A perfect date night includes dinner at Hofbrauhaus and pinball at Gameworks!
There's a lot of good with a lot of bad at this place. Â We mainly go for pinball and for that, it's very cheap. Â The games randomly give you free credits quite a bit so we can play a long time for 50 cents.
The bad...out of 5 pinball machines, only 2/3 are ever in good working order at any one time. Â 1 is usually bad enough to completely screw up the game. Â Also, the lighting for this area is absolutely atrocious so the glare is really bad for seeing some of the board. Â And it's an arcade. Â It's loud with kids running rampant and you have to load money onto their cards rather than just bringing roles of quarters.
The good....it's hard to find that many pinball machines in one spot. Â And some are really fun. Â The Family Guy one is always entertaining and the Sopranos machine is delightfully sleazy with strippers and beating up people! Â Also, on the weekends they stay open late and kick out kids at a certain hour. Â And there's a bar, so it's not a purely kid arcade.
I haven't eaten here. Â Because why would I eat at an arcade? I can only imagine its not that good.
As a general rule of thumb, arcades kinda suck.
I always hope that these places are better than they ever really are.
The token/points system seems to be used to hide how much money you're actually spending and they always go away much faster than you'd like. Â Nothing fun costs a single unit.
I'm always disappointed that there isn't more of the fan favorites: one foosball table, one air hockey table, and four skeeball lanes (two with excessive damage) hardly cuts it. Â You'll get more laughs at a Chuck-e-Cheese. Â You often have to wait for whatever you want to play to come available.
Service here is often slow and as expected, prizes require a plethora of tickets to purchase the cheapest crap imaginable.

This review won't take long:
Thing one: Most, if not all of their food is frozen.
Thing two: Kids go psycho on candy and soda here and attack their parents for money, sometimes plowing into you. Don't take it personal. They are on a mission, as we all probably once were at that age.
Thing three: Patrons here (at least when I went) were not here to have a few beers, but to get wasted. Lots of guys shouting obnoxious things and no one seemed to care but us, which was really weird.
Stopped here on a Saturday night while we waited for a table as a last resort and will probably never be back. This is just a one time experience, maybe it is different on a weekday afternoon. Hopefully...
I took my family to Gameworks for my daughter's 13th birthday. Food was bad, service was bad, waitress was inept and the manager hid when he heard me question the waitress about the incorrect check. Â We were so disappointed that we left as soon as we paid the check. Â
We went to Dave & Buster's the following week. Â Great service, great food and a great experience. Â Comparing the two, Gameworks will never see me again.
Shame on Gameworks for letting this place fall apart. Â Went for my annual visit with my kids thanks to a $20 unlimited Groupon. Â Many games were not working. This place has become a pile of shooting and racing games packed with too many people/kids. Â It was hard to find an open game. Â It needs a major overhaul. Â The same 2 House of the dead games are still there. Â They have gotten rid of most sports games (including my favorite bowling one) except for an old football, golf and boxing one. Â The pinball machines are the same ones that have been there for years. They are in crummy condition. Â Most of the same shooting games are still there; the fancier simulator games are gone. Â The basketball game only had 2 of 4 units operating. Â
Ticket games are expanding since that requires separate credits from the other games. Â They even took out the water fountains. Â The one bartender refused to give me a glass of water; said I had to go to the water fountain in the mall. Â
Sure you can go late at night and enjoy an only 21 crowd with overpriced food and crummy service. Â Their goal is to pack the place; not necessarily to provide entertainment. Â What good is a video arcade that is mostly full of people.
The service at the bar is realllllllllllllllllllly slow. Â Other than that, the place is pretty nice with ample tv's and plenty of games. Â If you don't have kids, you'll want to go later as swarms of kids are running around hogging up all the cool shiz. Â Gameworks turns into 21 and up after 10. Â I went to a Gameworks in Columbus and had more fun than this one, the games weren't as good as I remembered.
Review Source:I like that Gameworks was open late because I was in town and didn't know what to do. Â The games were over priced like all restaurants & arcade collaborations are. Although I had a lot of fun just goofing off, I have come to really hate claw games. Do you remember the days when claws actually grabbed items? Now a days all claws have weak grips and the damn thing shakes so much that your prize falls out before it reaches the hole. =(

