and the carefully crafted menu and all the little fixtures that make this place look like and old-fashioned apothecary. But I thought the layout of the place was a bit clumsy - the couches all line up in a row against the wall, and since they are 3-seater couches, typically one couple monopolize a couch and then there's all this empty space that would be awkward to share with another party. People also look awkward sitting in a file with their backs against the wall if you're looking from the other side.

Also, the price. Props to the exotic drinks, but the prices are a bit ridiculous. $16-$17 a cocktail? Wow. No wonder the menu has no prices, otherwise people wouldn't try one drink, see the check and then leave immediately. That's what happened to me, and I went to the ECC instead - edgier and cheaper cocktails, plenty of bar seating and French-accented bartender. I rest my case.

I love this speak easy and will always suggest this place to all my friends. Thursday nights are jazz nights and the music i.e. if you love jazz music is awesome and fun. It easy to get into till about 9:30pm usually there is no bouncer at the door. They check ID inside and the waiting staff is very friendly and nice and are knowledgeable about all the drinks. They will help you choose a great drink from their extensive and fantabulous cocktail menu. The reason I didn't give the place 5 stars was because of the bouncer at night. I understand its a speakeasy and there is a password from time to time in order to get in but he is down right rude. I can understand him having an off day but being rude all the time is disappointing. If he sees a guy(s) its pretty much a refusal trying to get in.

First I had to maneuver through the fishy smelling streets. Then I had to deal with the d-bag working the door who wouldn't let me in because I was wearing flip flops. I was there over July 4th weekend and it was HOT so i wore flip flop. I had on nice slacks and a linen shirt so I was not dressed like a slob. Also the city was dead b/c of the long weekend and this d-bag is like I can't let you in. Really?!?!? I was at 3 others upscale bars earlier that evening with no issues getting in. I will never go back and give these people any of my money. I will be sure to tell all my friends not to give them their business. If you are in that area, go to the place next door. I had no issues getting in even after the door man saw what happened. The drinks and vibe were great.

Great place to go on a date and set the mood. The service was great and the employees were extremely nice. They gave great advice on drinks and were very accommodating when it came to price and preference. Highly recommend if your into out of the ordinary and are on a date.

I love this place. I wish I was rich and cool enough to be here regularly but I am not. The drinks are tasty and you don't get hangovers from their mixes. But they will run you $12 or more dollars for each drink. However, the atmosphere is so way cool -- you think you really found a Mexican speakeasy. I have had the Heart of Gold - a little girly -, Greenwich Mean Thyme, Jumanji and The Matador. All were great and I had no hangover the morning after.

The outside of this place looks like a closed down old building. But it's actually a nice bar lounge inside except that it is very dark. We have to use the flashlight on our phones to read the menu. The cocktail drinks were amazing, but it is very expensive.

One of the strict speak easy spots I've been too. DO NOT wear flip flops. The bouncer gave me a straight face and said NO flip flops. I really wanted to try out this place so I went home and changed to sandals. I came back and the bouncer gave me a high five for changing it up. There's a password for Wednesday. Not sure if this goes for every night. I like how they had live music. I wasn't quite wow'd by this place since the interior looked the same to me compared to the other speak easy I've been to. (***)

The drinks were pretty unique and pretty expensive for my wallet. I had the moonshine silver fizz and I can definitely taste the smokey whiskey. It had a strong lemon after taste. The portion wasn't that much and I had a cup I didn't really know how to hold. I kept spilling it. Probably to classy for me. Oh wells. (***)

Service was a bit slow. Took me a while to get my drinks even though there wasn't much people there. (**)

Huge fan of Apotheke. Large bar with at least 3 mixologists (and yeah, they deserve to be called this cause they know their stuff) working the crowd. And the drinks they produce are as fun to watch being made as they are flavorful.

Ended up going on a Tuesday night around 9, shared seats with some random folks from Australia and California and heard the unfiltered history about absinthe from the waitress.

And please try the riddle without cheating. Otherwise what's the point? C'mon guys. ;)

I love this bar! It has a speakeasy feel without the speakeasy kitsch. The bartenders wear white lab coats and devise cocktails based on themes and desires - not your average bar. They also play great music and attract a really fun crowd. If you are in the area, this is definitely a must-see!

