Best Pizza in Cincinnati!!! Edgar Allen Poe!!!!

Their pizza is amazing - probably my favorite pizza ever! It's always fresh, delicious, and flavorful. Toppings are generous. They have a great selection for vegetarians, which is unusual. Their salads are also very nice. I just wish they delivered.

If you're a pepperoni pizza lover (like me) go for the x-pep pizza or the Don Corleone (an amazing meat lover's pizza). But truly, this place is best for those who enjoy being adventurous with their pizza toppings. Also beware the wait...it can be a doozy!

For years I wasn't a huge fan of Dewey's.  I don't think Cincinnati has a ton of great pizza places and I wanted Dewey's to be the best and it just wasn't.  I moved away and came back and I must say, my opinion has changed for the better with Dewey's.  They have a really good dough to start and as a result, I really enjoy the crusts.  Their toppings are fresh and high quality.  I wouldn't say their pizza is authentic to Italy or anything like that and maybe that's why I was so ciritcal of them for so long.  But, the combinations of pizza toppings they do offer are creative and quite tasty.   They are definitely unique to Dewey's.  The beer selection is also above average which in my opinion is a must at a pizza joint.  Now when I crave pizza, it's usually Dewey's.

Gosh, I love Dewey's pizza. From the light, buttery crust to the fresh, innovative toppings to the fruity seasonal salads, Dewey's is delish.

Dewey's in Oakley seems to be a popular family spot-- kids can get pepperoni, while parents can be more adventurous. Also, it's a great restaurant to take out-of-town friends and family-- I've found the pizza and atmosphere always impress.

Service at the Oakley location is refreshingly friendly and attentive. My husband and I always marvel that a pizza place can achieve perfect service, while fancier restaurants often struggle.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dewey's Pizza. When I come home, everyone knows we have to go to Dewey's. The service is always outstanding! Everyone always takes care of different tables, so it doesn't feel like you are assigned one server to "section".

The food has never been below excellent. The pizzas are loaded with good, fresh ingredients and they have very unique flavors. One favorite is the Edgar Allen Poe (for garlic lovers), which has lots of kalamata olives, full garlic cloves, goat cheese, chunks of fresh tomato, and parsley after the bake. It is incredible. I also love that they do 1/2 and 1/2 pizzas, so my fiance and I can each get the pizza we want, but also share one size. The house salad also has to be one of the best salads EVER! Their house dressing is awesome with the spring mix, goat cheese, cranberries, and pine nuts. I've traveled around the country and I've never had a pizza come close to being as good as Dewey's.

Always a favorite place to go when you just want excellent pizza, beer, and service. In fact going there tonight!
Even though we're in chicago now, I still crave this pizza.

This is my favorite pizza in town.  The food has been consistent every single time. The service at this location has always been attentive and professional.  This is also a popular location for families with children.

My favorite is the Billy Goat pizza.  I swap out the green peppers for spinach and it's fantastic.

For those who love leftovers warmed up, throw it in a big frying pan (no oil), cover it with aluminum foil on relatively low heat until the cheese softens up.  It will be crispy and taste fantastic!

My favorite pizza in town! Their original with cheese is my favorite followed by their Ryan's Inferno, buffalo chicken pizza which comes with a side of ranch. Their salads are also top notch, house is the best. Recently tried their house white wine a blend and one of the best refreshing white wines I've had, plus proceeds from this wine go to local charities. Go to Dewey's now!

If you're in the mood for good pizza, but also would like a relaxing evening out to eat, Dewey's is a good place to go.   One of my favorite pizzas is the Ryan's Inferno-- a buffalo chicken white pizza.  Not only is the pizza delicious, but the salads are a good option and there are awesome beers on tap.

The service, as roth m. said, is more of a "swarm" service.  Appropriate, considering how packed it is, abuzz with activity and the fact that you get to even watch the cooks in the kitchen concentrate hard on making and tossing dough in the kitchen.  It almost feels like you're in a beehive.

