Not too good. There was a quiet atmosphere and the food was below average. We got chip with salsa and queso. It was pace salsa and generic ballpark cheese. The service was average.

I have only been here for happy hour a couple times and I must say it is great for that!  The drinks were 2-4-1 and the apps were buy one, get one 50% off.  The food came out quick just as it disappeared with our group!  The service was pretty laid back and gave us our space while still meeting everyone's needs.

We even met this super awesome lady in the bathroom after talking about duck dynasty.  So you can even meet friends in the bathroom too!  Everyone there seemed super fun and enjoying themselves.  Will definitely go back for more 2-4-1's!

I went here during lunch, and it was a bit slow, but the food was great! I got the french dip sandwich and the beef was in chunks. The fries were great too. I was impressed, and will definitely go here again. Our waitress was very nice and she was very patient when deciding. It did take a while to actually get our food, but when we did it was delicious!

I went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. First, my friend and I waited for several minutes to be noticed and seated - there was not a worker in sight. We almost left.

Finally, we were seated. Despite there being only two other parties, we were seated surrounded by the other people. I would have preferred being spread out a bit.

Our waitress took our orders and left. I ordered the veggie wrap (the only vegetarian sandwich on the menu) with fries, and my friend got the Bulldog Club.

My wrap was basically a salad in a whole wheat tortilla, overflowing with bland hummus. It literally tasted like chick pea paste, not the Middle Eastern sauce I love so much. The menu description promised guacamole as well, but the wrap had only one tiny dollop of guac in one end of the wrap. In fact, all of the "premium" ingredients, like roasted almond slices, were in short supply and only in the very bottom of the wrap. The fries were also very bland.

My friend normally loves sandwiches, and he barely choked down the club. He picked at it over the half hour and didn't finish it.

Our waitress never checked on us after we got our food. She brought the check when we were done eating, but that was it. No refills, no asking if we need anything.

    I don't think I'll go back.

Go here on Mondays! My friend hosts trivia night with a $5 entry fee and a chance to win $$ so we got a group together and headed downtown. The place was empty for the most part when we got there but filled up quick for trivia. They have $1 tacos and I believe happy hour goes til 6pm, how can you go wrong?! Also, if you're familiar with the Good You food truck then you'll know that the food here is good because it's the same people!

While in the area, we decided to try Bulldog bar for dinner. It was pretty empty when we went on a late Thursday eve, but it started it fill up once karaoke started up. We were seated by a shifty-eyed host on the dining-side of the restaurant where we were the only ones seated. Kinda awkward they didn't ask which side we preferred, especially since the whole time it felt like they were shoo-ing us out of the area since the bar side was obviously the place to be.

Our orders were taken and the waitress gave her suggestions for appetizers but we decided on just getting entrées. K went with the rueben sandwich and I for the mini cheeseburger sliders. We both subbed our fries for the small red potatoes. The food was nothing special, though it did come out pretty quick. The rueben was better than the sliders, but to be honest, it didn't take much for that to happen. The red potatoes were salty and may have been a tad overcooked, but decent nonetheless. The waitress was just so quick to grab our plates and give us our checks that it was just an overall uncomfortable and hurried experience. The waitress had our check ready, set it down THEN asked us if we wanted anything else. Well... don't let us inconvenience you! *sigh* After we paid (overpriced, taking into consideration the lack of flavor and excitement in the food), we never got refills and were pretty much left stranded alone on our side of the restaurant, so we left shortly after. Service was bleh, food was bleh, experience was... you guessed it, bleh.

I was happy to find a bar downtown that is away from Power and Light.  I like that it's clean (a clean bathroom in a bar is always a plus in my book) and the bar has a good selection; we went after dinner, so we didn't have a chance to try the food.

After we'd sat there a few minutes, I decided the crowd was ... eclectic.  I didn't feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and like I said, I was happy to find a non-P&L crowd.  We were there on a Thursday, and it was evidently karaoke night... always a mixed bag -- we heard some people who could hit the high notes, and others who loved to scream into the mic.

We had a good time with our friends and the crowd was fun.  We'll definitely go back.

What makes The Bulldog for me is its happy hours. 2-4-1 drinks and $5 appetizers right after work and then again late night. Shots? Yep. Cocktails? Yep. Brews? Yep.  It's inexpensive and convenient, but I would be careful trying to race the clock.

