This was my first time here.  I've known about this place for however many years they've been open but never really thought about going.  That is until Jessica H. offered to be my guide during lunch yesterday.  This was particularly nice as I got to do both Japanese style and vegetarian ( well I got some salmon ) all in one trip.

This restaurant has a very pleasant vibe to it.  Nicely done interior befitting an upscale Japanese establishment.

Service was very  attentive.  Most people were outside on the nice patio so we almost had the place for ourselves.

I'm definitely impressed with this place.  Started off with some miso soup and a salad.  Moved on to some vegetarian Phad Thai which, while not the best I've ever had, was still very good none the less.  ( I kicked it up a bit with some chili oil ).

We had three different types of sushi, my fave being the Harvest Roll.  Wonderful flavors all coming together.  A little ginger on top, a splash of soy sauce and I'm a happy eater.

Plenty of leftovers for take away so I had plenty to nibble on for the rest of the evening.

Good food, good company, good conversation =  A good afternoon.  I will be back.

The atmosphere of this place was amazing. After seeing it in the (614), I had to take my sushi-loving roommate here.

I, myself, am not a fan of sushi. The Vietnamese Beef Noodles I got was large in portion, but overly sweet and I was unable to really eat much of it. My roommate got the California Roll, and said while there was too much avacado, it was still decent.

I think the best thing about this place was the haiku poems people wrote and placed around the restaurant. The servers were also really quick and polite, and ready to answer questions.

Haiku is one of my favorite spots to eat not only in the Short North, but the whole of Columbus. The sushi is amazing and the rolls (especially the Employee Roll) are awesome! What people don't always realize is that Haiku has an amazing dinner and lunch menu with more than just sushi. On any given night myself and another person can get an entrée and leave the place for under $30 (tip included). The meals are amazing as well and the portion size is huge!

In short, try more than the sushi. You'll save some money and still get an amazing meal!

    (Valet is great too!)

We stopped in a for a late Saturday afternoon lunch. The place was pretty empty, I think there was 3 other tables so we could sit anywhere.  It was my first visit and I was very pleased with the whole experience.

Ordered a cold bottle of Chardonnay with our lunch. The bottle of wine was a suggestion by our waitress, it turns out she was right on with everything.  Normally, when I go to a restaurant I haven't been before and have no idea what  would be good to order, I will ask for suggestions.  My wife had been there a few times so she knew exactly what she wanted, I needed some help and our waitress was real good about making suggestions. She very helpful in explaining everything in detail, I was impressed.  We decided on Japanese noodle dishes with broth and of course appetizers along with our wine.

I had the sashimi appetizer and the I believe it was the Vietnamese beef noodle's as my entree, I could be wrong. I do apologize for this.  I wanted something like Viet Pho but the dish I got was not the same.  The appetizer was truly excellent.  My entree was okay, I was not familiar with that taste and expected something else, but I did end up eating most of it, it was just different.

My partner in crime had a sushi appetizer and the more flatter square noodles for her entree with broth. Of course both entrees is accompanied with seaweed, green onion in their special delicious broths.  I actually really liked her dish, the noodles were incredible, cooked just right and nothing like I had before.

I will be back for some more of that sashimi, noodles and wine!

Haiku is definitely one of my favorite spots in Columbus. The sushi is a little above average, but the atmosphere is second to none. Also the price point is very reasonable - especially given the entire offering at Haiku.

I've been here about four or five times and each time I leave with a very satisfied feeling. My hands down favorite thing about Haiku is their patio (obviously only in the summer). Talk about the perfect date locale! The noise of nearby high street is completely lost in the outdoors patio decorated with elegant white lights. The inside feels like a whole different experience, but still a very good time as well. When I went a few weeks ago they had a live string band to serenade you during dinner.

As for the sushi. Here's what I'll say: if your a sushi snob - meaning you know the taste of good sushi and refuse to eat anything less - you will not like this place. The sushi is good, just not great. Unlike places like sushi rock, you aren't paying high end price for not so high end sushi. So you'll be fine. just enjoy the night.