My brother and I went here to eat just before going to see The Civil Wars in concert across the street.  Yeah, we waited for 30 minutes in a "foyer" the size of a beer can to be seated, but Dewey's restaurants are among the most popular in Greater Cincinnati, hands down.  And for good reason: You have so much to choose from in size, toppings, and even red or white marinara sauce that practically each pizza and panini made there is custom.  With real ingredients...or at least a crap ton of artificial preservatives, but I sure hope it's the former.

The pizza isn't quite as good as a few other true local joints I've been to in Greater Cincy and Lexington, but it's up there.  Every bit deserving of four stars.

It's good, nothin much else to say about it.  I don't even like Pizza that much (ridiculous right?) - but I love Deweys.  Honestly, I recommend their salads a lot as well.  Their pizzas are really good too, obviously.

My favorite local pizza place for me and me and my kids :-)

It's the only place my two boys can stand on chairs without their Mom (me) saying anything, as they watch the flying pizza dough in kitchen window :-)

Last Wednesday my boyfriend and I had dinner there .I had their Harvest salad with figs, goat cheese, pumpkins...Yumm!! We shared (um more like inhaled) a half & half pizza with seasonal "Italian" favorite and Edgar Allen Poe. The food was excellent and the service attentive but not intrusive...

Given that's a place for families and kids, the louder environment was fine..If you want a little less noise sit in a booth or by the front window, or eat a little earlier in the day when it's quieter.

Dewey's gets it right.  They serve solid pizza, fresh salads, and have a thoughtful beer selection and lots of friendly servers.

The pizza has a good balance of crust, sauce, toppings and cheese, which should be a given but isn't always.  We got half green lantern and half wild mushroom, and both rocked.  Which brings me to another point--they make half-and-half of anything you want.  Bonus points, Dewey's.

The salads are great, too--not just the standard afterthoughts you find at many pizza joints.  We also got the salad with grapes and candied walnuts, which was huge and fresh and tasty.

Many reviews compliment their food quality, and it is great.  This review compliments their service.  You will have an assigned waiter/waitress, but the rest of the service is more of a "swarm" technique.  This actually adds a LOT to the experience.  While you have assigned waitstaff, it quickly becomes apparent that ANYONE who's out on the floor handles ANY need you require.  Whether it is clearing an empty salad plate, or refilling a drink, everyone who's on the floor takes part.  Even the manager comes by and attends to simple needs at your table.  I've been to multiple locations of Dewey's and this is an across the board mantra.  It's not weird like, "where's my waitress?" and someone notices your awkward stare, but it's just an organic, "there is something to be done and I'm here, so I'll do it.".

The service is top notch, and I applaud their good work.  Most other restaurants could learn from this customer service model.

So I live in Chicago now, surrounded by what is ostensibly the best pizza in the known world, especially according to aggressive guys with unironic mustaches and early-onset morbid obesity.  At the risk of one of those guys putting me in a hammerlock, I contend that I've found nothing in the 312 better than Dewey's.

I always thought LaRosa's was crap, even when I was a poor college kid, so I was happy when Dewey's arrived in town and swiftly laid claim to the local pizza crown.  Their ingredients are fresh, their sauce perfectly spiced, their crust best described by another reviewer: "Thin and chewy and crispy all at the same time."  There's not a flaw to be found.

My favorite custom pizza was chicken, goat cheese and pine nuts with red sauce.  Someday I will do something to become famous, and I will then force Dewey's to add this to their menu.  It will be called "The DJ Fento."

I'm reviewing the Oakley location, 'cause that was the one I frequented, but the Clifton, Newport and Harper's Point locations all put out the same great product (hello, quality control!).

