To COALVINES OF SUGARLAND: My husband, daughter, and I have visited your establishment on several occassions. We have invited friends out and spread the good word on the quality of your food. To our surprise, we visited this past Sunday and our pizza came out burnt. The cook who brought it out forwarned us that it was dark and if we had a problem to just send it back. It even had part of the crust cut off (I am guessing it was even more burnt that the rest of our pizza). We went ahead and tried it and the whole pizza tasted burnt, so we asked our waiter to have another one made. A few minutes later, a different cook came out and asked if there was a problem with the pizza. We said in unison, yes, it was burnt. The cook began his closing statement that he has been in the business of making pizza for several years and assured us it wasn't burnt. Even when my husband was extremely nice about it, the cook did not want to remake our pizza. My husband then asked, why was part of the crust cut off if it wasn't burnt? The obnoxious cook replied that it hadn't been. At that point, we got up and headed for the door. The cook then came after us asking if we were just going to walk out on our bill. We replied, "We only had water." He disingenuously said, come back and see us and of course I told him we wouldn't be back. We are extremely disappointed at the behavior of your head cook. We will gladly spend our money at Grimaldi's, where the pizza never comes out burnt and the employees are super friendly. I wish you luck in the coming months because if the service doesn't change, you won't be around for long.

So disappointed!!! I did some homework to find a happy hour in Sugarland on a Saturday.  The website said Happy Hour from 3-6.  This was one of the reasons that we went.  My husband and I were celebrating our 28th anniversary and were looking for a place to have some wine and great food.  We were seating and asked our server, Camille, what the happy hour specials were.  At that time the executive chef walked by and grumbled, "we don't have that anymore".  I said it was on the website, and he grumbled again, "that hold have been taken down!"  Well... Alright.  Camille was very apologetic and gave us great service while we were there.  We ordered bruschetta, which was delicious!  While we were there, the music was quite loud.  Celo Green was singing in the background the song Forget You, except it was not the clean version.  There were children in the restaurant at this time, but no one on the staff seemed to notice!  After that, needless to say we waked across to Churrascos and had a fabulous meal.

No video and still know personal apology from the GM. He is not GM material he should go back to his cooking job he know little about being a GM and how to run a business.

If you live in Sugar Land, enjoy a good pizza and have finally gotten tired of Grimaldi's Pizzeria in First Colony, make a stop at Coal Vines.  They have a lot of great base pizzas to start from.  You can either enjoy them as they come or add toppings to them like I do (Regular Coal Vines Pizza with Pepperoni and Mushrooms for me please).  The pizza crust is thin, New York style.  Beware, the large pizza is very large.  This can be a very nice surprise if you're like me and enjoy leftovers as snacks at home.  All in all, its a good place.  I wish I could give this place a 4.5 but Yelp won't let me (I'm really picky about who I give 5's to).

Coal Vines is a great little spot to relax on the patio with a nice view and enjoy a bottle of wine and some pizza. The pizza is delicious and especially if you like thin crust.  I am a huge fan of Grimaldi's in Sugar Land and while Coal Vines pizza isn't quite as tasty, the view and atmosphere definitely make up for it!

Got a nice lunch here with a friend. The atmosphere is nice and the day we went the weather was gorgeous. We sat outside on the patio looking over the lake, which was great. Our server was very nice and checked on us often.

Mimosas - Good! Though it's pretty hard to mess these up. On the plus side, it was only $6 for a large carafe, which is cheap as hell, making them taste that much better.

Zucchini chips (complimentary) - these are delish! Wish we could just order more of them. Super thin zucchini, fried to a golden brown and seasoned perfectly. Gotta pace yourself or that little bowl will be empty before you know it!

Smoked Salmon tartar w/ goat cheese, avocado, pomegranate vinaigrette - The flavors were ok, but the ratio of salmon to the other ingredients was way too much. It overpowered everything. The wonton chips that came with it were perfectly crispy, and the texture of everything was pretty good. The portion is pretty large, we only made it through around half before we gave up.

