I've passed by this place so many times and just found out this weekend how great it is. The atmosphere is nice, great tv's everywhere, and the steak nachos were excellent. Definitely worth a visit

I live down the street and have been here 3 times - twice for food and a few beers.  I have not run into the issues that many seem to around inflated tips and bad service, but maybe I've been lucky.

Overall, solid place - 3-4 stars.  It's a sports bar and take it for what it's worth - same with Tavern (although tavern has slightly better food).  If you're expecting a sports bar with sports bar-like food, that's what you're going to get at BBG and they do a pretty good job.

I gotta say (and this is generic, not necessarily to these reviews) - I love the people who go to a sports bar and expect The Capital Grille.  These pinheads then get on Yelp and write about it like they're a fine food expert and "gods gift to Yelpers"

It is what it is people - sorry the sports bar doesn't have tar tar and a valet...

    Thanks for reading!

Only received two stars because it has an awesome sports bar set up in brighton center.  Unfortunately the food, service, and drinks have been unbearable in three trips there (three strikes, I'm all done with you).  I really wanted this place to be good, or at least tolerable because of the location, cool local sports memorabilia decor, and ample televisions.  Burgers were overcooked hockey pucks that most likely spent a week to a decade in the freezer.  I waited approximately 15 minutes for a bartender to retrieve me a beer when I was one of three patrons inside the establishment with 2 bartenders on duty.  Buffalo wings were right out of the tyson frozen foods bag.  I beg someone with any form of culinary background to take this place over as its location and decor are awesome.

This isn't a "this-place-is-horrible" three stars. Just like Yelp says, it's "A-OK." I love coming here every once in a while simply because I know what to expect: typical bar food, a typical beer selection, and always an open seat--I appreciate this, as I'm not a fan of shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. It's rowdy enough to keep you entertained, but open enough to have some space. You're likely to find any sporting event on since there are a ton of TVs too. But with that in mind, don't expect anything spectacular beyond just a plain old sports bar. I've enjoyed my visits there, so I'll certainly be back!

Tonight was my first time at Brighton Beer Garden. My friend and I ordered drinks and the chicken veggie quesadilla, which was delicious!

There was a Celtics game, which made the place really loud and overwhelming. Probably due to the crowd, we got our food before our drinks made it to the table. We didn't even complain about it - bars get busy and the food arrived fairly quickly. Our waitress was very friendly and apologized for the delay on the drinks.

Later, the manager came over to note that the food should never arrive before the drinks, and he comped our meal and offered us a gift card to come back in the future. It was definitely a surprise, and was the best customer service experience I have had in a long time!

I will definitely return (though maybe not on a game night!)

They have the best nachos by far BUT even when they are empty its often hard to find a server.

Today, we are here for St. Patrick's Day (Sunday).  It's not crowded which is great- just what we were looking for. They are charging you for a 22 oz Beer but using plastic cups of that clearly state 20 oz on the bottom of the cup! hmmmmm.....

Food is okay service is okay, beer section is pretty good but pricing is a bit steep. It's an average bar.

The convience of BBG makes it a spot I do end up on occasion.  If at all possible, you are much better off going here purely to drink vs. eating as well.   Is the food bad?  Mostly not.  But is it worth your money?  Mostly not.  If you do have to eat here--don't get fancy.  Get a burger or chicken sandwhich with fries.  The fries are good.  But don't you dare try to get anything off the beaten path, it won't end well.  The beer selection is good but the service is spotty so be prepared to hunt down your server, especially if it's during a big game.  All in all, I'll certainly be back when I need a place with lots of TVs to enjoy a game and a beer (or many).  I'll just most likely have already eaten.

    Pros-
    -Easy Brighton location
    -Lots of TVs
    -Friendly staff

    Cons-
-First... why is called a "Beer Garden"? It fits no description of what one is.  "noun
tavern with an outdoor area (usually resembling a garden) where beer and other alcoholic drinks are served"

Price- Not terrible, but not cheap either.
    Food- Mediocre

Not bad if you know what it is once you get there, so I'm not telling you to stay away... just don't be prepared to be blown away by anything.

