We have been going to Father and Son since I've been a little kid, when the other Milwaukee location was still open. Even though we live almost 15 miles away now, we still take the trip out just for their chicken and coleslaw. It's absolutely delicious! Their thin pizza is also VERY good.
Last night just proved how good their customer service is too. I ordered a large takeout order and came a little early to pick it up. They tried to rush to get my food, which I believe is why they forgot to give us an extra chicken dinner and an appetizer. As soon as I got home, I realized we were missing those items. I was really disappointed because it's not like this place is anywhere close to my town where I can just hop in the car and pick it up.
When I spoke to the manager to complain, he was very apologetic and had one of his delivery guys drive all the way to Schiller Park to drop off our food. He even threw in a dessert. Now that's what I call GREAT customer service!
I typically order from here a couple times a month. Â I always get delivery. Â They have a reward program and always offer coupons in email. Â The pizza is okay. Â The pasta's are good. Â I order the southwest salad and their thin crust pizza. Â Their prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. Â I will also recommend the half meat and half cheese ravioli with marinara, that was my go to for a while until I discovered the southwest salad.
Review Source:I do not really care for the pizza here. Â For my taste it's alright. Â But I know other's who love it. Â I love their pasta and chicken dishes. Â I have lived in the Logan Square area my whole life and that is how long I've been eating here 80's. Â I love their baked mostaciolli, Fettuccine Alfredo, Broasted Chicken, Lasagna, ribs...... The times I have been there for dine-in, it has been clean, staff is friendly, food is delicious and steamy hot..
Review Source:I've eaten at the restaurant just once, but the service was great and so was the pizza (we got the buffalo chicken thin crust pizza). I very recently went gluten-free, and when some friends suggested ordering pizza last night, I was thrilled to see their awesome gluten-free options. I got the gluten-free thin crust pizza and it was delicious; they also have a gluten-free pan pizza. Definitely recommended.
Review Source:I have been coming here for years, and it is always great. I usually get the same exact thing, so using their order on line feature, it is about as simple as it gets, the order is always spot on, I live close enough and I pick the pizza up rather than wait 45 mins to an hour for delivery. Pizza is ready in 15-20 mins from the time I place the order.
On Halloween they offered Bat shaped pizza for 10 bucks. It was the same size as the 16" pizza but cut like a bat. I wonder what they did with the pizza that was cut out of the design. Â Anyway, this one night, they were backed up, and told me it was going to be an extra ten minutes or so.. And I was offered a free beer while I waited. They couldn't be nicer at Father and Son's.
I am a fan of their thin crust pizza by the way.
Do you like chicken?
Do you like garlic?
NO?
well then go take a shower hippy because you wont enjoy this review of father and son.
GF and I stopped here a week or so back.....Im a big garlic fan and I really judge a place based on what they advertise as garlic chicken or garlic anything for that matter.....If you advertise garlic I WANT TO TASTE GARLIC!
This place didnt disappoint..... the chicken was slathered in diced up garlic so I was a happy boy.
We decided to try something different and ordered a thai pizza to split.... After the first bite my taste buds were a little confused....When you eat pizza as much as I do the thought of pizza with peanut sauce on it sounds a little weird but to my suprise I found myself strangely addicted. It was one of those combinations that once you get used to it you couldnt stop eating it. Â Crust was really crispy as well. kudos to father and son for thinking outside the box.
on way out I made a pit stop and found myself at urinal next to a employee... kinda looked like steve dahl ..... he held up my exit a little bit by washing his hands for a good 5 minutes...not sure if he has ocd or whatever but at least hes clean UNLIKE the dirty hippies that stopped reading my review a while ago.
will make a repeat visit to father and son in the future.
Father and Son does a real solid pizza. I was out doing errands, so a friend called in the order for me to go and pick up.
I normally do pizza+beer at my friend's for hbo Sunday's(and mad men when it's in season), so Father and Son's was this past week's destination. We made it simple and went with an XL thin crust pepperoni. It ended up costing around $20ish which is right in the ballpark that I expected. I do have to say, there was a lot of pizza to work with on the XL and that always puts a smile on my face.