I adore Dewey's, and this location is no different! And it's a great neighborhood and location...adorable Oakley! What a consistently delicious and wonderful place to eat! I've never once had a bad experience at Dewey's...it's my favorite pizza on earth!! We've brought out of town visitors to Dewey's on more than one occasion, and they ALWAYS love it! The staff are always awesome...so friendly and professional and on their game. I can't eat somewhere that the staff sucks...just ruins everything. Dewey's staff is just icing on the cake of an already...really yummy cake? Haha! :)
We usually end up with our usual order of a peppercorn ranch salad and a southwestern BBQ chicken pizza...and I'm never disappointed in my order because it's phenomenal. :) We've also tried Ryan's Inferno and the Green Lantern, both of which I can heartily recommend. I can tell you how amazing this place is, but really, let me just sum it up with this: I think we both secretly wanted to move back to Cincinnati just because we missed Dewey's so much. ;) There may have been other minor factors, but I think it tipped the scale for us. C'mon, just GO, and you'll know what I mean!!! :)

    3) Need to try Ryan's Inferno as well as any of the salads

    Cons:
    1) Sometimes the service can be slow, but the staff is very friendly and professional
    2) Its hard to fit decent sized groups

Not a bad place to try some pizza. Kinda cool that you can see them tossing the dough and making the pizzas fresh. I have been to both the Dewey's in Oakley and Clifton since they each opened many years ago, so I have a pretty good feel for how they are.
I think when it comes to pizza it all comes down to each person's preferred style and tastes. For me, I'm not the biggest fan of their pizzas. To me I like going more with my family or friends for a decent meal. To be honest, I much more prefer their salads. They are a very neglected part of their menu that is definitely worth a try.
Either way, I say go with friends/family for dinner. I'm sure there will be some sort of specialty pizza or salad well worth the trip. If not, always a good excuse to be out with some good people.

In my opinion, Dewey's has the best pizza in Cincinnati.  Not only is it great pizza, but the salads are always fresh and flavorful too.  I like this location better than some of the others (like Crestview Hills Town Center and the Levee) because it has more of a local feel being in Oakley Square.  The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the beer selection is pretty unique.  The bartenders have always let us sample a beer before ordering which is a nice touch too.

The pizzas can be ordered by doing different toppings on each half.  They have a white and red sauce, and you can even split the sauces which is nice if you want something completely different from your party.  As others have said, it can get pretty crowded on the weekend nights so I try to go at 8:30pm or later to avoid a wait.

Dewey's will always have a special place with me because it was the first pizza in Cincinnati I found that I really liked. In fact, I discovered Dewey's before moving to Cincy. This is our neighborhood location and it is definitely your typical Dewey's experience. The service is always helpful and polite...although I will admit to being slightly weirded out by the fact that multiple waiters serve each table. While the waitstaff is nice, for me it kind of takes away the tiny connection one makes with their server. The husband thinks it is more efficient so I'm sure that I'm probably the only person on the planet bothered by this.

The food is always good and they have a surprising draft list. On my last visit I had a nitro Left Hand Milk Stout...it was smooth and delicious. The ability to order half and half pizzas no matter the sauce used (they have both a traditional red sauce base in addition to a white base option) is helpful since I often want a pizza completely different than the husband. They are masters of the half and half. You will find no errant mushrooms! They also have salads and calzones - but I haven't personally explored those yet.

Despite it being on Oakley Square, we have never had issues parking and they have their own designated lot.

Now I just have to try their ballpark pizza....

Where else can you find two great men from history--Socrates and Edgar Allan Poe-- side by side? Only at Dewey's, which offers delectable and unique pizza creations.  Dewey's offers excellent veggie options, like the Socrates Revenge & Killer Veggie. With a selection of sauces, toppings, and the ability to make your own pizza, Dewey's offers a little something for everyone. The staff is great- friendly, attentive, and super helpful for first timers like myself!

A word of advice: get there early for dinner, especially on weekends. Be ready for a good 30-45 minute wait during rush---but believe me, it's worth it! You can grab some drinks and watch make the pizzas when you wait.

Not being from Ohio, Dewey's was a new experience for me---and I'm so happy I've discovered it.I'm already planning another date with Socrates soon!

Dewey's is simply... delicious!  While I haven't been able to try all of the different types of pizza (YET!), I am quite certain I will sometime in the near future.  They have a plethora of vegetarian options, and if you don't like any of the ones they have listed, you can always make your own!  My favorites so far:  the green lantern pizza and the killer veggie.  Yum!