What's new is an updated menu.  There looked to be some old options such as the hamburger and the French Dip, but what stood out where some new appetizers.  I tried the jalapeno poppers which were nice and hot plus filled with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. Another at the table loved the sweet potato waffle fries and the sweet dip.

There's a weekly trivia game and karaoke on the schedule plus they also have a nice First Friday arts celebration for those of you who like to plan ahead.

The bulldog serves food late.  The food is pretty decent and surprisingly they offer a lot of middle eastern food which is nice to come across at a 'bar'.  We have always had great service.  We especially like Amanda, the bartender, she is a sweetheart and a crafty, funky mixologist.

I have visited the Bulldog many, many times. It's a great spot to grab a drink, and the staff are generally friendly. The food is just okay though. My go to dish are the mini cheeseburgers, but I've also had the stuffed jalapeños and baked Brie. I'm not against going to the Bulldog for dinner, but I'd much rather pony up to the bar and enjoy the cool people that go there. Cheers to Bulldog!

Web site led is to believe there was steak.  No steak.  Foos was ok but not worth the cost.  Bathrooms are dark and horrible.  Waitress was good.  We wont be repeat cuatomees

Good 2x1 happy hour but food is not that great.

The owner should step up and hire adequate staff. 2 servers on the floor for a Thursday? Service sucked. Great servers but they're getting killed on tips because management is cheap.

The food is OKAY.  It's bar food.  The staff there is AWFUL.  Every single one of them, even the manager; a-holes.  I don't know if that's their "thing", but it doesn't work well for them.  Been there a few times, was treated poorly every time, and not going back.

You know, I drive by this place almost every day and never think about going in.  I don't know why.  But tonight a group of us met up here for happy hour.

I don't live far away, but ended up hopping in someone's car and we drove.  I know, I should be ashamed.  But for anyone worried about it, they have plentiful parking.  If not in the small lot right next to their building, then in the bigger lot across the alley along Walnut (there's a large Bulldog sign stating that the parking is for Bulldog customers only...you can't miss it).

It was pretty empty inside so we sat in the bar area until everyone arrived.  It was pretty warm, too, so after a while it got uncomfortable.  But our waitress was awesome and the drinks were great.  Lots of great drinks on their drink menu!

The decor was more upscale than your average bar/grill.  Cloth tablecloths and napkins and lots of dark wood and mission-style decor.  Comfortable without being too hipster and a bit classier than a sports bar or grill.  It's a place I could see going back to and hang with friends.

We eventually moved over to the dining area and ordered food.  We got pizza, quesadillas, gyros, burgers, and fried pickles.  What I tried was pretty good.  Bar food, so nothing too exciting.  It was all brought out at the same time and it was all fresh and warm.

I was surprised at how empty it was for a Saturday night, but it was fairly early (7-9pm), so maybe it gets busier later into the night?

I got to watch my Buckeyes beat Syracuse for a spot in the Final Four, so that combined with a cool drink and good friends and great service made for a nice evening.

If it hadn't have been so hot in there, I'd probably give it another star.

I've driven past the Bulldog many times (I was probably headed in the wrong direction somewhere thanks to not being about to keep north and south straight). I've been meaning to come in for some time, as the reviews indicate sick happy hour deals and decent bar food. What's not to like, right? Finally, this past Saturday I made plans to meet here. I parked in the lot, noting that it must be awfully convenient to the folks who work at the Pitch to walk here right after work to participate in that happiest of hours... that's all I noticed, really and because I have never worked in an office in Kansas City, I sometimes wonder what that experience is like... all of this was going through my head when I entered.

What? You don't wish to be privy to my thoughts?

So, yeah, the HH is really kicka$$ and the bartenders are so awesome, that I knew this would be a 4-star review in the making. What's more... the food is damn good, too, for bar food. Fried pickles are perfect here. They are cut into thin spears that are easy to eat and the batter is just right- crispy, slightly spiced. I also had a Margarita pizza (pizzas are $8 during HH), also quite good. They put on sliced tomatoes rather than sauce. This required a bit of salt and red pepper, obviously if you're a spice/salt fiend like Yours, Truly. Crust is cracker style, not usually my favorite, but I do like it as it doesn't fill you like crazy. Hell, it's bar pizza and it's good and that's kind of all you need to know. If I had been drunk, I would have been calling this stuff manna.