The pizza overall was solid. It wasn't amazing, but it was very good. I liked the crust and the sauce, but I would t say that I loved it either. Regardless, Father and Son's definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
We called and tried after receiving the menu in the post. The delivery took over an hour even though I was told that it would be here with in 1hr. I called near the hour mark to see what was happening, i was rudely told "You ordered 58 mins ago, the driver is on the road and they should be there soon"
We ordered the New York style pizza. It didn't live up to the expectations and was feeling sick after.
We wont be ordering again
We recently ordered delivery and were extremely disappointed! We received a menu in the mail and saw Father and Son catered. We thought to give it a try in hopes of finding a restaurant to cater a party we were planning. We ordered pasta with a fresh basil, garlic sauce and an Italian beef sub. First off, our delivery took over an hour. Secondly, the pasta sauce was oily and the sub was so salty it was inedible. Needless to say we did not order catering from here, nor we will order delivery again.
Review Source:i've been living in the area for a couple of months and i have to say it's been less than welcoming (with my car being stolen, roommates outdoor turtle being stolen, upstairs apartment burglarized and other roommates sister's car being stolen!) The best thing to comfort me for dinner in the area is Father and Son restaurant. I've had their margarita pizza, deep dish pizza, spinach and bacon pizza and turkey burger with roasted potato wedges. It has ALL been kick ass. Definitely can't say the same for Lucky Vito's Pizzeria or Dante's Pizza.
Review Source:I've only ordered delivery from here, so I can't speak to service in the restaurant.
Delivery, however, has always been prompt and friendly. Â The pizza is always delicious, and the cheesy garlic bread is to die for. Â I feel a little sacrilegious saying this, but I actually prefer their thin crust to the deep dish.
I am a regular but have never been inside of this place. Â I love to order from here for delivery or pickup and we do it more often than I care to publish. Â Its not 5 starts because it can be inconsistent. Â Sometimes we find ourselves saying "not their best work" but this is not because what we're eating is terrible but more like, we've seen them do better. Â My boyfriend likes the turkey burger and/or a chicken thigh. Â We love the chocolate mouse cake. Â I tend to go with a flat bread or some pasta. Â The delivery is usually fast. Â If we pick it up ourselves its usually hotter food but if we order a piece of cake about half the time they forget to include it. Â So double check what you grab.
Review Source:Great thin crust pizza! Â The run around to get here is part of the reason I'm giving this a low rating. Â Freaking Siri!! Â There are 3 Father and Son pizza places in the Chicago area. Â This is the original, and far, far away from Water Tower where we were staying.
An $18 cab ride later......we settled in on a Saturday night, not to busy in my opinion. Â Crappy selection of beers too. Â They did have Fat Tire, but the rest were domestics.
We got the Thai Chicken pizza. Â It was very good, the crust alone is a reason I will be back (Just to the Wicker Park Location!!!) Â My husband loves the pizza here, and I can see what all the fuss is about.
At least we were close to Goose Island, so we could head there for a few micro brews after the pizza.
Let me tell you a story about Marcellos....
I ordered a Spinach gluten free pizza, waited 45 minutes for it to arrive.
I open it, its BURNED. So I call and they say we will send you a new one, don't touch the old one.
I am hungry...but I wait another 45 minutes for a new one.
What arrives? A sausage pizza.
I am vegetarian. I can't eat that. So my husband chases down the pizza guy and trades back?
I eat burned, cold pizza.
They tell me they will refund my money.
Its been 2 weeks. They haven't.
I've gotten gluten free pizza (and the gluten free dessert pizza) to go here twice and I highly recommend it. Both times I had after work events that made it possible for me to go home and grab some food in advance. So I ordered online and swung by to pick up the pizzas. Being gluten free I have to be careful because sometimes I have problems when I eat out at places where gluten is served. Not only did the pizza taste amazing, but it had no bad effect on me -- bonus!
