Hooray, this is better than ever, same cook, food  is his to control, now that he's a partner. Last expedition was before they closed ,the owner had this fake wise guy persona, the savior was the food & waitstaff. Now everything works. If you like traditional Italian in cool relaxed place this is it. Huge portions usually mean tasteless stale run of the mill not here, do your self a favor split a couple apps, eggplant Parma was terrific, clam chowder spicy chockfull of the tender guys. The star of the evening chicken scarppello, spicy mix of sausage, crisp potatoes, on bone chicken, peppers, and olives in  a lite wine sauce the best I've had.full bottle of wine bill $70 what a steal. Try the ricotta cheese cake& panacotta if u have room. Last but not least ask for Brittany nicest and most helpful professional I've had the pleasure to meet and she has cute dimples! Not to diminish the other staff all were  great except I don't care for male dimples. Go I know u will be happy these people care.

Get the meatball appetizer it's amazing they are not rock hard and you can see the diffrent types of meat in them, loosely packed and comes with fresh ricotta cheese on the side and very flavorful marinara on top. The place is a white tablecloth style of Italian restaurant with outside and indoor seating ample bar. All the food is made fresh to order I never got a hint of a frozen taste any time I have been there. Staff is truly warm and considerate and even remember your name.. Give it a try if you have not been here before

Hooray! Frankie and Johnny's is one of the few restaurants I've known to sink into the depths of bankruptcy yet somehow manage to come out of it and reestablish itself again, which is the reason my first review was 4 stars, my second or update a 1 star, given at that moment in time their only offering was posted bankruptcy notice along with a locked down building. Now however, it's back with everything seemingly very much the same as it was during its pre-bankruptcy era.

So with Chef Ryan at the helm swinging some delightful dishes out of the kitchen served by a top notch professional wait staff, I'm putting them back on my 4 star list.

Again they are offering, and one of the few places that do, a hanger steak (the part derived from the diaphragm of the steer or heifer known for a more pronounced meat flavor) with porcini mushroom in a red wine reduction and also one of the few with an eggless anchovy based Caesar.

They are open and better than ever!!! Chef Ryan is a genius in the kitchen. Food is awesome. Service is impeccable. Free parking in the back. Amazing selection of wine and beer. Try Ryan's "Mom's stuffed mushrooms". You won't be disappointed. As well as the rest of the menu. Top notch. Good job Ryan!!! You make me proud!!!!

First time visit to Frankie & Johnny's. Had meatball appetizer which was just average.... Meatballs had too much bread crumbs and had very little taste..the sauce that they came in was very watery..
The ceasar salad was very heavy saturated with anchovies and was prepared so the romaine was very limp..
Main dish was orrechetta and sausage... Pasta was over cooked..and the pasta wasn't drained enough leaving water in the dish... The taste was very bland..
Would not got back.. It was my birthday and the waiter brought out two cannollis..again average... filling wasn't creamy enough and the shell they used was a poor imitation.

    This place is just amazing!!
We were lucky enough to know the chef through a mutual friend and he really spoiled us checking up on us, etc.
We started with long hots, Tuna Carpaccio (which had jalapenos and pineapple that added a great crispness to the plate), and then a fresh crab salad served with plantain chips, OH! and we got the best meatballs I've ever tried in my life... my mouth is still salivating. By the time our massive app course was done we were honestly stuffed. Buuuuut I am a big proponent of leftovers for lunch so that was the backup plan for our entree if we couldn't finish.
My boyfriend ordered the kitchen sink (don't quote me but I believe it had meatballs, sausage, and pork over pasta with a marinara sauce). I ordered the Zuppa di Pesce since I wanted something a little lighter after our app binge. The whole pieces of seafood and the kick in the tomato stock was just perfect. Of course we did need to take both home in doggy bags.
Now comes the final course, we were told that we hadddd to try the Pistachio Cheesecake and goodness am I happy we did. I could only have a few bites but the Raspberry sauce they served with it rounded out the creaminess perfectly.
Now I know why people cite Italian food as their favorite... they've obviously tasted it at Frankie & Johnny's!! Thanks to everyone that served us and made our food during our meal; it was unbelievably fantastic.