Now on to the crowd. At first it was kind of quiet. Fine, it's a Saturday at like 8, odd, but I didn't think much of it. By the time we were getting up to go, I needed to use the ladies room. I walked through a crowd of men, lots of men. I was perplexed. Why would these youngish straight guys who also seemed single all want to hang out with each other instead of being in a place with, uh chicks?

It was like I had stumbled in on a bachelor party.

Later when I was telling this story, the response was one of those eye-roll "DUH JOI" moments that I've had to endure from time to time.

"You know why all those guys were in there, right?"
    "Uh, noooooooo..."
"It's right next to (some strip club)...
you know... the one with the giant flashing letters? Right next door."

No, I only noticed the Pitch. And couldn't stop thinking about the Pitch because of the aforementioned Kansas City office musings...

I'll be perfectly honest. I'm still wondering if that strip club really exists next door or if there is some giant joke being played on me.

Sometimes being a reflective Pisces really sucks.

Both trips to the Bulldog were to partake in their 2-4-1 Happy Hour special on Thursdays and Fridays because, obviously, I have priorities.

The restaurant/bar is split up into a traditional dining room and busy bar. The bar was packed both times, but there was plenty of seating in the dining room, so my friends and I opted for that route.

I ordered beer on both occasions, so I can't speak to any of their mixed drinks, but having two pints of beer set down in front of me for the price of one is generally not something I complain about. Except you have to drink relatively quickly in order to prevent beer #2 from getting warm. First world problems, amirite?

The food, however, was nothing to write home about. I've tried the calamari (decent), hummus (strangely chunky), and the chips and queso (neither of which were made in-house). I found the prices ($8-10 for each) a bit high considering the quality. In terms of needing something a little greasy to aid me in my imbibing, the food did its job. But I wouldn't go to the Bulldog just for the food.

Service was ok. Reasonably attentive but not terribly friendly or helpful. There were multiple occasions when it seemed like we had to track waitstaff down.

Any return trips to the Bulldog will be purely booze-related. And I'm ok with that.

I stopped in here one afternoon after trekking down to try a new restaurant.  due to the heat I needed to find a nice cool place to hang for a few minutes before walking the 8 blocks back to my office in the oppressive late July afternoon heat. I sidled up to the bar, ordered something cold to drink.  The bartender, Aaron, was very engaging and attentive.  It had been a while since I had been into the Bulldog and for some reason, especially following this visit, I couldn't remember why.
This is an Awesome local hang out w/ exceptional happy hour specials on food and drink.  I would highly recommend the Bulldog to anyone looking for a fun and relatively inexpensive place to while away the after work hours.

I have been here a few times now and I love it. The 2 for 1 drink specials can not be beat. I have had the hummus wrap which is huge and yummo. So big I had lunch the next day. The combo platter app is big enough 6 of us shared it. The hamburger and chicken fingers are good and this last time I had the Gyro. So Good!!!! Plenty of lettuce and tomato and perfectly cooked beef.

I walked in here expecting a bar with bar food. Not so much! They have fantastic variety, lots of middle-eastern themed offerings. And hello, that 2 for 1 happy hour had my entire party of 6 pleased as punch.

The space is nicely decorated and welcoming. Our server, and the server-in-training shadowing her, was very attentive and patient with my pack of silly drunks. The Bloody Mary's were especially yummy.

The 6 of us split the app sampler. The falafel were ok... the outer crust seemed disproportionately thick. The dolmas also fall into the ok category, the grape leaves were quite tough. HOWEVER, the hummus, babaganush and yogurt sauce were spot on. In fact, and I mean this in the best way, the babaganoush was perhaps the most pungent I've ever had. It packed quite the flavor kick.

My chicken schwarma sandwich was a little light on the chicken but had good flavor. Trophy Husband enjoyed his Ruben quite a bit. The fries were lightly seasoned and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, just as a fry should be.

We'll be back to try other menu items, I'm going to make sure to hit that happy hour again.

I am basing my review off their 2-4-1 Happy Hour special on Friday.

We found a spot at the bar during our First Friday visit.  The two bartenders who helped us were very friendly even though they were slammed.

