first I have to address the "good for kids" in the restaurant description. Â This is a bar first and foremost. Â 1/8/12 at 3:30 PM I witnessed a large group of college age guys (mainly) and girls all visibly intoxicated and drinking very heavily, being loud and boisterous, and playing their own music very loudly. Â If that's what you want your kids around, then go for it.
The good: Â the bartenders, they will remember your name and are most friendly.
The bad: Â The wait staff tend to be curt, the mixed drinks are expensive, and the food is straight off a Sysco truck. Â Saving grace? Â The french fries have a great batter.
Xmas day report: full menu available, comfortable outside seating and a direct beach view. Â Nice! Â Service was polite, if not totally attentive; but that is forgiven with such a great view! Â Buffalo wings were above average, with a tasty sauce and blue cheese/celery. Â Burger was decent, if a tad dry, but full of meaty flavor. Â Coconut shrimp has hot and crispy, although certainly frozen from a bag. Â Artichoke dip was also decent; nothing great, but it hit the spot. Â Drinks were average to good, and the prices were fair for beachfront cocktails. Â Overall, a decent dive bar with a great view. Â Worth a quick stop.
Review Source:Flew into Ft Lauderdale early in the morning and was looking for a casual place to satiate my hunger. The Deck is a small restaurant next to a small motel with outdoor seating with a great view of the ocean. Â
There's lots of interesting/cute signs to look at while you're waiting for your food to arrive. Â Service was quick and friendly--It was exactly what I was looking for. Â I ordered the Greek Omelette with egg whites. Â I love spinach and I love feta cheese. Â Every bite was warm and gooey, just comforting on that cold/rainy morning. Â The omelette also came with breakfast potatoes which were really flavorful and soft in texture. Â My friend ordered a breakfast dish centered on Corned Beef with Hash and that was really delicious as well. Â We were both happy with our choice to dine at the Deck. Â
Great location. Â Reasonable prices. Â Good service & delicious food.
Added extra tip to my credit card after I had left the restaurant. Â Called to dispute, but since I didn't have a copy of my receipt, I was told there is nothing they can do. Shouldn't have been surprised since tip is already included due to "all of the foreigners" and the nonchalant and unattentive attitude of our server. Â The food was mediocre. Beer prices were ok. Â The view is nice, which is just about the only plus to this place. Service was slow, incorrect food orders and illegally changing credit card charges. Definitely would never return.
Review Source:Five for view and ocean breeze, three for service and food.... It still it's a good place to visit. Â Had the special, which was a Cuban sandwich and tomato bisque. Â The sandwich was tasty....but there is a physics problem with a toasted bun (hard to bite into) and thick layers of meat, mustard, and a pickle in the middle. Â You bite and :::Splooosh:::: the bread is rigid and the soft guts are pushed outside the bun. Â Challenging to devour. Â But I fought through, and enjoyed it. Â The soda was very watery...which is a funny way to save money, but consistent with other reviewers. Let me repeat though, that the view and the breeze would have compensated for almost anything.
Review Source:Disclaimer: We did not actually eat here. Then again, that's why I'm giving it a one star. It was so bad we didn't stay long enough to test the food.
We were walking down Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd looking for a place to eat with a decent view of the ocean and we stumbled upon the Deck. It seemed like an ok place so up we went. For starters, the place is super confusing. It was hard to tell how you actually get up on the deck but we finally figured it out. Then there was no sign saying Seat Yourself or Wait to be seated so we just took out chances and sat at the first available table.
When the waiter came, he was rude, right off the bat. The beer selections wasn't great but we decided on Corona. Then as we waited for the beers we glanced over the menu. The selection was weird and the prices looked steep for a run down Deck that serves as a bar.
With the crap service, the shotty selections and the high prices, I quickly got the feeling that the food wasn't going to be any better so we decided to leave. We flagged down our waiter, cancelled our drink order and headed out to find something better.
I had a good burger and the best fries at The Deck. The restaurant is a good place if you want a very casual dining experience with pigeons walking around like they're staff. The pigeons are harmless don' t be alarmed! My waitress was very friendly and she even helped me to map out my itinerary for that day. Give them a chance, at least for lunch.
Review Source:The Deck is a  Restaurant I have seen driving by many times and been wanted to experience for years now.
I went there for lunch and then the beach which was conveniently across the street, which also makes parking challenging. The view was fantastic as I had known, but the menu had little to be desired for someone who Goes to the Beach. I call it a tourist trap.