Their salads are extremely fresh and can be bought as a full size or a side salad.  While I'm not a beer aficionado, they seem to have a smaller, but decent selection.  If you are unsure of your choice, they will let you sample it first!  Their desserts are equally delicious, and while they are not made in house, they are from local bakeries and pastry shops.

The staff has always been very friendly and helpful, even when the place is packed.  While I am not usually a fan of chains, I'm a big fan of Dewey's.  Try it!

Dewey's is a staple in Cincinnati, but I never frequented it during the few years that I lived there. I have to admit, I was missing out. If you'll remember from previous pizza posts, I'm pretty picky about my pizza. I've reconciled my relationship with pizza by coming to the conclusion that there are really three categories: 1) American pizza, which covers the gourmet variety and anything that involves gorgonzola; 2) New York pizza, which is delicious and sold by the slice; and 3) Italian pizza, which is much more difficult to find outside of, um, Italy.

Dewey's falls into Category 1, and it does a pretty good job of it, considering that Cincinnati is not exactly a bastion of good pizza. Dewey's offers stone-baked, hand-tossed pizzas accompanied by fresh seasonal salads and a great selection of microbrews. There are a slew of specialty pizzas to choose from - such as the Edgar Allan Poe, which features mozzarella-fontina, mushrooms, garlic, Kalamata olives, goat cheese and fresh tomatoes - as well as the option to make your own. I went for the make-your-own, adding prosciutto, pesto and fresh tomatoes to a basic margherita pizza. And it was delicious. Even the crust was good - buttery and soft on top, with a nice crisp on the bottom. The cheese was rich and flavorful, and the tomato sauce balanced the perfect amount of salt and garlic - no overly sweet Midwestern pizza sauce here.

Even the house side salad was sizeable and tasty, a pleasant surprise considering that salad is all too often presented as a sad heap of lettuce. Instead, Dewey's served up a fresh pile of romaine topped with pine nuts, goat cheese and dried cranberries, dressed in their house balsamic dressing.

Overall, Dewey's offers delicious pizzas that are made with care - unlike the heavy, cheese-laden pizzas served up by those at Mio's. The ingredients are good, the beers chosen tastefully, and the salads more than palatable. While I wouldn't take a trip specifically to Cincinnati to visit Dewey's, I would definitely put it on my list to revisit if I was already there.

Great pizza, especially for those who enjoy NY-style (though it's not exactly that).  And tasty salads.  And tastier deserts!

Was recommended to me by a local friend.  Would definitely go back.  It was the best meal I had in Ohio.

So yes it's a chain, but yet Dewey's seems different to me.

This location is a little hard to spot. Google maps has it on the opposite side of the road, in the median. Just look for the awning. The door is on the side of the building off the alley/parking lot. Not the door in the front.

The staff here is all incredibly nice and helpful and fun! They'll explain things to you if you ask, and if not, they'll find someone who does! They're very attentive without being overly in your face and annoying. They're almost perfect :)

The only thing I don't like about this location is 1 that it's hard to find the darned place, and 2 the pizza window isn't where it can be viewed well from the dining room. I mean the window is over half the ambiance of a Dewey's!! But overall, one of my favorite Dewey's.

I'm not in Chicago and so have to make due with the local offerings.

it's ... a-ight. nothing to write home about and always comes slightly undercooked it seems.

but I dig their creative flavor combos, beer selection and cool waitstaff.

    it's doable.

I give some restaurants five stars because I really, really like them and I give others five stars because I literally could not live without them. This is the latter. I have never had better pizza than this... Anywhere.

One of my favorite things about Dewey's is how weird they can be, in a good way. Although they do have 'ordinary' pizzas, they always encourage you to try something different with their specialty and seasonal pizzas. I've never been anywhere else that offers a hotdog pizza (or even a pizza with mustard, for that matter), but I've heard that it was actually a great pizza. I'm really picky about what I eat, so the fact that they encourage unique pizzas is awesome. Where else can you get a black bean corn salsa, pine nut, barbecue sauce pizza with smoked cheddar and not even get a second look from the waiter?

