Seems like most of the reviews are spot-on. Lousy service, awesome beers. When this place isn't packed to the gills with drunken college kids, the atmosphere is pretty cool, but if you go there any time past 8pm or any time after a Rockies game, don't bother. It's dark, loud, crowded, and generally unpleasant.
The beer selection is awesome, though. I think Falling Rock is confused about what it is. With a beer selection like that, you'd think they'd want to cater to a beer enthusiast audience, not a fraternity fresh out of their initiation ceremony.
I walked in here with some friends that were Denver locals. Jazz was playing from the speakers, sports being shown on the big screens and beer was flowing from a multitude of taps. There was an open air area and a very cool interior decor (lots of beer bottles, leather couches!) I looked at the bottle list and almost made love to it.
I asked my friends, "Wow, why don't you guys hang out here all the time? This place is awesome."
I shortly got my answer, it's because the servers here are the biggest assholes. We asked for a bottle from the list and a porter from the tap. He came over with two completely different beers, the one from the list was a draft and the tap beer was a peach beer instead of a porter. When asked about the difference, the server went to check, came back and muttered "they're out." No apologies, no explanation! He then asked coldly if we wanted something else. Hell no! We finished our chips, left the beers untouched and asked for the check. Well, of course the two mistake beers were on it. Had to sort it out with the bartender, who was somehow very nice.
At least the servers at Toronado are assholes only if you deserve it. Here, they're assholes for no reason.
The bouncer violently threw down a peaceful drunk who confusedly tried to go into the wrong section. Â When our fellow verbally objected to this treatment we were all refused entry. Â This is a mediocre place by all hearsay and clearly operated by unconscionable douchebags. Go if you are into that for sure.
Review Source:I really want to love falling rock...their beer selection is so amazing. Â Every time I go there though I feel like I'm going to a night club in Las Vegas. Â So smug. Â The bartenders have never been helpful...can barely answer a simple question without an attitude - at least in my experience - and I've been there roughly 15 times. Â Given its location next to the ballpark they must have enough business so it must not matter. Â For me maybe 15 times is enough. Â To the toothless bartender tonight that has no comprehension of what even minimal service is...maybe you just don't know any better but I'm done. Cheers.
Review Source:Great place with a huge craft beer selection. Â I do have a couple complaints, but they're both minor, so don't let them stop you from visiting. Â Firstly, the beer menu is heavily slanted towards IPAs. Â I love a good IPA, but after a few pints, I wanted something different that wasn't going to punch me in the face. Â The options were a little disappointing. Â Secondly, I kept having to ask our (super helpful) server what was available because the beer menu wasn't current. Â Anyway, awesome place, good food, and surprisingly close to the baseball stadium. Â I'd definitely visit again.
Review Source:If you are looking for that hard-to-find beer, then this is your place. Â I like Falling Rock more during a week night than on a Friday or Saturday night... it can get really crowded in there and hard to move around to get served, especially before a Rockies game. Â I find their beer selection a little bit overwhelming, so I tend to stick with what I know, but the bartenders are friendly and will give you a taste of just about anything. Â Just go when its not too crowded to fully enjoy the experience. Â The front patio is a nice place to get some fresh air when you feel like the walls are closing in on you!
Review Source:Had a chance to again enter the hallowed walls of this hole-in-the-wall tap extravaganza! Â Ordered the famous Pliny the Elder and was set for the afternoon. Â Service was excellent, decor is ... dangerous if you have ADD -- too many shiny bottles and cans. Â Great leather seat chairs and couches. Â Lighting is pretty dark, reminds me of an English pub. A must stop if you're in downtown Denver.
PS. nice shirts for sale.
The brick wall adjacent to the entrance of this bar actually grow their hops onsite! I like this place for many reasons. One being that it's essentially a craft beer emporium that supports any and all kinds of beer. Secondly, because it's a large space featuring two spacious floors with plenty of seating - the bottom floor boasting a few pool tables and arcades. Many times, an over-sized bar can be interpreted as cheesy, not-intimate, and maybe too chain-like, but the love for beer in this establishment resonates everywhere. And it's genuine.