After scanning the menu I saw a salad that would be tolerable Tuna Salad, and was soo disappointed when I saw my salad come out !  All Iceberg Lettuce (It said Mixed Greens) I also asked the waitress about the salad and she got defensive saying the owners were German and that's what they think Field Greens are.
My Man got the Greek Chicken Salad same kind of lettuce and 15$ I think you pay for the View here? so 30$ Lunch of just Iceberg Lettuce, pretty sad.
Oh And they suggest the 18% gratuity which is Tacky and maybe spells out Touristas don't Tip??
Maybe if I ordered a Hamburger or Fries my lunch would've been better here?
It's not worth my gamble to try here again, Ive had Better.
This place is fun. Â Sure it is a bit of a tourist trap where the locals drink at the bar and people on vacation sit at the table drinking the ten-dollar watered down specialty drinks, but that is the kind of place I like. Â There is no indoor seating, just tables out on, well, the deck. Â The front area has a view of the ocean and the back over looks the pool from the attached hotel.
The last couple times I have been here the wind has been howling, but that was not a problem, unless my beer was to close to empty, and my cup would try to fly away. Â Most recently my friend and I both had the create your own burgers, and we liked them. Â The fries are good, nice and crisp. Â The other sandwiches that I have had here are decent as well.
A huge plus to the place is brunch on the weekends, and maybe on the week. Â I do like coming here on a sunny morning, watching the ocean and the tourists, and the food is pretty good. Â Sure, I have had better, but not sitting on a deck by the ocean.
I am going four stars only because of the watered down liquor drinks. Â Stick to beer.
The Deck could do very well for some; me for example. I had a Mahi Salad; I would have liked a fat free dressing. Something for them to think about? It was very good and fresh; it came pretty quickly. The service was very pleasant, and I appreciate that since I was dining alone. Us loners usually like quick service; 'm no exception.
Having had a long walk on the beach near the Highland Beach Holiday Inn, a swim, and a 3 hour tour of the Hamikami Zen gardens in Delray today; I felt NO GUILT in trying the Hazelnut Truffle desert - WOW that was TASTY! Roasted to perfection, dipped in chocolate, with hazelnut gellato this was a nice size, but not gargantuan by any means. Frankly it was just what I was looking for.
I'm staying in the Sea Club Hotel (same building, different management, from The Deck). Once again, some aspects might be below-grade for some people (like Seinfeld's Elaine), yet the inside of my room is clean, freshly painted and smells good; NOT the Ritz. It's a value restaurant in a prime location; give me a break!
I am a tea-totaler, so I don't care if they make their drinks well or poorly, I did see lots of people happily lined up at the bar on this Saturday night, in late January 2012
The AMAZING view is what turned this from a 2* to a 3*.
Food was average, service was slow but friendly. Â Couldn't understand why it was slow since the restaurant was not busy. Â Dennys with an ocean view :0)
but unlike a lot of beachfront places, I didn't feel I needed to be trendy, and they didn't rush to get us out, so we were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
We didn't get the drinks, but they looked like swimming pools from what we saw other people having.
Once again, GREAT VIEW!
The view and the laid back atmosphere is unbeatable on Fort Lauderdale Beach, but wow my drink.
Am I becoming a sissy? Those drinks were some of the most awful tasting drinks. I am all for high alcohol content, but not to the point where the taste is completely compromised.
It was the second worst Pina Colada. I cannot stress how poorly my drink tasted to me. My girlfriend had a horrible mojito. I tasted her drink and became convinced that my eight year old cousin could make a better tasting drink.
You know when something is so bad or pathetic you start feeling embarrassed for the person or thing, Well that is how we felt for the bartender. We said, "everything was great" in response to him asking, "if everything was fine?".
One look at our grimacing faces and the obvious was shown that we were not happy. The Deck is seriously saved by that view. It is unbeatable.
Good God!! - What an over-hyped little tourist trap. All it has going for it is the fabulous location & view.
Don't come here for food, unless as a previous reviewer stated brilliantly - 'It's CISCO at it's best'. Ugh! Â My sausages and bacon looked and tasted like they were cooked in circa 2000.
Somebody needs to tell the cooks in the kitchen what a poached egg should look like & then teach them how to make one.
$10 for a margarita, piña colada or a daiquiri or any 'special' drinks. My mimosa was sour canned OJ with cheap sparkling wine - I doubt it was champagne.
18% gratuity is automatically added to your bill - even for a table for one.
Then they ask you for more tips - Shameless.
One is allowed to freely smoke here - so I hope you like a bit of smoke and ash with your meal.
Service is below standards. Just don't expect any & you will be fine.