This 21 and up Bar/Restaurant is every inner child's dream! I have been multiple times to this venue for parties and to add some creativity to my dating life. If you are not familiar with Gameworks, think Chucky Cheese meets Sports Bar. When you walk in you will have to purchase tokens, but since we are adults these tokens will come on your Gameworks Credit Card.
There is a restaurant available, but since there were better restaurants to try at Newport be didn't eat there. My boyfriend and I got a $10 gift card and it lasted about 90 mins or about 100 zombies killed, one guitar hero set, some erratic race driving, and a couple pin pall games worth.
There is a full bar with club pricing on drinks, so be careful money will be burned exponentially to the amount of fun you are having.
Over all it was a blast to have the regression time and to also learn, that arcade wise, I am the better driver out of my boyfriend and I. Argument settled.
I've been to Gameworks to play games on a date before but never noticed they have a meeting room in the back. Â I love all the hard wood and big windows. Â There was about 50 people there engaging in conversations and it had a warm fuzzy feel to it. Â They offered specials to our group for appetizers and drinks. Â
We had a great time and will reserve it again in the near future for events.
My daughter and I stopped in at Jax's (in Gameworks) for a late lunch after seeing a show at the AMC theaters at Newport on the Levee. We waited patiently at the hostess stand near the door for several minutes, and when no one showed any interest in helping us, we simply seated ourselves. I should say that the restaurant was not at all busy, with maybe three other tables occupied. Our waiter came quickly when he saw that we had seated ourselves. Oddly, he had but one menu, and asked if we would like another (my daughter is fourteen). He retrieved one from the hostess stand, and took our drink orders. These came quickly, by which time we had both decided on the same thing: The BBQ bacon cheddar cheeseburger.
Wait time was reasonable. But when it arrived, the plate looked a little tired overall. It came with a single piece of lettuce, and two tomato slices that appeared to be past their prime. The slice of cheddar cheese was nicely melted, and tasty.
The meat was overworked, as it was very compacted, as well as under seasoned. They both arrived having been cooked to a medium temperature, exactly as we had ordered them. The bacon was undercooked, nowhere near crisp. My burger was almost devoid of BBQ sauce, my daughter's was much better. There was a pile of undercooked onion straws on top of the bacon. They were a little on the greasy side, limp, and not too attractive. Â The most interesting thing of all was the bun. Both sides were nicely toasted on the grill, but it was chewy, like a pretzel bun. It wasn't identified as anything unique, but it was. I really liked the taste and texture of the bun.
Accompanying the burger was a side of fries. Under seasoned like the burger, but very well cooked. They were crispy and light.
Overall, not a very positive experience. Other little things added to the "Don't like" vote. The table was sticky, had to ask to have it wiped down again. My wooden chair was modern, but not too comfortable. It "wobbled". A wobbly chair is a sure sign of neglect concerning the little things. Also, tired plastic cups to drink from, and water spots all over the silverware. A very disappointing encounter for us both.
At $8.99 a burger, I felt this meal was very overpriced. $25.00 Â for two burgers (before tip) and this kind of experience? I don't intend on going back. I understand the venue, but for not much more money, there are some excellent dining venues on the Levee. Next time, I'll go to one of those.
awesome arcade. Â great selection from skeeball to driving simulators, they've got it all. Â Great that you can drink and smoke in the place, too. Â good food and drink specials throughout the week inlcluding a decent college night. The food may not be the greatest, but it does the trick for fueling a night of fun at gameworks!
Review Source:Completely different from arcades of the 80's, Gameworks is a monolith of gaming that can provide fun for game lovers of all ages. Located inside Newport on the Levee, Gameworks runs on electronic cards, rather than quarters, with each machine taking a certain number of credits, rather than a monetary amount. This can work to your advantage as Gameworks will often run specials, such as paying $15-$20 for an hour of unlimited play. This is great if it's a slower time at Gameworks, such as during the day on a weekday. Nights and weekends can be an exercise in frustration because there are only so many games and you could be waiting in a line for every game you want to play through the evening.
Still, there are plenty of games to play, from lightgun games to redemption machines. If you're hungry there is a sitdown restaurant as well as bar food from the bar located right in the center of Gameworks. Because of the alcoholic beverages it closes it's doors to kids under 18 after 10pm. Either way, Gameworks is a decent place to stop before catching a movie or after dinner at Newport on the Levee.

They have all my favorite arcade games. I really like the shooting games such as Area 51 and Time Crisis. They have several versions of each! I also love that they have two editions of Dance Dance Revolutions. I have to admit I'm really bad at that game, but I still love to play it!
Most of the time I have come to Gameworks, it has been to play a few games of pool. They have several really nice pool tables. You can use your Gameworks card with points on it to get the balls to come out. However, sometimes I have gone to play pool and they have been closed because of a private party in the party rooms they have in the back. It's hit or miss!
Gameworks is a mammoth arcade/billiards/bar/party complex at Newport on the Levee. Always noisy and gregarious, this spot is popular for birthday parties, guys' night out, or any other event that involves a big group of people. They offer just about any game you can imagine: pinball, pool, ski-ball, digital bowling, shoot-em-ups, electronic darts and many other classic arcade and bar past-times.
Just like Chuck E. Cheese, your endeavors are rewarded with tickets that can be exchanged for plastic novelties at the awards bar. Games are played with a rechargeable card that must be activated by the cashier after you've added money. Be prepared for a long line at the cashier, because most people don't feel the $2 service fee charged at the automated teller is worth it. Usually, each game costs a varying number of credits based on its popularity, but according to Gameworks' website they sometimes run specials when you can buy passes of unlimited play for a certain number of hours.
Bar service is slow, if not non-existent on a busy weekend. We waited for ten minutes to be (unsuccessfully) acknowledged by a server at a table close to the bar. A young female server approached the table next to us several times to check on them, never giving us single. We left shortly after that annoyed by the whole experience.
If you're going to Gameworks, there's strength in numbers. Couples just seemed to be ignored. Also, go during the week when the place is far less crowded.