I do know they host a lot of beer tappings, as well as many fun community events - some maybe too 'see and be seen' and some might just be beer lovers mingling with fellow beer lovers. Nevertheless, this is a definite to-go spot for exploring new and familiar beer in a casual environment. I could imagine it's a fun spot to visit before or after a ballgame, as well!
Anywhere that has Russian River's Pliny The Elder on tap (consistently), get 5 Stars... Period...
Other aspects to back up a 5 star rating...
- FW Double Jack on tap (i.e. great beer list)
- Above average bar food (try the Grilled Cheese with Turkey)
- Good TV's
- A nice downstairs area
- Just fun to read the description of their "Elvis Presley Memorial Combo" burger... (Let me know it you try it, I don't have the guts, or the heart, to try it)...
Easily one of the top 3 beer bars in Denver...
The beer selection, as the other reviews have said, is unreal. I'm a hop head and this is like an oasis in a sea of Coors Light specials.
Something that doesn't get mentioned enough is the food! It's _awesome_
Their burgers are great, and they have better mexican food than some mexican places I've been to. Their green chile and tamales in particular are fantastic and not too spicy for the heat-averse. New menu items and noticeably better food make me suspect they have someone new running the kitchen as of this summer.
I also really like the buffalo chicken salad because they have a sauce hotter than buffalo that is really really nice. Zippy, hot, and full of flavor. A lot of places with an extra-hot sauce just jump heat on without regard for the sauce. Not here!
My boyfriend and I came here when we were in Denver for a few days. We both really enjoy beer and this was a great place. They had a ton of beers on tap and a great variety. The place was very crowded because we were there the same night as a baseball game. I really liked the vibe of the place. They have seating indoor and out.
Review Source:Not much has been left out about this place in previous reviews.
All I can tell you is that if you are looking for draft beer this is the place to get it.
There are almost too many taps. It is hard to decide what to order. Fortunately the bartenders will help you wish a little discussion.
Probably the only drawback to this place are the noise... and sometimes a preponderance of smoke from people sitting outside and flaming up. Nothing like smoke to make a high dollar beer taste like ass. 8-
Honestly, I don't usually do this, but I've always had great service here...until today. Apparently, you're not able to order what you want anymore. I originally wanted Epic's Escape to CO IPA but they were out, which is understandable. So, I thought I'd pick something else. WRONG. Instead the bartender tells me instead of playing 20 questions with him he'll pick (literally had the beer menu for maybe minute). Before I can even object or tell him I want my usual fallback Dogfish Head, he pours me a Hercules. Â I live In Denver. Great Divide is down the street. WTH. I don't go to falling rock to get beer I can get straight from the source down the street. Sorry-not sorry... I might not be able to get the beer I want elsewhere-but it's been a good run.
Review Source:Another trusty bar crawl stop. For having two levels and a patio, this place can still get packed!! Making it difficult for a shorty with terrible vision (that's me!) to digest the entire blackboard menu and endless line of brews! This story ends the same as the rest, I ask the bartender for an IPA recommendation.
The decoration is fantastic! Hundreds of beer taps line the walls. Thousands of dead soldiers (bottles) adorn the shelves! Beer memorabilia, everywhere! If you suffer from a slight case of the short attention span, then put your blinders on because you'll surely miss every word that your friends are saying to you as you soak in your surroundings.
There's only 1 thing (2, if you include a spin off of 1) on the menu that I would recommend. The fries! Hand cut and well seasoned. I'd gladly hide in the corner next to a coveted Russian River tap (I love Pliny!) with that basket of fries all to myself! The 2nd item, chili cheese fries!!! It's the same delicious fries, smothered in green chili. Inhaled in seconds, only a greasy basket is left, begging for more.
What a fun bar after a Rockies game. It was crowded with a young crowd that was primarily a 20 - 30's crowd with a some 40's thrown in the mix. Our group of late 50's definitely stood out. If our age didn't make us stand out, our Cardinal jerseys and t - shirts did.