The place is filthy and unhygienic - I shudder to imagine what their kitchen is like, if their 'public' face is so filthy.
I would advice any, and everybody to give this little place a WIDE berth.
I'm a sucker for the ocean view, never get tired of it. So the ocean view is the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars.
Food is propably on par with a  sports bar, but i understand, the quality of food is usually is in inverse relation with the quality of location, and location is great. What I don't understand, is why our server was walking around like she was  taking a stroll on the beach?  Maybe their assumption is that people on the beach are not in any rush. We were waiting about 5 minutes to be greeted by the waitress although we saw her walk by the table a few times looking like she was in a fog. Maybe she was?..
Everything took forever: menus..... drinks (watery, thin frozen drinks...)..... check... meanwhile the waitress never picked up the speed. Â I usually am super tolerant, having spent years waitressing, but I just really have never seen anyone move sooooo slooow. maybe she was just having a bad day, who knows, but still that was our experience.
I have given this restaurant 2 different tries only because I live blocks from there. The sandwiches are not that bad.
HOWEVER both times we went the service was horrible! They take forever to serve you and even more to bring you the check. Well the reason is because they alread include thier 18% gratuity! So no need to give you the service!
The view is good but they can do better if they get new waitress!
This patio bar/restaurant is right on A1A in Ft Lauderdale. Fantastic view of the Atlantic. In the short time of this meal, I watched two cruise ships sail out of a local port.
Our server, Chris, was prompt and friendly. I had the Cod Fish and chips. The fries are lightly breaded and delicious without condiments. The fish was plentiful for this light eater. Processed but good nonetheless. I ordered a Coke product but not convinced it was that. Â This is important to know if you're a Jack and Diet man like me.
Prices are fair for what you get. The view is worth it all.
Enjoy.
While the service wasn't friendly, the view and food made up for a multitude of sins. We ate there for breakfast and it was about a 15 minute wait in a tight spot at the top of the stairs. Once seated, the server showed up without a smile and asked minimal questions. We ordered the Eggs Florentine and Deck Two special. Both were surprisingly really good, especially after reading the reviews. The view was just breathtaking and we appreciated not being right on the road next to cars, but up above the congestion of pedestrians an car exhaust. I'd say give it a try! $7 for the special, $8 for omelets not too shabby!!
Review Source:Not really a fan.
I went for breakfast with my wife and the best thing I can say about the place is that it has an awesome view of the beach.
My wife had scrambled eggs with bacon and a bagel. I had my usual, bagel with cream cheese and a side of bacon with a Bloody Mary. Honestly, the Bloody Mary was the worst I have ever had. It was served in a 12 oz plastic cup and I even added Absolute. There was really no flavor to it and for 8 bucks and change you would think it would at least be served in a 16 oz glass. Pretty bad.
The food was Cisco at it's best. My wife's eggs looked dry and the bagels tasted like a supermarket brand and not a very a good one. The bacon was....I can't even remember now, it was just plain nondescript bacon.
The service was fine, so I had no issues in that department.
This place is a hold over from the glory years of Spring Break in the 80's. Souvenir cups for sale made from coconuts, large beers sold in huge neon plastic glasses and chow that tasted like dorm food. Did I mention the view is really nice. Cannot recommend this one Folks, Stay Hungry!
Had a really regrettable breakfast here in January 2011. OK, the location is great and you get a great view of the ocean from the deck. I wasn't expecting anything fancy, just a basic breakfast. I had pancakes, fruit, coffee, and OJ. It was midweek so there weren't many people there, but the service was slow, surly, and rude. I guess they don't need to be nice because they automatically add gratuity to the bill. For one person! It's common for restaurants to do this for parties larger than X number of people, but for one person? You've got to be kidding me.
It gets worse. The pancakes didn't hit me well and I puked them back up right after leaving the restaurant. Fortunately there's a metal grating in the gutter across the street so at least I didn't make a mess.
F this place.
Ok, so we where driving and it cought our eye's....(cute girls...lol). I was not expecting much from this place, only the GREAT VIEW... the menu is small but it covers the basics...steak, chicken, seafood, pastas, bar food, ect. The drinks where "A horse kick to the face" strong. I got to take a carved coconut home...yay cute. Why five stars for me.....they had on the menu a OMG LOBSTER BURGER.....best one I have had so far!!!