This place is nice, but I think living so close has worn away some of its shine. I am no sushi connoisseur but I have always enjoyed the rolls here. Other reviewers comment that it is mediocre, which is probably true but hard for me to gauge since I'm pretty sure I've only ever had mediocre sushi.

I like coming here on off days. The interior is a good set up for a relaxing date night or for catching up with friends. It is not good when this place is packed, which happens on weekend nights. Not really a great place for waiting. The patio is lovely when the weather in nice, but it's a little strange they basically lose half of their size when it's closed. Service is pretty standard - I've had good experiences and I've had bad. Nothing really to write about.

Their specialty rolls are pretty good, I especially enjoyed the High Street roll that had fresh jalapeño added in for crunch and a little spice (it isn't available anymore, boo).
They offer some non-sushi dishes as well, and the General Tso chicken is really really really good here. I always get the Miso soup, too. Without alcohol, I usually spend about $35-$40 for dinner for two.

While I enjoy the quieter evenings here, I did attend a girls-only birthday dinner once on a Friday night. They were nice enough to give us the special group table at the back of the restaurant and we had a blast. Once things started slowing down and we were one of the few groups left, we got lots of nasty stares from tables for being so loud. A group of 8 girls, lots of wine and stories later - what did they expect? Our server was great that night though and didn't make us feel unwelcome at all.

I'm pretty sure their valet is free, which is really great for the Short North (or anywhere, really)!

Perfect place for a sushi date night!

There are no reservations, but they do have priority seating (1st dibs over walk-ins). Also, the valet parking is a really nice convenience. As an added bonus, there was a live band playing on and off all night!

Our server, Paul, was quick, attentive and very friendly. Our food was out very fast and we were always good on drinks. We ordered:
    North Shore (night special)
    Dragon Ball (night special)
Spicy Crab roll of sorts (can't remember the exact name)

The North Shore was the best! It was very fresh, and I could have eaten three rolls of that alone.

Surprisingly, for a Sat night, it was pretty inexpensive! For a couple drinks (wine & beer) and 3 rolls, it was under $50 (before tip and valet). Not too shabby!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! GO GET YO SUSHI ON!!!!

When I was new to eating sushi, I thought Haiku was the best place ever. That was before I knew what really good sushi was. Haiku for me is a seasonal place. I love going here in the summer when you can park as far away as you have to and walk in the beautiful Short North and sit outside on their awesome patio. The sushi here is just ok and I feel like a lot of it is overpriced and not as fresh as other places. I do love their shrimp pad thai and I love how you can leave your own haiku around the restaurant. The drinks are pretty good also. I go here when someone else wants to...but usually when I'm craving sushi, I go to one of my regular favorites.

Really nice people with pretty good food.  Their sashimi is good and their non-sushi dishes are also worth trying.  The best thing about Hiaku is the people that work there, I've always had good service which in my opinion is a big part of the whole experience.  I went last weekend with a bounch of frat brothers who later went to the jackets game.  The place is a little cramped I will say.  The prices arn't too bad either.

We had a really fun night at Haiku. Good vegetarian sushi (many with a generous dollop of cream cheese!), great drinks, and really fun service. We came on a cold winter day and the real treat was finding a super flavorful vegan udon soup that is so hard to come by. Like!

This place has so much potential, but there are so many things wrong with it.

I've gone to this place twice and each time was different. The first time I went here it was relaxing, quiet and the staff was very friendly. The second time was exceptionally loud, crowded and the staff was testy. Both times were during lunch.

I was not impressed with the menu. What kind of Asian restaurant does not have fried rice? I didn't order it, but the boyfriend did and was rather surprised that they didn't have it. He asked if they had brown rice, but was told that it would be extra for it. From that point on, his impression of the place was "mediocre." I'd have to agree with him. The meals are a bit overpriced for the size you get as well.