The gluten free comes in one size, which is actually perfect for one person who wants to eat some for dinner and then have leftovers. Add in a dessert pizza and you have enough for two people without leftovers. The gf apple dessert pizza is what I ordered both times and I thought it was divine.
I've been coming and ordering mostly from the Logan Square location because it's closer to where I live and they have not changed much, which is good because the pizza is consistent. Â The North Avenue location is much nicer and more customer service oriented. Â If their employees were consistent, I'd give them 5 stars. Â I've tasted almost every type of pizza they have and my favorite has been the gourmet wheat thin crust garlic, chicken, mushroom and basil with mozz and Romano. Â They don't make a great deep dish. Â It's not bad, but it's nothing spectacular.
I have always asked for the marinara add-on because their marinara is real good. Â But be warned: Â making changes to their regular gourmet menu can be frustrating. Â Almost every time I call and ask for them to add marinara (mind you, no substitutions or deletions, just an add-on), I get the "we can't do that," "why," "what do you want to do," etc. Â They end up doing after I explain in detail my request, but it became so frustrating that I stopped ordering it.
I also stopped delivery not only because it takes an hour or more, but their delivery staff are not the best. Â They continually forget requests for Parmesan and pepper packets and have dropped my pizza and soda cans on occasion. Â By the time I realize that the pizza has been flipped and the cans (always placed in a bag) have been dented (and once it was leaking), the guy has left. Â Plus, the delivery guys are always rotating and I have never seen the same guy for over 5 years.
I now just order carryout, make sure I get the Parmesan in person, and order the thin crust with chicken to save $10. Â Plus they offer a lot of coupons online, by mail, and on the pizza box, so you will always get a discount. Â Their thin crust is one of the best and you won't be disappointed...that is unless you steer from the menu and use their delivery.
I am writing this review with my stomach full and one single piece of sausage & garlic thin crust pizza left in the middle of the pizza box. Â It was so good!!!
I've been eating at Father & Son Pizza ever since I was a small boy and, man, it really is the best pizza around. Â Tonight, the pizza arrived and was still incredibly hot and the crust was still perfectly crispy. Â I love the taste of the sauce. Â It has this sweetness to it that's delicious. Â As I said, I'm a big sausage & garlic fan and both come in large portions on the pie.
I'm completely full after eating the personal 10" pie but that last piece is screaming at me. Â It was so good. Â I'm not kidding.
I have only had their pizza, and it's amazing. Some of the best thin crust I've had in the city.
They get two stars because I have been there several times, and ordered take out several times, and I have never, ever had a pleasant experience from their staff. My girlfriend and I once came into eat, about 45 minutes before they closed. About 15 minutes prior to closing time, they turned off the TV, music, put up all the chairs, and basically stared at us until we left.
I will continue to order their food to go or for delivery, but will probably never ever sit in the restaurant again.
"I want to order pizza and have a super fatty, unhealthy meal." - Angie M.
"No problem. Â Let's order Marcello's." - Brett D.
I'm a huge advocate of the online ordering system. Â Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to chat, you know? Â I can also be nitpicky and not feel horrible about it when I order online. Â Ordering a house salad with no carrots and no cabbage is wonderful via the computer (What? It was the 'healthy' component to our meal.) because you don't feel like a dick by being difficult and there's a pretty good possibility your order will come out right.
Delivery came in about an hour.
The thin crust 'za is where it's at. Â Super thin crust and just the right amount of sauce and cheese made for a pretty tasty pizza experience. Â Marcello's is kind of light on the sauce, so if you're a moist kind of person, might want to order extra.
#winning
I freaking love this place, and here is why:
1. Â Their shrimp appetizer, garlic, with cocktail sauce, is one of the greatest things I've ever had and I literally CRAVE it every few months. Â The scramps are HUGE the breading crispy and flavorful and it is worth every expensive bite.
2. Â The menu is kinda the "healthier" side of takeout (or it can be)...you can get one of their big salads and split a flatbread (the walnut one is strange and delicious) and make two people very happy without completely overdoing it! Â Turkey burger is really yummy too.