I love the cocktails here, and you really cant get them anywhere else. Place may be hard to get in if you arrive during peak hours, but I think they do that to keep the place from getting to crowded, which is great. Place has a good mix of crowd. Also a cool concept, because the bartenders wear lab coats like they're pharmacists. Drinks are always changing on their menu.

Can't believe this spot is so deep in Chinatown, and I have yet to try it out until now! I went on a weekday opening time at 6:30pm, to avoid the craziness since I know the hype about speakeasies. I usually recommend eating some good food around the area, then head over for post-dinner drinks over here.

I went on Wednesdays, so it was their "Prohibition Wednesday" special of the week. The decor and ambiance was pretty damn on point, straight down to the outfits the staff wears, it literally felt like I was a scene in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Their specialty cocktail drinks range from $15-18, and I tried the Corpse Reviver #9 and the Moonshine Silver Fizz, since I like my drinks strong. They were perfectly well blended and had a nice balance of flavor, and the strong liquor wasn't overwhelming at all, considering they respectively contained Absinthe and Moonshine.

Overall, I highly recommended to check out this Chinatown hidden gem out, whether for a classy drink with your friends or to impress a date, I would put this as one of my favorite bars in NYC

Absolutely LOVE this bar. It's a hidden little Absinthe den down a dead end little cobblestone street in Chinatown. It's the perfect spot to come after dinner at Pulqueria next door - but worth the trip even just for drinks and dancing. They have great music, friendly waitresses willing to offer drink recs based on what you're looking for, and top notch/highly experienced mixologists. It's a smaller place and may be a little exclusive, but the doorman Andre is a really nice guy (with incredible style) and we've always had a great experience there.

Swanky. Could barely get in this place, even though a friend was having a private party and our names were on the list. Space is relatively small, but unique and cozy. Loved the chemistry theme, and enjoyed the ambiance. Drinks were delicious, albeit expensive.

Just a few feet away, Apotheke is a walk-up speakeasy.

On weekdays there is a live band (which is great!) where patrons can dance to.

The bartenders are dressed in their white coats.

Drinks are slightly more expensive compared to Pulqueria. Erin M ordered a Blue Mauritius for me and it was $18!

More seating than Pulqueria!

Thanks for taking me Erin M!

I came here one night after a quick Chinatown dinner with some friends trying to figure a place to drink. We went next door to Pulqueria first (i believe that's the name) and then went next door here afterwards b/c...well...speakeasy's are fun haha.

My first impression is walking up to the door thinking - there's really a bar here? then thinking on wow cool live music (Sunday to Thursday). My friends decided to get a drink and we sat to talk a little and enjoy the music. Which i did thoroughly (I love live music).

They grab their drink and (since there aren't any prices on the menu) found out quickly that drinks were 15-18 each. WOW expensive right? Well they are mixed by "mixologists" who sport white lab coats and take time to make your drink. They charge a premium price, and from what it seemed to me, tasted very good.

So 3 drinks at a total of 50 bucks, live music - decent seating. Cool b/c it seems kinda secret (but not really) and it wasn't busy, which i also like. The space is pretty cool looking as well. I had a good time and will take people here to make them feel like i know some special back door into new york.

Take some friends from out of town here and you'll seem super cool!

Apothéke certainly offers the most mysterious & exotic speakeasy environment, with its richly ornate decor and remote location in a chinatown alleyway. Our service was gracious and friendly, and the "chemists" behind the counter effectively channel a mad science intensity as they prepare your prescription. All of the cocktails we ordered were impressively well-balanced & delicious. I liked how prescriptions were organized by desired effect: stimulant, aphrodisiac, euphoric, etc. I did not care for the doorman's guff around our lack of reservations during off-peak hours when many tables were empty. But it did fill up quickly. Well worth seeking out.

So, I happened to be in Chinatown and wanted to hang out a lounge with my girl, chose the Apotheke based on online descriptions. Being a German chemist, I find this to be a very cool venue, with chemist flask chandelier, white coat bartender, old pharmacy flasks in the shelves and all that (and Apotheke is the German word for pharmacy).

I gave it only three stars, because this place is so brutally overpriced that it's not funny any more. Granted, I love their menu and really liked the drink (Dear Prudence), but the fact that they don't even post prices on their menu tells it all. $96 for six $16-18 drinks is pathetic! If they were at least speedy, it might be more tolerable, but they took an average of 15 minutes (!!) to get your drink. The obnoxious bouncer is another turn-off, the dude thinks he can tell you to be more quiet (in a place that is so loud that you get hoarse trying to have a conversation) and threatens to throw you out if you move a chair around. Power tripper.