Maybe the burgers are good? The chili was perhaps some of the least inspired cuisine I've ever eaten, almost inedible: HUGE chunks of semi raw onion and green pepper dwarfed the luke warm, vaguely spiced beans and fairly inconspicuous meat. The chips weren't even that good.
My date's fries were ok- her wrap was pretty bad.
All in all- come for the beer and avoid the food.
(the server was very nice and punctual. No complaints on that tip)

Meh, that is all I can say.

Food is WAY overpriced and not that great.  We paid $14 for calamari - ridiculous!- and it was just frozen rings that had been fried up.  No tentacles, no special breading, so not worth that money.  The price of appetizers are ridiculous.  $15 for nachos with chili, $15 for a chicken quesadilla - are you kidding me?  This is Brighton!

Beer list is decent, not too overwhelming but a good variety.  But the staff is not knowledgeable about the beers and I would not order any mixed drink more intense than a vodka soda.  The keg lines obviously are crossed as we ordered a couple of beers and they were not what we ordered.  The bartender was very good, she tried to find out if lines were crossed but said everything is as it says.  Sorry, I know BBC beers and Lost Sailor is an IPA, you served Steel Rail Extra Pale Ale.

It is tough to get to BBG,  not near a T line and you would need to know how to navigate your way to Brighton Center so I would say don't bother.  There are much better places in Allston/Brighton that are a better value.  I have no desire to make the effort to go here again. Meh.

The service was pretty sub-par. I got a table while waiting for my friends, and the waitress was all over me to order. As soon as my friends showed up, she was nowhere to be seen for upwards of 20 minutes, and would disappear for great lengths of time throughout our visit.

The beer selection was decent, with some variety. I can't complain there.

The food was pricy, and not worth it. The chicken tender appetizer ($10) included 4 middle school cafeteria style nuggets. We asked for 2 different sauces, and got none. We asked two more times but still never got any sauce.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, done medium, and got a regular cheeseburger well done. It was lukewarm, dry and bland. The sweet potato fries seemed like they would have been delicious if they had gotten to me before they became cold and soggy.

I left a low (10%) tip due to the poor service, but when the charge went through on my card, extra had been added bringing it up to around 20%.

Overall, it was a pretty poor experience and I don't see myself returning any time soon.

--DON'T EAT HERE, ATTEMPT TO STEAL FROM CUSTOMERS--

I've been going to BBG for about three years and never had a very bad experience, but after my last visit, I'll never return and would urge others not to either.

This summer I went for dinner on a quiet night.  The place was pretty dead but the waitress was no where in sight.  After 15 or 20 minutes, she came over and asked, in a rude tone, if we were ready to order.  We said we'd like to get some beers first. The rest of the experience was kind of like this with the waitress disappearing for long periods of time, then being rude when she was around.

This part wasn't the worst part (I figured maybe she was having a bad day or something else).  What the worst part was that she ADDED ON TO MY TIP.  By all accounts, the service was terrible so I left a $4 tip on a $42 bill, totaling $46 on my debit card.  When I checked my online activity a few days later, the charge came up as $50. So apparently the waitress didn't like my tip, and doubled it herself when entering in the debit card charge.

Maybe a simple mistake? Well, I called the general manager and he promised to refund the $4 that was added on to my tip AND send me a $20 gift card, which I thought was a nice gesture at the time.  After a month, the $20 gift card never showed up so I emailed the general manager saying 'it's been a month, I haven't seen the $20 gift card you promised, did you send it?'  That was about two months ago and he never wrote back, or sent the gift card.

Long story short, don't go here, super shady business.

Brighton Beer Garden is definitely my pick for Brighton Center sports bars!

This is our regular place for watching football and for an after-work beer. The staff is very friendly, although they can be a little slow to bring the check even on non-game-days.

The food is solid with the exception of burgers not being cooked properly on occasion (under-done). The sweet potato fries are to die for! They always have a good selection of draft brews and even have decent wine available. The bottle beers are plentiful as well.

There are a ton of TVs throughout the place and on game day they are more than happy to turn on a game even if you are the only one watching it. Hell, they even let a Giants fan like me in to watch my games!

There is a pool table and Big Buck Hunter in the back and a jukebox in the front, the bathrooms are always clean, and there is a lot of seating. Sometimes the temperature is a little on the cool side, but otherwise it is a very comfortable place to eat and watch the game.