3. Â Gluten FREEEEEE!!! My mom is off the gluten (and sometimes I am too just to keep a hand in) so I love that I can order from here and make the whole giant family happy when they visit.
4. Â You can order bottles of wine! No explanation needed! Wine!
its pretty expensive, I will admit, but they do a great takeout, and its consistent and delish.
I've had the pizza a few times and it's solid, nothing spectacular as is most Chicago thin crust.
But the broasted chicken, whoa. Â I've had it twice now. Â First time I had two pieces, and last night I had 7 pieces and only stopped because I was scaring myself. Â So good, so very very good.
Admittedly I am an uber fan of fried chicken, and broasted chicken that I think they brine beforehand? Â This is the stuff that dreams are made of. Â I can see myself saying to the wife "Imma go to fedex kinkos, get an oil change, and a 8 pack of broasted chicken." Â I might even buy the chicken and secretly eat it in the garage so I don't have to share.
I'm not kidding with the above comment. Â I'm drooling thinking of the last piece I have in the fridge right now... just counting the minutes.
Ok so apparently we used to really like Father & Son (haven't had it in at least a year) as evidenced by over 30 of those card coupons stuffed in the "delivery drawer", whereby if you collect 20 you get a Free pizza and 10 collected will render you half off a pizza. Â
Cashed in the Free one the other night and let's just say thank god it was free. Â Not really terrible but it wasn't even AOk in my book so it's a 2 star award winner.
The breakdown:
Â
Crust: Â went w the thin "what made us popular" it states....umm, ok. Â Dubiously so, perhaps. Â The crust was really, really thin, which in and of itself isn't necessarily bad, but when it's undercooked yields a very soggy crust. Â So into the 350dg oven it went for about 10 extra min. Â Done, came out fine. Â
Toppings: Â Sausage (big chunks, not very good) Â Onion: way overloaded with 'ribbons' of onion (not very good) Mushroom: Â your standard type (not bad).
Etc: Â Sauce, still very good, I like. Â Cheese: dunno, it was sort of...umm, plastic-y is the word that comes to mind. Â Not so great.
End of it was a Free pizza and know for a fact if I decide to cash in the remaining coupons I have for 1/2 off a another pizza I won't be getting 1. the thin 2. sausage or onion and 3. see #1 and #2.
The pros: Marcello's has a phenomenal online ordering service. The user interface is nice and the system is quick and easy to use. The thin crust pizza is also really good.
The cons: Delivery time. Perhaps this has just been a fluke but twice for me now it has taken well over an hour and much closer to an hour and a half for delivery. So if you're really hungry, perhaps Jimmy Johns will feed you faster. Additionally , the broasted chicken at this Marcello's is far inferior to the other two locations. It tastes like fish here as if they perhaps used the broiler for the Friday Fish fry. Ack, cause I hate fried fish. Its just not good, sadly.
Will I continue to eat here? Yes, because Jimmy John's can't always feed me and I need to diversify my lunch options occasionally.
Prior to last night, the last time I was at this location was when I was in high school...came here before a basketball game. Me thinks I shouldn't have waited so long to return.
They have reeeeaaaaaalllllly good broasted chicken. It sure as hell hit the spot. For a side I got a double-baked sweet potato, which I have never seen on a menu before...it was totally delish, and since I inhaled the whole thing, I think I am good on beta carotene for a week. Screw you, carrots.
I'll be back sooner rather than later.
Father and Son is not the kind of place to take someone on a hot date since its decor and ambiance leave a little to be desired, but having said that, the food is really good.
I've ordered for delivery from here many times, but only eaten in the restaurant a handful of times. The dining room is a tad depressing; there's something I can't put my finger on.
The menu is extensive and there's something for everyone - pizza, pasta, ribs, salads, sandwiches, and my personal favorite, their broasted chicken, which you can get regular, bbq, teriyaki, or garlic-oregano. To be honest, I've never tried any other kind of broasted chicken here besides the garlic-oregano. It's just too good to get me try another kind.
