I love this place! Â I've been wanting to check this place out for a while and we finally did last night. Â It has a great ambiance and I literally felt like I was at a bar somewhere in the countryside of England for the night. Drinks are nice and stiff and I had one of the best mojitos I've ever had. Â Can't believe we didn't find this place sooner!
Review Source:Fox and Hounds Tavern is so warm and welcoming. It has so much character and terrific service. I went to Fox and Hounds for a happy hour club of which I am a member. The first thing you must know is that Fox & Hounds is very small. I would not recommend bringing a large group here. The waitress we had was WONDERFUL. She was so friendly and recommended beers. Even though she was the only server, she was quick and friendly to everyone in the bar. I ordered the wings and others ordered french fries. The food was awesome!
Overall, I cannot wait to return to Fox and Hounds. I love the "Wee Britain" feel of the place and with the great food and service, it is a perfect place for drinks and appetizers.
It's nice and quiet, has very comfortable seating, plenty on the drink menu, and awesome snacks. It's just a great place to sit down have a drink and talk with someone for a few hours, which I've done on a few occasions. Kind of wanting to go back very soon, with the cold weather out, it just seems like a great cozy place to sit for a few hours and talk with some good friends.
Review Source:It's been years since I've been to the Fox and Hound so I was excited to go back last night for a special date. The place was mobbed, as usual, but luckily my date got there before me and snagged one of the cozy 2 person booths on the back wall. It was a perfect place to enjoy a drink before heading to dinner at Brasso's.
I love the ambiance of this tavern. It's small with the tables, couches and chairs all scrunched together. In the past, I've sat with strangers who happened to have 2 extra seats...and it was totally welcomed given the lack of seating.
The Fox and the Hound even makes me want to consider renting a room for a special occasion. It seems like the perfect place to hang out for a bit before retiring to the room.
Did I mention they have music too? I just don't see how this place could get better.
This place is a special place. Â The environment is incredible but what is really interesting about it is the variations in people. Â One night you might come here and its empty. Â
Last night when I arrived the place was packed to the walls. Â People had spilled out all over the lobby. Â
Great cocktails, good food. Â One of this city's truly great bars.
After a day on the road we really didn't feel like going out of the hotel for a bite and drink so we tried this place. Â Dark and small, but with comfy couches and chairs and different sizes of tables to fit whatever mood you're in. Â Friendly bartender and servers, but the bartender was our server and as the place got busier she didn't tell the other servers to check on us so wait time was a bit long. Â The drinks were good and strong, a little pricey, but understood as it's in a hotel. Â Were good about us taking our drinks to our room when we were ready. Â The menu is small, but it was tasty and filling. Â I wouldn't hesitate to come back the next time I'm in town.
Review Source:Although I have yet to sit in the Fox and Hound Tavern, I do love their food and drinks! How is that possible you may be thinking? Well, when it's 90-some-odd degrees out, you go lay out by the pool and the lovely bartender (I'm sure there is more than one but so far I have only had Sarah), comes out and takes your order! For a moment, it feels like I am on vacation. Then I look up and see the giant Amoco sign, and the feeling is long gone. Â
I believe the Fox and Hound tavern looks the same as it did before, but the pool area got a makeover during the major Cheshire remodel and although it's a bit small, it is pretty darn cute. Really comfortable chairs, clean pool water, a nice pool floor design and of course yummy poolside food and drinks.
I normally don't order mixed drinks but on my first trip here it was a scorcher and beer just didn't sound refreshing. I ordered a mojito. And then 3 more. They are GOOD! Off their menu I have tried their pulled chicken sandwich and the fish sandwich. Both were scrumptious. However, if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be the pulled chicken sandwich. The barbecue sauce that comes on it is out of this world good! The french fries are damn good too!
I foresee myself spending many a hot afternoon here this summer, gulping down cold cocktails and working on my tan.
Once I get past all the dead animals on the walls, I love this place very much. It's like sitting in a lodge in the middle of the woods.
There's something about this bar. It's so cozy, so relaxing, so dark and mysterious... I'm not sure what it is that gets me every time, but I keep coming back for more. During the winter when the fireplace is lit, don't even get me started. This time of year, though, I get to enjoy the pool... I don't know which I love more. Who would ever think a tiny bar in a hotel would be so great? It's one of those places I'm glad I live close to and I'm glad a lot of people don't know about.
The cheese plate, burger, fish & chips and lamb sliders are all my top choices on the menu, and I pair it with a finely crafted gimlet from the bar. They also have a great wine and beer list that you really can't go wrong with.
Stop by Fox & Hounds for a comforting, satisfying dinner or for a romantic drink at the bar. Rumor has it that when the bar at the pool is completed this week, you can stay at the pool all day as long as you spend $15. Now that's something I can get behind.