I am really looking forward to going back to try some food.  The people around us had some good looking plates while we were there.  Of course, I'm looking forward to visiting again to partake in the 2-4-1 drink special which is on both Thursdays and Fridays.

So far the Bulldog is "a-ok".  I will update when I go back to try the food!

We have always loved the 2-4-1 happy hour but are stoked about the recent menu change. They still have all the bar fare (sliders and whatnot) but have added a bunch of Yummy's  items on the menu. We have been twice in 2 weeks for sampler app platter and chicken schwarma. Put some curry lentil soup on the menu and you will have to drag us out of the place.

I'll start off by saying that I never actually went inside Bulldog.  That's because it wasn't open.  I was trying to find a bar where my cousins and I could play trivia on a Sunday night.  Granted, this is the night after Christmas, but I looked on Bulldog's website and it said nothing about being closed for a few days.  In fact, under the section of "Weekly Specials," it lists the following events on Sunday: "Game night with Beer Pong, TV Trivia and Shot Dice. Great drink specials."

Sounds great, right?  Well too bad I couldn't go in and check it out.  We paid for a cab all the way here, only to be greeted by a small note on the door that said "closed until..."  Great, but do you think you could possibly put that bit of info on your website?  I just love freezing my ass off wondering around on Main Street when it's 15 degrees outside.

Maybe someday I'll go here, but I think it's poor customer service to not inform potential customers that your bar is closed for a few days.  That is all...

Great happy hour, don't plan on staying for supper. Our service was terrible...server only stopped once between taking drink and supper orders. We had to have manager bring food, run tickets and get boxes...it wasn't busy either. Ill go back for happy hour, but not a meal. Avoid the skinny male server with a mullet.

    I mean A-OK in a good way!

I can only review the bulldog for their fantastic happy hour, I have not yet dined here. My friend and I dropped in to the Bulldog for a quick drink while waiting for our dining engagement down the street.  It was a Saturday evening, and there weren't too many patrons occupying this clean, modern establishment. My friend and I grabbed a few drinks and chatted briefly with the bartender who was really cool. After another round, I handed her my credit card to pay, without requesting our tab. When she returned my credit card with the receipt slip, I said, "oh no, I meant to pay for the both of us", to which she responded "you did!".  Excellent! Apparently they have buy one-get one specials throughout the week, and yes, even on Saturday! This was a great surprise, and a pleasant way to start my evening.

I was confused by this place. I thought it was more of a bar, less of a grill. Seems to be t'other way 'round.

Dulaney and I went here one night, ready to get hammered off of booze. Instead, we were seated at a table and our hipster server kept being all, 'so are you guys ready to order?' He wasn't pushy, but I definitely felt a little weird only getting drinks, so we decided to get some hummus. I've definitely had better, but I'm not passionate about hummus, so it was cool. And then he kept coming back by... 'Are you guys ready for some entrees?' and so we'd order another beer.

Point is, we were building up a pretty respectable tab with beer and hummus but he wouldn't leave well enough alone. So we finished our beers, paid (tipping nicely, I might add) and left.

Oh yeah, before we left, I drew a picture of our server on the paper tablecloth. Not sure why they have paper tablecloths like some seedy Italian joint from 1972, but it invites drunken artwork.

I guess the moral of the story is that you shouldn't go here expecting a bad-ass booze-fest. You should probably go here expecting to pay more attention to the 'grill' side. Oh yes, AND you should expect to see some dancers from next door coming over to savor the boner-free environment.

The Bulldog is a place we've been meaning to try every since moving downtown in April, but are just now getting around to it.  We've been twice in the past week, if that says anything.

For some reason, I expected it to be a LOT more laid back and "divey"...I couldn't have been more off the mark.  It's very nice and hip without feeling too fancy.  We've sat at the bar during both visits and the staff is always great.  I've only had drinks here but am looking forward to coming back soon for food.  Watch out Bulldog.  You have a new fan.

The Bulldog is a nice-looking bar. The cool light fixtures and exposed walls give the place a hip contemporary-retro feel. That said, whether you have a good time really boils down to who you go with. I've had a blast with co-workers at happy hour, and couldn't get out of there fast enough when I was with a creepy date.

You could say your experience at most places boils down to who you share it with, but the Bulldog doesn't market its food or drinks, it markets its atmosphere. And the weird hallway between the front and back of the place create a dynamic that's sometimes stifling and other times just right.