It's so crispy and garlicky that it's best left for eating solo on your couch (which is how I usually enjoy it). I didn't think about the garlic breath factor and the fact that I would be going to BAS immediately upon leaving here.
To anyone at Quenchers that I may have breathed on last night, I apologize.
Prices are reasonable and if you order from here enough, they shower you with coupons.
Free parking lot too.
3.5 stars.
Pleasantly surprising - and yup, real good - thin crust pizza.
What else do you need to know? The zzah at Marcello's is yummy, yo. Just sayin'. If you feel more substance is required in a review, well, here are a few fun facts to know when getting your thinner-than-thin crust on.
1. Marcello's is just as good dine-in as with delivery. It's not your standard counter and delivery-centric operation, no sir. With an unexpected lovely ambiance and higher end dishes like Garlic-Oregano Broasted Chicken, Eggplant Parmigiana, Homemade Lasagna and on and on, there's something tasty for everybody even when you want to go out and make a night of it!
2. Fabulous on-line ordering system. Truly, it couldn't be easier. With a nifty step-by-step visual that shows you exactly when your pie is in the oven and then on its way to you, the generated anticipation is pretty freakin' awesome.
3. ... and back to the pizza. My shining star! I love a pizza with a heavy hand of a tangy sauce and Marcello's certainly has it. Have gone for a few of the "Gourmet" pizza options like the nom nom Goat Cheese Marinara and Artichoke and Red Plum ditty's, but adore a standard Pepperoni and Mushroom Thin Crust best. This is the true test of pizza perfection and theirs is pretty infallible, really.
Not much else to say... Marcello's made my pizza day!
It was 13 months ago that i first tried this place out. I fell in love with this place and vowed to return to dine in. Well we finally made it and we were not disappointed.
The place was about 3/4 of the way full with a couple of large parties there. The place was freezing cold inside so I was not all that comfortable. Our server did a good job. She was very down to earth and took good care of us.
We started off with a spinach artichoke dip, which I think is turning into one of my favorite appetizers of all time. It was not the best that I have ever had but it was solid, and did the trick. for my main meal, I had Chicken Marsala. Now this is probably the fifth or sixth time I have had Chicken Marsala in my life, so i am no expert in any way. This was probably the best Chicken Marsala that I have tasted before.
Up until now, my favorite pasta dish has been Fettuccine Alfredo, I am thinking that Chicken Marsala has now won over the title. I think that this is going o be my pasta dish of choice going forward.
A few of my friends picked the place to go, I just followed their lead. It's a new place for me, so why not. The decor is a bit dated and doesn't look like it has changed in some time. Nice, but not fancy. The wait staff was extremely pleasant and quick with service. Nicer than I'm used...that nice.
I'm not really a fan of cracker thin crust, but I really liked theirs. They don't go light on the toppings and you'll need a knife and fork if you have a few toppings. 4 people can easily eat off of the 16 inch size pizza comfortably. The side order of garlic bread came out pretty quick and was enjoyable.
One thing that threw me for a loop was the bill. Ouch! I hate sounding like a cheap-wad, this place is a little too pricey for me. The pizza was good, the bill was not. I think if they dropped their prices just a little to make competitive, they might bring in a few more customers. Just a suggestion.
I've only ever ordered delivery, and I can't remember ever having anything other than pizza.
But the pizza is damn good. I've had the deep dish and the specialty pizzas on thin crust. I think they put drugs (tasty ones!) Â in the deep dish, honestly. I had it this weekend and I can't stop thinking about it.
The vegetarian gourmet, thai chicken and bbq chicken thin crust pizzas are amazing too. I am particularly in love with the vegetarian gourmet, and I'm pretty sure I'd be okay with subsisting on that alone for the rest of my life. Oh, and the garlic sticks (appetizer) are delicious. My parents used to order from another Father and Son location rather frequently when I was a kid and (um this is kind of weird, but...) I have always remembered those garlic sticks fondly. When I finally had them again, they did not disappoint.
In other semi-random information, the ordertaker was just about the nicest person I've ever spoken to. Plus the food arrived in less than a half hour (we were quoted an hour so it was a pleasant surprise).