The salads are just as unique as the pizza, but like the pizzas, they do offer a peppercorn ranch salad (basically a garden salad) for the not-so-adventurous among us. My only gripe with the place is that when I order a salad and ask for mozzarella instead of Parmesan, they're very careful to word it "No Parmesan, add mozzarella" so they can charge you extra.

A few words to the wise, get there before the usual dinner rush or be ready to wait 30-45 minutes. If there's a line, wait it out - it's totally worth it, plus you can watch them toss the pizzas while you wait!

I go to college in Michigan, but fortunately, it's only a four hour drive to the closest Dewey's, otherwise I wouldn't make it through school!

I was born and raised on Italian food in NJ, so I'm a snob about it.

That being said, Deweys is (so far) my favorite pizza to eat outside of the east coast. The bacon tomato ranch salad is a great starter and my personal pizza of choice is half Ryans Inferno and half pepproni. The wait can be long but its worth it. Bar like atmosphere but not so noisy you have to yell at the other people at the table. Service is always good and for about 30 bucks for two people you can stuff  yourself with delicious pizza, salad and drink.

Favorite pizza place in Cincinnati, hands down.

The gourmet pizzas here are fantastic. My personal favorite is the Southwest BBQ Chicken Pizza, but there are plenty for meat and veggie lovers alike. The salads are actually just as good as the pizzas, so you can abate any pizza-related guilt slightly by starting with something green. I highly recommend the House Salad--the toppings aren't that novel (goat cheese, dried cranberries, and pine nuts), but they come together in a beautiful way with the flavorful balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Here's a tip: if you're dining with someone else who wants the same salad, order 1 large instead of 2 smalls and ask for an extra plate (same amount of salad, save $3, and they're happy to do it).

Good for dining in or carry out. If you're dining in, the beer and wine selection is decent and they always have a seasonal draft or two. Only bad thing about this location is the small parking lot fills up fast. If that and the nearby metered spaces are full, you can also park in the car wash lot across the street after 7pm (you will be towed from other lots).

There is much that is appealing about Dewey's.

Dewey's has an agreeable and comfortable atmosphere, with plenty of seating room, pleasant "industrial" (if somewhat generic) modern decor, and better-than-average music on the sound system (think "Dad Rock": Wilco, R.E.M., neglected classic rock, etc.).

For a pizza place, Dewey's has efficient, polite, and friendly service.  There are few missteps during an average visit, even though most of the servers are quite young.

Also for a pizza place, Dewey's has terrific salads that confirm that the proprietors are aware that we are living in the 21st century.  (This is in contrast to the Denny's-level, iceberg-dominated salads offered in all too many pizza joints.)  At under $7 for a salad easily large enough to be shared by two, they are a great bargain.

Dewey's also has a small but excellent list of draft beer.  Rogue, Dogfish Head, Founders, and similar microbrews usually appear, and appropriate seasonal beers are rotated in and out.

If this sounds like Yuppie Heaven, I suppose it pretty much is.

So what the heck is the problem?

It's definitely a minority view, but my answer is the pizza itself.  Dewey's does use fresh, quality ingredients for its toppings, and has conceived of some tasty combo "gourmet" pies (the Green Lantern and the Wild Mushroom are especially good).

But Dewey's crust is sadly substandard.  Good crust is the basic architectural foundation of great pizza.  Without it, Dewey's has got a serious problem.  Dewey's crust is fluffy and almost flavorless, with little crispness or character.  In texture and taste, it reminds me a bit of those doughy, pre-made pretzels you get at a baseball park--without the excess salt, of course.  Or if it is really underdone, the baby-food "yeast rolls" you get at a Golden Corral or Ponderosa (it's been a long, long time, but the memories are still strong).  When we do end up at Dewey's, we feel compelled to order our pizza "well done," which seems like an absurd thing to have to do.