My criticism is vague, I know. So let me put it this way. If you want to soak in the good vibrations at Bulldog, bring them with you. And if you're feeling iffy about your company, don't expect the Bulldog to do anything to lessen your discomfort.

The Good: the drink list is awesome (and includes some drinks I don't see too often [see: Pimms Cup]).  The drinks themselves were pretty decent, too.   The food was okay.  I don't think there was anything particularly spectacular with what I had (the salmon club), but I don't have any complaints.

The Bad: nothing really.  It's just nothing out of the ordinary, except for the drink menu.  Ambiance, it's okay.  Service was okay.  Food was okay.  Nothing struck me as amazing though.

I was torn between three and four stars.  In the end, I'll give it three, as I think it's more "A-OK" rather than "Yay! I'm a fan."

I've been here a few times and it's a good place to hang and have a drink.  Try the sliders!!  I know, everybody has sliders, but these are really good.  They may not be on the app menu anymore for some reason, but they'll still make them for you.  The back room is usually a little bit quieter than the front room which can be super packed on busy nites.

One small note: strip club is next door and some of the girls will come over in between shows to have a drink.  Sure they look fine, but they won't give u the time of day.  Sorry.

The Bulldog has a classic cocktail drink menu, manhattans, daiquiris, grasshoppers etc. Basically if you want a top 20 cocktail, the Bulldog has it in their menu, with very few, if any, original cocktails.  I love a real daiquiri and the Bulldog's daiquiris are pretty fabulous. The wife is quite impressed with the bellinis also.

I have not eaten anything at the Bulldog, just had drinks several times.  I've always enjoyed the bar area, even when the strippers from next door make an appearance (clothed, but barely).

The Bulldog's a good time.  Right in the middle of the Crossroads, near a lot of other great spots, the Bulldog is a good spot for lunch, dinner, a date or drinks with friends.  The food is pretty decent and reasonably priced.  The drinks are reasonable and the 2 for 1 special rocks.  The style/ambiance of the place is pretty cool too.  If you've got a big group and can plan ahead, get the VIP room in the back.  All you have to do is spend $250 (I think) minimum and you get your own room and your own bartender.

Its one of those places that I like when I think about it but not enough that it makes it into my list of "must-go's.

This may not be a completely fair review considering I went with one of my sisters to her work function, where they had a private room with its own bartender. But I do plan on going back to check out how the other half lives.
I'm still reeling after moving to this area from Vegas a few weeks ago. I don't know my way around at all and was kind of unnerved when my sister asked me to drive to Downtown and meet her at this restaurant, using only the directions she gave me (and she is known for giving completely wrong directions to anywhere). But it actually wasn't too hard to get to, and as I pulled up to Bulldog's, nestled in the cleavage of some too-brightly-lit-even-for-a-fresh-out-of-vegas-girl stripclubs, I was kind of proud of myself in my first journey to Downtown alone.
So I meet my sister out front and we walk through all the tables of people (there was a decent crowd) to a little back area closed off from the public. There's a full bar and some crazy artwork on the walls (my favorite was the the pregnant woman with a male robot genatalia) and a loungy-like atmosphere. I was told I had two drinks on the house, an offer which was later extended to all-you-can drink when the other members of the work party far exceeded that limit. The bartender was really cool and, even though I was trying to be good since I had kind of a long drive back through a place I've never been before, he was pretty good at getting me to drink.
When we sat down for dinner there was a set menu but enough to choose from. I had a salad with asian-lime dressing and chicken madeira with mashed potatos and asparagus. It was REALLY good. Most food in the midwest is way over-seasoned but this was really done perfectly. I have a small stomach but I think I was the only person to finish my plate.
After dinner I ordered my favorite coffee drink, butterscotch schnapps, Bailey's and coffee with whipped cream. Drew, the bartender went to get it but came back apologizing that there was no whipped cream. Being a smartass, I gave him a "how dare you NOT have whipped cream" face and before I could tell him no worries, he bolted back out of the room, to return five minutes later dragging a cook with him. He introduced the cook, who he said just made a whole bowl of fresh whipped cream from scratch and set it in front of me. I felt kind of bad, but it was the best whipped cream ever! So yeah, he got tipped good.
Again, great experience, great food. I'll let you know if anything changes the next time around.