I've never actually eaten here, but we order delivery from this location a LOT. Â I'm not entirely sure why though...their menu offerings always sound a lot better than any of the food we've gotten (I guess it just goes to show that "hope" hasn't died in this house). Â The food IS - kinda - how they describe it on the menu. Â It's just NEVER actually as good as it reads, e.g.:
-the veggies are ALWAYS overcooked
-most of the apps. appear to be out-of-the-bag, pre-fab. fried
-the salads have nary a green bit in them and are all chopped to high-heaven. Â Think the OPPOSITE of Leona's green-but-so-chunky-it's-impossible-to-eat-outta-Âthe-box psychadelic salad.
-DRY DRY DRY (isn't piccata supposed to be saucy?)
-the "braised" potatoes are like deep-fried cottage potatoes
The list goes on. Â It's as though shortcuts have been taken in EVERYTHING. Â And it's such a shame because if they just made a few minor adjustments, the food - esp. as it's described in the menu - could be STELLAR. Â Make the change...add a buck...I really won't mind!
That said, what few things they DO do well, they do really well: the flatbread pizzas, while small, are great. Â Desserts? Â Great.
Marcello, step it up just a tad and you'll be a restaurant worthy of the city you call home!
While helping a friend go grab her car from the impound lot we decided to stop for a bite to eat. Â After all we had exerted much energy finding the stupid car and it was after noon. Â On our left Father & Son Pizza came into our view so we decided why not?
The service was great but I was surpised out how slow the place was. Â It was probably around 1:00 pm-ish and there was almost no one in the restuarant. Â Nonetheless we settled into a booth and decided on the New York Style pizza (half cheese and half sausage and mushroom). Â I was super excited...I love New York style pizza and was hoping for something amazing.
Something blah is what I got instead. Â It was not at all like New York style pizza but it was okay pizza. Â New York style pizza is all about the crust and this crust was not speaking NY to me. Â However, the french bread with cheese we got, the service, and chitchat were well worth the stop.
We finished our pizza and asked our server to box up our leftovers, paid the check, and went on our merry way. Â After all we still had to pick up that car!
I have eggplant pizza on the brain today. I don't know why...
But as I go down memory lane in search of the best I've had, this was near the top of the list. Thin, crispy, well-grilled (bleah on mushy) eggplant. I'm there.
They now have "Thinner Than Thin" in spinach, basil & plum tomato (or tomahto)...and artichoke & plum tomato on whole wheat crust. I've not had a reason to be in that area in years.
Looks like I just found one.
I love the picture on this sign so much. Â They really look like father and son!
I like the creativity of a lot of their dishes. Â They have really good pizza, straight up. Â And they're open late. Â I'd definitely check it out. Â I'd say it's up there competing with the "big" pizza places.
I grew up in Logan Square. Â I went to Catholic school. Â After --{insert name of religious event here}-- my parents would take me and my sisters to Father and Son Pizza!
There is only one kind of pizza I have ever ordered from this place.... thin crust, sausage, mushroom, and shrimp... that's right... shrimp! Â It's simply delicious. Â My wife thinks I'm crazy and always "suggest" we order something more mainstream. Â We usually end up ordering two pizzas.
The place used to be a bit nicer, at least I remember it being so. Â Nowadays it seems a bit ghetto. Â The pizza is still delicious.
If you like southwest/spicy pizza the "south of the border" pizza is also good.
This is my pizza spot. Â I love the pizza and have turned many people on to the delicious-ness of Father & Sons. Â The food can be a bit greasy, but greasy is what I like in a pizza joint. Â They offer a lot of other varieties of food too...wings, burgers, chicken, sandwiches, pasta, etc. Â
My favorites are the gourmet pizzas or the New York pizzas...yummy crust!! Â The tempura is pretty good too. Â For dessert, the chocolate mousse cake is the best!
Typically I get delivery, but on one occasion I ate at the restaurant. Â They have an interesting lay-out..sort of VFW Hall style banquet tables in a big open space. Â But, the staff is very nice and attentive.