Definitely my favorite lounge in St. Louis! This place is such a hidden gem. Located in the Cheshire Inn, you might not even know it's there.
They have a live piano player, the decor is ridiculous in an I-just-went-hunting sort of way, and the atmosphere is very intimate and laid back.
I always had this warm drink that came with a cinnamon stick and an orange slice that was absolutely delicious!
The Fox and Hounds tavern is a great place to spend an evening. Â It is warm and cozy, and the drinks are strong. Â The service is good, and the ambiance is better! Â You'll love the copious dog portraits, stuffed bear, and live music! Â In the words of a good friend of mine, "Anyone who would even dust that joint is out of their mind."
Review Source:This was the first time I've been back Fox & Hounds (and Cheshire) since the renovation. Â Glad to see the bar stayed the same! Â Thankfully there is no smoking, or at least I didn't see or smell any while there.
By now you know there is a hunting lodge theme here, and yes, the beer was very good. Â Probably about 10 beers on tap. Â I went on a Friday night at 9pm, and it wasn't too crowded but got quite a bit busier as the night went on. Â There was a pianist and a guy playing a big bass, nice background music. Â Seemed to be a mix of college students, and older folks - maybe who were staying at the Inn.
Also, check out the newly renovated rooms if you get a chance! Â Much nicer than they used to be.
Cozy on up to the fireplace and you'll feel right at home. This place gives a rustic, hunting lodge feel that I just love. The lights are dimmed and when you step inside, it's like taking a small step back to a simpler time.
I've visited a couple of times in the past month. The bartenders and servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the wine and beer list. As for the food, I tried fish and chips and lamb sliders. The menu offers simple pub grub that doesn't disappoint. Â Delish! Â
If you live in the Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Clayton area, this is a great local hangout where you can meet up with friends and just relax.
Ok so the day after an awesome Yelp event where I got to gorge down on some deliciously juicy lamb sliders and amazingly moist (not soggy) fish'n chips, I was raving about it to the wife and convinced her to come.
Seriously. Â I had fish'n chips and lamb sliders 2 days in a row.
The place was super crowded and there was live music, which was pretty loud in such a small spot... at least mute the trumpet... but we relatively easily found a place to sit and ordered the fish'n chips and lamb sliders.
There was a plan, and I was sticking to it.
They were as equally delicious as they were the previous day. Â I didn't regret coming here at all. Â The onnnne thing that threw me off was that the fish'n chips were 14 bucks for 2 pretty small pieces of fish... I'd say 3/4 the size of what you'd normally expect. Â Also, 3 delicious lamb sliders for 8 bucks is pushing it as well.
Buuuuuuut.... aaaaaa...... yeeeeah I'm totally coming back over and over again.
We took a group to Fox & Hounds after reading they were serving hot cider by the fireplace! Â We informed the waitress we were looking for the hot cider and wanted to sit by the fireplace. Â She showed us the indoor area which is pretty small but very cozy (it would be great in the winter!), she took us out to the poolside terrace which had cabana areas with one fire pit where someone was sitting. Â We were extremely disappointed. Â
The waitress offered to take us to the courtyard area and have someone start a fire over there for us. Â I thought this was extremely accommodating! Â So we opted for a table in the courtyard and someone came to build us our own fire!
The waitress then told us that the kitchen didn't know anything about the cider but they had called the head chef and we're going to make it for us. Â I thought it was very strange they would advertise something and then not even know about it, but I think they made up for it by making sure we still got it.
I actually ordered wine and a few of the guys ordered beer. Â The other members of our party ordered the cider and it came with a splash of rum in a cute little tea cup with a saucer!
Among the group we ordered; bangers and mash (came out cold and we sent it back), the liverpool wings (which the guys said were good and they looved the new castle sauce), the burger, the pulled chicken sandwich, fish and chips and a few orders of fries. Â So we basically sampled most of the menu and the only items we as group really liked were the wings and fries. Â I'm not sure if the restaurant is new and needs some practice or what the deal is but the food needs some work. Â Â
I love the place for it's charm and character. Â The service and the drinks were good! Â Definitely don't come hungry like we did. Â I would recommend coming for drinks only or nightcaps after your belly is full! Â It's a great ambiance if you want to sit and enjoy a fire!
This is an establishment that basically gets four stars solely on atmosphere. Â This is a small, very cozy, Olde English pub. Â There is a fireplace, comfy small groups of chairs and couches, small bar, and cozy nooks. Â The food is good...typical British pub fare. Â Drinks are decent, although I wish there was a few more British beers to choose from. Â They do have plenty of Scotch choices. Â They had a three-piece jazz group that added even more to the ambiance...very cool.