Regular pie w/ pepperoni - Just a good, solid pizza. Obviously from a coal fired oven. The crust had a nice texture, sauce and toppings tasty.

We noticed that nearly every other table was having wine, and their selection is good for what I'd consider a family restaurant. I'd definitely come back and try some other things.

The staff and general manager have falsely accused a customer and are not willing to prove it. Dozens of people have been told about this and it is spreading quickly. They will not patronize this establishment until a personal apology is issued. Shame on the staff!!

Ok, I'd have given this place 4 stars, if I didn't just pay $6 for THREE SMALL mozzarella sticks...that was way overkill.

Menu is VERY restricted, it's either pizza or wine.

Staff were excellent though, the server was friendly and not intrusive (which is important of course) and the pizza was pretty good too.

The atmosphere is lovely, sitting outside in the sunshine listening to the water, it's perfect at this time of year!

I think we'd go back for sure :)

This place was amazing when they first opened but on our recent visit this Friday my entire party was disappointed.  We ordered calamari, pizza, salmon, some other seafood platter and a few salads.  The best dish was the calamari after that it all went downhill. The seafood and salads were flavorless.  The pizza was overly peppered and not quite how I remembered it.  I think we will give it one more try before we nix it from our list so hopefully they are reading these reviews and will do something to improve.

I came here on a Saturday at 2:30 pm.  Yeah, late for lunch and too early for dinner so we got a brunch menu.  Not a lot of selections on it.  I went with the eggs benedict which comes with prosciutto instead of canadian bacon.  The prosciutto was a thick slice.  Not the type I am used to but I'm pretty sure it still should be edible.  These slices were not.  I had a hard time cutting it and then chewing it was just wrong.  I had to spit it out.  I couldn't eat that part of the benedict.  The meat looked overcooked and it probably was since the edges were thick and felt old.

The kids had a cheese pizza.  While I did ask for a medium I was given a large.  No biggie because the boys ate it up and left two slices which we took to go.  These kids are cheese pizza experts.  They have had all kinds of cheese pizza from all over Houston, Richmond, Sugar Land areas so they know what's cheese pizza and what's a gooooooood cheese pizza.  They said this was a gooooooood cheese pizza.

Had the complimentary zucchini chips which like all other reviewers mentioned was delicious.  It was the highlight of my meal.  The waiter we had was Marvin and he was such a nice guy and very attentive.  The ladies room was clean which is a good sign.  We ate outside and what a great view.

So would I return?  Maybe, for some zucchini chips, some cheese pizza and throw in a glass of wine and yeah, I'd come back for that but not in the near future.

Overall: A restaurant like this would normally get 3 stars, but the food quality and flavor was consistently disappointing and bumped it down to 2 stars.

Food/prices: Price-wise it's average for an Italian restaurant (though the portion sizes aren't impressive) so prepare to spend at least $8-12 for an appetizer, $10-15 for an entree and $14-18 for a pizza, depending on what size (regular or large) and extra toppings (each extra topping is $1.50) you get.

The best item we had were the free zucchini chip appetizer they give each table at the beginning.

    - We tried two appetizers: 1) the seafood risotto ($10) was on the smaller side, served with a marinara-type sauce, and pretty tasty and the 2) salmon tartar ($10), which was palatable but weird, with a clumpy texture and random avocados and some kind of cheese distributed throughout it.
    - We tried two pizzas: 1) the sausage and red pepper (very average, the base was literally "weak sauce," haha, but there were plentiful toppings and the 2) white pizza special (the ricotta was overwhelming and gave the pizza a mushy texture; bland overall).
    - We tried two entrees, both were small for the asking price; they each came on a bed of greens soaked in a nearly tasteless vinagrette: 1) baked salmon (average; I would have rather made my own so it's nothing special) and 2) shrimp and scallops (over-salty but the prawns were tender).

    Service: attentive but not remarkable.