Review Source:The Deck was nice enough place before the move to the current location. I recently had lunch for the first time at the current location. Limited menu, surly attitudes( the Bar maid glared at us for moving to the bar to escape the rain and the waiter apologized in front  of us for our taking up space. Clientele was sleazy ( chain smokers, loud motorcycles) Great if you're into that while trying choke down a funny tasting overpriced hamburger.  The service was  also very slow  We  will not return, even though we live just down the street and can ride our bikes there. Too bad!
Oh , and as the final insult, gratuity was added to the check. 18%, which was fine , I usually tip 20 or more.
THIS REVIEW REMOVED BY YELP
My wife and I are not negative people but The Deck was quite underwhelming. The view is great but....they have these beer flags flapping by the hundreds and it was deafening on a windy day. We were about to leave when we were politely offered a poolside table. There were still flapping flags but at least we could have a conversation. All seemed fine until coffee was served. It was terrible coffee. When we decided to leave they sure enough charged $5.50 for two miserable coffees. We paid without a fuss but it seemed to us they should have forgone the charge. Oh well.
Review Source:The Deck was...interesting. Â The first visit was me going solo (the beautiful wife was in recovery mode, so I was fetching her a BLT). Â Like Sean S.'s (S.s'?) review, I made the HUGE mistake of arriving here at some point between 11:30 and noon. Â Why is this a mistake? Â Because the kitchen has to shut down from breakfast and do some sort of overhaul to get into lunch mode.
Now, I've never worked in a restaurant kitchen before. Â But I suspect there are pots, pans, and whatnot. Â I'm not exactly sure what sort of transmutation has to take place, but apparently it does.
Anyway, the surly gay bartender is pretty put off by my request. Â But I pushed this issue, mentioning that "bacon was a universal factor between breakfast and lunch." Â I'm not sure if he saw my logic, or realized I was being obnoxious. Â But after having a conference with the chef, he informs me that a BLT is possible. Â Thanks heavens!
After waiting for about 15 minutes, he could see that I was getting a little impatient (hey, the wife needed some nourishment). Â He came over to tell me that "it's almost ready. Â He [the chef] had to cut up the lettuce and tomato."
Seriously? Â There wasn't anybody else eating. Â Whatever. Â Finally it came out and I took it back over to the wife. Â She said it sucked.
So intelligently, we headed over to the Deck for breakfast. Â This time we had nice gay waiter who was more than happy to deliver tropical mixed drinks to us in the morning. Â The funniest thing about breakfast was the bacon. Â I can't believe we didn't take pictures, but they give you these strips that are insanely small. Â Dog treats (like Beggin' Strips) are biggest. Â Probably tastier as well.
Oh well. Â The rest of the food was OK. Â And I'm the proud owner of a dried coconut painted to look like a pirate that was probably made by a six year old child laborer in China.
Awesome location. Friendly service. Unbeatable for people watching. The Deck enjoys an optimum location in the northern part of the beach. The music evokes my College years, ranging from Jethro Tull to Electric Light Orchestra. Â We had a great time, and the only drawback was the overcooked soggy vegetables, which we attributed to being in Ft Lauderdale and of course, retirees like their vegetables overcooked and insipid, else they'll send them back to the kitchen to be overcooked and made insipid.
We got there shortly after 7 PM and although all the beach side tables were busy, the Maitre D' offered us space at the bar while we waited for a table. Â We hadn't even tasted our Margaritas when she came back and offered us a seaside table. Â Despite a cool evening, the temperature was ideal for al fresco seating. Â The sight of cruise ships sailing from the Ft Lauderdale terminal made the sight even more significant. Â
Besides our Margaritas, we ordered the Blackened Tilapia and the Grilled Mahi. Â Although the vegetables were made for Florida retirees, soggy, overcooked and insipid, both pieces of fish were excellent, and so was the rice. Â We had glasses of both Chardonnay and Cabernet to wash the soggy veggies and outstanding fish.
Waitstaff was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Â Now we have to visit the place for breakfast to see whether some of the discrepancies other Yelpers noted in their morning menu can be validated.
Overall we thought it was an excellent meal.
