The Battle of the Chilis: Â This particular Gold Star sits directly across the street from a Skyline. Â I've been a Skyline fan all my life, but recently, I've found myself visiting this Gold Star.
One day, I was driving down Carothers and noticed Gold Star had a $1 cheese coney sale. Next week, free extra cheese on your order. After that, a $3 sale on 3-ways.
My recent visits to the neighboring Skyline had been expensive, so I started going to Gold Star. I would order the same food at both stores, but Skyline would cost me around $10 for something I could get at Gold Star for $6.50.
Kudos to Gold Star's marketing people. Those sales really do attract customers over from Skyline!
Some more observances about Newport Gold Star:
- The workers here always seem happy. This is a pleasant surprise in fast food.
- The drive-thru and parking lot are awkwardly positioned. The front door to the restaurant is around a blind corner from the drive-thru window. Be vigilant, I've seen people walk blindly out into the drive-thru lane and almost get hit.
- There's a 25 cent charge for crackers. Crackers should be included in every meal, plus you don't get a whole lot per package.
Gold Star is a great place to grab some good, affordable coneys, although if you're in the mood for a 3-way, I still prefer Skyline.