Ambiance: relaxing and quiet with diffuse lighting. A nice little place tucked away near Whole Foods on Highway 6 and 59.

I have always given Coal Vines great praise to friends in the Texas area. Having frequented locations in Dallas, Austin, and Houston, I was very bummed by the food today. Somehow, this location thought it best to not have their "chef" working on Saturday night... The pizzas were both absolutely awful. Forgetting to put cheese on a regular pie, dumping black pepper on it, and offering to replace a large pie with a corrected small pie? Then blaming the errors on the cooks who were trying to get pizzas made without the chef's supervision? Rookie mistakes... For future reference, it probably isn't best to tell your customers that their $60 (yes, this place is pricey for pizza) meal was prepared in subpar fashion because they didn't have a chef on duty.

This location has never been up to par with the locations in Dallas or Austin, but this experience has completely soured my taste for good. Looks like I am not the only one disappointed. Restaurant was maybe 25% full on a Saturday night at 8:30pm.

Pizza was OK.  Thin, and not much pizza sauce or cheese - needed oregano & hot pepper flakes to give it some flavor.

The glass of Murphy Goode Cab was way over-priced - $15.  After I got home, I researched the wine, and I could have bought a bottle for that price.  I realize they need to make some money, but like i said, way over-priced.

The service was good with friendly waiters.

Oh my goodness! We ate here very recently and had the pleasure of sitting outside by the water. The evening was lovely. The food was scrumptious. Our waiter was professional, prompt, and attentive. The pizza we ordered was a tad too rich for me (different cheeses, you know how that is at times) but what I could eat was delicious. I def. plan to return here.

I posted this on my facebook page, and a friend suggested I put it someplace that matters, so...

For those of you in the Sugar Land area that aren't familiar with Coal Vines, let me fill you in. They are at Lake Pointe (Whole Foods center). The GM is Grant and what he has done for this place is amazing. The pizza is great, but so is everything else. He is doing a cheese board and goes to a local cheese monger and hand picks what is good. He is also doing great wines. They have a new chef (Steve, formerly of the Tasting Room), who is doing awesome specials an wine pairings. Today we had an amazing duck gumbo and are pondering coming back tonight for the chicken fried ribeye w/ goat cheese mashed and duck with sweet potato mashed. If you haven't already, give it a try!

I've been going here for quite some time now.  It's been a couple of month since my last visit, though - they turned over pretty much the entire staff...

Last night my girlfriend and I had our first bad experience at Coal Vines.  The Bruschetta was so so.  One piece had so much oil on it that I couldn't even pick up the bread.  It crumbled in my fingers.

The Chicken Alfredo pizza was amazing!  Just superb!

My girlfriends Lemon Sole Picatta was very oily.  I mean the plate was covered in olive oil.  Drowning!  Not good.

The service was not very good either.  I felt rushed to order an appetizer.  The place was dead, but it was like the bartender wanted us to get to eating as quickly as possible.  When we finally ordered dinner - still with not too many tables seated, it took about 40 minutes to get a pizza and fish.  Way too long.

When we got our appetizer, we asked for some napkins and silverware.  Amazingly, we had to ask for that again after she delivered our food.  In my opinion, the service staff was far too busy talking to each other and worrying about their own interests.  The service has gone terribly down hill.

Also, be sure to check your bill.  I think they don't understand tax rates or gratuity percentages.  I'm looking at my bill from last night and it's a bit off.

I think they will shut their doors in the not too distant future.

Hello Houston! Recently transplanted from Miami but familiar with Houston for the past 2 years. relying on Yelp to stir us towards a good meal. Tonight on the mood for pizza, tired of the "popular" place nearby & looking for the up and coming! What a nice surprise! Civilized place with a great wine list full of opportunities at a fair price. Good Cesar Salad! Waitress that has full knowledge of house offering's! Coal Oven pizza with lots of choices to pick from...check! A very good experience. We enjoyed the Coal Vines Pizza with Pepperoni, mushroom & sausage surrounded by good background music, quiet ambiance, fair prices & good service...cant ask for more!
We didn't try them but they advertise artisan cheese offerings from local providers, looking forward to our next visit.