The bar was packed and the bartenders and wait staff were incredible. They truly knew how to hustle and moved the lines at the bar quickly. I enjoyed a Blanche de Bruxelles. After getting my brew, I moved through the crowd and out to the patio. Â After hooking up with the rest of my group, our shirts were great ice breakers for conversation. We meet a lot of new drinking buddies and one of them proved again like those we meet at Coors Field it is a small world. The best friend of the dad of a young man we meet, buys season tickets for the Cardinals from my cousin. What are the odds?
If I were younger, this is the place I'd hang before and after a Rockies game. They offered a wide selection of beer, had good service and a fun crowd.
Went there twice, one in the winter, and now last Monday. Both of the times, came for a Burger and a nice Beer.
The patio was cool, the environment is pretty laid back. The beer selection is great, and you will get the usual downtown beer-price ($5-$7) for most of the brands.
Burgers are tasty, and so are the fries. We were asked id's the last time we went (around 6pm) , maybe it was because of the Rockies Game, not sure.
This is craft beer heaven.. Take all the snobby high priced wannabes and this is the exact opposite. Â I counted 80 on tap and the bartender was awesome, tell him what you like and he dives in to find something for you. Â All the great beers I will never see back home in a really nice bar. Â Beautiful inside and a nice patio, tucked back in the buildings just a short walk from Rockies stadium. Â And I had my first ever Pliny the Elder, mission accomplished!
Review Source:Super busy, super hipster-y. Extensive tap and bottle list (75 taps and 120 bottles?). We enjoyed our choices but did not enjoy the crowd. I would rather stick to a bar that has fewer twenty-somethings telling me that I have to like a stout or an IPA or whatever. The beauty of microbrews are that everyone can have different opinions and palates and there is something for everyone. Don't tell me I have to drink a certain beer. I wish I could comment on the food. My experience may have been better had I possibly sat in a booth and not at the bar near the outspoken Denver hipsters. Next time.
Review Source:This is a great place to do some pre-partying before a Rockies game or before going out to the trendy restaurants in the area. Â Cheap beer - most drafts are around $5. Â The beer selection is amazing, you're bound to find something you've never tried before.
It can get pretty crowded on the weekends and after games, but that's kind of par for the course in LoDo. Â The patio is one of the best in the city. Â Large for being downtown, and the adjacent building is tall enough that you don't get any low sun glare, so no one has a bad seat.
Darts and pool are downstairs; booths, TVs and the bar is upstairs. Â Good layout, chill bouncers and the patio has waiter service.
Compared to most of the "dress to impress" places in this neighborhood FRTH is a nice respite from the meat market. All people are welcome as long as you have a ton of money to spend on the over priced drinks.
What's nice about this place is the large selection of beer and even some nice cider options. You gotta love it when there's variety. There's also a decent selection of booze for the non-beer fans so it's a well rounded bar - drinkwise.
I like the decor of this bar - beer bottles displayed all over the place, neon signs, wood surfaces and there is a small space for couches and tables in addition to booths and outdoor seating. The problem is when this place gets packed there's little wiggle room and it takes forever to get a drink.
The staff isn't the most swift on their feet but I can chalk that up to the laid back vibe of this place. It's not a big deal when the crowd is small but even when it's filled to the brim there's not a lot of spring in the step of the employees here.
Always a nice option for grabbing a few brews I firmly approve of FRTH for all your beer drinking needs. If you aren't familiar with a certain brew then ask for a sample and wet your whistle.
It was the place to be before a Rockies game... half a block from Coors Field, and what could be the best tap selection of craft beers. Â While I was tempted to go with my California favorites, I had to stick to local which did not suck... Odells & Avery were great choices.