Great set-up! I went on a Monday night and there was a fair amount of guests at the bar/eating. Always a good sign. Sports on TVs all around which is a big plus too.

A solid place for your favorite comfort foods. I'm a nacho fanatic and I have to say they did it right. Restaurants that pile the cheese on top literally makes me go WTF. Layers people. Layers.

The burger choices look phenomenal and I can't wait to try them!

An impressive beer list to choose from which I found slightly overwhelming since it was my first time. I would definitely go back 1.) Since it's a 10 minute walk from my place and 2.) Great sports atmosphere!

For what it is worth, this palce hase made huge strides over the years regarding their food and beer.

There probably isn't a better beer/food/tv combo location in the area.

Great place to watch any sports game. It's a very nice sports bar that does decent food. It can get packed whenever a Boston team is playing so get there early.  Kinda pricey for the area but still worth coming here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here.

I don't think this place is that bad at all! It's actually quite solid, in my opinion.

It's big, clean, has tons of TVs (good when there are multiple games / multiple sports to watch), AND there's karaoke on Thursday nights. I don't know, that sounds pretty good to me!

Plus, they've got half price happy hour appetizers and one of my fave burgers around: the jalapeño burger! Bits of pepper inside the meat. Melted pepperjack cheese. Fried onion strings. Organic sesame Brioche. YUM. I also really like their fries--regular, spicy, or sweet potato, they're all good.

Gotta dig the different seasonal beers they've got on tap: from the Wachusetts Blueberry Ale (with real blueberries floating on top!) in the summer to the Shipyard Pumpkin in the autumn (complete with a cinnamon rim...mmm). Love that they've got big bottles of Pretty Things, too. AND staples like my Michelob Ultra. I know. I know. I love craft beers and imported beers as hard as the rest of 'em, but there's something about a simple bottle o'Michelob that just does it for me sometimes.

Anyway, it's in Brighton. It's got beer. When the weather's warm, the big windows open up and there are a few tufts green foliage around... okay, so while the "garden" part of Brighton Beer Garden isn't exactly accurate, it's still a convenient spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat and catch up on the games.

Why did I envision when my friend said, "let's go to Brighton Beer Garden" a beautiful outdoor garden overflowing with flowers and a ceiling of ivy that poured delicious draft beer?

I don't know. Because it definitely wasn't. Do open windows looking out onto a parking lot qualify as a garden? Or is this in relationship to that TD garden place? Who knows.  Blame it on my astrological sign, but the only thing I saw that was overflowing at this place were the amount of TV's for the bro-dudes next to us who wanted to watch the game.

Sorry, not my kind of place, but the service was friendly.

Tried it out this afternoon looking for some grease to sop up last night's alcohol and left pretty disappointed. Diet Coke flatter than the Great Plains and served in dingy plastic cups without lemon. My roommate strongly disliked her buffalo chicken wrap, which she described as being gross grilled chicken doused in Frank's Red Hot and crowded by too much lettuce. The fries were sub-par but the onion rings and accompanying aoili were great. Lots of TVs and the obligatory sports paraphernalia and nice, attentive service (we were only one of three occupied tables).

Seemingly only minor problems so why only one star?

As we finished our meals and dealt with the check, a MOUSE scampered out from one of the booths twice. Ewwww.

I'm really a fan of this place!  I've been probably a handful of times and have never had a bad meal.  The burgers are amazing!  Just tonight I stopped in for a Christmas shopping pit stop and got the Jalapeño Burger with spicy fries.

The burger's flavor was amazing! The jalapeños are actually stuffed into the Angus beef.  That mixed with the two layers of Pepper Jack cheese, BBQ sauce, and the straw onions on their organic sesame brioche (buns) made for a absolutely delicious meal.

I found that the spicy fries had a bit too salty of a taste for my liking.  They definitely weren't a good choice to accompany the burger I got.  However, my mother got the sweet potato fries with her Reuben sandwich (which she LOVED!) and they went perfectly with my burger.  So FYI, if you go with the Jalapeño Burger, I would recommend the sweet potato fries as the side.

We also got an order of boneless buffalo tenders (with blue cheese) to start.  They were good, nothing too exciting but good.  If you're looking more for flavor then for heat, then you'll like these.  The buffalo sauce was tasty without overpowering your mouth.  Which I liked, cause I would've been really upset if my mouth was burning throughout my delicious burger.