The people were nice, however, they completely messed up our order and the food was only meh.  Also what they call a margarita pizza, is not a margarita pizza, it's just their white pizza.  We got the food to go, which may be the issue, but I got there to pick it up and the order was somehow messed up - they didn't specify how - so I waited.  When I got home however, we had 3 mozzarella sticks, now I've never been there before but $6 for 3 mozzarella sticks seems like a rip off to me. Then they charged us $17 for a large "margarita" which just turns out to be their white pizza, which is completely not a margarita pizza.  I don't think we will be returning.

There is only one crust which is fantastic for my family as all of us like different styles. We decided to go with their famous pie and did half margherita and added veggies on the other half. Could have skipped adding anything on it as it was perfect they way it was. Their crust is not made for too many toppings as it is very thin and crispy. BUT the portion for the price was amazing and I would definitely come back here and spread the word.

Had a GREAT dinner there last night with my sister. Been there once before but only sat at the bar. Last night we ordered the bolognese pizza with mushrooms and it was DELICIOUS! My favorite part was the service, the zucchini chips were a VERY close second. Our waiter asked if it was our first time there and I explained that it was my sister's first time because she is a Marine and stationed in Yuma, AZ, then the manager came by and asked how everything was. At the end of the meal the server thanked my sister for her service and gave us a discount! We were not expecting that at all! We will be back I'm sure before she heads back to Yuma!

Food was very good.  The staff was very personable and atmosphere nice as well.  My only issue is that the food seems quite overpriced, no lunch portions/prices.

While we were there they informed that they were no longer going to be open for lunch, but would open starting at 3:00 for HH and dinner.

What a great place to satiate two of my passions, Wine and Pizza. Was pleasantly surprised that they carried both the Gnarly Head Zinfandel and Buelher Cab. Zuchinni chips were interesting but the white sauce pizza was the real deal. The service was good but a little invasive for a business gathering. Stay away from the windows when the sun is going down as it can get pretty steamy (no blinds), but the overall atmosphere is appropriate for friend gathering, date or family dinner. Dont get to Sugarland often, but when I do, I will make a point to stop by.

Great brunch menu! The mimosas were delicious and well priced. I had the Nova Scotia Scrambled. I like salmon so it was perfect for me. My boyfriend had the calzone and everyone else ordered the breakfast specials. I believe it was eggs and pancakes. Our waiter was super nice and very attentive and helpful on what to order. Beautiful patio outside overlooking the lake so hopefully when it cools down we will sit outside. The pizza is good too but don't be afraid to try the brunch menu!

I think this place has the best thin crust pizza in Sugar Land, and maybe in Houston (Like some others, I haven't tried NY style pizza yet. So, my perception of what good thin crust pizza is may change). I'm a big fan of thin crust, coal fire oven pizza. This did me no good when I lived in Chicago (home of the deep dish pizza). However, when I moved back to Houston and tried this gem, I got hooked to their pizza. I always order the thin crust, sausage and mushroom pizza. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, and the crust is great (right balance of char and crunch that's so crucial to good coal fire oven pizzas). Now, because of the price of these pizzas, I can't eat here too regularly. But, I highly recommend this place for all thin crust pizza lovers!

A-OK, and hoping for further improvement.

Nice music.  Take your kids there to learn the 40s and 50s classics, courtesy of Pandora.

As good a view of the fake lake as the much more expensive places in the same strip center.  Not a super view from any of them - fake lake, meh buildings - but the best you're going to get around here.

Godfather sandwich could easily feed two, and was pretty good.  Chicken had tough spots.

Zucchini chips super thin, heavy on the garlic and salt, which is nice if you like that and meh if you don't.  (I didn't - they were so thin and over-spiced you did not really get any zucchini taste.)

Bruschetta OK.  Wildly differing amounts of toppings on different pieces - some mostly tomato, some mostly cheese.