I will state that their spring rolls are pretty tasty, but that's about it. Even the guys at the sushi bar looked miserable making the sushi!

Haiku is one of my favorite restaurants in the Short North area. The
place is always alive and vibrant, with the right amount of hustle and
bustle to keep things interesting. The restaurant describes itself as
Asian Pacific, with poetic food and art, and I think that describes it
very well. I've always had a great dining experience at Haiku.

The inside of the building is split into two seating areas, with a drink
bar on one side and a sushi bar on the other side. The wooden tables are
nicely arranged and there are a few larger tables to sit bigger groups.
The restaurant is decorated with various pieces of art hanging on the
walls, most of which are for sale. Diners can also write their own haiku
poetry and hang it within the dining area, and read and share poetry
    others have written.

There is a large outdoor eating area for the warmer months, with a
waterfall and stream running through the middle, creating a soothing,
romantic atmosphere. I have not eaten at the outdoor patio area yet, but
it looks like a great place to enjoy your meal.

The menu has a lengthy selection of entrees featuring a variety of large
and small plate selections, focusing on seafood, chicken, or beef. Check
their website for details, because there are just too many choices to
mention here. And of course they also are well known for their complete
selection of sushi, from appetizers to specialty rolls. I am not an
expert on sushi, but I think the shrimp and tuna selections are
    fantastic.

The service staff is attentive and knowledgeable and will gladly answer
all your questions about items on the menu. Ask for the lightly fried
Spicy Calamari appetizer, which is not on the menu, but has been a
    favorite for years.

Overall, Haiku creates a very enjoyable and relaxing dining experience.
It is the perfect place for a first date or the start of a romantic night
    with your significant other.

So if you are visiting the Short North area, come give Haiku a try, you're sure
to find something that you'll love here.

Sometimes, it is best to be brief!

    Sushi - just meh
Service - Slow to very slow
Vibe - Fun, cozy, modern, hang out, groups
    Patio - Awesome

I have been here on many occasions and have had a lot of fun.  However, the sushi and food are truly not that great.  The vibe is fine and the patio is huge, which means Haiku gets a lot of credit for being able to dine and enjoy the outdoors and there is something to be said about that in the Short North area!

I am a sushi fanatic... i mean, real sushi..

So this place has a great atmosphere and a good walking location. I love the idea of japanese style seating for large groups, very cute.

However, the sushi itself was not very authentic and where they delve into fusion, they rather missed the boat with the squash and the tempura. So much tempura makes me wonder if they are catering to people who don't actually like sushi, but want the sushi experience. That isn't a bad thing, actually, I just wasn't as impressed with the level of the sushi as I expected to be.

I would come back though for the ambiance and the location as it fit my plans. The night we were there a huge storm came up and everyone had to run inside. It was cute because I met a family that was out for the Mom's birthday and she kept embarrassing her son by talking to me about him...  don't worry Notre Dame grad who returned to Columbus because you missed your friends... I think you are cute.

Anyway, It's a cool place to chill out.

We went a few days ago for lunch. We shared general tso, plenty for both of us) and a dragonball roll (shrimp tempora, eel, skate, with terriaki sauce, and ....oh I cant remember...chipolte sauce?

Really good sushi!! About 5 pieces for $9.50. As far as quality goes it's very very good. Price is a bit higher then I like and the sushi itself is a bit larger which makes for a harder time eating it, but the flavor was on point. No knife either ...had to cut it using a chop stick and a fork. The chicken was amazing; juicy, breaded perfectly, and the saice was so yummy we fought over the last piece! I've had pretty bad general tso in columbus in the past and I was nervous ordering it here beign that the local where I'm from make it differently and I'm partial to how they make it back home. Regardless, american chinese is still american chinese and this place made gerneral tso right!

I have had better sushi elsewhere but I'm a big fan of this place, their food, and their atmosphere. I'll be back again probably sooner then I think.