Positive things: ambiance, Dear Prudence drink, music by LiveFootage (apparently every Sunday?) and being in a somewhat remote corner making wait lines short.

Negative: pricing, service, noise, overbearing bouncer.

I walked away telling myself that I paid two $30 cover charges for an excellent band and $36 for six drinks. Mind over matter.... Go, check out the band, though!

At Apotheke, the whole idea of 'speak-easy'ness has been well thought out and properly executed. The geographical location (in the middle of China town) and the nondescript entrance cloaks whats lurking inside. And don't be fooled by it, once you step inside the scenary changes drastically; exposed brick walls neatly lit by jazz era themed chandeliers, plush victorian sofas and even a steampunk washbowl. Not to mention the scribbled equations on the wall and the taped drug receipts in the bathroom. But what rules the roost are the 'druggist' themselves. Styled in simple straight white jackets, these wisemen are well tamed in mixing precise potions of tinctures to cure whatever you are suffering from. They are friendly and always eager to engage in a conversation.

The menu while not simple, is neither laborious. Drinks are arranged in sections of which relevance or intent is beyond my rationale. However, below each drink on the menu, there is a line detailing all that goes in to it. While I couldn't try more than three, the ones I did were served elegantly to cackling sound of ice dashing the silver shaker and tasted true to their description.

An establishment of this nature is obviously more than just what they serve as people who inundate them are after more than just a drink. And Apotheke excels by not only being strict to its adherence to extravagance, but they also serve it with as much humility and poise as flair.

Came on a Tuesday night with no wait and there was a live band! Intimate setting with dim lighting. The cocktails are strong yet delicious. After all they are made by mixologists in lab coats. The menu is categorized and packed with innovative concoctions. The Dr. Ruth (Health & Beauty) was sweet and bubbly. The Deal Closer (Aphrodisiac) was light and refreshing, and my favorite of the night.

the best discovery in nyc yet! you can't tell the door if the bouncer isn't standing outside, there should be a password to enter. as you walk in, it really feels like walking back a century into the ages of prohibition. the mixologists know their stuff really well and the cocktails are strong and tasty. the people watching scene is amazing.

definitely recommend as a great date spot, large groups is hard given the size of the place. live band playing is a nice touch!

Came here early evening on a Tuesday after Joe's Shanghai. It's a nondescript doorway on the curve of Doyers st. There's a little sign with a beaker hanging near the door.

I guess we went early enough to not need a password. We walked in and it was pretty empty, only two other parties. I ordered a Dr. Ruth, which was AMAZING. The cocktails here are delicious and handcrafted by the "apothecaries."

I NEED TO WRITE A REVIEW!!!!

After dinner with Erin at Chinatown.. We always enjoy a glass or two awesome cocktails after dinner.. I was gonna stop drinking for a month but I just can't help it when I am near Apotheke on a Monday night..

It's always good on a weekday especially Monday because you can always get a sit.. As soon as I enter, I don't feel like I am in Chinatown anymore.. I have been always wanted to try apotheke for a long time!!! Looking at the menu, I ordered myself a Lucky Dragon (something like that).. It's pisco with Dragon fruit, passion fruit.. It's sweet and sour, fruity taste.. Just perfect for me!!! Arh!!! I have never see any speakeasies that come up with Dragon fruit drinks.. They even have a piece of Dragon fruit in it to make it pretty...

You just can't stop yourself from ordering the second drink because it's so damn delicious.. I ordered myself a Deal Closer which is refreshing.. with cucumber, vodka, mint, lime, and some vanilla in it... If it's not a Monday I will probably order myself a 3rd glass already... Oopps.. So much of not drinking for a month.. FAIL!!! lol..

I am definitely/absolutely gonna return here.. I just wish I can just come here everyday to get a glass.. I will probably be broke.. lol.. Drinks are slightly expensive but worth it!!!

Shout Out:
Thanks to Erin for the awesome night!! Started my week with delicious drinks..