Tonight was my mother's first time here.  I wasn't sure if she would like it, being predominantly a sports bar.  But she loved it, and said we definitely need to come back with her husband and my brother.

We had a great meal, excellent service and will definitely be returning in the near future.

"Good work aint cheap, Cheap work aint good."

...Read the table tent on the bar next to us.  Perhaps they should take their own advice.

Disclaimer : I only write this review after repeated experiences with quite possibly the worst service I have EVER had. ( a bold statement from someone who regularly goes out to eat ) It is incredible to me that this can keep happening without the management stepping in and doing something about it. It's almost as if they are content with the worst staff in Boston.

On most occasions, we dine at the bar,  (after ruling the wait staff incompetent, sorry ladies) only to find that the service isn't much better behind the bar.  I only go in, reluctantly,  because it is located directly across the street from my house, and each time I think,  ''It can't be that bad, AGAIN, can it??"  Oh, it can....

This particular occasion, my friend  and I sat at the bar, noticed a beer we both loved on tap. Off to a great start. A good beer is hard to mess up, but it is all downhill from there.  We are told our tab total before the bartender asked us if we would like to, oh I don't know, EAT DINNER?? We should have paid the tab and left, right then and there. We had to ask for menus, and then, 20 prompt minutes later he took our order - A Cobb salad wrap, no bacon, and a bacon burger - cooked medium, with a side of Cajun aioli. (Sounds simple enough, right??)

Another 30 prompt minutes go by and our food comes out. No wonder it took so long, well done burgers generally do take longer. They must have been in such a hurry to make his burger that they forgot to put dressing on my wrap (didn't forget to put the bacon on though) all the while leaving our fries in the window to get ice cold, just before delivery, complete with the side of ranch dressing. (Not even the same color as Cajun aioli)

We were hungry, and since no one asked how our food came out, we ate, begrudgingly.  Our empty plates sat in front of us for almost an entire quarter of the Boise game... even after stacking them ON TOP of the beer taps to make them more noticeable. Had anyone asked us 'How was everything?' they would have gotten an earful.  Instead, we paid our tab, and left our feelings on the Gratuity line.

As a quality chef and a attentive bartender, sitting through this experience is painful. I have walked through those doors for the last time, and from now on will be going next door to the Corrib, for better food, friendly service, and for the heavy-handed pours of Jameson.

    * I only gave them one star because zero-stars is not an option.

I basically only went to Brighton Beer Garden because they advertised half price appetizers from 4-6 p.m.  Still, any place that advertises beer is likely to make me pretty happy.

The bartender was pretty good.  She offered us samples of the on-tap beers, which was nice, both because they were decent-sized samples, and because the menus were incorrect.  This was my biggest problem with the place - the beer menu was outdated, so it listed several on-tap summer beers that they didn't actually have.  The dinner menu failed to mention that the bacon cheese fries came with jalapenos and sour cream (two things I don't eat).  Since other appetizers on the menu did mention these things, it never occurred to me that they might be secret ingredients - nor can I fathom why anyone would have put jalapenos on french fries.  Also, it would have been nice for the waitress to mention it, since I specifically asked her to remove both of these items from the nachos.

As far as the food itself goes, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.  It was more or less what I would expect from greasy pub food.  Since that's what I was in the mood for, that was fine.  The nachos are enormous - probably best if you're eating with several people.  The same is true of the cheese fries.  The nachos and cheese fries are essentially the same dish - one had guacamole and the other had tomatoes.  Getting both turned out to be redundant.  The sliders were pretty good, though.

If I could, I'd give it 2.5 stars.  I will probably go back, but I admit that's mostly because it's about a 5 minute walk, and I like beer.

I've been here a few times, as it is local and promises pub food, beer, and many many sports on TV.

I was quite unimpressed with their food the first couple of times. Not terribly bad, but not really good either. You would think a place with "Beer Garden" on the sign out front would have a diverse section of beer. But they really don't, just the standards, which is fine enough but a bit disappointing.

My last visit here was slightly better. Ordered a cheeseburger, it took them a wee bit longer than they should have, but it was very good when it arrived. It was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. The seasoned fries were quite good as well. If only the roll the burger came on hadn't fallen apart, it would have been a first-class burger.