Spinach salad will be outstanding next time I order it, because I'm going to order it with dressing on the side (*way* too heavy on the dressing), light on the spinach and heavy on the pear and candied nuts (the latter two were delicious).

Service good, but we were one of three tables in the place so I can't say how it would be when they were busy.  Still, I've had worse service in even less crowded places.

Chairs on patio hurt hubby's back.  Odd, because I was fine with them, even though they were iron chairs without any pads.  The place had no booths, which I never like, being a booth person.

Enjoyed the Diseno Malbec, although I was rather surprised to see it was a 2010 when it arrived (no years were given on the wine list - odd in itself) - that seemed a little young for a heavy red.  It was very nice after breathing a while, though.  The people who have mentioned that the wines are overpriced were right - this one was more than four times retail, based on the Specs price.

Tiramisu not made as I am used to and prefer - the ladyfingers were squashed down between two large layers of sweet goop, like the filling between two layers of cake, instead of being most of the bottom layer.

Cannot comment on the pizza, as we didn't have any.  Will try next time, as what we had this time was nothing to write home about.

I could do without a big photo of a person with a cigarette (Dean Martin) at the front door.  Not appetizing!  Surely they could have found a photo of him without that yucky, non-PC accessory......

Actually, more like 2 1/2, upon reflection.  I think I was leaning over backward to like it because I'm always anxious for anything new with anything resembling a view.

After reading some of the reviews, I realize some people can be too critical.  Pizza in Texas is like Mexican food.  Everyone has their favorites.  I've never been to New York, so I can't say this is the real thing.  However, I have tried a lot of pizza and rank Coal Vines as one of the better ones.

When we were first seated we were served zucchini chips.  These are paper thin slices of zucchini with a light dusting of flour and then fried.  The chips were soft, but not soggy as some experienced.  We ordered their simple "regular pie" with an added topping of pepperoni (large $15).  The pizza had a very thin crisp crust.  The bottom of the crust was lightly browned while the top edge of the crust had a few pleasant char spots.  There was a light spread of tomato sauce and cheese.  It was loaded with pepperoni.  What I like about this pizza is not just the crisp crust.  None of the toppings will slide off onto your plate in one big glob.  All the flavors (crust, sauce, cheese, meat) in the pizza were nicely balanced.  It's so hard to find a good thin crust pizza in Sugar Land, but Coal Vines is a good choice.

Our waiter (Evans?) was great.  He made sure our water glasses were full.  He also explained the off the menu dishes to us.  He told us a little about the history of Coal Vine without being too talkative.  The manager came by our table and told us he came from Austin to get this Coal Vine going.

I can't really compare Coal Vine to Grimaldi's, since I've only been to Grimaldi's one time.  However, getting to Coal Vine is a LOT easier than fighting the mall traffic that surrounds Grimaldi's.

Went with the wife for a late supper quick.  However the inviting staff and atmosphere extended our stay for an extra glass of wine.

We started with the spinach salad which was ok at best due to the flavorlessness ( my new word ) of the dressing.  Next came the mozzarella sticks stuffed with prosciutto. In my opinion there was too much breading on them but they did come with a great sauce, roasted peppers and capers.

At last the pizza arrives! We had the special of the night, chicken alfredo. The pizza was actually really good. It had a thin and crisp crust, great chopped chicken, cheese and alfredo sauce with a bit of spinach.

I would definitely return for the pizza and wine!

So, I was a bit hesitant after reading mixed reviews here but it's a pizza place, so I had to try it.

I agree with the person who mentioned something about the chips they give you as an appetizer being "soggy". I think that must be how they are supposed to be, and although they have a good flavor, it is a bit of a turn off to get "chips" that are soggy.

The general ambience is very nice - it was a warm, rainy night and we sat right on the edge of the outdoors and indoors.

I also agree that the wines are a bit overpriced.