Thanks to the chick standing behind us with the password. We almost walked away from the pleasure palace that is Apothéke. Rye and whiskey a flowin', three-piece jazz band with a classic singer in the corner and crazy hot crowd. I can't believe this place is in Chinatown. I am in love with this establishment. I wanna have 10,000 of

As far as really expensive cocktail bars go, Apotheke is among the best.

The drinks are overwhelmingly impressive. The Root of the Earth, for example, with its house-made, beet-infused cognac, rum, agave nectar and other whimsical nonsense, is just flat-out ridiculous. And the Smoked Negroni? Forget it. Kick your feet up and accept how good life here can be.

Like other cocktail bars cut from the same cloth, though, it's vitally important to arrive early to secure one of the plush, spacious, well-attended sofas. Otherwise, you'll be left standing among folks that were too good-intentioned to make this element of their day a priority.

A solid four stars.

Man, did I love this place. What a cool spot.

It's a great place for a date. Especially if you can snag one of the couches.

I don't often go to speakeasy types of bars, mainly because I can't stand paying $18 for a drink. However, this was one of those times where I didn't mind it so much. The bartender took forever making it - not that he was like checking his texts or messing around - he was legitimately making my drink for like 10 minutes. I don't really know how that's possible or what it means, but when I tasted it - I thanked him for taking his sweet time.

To be honest, I don't even remember what drink it was, only that it had strawberries in it. I'm definitely taking the boyfriend here one rainy night. Such a cool vibe.

Just FYI The Prohibition password for APRIL 2013 is "Tighten the Screws," CHECK THEIR FACEBOOK page for PASSWORD each month!! Now, back to reviewing:

I needed a drink, I really did tonight. After 2 weeks of business trip to the West Coast and a long ass work day today, I was stressed out to the point that I was about to explode. So decided to come here tonight since they were having PROHIBITION WEDNESDAYS Evening with Early American Jazz with Classic & Modern Interpretation Cocktails so I thought this would be the perfect way to de-stress and unwind after work with some good music and well-crafted drinks.

I've always wanted to come to Apotheke for a while after having gone to Pulqueria next door (since they're the same owners) but never really had chance to. Finally made it here tonight around 7:45 p.m, gave the 'Password' for entry to the bouncer, and stepped inside. The interior is very hip and hipster-ish for a Speakeasy. I was quite surprised this place wasn't that crowded at this time. Crowd seems like a mix of Hipsters, Europeans, and mostly Locals. Since it wasn't too crowded, it was pretty easy for me to go up to the bar and get a drink. I was attended by one of the "mixologists". I didn't know which drink to get so I asked for recommendations and the surprisingly down-to-earth and UNPRETENTIOUS mixologist gave me several recommendations, and helped me pick out a drink.

I got the following:

Ace of Spades (recommended by Mixologist)
-This cocktail is a modern interpretation of the well know Clover Club cocktail. Ingredients included Dorothy Parker Gin, Fresh Muddled Raspberries, Fresh Lemon, Dry Vermouth, and Egg White. This was delicious and sweet. Definitely a well-crafted drink that went down smoothly and since it contains Egg Whites, it had a slightly creamy texture as well. Good Stuff

Letters to Cuba (I picked this one)
-A combination of Denizen White Rum, House-made Elderflower and Rosehip Liqueur, Honey, Fresh Lime, and Champagne. A citrusy and refreshing Champagne drink that had enough fizz to make me feel good.

I decided to share a table with a Belgian guy who was in town for business. We had one of those deep, yet fun intellectual conversations talking about different cultures, current events, some politics, Europe, New York, Cheese, Wine, Spirits, and in life in general. Smart conversations with superb Jazz being sung and played live was definitely a bonus and kept me happy. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and water was refilled constantly.

Got a bit hungry and in the mood for some munchies. They have somewhat a limited food item menu consisting of Kale Chips, House-made pickles, Stuffed Dates, Traditional Hummus, Cheese Plate, and Charcuterie Plate or a combination of both. Decided to order their Cheese Plate which contained their Daily selection of assorted cheese, served with Fig & Pear Compote made with Red Wine, Honey, and Shallot, Fresh Diced Organic Pears, and House-made Grilled Bread. Their bread was fantastic, compote was high-quality, and their cheese selection was decent although I didn't like one cheese, which was Blue Cheese (YUCK)

Crowd started to fill up after 10pm when the Jazz ended and background music changed to the typical "loungey" music you'll hear at any lounge in NYC though nothing hardcore or super loud. That's when I asked for my check, shook hands and became friends with the Belgian guy, and left the place feeling all happy and ready to take on the rest of the week. New York, thank you for being good to me tonight!! Will DEFINITELY be back especially to try the non-Prohibition PRESCRIPTION cocktails like their much-raved cocktail the 'Deal Closer'!!

