This LaRosa's pretty much feels like many other stores in the Newport area, which is a shame because a lot of them that I've seen have real charm and class. This one? Meh, feels like a chain.
That's not to say it's not a good thing, there's just nothing really overwhelming about it. It's very bland, simple, comforting. No Greater Cincinnati charm, nothing to make it really stand out.
Tucked away behind the Target/Super Kroger, there's plenty of parking at this establishment. The last time I was there, we I came right at lunch and even though it was packed, found a spot easily.) We were seated in a booth and our waiter checked on us right away.
I ordered the steak hoagie with the side salad combo and a diet coke. Our drinks were there almost immediately and the salad came quickly following after. The service here was top notch for sure. The salad was crisp and fresh although both salads only came with one olive a piece, which was a little strange and disappointing as I love their olives in my salad, but ah well.
The food is decent. I'm still searching for that LaRosa's item that blows me away (not being from here originally, the pizza sauce doesn't do it for me like it does for others.) The steak sandwich was decent and it came with nice homemade chips.
And there was free open WiFi, which was a win.
Overall, I'd come back if I was in the area and craving LaRosa's, but only then. There are other spots, including other LaRosa's, I'd go to first.
Just a total waste of ten bucks for lunch--wasn't really sure what I was in the mood for, passed by this location and thought, "why not?" Â I migth eat Larosa's once in....3 years or so. Â Seated quickly, the waitress came just after the hostess left and said, "do you need a minute?" Â I guess that the people who eat Larosa's mediocre food day after day eat the same exact thing, too, so there is no thought required. Â She came back and I asked what the soups were--4 different soups, I chose the onion and because I needed something else...not a salad because I remember their salads being subpar, I ordered the 5 boneless wings with medium sauce. Â $3.89 didn't seem too much, but when she brought them, they were basically really overdone pieces of breaded chicken that were sort of tossed on "top' of sauce, maybe a little "schmeer" here or there. Â Not true wings, certainly, and even more silly was that when I noticed they were served without celery and asked for some, the server told me they "didn't give celery anymore with wings." Â
She brought my bill and I noted that the onion soup was $4.00 (?), I quickly paid (if, rather begrudgingly) and left. Â I won't be back, to this location or any other Larosa's, honestly, because they're really all just about the same which brings me to wonder about Cincinnatian's and their culinary favorites like Skyline and Larosas. Â Just leaves me scratching my head!!