I went here this past weekend and was very impressed. I could easily call this the best Asian restaurant I've ever been to. The staff was great, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable when we had questions.

The food was overall very good, though I did find a couple small bones in my sea bass (The only negative thing I can say - It still tasted delicious) Our appetizer lettuce wraps were as good or better as any I've ever had. The sake recommended by our waiter was excellent.

Atmosphere was great too, a nice place to go where you can actually spend the time talking without screaming. We were never rushed by the staff, never had to wait for a refill on water or drinks, and food came in a timely manner.

Definitely a place I'll be going back to!

haiku butchers japanese food. they should name themselves something else so customers don't get tricked into thinking they're entering an authentic japanese restaurant. I would be more forgiving if they marketed themselves as "fusion." the rolls have way too much rice and it makes you feel heavy and lethargic after the meal - a sensation that should never follow a sushi dinner!

definitely check out Kihachi or Tensuke Express if you want real Japanese food.

pro: nicely decorated outdoor patio area.

I have dined at Haiku frequently over the years, and have, until recently, enjoyed the experience. A recent visit on a summer Saturday night, however, was a huge disappointment. With foodie friends visiting from out of town who were desirous of some good sushi, we chose the easy walk and past track record provided by Haiku.

The sushi was mediocre at best. We chose Haiku Beef as an entree, and it tasted like shoe leather coated in molasses. Our  Pad Thai was over-sauced. To top it off, our service was atrocious. Like so many longtime dining establishments in the Short North, I feel like Haiku is resting on its laurels. Get it together, folks. I am not anxious to return.

    The food is alright.
    Nothing special in my eyes.
    Ordinary plus.

    Vegetarian
    Options plentiful abound
    Solid but not great.

    Ambience is nice
    Outdoor patio nighttime
    Efficient service.

    Harvest roll not bad.
    Coconut curry better
    Lettuce cups salty.

    Tofu entree good
    Different than expected
    Much better to share.

    Reasonable price
    Servings large, people are full
    Taste on the bland side.

    Would not return soon
    Other places to go near
    Need more spice in food.

Loved the outdoor seating section albeit a bit loud sitting next to the fountain. The sushi rolls were good but not great. Probably as good as you'll get in central Ohio though.

Service was average at best. It just seemed difficult to sync up when we wanted the server and when he made time for us.

    Still loving on Haiku.
The rolls, especially for a vegetarian, are creative and have a wonderful  blend of flavors.
The true fish sushi rolls are beautifully presented.

We've brought guests here from the Pacific coast who mentioned the sushi rivaled what they had from home.

My go to's as a veg:
    Yama Roll
    Harvest Roll

Pad/pah Thai - be sure to request no fish sauce
    tofu lettuce wraps
curry coconut noodle (served with hard boiled egg halves)
bonzai udon - udon noodles & vegetables in a japanese broth, request vegetarian broth

I love the sushi chefs - very sweet guys once you get them talking :)

I had not been here in awhile and decided to go for a celebration dinner. Service was horrible! We were seated about 10 min before we even saw our server. When he finally arrived we ordered cocktails and then he said they were out of rum even though I ordered the Lychee Martini (vodka based). He went to check--gone 5 more minutes.

We opted for a sushi only dinner and ordered this when he finally returned. We got our drinks just before our sushi arrived. He checked in on us again when we were nearly complete with our meal. Ordered an assortment of sushi and while it was tasty, not the best I have had.

Location and patio is probably the only thing that keeps this place in business. For the price, service should be spot-on, especially since their food isn't. I'll go elsewhere next time!

Haters gon' hate. I think Haiku has some worthy attributes, though I'll agree the sushi is not the best in Columbus (but not bad, either).

I hosted an anniversary party for my parents here some years ago. Probably too long ago usefully recount what it would be like today, but the people were great to work with to plan a party. We put on an event for about 50 people and made even more memories.

For the sushi: three stars. A-Ok.
    For the PATIO: five stars!