So either beware or befriend the dude making the Stimulant drinks at the bar. Because he's one that decides just how many Scoville units (heat factor) your drink will have. More on this later. Stopped by with a friend during the week and things don't really start to pick up till around 10:00. Seating is limited but maybe that'll cause you to walk around and potentially make some new drinking buddies. The music was good and aides in creating a cool vibe while you taste cocktails in this neo-speakeasy. Also, the walls are padded.

I noticed there were 3 or 4 stations set up so each bartender was responsible for making a certain set of drinks. All of the ingredients are extremely fresh as you will see the vegetables, herbs and fruit resting on the bar. They are either strained through a sieve directly into your drink or squeezed out of a bottle, as a very thick looking puree. Yes the drinks are ~ $15, but think about how much you paid for a vodka soda the last time you were out and these well crafted drinks become worth it. Below are a list of drinks that I can recall ordering by name.

Kale in comparison - A refreshing drink that tastes like it came from an expensive juice bar juicer. The ginger and pineapple are distinct and the kale comes through at the end of each sip. You know, its a nice way to ease into the evening of drinking.

The Matador - arrives in a stemless martini glass, garnished with red pepper ring. I would say there is some decent heat to this drink. The cantaloup helps to keep things civil.

The Toma-Teo - So yeah, I think the dude making this drink might have decided to mess with me because this drink is very spicy. I can handle spice and I found it to pretty hot. It may be devastatingly hot for some people, like people that find medium wings or black pepper to be too hot. Its made with habanero and jalapeño so you've been warned. Its kind of like drinking a super spicy V-8 but without the heavy tomato taste because of the use of tomatillo.

The Thin Red Line - This is an amazing drink made with fresh beet juice. It was just a really well crafted drink that looked and tasted great. It had a deep red hue to accompany an earthy yet sweet flavor. This is a must try drink.

It's been a while since our last encounter. Not much has changed but the exterior. This place no longer has the big red sign indicator a chinese restaurant! However, we recognize the wooden doors.

Ahhh it's great to be back here on a Friday night, before it's pack! We got here around 8ish and walked right in, no bouncer, no line, no mess! Straight to the bar and ordered ourselves a couple of strong drinks! The drinks are creative as always and definitely hit the spot! This time around we tried (3 each)
-Bull in china shop
-dr ruth
-sitting buddha
-desert rose
-third eye
-madame butterfly
They were all really good and my personal favorite is Desert Rose.

This place is really chill, a bit loud for speakeasy, but it's good, it's not crowded. The bartenders are very attentive and good about looking out for patrons who needs drinks! Always a pleasure coming here..

First, how to get in:
-There is a bouncer for this bar, so either you need to have reservations, or have some girls, or bribe the bouncer or split your group in pairs (its NYC, you know the deal). Just a heads up.

Second, the ambiance:
-Dimly lit with above average music level.
-There is a coat check inside (can't remember if it's free or not).
-You will probably be standing. There are only a limited amount of couches to sit on, but no biggie, hang out at the bar. It's more fun.
-The mixologists look like mad scientists with their white lab coats. Feels like a chemistry project is going on behind there. It's really cool.
-It's an energetic bar and fun.

Third: the drinks
-Really, have a look at the menu before you go here. The list is really long.
-They truly have a unique list of creative and hand crafted cocktails in this bar. The names are funny and creative too!
-The staff is friendly and really good at what they do.
-It is pricey. Look to spend more than $15 a drink or so.

Lastly, have fun!

YES!!! yes yes yes...

Sexy drinks, sexy performers, sexy sexy spot indeed. We came in one rainy evening to find ourselves transported back to a time and place where Jagerbombs ceased to exist, a place where fist pumping is a fad which will not be named. The female crooner and band were doling out modern day tunes with a soulful jazzy twist. Tunes to the likes of Jamaroquai and other modern soulsters were explored, A+ you lovely vixen.