This place exemplifies what I miss about Florida. Â Outdoor dining, the beach breeze, good company, and down-to-earth service. Â I have worked mainly in fine dining, and for me, friendly service is good service, I'd much rather be called "bro" or "man" than "Sir" any day. Â I gave the place three stars instead of four, not for service reasons, mainly its for value. Â I understand that the real estate is not cheap, so I expect to pay a bit more than I'm used to in Chicago. Â For value, the bloody mary's are much too heavy on horseradish. Â I eat horseradish out of the jar, but I expect my bloody to be a perfect balance of tomato, worcestershire, tabasco, vodka, and perhaps horseradish, although to me, horseradish isn't necessary. Â The breakfast omelette I had was cooked perfectly, fluffy and chocked full of fillings. Â It was a perfect portion, I ate it all and felt satiated, but not to the point of gastro-explosion. Â My dining partner had the eggs Florentine, we each had coffee (which was above-average for what I expected in a world where diners and dives rarely consider coffee and quality in the same thought unless the word "bad" precedes the latter.) Â They automatically include 18% gratuity, which is great for me, I believe that's the way all restaurants should work. Â I added additional gratuity because I'm a firm 20% tipper for good service. Â The bill came out to $46 for everything including grat, their food and liquor costs should thank me, as the bill total and the sub-par bloody's kept this restaurant from being a 4 star place, not the service.
Review Source:This AM, before my trip home, a friend and I decided to try this restaurant out. Â We have heard good reviews of this place.
The location is great. Â Awesome view of the beach and down the strip (A1A). The actual restaurant is called the Deck for a reason. Â It is actually on a large deck. Â The unfortunate thing was this AM it rained in Ft Lauderdale and it was quite windy. Â So, we felt it all. Â
I ordered a Belgium Waffle and a Croissant sandwich (scrambled egg, ham, and cheese). Â Both were very good.
I would go back again but on a sunny warmer morning.
Our waiter was good as well. Polite, attentive, and very friendly. Kudos!!
Fort Lauderdale has surprisingly few options for food near Central Beach, where I was staying over the weekend. The Deck is one of them, so we ended up eating there twice. The restaurant/bar is, as you might have guessed(!), on a deck across from the beach. It's pub food... nothing too fancy but it does the job. We tried a bunch of things including the chicken fingers (delicious), onion rings, and the grilled mahi-mahi sandwich, which was pretty good (and came with great fries). They also have a number of drink specials including 5 beers for $10 (you can't really beat that). Friendly service too... what else do you really need? Good place for an easy and filling meal or a few drinks before and after going to the beach.
Review Source:I was in Ft. Lauderdale earlier this month for work and stumbled across this place. I randomly found a parking spot on the street and thought "Might as well get some lunch". Turned out to be a good choice.
The bartender (blonde woman, late 30's) was extremely friendly and chatted with me about the area and some of the other bars on the beach. There was a couple on vacation from Rhode Island sitting at the bar as well, so we all chatted and drank in the somewhat cool, sunny afternoon.
The view from this place is awesome...it's probably worth it alone.
I got the chicken philly and it was pretty good...although I also had a six pack of Miller Lite (in the can b/c of the beach) as well so it was a good afternoon.
Overall this place is worth stopping in to hang out.
With 45 minutes before check out to spare, my guesthouse concierge recommends "The Deck" for a quick breakfast. Â Named appropriately the Deck is a on the Deck of the Sea Club resort and this is about all it has going for it.
Upon arrival, one waiters goes into apoplectic shock at my arrival to the next "how are we going to serve him?" Now seeing as I was going to be their 8th table and there are two tow of them, that I arrived alone without entourage, paparazzi or I don't know a belly over my thighs indicating I might eat a disproportionate amount, I don't quite understand the production.
If I was a catty reviewer I might say they looked like a bunch of gay tweakers who could hardly keep it together but you know I'm supersweet. Â That said the calamity that I witnessed was because they were switching over to the lunch menu and not sure if they could serve breakfast anymore. Â Since they hadn't greeted me, brought me a menu or anything, I am not sure how they even knew I wanted breakfast but they did. Â Something about me just says "egg white omelet" doesn't it?
So when I requested a menu, tweaker, I mean waiter number 2 snided back "Uh we are looking into see if the kitchen can still do breakfast" and walked away.  You know there are a thousand things a waiter could have said like "let me get you something to drink" you know as a start but no not on the Deck, here they are happy to pass over their tina  induced paranoia, I mean work stress, over to the customer.
Wonder of wonders at 1135 the chef (chef, teehee) can take a break from his meth production, I mean, lunch preparation to shake out a few eggs. Â After ordering I am informed they don't have spinach which you know is one of two ingredients the other being feta in the "Greek omelet" so I said Add tomatoes and mushroom. Â I didn't say minus the feta but somehow this got translated to the drug den, I mean kitchen. Â So when my eggs came out they were mmmm, lacking in any taste what so ever. Â
I did get an orange juice and this was refilled for me with out asking which was nice except that the orange juice was so "not fresh" that getting that first 3/4 of a plastic cup was a chore.
Yelp tourists don't park your deck chair here.