Nothing beats gorgeous weather in the Short North on Haiku's patio. It's as good as it gets. Doesn't matter what you're eating. There's plantings, water features, a shady roof that allows some sun to filter in without scorching. Actually, the patio gets six stars.

Service is always friendly. But, had a bit of a weird moment with our server this last visit. We ordered our rolls in stages (to avoid over-ordering). The second order had some tempura'd elements (spider). But, it was way overly fried and the near-burnt flavor overtook the entire roll. Our server, who was very attentive all night, asked how our last few rolls were. We told him about the burnt tempura, but by this time the rolls were completely consumed. He said "well, would you like them off your check?" It was a strange thing to offer, I thought. Not wanting to seem like a jerk, my dining partner said "not necessarily... I mean, it wasn't inedible." So they didn't come off the check. I guess it was just a weird thing to offer and then not do. It put the customer in an awkward spot.

I think the first time I ever had sushi was here, with Caroline C., the summer after senior year of high school (2001). Sometimes we'd come after yoga class at the Buggyworks. Ah, nostalgia.

Love, love, love this place :)

I tried putting off trying this place until the patio was open again for the season, but I broke down and have gone several times this past winter. Every time I have been impressed with the quality of fish here (which, this being central Ohio - I've been less than impressed elsewhere). Additionally, the warm sake served in the bottle is a weakness of mine and the waiters here will gladly re-warm it throughout your meal (and often topping it off for me- awesome).
The Harvest roll is amazing. Typically I don't stray from my spicy tuna and tako, but this looked too good to pass up. Spicy sauce makes it awesome.
I'm looking forward to the patio this summer.

The valet parking is helpful, given the sorry state of other available parking in the short north. Paying for valet is worth avoiding the parking tickets I seem to attract otherwise in this neighborhood.  Only downfall of Haiku - I'm hardly flush with cash, so I have to save Haiku for those nights where I don't care about the hit to my wallet.

I'm a true believer that if Haiku did not have an awesome atmosphere, possibly the best outdoor seating in town and was not in a trendy location that it would not be in operation.

As always, it's never my idea to go here for food, but I will go here for drinks and an occasional small plate.  You truly can't beat ambience in here, it's just a very cool place to be and be seen.  Actually, that's part of problem.  I feel like people hanging out at Haiku really really want attention--I don't really know how else to put it.  I'll do some GTL'ing and get dressed up for a night out on the town, but I don't overdo it, at least not usually in Columbus and not at Haiku.  So, if you go, wear something trendy or just look like me and you won't have a problem cause you look good in anything.

On to the food.  I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but my favorite thing here is the General Tso's Chicken.  There I said it.  Yes, very unoriginal and very American.  It's awesome, nice and spicy and always crisp chunks of white chicken.  Next to Sun Tong Luck up on Bethel it's the best in town.  I don't like their spring rolls--as they are never crisp enough.  Their Pad Thai--the two times I've had it, came with cilantro even though I asked to have it without cilantro, so of course I have a negative opinion about that.  I am a HUGE fan of dim sum, which sucks because I don't live in a large city with a Chinatown, and Haiku has steamed buns (haha sounds dirty) for an appetizer that are pretty on par with the actual thing.

Now, when I was here a few weeks ago I timed myself to have a very late arrival so I wouldn't have to eat.  I actually had just dined with some other friends at my favorite sushi place, Moshi in Bexley, and headed over this way to meet some buds that were having a later dinner.  It was warm out so I enjoyed a few gin and tonics which are one of my fave warm weather beverages.

Here's my problem:  I've never had good sushi here.  The sashimi is never cold and served at room temperature.  The rolls are very very subpar--I just don't think the quality of the fish good.  And, I feel like there is way way too much rice on their rolls.  I prefer my rolls to be cut in to bite size chunks, not four bite chunks--there's just simply too much rice for me to handle with one bite.  Though I didn't have sushi this time, here is a picture from last fall with my baby gurl and I and a plate of rolls.  We couldn't even finish half of the plate because it was so bad.  Not to mention that the wait for this sushi exceeded an hour (an hour after apps were cleared from the table).  Yes, long waits are fine for food that is fine, but not food that is fair.