Epitome of the "MR. MIXOLOGIST" as seen in this hilarious youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/w…

The drinks are fantastic, and original At the $17+ price point they do deliver. To be honest, I had never heard of 60% of their spirits ingredient list. I'm a bourbon and whiskey gal, and they've got plenty to try! I love the obvious thought they put into the entire menu, down to the categories of cocktails from Health & Beauty, Aphrodisiacs, Euphoric Enhancers, Painkillers, to Therapeutic Treatments... though one can argue that after a few these all apply across the board.

One final thing, Cash only! You'll need it for the pricy drinks if you can squeeze past the crowd to the bar. Bring lots if you want to try multiple drinks, which you should!

Maybe I'm growing snootier with each passing cocktail bar. This is something I should probably work on, but now that I do this whole cocktail club thing it's really difficult not to be persnkicketty about expensive beverages! Apotheke's location/atmosphere cannot be beaten. I love Chinatown, I love that Apotheke is located on a cute narrow windy street reminiscent of 1800's Europe, and I love that it's hidden behind an old "Chemist's" sign and super old door calling you back to old times. I love the live music, the seating, and the cool old timey vibe. Everyone you see will be attractive. The service was also a force to be reckoned with -- our waitress was very attentive, sweet, and on point with all of our beverages.

But then the drinks themselves -- were pretty disappointing. Disappointing enough that I really didn't love anything I tasted -- and I tasted a total of 6 drinks. Drinks that were supposed to be delicately balanced were not -- such as the Corpse Reviver, which tasted overtly of absinthe obfiscating the other ingredients. Though, a word of caution, we came on a Prohibition Wednesday when the menu is distinctly different than on other days. After perusing the non Prohibition-Wednesday menu online I decided it would be worth coming back on another day if I were in the area since the cocktails listed there look infinitely more interesting and enticing, but I wouldn't recommend coming on a Wednesday.

My friend and I dropped in here on a whim in the fall. The atmosphere is lovely, even if the place is a little difficult to find. It wasn't too loud, and I definitely liked the theme. It had a prohibition speakeasy feel with a twist.

I ordered the Blood Orange Bourbon Sour, and it was one of the best drinks I've had in recent memory, but unfortunately also hands-down the most expensive. I'm used to the prices in New York City by now, but this was exceptional for one drink. We'd planned on having more, but it just wasn't feasible, and my friend didn't like his drink much at all, and when I tasted it I agreed it just wasn't worth the price.

Overall, I enjoyed my drink and the atmosphere. I'd be wary to order anything other than the Bourbon Sour based on his drink though, especially at the prices. There's not much wallet wiggle-room for experimentation.

Pros: Good music, tasty drinks, beautiful people and comfortable

Cons: If you've never been here, the bouncers are not very welcoming. Also drinks are pricey, but worth it

I would suggest going to this place at least once because regardless of your experience, it's going to be one you remember

HOW TO GET IN WITHOUT A PASSWORD

I got there early, alone. The bouncer told me that Weds nights were prohibition nights and you needed a password to get in. Urm what password?
Feeling sad and lonely, I stood nearby, behind a small wall, and waited for my friend to arrive. It was cold, in the 20s, and my hands felt as if they were about to freeze.
I saw a few more groups arrive, and none of them knew the password and were turned away.
10 min later, the bouncer started walking about and saw me standing there, alone, behind the wall.
Bouncer: Still waiting?
Me: Yeah... so cold... brrr
Bouncer: OK I'll try to let you in
Me: Oohh yes, plsss, thank you!!
2 min later, my friend arrived. The bouncer let us in, as promised! YAY!!!
Well, it was really packed inside for a Weds night. There was no place to even park yourself, even if we were to stand. And it was pretty loud in there.
I felt bad, but we decided to leave.

CASH ONLY

Went on a Tuesday night last week and SCORE!!!

Live music with a charming performer totally made my night at Apotheke. It was totally unexpected. We arrived at around 9:30pm and the place totally got crowded. I loved how Apotheke is so discreetly located on Doyers St that I honestly wouldn't of known that it was a bar if I wasn't looking for it in the first place. There are limited seats so get there early or else you would have to hang around the bar. I just wished the bar wasn't cash only though considering how drinks are at around $15. It limits you from trying out more drinks if you are limited on cash especially at a speakeasy.