It's a nice setup, place isn't too dark, and the TV setup is great - sight lines to the many different games from my seat at the bar. Bartenders were friendly and efficient.

I had preconceived notions on this place going in, so I expected the worst of the Brighton scene (overserved bro-dudes, terrible service, etc.)

    However I was pleasantly surprised.

Inside is fairly big and plenty of TVs for easy viewing action. Too many bars have terrible TV placement right where people are standing or too low. This place obviously had a sports pub consultant or at least somebody who knew what they were doing with the interior.

Food was pretty good and came out quick. Fish and chips were quite tasty and NOT frozen. Wings were a hit as well. Extensive beer selection.

Service was friendly, attentive, and professional (and cute).

I would come back to catch a game or to grab a pint and shoot the breeze.

Bonus points for signed Revs jersey on the wall, as well.

Unlimited wings + a decent and reasonably priced beer list + seemingly unlimited tvs = great spot to watch the game.

I've also been here for the "nightlife" which consisted of me, my friends and maybe 3 other people. Um....yea. Not going to counting that in my 4 star review....

Every time I review a local bar I feel like I'm going to blow up my spot. I mean, it's not like I'm a fugitive, I'm just lazy, and when I'm not training for marathons or working, it takes a lot of cajoling to get me out of my hood, not to mention the fact that I would never, ever go to Brighton Beer Garden in the first place. I mean, absolutely not.

So who's buying the first round?

When I left Brighton Beer Garden last Thursday I woke up with one of my cats missing, a pitcher of water next to my bed, and really weird looking ankle socks on. I promised a bartender I would "be right back" even before I started doing magic tricks and break dancing. Believe what you want.

Is the Beer Garden fun? I can't decide. Sure you will have a good time but you'll also feel as guilty as you would eating cold hot dogs from the fridge on Saturday morning.

I can tell you the food is horrible unless you order from the Texicali menu which is surprisingly authentic and delicious.

I will also warn you that the rest of the menu tastes a little too much like penguin. And I'm going to deduct a star for misleading the general public and calling this place a beer garden in the first place. A beer garden it is not.

The Brighton Beer Garden is kind of like the girl you date but never take out in public.

this used to be my favorite!!!
no more free chips/salsa?  the menu is so different it's basically a different restaurant... they took so much away!

I left there really sad last night, BBG :o(

Not the most amazing food ever (especially the entrees, but decent apps) but the beer selection is great.

Go for a game and the atmosphere, but not for a date or the food. I love the atmosphere during a big game...you always get a good seat because the TVs are in like every square foot of the place.

We have had a bitchy, unhelpful bartender a couple times but the rest of the helpful, happy waitstaff makes it worth going back.

Oh, Soho, how I miss thee.

This place used to be Soho, which was awesome. Never a bad experience there. Then it became BBG and I leave feeling like I have a child growing in the very bottom of my stomach at lightning speed. I tried to order chicken, and they ran out of chicken. How does a restaurant run out of chicken? I can understand running out of the soup of the day, or maybe even a certain kind of beer, but CHICKEN?

I don't even remember what I ended up getting to substitute, but whatever it was had me feeling like I gained a thousand pounds, and I didn't even eat half of it. Both of my sodas were flat, too. Wiiizzzeeeeak.

Bring Soho back, and perhaps we'll chat again.

This place is decent.  Great place to go to watch the game since they have a ridiculous amount of TVs.  They have a pretty extensive menu at decent prices.  It's not cheap, but it's normal.

The food is usually really good - great burgers, sandwiches, fajitas (yum!) and appetizers.  I recommend the sweet potato dumplings.

I'm not a huge beer drinker so I can't speak to their selection (though it certainly won't rival sunset or the public house), and their cocktails are pretty good.

    The service could be better.

All in all it's a good standby when you want the usual sports bar fare.

I had heard and read that the service here was bordering on brutal, but I decided to gibe BBG a shot anyways as a) it is close to my place and b) I was feeling lazy.

On a Sunday night I don't know why the music needs to be turned up so loud. People are here to watch the game, have a few brews and some food. Also, I heard a few songs more than once and we weren't even lingering. Make that playlist longer. I did appreciate the Van Halen, I didn't appreciate the group of drunks behind me who sang every song. Off-key.