In closing, an alright place for a drink, but the food is subpar.  I'm only giving three stars because of the good General Tso's and the awesome atmosphere.  Another plus is the valet parking--gotta love it especially in an area with crappy parking like the short north.

Boyfriend and I came here tonight for Restaurant Week (and because I secretly want to try every single sushi restaurant in this city). The area was crowded, but we easily found street parking less than a block away. That was nice. We also had a super friendly, attentive server. He gets a full five stars in my book. The food sort of paled in comparison.

First course: sushi. I got spicy tuna and he got a California roll. Both were pretty standard as far as sushi goes - not memorable, which means they weren't amazing or totally disgusting. I'd eat it again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Second course: Veggie egg roll salad and chicken lettuce wraps. The veggie egg roll salad was just what it sounds like: egg rolls on top of mixed greens. I wasn't exactly sure how to eat it. The egg rolls themselves were pretty good, but the combination was a little odd and hard to do with chopsticks. My boyfriend thought his lettuce wraps were good, but we both agreed we'd had better elsewhere.

Main course: I got shrimp pad thai, he got chicken with mixed veggies. The chicken with mixed veggies looked like a standard entree from basically any Chinese restaurant and definitely wasn't memorable. My pad thai was okay, not great.

I'd love to come back in nice weather and sit outside on the patio, which looked nice. However, I wasn't really that thrilled by the food - definitely not enough to spend $70+  again on just an OK dinner.

From a previous experience their siamese coconut curry noodle is delicious.

My most recent experience was dining here for a girls' night, so we split a bottle of wine, calamari, some rolls and pad thai.

The server suggested the spicy calamari preparation, and it didn't disappoint. Delicious....with a good amount of heat.

The biggest change from my previous experience? Excellent service. The past few times I have visited Haiku the service was unbelievably slow and inattentive. MUCH better this time. I even left a little note on my receipt thanking our server.

I am surprised that the reviews are as tepid as they are because I absolutely loved this place.  When you go inside, you meander into an alcove of tables where you feel you've truly left the outside world behind while you sip your beer and munch on tasty sushi.

My wife and I ordered the "sushi party tray (forty pieces) chef's choice of assorted nigiri & rolls $48.00," and were given more than enough interesting and delicious sushi at--what we thought of as--a fair price.  In addition, the opportunity to stretch our poetic muscles by writing haiku at the table while we waited for our order was a lot of fun.

    We will definitely come back!

I've eaten here a dozen times. I really like the food but it's a bit expensive for my budget. The patio is a great space, weather permitting.

The interior is poorly laid out and confusing. The space seems to be in a constant state of construction since 2009.

Food: Good. Prices: High. Ambiance: Patio-Good, Inside-Not So Much.

This is one of those places where you go to enjoy the people, music and atmosphere. There was live jazz music the night we were there. Not the best sushi or entrees but doable on a night out on N High St.

    What we ordered:
Lo Mein with steamed tofu, a bit too salty but it had a good amount of mixed veggies.

Sushi, out of everything we ordered, the Buckeye roll with pecans was very good. Everything else on our sushi platter is not worth noting. The Nigiri was cut SUPER thin. You could literally see the rice under the fish.

Our waiter was great. Very attentive and nice.

When I went to Haiku, it wasn't really for the sushi. It was for the incredibly appealing decor (inside and outside!). The patio is just too pretty, and the inside is equally as relaxing and clean. I went with two girlfriends for a lunch. I got pad thai, while one friend got vegetarian sushi rolls and the other got lettuce wraps.