One of the best menus.  Escarole and beans!  Meatballs with riccota, Frankie and Johnnies chicken - amazing.  Bartender - clueless - Johnny Meatballs (owner) a real personality.  It is a must to visit and at a fraction of the cost of others like Mataronos

This is one of these small places that you stumble on once in awhile in Florida.  They are an Italian Bistro with a very traditional but well executed menu.  I had a pepper and egg sandwich which was a bit heavy on the mozzarella but otherwise it was really delicious.  My wife had a flank steak salad that was so loaded with perfectly medium rare and well seasoned flank steak that she could possibly have finished it.  My son had the gnocchi and meatball which I tried and he finished in short order.  The gnocchi were a touch overdone....but the marinara was absolutely first rate sauce.....we had just left a horrible experience at the Il Lugano Hotel so this place was a welcome stop as we searched for new hotel.  You really should try this great little place if you're in the area.

Really great Italian restaurant with very limited seating. This place is the real deal and will satisfy the most die hard Italian.

Everything is cooked to order, is super fresh, and tastes wonderful.

No joking here as some of the customers are either just getting off the set of a Hollywood gangster movie or they are the real thing - either way, I am not going to inquire.

The kitchen sink was amazing, short ribs(fall of the bone tender), sausage(usually don't like it but there was no fennel and it wasn't over cooked) and the meatballs cooked by the chef were great. Tasty sauce over rigatoni served family style for 32 bucks.. The cast of characters were extras right out of Sopranos. So if you want a more authentic New York/ New Jersey Italian experience Fuggetaboutit.

I have to give this 5 stars!  Great little local spot introduced to me by a friend.  Very friendly service with the best eggplant I've ever experienced.  Atmosphere is very warm and cozy with interesting neighbors at the bar.  Try it and guarantee you'll come back.

I got excited about this place because a friend of mine raved about it. But as everyone knows chacun a son gout. We started off with bland meatballs with salad. This was no Martorano's. It was so-so. We then went to what I was salivating for Veal Pappardelle and my colleague ordered a chicken with cheese and broccoli rabe. My Veal Pappardelle was mediocre for a dish that I seldom find yet love, with the red pepper taste overpowering! My colleague's order was good, and he did not leave a crumb or drop. We finished off with ricotta cheese cake. Bottom line, I will never eat here again, but did like the ambience. I would suggest that everyone try it once, because my taste might be dramatically different than the average Joe....

Kinda like the joisey shore, ya know wat I mean? Fugehdabout it.
this is a meal you cannot refuse. We ate outside. The grilled calamari steak salad was good and then we ordered the "kitchen sink" which u have to see the pics. service was good and attentive. the dean martin singer comes out in the evening and croons. Not bad, but not great.

My chef friend knows the owner so we sometimes go here when we want a break from kitchenetta.  The wine with peaches is an excellent choice for drink.  And we destroy the fried peppers. I think we commonly get like two orders (total gavone's we are). I like their escarole and beans. They will make with water instead of chicken broth which I appreciate!  I like their pastas too. They have the whole jersey goodfellas thing going on with Sinatra on the speakers. Not a prob for this Jersey girl.. It's so steriotypical that it's funny tho.

This is a friendly, comfortable, white table cloth place.

We had clams oreganata- very thin sauce. (B-)
Ziti with broccoli rabe & sausage (A)
Linguine with white clam sauce. (B-)

    2 wines--both ok.

    Total ($70.00)

It was early Saturday night. We were inside. There are plenty of outdoor tables, but only six inside. The service was not attentive, but still friendly. The waiter had to be asked for olive oil and later for cheese. When we walked in, one waiter was more interested in a conversation at the bar than greeting us.

The owner, John, was on the floor, helping out, and added a little something to our evening.  He's the type that likes shave every few days, and wear what used to be called dungarees. He's still very nice.

We would come again and try more dishes. This place has potential.
    ++++

So, we came again. Raising my rating to 5 stars. Crowded at 6:45. All tables taken. Our reservation, however, held, and we were seated by Johnny, himself, inside as we had asked. The waiter, Paul, right there with the menu, a pause for the specials--I wanted the veal chop but the little woman asks the price and it's $38 so she suggests (directs that)  I try the Mai Mai oreganta.-- I was very lucky. It was very subtly flavored, and a very light breading. Superb.

Tony, my long time friend, has the calamari , with a perfect tomato gravy; the wife has Veal Parpardel. What secret herb makes this gravy so perfect? There's no one who will squeal so I leave the question open.

Tony's wife has a clams oreganata--something we used to have in Crisci's in Brooklyn many years ago. Johnny's doesn't live up to our memories.--But, they're almost as good.   No dessert. Espresso for three of us. Paul, our waiter a winner. This restaurant is a winner.

If only Charlie Crisci and Armand had been there it would have been six stars out of five.