A Dewey's visit for two--salad, medium pizza, a beer apiece--usually sets us back more than $40, when tax and tip are included.  This seems slightly high.

But as stated above, Dewey's has plenty else to offer, so we go back every now and then.

Gross. Worse than at home frozen pizza or the most foul cafeteria pizza.
Chicagoans stay clear!! Now I understand why people go crazy over good Chicago style pizza of any kind, i.e. thin, stuffed, pan. And the salad was poor (candied walnut and goat cheese).

When it comes to pizza in the Cincinnati area, it does not get any better than Dewey's.  And I'm not talking about delivery, but rather the kind of pie that you have AT the restaurant with your favorite adult beverage.

Sure, it's a little more expensive than that crap from Domino's, but it's well worth it.  The crust is hand tossed and you can watch the dudes who are doing the tossing through a window to the kitchen.  And once your appetite is sufficiently worked up, get a salad to hold you over, they  are pretty spectacular as well, and I would take the Greek salad and their creamy vinaigrette dressing just about any day of the week.

The selection of toppings is unique and brilliant, my favorites are the Bronx Bomber, The BBQ Chicken (with black beans and corn) and I usually do my best to try the pizza of the month as well if I can.

Most recently I had the Ballpark Pizza, which comes with italian sausage, onions, mustard and more.  It might not sound great, but it's actually quite tasty.  This is the original location, and is located in the heart of Oakley, right across from the 20th Century Theatre.

If folks visit from out of town and want good pizza I take em to Dewey's every time.

The staff is friendly and very prompt, the salads are awesome, and the pizza is top notch.  Not to mention the unique and ever changing draft beer selection.  I've been a fan of Deweys for years and I keep coming back.  Great date spot. I recommend the peppercorn ranch salad and a SW BBQ chicken pizza.

A couple highlights that set them apart:
Homemade dressings - In my humble opinion, you will not find a better ranch dressing.  Anywhere. Period.  Seriously take a couple home with you.
Homemade marinara - just like it should be.
Unique seasonal pizzas - Dr. Dre & Hamburger to name a couple.
Garlic butter on the crust - smells amazing, tastes even better.
The curly haired manager at Oakley - Uh huh.

Come early on a Friday or be prepared to wait!

Growing up in Jersey City, we did not have a Dewey's. I grew up on New York style pizza, which is good in its own right. It wasn't until last year that I first tasted Dewey's, and I have been in Ohio for 8 years. I will tell you this is one of my favorite pizza places in Ohio. It is actually tied for the top spot. The pizza is excellent! My favorite is the BBQ chicken pizza. They have a salad that I really love, and that is the Candied Walnut and Grape salad.
If you're ever in an area where there is a Dewey's, you must go.

There aren't many truthful slogans.  But Dewey's really does deliver on its promise to take pizza to the next level (even if they don't actually deliver the pizza).  From uniquely named specialty pies (The Edgar Allen Poe, the Bronx Bomber) to excellent ingredients (pesto, kalamata olives, goat cheese), Dewey's is to pizza what microbreweries are to beer: several steps above the big names.  Speaking of which, they have good beers on tap (Bells, Ommegang, Southern Tier).

Admittedly, if you just want crust, sauce, and cheese, this is not your best option.  Dewey's would be tossed out of Italy before they could toss the dough; it just isn't classic pizza (try Via Vite if you want that).  This is highly Americanized and gourmet-ized, as evidenced by options like pine nuts, artichokes, black bean salsa, and pineapple and their rather good salads (the house salad is a staple with our orders).

I love almost every single Dewey's pizza (although I'm not a huge fan of the whole cloves of garlic on some varieties).  I love it for dinner, I love it reheated for lunch, and I love it cold for breakfast.  A pizza for all seasons.

The best pizza!  Great salads too.

They have a window looking into the kitchen, so you can watch them make your pizza.

My favorite is the Edgar Allen Poe, but so far everything I've ever had at Dewey's was delicious.