Our server was, honestly, amazing. He was so nice and so fun to talk to. He was incredibly friendly and helpful with any questions we had on the menu. He knew everything. And even when my pad thai was covered in sprouts (I asked for no bean sprouts), he immediately noticed when it had come out and insisted he take it back and they make me a new dish. But I really didn't want a huge plate of food to go to waste, so I insisted that it really was ok! The pad thai portion was so huge that I had to take it home. It was good (no real complaints on my dish) and I really enjoyed the overall experience. My one friend liked her sushi rolls while my other friend wasn't incredibly happy with the taste of the lettuce wraps. I also tried a little bite and it was just a different type of flavor.. I can't quite pinpoint it. But not as flavorful as the ones you would get at pf changs, for example.

It's nice that they have a private lot - it says "valet" but really you just park there and it's free. I do remember being slightly uncomfortable with the seats inside - I don't think they have backs to them and you're more sitting on a glorified bench, but it was all going with the theme of the room. There's a huge floor table at the front of the room we were sitting in, which I assume is one of those tables you sit at for a birthday dinner or with a large group of people. Kind of like the outdoor table with the white flowy curtains around it - it's a beautiful looking table where you would want to sit when having a nice dinner with a group of 8+ people.

So overall, can't speak much about the sushi (yet!), but the service and decor alone were enough to encourage me back for another visit,

Great for drinks, atmosphere, people watching and good times. But mediocre for sushi.

Came again for yes, another girl's night. And along with our cocktails we ordered the sushi sampler and a few other dishes. All were great, but not entirely memorable since well.... I can't remember them, and the sampler was a big ol' meh after craving it all week.

My previous review still stands true, but if you're craving the best sushi in the city, I'd suggest selecting elsewhere.

    You can write Haiku
Then you hang it on the walls
    It does not stay long

    Haha, get it?

Just went here for lunch this afternoon. They have a nice deal where you get miso soup and small salad included with your meal.
I ordered the pah thai and shared a spider roll with my lunch date. Both were very good and the pah thai had a huge portion (for only $8)! I'll most likely be having some for dinner tonight. The roll was savory and crisp.

I've also gone here for dinner before. It can be a bit more pricy than the lunch menu. However, the food is delicious and well explained for any first time sushi eaters. Seasonal sushi selections are also available. I would recommend the sweet potato with cream cheese roll. Yum!

Overall I prefer Akai hana for sushi, but Haiku is much closer to my job and still darn tasty.

This place may have been good a decade ago, when it opened, but now-- not so much.

The last six times I've been to Haiku -- and don't ask why I gave it so many chances -- were just terrible. The people who work here are completely ridiculous, under-trained and sloppy. The sushi is mediocre at its very, very best and the noodle dishes are a sad, sad attempt at Japanese cuisine. Not to mention, they have a huge parking lot with a valet who parks your car two feet in front of you. Pretty dumb.

If you want Japanese food, run far away from here. If you want 90s Asian fusion food that tastes like it was prepared in the 90s, this is your place!

    From the tempura,
    To the sushi offering,
    Haiku is horrid.

An entirely mediocre sushi establishment with an excellent patio during the summer.

Dark, dank, and full of wannabe sushi fans, there is little to love at Haiku.  Fishy in smell and overly expensive for the quality of the fish, this restaurant has been getting by on location and name for far too long.  While it may indeed be one of Columbus's longer established places to consume raw fish, it is far from the best.

The wait staff attempts a "too cool for you" act which is far more tolerable at a restaurant like Nobu SoHo or Koi LA.....certainly not in a midwestern town generally geared to college kids.

The jazz in back is occassionally entertaining, but the limited room is awkward as noted by others.  I don't drink, but my buddy says the prices are too high for cocktails and the sake list too limited.

I've not tried the non-sushi items, but the prices appear a tad more proportionate.  Lunch is affordable, so long as you're willing to accept a set menu.  Certainly not the worst sushi in town, but possibly the most overrated.  Their green tea icecream is top notch, thus the 2 star rating.