On to the pizza, it was actually very good, and I am not usually a big fan of New York style pizza. But it was very good, and initially I liked the fact that the gave you a carousel of Parmesan cheese, red pepper, and oregano seasoning with a spoon for you to plop on as much as you want - until I realized they surely give this same carousel to every customer which could be a bit scary (I know people don't directly dip into it, but still...I prefer the closed-top shaker in that case). Either way, the tastes were still all good.

Our waiter was very nice and personable but did seem like he had to think a bit about what was going on that day. No big deal but could be a bit awkward or like he was trying too hard to impress with their "specials". They do have some interesting specials, but a bit expensive it seems.

I would definitely go here again to try more, but overall I would say this is a regular-grade place in terms of quality and price, with a little bit of added flare due to the location and ambience that you can get there.

I went here last night for my birthday celebration w/ some girlfriends.  This was our first visit and I have to say, I don't understand all the negative reviews.  This place was fabulous, from the atmosphere to the service I don't have a single complaint!  For appetizers we ordered the seafood risotto cake and the mozzarella sticks with prosciutto  all were divine and the sauces that accompanied both appetizers could stand alone!  For meals there were several dishes, I had the white pizza, which was really good, I liked the ricotta cheese as the base, but it did seem to be missing something.... i think it needed an additional topping.  However, the crust was thin and crisp like it should be!  Someone else at the table had the chicken picatta and they loved it and so did another person who tried it.  Another friend had the penne vodka and it was yummy!  She ate the entire bowl and it was a healthy portion, I had a taste and loved it!  Our waiter was on top of it... he knew the menu well and could make recommendations based on what we liked.  The chef even came to the table since someone had a question about changing up a pizza!  We did call ahead for 6:30 and didn't get seated until 7 but the staff was very apologetic and accommodating.  We set in a side room off of the main dining room that had a huge window that slides open to the outside! They have a really nice patio area that over looks a nice lake too!   As for wine pricing..... its wine!  All restaurants mark up wine, that's how they make money but they let us sample every glass before they poured!

We have been here several times and enjoyed ourselves. They have a great wine selection, excellent coal-fired, thin crust pizza, and great service. The servers have always been friendly and helpful. I'm a fan of thin crust pizza, so this is just up my alley. The salads are also good. Also, great place to watch football at the bar. We are becoming frequent customers.

My wife and I went here for a late lunch recently.  Nice decor, friendly staff.  They got off to a bad start when the complimentary fried veggie chips they served us were cold and soggy with oil.  Better not to give anything than offer something so dismal.  These may have been good when they were hot, but it appeared they were fried in oil that was not hot enough.  Things looked up from there.  My wife orderd the risotto crab cake and I ordered the white pizza.  We shared a side of mushroom risoto.  The white pizza was excellent, with a thin, crunchy crust and ample cheese.  The rosemary sprinkled on top was a bit too much for my taste, but I'm not a big fan of rosemary.  I would definitely order the pizza again.  The crab cake was also good.  Nice and crispy on the outside and creamy risotto on the inside.  The mushroom risoto was perfect.  My wife had originally ordered the daily special, which was a lump crab cake.  Since they were out of that, they comped the risotto crab cake.  Nice touch.  We will go back there.

Coal Vines, I really want you to be a great place, but so far, you're just not.  After two times dining there, I've got to say there are much better Italian/pizza places in Sugar Land.  You've got a beautiful location, and lots of potential, but you're not living up to it.

    Pros:
Your fish dishes seem to be pretty consistent.  Two fish dishes (salmon from the menu and a redfish special) were nicely cooked and very tasty.  However, the sides that come with them don't work.  The salmon came with some very bitter greens and nothing else.  The redfish came with some overly-rosemaried potatoes and nothing else.   Salads are good.  Potato soup (or should I say bacon/butter/cream soup) were very good, but how can you go wrong on bacon/butter soup?.

    Nice music.

    Problems:

With Grimalidi's in town, you've got to step it up on the pizza.  Coal-fired should come out hot, crispy, and nicely charred.  Yours is ok, but it's no Grimaldi's.