The waitress was really cool and really quick. We had waters within minutes of sitting down (although two glasses were cracked) and our order was taken shortly after. People are right in that a beer garden should have a more extensive list of beers. I wasn't expecting Publick House or Sunset, but nothing on the list was even remotely obscure. Boo.

The food was okay. I didn't even finish my wrap. And I think some of the ingredients were missing. My boyfriend said his food was okay and the buffalo wings tasted hickory-smoked. Gross.

If I come back it will be for pub grub and beers. If this wasn't so close, I wouldn't make the trek.

So, I stopped here with two co-workers last week. We just wanted to have a few drinks and a few appetizers. The appetizers were tasty but the portions were really small for the price.
The bartender is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars. Shelby was awesome!!! She kept telling my co-workers that she had to shut me off the night before because I got all Coyote Ugly, dancing on the bar, raising hell. The longer we were there the wilder the stories got. I think my co-workers are really wondering if I was indeed the life of the party the night before. Thats ok, let them wonder........
All in all, I was disappointed. I expected more for my money.

The name is only one third accurate: it's in Brighton.  Technically, yes, they sell beer, but if you call yourself a beer garden you should have more cool beer on tap than the usual Irish bar offerings people can get at any other location in Brighton Center.  Also, I thought a beer garden was an outdoor bar that sold beer, ala the new digs over at Charlie's.

I was trying to eat a moderatly healthful lunch there on Independence Day, so I got the buffalo chicken salad.  I was served a tired, wilty salad with GRILLED chicken breast that had buffalo sauce brushed on top of it.  That's not buffalo chicken.  Buffalo chicken is fried.  And I know I'm in the minority here, but I can't stand grilled chicken breast--the texture is disgusting unless it's really well marinated or was cut off of a free range bird; frankly I think a number of this country's problems stem from all the grilled boneless chicken breast Americans eat.

The two pros: their tortilla chips are really good, and it's a good place to watch baseball... but not as good as lots of other places I know.

Brighton Beer Garden has a fun atmosphere.  They have a million flat screen TV for sports-types (not me).

The place is huge with tables and booths.  A bar with good beer selection.

It's a bit expensive for bar food, but you can't complain with a bacon cheddar burger with fresh fries (spicy or regular).

The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the veggie quesadillas.  It was $10 and was tiny!  There were four rolled up tortillas with cheese and a few veggies in there - they didn't even look like quesadillas.

On my way to the bathroom (which is very clean), I noticed that they had Sunday brunch buffets from 10am - 3pm with live Jazz.  Gotta check that out next time although it costs 19.95 per person...

Anyway, don't order the quesadilla :p

4 stars for the weekend brunch buffet - $20 for an AMAZING spread... of breakfast food & dessert anyway. I took a star off because the lunch-foods were just some lame veggies and chicken fingers.

Breakfast foods included smoked salmon, mozz&tomato, omelet station for custom omelets, and the usual pancake, sausage, bacon stuff. Decent coffee.  The smoked salmon  & the desserts (slices of various cakes) that really made this brunch stand out since I don't usually see those at too many brunch buffets.  If you aren't craving smoked fish & gooey-sugary cake to start off your morning then you may want to pass.

    Dearest Brighton Beer Garden,

I send the above letter to the Brighton Beer Garden, as it's true.  I went there for dinner tonight, and came out feeling old.

I used to like the old, crowded, noisy bar scene, but I don't think I can stomach it anymore.  Part of it is that I listened to my Walkman (yes, Walkman - I told you I was old) too loudly in college, and lost some hearing, so it's hard to talk with all the background noise at busy bars.  The Brighton Beer Garden is just that - loud, noisy, and bustling.  That's just the way it is though, and I can't fault the place for my own preferences.  It just ain't made for those of us who yell at chilluns to get off our lawns.  So I do not deduct any stars for the fact that the place is what it is.  Just know it's loud.

I found a sort of compromise, which was going right after work, before the dinner and drink rush started.  And for a while, I dug it.  My favorite meal is a chicken ceasar salad (or wrap) with a lemon martini (though after discovering I'm old, I expect it to change to creamed corn and strained peas), and they did a pretty good job with it.  The martini may have been a bit too sweet, but it was still very drinkable.  The salad has always been yummy.