While the inside of the pub is friendly and accomidating, the outdoor patio was great on this perfect Denver day
In my opinion, the fact that Falling Rock currently only has a 3.5 star rating on Yelp makes it perhaps the most underrated establishment in all of Denver. Â Falling Rock is perennially recognized as one of the best beer pubs in the entire country. Â You know why? Â Because it is! Â
The selection at Falling Rock is simply unparalleled. Â It is a beer lover's paradise. They have over 75 beers on tap and over 130 different bottled beers. Â They are constantly getting new unique, rare beers on tap that you will not find anywhere else in town. Â Within the past week, Falling Rock has had 3 of the top 12 rated beers in the world as rated by BeerAdvocate on tap (Russian River Pliny the Elder, Deschutes Abyss, and Russian River Suppication), which is even more impressive considering that the majority of the top 12 overall beers are extremely limited seasonal releases that are unavailable at this time. Â During American Craft Beer Week this past week, Falling Rock featured a Hop Night, a Night of the Sours, and a Day of the Barrel, in which they featured a phenomenal variety of hoppy IPAs, rare sours, and barrel-aged beers. Â Falling Rock also hosts great release parties for extremely limited and highly sought-after beers like Pliny the Younger.
Falling Rock is on my must-visit list whenever I have friends in town. Â Falling Rock is what Denver is all about -- amazing beers in a laid-back locale. Â The bartenders are also extremely knowledgeable about the beer on tap. Â The fact that you can find a beer pub like Falling Rock in downtown Denver a block away from Coors Field just demonstrates what an incredible beer culture that Denver has -- a beer culture that we apparently take for granted given the mediocre Yelp reviews. Â
If you are coming to Falling Rock for food or service, then you are coming for the wrong reasons. Â Falling Rock is all about the beer. Â And they do beer better than just about anyone anywhere.
Was in town for a conference and decided to check this place out
You go here for the tap selection, not the food or ambience
I appreciated the grid style of their beer menu (divided by origin and style) so that you can easily decide what you liked (ie I'm a belgian/saison, ales only kinda girl/husband is a hoppy IPA/lagers type)
Great staff/service and delicious and unique selection of beers
It's not every day you find Blanche de Bruxelles and La Moinette Blonde
Def will not disappoint, just take the altitude warning into consideration/seriously! Not only are you very dehydrated (chapped lips/elbows etc) Â but alcohol for sure hits you harder than you think
Excellent beer selections, that would be my main reason to go there.
Their food is just average, and the service was unfortunately slow. I appreciate that they have a patio to sit on for the nice summer nights.
Wouldn't recommend during dinner time, I went around 9:30PM and it was still super slow for service.
We stopped in for a beer and some food. Very nice, pub'ish type of place, good outdoor seating and a very good beer selection.
We had the beef street tacos and they split the order for us (two each). Â The tacos were actually very good with a very reasonable amount of 'stuff' in them.
If you're in the mood for a good local experience and want a great selection of beer then this is one of the places in Denver you really should visit. Â Located in an entertainment district, away from the 16th street walking mall, it is a great reprieve from the tourist madness.
Great selection of beer on tap, including Pliny the Elder.
That's about where the pros end.
One rude, ignorant bartender wouldn't serve my girlfriend with her foreign driver's license and demanded to see her passport. Â We're in our late 20s, pretty obvious we're not underage. Â He claimed his Colorado license wouldn't be good enough in her country. Â Sure about that, bud? Â Maybe you should spend your time and money traveling abroad rather than going on Phish tour every summer. Â Hippie scum.
Also, the food is pretty nasty.
Beer Stop 10

What else can you say about Falling Rock that hasn't already been said.
While the beer list is mainly focused on Colorado beer, they do have beer from other locations as well. Beer list is always  good, 50 beers on tap that always rotate. Each beer is served in proper glassware, huge props for that.
The waiter we had knew his stuff and was able to provide good recommendations when my girlfriend and I were in the mood to mix it up. Truly knowledgeable guy who worked there for 10+ years.
The menu has been improved in the last two years. Not everything is fried anymore, they know how health(ier) options.
Hi5!
They have the best beer selection I have seen in Denver yet.
Evidently the owner travels the world looking for beers to put on the menu. This is the place for the beer connoisseur.
This is a dive bar. The lighting is somewhat dark. Not sure about the food.