Wine list is way too expensive.  You're selling $10 bottles of wine for $35-$40.  I realize you have to have a markup, but yours is outrageous.

Why no beers on tap?  Why no full bar?

The front of your restaurant is strange.  There's a huge picture of Frank and Dean in your main window.  It appears you're not open.

I really hope you guys make it.  I want you guys to be good, and I want you to succeed, but if nothing changes, I probably won't be back.

We went here before going to a play at Stafford Center. The service was poor and slow. We told our waiter the time we needed to be finished. He took a long time to take our order.. We kept asking when the food would be out and received no response. We had to take our meals with us because they were so slow. We complained to the manager and he just said he was sorry. He did not offer any compensation. I had the pizza after the theatre.. it certainly is not as good as Grimaldi's.

    Very disappointed..

I've now been to Coal Vines twice and I can say they are pretty consistent, but it's a consistency of average. I've been here for an early dinner (before sunset) and a late dinner. My experience has been just so-so. I hope they make some changes soon, because I want to like this place.

The location is nice. It's quiet and there is a nice view of the lake. I like their choice of music (all 1950's especially the rat pack) as it really fits the theme of wine bar and casual Italian. The decor is nice.  The waitstaff and managers are strange. There is a GM who wanders around on his cell phone a lot but there is also another manager who looks much more hands on and on top of things. I just don't think the GM should be wandering around inside and outside on his cell phone, it just seems unprofessional, especially in such a small space. Also, it's COLD in here. I told the GM that I was freezing and his response was that he was from Montana and it always seems warm to him. Um, ok, well, turn the AC down.

The patio is really nice, especially with the fans, misters, and sun shades. The patio was quite popular both times we were here.

Food: We got the calamari appetizer both times we went and once it was light and crispy and the other time some of it was mushy and soggy. I love the julienne zucchini that is battered like the squid, but it can't be left all limp and soggy. The pizza is thin crust and you can get a variety of toppings. The pizza is ok, but it gets cold quickly because it is so cold inside. My husband enjoyed his Italian sausage and peppers pizza. My father really enjoyed the short rib special with risotto, which was a compliment as risotto isn't usually his favorite. The chicken Parmesan sandwich was not good. The chicken is obviously cooked earlier in the day and then just warmed, coated in cheese and marinara, and served up on a roll.  The chicken wasn't very warm, and I wasn't impressed. I wouldn't get it again.  So, we had both good (calamari, short ribs, my husband's pizza) and not so good (mushy zucchini in the calamari, bad chicken Parmesan sandwich).

Alcohol: They have a lot of wine for a restaurant of this size. they will happily let you buy them by the glass and they are extremely healthy pours.

The two waiters we had were very different. The first one was overly chatty and strange. He told us the short rib special never existed and that the manager had just made it up to fill the board... really? Well, I guess that was wrong as my father had that exact special a few days later. Our second waiter was much better and more professional but extremely hard to understand. Our second waiter was very hard of hearing and his language skills made him really difficult to understand. I've taught students who were deaf so I was able to understand him, but other people at our table had no idea what he was saying. I'm really glad he has a job, but waiting tables with a loud environment makes him an ineffective waiter.

I don't think I'll be back too soon. They need to get their AC under control, work on their sandwiches (please make them fresh), and get that GM an office to make his calls in.

Finally Sugar Land has the PERFECT place to enjoy great wine, listen to nice music, and enjoy good food.    It's not a fancy place but the ambiance is perfect for a low key evening with friends.
The waiters are friendly and eager for your business.   The service was good, the wine selection and prices were great, and the pizza we had was perfect.
When the weather is nice, the walls open up and the entire place it open.   The patio is great to watch the sunset on the lake and feel the breeze.  So, if the weather is nice, sit outside and enjoy.
They are going to offer a brunch soon so that will be something to look forward too.  Sugar Land needed the happy medium and this is the place.
I hope you guys try it out and find it to be a nice place for an easy going evening.