Tonight was different, though.  My salad had too much dressing (yuck), and lacked the lovely flakes of parmesan cheese that always had accompanied it during previous visits.  My friend, who, like me, has always had a positive experience at the Garden found his food inedible (chicken fajitas - overcooked and flavorless).

I honestly think it was an off night.  I deducted one star for both my companion and me.   I will return though, and if I find the food and drink back to its normal caliber, I'll add on one or two.  I'm not hard to please.

I'm also waiting to see if this place comes out with an Early Bird Special.

I've been to this joint twice.  Once was for a Red Sox game and the other was for game 7 of the Bruins playoff game.  Both times the place was packed.

Atmosphere:  Great.  The place is hopping.  The crowd is young and attractive.  There is nearly more mounted LCD than floor space.  The only complaint I had about the crowd is it didn't seem like many people were there to watch the game.  There was little reaction to big plays by the Red Sox which made it a strange place to be crowded for the game.

Drinks:  There's a distinct lack of interesting beer for a place that brands itself as a 'Beer Garden'.  Garden?  No.  Flower pot  left unwatered?  Yes.  Free poured drinks at the bar are better and they have decent sized martinis.  Maybe they're still trying to figure out how to transition from being a NYC knock off.

Food:  Generic and bland.  I've had the nachos and the roasted chicked, vegetable and mashed potato.  The chicken was slightly dry but decent.  Nothing else was remarkable.  The nachos were meh.  I order rice pilaf, not mashed potato which leads me to my favorite category. . .

Service:  They've gotten two big strikes here so far.  I certainly would not plan to come back here for food.  If I could find a good seat at the bar, I would consider it.  Both times the server messed up multiple orders and didn't do anything about it.  One time, when the food came, I asked where my drink was and got a terse, "Its coming".  Well, if I ordered the drink with the food and the food came first, you have a problem.  Myself included, in the crowd I run with everyone has done time in the restaurant industry.   We're the easiest people on earth to serve and we tip like we're at a 5 star joint.  All of us were astounded at the lack of professionalism there.  There's no excuse to mess up that much even if its a new place.

Showed up last night at around 11pm for a couple drinks and some quick food with friends.  It was pretty packed, but it was a Saturday night and that was understandable.  Especially after both a Sox and Bruins game.  We actually found parking on the street, and an open table near the front windows.

Now, I liked SoHo.  It was nice to go to after work for dinner and a drink because it's insanely close to the apartment and was also never ever busy at that time of night (6-7pm).  I had never been there later on at night so I can't vouch for the atmosphere, but I've heard things over the years that would keep me away.  I'm not the Euro-late-night crowd kind of person.

ANYWHO, I hear this place is owned by the same people that own The Union over in Newton Center, which was renovated a year ago and kept it's quality and whatnot.

Moving on, the place was INSANELY loud.  It was not possible to hold a conversation while sitting at the table even while yelling at top volume to my friends.  That was my main gripe.

The women noted that it was quite the sausage fest, but, as it's a sports bar, I'd imagine that the guy to girl ratio was a bit off.  Whatever, it was late on a Saturday night and it was funny to watch all the people that were quite a bit drunker than ourselves make teh funny.

The service was great and our server was very friendly.  She brought us our drinks pretty quickly considering the crazy business of the place.  They have Labatt (Blue, not Ice, sadly) in bottles, and I've been told that the martinis were strong.  (By told, I mean I watched the girl go from slightly buzzed to dancing in the street in about two drinks!)  The food was bar food but much better than I've had in the area in the past.  I had the Buffalo Wings, which were cooked well but not spicy enough.  I heard that the steak was good, which was surprising to me for it being so late at night.

All in all, the place was waaaay too crowded and loud for my tastes, but I'm sure we'll stop back after work for dinner and drinks in the near future and check it out again.

This is Soho without the basement and more banquet seating. None of the old bartenders or servers were there anymore. Service was slow, and you could definitely tell they had to relearn everything in the kitchen. We sat at some tables near the bar, and when the AC kicked on and was blowing in everyone's faces. You could see 12 people move from one side of the bar to the other.

Food wasn't great - I'd prefer the Costco microwavable stuff over this.
They have a lot more on the beer menu than before - but I would expect better selection of beers from a place that calls itself the "Beer Garden." I think I'll stick to Sunset Grill.