I have been there late at night and it is packed. I have been there for a couple of before dinner drinks and there weren't many people. This was also a stop on the Denver Brewery Tour I took last year on a Sunday afternoon (not crowded that day either).
I have had fast service and bad service here. Bad being the server took forever and it was a really slow night.
Falling Rock has the feeling of a familiar neighborhood dive bar but the location and size of a city bar and grill. Regulars surrounded the open seat I took  at the bar and in the tables beside it. Everyone seemed to get along and some guests even had their young children there.  The owner brought out a few bottles of the extremely limited release-Dogfish Head 75 minute IPA-to a table of his friends right as I walked in.  Immediately, I knew I was in the right place to indulge my beer geekness.
I walked in knowing what I wanted: Pliny the Elder and Dogfish Head 90 min IPA. Â We don't have these where I'm from but I've had them both and sought out this bar because they apparently keep them both on tap. The bartender was nice and brought each drink to me with a smile that betrayed how cruddy he admitted he felt. He had a sinus infection and as I watched him take a shot of Jameson-to make it go away-I knew I'd like this bar. I also liked him because he served both of these beers in PINTS! You serve me Pliny in a pint and you are a friend of mine, but probably not of my liver's. Needless to say, food was needed after those two 16oz portions. Â
Per suggestion, I chose the housemade veggie burger with green chili added to it instead of the turkey sandwich on focaccia-a house favorite according to the menu. Â Plus homemade onion rings. Â Yes, I wasn't going for healthy, I wanted something delicious and took the bartender's suggestion. The veggie burger was so big I couldn't finish it and and the burger patty itself was bigger than the bun. Yes this seems counter intuitive to what most of us think when we think about veggie fare.
The only  downfall to this entire experience was that there was cheese in the veggie patty. Not great news for a lactard like me.  When I asked if they added cheese, I should have specified,' is it dairy free'.  I've never heard of a veggie burger with cheese in it so I thought I was ordering it the right way. They do have a dairy free option which is what I thought I was ordering but hey, that's my fault and it's not the end of the world. I wasn't clear and that's what lactose pills are for.
I absolutely will visit this bar when I'm next in the Denver area. The prices were more than reasonable-$15 total for two pricey beers and a meal with an upgrade for a side of onion rings. Parking was not the easiest during the lunch hour so I may use a bus to get there next time, but I'll definitely be back to repeat what was a nearly flawless beer bar experience.
Large selection of beers, service sucks. Came here on a Tuesday after work with some co workers. Place wasn't packed but wasn't dead either. What we wanted was a good selection of beers, a couple shots and to explore Denver. We weren't from around here. What we got was way to much attitude from our server.
Pro-Tip: If i am giving you my money wither it be the "Best Taphouse in America" or a dive bar. Show the customer some respect.
The beer selection here is to die for. I had trouble deciding what to order because they had so many good brews. And they're all on tap so you can get tastes or have them pour you a half & half. Possibly the best beer setup anywhere.
The food we had was also really good. Say 4-1/2 stars. The service was excellent.
However on the downside, you walk in through a cloud of cigarette smoke because the patio out front by the entrance is smoking, upwind of where you walk. When we came in 2 employees were smoking directly upwind of the entrance door so we got the smoke full-on. Not a fun way to start your meal...
This so-called "Best Taphouse In America" really lives up to the hype, according to this microbrew-loving out-of-towner. I got to visit this beer mecca and its 110 taps in all its glory on a warm and pleasant Sunday afternoon as part of one of the Denver Microbrew Tour stops.
The selection is really like nothing I've ever seen anywhere in the US. And I've done my fair share of traveling these great states. Also, the fact that hops grow like weeds along the brick right outside? And they actually harvest them? Wild.
If you're in town for a visit, and you like a good beer, or 110+, make stopping by Falling Rock Tap House a high priority.
Great stop for Beer Lovers! The selection has both QUALITY and QUANTITY. prices on some of the less common beers can get a little out of control, but they are moderate on many.
On beer one the food is ok. After ann hour or so and a few beers in, it's the kind of tasty divey food you want. This place is SUPER casual for Lodo. That can be a bice quality.
